Saying Sorry Will Never Be Enough

Feeling a bit angsty so I had this idea.

Danny is dating one of the Bats/Birds, and everything is going great, amazing even! They know each other secrets (from powers to everything etc), they have a wonderful place to live (even if its in Gotham), Danny is in college on the way to becoming a space engineer (and he does side jobs for unrestful ghosts), he's actually getting sleep again since leaving Amity Park, gets along with their friends and family (those who Danny or his partner still talk to, up to the writer), there is even talk about marriage and perhaps adoption/kids in the future between Danny and the Bat/Bird he's dating!

Everything is setting up for a good life in his future, something Danny didn't think could have after his accident. He was happy finally, and currently packing up his old apartment because he's moving in with his partner in a few days.

So he felt like his core was being pulled out of him when he opens his apartment door one day receiving a knock to find his parents, who had hadn't seen since they kicked him out of the house after coming clean about being Phantom (their words of anger and denial that their son was 'dead' and now a monster, still hurt)

Sure they didn't attack him or proclaim he's dead but still their last words and anger HURT.

Danny didn't give them a chance to open their mouths, both looking nervous and guilty, before he slams the door close and turns invisible, grabs his phone, and fly's out of his apartment to his partner's place in a panic attack.

His partner, isn't happy.

thinking of jason grace falling in love with you, who just so happens to be dating percy while he's at chb

but its the way his favorite time of day would be having a one-on-one training session with you, letting you win most of the time just to see the prideful smile on your face, and to hear the occasional compliment you'd give him when he actually tried and won

but its the way that he knows he's only hurting himself being with you, and that you dont feel the same. he tells himself this everyday but still refuses to do himself the favor and try to let go of his feeling for you, he'd rather go through the pain of your unrequited feelings if it meant he got to spend time with you

but its the way hes very cautious with you. terrified that one lingering touch will ruin the friendship he built with you. he takes whatever you'll give him, whether it be time, attention, words, anything because he knows he cant ask for anymore of it

"youre the gun in my lips that will blow my brains out"

but its the way he knows whats coming. he knows that one day you'll reunite with your boyfriend, leaving him alone once again. technically, he wouldnt be alone, not really. he'd have piper and leo there with him at very least, but they didnt know him the way you do. he tells you things hes never told anyone else, they just wont be able to fill the hole in the heart he's currently helping you dig. he knows that all of this it true, but hes already thrown another pile of dirt behind his shoulder, now digging even further into his own heart.

"know its for the better, know its for the better, know its for the better"

is what he repeats to himself over and over when that day does come. its what he says to himself as he watches you leap into percy's arms, attaching your lips to his. it's what he'll continue to say to himself as he watches you two make up for the time you lost together, walking around camp jupiter, what once was his home, hand in hand, close enough to set jason's whole body ablaze in jealousy and hurt. he only starts to say it to himself more once you're all on the argo ii together. he'll say it before he gets up in the morning and then again before he goes to sleep, then again when he gets a moment alone after seeing you looking out onto the sea with the son of poseidon himself - remembering the time you watched a thunderstorm outside with him, eyes glues to the sky. it's what he'll say to himself years later before his final breath when he's still thinking of you, and knows that maybe you'll care, maybe even cry, but you'll have percy by your side, the way it should be.
