Blitz — Official Trailer | Apple TV+
A boy’s journey. A mother’s love. Miles of burning city between them.
Sir Steve McQueen’s “Blitz” follows the epic journey of George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside. George, defiant and determined to return home to his mom and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London, embarks on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son.
Written and directed by Academy and BAFTA Award-winning McQueen, the film stars Academy and BAFTA Award nominee Ronan and newcomer Heffernan, with Harris Dickinson, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, Paul Weller, Stephen Graham, Leigh Gill, Mica Ricketts, CJ Beckford, Alex Jennings, Joshua McGuire, Hayley Squires, Erin Kellyman and Sally Messham rounding out the cast.
In select theaters November 1, streaming on Apple TV+ November 22.

on a personal note, i saw blitz last night, and within the first ten minutes, i started crying thinking about the unconscionable havoc we have been wreaking in gaza for the past year now. i do not possess words strong enough to adequately indict the actions of the u.s. and israeli governments, and it was sickening to watch a movie about the terror of the london blitz from eighty years ago and understand that millions of people are currently experiencing that level of terror because of my tax dollars.
as a jew, of course i have strong and complicated feelings about a lot of people’s Feelings About Jews right now. it does sometimes feel like the atrocities the israeli government is committing against palestinians right now have given many unsavory people the freedom and permission to kind of go mask off, so to speak. but i’d also be lying if i said i haven’t felt more distant from american jewry in the past year than i’ve ever felt before. maybe that’s my fault, maybe i haven’t been looking in the right places for other kinds of solidarity, but that’s how i’ve felt nonetheless.
i don’t think this post has some overarching point. i’m suppose i’m trying to express how i’ve wrangled with my faith and the community i grew up with, a community that has imbued in me an incredibly strong sense of morals and social justice, but a community that perhaps no longer resonates with me anymore. and concurrently, there’s a realization that if i want to continue thinking of myself as the kind of decent, upstanding person i perceive myself to be, i have to engage more intentionally with a genocide that is being enacted in my name, with my tax dollars, despite how painful it is for me. i genuinely don’t know if that’s the obligation of every jew at this point, but at least for this jew, it is.
#this is all over the place#blitz made a very strong impact on me#anyway go steve mcqueen!#moimoianya

Finally have some news about Saoirse Ronan and Harris Dickinson's next movie "Blitz" directed by Steve McQueen!!! 😀 It's received a PG-13 rating here in the US and indicating that the release date should be announced soon as it's projected to be out fall of 2024 both in theaters and then on AppleTV+ in the US. It's a WWII set movie during the blitz in London.

Stuff I'm Looking Forward To In November
Can't believe it's now November and it's about to get a lot colder and darker out. In addition to Diwali (11/1), Daylight Savings Time Ending (11/3), Election Day (11/5), Veterans Day (11/11), and Thanksgiving (11/28) here is what's on my radar this month:
Movies:
Blitz
Steve McQueen (the director, not the action actor of yesteryear) is one of the finest directors of the last 15 years with dramas like Shame and 12 Years a Slave. Now he's back with a British World War II drama. Opens 11/1 and Apple TV+ premiere on 11/22.
Juror #2
Clint Eastwood is now 94 and it's amazing to see the caliber of films he's directed just in the last 20 years. His new legal thriller reunited About a Boy stars Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette too. Opens 11/1.
Beatles '64
Director David Tedeschi has been the longtime editor on a number of Martin Scorsese's documentaries over the years, but he really impressed me when he co-directed with Scorsese the doc Personality Crisis. Now Tedeschi, with Scorsese producing, is turning his attention to the year 1964 for The Beatles. Premieres 11/29 on Disney+ (review to come).
Music:
Primal Scream Come Ahead
Scotland's Primal Scream haven't released a new album in eight years. Now they are back with a new one dropping on 11/8.
George Harrison Living In the Material World 50th Anniversary
George Harrison's fourth solo studio album was released in 1973. Now to celebrate the 50th anniversary (actually 51 but who's counting?) its getting the anniversary deluxe treatment. Re-release on 11/15 (review to come).
Kim Deal Nobody Loves You More
It might surprise you to learn that legendary bassist / singer Kim Deal, known for her work with The Pixies as her own bands The Breeders and The Amps, has never released a solo album. Until now that is! Album drops 11/22!
The Beatles The U.S. Albums in Mono Box Set
Speaking of The Beatles and 1964 being a historic year for them, 6 of their U.S. albums and 1 from 1965 are being released in a special remastered box set dropping 11/22 (review to come).
U2 How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb 20th Anniversary Edition
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of U2's best albums, there will be a 20th anniversary edition being released in various formats featuring unreleased outtakes. Re-issue drops 11/29.
Events:
Northeast Comic Con
I’ve had a blast covering the Northeast Comic Con for years now (read my coverage here) and the Holiday 2024 edition looks awesome with special guests like Micky Dolenz, Michael Des Barres, Kelli Maroney, and more! Convention is at the Boxborough Regency (Boxborough, MA) from 11/29-12/1 (coverage to come).
RSD Black Friday
As if Record Store Day weren't exciting enough as a day to celebrate record stores, but with Black Friday, they have a special RSD edition on 11/29!

Lots of news released today for Steve McQueen's new movie "Blitz" with Saoirse Ronan, Harris Dickinson, and more as first it will have it's world premiere at this year's BFI London Film Festival October 9th. Also it'll be out in limited release in US theaters starting November 1st before streaming globally on AppleTV+ November 22nd. There's also Oscar buzz already for this movie, Saoirse as Lead Actress, and Harris as Supporting Actor, and we just got the first description too and I can't wait to see it. 😀
'“Blitz” follows George (Elliott Heffernan), a nine-year-old boy in wartime London, as he’s sent to the countryside for safety by his mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan). The film chronicles George’s journey back to London and Rita’s search for her missing son.'
