Body Mass Index is the ratio to body weight (measured in kilograms) to height (measured in meters). It is a simple numerical measurement that enables the classification of people on the basis of their body composition. The WHO today recognizes the validity of the Body mass index (BMI) and has set the following ranges to determine the distinction between being thin and being overweight or obese.

Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men - One Sweet Day 1995
"One Sweet Day" is a song by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey and American vocal harmony group Boyz II Men. The song was released on November 14, 1995, as the second single from Carey's fifth studio album, Daydream. The artists co-wrote the song with Walter Afanasieff, who co-produced it with Carey. The artists wrote the song about the loss of specific people in their lives, and being inspired by sufferers of the AIDS epidemic which was globally prevalent at the time.
"One Sweet Day" received universal acclaim from music critics, many of whom praised its lyrical content and vocals while calling it a standout track on Daydream. It was ranked first in Rolling Stone's reader's poll for the Best Collaboration of All Time. The song spent 16 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, becoming the longest-running number-one song in the chart's history at the time, a record held for 23 years. Boyz II Men had previously held this record twice, with "End of the Road" (1992) spending 13 weeks at the top and "I'll Make Love to You" (1994) spending 14. "One Sweet Day" still remains the only number one debut to spend sixteen consecutive weeks at number one. The song ranked first on Billboard's Hot 100 decade-end chart. Subsequently, the publication ranked it as the ninth best charting single of the 1990s with post-'90s sales and streaming figures incorporated. Internationally, the song topped the charts in Canada and New Zealand and reached the top-ten in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Sweden and the UK.
"One Sweet Day" won many prestigious awards throughout 1996. At the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards, the song won the award for Favorite Adult Contemporary Single Female. It also won the award for Song of the Year at the BMI Awards and a Special Award for 16 weeks at #1 at the Billboard Music Awards.
"One Sweet Day" received a total of 42,1% yes votes. :( Previous Mariah Carey polls: #46 "The Roof (Back in Time)" Previous Boyz II Men polls: #243 "Hey Lover"

The one story that scares me the most away from substance use is Jimmy Page. It's not an easy topic to go by, yet I'm still hesitant to post this.
Finding out the pure severity of Jimmy's health between '75-'83, mainly talking about 1977. This whole topic makes me so sad, but I always keep looking.
More under cut, it's a long post unpacking that year. Feel free to add.
We all know he did heroin, starting in 1975, and that he's always been skinny and underweight. But it started amping up in '76, taking more with a noticeable weight loss.
That man was practically on the brink of death from 1977. Between constant shows, rarely eating save for a liquid diet, rarely sleeping, and his addictions... it's scary. He had a weight goal that'd been just about reached: between 125-130 Ibs at 5'11½". (And while an inaccurate measurement of health for those heavier, this falls into 17 on the BMI chart: severely underweight) He dropped a few waist sizes (men's 29 in '75, down to men's 26) and had refused to talk to Peter Clifton after he'd included wide shots of Jimmy in TSRTS and a single roll of his stomach, as it made his ass "too wide." The black dragon pants didn't fit anymore, and fell off during a show. You can see him in the black dragon suit plus a belt during the Oakland photos. Note that these pants had completely fit him without need of a belt two years prior. He ended up at around a men's 26 waist. He'd stopped eating completely for a few days in a row during some tours.
Safe to say, Jimmy was extremely weight conscious. I think he met the criteria for an eating disorder diagnosis, as well.
There's accounts of him having stage fright and anxiety. He'd show up to '77 tour shows completely exhausted, nodding off constantly. Peter Grant had ended up slapping him awake and giving him coke just so he wouldn't pass out.
Then, there's the Chicago '77 show. Jimmy, sick on stage. His eyes are bloodshot, he's had nothing but orange juice in the past 60 hours, along with no sleep in that time frame. Sick from smack and coke, along with all of the previous factors of being an anxious wreck. It's a wonder he got through the first 7 songs before having to sit down during Ten Years Gone, calling for a 5 minute break, and then canceling the show. He couldn't go on that night, just nearly crumpling to sit. This is the story that scared me the most.
Linked below, the show is recorded up until Robert announces the show is canceled.
https://youtu.be/YVCiBd1oodU?feature=shared
I remember reading this account from Dave Northover (Jones' personal assistant):
Tumblr media
This is what shattered my heart, initially reading it. How harshly drugs shattered Jimmy's brain, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. There's also a quote from Jimmy in an interview from the year: "I'm not into solid foods very much. I can't remember when I last had a steak. A few tours ago. It's just that you don't want too much in your stomach when you're playing. And there are some places you can't eat after you come back from the gig." He then notes that the banana daiquiris that he'd been consuming all the time are the answer to any problems, "having that every day and nothing to eat at all."
Additionally, In that interview, Jimmy says that earlier on in Zeppelin, Jimmy "had really been eating" and that he'd tried on the clothes from when he was in school, only for it to be very loose. It worries me more to remember that Jimmy stopped school at the age of 16 and had always been underweight. High metabolism, illness prone, and bouts of glandular fever during his time with The Crusaders (still was a teenager), not improved one bit by his undereating.
Tumblr media
It's hurtful to hear how, more often than not, the media will praise a celebrity for their skinny figure, even if they're extremely unhealthy with it. Jimmy Page is no exception, as people praised him for his figure during his age.
Heroin is no joke, and I wouldn't wish the addiction it so easily presents to anyone. Withdrawals and smack sickness is scary to even witness, completely altering the person it grips. People often note how jimmy was an asshole, especially in the late 70s, but when dealing with a heroin addiction, with what is basically an eating disorder, high anxiety, with the goal of living your music, the goal of pleasing the crowd, getting the job done, and most of all, surviving, the way you act isn't at the front of your mind. I'm sure Page was aware he was an asshole, but with what he was dealing with, it's not important. Instant gratification, reward, matters more. Not dying matters more. Getting the next hit matters more. His image mattered more.
No matter how much of an asshole he was, and some of the reprehensible things he'd committed earlier on, I wouldn't wish this upon anyone. You see the light leave his eyes as the years went on, you know that while he recovered, those were the darkest years of his life that we know, and there's a reason he'd rarely talk about it: Who would want to?
I've heard multiple people say that if we hadn't lost Bonham in '80, then within those few years, we would've lost Page. It's a wonder he was able to still go on in the early 80s.
Even comparing photos of him in 73, 75, and 77, you go from a "safer" underweight, to his ribs completely visible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm glad we still have him around. This whole topic is not easy to go by, and while most anti drug campaigns don't sway me much, it's the slow / fast decent into all of this that gives me such a strong reaction.
I don't appreciate seeing the way it's so casually joked about amongst the online zeppelin areas. People do take it seriously, but there's always the insensitive ones.
(Adding on, since I accidentally posted this as a draft)
Many people blame page for the effects of his addiction: Sloppy guitar playing, distancing from the rest of the band, assholery behavior.
You can't fault an addict for falling addicted. You can fault them for starting it, maybe, and you can criticize them for all you want. Still, a heroin addiction isn't just as cigarettes. It's the easiest to fall addicted to, and one of the hardest to quit, especially when a physical dependency is grown. Withdrawal symptoms could start early, and extreme too. Most heroin addicts trying to quit will relapse within the first day or two, it's not easy as that.
Considering how unhelpful the help was at the time, quitting cold turkey at these points would probably worsen his condition for a while, considering how rail thin Jimmy had been. The people around him grew worried, grew mad, and I find myself wondering how he could still pick up the guitar and rail out the LA Forum 1977 show, producing banger shows through 77, yet the shoddiest shows as well.
There could be little done about treatment of eating disorders as well, due to medical knowledge and stigma around it. I'll sympathize with this part, having the experience of one: ED recovery on your own is rough. I don't know how jimmy got out of heroin and an ED, and I don't think the process of that should become business unless necessary.
If you find yourself falling into these vices, seek help. Nothing about this is normal: not the lifestyle, nor the pressures.
Jimmy's case will always haunt me. I'd wish this upon no one.

The world of rock music has lost one of its brightest stars. Steve Harwell, the lead singer and co-founder of Smash Mouth, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at his home in Boise, Idaho. He was 56 years old. His manager confirmed that he died of liver failure, a condition that he had been battling for a long time. Harwell was not only a talented singer, but also a pop culture icon. He was famous for his distinctive voice and charismatic personality, as well as his hit songs such as "All Star" and "I'm a Believer". He had an amazing career in the music industry, spanning over three decades and selling over 10 million albums worldwide with his band. He also had a colorful life, marked by his passion for music.
He was born on January 9, 1967, in Santa Clara, California. He grew up in San Jose, where he developed an interest in rap music and joined a group called F.O.S. (Freedom of Speech). He later switched to rock music and formed Smash Mouth with his friend Kevin Coleman, along with Greg Camp and Paul De Lisle. Harwell was influenced by various artists, such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Clash.
Harwell and his bandmates started their career in 1994, playing at local venues and festivals. Their debut album, Fush Yu Mang , was released in 1997 and featured their first hit single, "Walkin' on the Sun", which reached number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and number two on the Hot 100 chart.
Their second album, Astro Lounge , was released in 1999 and became their most successful album to date. It contained their signature song, "All Star", which topped the charts in several countries and became a pop culture phenomenon. The song was featured in the soundtrack of the animated film Shrek , as well as other movies and TV shows. It also earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group. Another popular song from the album was "I'm a Believer", a cover of The Monkees' classic song, which also appeared in Shrek .
Smash Mouth continued to release more albums in the 2000s and 2010s, such as Get the Picture? , The Gift of Rock , Summer Girl , Magic , and Rise and Shine . They experimented with different genres and styles, such as ska punk, reggae, country, and disco. They also collaborated with other artists, such as Baha Men, Eddie Money, J.D. McPherson, and Caravan Palace. Harwell also pursued a solo career, releasing two songs for the animated film Pororo: The Racing Adventure in 2013.
Harwell received many accolades and achievements for his music career. He won several awards from MTV, Billboard , Teen Choice , ASCAP , BMI , and others. He also performed at various events and venues around the world, such as the Super Bowl XXXVII halftime show, the World Series , the Olympic Games , Disneyland , and Carnegie Hall . Mystery Incorporated , and SpongeBob SquarePants .
He died on September 4, 2023, after being in hospice care for final stage chronic liver failure. He is survived by his wife Michelle Laroque Harwell.
Harwell will be remembered as one of the most influential singers of his generation.

Eating Disorders and Definitions
An Eating Disorder is a mental illness that has a life-altering negative impact on your ability to eat in a way that keeps your body healthy. Disordered eating can result in unhealthily low *or* high weights-- but how much you weigh isn't what determines if your eating is "disordered" -- what's key is how you think about food and eating and how you see your body. Eating disorders aren't glamorous and generally really suck. Getting an eating disorder isn't a short cut to being skinny.
What is an "unhealthy weight?" Most people will point to BMI as a way to determine what weights are healthy for a given height, but BMI is just a very general guideline and should not be treated in a rigid way. It's possible to be over a BMI of say 21 and still underweight for your body. It's possible to be a world class athlete and "overweight" on the BMI chart. Instead of focusing on BMI focus on if your weight is inhibiting your ability to physically do the things that matter to you in life. How much physical activity do you need to feel alert during the day and sleep well at night? Are you always exhausted and drained? Maybe you need more or less food. And, of course, talk to your doctor about these things. Thoughts such as "I want to be skinny so badly that I don't care if I have a mental disorder" *are* classic eating disorder thinking. It's the most ED thing ever to say. You should not want to have any kind of mental disorder if you can help it-- it's totally possible to brainwash yourself into an ED but it's not an effective way to loose weight and you could just as easily gain weight (through binges) or most likely stay the same as you are now --the only difference? Now you are miserable! Thing is, I don't think that most people with EDs end up like that because they just wanted to look skinny for the first day of school then got carried away and "ended up" with an ED. It would be nice if that were true since we could simply show everyone the facts and talk all ya'll out of doing this. But, I know it's not really that simple. EDs are physical manifestations of unreasonable and toxic pressures placed on young people (most often young women) -- sometimes from family, friends, coaches, etc. These pressures aren't always about weight, it could just be pressure to get good grades, or to be a perfectly kind and loving person without any emotional flaws. EDs can come from the feeling that the world is trying to stuff you into a box and you just don't fit. I saw a post the other day from some kid talking about "I don't think I deserve to post about EDs because I'm too fat" that's some meta-level ED thinking right there. But, this kid thought she didn't "qualify" as "disordered" since when you have "ED brain" weight is the filter for all things in life. And you are always being measured and falling short. I know this will be impossible for anyone with an ED to believe but in reality how much you weigh isn't that important to other people and has a limited impact on your life. You are fixated on it so it feels like it has this huge impact, but that just isn't really how it works. And maybe at some level you might know this? I've found that most (but sadly not all) people with EDs don't really hate fat people. If you do hate fat people you should work on the prejudice it's -- ugly. But what's more typical is a kind of massive double standard. Your fat friend can be lovable and beautiful and fat, but if *you* are fat then you suck. Spend some time considering how little sense that makes. Do you want to be a jerk who judges people by the most superficial of qualities? A conformist who just buys in to whatever advertisements and the most shallow men claim matters? Why is it fair to treat your friends and family with respect, to love them no matter what size they might be --but this can't apply to you? No you can only be loved if you weigh the right amount. Why do you get your own set of extra nasty rules?

Aaaanyway on a more serious note,
THINGS I LEARNED THAT HELPED ME KICK MY DISORDERED EATING IN THE ASS: BMI EDITION
-BMI thresholds are arbitrarily harsh. There is some wiggle room both ways for what is too little and what is excess for almost everyone. How much wiggle room one has is unique to them, and affected by genetics. Very few people perfectly fit in the metric.
-BMI is used for gauging the height-to-weight ratio trends of a whole population, not individuals. (See above for why)
-Obesity is real, but that it should be characterized by significant excess of adiposity that can be traced to reduced quality of health and life rather than strictly by the number on the scale.
-On the flip side, signs of significant or prolonged undernourishment (looking at you, hair loss, "keto breath" and "can't lay down on bed because it bruises me") means you need more, BMI be damned even if you're at a supposedly "healthy" BMI.
-BMI is a horrible way to diagnose EDs because EDs are disorders of mental health, not disorders of weight. Weight can be a presentation factor, but the key is the disordered mentality. If your psychiatrist ever simply tells you "you're too heavy to have an ED" when you try to raise concerns without assessing anything else and it makes you spiral wanting to starve yourself harder and worsens your relationship with food, change psychs because that's malpractice.
-BMI is built on a small range of population diversity (read: White European Men Of Relatively Specific Builds) and then rounded down into nice numbers and then using that to retrofit for other ethnicities by "relative risk" and then rounding it to a nice whole number again. If you've ever been taught not to do double rounding in school, you'll know why this doesn't work - it's going to skew your accuracy, and BMI was, again, used to gauge trend. Trend is relative, but tying it to hard numbers and calling it an accurate image of the reality is just wrong.
-If your quality of life improves with a bit of extra weight (within reason) or if you need that bit of extra for your health (e.g. you're chronically ill and it is a good buffer for when you have flare ups and can't eat, and helps you bounce back after) you do it. The computer will always spit out the math and sort you into bins based on hard thresholds and it might flag someone whose BMI is 0.1 too high for "normal" range who is in reality thriving and tell them to lose weight, and it might ignore someone who is still 0.1 in the normal range who might have been experiencing abnormally rapid weight gain that they need investigations for. Or say, it could flag someone who is 0.1 into the underweight threshold who could be perfectly healthy, and doctors would try to tell them to gain weight.
-Also, weight fluctuations day to day mean that chances are if you are near one of the thresholds, you could swing between each side of it within hours of the same day. Not great for an obsessive mind.
-Asian BMI charts are also kind of skewed in the way that its lower thresholds also influence the East/Southeast Asian beauty ideal. Remember those Japanese weight loss ads where the after images were all labelled around ~35kg (77lbs)? Yeah. Or the trend of Chinese women wearing child-sized shirts as crop tops to show off how slim they are? Or the A4 paper waist trend? All bullshit. Nothing beautiful about being so obsessively thin and fragile you can't even be anything but a display porcelain doll without breaking.
Of course, all these points are being said because I used to obsess so hard about the actual number on the scale and the BMI chart and like. That didn't help anyone. Lately I've been doing significantly better (appetite's on a roll, I feel great, and honestly finally really learning to love my body rather than abuse it into thinness through undernutrition) and I figured these were the things I reflected on along the way.

And the gatekeeping to medical treatment because of weight and BMI as well. I went to the doctor for an ear infection that was close to leaving me deaf. They asked me to step on the scale and only backed off when I asked if the infection was caused by fat tissue spilling out of my ears.
I needed surgery for something else and they told me that I had to lower my BMI to 22 to be eligible. Their solution was to tell me to do intermittent fasting (I have an ED), eat less than 1200cals/day, exercise one hour per day and walk for another half an hour. They recommend dive in head first back into the darkest days of my ED and sprinkle vigorexia into it cus why not.
I could have tumours and their solution would be to lose weight as if the tumours would melt away. I’m not even clinically obese (according to their own parameters) just a tad overweight and with tons of muscle mass. They don’t care about muscle mass if the BMI doesn’t match their little charts.
BMI is also very racist and should not be used as metric to define if anyone is healthy or not. It is an arbitrary number pulled out from an average result from a study with only fit and tall white men in the army.
If they want us so much to be healthy, they should start by listening to us and giving us proper treatment. Not default to calling us lazy, telling us we eat too much or that everything will go away if we lose weight. What if I am gaining weight because there’s something wrong with me?!?!?
It's fascinating how fatphobes' brains kind of stop at "people shouldn't be fat" or "fat people should lose weight". Like if it's tough to fit into airplane seats, or find clothes, or get a doctor to take you seriously - their solution is weight loss. As if anything and everything can wait until you've become skinny.
I mean even if we play along and pretend that long-term weight loss IS achievable for everyone and not just a small minority - that takes time? Even the handful of fat people who will be skinny in five years are still fat now, and they'll be fat tomorrow too. They will be here on earth for the duration of those five years, living and partaking in society.
It just baffles me that some people will always be like "I just don't think anyone should be/stay fat" and that's the end of their argument. Like.. ok bro. Fat people are still here though, regardless. I'm gonna keep needing clothes to wear.

And to go further, because this is a pet peeve of mine:
One of the core elements used in medicine and "fitness" programs is BMI. A system that was invented by a mathematician, not a physician, who used a very small sample size of a very specific population to try and draw conclusions.
Even he, the inventor of BMI, said it should not be used for individual evaluation.
Yet it's what we do. To the point of using the BMI chart to ignore all other indicators.
For example, I spent 20-30 minutes filling out a health questionnaire related to "ways I can improve my fitness" that featured questions like:
How many sugary drinks do you drink a day (on average) -- zero (0); to include fruit juices.
How much activity per day do you do (on average) -- I walk an average of 3-5 miles per day and visit a gym to climb or train for climbing 4-5 times per week for 2-3 hours at a time. My fitness app tracks my activity level over a week, and accounting for rest days, I still average 2.5-3 hours of physical activity per day.
What is your height/weight? -- 71"/200#
Note that while answering questions like those first two, the questionnaire churns along like "okay, so you're active and mindful of what you're eating and drinking." Yet as soon as it gets the height and weight answer, it immediately runs a BMI calculation and comes back with a "here's what we recommend for improving your fitness" list that includes:
You are overweight -- really? What are you basing this on? I am not an idle teenage farmboy in 18th Century Central Europe. I never was. Never will be. When my weight is down in the "normal" range for my height, I am weaker, have less stamina, less physical capacity in general, and am more likely to get sick.
Cut back on sugary drinks -- how do you cut back from zero?
Get at least 90 minutes of activity per week -- listen you useless piece of shit, I'm getting between 150 and 180 minutes of activity per day on average.
This is even moreso for friends of mine whose ancestry comes from outside of Europe. The only way they clear the BMI hurdle is by being so underweight that they're in danger of malnutrition, dehydration, and other famine-related symptoms.
When I was in the army, some of the bigger soldiers I worked with were immensely powerful. No amount of remedial exercise was helping them actually lose weight. Cutting their rations actually made them sicker and a lot less able to do their job.
Very similar to comparing the actual strongman competitors to the people frequently put on the covers of fitness/bodybuilding magazines, the adoption of BMI as a metric and the subjective image evaluation does not actually promote fitness and health.
People who have trained for strength will have built up their core and posterior chain in order to have stability under load; they will look thicker and have a higher mass-to-height ratio. People who engage in sustainable health and fitness practices who happen to fall within those parameters are not the normal. The people on display in Men's Health-type magazines and in male power fantasy movies as "being strong" are actually very weak and in danger of organ failure during those photo and video shoots.
I gave my soapbox speech about how weight loss is mostly bullshit to two different patients in a row yesterday and so help me I’m pretty sure one of these days someone is going to say “but SURELY you agree I’d be HEALTHIER if I lost weight!” bc you can see the disbelief in their eyes. And like. Sure, maybe! You might see some improvement in biomarkers like LDL and A1c, and your knees would probably feel better. But you would be amazed at how much more good you can do for yourself by focusing on things you can actually meaningfully change without resorting to making yourself miserable. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables—it’s hard bc they’re more difficult to prepare and more expensive per calorie and go bad faster than other foods, but they’re what we evolved eating the most of so they’re what our bodies need the most of. And walk around more; sure, cardio is great for you, but if it sucks so bad you don’t do it, it isn’t doing shit for you. And we evolved to walk very very long distances, a little bit at a time, so our bodies respond actually very well to adding walks into our schedules, which is vastly easier than adding workouts that are frankly designed to be punishing when the definition of punishing is “makes you less likely to do it again in the future.”
You get one life. It is shorter than you can begin to imagine. Don’t waste it hating yourself because somebody is going to make money off that self-hatred. You deserve better than to be a cash cow for billionaires who pay aestheticians and dermatologists to make them (or at least their trophy wives) look thin and beautiful no matter what they actually do.

It's easier for a man to give a woman cpr and a woman to give a man cpr..
When a man gives a woman c p, r, they need to do fewer Breath per minute because a woman's lungs are smaller. And when a woman gives a man c p, r, she needs to actually give him more breaths per minute, because the amount of oxygen she takes in to breathe into him is less...
If you don't believe me, you would understand with infants. We have to do only fill our cheeks with air, and it matters from the mother to the child and from the father to the child, whether that's child is a male or female...
So here you will see lung capacity by sex and age and this matters how much oxygen you've need to give them... Paramedics need understand this, but they have to also know heart rate. So you have to give women less per breath, if you're a man, but you have to give them more compressions per minute, then for a man...
Lung capacity varies by sex and age, and is affected by a number of factors, including:
Sex
Men generally have a higher total lung capacity (TLC) than women of the same age and height, except for the 50–59 year age group. This difference is established in the first few years of life, and is likely due to a lower rate of alveolar multiplication in girls.
Age
Lung function variables are generally non-linear with age, plateauing in younger adults and declining after 31–35 years.
Height
Height is the strongest predictor of TLC, followed by lean body mass, weight, and age.
Body changes
As people age, their lungs can experience a number of natural changes that can lead to a decline in lung capacity, including:
Weaker breathing muscles, such as the diaphragm
Loss of elasticity in lung tissue, which can make airways smaller
Smaller rib cage bones, which leave less room for the lungs to expand
Other factors that can affect lung function include BMI and ethnicity.
PubMed
Sex differences in thoracic dimensions and configuration - PubMed
Abstract. The volume of adult female lungs is typically 10-12% smaller than
https://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&client=ms-android-comcast-us-rvc3&source=android-browser&q=Mung+capacity+by+sex+and+age
So as you see, you need to give women more compressions per minute, then men... But you have to give them smaller Breath, if you're a male giving a female c p, r, but you have to do more compressions per minute. It's the opposite with a woman giving a man.A woman has to give them more Breath per minute, but less compressions per minute...
They need to get a c p.r chart... So it has to be broken down by sex and age... Now, the thing that varies weight. Cause people that are heavier have more blood, and so they need more oxygen to get they're blood.Oxygen levels up... So they have to adjust by weight....
On average, a healthy adult woman's resting heart rate is slightly higher than a man's, with women typically having a heart rate between 78-82 beats per minute compared to men at 70-72 beats per minute; however, both genders generally see their heart rate decrease as they age, meaning younger individuals tend to have a higher resting heart rate than older people.
Key points about heart rate by sex and age:
Gender difference: Women usually have a slightly higher resting heart rate than men.
Age factor: Heart rate naturally decreases with age, meaning younger people tend to have a higher resting heart rate.

So as you see here, a male that is, over two hundred pounds is more than likely having six liters of blood, they have much more blood,... So this is another reason, it's tricky to revive somebody because you have to take these variables, height, weight, sex and age the determine blood amount... So this determines also how much oxygen you need to get into the system to get the oxygen levels up to normal, to revive them. And this is why you also have to have an oxygen sensor on them when you're giving cpr... So all first aid kits should carry oxygen sensors.... Because it's a critical component of giving cpr.... Because you can see if you're getting their oxygen levels up or not... So you can adjust the amount of breaths you're giving them and compressions To help, maintain a little oxygen levels, or get them up.You might have to give more breaths and more compressions to raise the oxygen levels to a point where you can revibe them, not enough oxygen, won't revive them.... And this is why people who drowned, you have to do the heinrich, to clear out the lungs of any water before you administer cpr.... This is why drowning victims Are less likely to recover, so you have to do the compression when they're down, pushing up onto their lungs, forcing the water out... Can you might have to do several compressions first before you do cpr.. So it's very important to clear the lungs of water first....
The amount of blood in the human body varies based on age, weight, and sex. An adult male weighing about 200 pounds can have almost 6 liters, or a little over 12 pints, of blood while an adult female weighing about 165 pounds might have 4.3 liters, or about 9 pints, of blood.Jan 12, 2024

So here you are, if somebody swallows vomit in that are any other debris you need to do the heinrich.First, you can do it with them standing up, or you can do it while they're lying down.... But you have to clear the lungs of any debris that blocks oxygen from entering the bloodstream... And this is why so many people who drowned never get revived because giving them oxygen is not going to revive them as Glo died from water on the lungs as well as Conrad died from water on the lungs... Now they could have given them liquid oxygen Intravenously, to go around the lung...
The Heimlich maneuver expels aspirated water, vomitus, debris, and other foreign matter. In treating near-drowning victims, place the victim in the supine position with head turned to the side and perform the Heimlich maneuver to evacuate water from the lungs, unless you know water is not in the respiratory tract.

So if you have sleep apnea, you have to wear an oxygen monitor... We need the monitor your oxygen levels while you're sleeping... And if they fall below a certain level, it should someone, so you wake up and get more oxygen....
So people with sleep apnea are more likely to have a heart attack in general, but they are much more likely to have a heart attack when they're a sleep!!!!!!!
Yes, people with sleep apnea are more likely to have a heart attack:
Reduced blood oxygen levels
When someone with sleep apnea stops breathing, their body's oxygen levels drop. This is due to blocked airways, which can lead to a higher risk of cardiovascular issues.
Stress hormone response
When oxygen levels drop, the body produces epinephrine (adrenaline), a stress hormone. Over time, high adrenaline levels can lead to high blood pressure, damaged blood vessel linings, and clogged arteries.
Heart rhythm problems
Sleep apnea can trigger episodes of atrial fibrillation (AF), an irregular heart rhythm problem.
Increased risk of sudden cardiac death
People with severe obstructive sleep apnea are at a higher risk of sudden cardiac death.
Higher risk of cardiovascular disease
Up to 70% of people admitted to the hospital for coronary artery disease have obstructive sleep apnea.
Early identification and treatment of sleep apnea are key.

No, it's just not having a Cpap machine. It's also monitoring your blood oxygen, making sure you stay in a safe range... So they have to go with a bluetooth oxygen monitor and they can also work with a heart rate monitor as well... Because remember, the heart needs oxygen, the tissue of the heart needs oxygen to survive, and when you don't have enough oxygen in the blood, the heart tissue becomes weaker, and this causes a heart attack..... My boss, larry ward head sleep apnea and he died of a massive heart attack in his sleep....
See, the heart tissue needs a certain level of oxygen, rich blood.Stay healthy if it doesn't.It will have a heart attack... Oh oxygen levels can predict heart attacks.. Because if the heart is the pride of oxygen, meaning not enough for a long enough period it will cause a heart attack....
The heart muscle, or myocardium, requires a constant supply of oxygen-rich blood delivered through the coronary arteries to function properly and stay healthy; without adequate oxygen, the heart tissue can become damaged due to inadequate energy production needed for contraction and relaxation, leading to conditions like ischemia or heart attack if blood flow is significantly reduced.
Key points about the heart's oxygen needs:
Coronary arteries:
These specialized arteries branch off from the aorta to directly supply the heart muscle with oxygenated blood.
Aerobic metabolism:
The heart primarily relies on aerobic metabolism, meaning it needs a consistent supply of oxygen to produce energy for its contractions.
Oxygen demand factors:
Factors like heart rate, contractility, and ventricular wall tension influence how much oxygen the heart needs.
Ischemia:
When blood flow to the heart is restricted, causing a lack of oxygen, it leads to a condition called ischemia, which can damage heart tissue.

Now, as you see here, black men are the worst, and this means they will have higher rates of heart attacks!!!! Then throw on top of it.They have high tendencies for coronary artery disease!!!!
Despite this, Black men had the most severe OSA with a mean apnea hypopnea index of 52.4 ± 39.4 events/hour, compared with 39.0 ± 28.9 in White men, 33.4 ± 32.3 in Black women, and 26.2 ± 23.8 in White women (P < 0.001 for test of homogeneity).Dec 2, 2020

Black men are more likely to have severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) than other racial and gender groups:
Severity
Black men have the most severe OSA, with a mean apnea hypopnea index (AHI) of 52.4 events/hour, compared to 39.0 events/hour for White men.
Prevalence
African American adults have a higher prevalence of OSA than non-Hispanic White adults.
Undiagnosed cases
A high percentage of African Americans with moderate or severe OSA go undiagnosed.
Obesity and cardiovascular disease
Black people with OSA are more likely to have obesity and cardiovascular disease.
Other factors that may contribute to sleep apnea include:
Neighborhood environment
Neighborhoods with higher percentages of people of color may have more pollution, noise, and allergens.
Acculturation
The process of adjusting to the dominant culture can be stressful for ethnic groups, especially immigrant communities.
Facial bone structure
Differences in facial bone structure may increase the risk of OSA for Asians.

Coronary artery disease and heart attack
Black women are more likely than white women to have a heart attack. Black adults are more likely than white adults to die from a heart attack. Asian adults are less likely than other groups to have coronary artery disease. But there are some differences by ethnicity.

Heart Disease Risk: How Race and Ethnicity Play a Role
But as you see here, they say, black men have the highest rate of heart attacks!!!!
According to current medical research, Black men are generally considered to have the highest rate of heart attacks, with Black people across genders experiencing a significantly higher risk of heart disease compared to other racial groups; however, it's important to note that heart disease risk factors can vary greatly based on individual lifestyle and genetics, not solely on race or sex.
Key points to remember:
Race:
Black individuals have a higher rate of heart attacks compared to other races, particularly when considering mortality from heart disease.
Sex:
While men generally have a higher risk of heart attacks than women, the disparity in risk is particularly pronounced within the Black population.

My dad died of a massive heart attack. My boss died of a massive of heart attack!!! They were both white men who were heavy drinkers!!!
So drinking alcohol can negatively impact blood alcohol levels. And so black men having the highest probability of heart attack should be very careful drinking alcohol. So all these blacks that are alcoholics, they're stupid!!!! But as you see this caused my boss and my father heart attacks that were massive and they died instantly literally hearts exploding lack of oxygen!!! So literally the alcohol consumption weakened the heart over a period of time, and it weakened it so much that the heart literally gave out!!!
Alcohol can negatively affect blood oxygen levels in a number of ways, including:
Sleep apnea
Alcohol use can increase the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), which measures how often a sleeper's breathing is restricted or paused. Alcohol can also increase the incidence of arterial oxygen desaturation and disordered breathing during sleep.
Altitude
A study found that people who drank alcohol before sleeping in an altitude chamber had a lower blood oxygen saturation than those who drank alcohol at sea level.
Hypoxia
A study found that alcohol can decrease oxygen saturation during hypoxia by 4%.
Moderate consumption
A study found that moderate alcohol consumption can lower arterial blood oxygen saturation during the early half of sleep.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that healthy people typically have an oxygen saturation between 95% and 100%, and that an oxygen saturation below 90% is cause for concern.

So obesity affects blood oxygen novels, and this makes you more likely to have a heart attack or a stroke!!! Oh, blood oxygen can also cause a stroke!!!
Yes, obesity can affect blood oxygen levels, and some people with obesity may have a breathing disorder called obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS):
Obesity hypoventilation syndrome
This breathing disorder occurs when someone with obesity has too much carbon dioxide and too little oxygen in their blood. It's caused by hypoventilation, which is when someone breathes abnormally slowly. OHS can lead to serious health problems if left untreated.
Reduced lung volumes
Obesity can reduce lung volumes, which can lead to lower oxygen levels.
Increased abdominal pressure
Obesity can increase abdominal pressure, which puts more pressure on the diaphragm and reduces alveolar ventilation.
Limited cardiac and ventilatory reserves
The heart and lungs don't increase in size as much as the body weight increases, which can limit the body's ability to supply oxygen to muscles during exercise.
Treatment for obesity-related low oxygen levels includes oxygen and weight loss.

Low oxygen levels allow plaque to build up an arteries, but not only the arteries, it allows it to build up in the brain as well!!! This is why people that live in areas with higher air pollution have more alzheimer's.Dementia, cognitive impairments had more cardiovascular disease more long issues!!! And so those black guys spinning the cars around in chicago, kicking all the pollution from the burned rubber into the atmosphere, our little killing themselves because they're in a number one candidate for these issues!!! That's why laugh at minorities with pollution.Any minority with pollution are at much higher risk than white people!!!!
Yes, having low oxygen levels in the blood can contribute to the buildup of plaque in the arteries, as a condition called "hypoxia" within the artery wall can trigger inflammatory processes that lead to plaque formation; this is a key component of the "hypoxia theory" of atherosclerosis, which explains how reduced oxygen supply to the artery lining can promote plaque development.
Explanation:
Artery wall damage:
When oxygen levels in the blood are low, the inner lining of the artery can become damaged, creating a site where plaque can accumulate.
Inflammation response:
This damage triggers an inflammatory response, causing white blood cells to migrate to the area and release chemicals that promote the buildup of cholesterol and other substances, forming plaque.
Blood flow disruption:
Plaque buildup can further narrow the artery, reducing blood flow and exacerbating the oxygen deficiency, creating a vicious cycle.
Key points to remember:
Atherosclerosis:
This is the medical term for the buildup of plaque in the arteries, and low oxygen levels are considered a contributing factor.
Carotid artery disease:
This is a common example where low oxygen levels can contribute to plaque buildup, as the carotid arteries supply blood to the brain.
Risk factors:
Conditions like sleep apnea, which can lead to intermittent low oxygen levels during sleep, are associated with increased risk of plaque buildup.

White people are at higher risk, but they're also add an elevated risk.So it's all comparative everybody's at greater risk, but some people are more pushed towards the edge with pollution, then others!!!!
So I worry about mark on fox, thirty two chicago because of his weight!!!
So your brain does not store oxygen does not store oxygen and your brain is a small part of the overall body weight, but eats up 20% plus of the blood oxygen and it needs a steady flow of blood oxygen. It is a pig. The brain is a pig. When it comes to oxygen, it needs steady flows of oxygen and lots of it. The brain needs lots of fresh clean oxygen!!! Your brain is an oxygen pig.It eats a lot a lot a lot a lot of oxygen... And pollution deprives it and children developing will suffer because there'll be underdeveloped, and this is my india has a range from seventy two I q to a hundred and twenty... And pollution is massively affecting them.China is doing everything that clean up their pollution... The japanese have the highest I q, and they're very, very pollution.Sensitive, they keep a very clean environment.Japanese people are ultra clean!!! Japan is one of the cleanest countries, if not the cleanest country in the world! And their average, I q is basically a hundred and seven and growing...
Your brain's a real oxygen hog. It's a small part of your body weight, but it uses 20% of your oxygen. It can't store the oxygen, so it needs a steady flow of blood to work well. Brain cells start to die if they go without oxygen for just 3-4 minutes -- and that's exactly what happens during a stroke.Feb 29, 2024
https://www.webmd.com › ...
Stroke: What Happens in Your Body When Oxygen Gets Cut Off
Yes, low blood oxygen levels can cause a stroke. A stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is stopped, which means the brain isn't getting enough oxygen. Brain cells can start to die if they don't receive oxygen for as little as 3–4 minutes.
Brain hypoxia is a medical emergency that occurs when the brain doesn't receive enough oxygen, even though blood is still flowing. Other causes of brain hypoxia include drowning, suffocation, and cardiac arrest.
Symptoms of low blood oxygen levels include:
Shortness of breath
Headaches
Restlessness
Dizziness
Rapid breathing
Chest pain
Confusion
High blood pressure

So as you see above, low blood oxygen can cause a stroke...
I disagree with this because areas That have the highest rate of air pollution also have the highest rate of dementia and alzheimer's in other cognitive issues because it prevents oxygen from going into the brain in the brain is a hog for oxygen.... And as plaque builds up in the brain it limits the amount of oxygen that gets to the brain tissue but low oxygen contributes to the buildup of plaque and then the plaque further contributes to depriving areas of the brain from blood oxygen... So it's a compounding effect!!!
No, low blood oxygen does not cause plaque to build up in the brain, but plaque buildup in the brain can reduce blood flow and oxygen to the brain:
Plaque buildup
Also known as atherosclerosis, plaque buildup is caused by a buildup of cholesterol, calcium, and other cellular components in the arteries. This buildup can narrow the arteries and make it difficult for oxygen and nutrients to reach the brain.
Low blood oxygen
Low blood oxygen, or hypoxemia, can damage the brain and heart if it persists over time. Acute cases of hypoxemia can be fatal.
Brain conditions
Plaque buildup in the brain can lead to a number of conditions, including:
Transient ischemic attack (TIA): Also known as a "mini-stroke", a TIA is a temporary loss of brain function.
Stroke: A stroke can be caused by a blockage in the arteries or by a piece of plaque breaking off and traveling to the brain.
Vascular dementia: Plaque buildup can cause cognitive decline beyond the normal aging process. Symptoms include slowness of thought, difficulty with planning, and problems with memory and language.

So this is what black people don't understand and this is why they have all this violence in africa a lot of it is pollution driven areas with higher pollution levels.People are more violent!!! Cognitive impairment caused by pollution can drive violence!!!! Because it affects the higher sense of reasoning to control the sense of rage, and when you dampen the higher reasoning centers, you have less controlled over rage and black people live in cities in areas and cities with incredibly high pollution levels and they have suppressed cognitive abilities. And this is where magic johnson failed the black community. He made schools in chicago.Filthier, black schools have to be very, very clean and should have air purifiers!!!! 👍 Yes, they should have air purifiers in schools to help with learning!!!
Yes, studies have found that areas with higher levels of air pollution are associated with worse cognitive function and a higher risk of dementia:
Study
Findings
WHICAP
Participants in areas with higher air pollution levels had lower cognitive scores and faster cognitive decline over time
U.S. women
Women exposed to higher levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) were at higher risk of cognitive decline and dementia
Older adults
Older adults living in areas with higher PM concentrations had worse cognitive function
Brain scans
People living in areas with worse air quality were more likely to have a build-up of amyloid in their brains
Brain tissue
Donors who lived in areas with higher levels of traffic-related air pollution showed more plaques related to Alzheimer's disease
China
Long-term exposure to air pollution impaired cognitive performance in verbal and math tests
Air pollution can affect the brain directly and indirectly. For example, inhaled particles can travel through a nerve from the nasal cavity into the brain, and chemical markers of brain inflammation can increase.

So as you see above higher rates of cognitive issues like dementia and alzheimer's, and that because air pollution blocks air consumption and you have lower blood oxygen levels, and they creates plaque in the brain and then if further compounds to all kinds of negative brain incidents, and this creates lots of mental health issues. And this is why black people have the highest level of mental health problem!!!
Conclusion. WHICAP participants living in areas with higher levels of ambient air pollutants have lower cognitive scores at enrollment and more rapid rates of cognitive decline over time. In NOMAS, a smaller cohort with fewer repeat measurements, we found no statistically significant associations.

And this is why keep on telling them to clean up chinatown, and they don't understand areas with higher levels of pollution have higher levels of crime, mostly higher levels of violent crime!!!! 🤔 So people are triggered like black people are more triggered than ancient people, and so they do more violence and more crime in dirty areas. In chinatown, being dirtier negatively impacts black people when they come in there, and they do more criminal activity because of the pollution!!!! But also, it's causing all kinds of cognitive issues with the people in chinatown, as I was with a chinese doctor who lived in chinatown and both the male and female who she was taken care of which were family members, both had cognitive issues because of high levels of pollution!!!!
The results suggest that exposure to elevated levels of air pollution is associated with increased crime rates. In our fixed effects specification, we find that an additional 10 Air Quality Index (AQI) points increase the crime rate by 1.2%, and experiencing an AQI of above 35 leads to 3.7% more crimes.

Crime Is in the Air: The Contemporaneous Relationship ...
Yes, areas with higher levels of pollution have higher levels of violent crime:
Air pollution and violent crime
Research suggests that air pollution can increase violent crime, including homicide, assault, and battery. For example, a study of Chicago Police Department data found that violent crime increased 2.2% in areas with temporarily increased air pollution. Another study found that a 10% increase in PM2.5 exposure was associated with a 0.14% increase in violent crime.
Mechanism of action
Air pollution may cause people to become more irritable, impulsive, and aggressive, which can lead to more violent crime.
Effect on different types of crime
Air pollution doesn't seem to increase non-violent crimes, such as burglary, robbery, larceny, arson, and grand theft auto.
Effect on different income groups
The effect of air pollution on crime may be unevenly distributed across income groups.
Effect on different temperatures
The effects of air pollution on crime may differ depending on the temperature. For example, the effects of PM2.5 may be largest at lower temperatures, while the effects of ozone may be largest at higher temperatures.

Generally, the side of a city with the most air pollution is usually the side with higher traffic density, industrial areas, and proximity to major highways; this often means the "downwind" side depending on prevailing wind patterns, which can concentrate pollutants in certain neighborhoods.
Key points to consider:
Traffic congestion:
Areas with heavy traffic tend to have higher levels of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides due to vehicle emissions.
Industrial zones:
Areas with factories and industrial facilities often release pollutants like sulfur dioxide and particulate matter, contributing to higher pollution levels.
Topography:
The layout of the city, including hills and valleys, can affect how pollutants disperse, leading to higher concentrations in certain areas.
Wind direction:
The prevailing wind direction can carry pollutants from one side of the city to another, impacting which areas experience the most pollution.

The South and West Sides of Chicago have the most air pollution, particularly in areas with major highways and high concentrations of industry.
Here are some details about air pollution in Chicago:
West Side
A Northwestern University study found that the western edge of Chicago, including neighborhoods like North and South Lawndale, East Garfield Park, Archer Heights, and Brighton Park, has up to 32% higher concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) air pollution than the rest of the city.
Irving Park and Avondale
These neighborhoods have consistently high PM2.5 readings, with one sensor located above the Kennedy Expressway, where over 190,000 cars and trucks travel daily.
Highways
NOx and particulate matter levels are worst along highways, regardless of the season or weather.
Ozone
Ozone levels are highest over Lake Michigan and in rural communities, and are particularly high during warmer months.

To determine which side of a city has the most contaminated drinking water, you need to consider factors like the location of industrial sites, older plumbing systems, proximity to landfills or agricultural areas, and the direction of groundwater flow, which can vary significantly depending on the city's geography; generally, the side of the city closer to potential sources of contamination like industrial zones or older pipes is more likely to have more contaminated drinking water; however, this is not always the case and requires specific information about the city in question.
Key points to consider:
Industrial areas:
Areas near factories or industrial sites are at higher risk of water contamination due to potential chemical spills or waste disposal issues.
Older infrastructure:
Older pipes can corrode and leach contaminants like lead into the water supply.
Groundwater flow:
The direction of groundwater movement can influence where contaminants travel.
Local water reports:
Check your city's official water quality reports to see specific contamination levels in different areas.

So like. I don’t think I’ve even said anything about myself omg. But background, my depression and “eating disorder” started 2009, so when I was around 13 years old, in middle school, 8th grade. I don’t know which one caused the other because I’d never had a problem with my body before then. Like, it was just my body. It was me. But somehow it turned into an enemy that I needed to change, I don’t know. So I don’t know if the “eating disorder” caused the depression or vice versa
But anyways. Been struggling with that for years. I stopped gaining weight at the end of middle school (so at 13 years old/in 2009) because I was restricting my food intake. I averaged the same weight up from 2009 until 2017, so 8 years, most of those years where I was not done growing and should have been gaining weight or that’s what I was told idk. From 2017-2019, I was 10 pounds higher but maintained that as well during those 2 years. Mid 2019, I stopped trying to maintain my weight and restricting my intake to the point of controlling my weight.
So I’ve had a LONG experience with controlling my weight by not eating. It wasn’t even that bad, like I could still function, I never dropped below a BMI of 17 (BMI stands for body mass index) (okay let me go over that because idk if this is common knowledge for people who don’t suffer from this shit)
BMI:
“The BMI is a chart that looks at someone’s height and weight to determine if they are at a healthy weight. The BMI is used to tell doctors approximately how much muscle, fat, and bone someone has.
BMI <17.0: thinness
BMI <18.5: underweight
BMI 18.5-24.9: normal weight
BMI ≥25.0: overweight
BMI ≥30.0: obesity.”
IMPORTANT NOTE: BMI is really for medical purposes only. It isn’t something that is law. It isn’t something that should be lived by. BMI isn’t the only way to measure how healthy you are because there are so many other factors aside from height age and weight that contribute to health. So people say don’t compare your BMI to what the labeled attached to it is. Because that’s really for medical diagnosis purposes.
“The average BMI for American men over age 20 for the year 2015-2016 is now 29.1. The average BMI for American women over age 20 for the year 2015-2016 is now 29.6.” So “normal” bmi does NOT equal average body type.
HOWEVER I WAS VERY MENTALLY ILL SO I LIVED BY MY BMI LOL. Okay, continuing.
BMI and Eating Disorders:
“The American Psychiatric Association (APA) has guidelines for how to diagnose eating disorders. In order for someone to be diagnosed with anorexia, someone has to meet multiple criteria. One of the criteria is based on someone’s BMI.
Depending on BMI, someone is determined to have mild, moderate, severe, or extreme anorexia.
Severity of Anorexia
Mild = Greater than or equal to 17
Moderate = 16-16.99
Severe = 15-15.99
Extreme = Less than 15”
So, just for informational purposes. I was underweight but at my LOWEST I had a BMI of (okay it was NOT 17 just kidding, I typed my weight wrong when calculating my old bmi. It was 16.6 at the absolute lowest oops lol). During the time that I maintained my weight, I ranged between a bmi of 16.6-18.9, but on average ranged between a bmi of 17.9-18.7.
So, for my average BMI, I guess you could see why I didn’t think I was too sick. In terms of normal BMI, I was very low. But in terms of “””eating disorders”””” I wasn’t TOO underweight. I wasn’t “sick enough”.
But from 2017-2019 my bmi ranged form 20.8-22.7. Which was considered normal. I was still controlling what I ate but not as severely (which wasn’t even that severe to begin with, like I ate and everything but I just didn’t eat a normal amount). I was more content and happy mentally so I didn’t put too much focus on controlling my weight.
THEN 2019 HIT AND I GAINED A LOT OF WEIGHT. Because I was HAPPY and NOT STRUGGLING WITH DEPRESSION 24/7 so I didn’t control my food intake aka didn’t control my weight. I was just living life and being genuinely happy.
In June 2019, I was a BMI of 21.2 (normal). By mid-october 2019, I was a bmi of 27.6 (overweight). And even though my weight was labeled as “overweight”, in 2015-2016 standards, that was a little less than an average womans BMI (I wonder what the average BMI for people is now?)
So I took my new weight and BMI very poorly. Because I had lived off of controlling my weight and maintaining it in double digits (in pounds) for 8 long years of my life. So to be considered overweight, to start spiraling after hearing that and going back to my bmi app, which used to look like this for 8 years:
Tumblr media
to now seeing THIS with the color red, danger color, ALL OVER IT:
Tumblr media
Fucked me UP. I was heavier but I was later told that this was my “natural weight” without controlling it 24/7 and that the bmi doesn’t matter, my weight wasn’t “BAD”.
After October 2019 for a year, I had very bad body imagine (due to knowing what my BMI was and being so aware of how different my weight was) but things in general weren’t TOO BAD mentally because I wasn’t actively throwing myself into my “eating disorder”. I was still happy with life and didn’t let it affect me too much.
Idk what happened in October 2020, but I weighed myself and had a BMI of 26.3. Which wasn’t even as high as the last time I’d checked! I don’t know why THAT made me spiral (probably because I was without a job again and so alone and hopeless) but I ended up becoming very suicidal and going back to inpatient hospitalization. During that time, I felt so much hopelessness and despair. I felt like nothing mattered. So I just. Barely ate while I was there. Just didn’t care. A month before I was hospitalized, I was still at the high BMI of 27.4. But during the month before being hospitalized and during my 5 week hospitalization (average inpatient stay is 7-10 days omg, it was the longest I’d ever been hospitalized), so during those 60 days, I had lost over 20 pounds. I lost 8 the month before and 14 pounds during the 5 weeks of being in the hospital. So. NOT GOOD. They referred me to a “residential eating disorder treatment”.
(Residential is like an inpatient hospitalization, but instead of an average stay of a week, it’s a month.)
So, when they told me this is what they’re recommending, I said to myself, “it’d probably be easier to not eat there and “get better” instead of just straight out refusing to eat and having my parents scream at me to eat”. Because before this point, no one knew I had an “eating disorder”. My family didn’t know. But, well, it’d be obvious if I just went home and barely touched any food. Like, in inpatient for those 5 weeks, I’d eat three to five small leafs of lettuce from a salad, no dressing. I did that most of the time. It was not good.
So I said whatever, I’ll go to residential for my “eating disorder”! And it was horrendous. First of all, the staff and my THERAPIST of all people, fucked me over to the point of almost being kicked out by my insurance. She said I was refusing to do certain things when I never refused, I said I’d rather NOT but I’ll do it if I have to. She just never approached those same topics again and behind my back said I had “refused to participate in treatment”. That was the first 2 weeks I was there, where I was still barely eating. I ate more than what I was eating during inpatient, but only because life was hell if I didn’t eat something there. Rights were taken away, you sat at the “beginners” table so to say. Which, honestly that’s fair. I wasn’t trying, so I deserved good things being taken away. But when I heard that my therapist (who was only with me for a week and a half because she quit and took a new job) (gee, I wonder if she even gave a shit about me! Probably not since she thought I was a completely lost cause and useless and a failure) completely fucked me over, because my new therapist told me that insurance was threatening to stop paying, I was ANGRY. like. How DARE this “professional” twist my words to the point of my insurance threatening to stop paying for treatment. How fucking DARE her.
To be fair, I obviously was NOT trying to get better because I didn’t WANT to, but she had no right to say “this patient is refusing to do a. b. and c.” it wasn’t even me refusing to eat or do therapy/groups. I participated in all therapy groups, I went to every meal and ATTEMPTED to eat, just rarely ever ate despite that. No, it wasn’t any of that. It was me “refusing to have a family session” and 3 other bullshit reasons I don’t even remember.
I did not refuse. Like, I’d never HAD an experience with eating disorder treatment before, it was COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from the other mental health treatment I’ve been through. So I thought the things she asked me to do were optional. She made it sound optional.
WELL APPARENTLY THEY ARE NOT. It is MANDATORY to have a family session (and CONTINUE to have them if the first doesn’t end in flames and destruction) with the people who you live with back at home. It makes sense now, like they’d be the ones seeing if you’re slipping into old habits. But it didn’t make sense to me at the time because family sessions had always been “if you want to, you can have one”. That’s why I said to her I’d rather not. WHICH IS NOT REFUSING. “I’d rather not” is me saying “really? That doesn’t sound necessary or helpful, but okay I guess I will if I have to!” Like, maybe that wasn’t clear from me saying “I’d rather not”, but you are a THERAPIST. You are supposed to DIG DEEP and have me explain my feelings.
Sorry god I’m still so angry.
So because of all the lies my therapist put in my MEDICAL CHART, my EATING DISORDER chart, a PROFESSIONAL made up LIES of my “refusals”, I said FUCK YOU to the whole place and just started eating. It wasn’t because I felt better or recovered, it wasn’t because I wanted to GET better, it was pure spite. “I’ll show you that I can do this” just out of spite. I was so angry.
So, I did start eating (very very hard to do, but I was quite literally forcing myself because I was so angry and wanted to prove a point). And I did end up finishing every single meal after that, with so much mental anguish.
It didn’t help though. Two weeks after that (so four weeks of being at residential), I was discharged. I was supposed to go to an eating disorder PHP but it was during covid so it was all virtual. And I could NOT stay awake on a video call from 8am to 5pm and eat two meals during that time. Like, honestly, I discharged myself from PHP because I have some type of sleep problem. I’m always sleepy. No matter or much or how little I sleep it’s never enough. So to sit from 8am-5pm without getting up to move and get my blood pumping, and just sitting down and listening to others, I got so tired I started to fall asleep. I could barely keep myself awake until 11am hit and we had a “break”. I spoke to someone during that time about me leaving because I just COULDN’T STAY AWAKE.
But it was also perfect because I didn’t WANT to participate in eating disorder treatment. Like, I felt like such a FAKE while at residential. I was one of the heaviest people there, DEFINITELY the heaviest person there that had a restrictive disorder and starved herself.
It’s hard to be in a bad mental place where you hate yourself and your body so much. But it’s even worse when you weigh SO MUCH. so much more than you use to, and nearly EVERYONE in treatment with you is stick thin. I felt like such a fraud. Especially because everyone there WANTED to get better. Or at least wanted to take the steps to try and get better. I DIDNT. I felt like such an asshole taking up a room there. People who WANTED to be here had to wait WEEKS for a room to open up. Yet I was there, FAT AS FUCK AND BIGGER THAN MOSTLY EVERYONE THERE, just being ungrateful.
So yeah, that’s why when I refer to my “eating disorder”, I put it in quotes. When I’m in a good mental space I usually don’t because I do realize I had a problem, but like, when I feel like I do right now, I feel like such a fucking fraud again. Like. It’s doing a disservice to people who actually suffer from eating disorders to call what I’m feeling/doing/going through an “eating disorder”.
I had left residential at a BMI of 24.5 (0.5 away from being in the overweight category again). And to be fair, I did end up doing better than I would have if I hadn’t gone to residential at all. 6 months later I was back to my “natural weight that wasn’t controlled by restricting my food intake” (as they enlightened me on during my treatment. I still don’t know if I believe that.) My BMI ranged around 25.5 through 29.3 at my highest between June 2021 up until July 2023. I was constantly fluctuating between gaining and losing weight during that time. The most I gained/lost during those years in total was 20 pounds (but not all at once, it was spread out because I was on and off trying to regain control of my weight. I’d relapse into the patterns every few months and be fine for a few months.) During that time, my patterns weren’t severe at ALL and they were very rare. So between July 2023 and now, I haven’t actively done anything to aid or engage in my “eating disorder”. Like. A full year of NOTHING. Just being free from thoughts of calories and weight and my body. I of course wasn’t FREE of all of that, but god it hadnt been that easy since BEFORE any of this happened.
Now fast forward to a month ago, I get hospitalized for suicidal thoughts and debilitating depression from being overworked/overwhelmed and just dead tired from my emotionally abusive boyfriend who I took care of despite him being able to care for him and his mental health on his own. During that one week in inpatient, I tried to eat, but I’ve always been a picky eater, even before any type of disordered eating happened. But when I’m in that low of a place with all of that depression and hopelessness, I have to eat foods that I know I like/enjoy because if I don’t, then I won’t want to eat because “what’s the point, I just want to die” and then I would slip into the thoughts of “why eat this if I don’t even like it and barely tolerate it, it’s a waste of calories”. I always make sure I have meals now because those thoughts ALWAYS happen if I get hungry. So, I spoke to the dietician when I was there but they must have read my chart and saw “eating disorder” and thought I was faking it or being a drama queen because I requested to have chicken or pb&j at every meal just so I KNEW I’d have something I wouldn’t struggle to eat so that I could avoid by “eating disorder” acting up while I was there. She said she’d put my dietary restrictions into my chart and also sent down to the kitchen.
I never received any type of dietary changes. I never even had a dietary tag, which everyone does if they talk to the dietician and it’s deemed that there are restrictions to what that person can and can’t eat.
The kitchen would bring up styrofoam containers of that days breakfast/lunch/dinner for all the patients. The meal was the same for everyone. UNLESS you had a container that had your name on it and the dietary tag attached.
People had dietary tags with their name on it, I didn’t. It probably wouldn’t have mattered anyways because the kitchen was awful and they basically slapped a tag on top of the container and didn’t change anything inside anyways. But it was just so invalidating because. I was diagnosed with an eating disorder. They know this. This is the SAME INPATIENT that I was at when I didn’t eat and ended up going to residential because they RECOMMENDED i go. Out of any inpatient I’ve ever been to, THEY KNOW. They know how bad it’s been in the past.
But nah. So. I barely ate while I was there and rejoiced when the meal was something I could actually keep down. Because I wasn’t starting to relapsing during this time and I didn’t want to. I wanted to avoid it. I was still fine on terms of the eating disorder front. But it fucked me up not being able to eat things I felt like I could without wanting to go back to starving. I couldn’t just go out and get a meal for myself, I was under lock and key until discharge. I couldn’t do anything for myself, I was under THEIR care. So having that hungry feeling in my stomach during a very bad time of my mental health and depression, it made the eating disorder thoughts start up again. Luckily I got out before anything bad really started up. I don’t know if that’s contributing to how I’m feeling now. Maybe it’s coincidence. Because I was in inpatient 3 weeks ago, left 2 weeks ago. I’ve been fine since. Up until last night.
That’s all I typed so I’ll send this to you now.

How to manually calculate body mass index?
Tumblr media
The body mass index (BMI) of a person can be calculated by multiplying their weight in kilogrammes (or pounds) by their height in metres (or feet), squared. Increased body fatness may be indicated by a high BMI. The BMI measures weight categories that may be associated with health issues but does not make a body fat or health diagnosis. Everything may be calculated using the BMI Calculator.
Calculate Your Body Mass Index
Adult men and women can use the body mass index (BMI), a measurement of body fat based on height and weight.
• Type in your height and weight in either standard or metric units.
• Your BMI will be displayed below when you choose to "Compute BMI".
The Standard and New BMI Formulas
The new BMI is 1.3 times weight (kg)/height (m).
Weight (kg)/Height (m)2 is the standard BMI.
Adult BMI Weight Status Categories
BMI Categories:
Normal weight is 18.5-24.9
Overweight is 25-29.9
Underweight is 18.5;
BMI of 30 or above equates to obesity
How can I determine my BMI risk level?
Use a scale on a solid, level, carpet-free surface. Wear no shoes and very little clothing.
Calculate your weight to the nearest pound.
Face a wall and stand up straight, your heels touching. Your eyes should be front. Your head, shoulders, and back should all be in contact with the wall.
At the top of your head, record your height. Next, calculate your height in feet and inches, rounding up to the next quarter inch. Your height should only be calculated in inches.
In the first column of the Body Mass Index Risk Levels table, you may find your height in feet and inches. For each height, the three columns display the weight ranges associated with low risk, moderate risk (overweight), and high risk (obesity).
Various Additional BMI Tools
Calculate Adult Body Mass Index Widget
By including this widget on your website, anyone can determine their BMI. For the majority of people, the BMI Calculator is an accurate measure of body fatness. It is used to check for weight ranges that could cause health issues. The BMI and accompanying weight category are provided by this calculator. Adults who are at least 20 years old should use this calculator.
Add this widget to your website:
CDC Child and Teen BMI Calculator. The CDC BMI-for-age growth chart is used to calculate BMI and the related BMI-for-age percentile. From the age of two to nineteen, kids and teenagers can use this calculator.
For Schools: The Children's BMI Tool
This spreadsheet can be used by school personnel, creche directors and other professionals to calculate BMI for up to 2,000 kids.
Is there ever a situation where BMI isn't the best indicator?
Other body composition measurements, such as body measurements (waist, hip, arm, and thigh) or skinfold thickness using callipers, may be more informative than BMI Calculator  for assessing the health risks associated with a person's weight in athletes or those who routinely engage in strenuous activities. It can be challenging to obtain body measurements consistently from one person to the next, so it's ideal to have these measurements taken by a licenced healthcare practitioner.
