Prompt 13 - Basilisk

Remus and Regulus checked the property for enchantments but found nothing to difficult to disable.  Regulus donned the invisibility cloak and they silently entered the house. 

Barty Crouch Sr. had already left for the ministry, so at least they didn’t have him to deal with either. Sirius, Remus and Marcus lifted their noses and all inhaled deeply. The three wolves glanced at each other, silently confirming the presence of a Horcrux. Sirius nodded at James, sensing that Regulus was beside him, so he'd see the movement too. It was time to hunt down the last Horcrux.

The small group crept up the stairs. The werewolves kept up their sniffing. Sirius could tell Barty Crouch was in the second room to the right of the stairs. He had to work hard not to gag on the scent of that awful cologne the man wore. Regulus’s head appeared, bobbing in the air beside the door. Sirius nodded towards the door, Regulus took a deep, steadying breath and fully vanished again. The door creaked open and Regulus began to groan. 

“Bartemius, Bartemius!” He moaned mournfully. “Bartemius!”

“What, what?!” The startled man's voice croaked. Sirius could imagine the man sitting straight up in his bed trying to figure out where the voice was coming from. 

“Bartemius Crouch!” Regulus roared, the lights in the house flickering. Barty screamed.

“Reg? Reg is that you?” Came his strained, reedy voice. 

“Yes, it is I. Barty, I have come to warn you,” Regulus rattled some chains he’d conjured. Little shit, Sirius rolled his eyes. He’d be so against using chains and now there he was being all dramatic, Sirius was so proud. 

“War-warn me?” Barty stammered. Sirius could smell the fear radiating from that room as Regulus continued tormenting Barty. Remus nudged him, and they spilt up, searching for the cup. 

It was definitely on the upper floor, the scent had been faint when they came in and had only got stronger the higher up the stairs they climbed. The only issue was pinpointing it to a room. 

The scent was growing fainter again. Marcus opened a door at the far end of the hall and jumped back. 

“There’s a woman in there!” He sent across their mental link and showed them the image in his mind. A woman with the same nose and mousy hair that Barty had was sleeping peacefully in a huge bed, covered in heavy white sheets and pillows. She looked pinched with illness. 

“Leave her,” Remus ordered through the link. “The Horcrux is back the other way.”

“If you do not mend your ways, Bartemius, you will be doomed to wander for all eternity, never finding rest, just like me!” Regulus rattled the chains again and flickered the lights. Sirius heard a thud and through the slit in the doorway, he saw Barty on his knees, his hands clasped in front of him as he begged Regulus to spare him. “That is out of my hands Barty. I am just here to warn you. The rest is up to you,” The cup! It was there on Barty’s desk. 

“Reg, please, what can I do?” Barty pleaded. Sirius didn’t know how to signal to Regulus where the cup was, but then the cup vanished. He blinked, making sure he wasn't missing it. Regulus had picked up the cup and hidden it under the cloak. 

“Repent your vicious ways, Bartemius, only then will you begin to clear yourself for the afterlife.” Regulus took a few loud footsteps towards the opposite wall. “Goodbye Barty,” He moaned sadly, shaking his chains. “Be better than I was…” His voice quieter as he trailed off. Barty sobbed on the floor, his head in his hands. 

Sirius felt something brush against him and Regulus’s smirking face reappeared along with his hand, firmly grasping Hufflepuffs cup.

“Let’s go stab this thing with the Basilisk fang before he notices it’s gone,” Regulus whispered, and just as silently as they entered they fled the Crouch family home. One step closer to ending the war.

Imagine Remus in first year looking sad and Sirius saying “What’s wrong” and Remus responds with, “I got another cut that’s going to turn into an ugly scar.” And Sirius just smiles and says, “Oh that’s why you look cooler.”

Then Remus as a teacher sees a kid who has a cut and being insecure about it, he looks at them, with a frown then asking, “What’s wrong?” The child says, “I got a new scar.” Then Remus just smiles and says “That’s why you look cooler.”

The wolf blinked at her-thrice.

In the early days, months, years of this, they had crafted a silent code between them. Using the few moments she'd been able to dredge up speech, whispering through the near-invisible holes in the iron coffin.

One blink for yes. Two for no. Three for Are you all right? Four for I am here, I am with you. Five for This is is real, you are awake.

Fenrys again blinked three times. Are you all right?

Aelin swallowed against the thickness in her throat, her tongue peeling off the roof of her mouth. She blinked once. Yes.

She counted his blinks.

Six.

He'd made that one up. Liar, or something like it. She refused to acknowledge that particular code.

She blinked once again. Yes.

Dark eyes scanned her. He'd seen everything. Every moment of it. If he were permitted to shift, he could tell her what was fabricated and what was real. If any of it had been real.

ONCE AGAIN EATING BC A CN FAN DUG UP PICS OF CONAN AND KOGORO GIVING SOMEONE CPR AND THEY ACTUALLY POSED CORRECTLY FOR IT (LIFTING UP THE PATIENT'S CHIN, PINCHING THE NOSE ETC)

Someone else also mentioned how Conan's response "maybe she hasn't woken up completely" when ran was confused over ai kissing her (that was totally not how CPR works) would seemingly imply that ai wanted to take the chance and kiss Conan, but instead got the wrong person. He could very well have just said smth like "er haha idk?" And glossed it over.

Additionally, ran just watched him, a "first grader", dive into the ocean to save his fellow first grader "friend" and similarly sometime later, watched that same first grader "friend" dive into the very same ocean to save him. That's gonna give her a "wow they're so willing to risk their lives for each other, it's as if they can't lose one another" impression 😭😭😭

Granted ran does not know Conan is shinichi and doesn't want to suspect anymore (Conan kun is Conan kun!) after seeing how different he is from her ideal image of shinichi, but still. If you think about how the 2 possible scenarios (if shinichi comes back) are:

1. He tells her the truth and she realises how willing he is for another girl that's gonna make her feel bad

2. If he doesn't tell her the truth, she'll never realise this, and it'll make their relationship partially untruthful because they're not open w each other

And neither sound like good endings doesn't it, he's putting more burdens on himself to assure ran, who is on most part emotionally vulnerable

In my most humble opinion I think he actually DID catch her drift that she kissed ran instead of letting him do it, on purpose because she is conscious of the fact that he and ran are currently dating at that point of time. Added with his confused thinking stare at her as she smiles back at him thinking "I returned it properly, your lips", he's sure to be trying to understand her motive and feelings. But I bet he ends up short BC he can't deduce the heart of the woman he (subconsciously) loves haha

I mean I might also be thinking too much, putting further analysis on top of other ppl's analysis but that's the fun in deductions isn't it, bouncing ideas around until you get it. It's not as fun to get the answer straightaway without effort
