Wait I'm curious now. What are your grumpy old woman opinions on music consumption?
Hello friend, thanks for the ask! <3 I see you've discovered my "musicblogging" tag in the time it took me to get around to answering this, so hopefully that will go a little ways towards explaining the opinions in question. I'll try to keep this as positive as possible and not rant too much, but in a nutshell:
There is sooooo much incredible music in the world, in terms of both space and time! We've got recordings of music from a century and a half ago that's still available to listen to, not to mention absolutely everything since then. And you can find music from every country and culture and language in the world, too. It overwhelms me with emotion every time I think about it. There are so many people on this planet, and we have been making music for as long as humanity has existed, and for over 150 years now we've been able to encode the ephemerality of that deeply, magically human form of self-expression so that anyone else – any place in the world, or any time in the future – can hear it too. Connecting with each other over space and time, through music. That's fucking MIND-BLOWING. What an indescribable treasure.
And yet there are still so many people (often Americans, but the point of this post is not to point a finger at any country/culture in particular) who listen to only music sung in their own language, from their own home country, and made in the past... ten years or so. People who think music from the 80s or 90s is "old music". People who don't see the point of listening to a song whose lyrics they can't understand.
I dunno. It just makes me a little sad. Not that there's any "wrong way" to enjoy music – if you genuinely do like only brand new music from your own country and in your own language, and nothing else, that's fine. You do you. But I suspect many of these people aren't even aware of what they're missing.
I guess my wish for everyone in the world is that they get the chance to discover their new favorite song or artist or album, some piece of music that blows their mind or fills them with joy or comforts them in their pain, even if it comes from a place far away or a time long ago.
#asks#about music#musicblogging#are you talkin to me#thank you for asking this! i actually got all Soft and had feelings while writing this answer#music just... means so so so much to me. more than i could ever put into words#and sharing it with other people and seeing people discover some music they instantly love is one of the most beautiful experiences#cosmo gyres#personal

Coldwave in my understanding
So, I want to tell about my way of understanding of genre coldwave. Coldwave, gothic. As I understand it. In terms, of I trying to learn music instruments – bass guitar, electrocutor, synthesizer.
In my vision of this direction, there is no need to be a goth. And to be a depressive too. As in one interview someone said from Dreadful Shadows – If you have a depression. Then you will never do any music at all. You will be very busy with other things, and not with music. It is such a music. Such a mood. Answering the question. And do you need to be a depressive to play gothic rock in different its ways.
For me music of cold wave. It is such a mood. Something similar. As to sit a little in a shadow. In a cold shadow. In a hot summer day. There is hot and summer at the street. And you are siting in a shadows of the trees. To climb deep into the trees. In a small forest. And it is little cold there. It is wind with cold. And little dark.
In this terms ideal is a track Clan Of Xymox – Climate Change from album Matters of Mind, Body and Soul. It is a very long title. Strange front cover. But darker part of it I like. They have strange front covers. And album itself I like a lot. Album makes on me a big impression at those times. And as a thing, I like a lot this song – Climate Change. It is ideal descriptions what is gothic and cold wave. In my vision.
Wind is blowing. Cold. A little cold outside. It is dark as darker part of front cover. And it is like in a hot day. When it is stands a hot summer. You are turn on air conditioner. Or take a little fresh and cold. Such a contrast.
Also, I want to mark and a first album Sisters of Mercy – First and last and Always. Dark and interesting. In a shadows, in a fog such visual. It has very interesting sound, mysterious. And also, I want to mark their glam moment – album Floodland. And also, a movement into heavy metal. But it is still in gothic. As I start, I will finish with Dreadful Shadows. With their song Dead Can Wait. And a song from album Buried Again. Such a rock and atmosphere, gothic tracks like Dusk. I like this track a lot. I want to finish with some strings as I remember them by memory, from one of the songs from this disc. As I get it, my own. Very my own.
When winter comes
We all waiting for the sun
Iced breath of a shining flower

It's almost 1AM and I need to finish a project by 8; why am I dancing to AURORA's new album in my boxers with a half-empty diet coke?
Insanity. That's why.
I mean also not sleeping but we don't talk about that
#the dark dresses lightly just has me in a chokehold for some reason#also calling it dancing is generous#I've been awake for like 53 hours#nara rambles#about work#about music#aurora

Shuffle your On Repeat playlist and list the first 10 songs that play, then tag your mutuals to do the same
Thank you for the tag @imlivingformyselfdontmindme!!! 🌺
Middle of Nowhere by Selena Gomez and the Scene [ spotify | youtube ] I was obsessed with this song last year, and it always came up while I was driving.
Who the Hell Is Edgar? by Teya & Salena [ spotify | youtube ] Still the best song from ESC 2023, I don't care
Frankenstein by Rina Sawayama [ spotify | youtube ] I'm still obsessed with this song!!!
Cha Cha Cha by Käärijä [ spotify | youtube ] Also a banger, idc
Te Aviso, Te Anuncio (Tango) by Shakira [ spotify | youtube ] I loved the English version of this when I was in high school.
First Love by Nont Tanont [ spotify | youtube ] The hook of this one comes up in my head more than it should, tbh
Don't Wait by Super Junior [ spotify | youtube ] found this one last year after googling "what happened to super junior" and i'm really glad, lmao
Just Friend? by Nanon Korapat [ spotify | youtube ] Listen, I love this song and Bad Buddy, but I have no idea why it's still in my On Repeat, I have definitely listened to other songs more than this one.
Jungle by Emma Louise [ spotify | youtube ] I suddenly remembered this song out of nowhere last year! Reminds me of afternoons after school, but now of moving houses as well
Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae [ spotify | youtube ] Friend suggested me this song and I think it's been in my On Repeat playlist ever since. Very chill :)
I'm tagging whoever is reading this and wants to share their music! Have a lovely day, all! 🌼

I just listened to a couple songs from current female artists who... all sound the same. Like they've all got that one particular kind of breathy pretty flawless voice. The way 90% of female singers seem to sound nowadays. It drives me bonkers. The only good thing about it is that it makes me feel like, "well, I may not have a very professionally-trained-sounding voice, but thank god I don't sound like THEM at least".
#there are a lot of specific things about my singing voice that i would like to work on#but i definitely don't ever want to lose my scratchy twangy messy scrappy sound#i fucking love that i don't sound like every other female singer out there and i don't ever want that 'trained out of me'#don't mind my bitching#i'm just resentful that the potential variety of female voices is so limited in popular music#meanwhile the men are out there with all these unique fantastic sounds and doing very well for themselves#tom waits; neil young; bob dylan; willie nelson; herbert grönemeyer; udo lindenberg; axl rose; joe strummer; etc.#you could argue that any of these guys don't sound 'pretty' (i would personally disagree. but i could understand the argument)#but each of them has a fucking fantastic voice AND they sound like THEMSELVES! you can't mistake those voices for anyone else!#ugh ugh ugh ugh i want there to be more expressive weird-sounding variation in women's voices#why are we all supposed to sound 'pretty' - and not just pretty but pretty in the EXACT SAME WAY?!?#drives me up the fckn wall. i swear to god sexism is SO ubiquitous#cosmo gyres#tag rant#about music#my music

i've been thinking about something and i refuse to post it on twitter so people won't murder me and my family but... i miss being a taylor fan, but honestly, i don't want to. and i know some will think "whatever, don't be her fan then" and i know she doesn't miss me, but the thing is: i like a lot of artists that have great music but as people suck, but most of those i never related to the music as much as i related to taylor's. like she was a friend of mine who knew everything about what i was going through, then made the music to comfort me (if that makes any sense)
after her dating matty healy, the whole scandal in brazil with the fan that died and she didn't give a fuck nor to the homage on the christ, but she did donate to something going on in the us... it's just a bittersweet feeling, you know? i miss listening to the music but it doesn't feel the same now, specially with her releasing the re-recordings like she doesn't care anymore or just a very mediocre album with fucking 30 songs on it. no artistic visual or concept, just money grabbing music. and this isn't hate, ok? i'm just very disappointed, and maybe i shouldn't care this much, but so what? i live for caring about music.
i hope no one gets personally offended by this lol
