hello :3 i'd like to offer my cat The Captain. Most of the time he looks silver+white, but there are spots in the silver that are brown (on the back, feet and near his butthole). I know he's probably quite ordinary, but to me he is unique. Thanks for seeing him! I love your blog, it cheers me up<3

pictured with my other cat, whose name translates to Holy Hell (we call it "Little Hell"). We think they are siblings. You can ID Hell as well if you like :3

(text in image says 'FIND FIVE DIFFERENCES')
you've given me a very interesting guy!! as a baseline, he's a black silver mackerel tabby with moderate white spotting.
those spots are definitely throwing me. as he's a silver, they may be tarnishing. tarnishing is when the inhibitor gene that inhibits the production of red pigment in agouti cats doesn't fully cover the furs, leading to some degree of yellowing/reddish/brownish in a silver cat. it's not something i'm super familiar with, but generally i believe it tends to be all over and not concentrated to certain spots. still, those spots are pretty close in color to a non-silver black tabby. my other theory is that this could be a somatic mutation where those spots didn't present the inhibitor gene. honestly i feel the second one is more likely, although this is getting into a lot of genetic stuff i'm not 100% on >_>
other two are a black tabby (maybe silver) with high white spotting and a red mackerel tabby with high white spotting !

sending you tabby #164838, but can you please id this baby? we got her a week ago and her pattern is really interesting and different from tabbies i've owned before
Tumblr media Tumblr media
showed this cat to a friend and she said "He's so silly hes think he is Dino :3" so everyone say 'thank you sydney' for her service in providing things for me to put into this post to make it look longer so people actually pause to linger on it and therefor instinctually believe that the post is somehow funnier for it's assumed self awareness, when it actually is attempting to be unfunny and their attempt at introspectiveness, and therefor like or reblog the post. everyone say 'thank you sydney'
on a first glance, black tabby, but then i used my eyes to actually look at the cat, and that's a black silver tabby! specific patterns i'm going between, because it could be broken mackerel OR broken braided. going w/ broken mackerel bc thats a kitten and it takes a bit to be sure.

loving ur blog so much !! I work in cat rescue and im absolutely obsessed w their weird genetics they're such fun critters. here r some of my favorites from work :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Such darlings!! and ty!!!
The first one seems to be a black classic tabby!
The second one seems to be a black smoke!
The third one stumped me for a while, because it could be a plethora of genes causing that coloration, so there are a few possible options. The first one I thought of was a Ccb pointed silver cat, which would give it the eye colors and tinted brown around the back of the head and legs, but I'm unsure. I'm going to leave this cat as unidentified for me to check back on within a month, and see if my answer had changed.
The fourth cat seems to be a black silver broken mackerel tabby!

Hello Greer!
I’m a long-time foster who recently came into possession of half a litter of nine kittens— at eight weeks old they’re EXTREMELY neonatal (the biggest ones are around 20 ounces) and I suspect there are multiple fathers given the wide array of colors. I was wondering if you could guess what their dads looked like! You don’t have to, of course, it’s just idle curiosity on my part.
Tumblr media
(Kittens from three weeks ago, with their mother.)
Tumblr media
(Kittens from yesterday when we took our half of the litter).
There are two Siamese (one seal point, one tabby point), one black, one spotted tabby, one mackerel tabby, a third grey tabby whose markings I don’t know, and three solid greys.
We think there was at least two fathers, one to explain the coloration of the black kitten and one to explain the Siamese. Is it possible there was only one? Or even three?
Tumblr media
(As a tax, here’s the smallest and most Belephegor-like kitten. At eight weeks old, I swear she felt like less than a pound! All the smallest ones are staying with their mom and the old foster.)
hmm.....there might just be the one father?
let's start with the mother: she's shorthaired, dilute black, agouti but carries the recessive for solid-coloured (since she has solid kittens), mackerel tabby but carries the recessive for classic tabby, non-pointed but carries point.
now if there's just the one father, he could be shorthaired, black but carries dilute, agouti but carries solid (OR just pure solid), ticked tabby but carries the recessive for classic tabby, non-pointed but carries pointing. in other words, a guy that looks like this:
Tumblr media
or this:
Tumblr media
HOWEVER there might also be the silver/inhibitor gene at play, given the unusual look of this kitten in the back.
Tumblr media
though that could also be a fever-coat, which would mean the kitten will eventually grow out of it and look solid-coloured.
if the kitten does have a silver undercoat and ghost striping that doesn't fade with age, then it's a smoke (which is what silver is called in sold-coloured cats), which would mean the father is a silver ticked tabby:
Tumblr media
or a black smoke, with a ticked ghost pattern:
Tumblr media
the litter could all be explained by one father, but that doesn't mean there aren't multiple. in any case, they're a batch of very cute and colourful kittens!

Some lady in the block decided to plant lilies in her front garden. We have community cats— a bunch of strays that jump from one home to the next.
One by one, they began dropping like flies. We lost Toby, Morticia, Little Grey, Big Grey, Black Panther, Yogurt, and Scream. My friend also lost his indoor cat, Oreo.
For those unaware, the entire lily is toxic. It can lead to kidney failure if consumed. My friend watched as his cat went from being okay to crying in pain the last few hours of his life— and there was nowhere to go, we do not have emergency vets in my town, no 24/7 clinics. The closest one was 3 hours away and Oreo did not last 3 hours.
I will say that Oreo did not die fast, it was slow and painful. He began growing lethargic, did not want to eat, would throw up his water— began having bloody diarrhea, and eventually he died. This was over a span of days.
They should really put warnings on plants that are toxic/deadly to animals like it’s pretty insidious that there are plants that could potentially kill your dog being marketed as convenient low effort plants for beginners that have no knowledge I don’t think it would even occur to the average traitor joes shopper that they’d need to even look it up for safety reasons
