I've always been curious to know this about the people around me. Most people have been in severe pain, but in my experience few have had what they would say is their 10/10 experience. I guess it's just something I find fascinating, as I had my 10/10 experience quite young and I sometimes forget that not everyone has. In my opinion it changes your relationship with pain and how you engage with it afterwards. If you answered yes, feel free to elaborate on your circumstances in the tags!

On Splinter and Colors
I know we all joke about Splinter giving the red-eared slider the nickname Blue and I agree that it is indeed a peak troll dad move, but consider-
This is what we see of the baby turtles in Goyles Goyles Goyles
Tumblr media
And this is the same picture put through a colorblind filter showing protanomaly, or red deficiency
Tumblr media
Through deuteranomaly, green deficiency
Tumblr media
And through protanopia, total red blindness
Tumblr media
Yeah, makes sense why Leo might be Blue.
(there's green blindness and blue deficiency/blindness as well, but Leo's eye bananas still looked red in those)
If you haven't gotten to high school physics yet or have forgotten that lesson: we have three cones in our eyes that respond to light of different wavelengths, perceiving the color red, green, and blue respectively. All the colors you perceive are a mixture of these cones receiving light and yelling at you. (except for purple, purple's kind of weird) (as is black and white, and magenta, and-there are a lot of non-spectral colors, actually) Color blindness occurs when one or more cones is bad at its job or not working, resulting in the eye having difficulty perceiving that wavelength or not being able to see it altogether.
Now, considering he did give another child Red, he most likely can tell some shades apart. So I doubt he's completely red-blind. But it's very possible that he's red-weak or green-weak colorblind and literally saw Leo as having blue stripes as an infant, because they were in a shade he had trouble seeing.
This could also explain why he wore yellow-tinted glasses. They might have literally helped him see better by filtering everything to a wavelength he could see more comfortably at.
But, you ask, why didn't the name 'red-eared slider' tip him off? Splinter's not a native English speaker. He's fluent, but it's his second language and it is very different from his first. English is a confusing and often contradictory language, so even if he realized that red-eared was meant to refer to the markings around their ears that were red-well, what does he know? English came up with all sorts of weird, misleading names for things. The black mamba isn't actually black, goldfish can come in all sorts of colors, and there's a frog called the mountain chicken. Who is he to argue?

Halloween prompts year 2 day 28
Thomas stared down at Bruce-no- Danny as he led him by the hand toward what he had dubbed as his "Secret Lair" which was just an old fall out shelter in the woods that had been well hidden and forgotten about. The door to it was old and still buried under years of dirt and plant growth, requiring Danny to phase them into it which made Thomas wonder how his grandson had found it in the first place.
Inside was surprisingly high tech. "You have a secret lair filled with all this equipment but don't have any weapons or armor?" Thomas asked, making mental preparations to fix that.
Danny sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck and explained his only allies were two other 14 year olds who were also untrained, unarmed, unarmored, and unsuper-powered which would explain why Danny was so excited to be working with an adult vigilante who at least knew what they were doing.
The kid didn't even mind when some of his more evil or harmful rogues "stopped showing up" thankfully no one would really question the reclusive Vlad Masters "going back to Wisconsin" only to never be seen again. No one saw much of him before coming to Amity Park, it made since he would become a hermit again once he had his fill of human interaction.
And if hes later found dead in his cheese castle? Well, the body had decomposed too much to really say what killed him. His will left everything to a Daniel James Fenton/Daniel James Masters which visibly infuriated Danny. Thomas mentally patted himself on the back. It was a good call to get rid of that one. The will was a surprise, though one that can only benefit Thomas in his crusade of protecting his grandson. Its not like he can return to a timeline that no longer exists anyway.
Unfortunately this doesn't stop the bats from hearing about "Batman" operating in a city in Illinois for the past few months...

being an adult means we can buy or make as much self-indulgent shit (as we can afford) and unironically have trinkets of our fave things cause our teen years was bullied for liking things and hiding/denying we were ever neurodivergent to the point of suicide. sucks for anyone that thinks its weird cringe but I'm going to try and allow myself to love myself in little ways now

thinking about not only the specific people lucanis pulls in to represent the 'locks' in his psyche, but the storytelling that happens in the structure/order of them. the underlying ideas are presented something like:
the lucanis who went into the ossuary never came back out again; he died down there (the boy caterina raised is gone forever) -> you're putting yourself in danger doing this (by being close to me), you should leave because I can't bear it if you get hurt because of me -> it doesn't matter even if we do try this, it won't work anyway (again because of me) ('you know what he's like, you can open the door but he won't walk through it' :'( oofie doofie) -> what if the real secret is that there was never anything but the monster in here from the beginning. you should leave, there was never anything here worth saving in the first place. (implicitly: what if I deserved what happened, all along.)
it runs pretty cleanly from outward-oriented attachment anxiety ('caterina won't even want me back like this, she won't recognize me (the same way I no longer recognize myself)) and gradually deeper inwards until we reach self-image and self worth. or you know, the harrowing basic lack of it lol.
"careful -- they'll know we're not right," spite says in one of their first scenes... but clearly, some very deep part of lucanis has feared or suspected for much longer than that that there's something inherently not right at the core of him, way before any demon entered the picture. and the voice he gives those lines to is the person who should know him better than anyone in the world, who he has loved more than anyone in the world -- and who deliberately chose to hurt him so horrifically anyway. 'It's better if I'm just a monster and deserved what happened than it is to allow for the idea that the brother I love doesn't really exist and maybe never did'. it's better if he's fundamentally flawed in some way that needed fixing to help him survive, and that's why caterina chose to hurt him again and again -- out of love. (this one I think he might have a very sad wakeup call on one day if he ever ends up with the responsibility and care of a child of his own in some way and realizes just how alien the idea of ever intentionally hurting them for any reason is to him. oh buddy. also interesting that he keeps caterina as the outermost lock -- there IS a distance he keeps there that he hasn't with illario. he doesn't resent her 'anymore' he says, but he also keeps her carefully further away from his deepest self.)
as far as I could tell the only note in the mind prison that's fully hidden and needs to be uncovered is the sad painful helpless stupid little truth that even after all this, even knowing what happened... he still loves his brother. is there anything illario could ever do that would make lucanis completely stop loving him, do you think? sometimes the trouble with unconditional love is that it is, well. unconditional, even when some terms and conditions probably would have been in order haha.
that's the pattern you see there again and again; he would rather destroy and abandon and imprison himself at every turn than let go of love, even when it's just scraps, even when there's only ever enough of it to hurt him. it's only when rook shows up and as it were takes his hand and walks along with him that he can entertain the idea of changing the story of what walking out the door might mean in the end.

the reason darry stopped being friends with most of the docs was because he participated in a group jumping of another kid and had gone on a bit of a crime spree that night with the other socs (petty theft, vandalism, stuff like that) and it was mrs curtis who had to pick him up from jail the next morning. (they called her and she told them to keep him overnight to drive the point home) and when she got to the jail she was SHAKING and her eyes were red rimmed and darry just felt a part of him break. she grabbed his wrist so tight that he nearly bled from her nails digging into his wrists. he tried to talk to her, tell her he was sorry, how badly he messed up (he was BAWLING) but she just wouldn’t talk back. The only thing she says is
“I expected better of you, Darrel.”
Darrel. Her calling him by his full name like he’d requested she did in front of his stupid friends, like he’d snapped at his brothers for not calling him. she would’ve given anything just to hear them call him “Darry” one last time. But no. Right now, he was Darrel. Darrel who almost went soc. Darrel who had ditched his childhood best friend who he’d known since kindergarten for some douchy rich guy. Darrel who had bullied his brother in the hallway along with his friends just to fit in. He wasn’t Darry, the kind, hardworking, proud big brother of two wonderful baby brothers and the son of two amazing parents. He was Darrel. Darrel, who was sure his mom hated him and would never forgive him.

I really like that old trope that's like adopted child realises they're adopted bc both their parents have blue eyes and they learn in science class that 2 blue eyed parents can't have a child without blue eyes mostly bc I used to read it and go "what an idiot how did you not notice you were adopted I mean both your parents have blue eyes haha couldnt be me" then last year I noticed both my parents have blue eyes and mine are Hazel

the thing about tim being a 90s kid, and not just that, a 90s robin who had to serve as an example on top of being an extremely sociable kid....is that funnily enough he's far more likely to go to a trusted adult for help when he's in over his head, for all fanon likes to cast him as the one who will internally suffer silently so not to get anyone (read: his parents) in trouble.
and like. tim *can* be kind of. listen he's going to do it himself, especially if he thinks it's something he should he able to do as robin (i would argue that he's more likely to avoid asking bruce for help than anyone, and that's post-knightfall only where tim is more likely to think that bruce wants him to be able to handle something on his own & even then he does still go to bruce as needed), but in general--tim does a really good job at recognizing he's out of his depth and asks for and accepts help as needed for both professional and personal reasons. he does it with dick a lot, he does it with alfred, he does it with babs, he does it with his dad (i mean. is the guns school psa good? no. but it does show tim does actually feel comfortable asking for advice from his dad), hell he does it with the league of assassins for a bit in red robin (before going back to dick)
anyways. i guess what i'm saying is that even if the drakes were like. comically neglectful and leaving their five year old alone in cold drake manor because business came up in the republic of <insert country without an extradition agreement here>, five year old tim would, in fact, take the bus down to haly's circus, help dick catch a murderer, and then go on an extremely long exposition about how his parents leave him alone for extremely long periods of time and neglect them, pause for the psa checklist of signs of abuse to look out for, then dick can finally respond with "sorry, what is happening right now. who are you and what is your name." and tim's like "is that important? anyways, batman needs your help."

Obsessed with what America and England have going on in HetaOni. America's like "I keep having to watch my dad die from overusing his magic in past timelines and not knowing how to stop it is killing me inside but I'm not going to talk to him about it" and England's like "I can't seem to hold a conversation with my son without insulting him but I won't hesitate to use my dying breath to ensure I can protect him from beyond the grave"
