Movie Review | Black Sunday (Bava, 1960)

Has everything you would want in a scary movie: creepy crypts and spooky cemeteries, howling wolves, big doggos, a helmet haired henchman, a decayed face with great big gaping eyes covered in scorpions, a bat attack as funny as the one in The House by the Cemetery, larger than life violence that pops out at you, enough shadows for a hundred movies, and of course, a thick cloak of fog. This should be enough to fill up your foggy movie punchcard and finally earn that fabled submarine sandwich. 

And at the centre of it all, Barbara Steele, her feline eyes almost wide enough to fill the screen, embodying both joyous evil and warmth and good, and equally beguiling in either mode.
