Ok so I feel like the best way to combat the deluge of recasts is to promote more affordable doll brands, so I'm gonna give it a shot!

Here's a list of some more affordable legit bjd brands, their general price ranges, and where to buy them! All of these are complete dolls (body+head). The lowest prices listed are from their smallest sizes no faceup, and the highest prices will be largest with faceup if they offer it. Prices can vary between dealers. (Please add more if you know some, especially for outside the US!)

Also some of these upper prices seem insanely high because they include any 70cm beasts they have as well, but I mainly judged these based on the 1/4 dolls being under or around 300 with faceup, since that's typically the most popular size.

Qianhe ($70-116) 1/6, 1/5, and 1/4 male and female resin blind box bjds. Realistic style. Available on Janesdolland, and until 8/02 you can choose the head you want from the blind boxes.

Sprouting Dragon ($68-138): 1/6 and 1/4 female resin bjds. Anime style. On Janesdolland.

UFDoll ($56-155): 1/6, 1/4, and 1/3 PVC bjds, both male and female, both anime and realistic available. The 1/6 fullset blindbox dolls are available on Kikasgoods and Janesdolland. Others are on Janesdolland and LegendDoll.

Evantasy ($125.80-412.05): 1/6, 1/4, and 1/3 resin bjds, all female but 1. Anime style. On Janesdolland and LegendDoll.

And now for something slightly different: branched out and found a decent deal for the Laura Black and White Spectrum figures by ToyCity.

They're a bit of a departure from the more popular blind box BJDs we'd been seeing from Penny's Box, Simontoys, Come4Free, etc. Should be fun to see how other companies interpret this trend going forward.

My package arrived slightly squished, though luckily the actual figures were intact. The character cards aren't too fancy but they're okay, though one somehow got dented in transit.

These are labeled as ball-jointed dolls, but they use mechanical joints rather than strung ones. Their clothes can't really be switched with anyone else, but the dolls are slim enough they can wear most mini BJD and ob11-sized clothes just fine.

(small sidenote: the black dress has some wire along the white frilly part, presumably for more poseability options?)

A side-by-side comparison with Liroro Summer Island and School of Fancies School Haunting. I knew the Laura dolls would be taller, but I didn't realize how minimal the height difference actually was.

A comparison of Laura's articulation with OOTD of Cai. The Laura joints scare me a little because they seem more fragile. Also, the black dress girl has somewhat stiff hip joints.

All in all their construction isn't quite as robust compared to other blind box BJDs, but I still wouldn't mind seeing more of this body style on the market. Far as I can tell this is the only Laura BJD available so far (I might be wrong), and I hope they do more of these.

trying out a new fabric backdrop lmao..... this outfit was unfortunately a MUCH more dubious fit 😭 I think I hid it okay but I ended up having to cut a few stitches from the sleeve cuffs and then coat the raw edges in glue just to get his dang paws through them. And I didn't even bother trying to get the little pants on, but his old ones aren't quite the same shade of white as the new outfit >:/ I fear.... this has me now seriously thinking about what I would need to make these guys some custom clothes.....

I also gave both him and Mimi new eye chips 👀 Momo's are just an extra sparkly version of his original color, but I swapped Mimi's blue for these reddish pink chips that give her an albino look that I reeeaaaally like :o
