I've seen quite a few people comment on how Sensoji bullied Shouta in high school, but I've never seen anybody talk about how he didn't treat Hizashi or Oboro any better.
Tumblr media
Like...Shouta literally doesn't care??? Shouta just...ignores everything he does??? Which is easy enough when you really only have to put up with someone when your classes have joint training. Hizashi on the other hand? Hizashi's the one who's stuck with him.
Sensoji clearly doesn't think much of Hizashi. We've seen him steal his ideas-and take credit for them, mock him and his friends, and quite literally shove him aside so he can get all the glory in a fight (the interesting thing about that is that 1. Hizashi is smart 2. Even after interning somewhere else, Hizashi is still the only one who knows Oboro and Shouta as well as they know each other. He would have been able to actually analyze and predict their strategies, but by throwing Hizashi away, Sensoji also threw away his best chance at actually beating them)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
through it all, Hizashi seems to mostly shrug it off and take Shouta's advice to ignore him. Except when it's Shouta himself that Sensoji takes a jab at. Then Hizashi immediately jumps to his defense.
Tumblr media
But still, one has to wonder how much of this Hizashi had to endure during his internship? How often has all this happened? How many times has Sensoji taken credit for Hizashi's ideas? How many times has he shoved him aside and said you're not needed here? How many comments has he made about Shouta or Oboro, just to see how far he could push, then to switch to bullying Hizashi, just to see how much further he could go? And many times did Hizashi just...let him?
Then jump forward to when they're adults. Sensoji's stayed with the Buster Union, while Hizashi's parted ways with them, only to return for one big team up. And...there doesn't seem to be any hard feelings between them. That's not surprising on Hizashi's part, it's been repeatedly shown that he's not the type to hold a grudge (there's a really good analysis on that I reblogged a while back that I can link if anybody wants to see it). And Sensoji seems...annoyed by Hizashi's...exuberance, let's call it, but he seems to actually listen to and respect Hizashi's input. There's no more of the antagonism we saw from him as a teenager.
Tumblr media
So there's clearly been a shift in their dynamic. And you kind of have to wonder, was it just Sensoji growing up and learning how to work with others better? Or was there something specific Oboro's death that triggered a change?

I really wonder how Sensoji would react seeing Aizawa in the War. Like, can you imagine seeing the guy you bullied being on the front lines? Being essential to keeping the worst villain of all time held back with a quirk you called ‘useless’?? Taking a bullet to the leg and then CHOPPING OFF THAT LEG? Disappearing into a portal to come back some time later and restore a student’s arms???
I’d be glad I’d made amends with that guy.

Oboro height compared to HS Aizawa, Hizashi, Nemuri height visual pls?
So I’d love to answer this properly but in Vigilantes we never get canon heights for Aizawa, Hizashi, and Nemuri for when they are in high school.
But… that doesn’t mean I can’t give you my next best guess, so here is my approximation of their heights based upon how they compare to each other:
Tumblr media
We’re gonna start on the leftmost side and move right. So, the one other canon height we do get in vigilantes is for His Purple Highness. Who turns out is 2 cm SHORTER than Oboro!
Next, we have Aizawa and Hizashi (HS). These are my best approximations of their height. Aizawa was easy because in panels where he’s next to Oboto he’s always up to the middle of Oboro’s face or to lower part of his chin. So, I estimate he’s around 167cm or ~5’6”.
Now, Hizashi. He is infuriating because in Vigilantes he ranges from being just shorter than Oboro, to being the same height as Aizawa, to being SHORTER than Aizawa. In this case I just went with my gut and put him smack dab in the middle of Oboro and Aizawa, but just know that this could vary. Upper bound being ~185 cm to a lower bound of ~165 cm.
Then Oboro, who we all know is a TALL boy.
Next is Nemuri, who I originally was comparing to His Purple Highness. She sits at about the middle of his face so she’s likely ~10 cm shorter than him at 175 cm. But then I found out her canon height as an adult is also 175 cm! So, we can come to the conclusion that she doesn’t grow anymore after high school and says at ~5’9”.
Then finally we have the rightmost characters: Mic and Aizawa. They both have their canon adult heights.
I hope this helps!

I love when you read Vigilantes, it's clear that the rooftop boys irritated everyone in their class. All the time.

Okay, so a few posts back I suggested that there could be a parallel between Oboro and Sensoji and the way they might have noticed Hizashi's loneliness. If you haven't read my other recent posts about the 3 baka, Hizashi alone, or Hizashi and Sensoji, those are recommended, but I'll try to sum up the important parts here.
Here's what you need to know:
the 3 Baka were inseparable, to the point that their classmates probably saw them as a single unit rather than 3 individuals.
With Shouta and Oboro having their internships together, they were able to grow together, inadvertently excluding Hizashi.
Hizashi was paired up with Sensoji, who seems comfortable diminishing and excluding him.
This all leads to a mock battle between the four of them, with Oboro and Shouta on one side and Hizashi and Sensoji on the other, with all three of them ignoring Hizashi, communicating that his presence was unnecessary and unwanted. Hizashi's probably incredibly lonely during this time. Sensoji doesn't care. Shouta's too caught up in his own head to notice. But Oboro does. Because the next thing we see is that Hizashi's been given his own pair of goggles, and Oboro is suggesting the three of them start their own agency.
It's not just Shouta's insecurities that prompt Oboro to suggest their agency. It's Hizashi's loneliness.
Tumblr media
But then Oboro dies.
Oboro dies and Hizashi is spending more of his energy on protecting Shouta than processing his own grief and Shouta doesn't want to see how much he's hurting and his classmates don't know how to look past the front he's putting up and there's nobody left to realize he's alone again.
Tumblr media
Except Sensoji's already seen Hizashi apart from Shouta and Oboro. He's probably the only person in the school who's seen any of the 3 Baka without the others. He knows how much Hizashi loved his friends. How much of his identity was in being their friend. And how that's all gone now. Sensoji's the only one with the proper perspective to see how alone Hizashi is now.
I think there could be an interesting parallel between Oboro being the first one to notice how lonely Hizashi must have been at Buster Union and Sensoji probably being the only one to realize how alone Hizashi really was after Oboro died

BNHA-THE SHIRAKUMO ISSUE
Let's make a quick summary: Shirakumo presumably died during a villain attack that took place in the internships. He was hit on the head by falling debris. Aizawa said he heard him cheering him on even after his friend disappeared under the ruins of the battle, hearing his voice through the speaker. After the defeat of the villain, Aizawa can't believe his friend is dead: Sensoji and Hizashi make him notice how the speaker was all jammed up, so he must have hallucinated Shirakumo's voice, but Aizawa refuses to believe so. He sees his friend's body being covered by a sheet and, slowly, reality hits him: the debris that struck Oboro in the head had actually killed him, and his body was being carried away. After an autopsy, his body was presumably cremated.
Flash forward a lotta years: Kurogiri is among the members of the League of Villains. He helps them in various missions before being captured. By that time, evidence gathered suggests that Nomus are made by different people, often dead, and Quirks fused together. Kurogiri is presumably another Nomu, although a special one, since he's capable of reasoning with an intellectual level far superior than the other Nomus. After his capture, further analysis suggested that his Quirk had a base suspiciously similar to that of Shirakumo's Quirk, which brought Aizawa and Hizashi to interrogate him, successfully making Shirakumo emerge from his status as Kurogiri to aid them, even if just for a few seconds and after incredible struggle.
THEORIES
*deep breath*
I don't think Shirakumo will come back.
...
Now, stop it with those torches and forks, I too would love to see Kurogiri become Shirakumo again, but I don't think it could happen. Let's see some of my reasons... Again this is my opinion, you can disagree if you want to.
Shirakumo was brain dead by the time Afo stole his corpse. I know Afo "brought him back", but he didn't exactly do it in a complete way. As much as Afo may be powerful, or Quirks in BNHA may get supernatural and bend reality (see Eri's Rewind) , I don't think Kurogiri will ever be restored as Shirakumo on a biological standpoint. I don't think people can actually be resuscitated exactly as they were once they are brain dead, which is why Kurogiri, as similar to Shirakumo as he is, isn't Shirakumo. However, Kurogiri may just have a series of epiphanies in which he actually starts to remember who Shirakumo was. The latter's personality will start emerging again as something that Kurogiri acquires exploring his past, but he will never be (because he physically can't be) Shirakumo again. It isn't just that Shirakumo has been "possessed by his status as Kurogiri" and is secretly alive, because when he was turned into Kurogiri by warping his quirk so much that it became majority of his body, he was truly brain dead. This means that Kurogiri is his new state of being, and he cannot move from that precarious position because his new Quirk may be all his body is; it was already an incredible feat to just appear as Shirakumo for a few seconds. Shirakumo may "come back", in the sense that Kurogiri will represent him in a new way.
TLDR; there aren't Quirks strong enough to rewind death, except for maybe Eri's Rewind, which I don't think will be used in this instance. This means that Shirakumo will remain biologically brain dead, even though his being may start influencing Kurogiri enough that he gets some memories back. This is because Kurogiri is his new state of existence, very precarious and unstable, for the warped Quirk is what is keeping him together. Kurogiri will remain as he is, with Shirakumo's memories and personality ragained as he explores who he was before and starts representing Shirakumo differently.
This could also be used as and element of the BNHA narrative that (while it may seem anticlimatic since the Manga is clearly pointing to some villains being redeemed) enforces the fact that not everyone can be saved. And sometimes it's not just because these people don't want to be saved, but because they have received changes too drastic to undo.
Bnha's message could instead be that everyone is worthy of being saved, everyone should be saved, but some events and circumstances make it hard or impossible to reach absolutely everyone. Sometimes it's other people's fault, other times it's because the society one lives in doesn't care enough or cares too little, and other times the situation is similar to Kurogiri's.
It can also be the message that not everything is lost, for energy never dies, it transforms and moves from one state to another. It changes, it transforms, exactly like Kurogiri did; he is someone different now, but there is still some Shirakumo left in him that may make him start supporting the heroes more actively, remembering the promises that the rooftop trio, which his predecessor was part of, exchanged with each other when they were hero students.

So I haven’t seen a lot of people talk about this
Or maybe they have. I’m still relatively new to the BNHA fandom overall. But something that strikes me as really interesting is that while there are a lot of parallels between Midoriya and All Might, there are also a lot of parallels between Midoriya and Aizawa.
Now that’s not nothing new, of course. But what really hit me in terms of this parallel comes down to BNHA Vigilantes where we saw Aizawa’s school days. And I feel like there was something purposeful in Aizawa and that dude from 2-B, Sensoji.
More to the point, I think there could be some interesting parallels drawn between that and the earlier days of the Bakugou-Midoriya dynamic. Sensoji, like Bakugou, has a quirk that produces “blasts” from his hands, making him a very strong opponent.
He’s also one of those kids who, probably, was praised from a young age due to a strong quirk that’s perfect for heroics. When he sees Aizawa, who made it into the Hero Course via the Sports Festival with a non-combative quirk, he sees deadset on scaring him off, calling him “weak”. I don’t think he cals him useless for it, but it’s pretty much implied there.
Though rather than being looked down on, Sensoji wants to come across as smarter as he is, taking ideas from others and passing them off as his own. And, oh boy, his name is Master Blaster, which I’m sure some kid on the internet has already made into a masturbation joke. Not the point here, of course, but wow. Master. Blaster. Sometimes the hero names in this series man.
ANYWAY, this stream of consciousness that is hitting me after a long day of work basically boils down to that there’s a lot of parallels between the bullying that Aizawa experienced at Sensoji and the bullying that Midoriya experienced with Bakugou. And that should really be brought up more in fic overall. I just think it’s an interesting story vein that hasn’t been mined yet.
