Night Orchid- A Shadowheart-Inspired Perfume Blend

this is a recipe for an essential oil blend which can be used for aromatherapy in an oil warmer or as a perfume.  The recipe is a RATIO, which means that it can be easily doubled or tripled depending on what you’re using it for.  

Inspired by Shadowheart, cleric of the Nightbringer, this perfume evokes a lone, graceful bloom lit by moonlight, rising from dangerously dark waters.  Dizzying white florals intoxicate and beckon, with hints of dampness and green vibrancy. Delicate, rich, and layered, as it fades a hint of sacred ritual incense remains among the wilted petals, forgotten offerings at a forbidden altar.

Can be used in lotions, cologne bases or with a carrier oil, but would not recommend for use in cosmetics that are applied to the face or mouth.  As I have allergies stemming from many synthetic scents, I only use essential oils.  Tangerine oil is photoreactive!  Please do not apply before going into direct sunlight, as it can cause the skin to burn.

Shadowheart Essential Oil Blend

2 drops Amyris (amyris balsamifera) Essential Oil

3 drops Vanilla (vanilla planifolia) Botanical Extract

2 drops Myrrh (commiphora myrrha) Essential Oil

1 drop Ylang Ylang (cananga adorata) Essential Oil

2 drops Tangerine (citrus reticulata) Essential Oil

3 drops Petitgrain [bitter orange leaf] (citrus x aurantium) Essential Oil

Notes:

Wet:  Ylang ylang hits you in the face with a sugary white floral, slowly tempering into the green, watery petitgrain.  As the initial aggressive floral fades, the sweet tangerine is allowed to come through to brighten it all, and the vanilla rounds it out.  Soft hints of the woody-resin scent of the amyris and myrrh are there, but only as background players.

Dry: Vanilla, sandalwood, and resin with gentle hints of the fruity floral smells.  It becomes softer and much darker, with hints of church incense and dusty wood.

Warnings:

Please be aware if you’ve never used essential oils- they should be diluted with a carrier oil before being applied to skin.  Good quality grapeseed oil isn’t a bad choice, and it’s cheap!  I use sweet almond usually.   

Not a food safe blend.  

Store your finished product in a container that is tinted, as exposure to sunlight will make the scent fade faster.

I use Vanilla botanical extract, but vanilla oleoresin is also fine, though it will tint your finished perfume brownish. 

As noted above, tangerine (and all citrus) essential oil is photoreactive (reacts with sunlight). I have very sensitive pasty skin, but I’m always careful to only apply diluted, and have yet to be burned.

Not a warning just a note, Amyris is the most sustainable and affordable substitute for sandalwood; if you can afford sandalwood obviously it's superior, but if you find it for cheap...it's not real sandalwood.

Basic Spell Oils

I should have posted this a lot earlier, but I forgot ..

Oils are a great way to create herbal blends for spell work - oil preserves the scent, taste and herbal matter if stored away from sunlight (you can store in coloured glass) and can be adapted to make infused olive oil or cooking oils for your kitchen witchery, the dress candles, to add to glamour spells, or to make perfume bases.

Basic Recipe Formula:

Essential oils

Carrier oil such as sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, sunflower oil, apricot oil etc.

A small jar with a dropper or dropper top to store the oil in

Optional:

Vitamin E oil

herbs to create an infusion

Determine the intention of the oil (love, protection, confidence etc.) and gather the herbs and essential oils that have association (personal or common) with aspects of that intention

Add a few pinches of dried herbs to your bottle

Add a few drops of your essential oil (up to 10% of the bottle)

If using, add a drop of vitamin E oil - this can make it better for skin application and also stops the oil from going rancid from the herbal matters

Add the carrier oil and fill to the top, cap and shake to blend - as you shake you can say a prayer, chant, or focus your energy to charge the oil

Allow to sit for at least a week before use, as it ages it will start to macerate and smell more harmonious.

Date Night Dinner Oil

This is an olive cooking oil to be used in salads, sauces, to spread on breads, or to marinate meats and vegetables in. It is packed full of aphrodisiac herbs and summer spices

Olive oil

Garlic, rosemary, ginger, star anise, and chili

Strainer

For a quick infusion, add in your oil and herbs into a pan and simmer on a low heat for 30 minutes.

Allow to cool, strain and use within 1-2 weeks

Attraction Oil

The attraction oil combines aphrodisiacs and anti-anxiety herbs into an oil or perfume. The intention is to attract and command attention, to boost your confidence, and as a base for seduction work.

Add your carrier oil to your oil dropper or perfume bottle/roller - for this I’d recommend a rosehip oil, apricot oil or a neutral grapeseed oil.

Turn your herbs into oils either via essential oils or add them dried straight to your carrier oil to infuse: rose, clove, vervain, cinnamon, licorice, nutmeg, frankincense, apple blossom, jasmine, ylang ylang, lavender, cocoa, and/or gingseng - cater to personal preferences and match scents together, I recommend using between 3-8 oils or herbs.

Example scent profile: rose, lavender, apple blossom, vervain, cinnamon, licorice, gingeseng (spicy floral - I’d also add a little patchouli if turning into a perfume)

These types of recipes are where having a grimoire, notebook, or journal comes in very handy! Keep record of what you've tried, what scents match well, what is repellent, what works for you, plan out recipes before hand.

My nephew reviews perfume

I am glad you asked this! (Apologies in advance for the cunt I’m about to serve in this answer)

I exclusively wear Tom Ford blends. My latest scent from Mr. Ford is Soleil Blanc. Paired with the shimmering body oil.

Top notes are Pistachio, Bergamot, Cardamom and Pink Pepper. Middle notes are Tuberose, Ylang-Ylang and Jasmine. Base notes are Coconut, Amber, Tonka Bean and Benzoin

My mother used to always put Ylang-Ylang in my bath water as a child and Pistachio is my favorite flavor anything. That’s what sold me.

However I also think a pure Violet Perfume would be quite nice. One hundred pounds of violets produce only one ounce of Violet extract. Making it one of the finest scents you can own.

If you are ever in the south of France, visit the small town of Grasse (the perfume capitol of Europe) There you can create your own perfume whilst touring some of the oldest perfume factories in the world.
