Nothing portents a great commander game like an instant-speed blow-out from a weird, off-color card from the 90's.

That's why I play a ton of Miraculous Recovery. Five mana isn't nothing, but being instant speed solves a ton of problems. And no one ever expects it.

White is technically second in reanimation to black - but nobody really thinks about that.

And that's why you will wreck folks in your Boros, Azorius, and Selesnya decks.

Cheat that fatty out. Ambush folks in combat. Go get those EtB triggers. All at instant-speed. With nothing but white mana.

Oh yeah - you also get a +1/+1 counter. For funsies.

A call comes in mid-afternoon, and it's like the tones set off something inside Buck. It's like gas, bubbles, low in his gut. In the engine he leans forward to eye the others, see if he's the only one feeling some weird sort of churn. "Hey, is lunch not settling right for anyone else? I was just hit with the weirdest wave of gas."

"Buck," Hen says warningly.

"No, not like"--he starts, stops. "Cap, what did you put in that casserole today? Or maybe I pulled something, I dunno. It felt like bubbles popping in my stomach just now."

"Should we be rolling down the windows?" Eddie asks.

"Nothing unusual in the chicken casserole you've had a hundred times, Buck." Bobby looks back at all of them over his shoulder a little unimpressed from the front of the cab, but when his eyes land on Buck, he tilts his head, considering. "How far along did you say you were?"

Buck's only just told everyone, and it's still strange to talk about it out loud without feeling like he's jinxing something. "Uh, seventeen weeks? You think it's a pregnancy thing?"

"Sounds like it could be kicks. Marcy didn't feel Robbie until twenty weeks along, but he was always the shy one. Brooke, on the other hand, Marcy felt her for the first time much earlier. We always used to say she was going to grow up to be a dancer." His smile goes slight, eyes distant for a brief second. "I think you might have a wannabe firefighter riding along."

"Kicks, huh," Buck repeats, feeling a little dumb with the realization. It makes sense. He's maybe been a little obsessive about tracking every change and milestone--Tommy has all but banned direct mention of TheBump at home--he's been expecting it, but even after the tests and the ultrasounds and the morning sickness, something about it hasn't felt really real in the way that this does. He puts a hand on his stomach, looks down at where a life is growing inside him. And kicking, apparently. "That so, little Probie? You heard the alarms go off and you wanted to get out there, just like your dads."

So faint, like the baby is listening, Buck feels a twinge in response.

Honestly because we don't know that much about the guy it's kind of hard for me to form an opinion, and if Crocodad Real then we're going to find out his orientation eventually (since we gotta find out if that was a contributing factor to the Dragodile Divorce (assuming they're divorced)) so I'm kind of okay with not forming any headcanons, since the headcanon could get thrown out the window

If anything, what interests me is how Dragon's orientation could impact the story-- like when I've discussed the Dragodile Divorce I have mainly focused on speculating how Crocodile would've felt about it, but how Dragon felt about that is interesting too

Because if he's straight then yeah that probably contributed to The Divorce, but how did Dragon feel about it? Learning that the love of his life is now happier than ever before after transitioning and being happy for him, while also losing the version of Crocodile that he fallen in love to begin with? No longer feeling thet draw to him because of the thing that has brought him so much joy and comfort? Knowing that even if they did take down the WG the family Dragon had hoped to have would never come to be, because their relationship would now end? And that it would be on some level his fault, because he's not attracted to Crocodile anymore?

Like even if Dragon took things well and the divorce happened "on good terms", it would've been sad for Dragon too.

But then there's a slightly juicier option, because what if Dragon was bi, but the Divorce happened under unpleasant circumstances (be it Dragon lashing out or things getting violent because he couldn't recognize Crocodile) and he didn't figure it out until it was too late?

Because you'd still have Dragon going through some if not all of those previously mentioned feelings, of having to come to terms with the version of his significant other whom he had fallen in love with no longer existed, the family had pictured in his mind would never become a thing, that those things were be kind of his fault and that he had hurt Crocodile deeply in the process. But then he'd be looking at some news article of Crocodile's most recent heroic stunt, seeing his handsome face with that usual, unbothered expression, and realizing he still loved him? That he still wanted to be with him, wished they were together, even now that Crocodile was a far more handsome man than he was? And then the realization that he's bi hitting him like a fucking truck But it's too late. The divorce already happened. He already hurt Crocodile too deeply. Knowing Croc, he had probably already moved on. There was no fixing it, the relationship was over. At least for now, trying to go see Croc could be dangerous due to the WG and not wanting to risk the WG finding out about them and The Kid and Croc would probably be furious if Dragon even risked that at this point, after what he had done. Oh, and then Crocodile killed thousands of innocent people attempting to usurp a country by manufacturing a civil war. Something Dragon can't forgive. (Not to mention, hearing he had been taken down by their own son... Oof)

But what if despite all that, and not knowing the full circumstances behind what had happened (like the fact that Crocodile didn't know who the hell Luffy was), Dragon still loved Crocodile? What then?

I just had one of the most infuriating conversations I've had in years, about Pokémon. One person was absolutely valid, and disagreed with me, and we had a great exchange of words between us. And another person was just the most disingenuous belligerent person I've ever had to interact with. Explanation under the cut.

So in Pokémon games, you have a limited amount of storage space for the creatures, right? In Gen 1 you have 12 boxes of 20, which is 240 spaces for the 151 Pokémon in the game, in Gen 2, you have only 280 spaces for the 251 Pokémon in the game, etc. In total, if you have a living dex in each generation, that will fill up the following amounts of your boxes:

Gen 1: 63%, Gen 2: 89%, Gen 3: 92%, Gen 4: 91%, Gen 5: 90%, Gen 6: 77%, Gen 7: 84%, Let's Go: 15%, SwSh: 68%, BDSP: 40%, PLA: 25%, SV: 76%.

So if you look at those numbers, Gen 3 is obviously the worst game, in terms of the Pokémon Storage System, right? Well yes and no... If you're going for 100% completion, Gen 3 is definitely not super great, but that's only if you've got a living dex and you're putting that into your boxes. If you're just catching one of everything, and evolving them to fill the dex, you're gonna wind up with only 215 different Pokémon in your boxes, which is only a bit more than 50% of your storage, to 100% complete that game. If you're going for the Battle facilities, you'll probably need to do some breeding for better IVs and Natures, but maybe you got lucky with your first catches of each of those 215 being exactly perfect. It's unlikely but it's possible, so no matter what, the most the game expects of you is to catch 386 Pokémon, or 215. With those, you will have a completed Pokédex, and if you're perfectly lucky, you'd be able to get through all the Battle facilities with no further work.

Pokémon Legends Arceus on the other hand, is a very different story. In PLA, you're given a checklist of tasks for each individual Pokémon, that when you complete enough of them, puts a Pokéball icon on their Dex entry, and when you complete all of them, adds a sparkle to that icon. The game does very little to incentivize you to 100% complete it, but it does have a whole task list, and expects you to complete at least a large amount of it. Among those tasks, are ones which require you to catch a certain number of each Pokémon. In total, the game requires (for 100% completion) 3199 catches. Some of those come in the form of Evolving a Pokémon, a TON of them can (and should, for your sanity) be through trading, but the text of the game says that "if you want to 100% this game, you will need to catch 3199 Pokémon."

In a game which only has 32 boxes of 30. You get 960 slots, and the game asks you to fill about 3200 of them. Which means that you're gonna be going through your boxes and deleting Pokémon... A lot. That's the core gameplay loop! You go out into the fields, you catch a bunch of shit, which fills out a bunch of tasks, and then when you're done, you go back to base camp, and delete everything you just caught. It's not exactly the worst thing of all time, I mean, Let's Go has a similar gameplay loop, and that game has only 1000 slots. Pokémon Go is almost nothing BUT that loop, and that only starts you with 250 slots, but you can eventually raise that to 10,500.

So, why do I say that PLA is so much worse? Because in Let's Go and Go, the storage system is basically just a list, with a bunch of different sorting options, so you can quickly and easily delete the 200 Machops you just got while Shiny Hunting, or on Community Day. In PLA, you have to sift through everything, and check and double-check to make sure you don't potentially want to keep any of the things you just caught, and if you want to quickly compare all the Machops you've got, you have to manually move them all to the same place in your Boxes, to go through them and choose which one to let go. There's a mass release option, but you still have to go through and click the button on every one you want to release. Like... there's convenience options, but overall the whole thing just seems so clunky and bad. If PLA was a normal Pokémon game, then sure, I'd say that it has one of the best box systems in the series! It's overall not too bad at all!

PLA has 960 slots. The same as Gen 7, the same as SwSh, and the same as SV. The difference being that those games, if you go for 100% completion, the most the game expects of you is a living dex, which is at most 807 Pokémon, in Gen 7. And that's only if you do a living dex and don't just catch one of every family and evolve them in the game itself. If you go for 100% completion in PLA, you need at the very LEAST to catch 3199 different Pokémon. And that's assuming any shinies you encounter, you either don't try to catch, or you catch them during your initial attempts to fulfill the dex tasks. That's assuming that you happen to catch all 25 of the Kricketots you need without them spotting you, since those are two separate tasks. That's assuming that half of the Togepi you catch happen to be small enough to count for that task. Realistically, you're probably going to wind up with 100 or so extra catches beyond that, or maybe you do a bunch of trading to take care of the more RNG catches, so you can get that number way down. Either way, the actual text of the game asks for 3199 catches for 100% completion, which would require 107 boxes to house, assuming you decided to keep them all.

Of course, you're not supposed to keep them all! You're supposed to release as many as possible. The game incentivizes you to release them by giving you item rewards for doing so! I really don't mind that that's the gameplay loop, I mean... I literally play Pokémon Go every day. I'm used to that. But the reason I say that PLA's boxes are so much worse than the rest of the series, is that PLA has explicit requirements to go in and empty your boxes often. Assuming you keep a living dex in there, plus one of every Unown I guess... You'd have to completely fill, and then empty, the entire remainder of your boxes, 5 times. Catch any shinies? That's going to eat up more of your storage space. Catch any Alphas you want to hold onto? That's going to take more space.

So that's... the entire crux of my argument as to why PLA's storage system is bad. Now back to the awful argument I had earlier about this.

Valid person who disagreed with me said "I'm well on my way to 100% completion, and I never had any issues with the box system. It annoyed me that new catches always go into Box 1, but as long as I put all the catches I wanted to keep in the last boxes, I never ran into any issues."

Like I said, absolutely valid, and absolutely just a normal disagreement. The only actual argument that I could say to them is something like "Yeah, but wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to remember to go and clean your boxes all the time? If you could just go and do a ton of catching without needing to constantly check into camp and delete Pokémon?" And then they could (extremely validly) say "I never really thought much about it, and my boxes never filled past like the 15th one because I cleaned them out often enough." If this was how it went, I could say that my opinion may have even been swayed in favour of PLA's Box System not being as bad as I've been making it out to be.

But the problem is that someone else came in and started saying the most insane shit I've ever had to read on Discord. You see, this person said that because PLA's Boxes have enough room for a full living dex, and a full shiny dex, there's nothing wrong with it.

Yes, you're right, it DOES have a ton of extra space in there, because there's only 242 Pokémon, and there's space for 960. But like, you understand what I'm saying, right? In order to 100% complete PLA, you need 107 boxes worth of space in a game that only has 32, whereas in SwSh, in order to 100% complete it, you only need to fill up 70% of your boxes.

This person keeps arguing a bunch of different things. First they said that "you're not expected to KEEP all 25 Kricketots, so why is it an issue anyways? You can just throw them out, so you don't actually need all that space" which is a correct statement, but misses what I'm saying. They also said that "you don't need that many catches to 100% complete PLA," because getting dex level 10 on each pokemon is what puts the word "complete" on that pokemon's dex entry. They also said that I'm incorrectly comparing "normal dex completion" in SwSh to "100% dex completion" in PLA.

They argue that because you don't get any "real" reward for 100% dex completion in PLA (apparently higher shiny odds isn't a "real" reward), that it doesn't make sense to call THAT 100%, when just getting the badge that says "complete" should be enough. They then argue that if my definition of 100% complete in PLA includes "do all the tasks the game gives you in the checklist, even though most are just extra," that I should amend my definition of 100% completion for SwSh to include "getting every form for every Pokémon, and a shiny for every form and every Pokémon as well," since those all let you change the picture in the dex, so of course that's equivalent. Early in the conversation I mentioned that even if you have a living dex, you will still have extra space taken up by Alphas, or Shinies, and they said that "if you're counting alphas, then you should also count all the marks in SwSh as well!" and it's just... Like this dude fundamentally misunderstands what "100% completion" means in a video game.

To use a different game as an analogy, Let's call PLA "Breath of the Wild," and SwSh "Ocarina of Time." I'm saying "you have to complete all 120 shrines, to 100% complete the game," and this person is saying "actually you only need to complete 108 Shrines, because those give you Health upgrades, and anything more than that is Stamina Upgrades, and there's no equivalent for that in OoT." It's like me saying "You need 900 Korok seeds to 100% complete BotW," and they're saying "Actually you only need 441, because in OoT, the Gold Skulltulas give you rewards up to the 100th one, and you don't get any rewards after 441 Korok Seeds." Nevermind the fact that in OoT there only ARE 100 Gold Skulltulas, and that you DO get a reward for getting all the Korok seeds... I guess this person just wants to ignore how video game completion actually funcitons.

PLA and SwSh have different metrics for what the games ask you to do for 100% completion. SwSh just wants you to fill the dex, and nothing else. PLA wants you to fill the dex, which involves completing every task for every Pokémon. But because those two things are different (because they're two different games), they must not both be "100% completion." In this person's opinion, either PLA's 100% requirement is WAY too high, or SwSh's is WAY too low, but either way, you can't say they're both 100% complete.

Every single video game is different. Sometimes a game will give you a checklist of things to do, and then only require you to do 60% of those things. That doesn't mean that doing anything more than that is "not required for 100% completion." It means that doing anything more than that is "not required to beat the game." Sometimes different games in the same series have different things that are required for completion.

Anyways, my point still stands. PLA's boxes are bad (if you're going for 100% completion) on the basis that the game asks you to fill 107 boxes worth of space, with only 32 boxes available. It's possible that you didn't mind the game forcing you to empty your boxes constantly, and it's possible that you 100% completed the game without ever worrying about box space. However, you can't say: "you can fit multiple living dexes in those boxes, but you can't do that in any other game" and expect it to be a valid rebuttal to what I've said. You can't say "That's not 100% completion, that's way more, and extra optional stuff" and expect me to take you seriously. You can't say "in that case, SwSh isn't 100% complete until you've got a full shiny dex" and expect me to not want to suplex you.
