In our Monday game on Twitch the the Second Chances, one of our Warlocks, Hermia, found out the father she thought was her father...was not. Her real father was an Unseelie Archfey named Cenna Blightheart, and for a Lawful Evil being he was...oddly supportive. He crystallized a portion of his blood to craft this magic item for her. It holds but a fragment of his Undying powers.

Blood of Blightheart

Wondrous Item, very rare

“This small gem-like item can fit in the palm of your hand or be attached to a chain like a pendant. It looks like a crystal or mineral with several jagged facets and has a purple and blue hue to it. It’s actually the crystallized blood of an Undying Archfey.”

You can use an action to spill your own blood on this magic item, taking 1d6 slashing damage, and speak directly to the Archfey whom this blood belongs to for 10 minutes.

You can use a bonus action to grant yourself or an ally within 30 feet of you advantage on their next saving throw. Once you use this property you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Blood of the Undying. You can use an action to destroy this magic item and use it to cast the resurrection spell. If you die while in possession of this magic item it will destroy itself to cast resurrection on you. When being resurrected by this magic item, the spell cannot fail, be counterspelled, or otherwise stopped in any way, even by an anti-magic field. As long as at least a drop of blood from the target is present, it works.

When resurrected by this magic item you retain your creature type, yet register as undead to spells and other effects that detect the presence of the undead creature type.

Hatched under the starsign of the Windsinger into a wandering caravan, Mercutio had always been on a lifelong journey throughout his rotting homeland. Some say he would’ve been a fine addition at the trading post, hawking his specialty cocktail, Blightheart Bile. Others simply shake their heads and say he should go for a swim in the wyrmwound and be done with it all. Nevertheless, it’s almost as if the Plaguebringer herself blessed the vagrant mirror; when searching for a guide across the Boneyard, few can compare in terms of experience, despite his youth. Perhaps one day he’ll settle down for good, and open a tavern for his fellow wanderers. Or perhaps that tavern will be on wheels, and they’ll have to wander out into the desert to find him. The latter sounds far more likely.

Something that I find funny about Modwyr that she has that low-key jealous line when you pick up the Magister's Cudgel, which in my case is... pretty baseless since Gaura is a chanter and the MC doesn't bind with chanters. But you know what does bind with chanters? Blightheart - a sort of sentient gun hosting the soul of a menpwgra, which (like Modwyr) wants a steady stream of murders bc it feeds on the souls of its victims and if it doesn't get the sustenance it wants, it will rot the wielder alive. And Modwyr doesn't say a single thing about that lol

Since I've been dealing with some sort of burnout since Art Fight, I couldn't exactly fill out a Summary of Art for 2022. So, I decided to whip up some insights into my character's designs, evolutions, and inspirations instead.

that would be topaz!

because she's very new and i am currently in the process of figuring out her design and laying the groundwork for her character. bear with me i will try to make this streamlined but my guys tend to rather intertwined and i have a lot of goddamn terminology.

she's a researcher chosen [guy who happens to share a goal with a certain god who then gets selected by said god to be immortal and have powers to accomplish said goals] who works with the keepers[fuckmassive like planet-sized beasts] to help them with their database of celestial bodies[space wikipedia babey!!!!!]. she's a bit like a probe and her ventures generally have to do with surveying stuff Within a given world, since the keepers themselves are too large to...do much there. she can also transmit/relay information directly through herself, kind of has the whole internet brain thing going on.

thinking about ezekiel a good bit too just by contrast, since for a couple years up until now they were the only chosen character i had. they're uh......a rather nonstandard one, as chosen go, so i've been doing a lot of looking at how they work now that i have topaz as a more normal example to compare to.

but ALSO i've been getting back into doomcore lately so that's bringing up lots of vague hmmmming around about the stuff related to that, namely blightheart [essentially toxic mold bad enough to wipe out whole planets], and how it may relate to Eclipse, a vengeful [former] chosen who got excommunicated for [reason i haven't figured out yet], but managed to survive because [reason i haven't figured out yet].....blightheart might be part of the latter reason. might be some level of cordyceps shit going on there. we'll see how it pans out. ....but also Vibrance has a whole history with blightheart i haven't fully set yet and also i think it'd be cool if eclipse had dealings with HERETIC since both of them have a score to settle with wilddog and-then theres also the matter of topaz’ initial mission investigating Midgaard and by extent the former conquests of Enlightened and------

Deadfire, day 3.

Still having emotions about Xoti’s line, “Self-loathing is a blight on the soul, Adaryc. Don’t make your journey through Hel darker than it has to be.” And how he reacts to it, and what we know from the previous game about his history with depression, and...just a lot of emotions.

Modwyr may be a distant second in the Soulbound Sword I Have A Whole Bunch Of Emotions About stakes, but I’ve never run a Watcher who didn’t wield her and do her quest.

Edér, you’re only petting the talking sword if she agrees to it. And it doesn’t look like she will. (Though apparently she’ll be happy enough to ogle you later.)

The giant cave grub is down (second try, level 8 party), and Edér has his good saber. I might complain that a companion getting their good kit so early in the game is kind of boring if Min’s Fortune weren’t such a very, very good saber.

Tekēhu is at +2 approval of Anlaf already? Or more specifically, got there sometime yesterday when he promised to get Aruihi to let the black market continue? Goodness, that was quick.

I usually push Tekēhu towards leadership, because he does turn out to be good at it, but a) I think Anlaf might like the ending the Huana get without him better, and b) some recent conversations about the Gifted Kid Burnout Experience™ have brought up some feelings I have about the word “potential”. The whole concept behind it, too, sure, but the word itself makes me want to get violent.

So, who’s doing their best Arkemyr impression this time? I think it’s Serafen’s turn.

There’s something beautiful about having enough points in Mechanics to completely clean Arkemyr out. He deserves it.

And I think I’m going to put that very nice armor on Tekēhu. He can show off his chest again after this is all over.

Wait, what?! I’m pretty sure I pushed Xoti consistently towards giving up the souls. Yeah, no, it’s reload time.

Well, that trip through the Hungry Shoals could’ve gone better. Let’s take a minute to commend Eld Engrim’s soul to Magran.

Ooh, there’s Blightheart, Maia will have her good gun as soon as I get done here and head back to the ship to give it to her.

It says something that that’s her good gun rather than the one she gets from her quest.

Apparently this is the playthrough for doing islands for the mapping quests out of order—I still need to talk to Sanza about the Port Maje neighborhood, but I’ve already done one island for the Tikawara quest and one for the Burning Shoals.

Are you sure about the three red skulls rating on the collapsed coal mine? Because the forgotten catacomb didn’t have that, and that was way more difficult.

Ha, I discovered Poko Kohara by accident while trying to find the next island for the Tikawara mapping quest. I haven’t even been to Tikawara proper. I suppose I’ll be back later.

Well, now that I’ve landed in Tikawara, I’ve got a decision to make: do Maia’s quest or no? Right now it’s a solid “maybe”. I can have a good think about it as I explore the hinterlands.

Aww, lagufaeth babies. Took me a couple of tries to get Himuihi to agree to let them go, though. Huh, I’ve never failed that conversation before, I didn’t even know there were wrong choices.

And I’ll have to decide on Maia’s quest and then head for Poko Kohara in the morning, as it’s really gotten very late.
