I’m VERY surprised none of you just up and posted these yet

You know, first time watching this episode/series you think this move is about devotion to the cause/loyalty to the empire before you understand what a remorseless narcissist Zim actually is.

So now I’m raising an eyebrow at this because if he was SO ready to reach for that button at the first risk of being outed, uh,

What usually happens to other Irken Invaders in the event of the natives sniffing them out?

Or more specifically, now that I think about how Operation Doom II was still in the earliest stage, what were Irken soldiers being taught would happen to them if they were captured by another species?

it boggles me a little bit how many people are really truly convinced that zim, tak, and on rare occasions skoodge either do not discriminate towards other sapient species or outright like them. tak called the earth a nasty rock. skoodge referred to the inhabitants of blorch as alien filth. i don't think zim's expressed a single positive sentiment towards humans in words or actions during his entire time on their planet

ZaSr Week Day 2 : Sweet & Salty

"These are just like you!"

Today's drawing is a bit quicker, the concept was simple and sweet so I thought I'd leave the drawing the same way. My favorite thing about skoodge is that he has no fear of ZiM's outbursts. in day of da spookies he just lets ZiM yell at him and he DOESNT CARE? He's such a guy. a fella. He says and does what's on his mind and is just constantly content with the consequences. shoot me out a space cannon? ok! make me pretend to be a ghost investigator? sure! push me off a cliff into a terrifying canyon with a freaky monster? I'll come running back to you! He does not gaf.

I like to think skoodge's flirting style is very forward and he just says what he thinks. not with the intent to flirt. he just likes zim and has no problem making it known. "Hey, ZiM!! These are just like you! Sweet and salty! :D"

ZiM of course is neurotic as ever. "SHUT UP SKOODGE." He takes everything skoodge says as an insult. He's salty about skoodge concurring blorch.

OH YEAH IN CASE THIS WAS ANYONE’S FIRST TIME LEARNING ABOUT THE UNFINISHED EPISODES YOU REALLY SHOULD CHECK THEM OUT

Two big Skoodge-related reasons off the top of my head

1. THE AFOREMENTIONED SMEET DESIGN WE MISSED OUT ON, WHO I WISH TO DRIBBLE LIKE THE BASKETBALL

2. If you thought the way he and Zim bounced off each other in the show was a nice little treat, theres a feast waiting for your starving bellies in the transcripts. And it has me rolling.

I would bet my entire left lung that if IZ was not canceled before the rest of the incomplete episodes/scripts were allowed some airtime, the begrudging bromance potential between Zim and Skoodge could have ended up one of if not the most popular ship among viewers. I’m still forever miffed that we were cheated out of so much more on-screen Skoodge antics generally, though.

Ffs we would have seen what he looked like as a smeet in the Trial. We would have seen what the tallest looked like as smeets too, because Zim deadass grew up with all of them. But that dynamic he had with Skoodge during the Hobo 13 incident has literally had childhood precedent which, lmfao.

Also, for anyone who hasn’t read up on the series plans, Skoodge was going to be revealed to be living in Zim’s basement ever since Hobo-13. Not just in a roach in the walls way. Like, he was eventually gonna become a whole sidekick along GIR and mini-moose, actually helping in some of the plans against Dib. Canon exile buddies. You cannot fathom how angry I am that Dib never got to meet Skoodge on screen, yet was so close to him.

It’s so funny how many fictional characters have Rogues Galleries and/or supporting casts who are like, darker reflections of themselves. Like they're [Main Character] but worse. Y'know, it’s good for the Themes. But meanwhile Zim is already so Baseline Terrible that instead he’s surrounded with characters who reflect him by being better versions of himself. "Zim but less awful"

Like, Dib is Zim but trying to stop Space Imperialism rather than contributing to it. Tak is Zim but hypercompetent. And Skoodge is Zim if Zim lacked his most defining trait and most crippling flaw - his self-deluded ego.

Skoodge and Zim seem to be the shortest Irkens to have been ever reached the Invader rank - they both must’ve been highly capable to make it through the Irken Societal Bias against the short. But of the two of them, only Skoodge is grounded enough to actually demonstrate it. While Zim’s ego and all that stern from it - the delusions, the absolute lack of threat-assessment, the inability to think ahead - makes him an incompetent bumbler despite all of skills.

On the other hand, Skoodge is the most competent Invader actually on the Empire’s payroll (Tak might be more competent but she’s actually less of a Real Invader then Zim is, so…). And yet… this lack of ego also makes him the Empire’s (and sometimes Zim’s) punching bag despite all of his skills. 

And, like, Skoodge isn't necessarily insecure. Especially right after his successful conquest of Blorch, he seems to have, like, a reasonable amount of healthy self-confidence you'd expect from someone who has achieved what he did.

He's just not as selfishly self-obsessed and absolutely disconnected from reality like Zim is. He is actually capable of distinguishing between the Empire's will and his own desires, he is capable of reasonably asserting threats, he does actually notice when he is being led into an Obvious Death Trap.

Even if the Irken culture of absolute obedience means he still has to go along with it.

Zim might be, you know, incapable of consciously recognizing that the Tallests hate him.... but his ego and his disconnect from reality actually allows him to put his own desires and his self-preservation instinct before the express orders of the Tallests by just... forgetting that they happened.

When I talk about the idea that Zim has all the traits the Irken Empire values (minus height) just twisted to unreasonable extremes - that’s the kind of thing I’m talking about. To survive in the Irken Empire you need to have some amount of ego and self confidence and self-interest. Being just a loyal vessel of the Empire

Just marks you as someone that can be easily exploited. No matter your other skills. Zim’s attitude is far too much on the other extreme - but it is not alien to Irken society at all. You're gonna need it to survive.

Skoodge is also a nice reminder how truly futile Zim’s desire for approval from the Tallests really is. Even if he was somewhat capable of recognizing his own flaws, even if he was capable of conquering Earth, even if he could wow everyone in the Empire with the greatest Invasion in known history - the only thing that will change is that instead of being hated and punished for being the Worst Thing to Ever Happen to the Empire he’d just be hated and punished for being short.
