I gotta say, I really like the way 'Hikaru's form looks here and his instant desire to grant a wish.
"A wish was made to me. Someone needed me."
This line carries so much weight for 'Hikaru' - it shows just how much he wants to be needed, which connects back to his loneliness before becoming 'Hikaru' and meeting Yoshiki.

Years ago I tried to get a book traditionally published, and over months of reading up on what publishers want (who go by what readers "want" (read: buy)), revising, getting rejected, trying to make things more appealing... I burnt out on writing completely. It stopped sparking joy and I stopped doing it for years.
Then I got really into a fandom and got compelled by ideas and just started writing a fic. I started out not sharing it with anyone, then shared it with just two friends as i wrote it, then a few more, and only once I completely finished it did I even start posting. It was complete self-indulgence of all the tropes and scenes i wanted to write, and it healed in me what publishing broke. I now love writing again, but I don't think I'll ever go back to publishing or trying to do it professionally.
Protect your passions. Write for YOU.
I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.

Shippers get a lot of lashings for being annoying and “forcing romance” but not enough is being said about people who force the nuclear family structure on everything. Nothing against found families, but the amount of people who seem to cram every dynamic into a cookie cutter nuclear family mold is driving me insane. It’s another lowkey reductive way of engaging with characters that pretends to less reductive than the shippers they constantly complain about. Not every relationship can be categorized as “sibling coded” or “father-daughter” because most relationships are more complicated than that. Don’t even get me started on the way these people use “coding” *cough* their headcanons *cough* to shut down ships they dislike.

"whoa there pal! looks like your favorite web service is getting hit with enshittification. you should try this NEW PLATFORM, that is only mildly alike in function, has no stable source of funding, and is being ran by some people in their home office as a hobby. this will be a long-term solution for you that you can build a community on, i promise!" <- sentiment i see a lot on here lately. like. lol
#inkblot fr#meanwhile the site that is supposed to be a deviantart alternative still has no working search function#literally if you search anything it goes to an endless loading circle#this has been the case for like. two years.

just saw a video of ocean vuong discussing how as a professor he has noticed that his students are more and more self conscious at attempting to be poets or writers even when it is what they want simply because they do not want to be perceived as cringe. we must free ourselves from the chains of cringe. the truth is people will perceive you whether you do what you want or do nothing at all….
