River forced herself into the corner of the common room, tears streaming down her face.

"I'm sorry! I - I didn't - people in the shadows - "

Slowly, Simon kneeled down in front of her, ignoring the way his cheek throbbed.

"Shh, mei-mei, it's ok - "

"No!" she screamed, "I hurt you and - "

"What in the gorram hell is going on in here?" Mal yelled, stomping into the room.

"Captain, uh - "

"They're coming to take our wings away," River suddenly said, looking at the captain with dark eyes, "They're going to take them away, melt them in the Sun just like Icarus' had."

It was quiet for a few seconds before Mal shook his head and started walking again, his tired voice ringing out after him.

"Just go to your room and stay there. We got clandestine dealings and clients to see in a few and I don't want them seeing you."

"We're going to see the Sun," River whispered to her brother, willing him to understand, "and we're going to melt away..."
