The first 5 minutes of episode one has taught me a lot:
Asta is such a fucking loser
They’re really rubbing it in our faces that everyone loves Yuno and hates him
Oh wow they both fucking suck

What if the Vinsmokes were in the Wano Arc?
Go read Part 1 here but TL;DR the Vinsmokes regain their ability to feel emotions and escape Germa with Sanji and the Strawhats.
Mostly headcanons with a side of canon plot.
They’re still modded physically, but now their pain receptors are active so they’re dealing with the ramifications of years of neglecting their body. Ichiji is partially blind from using Valkyrie, Niji has burn marks all over his body, and Yonji has chronic pain in his wrists. It's a struggle, but they feel like they deserve it after all the torment they inflicted.
Ichiji comes across traditional tattoo shops in Wano and decides to get new tattoos on a whim. The ‘1’ tattoo he had before had been his first rebellion against his father and now that he’s free he wants to add more to it. He gets tattoos for all his siblings along his other arm—a pink butterfly for Reiju, a blue lightning bolt for Niji, a green clover for Yonji and a yellow sun for Sanji. It helps to ground him when the Feelings™ get overwhelming and reminds him that he’s not alone in this world.
The drama in Shokugeki no Sanji with Sanji’s soba stall still happens, only this time he’s backed up by the rest of his siblings who glares at the soba competitors in submission.
Reiju is first in line when the soba stall officially opens. She’d had to fight her brothers and the Strawhats for it. Robin is a close second but only because Reiju was distracted by her. If you know what I mean ;)
The handcuffs left marks on Sanji’s wrists. Surprisingly, it’s Niji who asks why Sanji’s hands are so precious to him and Sanji tells them about Baratie and Zeff. There’s something about the sparkle in Sanji’s eyes as he talks that draws them in, the way he speaks so highly and softly about his found family on the East Blue. They wonder, if somewhere down the line, Sanji would speak about them with that same fond tone.
Niji gifts Sanji a pair of dark brown leather gloves, long enough to cover the marks on his wrist. Sanji wears it to the raid and Niji is quite proud of it and claims he must be Sanji's favorite brother now. Until Ichiji chimes in and says that Sanji’s hairstyle as Stealth Black/Soba Mask is more similar to his and confidently declares himself as Sanji’s favorite brother. Ichiji and Niji argue for hours.
(It’s actually Yonji who's the favorite. Sanji only has one little brother and he’s got a soft spot for him.)
Just imagine Law, Basil Hawkins and X Drake watching Soba Mask. Now imagine them seeing a group of brightly-colored siblings cheering on Soba Mask, while they themselves look like Sparking Red, Electric Blue, Wench Green and Poison Pink. It’s a good day to be a North Blue fanboy in Wano.
AND NOW FOR SOME ANGST!
They witness Sanji awakening his modifications and for a brief moment they’re happy that Sanji caught up to them like he always wanted, until they see the horrified look on Sanji’s face. He looks so afraid to turn out like them, to the point that he’d ask his own crewmate (Zoro) to take him down if he ever ended up like them. They’re not even mad. They’re just sad and guilty that Sanji felt that way.
There’s a brief lull in the battle and Reiju pulls her brothers aside to tell them about their mother and her sacrifice. She told Sanji that story so he’d remember that his life was worth living and being kind. Now she’s telling the same story to Ichiji, Niji and Yonji so they can remember the same thing. Sora wanted them to live and be good.
After his fight with Queen, the brothers hug it out. Reiju may or may not have taken a picture.
Right after that, the brothers now hug Reiju! Because she deserves it alright! Years of pretending for Judge, of keeping her brother's in check and dealing with their mother's death, Reiju did her best to be there for all of them. Now she gets to see her little brothers grow up into the good people their mother wanted them to be and she can finally stop pretending. She can be herself again <3
(I love Reiju sm yall but that's just the eldest daughter syndrome talking)
The road to redemption is paved with triumphs and stumbles. It’s just fortunate for them that Sanji has a good sense of direction.
AND NOW BACK TO FLUFF!
Yonji continues to cement himself as the favorite when he calls Chuji the cutest thing in the world and proceeds to share his snacks with the little guy. Niji and Ichiji never stood a chance. Little brother is strong and is hitting all of Sanji's buttons.
The worst part of regaining emotions though? It’s not the gooey mushy feelings of love, or the cold guilt and shame over their past mistakes, it’s the annoyance they now feel whenever they witness Roronoa Zoro flirt with their oblivious brother. They can’t stand him. Unfortunately, he makes Sanji happy so they’re forced to seethe on the sidelines while Zoro picks another fight/flirting session with Sanji.
Reiju doesn’t tell them that it’s not just Zoro they have to worry about. Trafalgar Law keeps finding an excuse to check Sanji over for his “health”, a jaguar mink keeps asking him out to smoke together, don’t even get her started on Basil Hawkins and X Drake asking her for her blessing. That’s not even counting Sanji’s other suitors who aren’t in Wano right now. Their baby brother is quite the popular guy.

♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣
“It is kinda risky to do this here, Mylady.”
Charlotte didn’t recognize that cold, almost calculating and submissive voice. It probably belonged to the servant she didn’t know.
“What I do and what I pay you for is very risky, so don’t judge too quickly, Robin, and don’t give me that attitude. Don’t forget where you would be without me, you would be in prison for that amateur fraud.”
That arrogant voice could only belong to her dear aunt Rosamund. Although, Charlotte never heard her sound like this before. So determined, as if she was a leader.
“I know what I owe you, Mylady,” Robin replied, still sounding cold and submissive.
“We won’t have such an occasion like this ball again, even though it’s risky. And besides, we don’t have much time anymore, the shipping will tomorrow now, as the date changed all of a sudden. The sooner all this crap leaves the Clover Kingdom, the better. Now follow me, you still need to help Stein, Alban and Daisy with the rest.”
Rosamund and the lad called Robin left the room and Charlotte immediately behind a statue, so that they wouldn’t see her, pulling her wide dress close to her legs. Who knows what her aunt might say if she discovered her niece, who was also a Magic Knight Captain, more or less spying on her?
Thankfully, Rosamund and Robin went in the opposite direction, not looking at all towards the statue Charlotte was hiding behind. Still, she waited a bit that they disappeared completely form the hallway before she moved.
Rosamund didn’t locked the room she just came out. Charlotte didn’t know if her aunt was just stupid or terribly overconfident.
Maybe both.
There was nothing in this hallway, only doors, statues, paintings on the walls on one said and windows on the other, letting in the first moonlight. She was alone. Time to risk and go into the room.
“Captain Charlotte?”
Charlotte immediately jumped, getting in an attack position. But she relaxed when she saw that it was only Vanessa, who put her hands up with smile.
“Whoa, sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you!”
“I apologize, Vanessa, I’m just a bit too much on the edge right now.”
“Captain Rill told Nozel and me what he knows. So, is your aunt involved with the thievery in the Common Realm?”
“I still hope not, even though I don’t like her, but… I just have a gut feeling.”
“It’s always good to follow your gut feelings. Why do you think I started to reach to Nozel after the whole raid in Spade?”
“Speaking of, where is he?”
“He went to search captain Yami, so that they can both have our backs once they join us. And captain Rill continues what you ask him to do, search the Wizard King and warn the other captains if he sees them. As for me, I’m here to help you.”
Charlotte smiled. Help was certainly welcome and she liked Vanessa more than enough to trust her. So, she quickly told her what she overheard. Which wasn’t much, but after working so long as a Magic Knight, Charlotte knew that every little detail that seemed insignificant can have its importance.
Vanessa only nodded during the explanation, a thoughtful expression on her face.
“It really does sounds suspicious. I can’t think of another possibility, honestly. But why would one of your aunts and member of your house be involved into those thievery in the Common Realm?”
“I have no idea and honestly, I still hope that my suspicions are wrong. I don’t like Rosamund, but she is still my aunt and it would be such a shame still if she is somehow behind all this. For house Roselei of course, but also for nobility. No matter what most nobles believe, they aren’t exempted from justice just because of their rank. If the judge isn’t corrupt or if the crime is enormous or if there are enough witness, they can still go to prison. The Wizard King worked a lot that Justice should be the same for everyone and even though he doesn’t seem like it, Damnatio Kira agreed with him.”
“Really? I can’t believe he would accept that, given what happened to Asta. But at the same time, there was the case with the Devil Believers…”
“Yes, Damnatio has often very questionable methods and I don’t agree myself with his way of thinking. But he sincerely cares for the Clover Kingdom, no one can take this away from him. And nobles already tried to bargain him, but Damnatio always refused.”
“Really? Well, I give him that, then, even though I don’t like him. So, how about we stop chattering and see what your auntie has hidden in this room?”
Charlotte nodded. She was curious, but also a bit anxious. If her suspicions would be true, what would she do?
At least, she wasn’t alone right now. And it helped to know that Yami would soon be there as well. Having him at her side for something like a mission, counting on him for something rather delicate… It felt Charlottes heart with pride and love.
The two Magic Knights slowly opened the door, who seemed to have been oiled recently. Interesting.
The room was some kind of little salon or boudoir, with sophisticated furniture, normal for a royal room.
It would have been nothing special if it weren’t for the strange baskets that were placed around the room. There were all sizes and forms, each one of them covered with some dark velvet sheet, hiding what was inside the baskets.
Charlotte quickly kneeled down to one basket on the floor, removing softly the velvet. Inside were some little wooden sculptures, of regular animals or mystical creatures. Charlotte couldn’t help but frown as she covered the basket again.
Weren’t wooden sculptures on Marx’ list about all the things that had been stolen in the Common Realm?
“There are some stone sculptures in this one. And that basket is filled with things made of iron and steels. This is a lot of craftwork in those baskets. But also common things like common clothes or daily accessories. What does your aunt want with all of this? Nothing looks like luxurious enough for a noble.”
“Because all of those things have been stolen in the Common Realm during those last few months. Marx has made a list and I took a look at it from time to time. My aunt has actually something to do with all those thievery acts.”
The conclusion felt like a hit for Charlotte. It was really uncomfortable feeling that someone of your own family was behind a crime and even more so, a crime you have been yourself investigating for quite a while.
But the worst part for Charlotte was… that she wasn’t even surprised that aunt Rosamund was behind something like that. She wasn’t even totally disgusted by this revelation, she was just… done. Not surprised at all. No shock, just almost plain indifference, a little bit of disgust, a bit of frustration.
Charlotte didn’t know if this made her a terrible person towards her own aunt or if she just knew Rosamunds nature well enough and that she was instead a bit upset that she hadn’t figured it out before.
Vanessa actually came over to her, putting a comforting hand on her shoulder. “I’m sorry for you. It must be hard to know that your own aunt is behind a criminal organization.”
“Thank you, Vanessa. But to be perfectly honest with you, I was never that close with aunt Rosamund and I never liked her, even when I was a little child. The worst is not that she is part of my house, but more that I’m not even surprised about… all of this.”
“Ouch, this is hard.”
“You can say that.”
“But, why would she do something like this, then?”
“I have no idea, honestly. I know her personality, but this doesn’t mean that I know a lot about my dear aunt Rosamund. It would really important to find out her reasons to do something like that and there are so many questions still we don’t know the answers. But I doubt we might find most answers here.”
Charlotte also started to wonder if Rosamunds stubborn attempts to marry her of with Reginald Évantail has also something to do with those thievery acts or if it was something else entirely.
There were many possibilities to everything and Charlotte hated to ignore which door was the right one.
How she wished that Yami was here, to hold her, to give her strength.
Vanessa looked thoughtful for a second, before she said, “You did tell me that your unkind auntie mentioned something about shipping. Could it be that all those goods were not only stolen, but were planned to be brought to another country? How is it called? Crap, Nozel explained it to me once! When you can’t sell goods in another country due to complicated reasons, that you need to do it on criminal ways… This has a special word! What was it again?”
“You mean, smuggling?”
“Yes! That was the word Nozel tried to explain to me!”
“It is a possibility, I admit. But when it’s about smuggling, there would be more luxurious items, more things from the Noble Realm. All those things are common, not luxurious at all, everything was stolen in the Common Realm. So, why smuggle them?”
“Maybe it’s going to be smuggled in a faraway country were items that are common for us are actually expensive?”
“It’s possible, of course. But I doubt it. Something feels of and I can’t say what it is. This is so frustrating.”
“I know, not knowing can be a curse when you at least know that there is more. What should we do? If we go to search for more people, we might lose some precious time while your aunt and her accomplices might come back and take everything away. Should someone stay here? Or do you have maybe a communication device on you?”
Charlotte didn’t had time to answer, because now voices were coming nearer and nearer.
And one of those voices belonged to her dear aunt Rosamund.
This was bad. As near as they were, Rosamund and her helpers would certainly see the two of them leaving this room.
Charlotte looked more or less panicking at Vanessa, who thankfully understood the problem immediately. She took Charlottes wrist and pulled her behind a curtain. Right one second before Rosamund and her accomplices entered the room.
Taking a discreet peek from behind the curtain, Charlotte recognized Robin immediately. The other three – Stein, Alban and Daisy, if she remembered correctly – were a very huge man, buffer than Yami, who looked really, really dumb, a little boy, very pale, with white hair, and woman who seemed to be young and old at the same time, with too much and cheap make-up.
“There is still a lot of crap to transport,” the woman said, certainly Daisy. Her voice sounded young, but the bored tone made her sound old and mature for some reason.
“Don’t complain, Daisy, it is an important task. And don’t forget where you were before I engaged you.”
“How can I forget, you love to remember me every two or three hours, lady Rosamund,” Daisy replied, still bored, but just like Robin, it now also sounded submissive. At least those two seemed to have some respect for her aunt and Charlotte was almost certain that it was genuine. But did they like Rosamund as well?
“Isn’t the shipping for tomorrow?” the little boy asked. Charlotte immediately felt compassion towards him. What could have lead a little boy like him to participate with a criminal organization?
“The ship will leave for Hino tomorrow night, but it is still better to make it tonight. Everyone is busy with the ball and to finally engage people to the best party, like it always should be. If we’re lucky, there will be a lot of betrothals celebrating tomorrow, so no one will take notice of the ship leaving for the land of the sun.”
Charlotte flinched and felt Vanessa doing the same right next to her.
Hino.
The land of the sun.
Both names that were given to Yamis homeland.
Yami didn’t talk much about his homeland, not to mention about his past before he was stranded to the shores of Clover. Charlotte suspected that something terrible must have happened back there, because her boyfriend also always had a sad, nostalgic glance in his eyes when someone mentioned the land of the sun.
Yami did promised her that he will tell her about his past and about his homeland one day, once he’s ready. And Charlotte was ready to wait decades for him to be ready to talk about that.
But also, Yami never mentioned that he wanted to go back. Charlotte even ignored that there was a way to reach the land of the sun, no one ever talked about that and so, she assumed that it was just impossible for now.
So, how the heck did someone like Rosamund Roselei found a way to that faraway land? Why was she even interested in a foreign country, she who always seemed to hate anything that wasn’t from Clover or at least from the Heart Kingdom?
It was really frustrating that the more little details she learned, the more it left her confused.
“Alright, let’s not waste too much time,” Rosamund commanded, clapping her hands two times. “We still need to bring all those baskets to the ship and I would like to write my letter to our customer back there sometime before tomorrow noon, if possible.”
“Mylady?”
“What is it, Robin?”
“Lord Reginald Évantail is coming this way and he looks kinda upset for some reason.”
Rosamund groaned in frustration, which honestly surprised Charlotte. Wasn’t her aunt at least on good terms with Reginald Évantail? Why this reaction?
She didn’t need to wait long for an answer, as the number one of the suitors she refused to marry came into the room, looking upset and nervous.
Charlotte couldn’t help but make a face when she saw that suitor again, looking so gaudy in his purple and golden suit, his hair ridiculously styled with gel, leaving his forehead looking bigger than it was and of course, he hid his grey hair with hair colouring again. And this was the man her aunt Rosamund wanted to marry her of to?
Vanessa looked like she was about to burst into laughter. Charlotte didn’t know if it was because of lord Reginalds gaudy outfit and hairstyle, or because of the face she made when she saw him.
But now wasn’t the moment to get caught. So, Charlotte put a hand on Vanessas mouth and looked sternly at her, her eyebrows raised very high. This seemed to make her companion wanting to laugh even more. But thankfully, Vanessa was now holding back better.
“Dear Rosamund, this can’t continue like this,” Reginald started to talk and now Charlotte was holding herself back to burst into laughter. How ridiculous was his voice, sounding like a spoiled five year old brad with the voice of an old man?
“Reginald, can’t you see that I’m in the middle of important business?” Rosamund replied, annoyed. Well, if this wasn’t the proof that lord Reginald Évantail was at least aware of the truth behind the thievery within the Common Realm.
“But I’m still not engaged to Charlotte, like you promised!”
Vanessa let out a silent gasp and Charlotte immediately put a hand on her mouth. She would explain this to her friend later, but right now wasn’t the place for having such a discussion.
Reginald didn’t even let Rosamund answer, as he continued, “Don’t forget this, you let me marry your niece and she becomes my sixth wife. In addition, I won’t tell anyone about your little organisation-“
“Little? Just because it’s only Robin, Daisy, Stein, Alban and me, plus our contact in the land of the sun, doesn’t mean that MY organisation is a little one!”
And she was even proud about that? Okay, this was truly disgusting.
“Listen, Reginald. The Three Leaves Waltz already happened, didn’t you just grab Charlotte for it? You would have been betrothed already, without all this draining discussions and hearings that would usually happen.”
Charlotte felt sick and was grateful that Vanessa grabbed her hand in comfort immediately. So, this ball and especially this waltz were really meant to engage people against their will, despite this tradition being officially removed. And for some reason, Charlotte also had the feeling that it was very tightly bonded to this thievery organisation.
“I couldn’t! You haven’t been there for the waltz, Rosamund, so you haven’t seen how lord Nozel Silva has chosen to dance with the Black Bull witch of all people. He destroyed the meaning of the Three Leaves Waltz by dancing with someone out of his circle, because why would he even choose a WITCH to be his future wife?”
Now, it was Charlottes turn to grab Vanessas hand in comfort.
“Lord Nozel and a witch? What an idiot. Does he think that he’s in a novel or something?” Daisy commented annoyed while controlling a basket full of cheap fantasy necklaces made of steel, wood or stone. Charlotte frowned. This woman certainly wasn’t a noble and for some reason, she was still for the status quo.
Rosamund looked rather pissed. “I knew that lord Nozel was the worst royal Head of House, even his naïve late mother wasn’t that stupid.” Now, Charlotte had to hold Vanessa back, just in case. “Such a useful way to organize arranged marriage without the usual, long paperwork and he destroyed it on one ball. But you don’t need to panic, Reginald. You’re still going to marry Charlotte. You know that I have very good reasons to have my stupid niece out of house Roselei once and for all.”
Another reason to hold Vanessa back. Charlotte wondered why her aunt wanted her so badly out of house Roselei. But at least, she knew now how Rosamund really thought about her. Which was actually relieving, in a way.
“But I’m still not betrothed to Charlotte,” Reginald said again, clearly upset. “I told you already, I’m going to tell the authorities about your organization of thieves if I’m not going to marry Charlotte!”
Wait, was this blackmail? Rosamund was being so stubborn to marry Charlotte of to Reginald Évantail just because that jerk was blackmailing her about her criminal organization?
Charlotte felt sick for a moment.
But Rosamund didn’t look scared or that she was feeling threatened. “And do you think that the authorities would give you a pass? You haven’t told anyone about my dear organisation for a rather long time and you can’t even bring the argument that I have threatened you.”
As much as Charlotte disliked her aunt, she had to give her a point for this. Under some circumstances, keeping silent about a crime can be considered a delict. And in her books, Reginald Évantail fell under those circumstances right now.
“You’re also jealous that I, a woman, managed to organize something like this, while you couldn’t. But again, I have good reasons to have Charlotte out of house Roselei and in yours, she would be just another Évantail. And by marrying her of, there are good chances that she will stop being a Magic Knight captain anymore. It gives her too much freedom and her so-called curse didn’t help to put her in her place.”
Okay, this was enough. Charlotte had no patience anymore to listen to all those stupid things. She was strong, but her endurance to stupidity still wasn’t limitless.
So, she came out from behind the curtain, Vanessa right at her side.
The other people present in this salon were all surprised, plus showing other emotions. Rosamund was clearly upset as well, Reginald couldn’t hide his panic, Daisy was annoyed, Robin had a cold glance and the buff giant looked like he wanted to break bones. The only one who didn’t looked unkind was the little boy.
“L-lady Charlotte… I-I didn’t expect t-to see you here.”
“Obviously so, lord Reginald. You wouldn’t be stuttering, otherwise.”
She knew her voice was cold. But Charlotte also knew that Reginald Évantail didn’t deserve any kindness. She wouldn’t have the strength to be kind to someone like him, anyway.
“Charlotte, dear niece,” Rosamund started with fake kindness full of venom. “I didn’t expect to see you here. Why are you in the company of a witch?”
“Aunt Rosamund, her name is Vanessa. Vanessa Enoteca. You better don’t forget that name, because I have the feeling that you’re going to hear it more in the future. And drop your act, please. You know that we overheard everything you said.”
“Nice collection of items,” Vanessa said cheerfully, as if this was a circle of close friends. Maybe she would be able to handle nobility rather well, with this kind of attitude. “Not expensive even. It’s nice to see that some nobles are also interested into less luxurious things, you’re opening more doors to get items.”
“That’s why I hate witches, they’re always so cheeky,” Robin said coldly.
“You clearly haven’t met the Witch Queen then, sugar. In fact, you react so much like her that I wonder if you’re not related to Her Majesty in some ways.”
“You are really bold, for a witch. I don’t what lord Nozel might see in you, except maybe being good in bed,” Rosamund said and Charlotte was ready to slap her for this words, but Vanessa was faster.
“You clearly don’t know Nozel at all, lady… Rosamund, was it? Maybe you should change your prejudices on royalty, it might help you open your eyes.”
“How dare you, witch? I am lady Rosamund Roselei, member of a noble, ancient-“
“Dear aunt, don’t go through all your titles. It won’t help you to get away with this,” Charlotte replied, in such a cold tone, that everyone in the room except Vanessa actually flinched at her words.
“How dare you talk to me like this, Charlotte? I’m your aunt and a member of your house, of your family! Besides, I’m older than you, your senior, you have to treat me with respect, young lady.”
“If you don’t respect others, you shouldn’t expect to be respected still. I heard you how you talked about me not even a minute ago. I’m your niece and a member of your house, your family and you still talked badly about me. Even stated that you wanted me out of house Roselei.”
“I had no idea you were here!”
“Which actually makes it worse.”
“Who cares about that? You and your witch friend, who dared to believe lord Nozel loves her, were spying on us, on something that doesn’t concerns you at all.”
“Oh, it concerns both of us, we are Magic Knights, after all. And unless I’m wrong, thievery is a crime, which is something Magic Knights are fighting against. Besides, it also concerns me. You were willing to marry me against my will in order to keep your criminal organization a secret. Worse, you wanted to marry me to an arrogant old man, from a house with a rather complicated family tree, who has history with marrying again and again and again, to whom I’m just a prize. I refuse to marry lord Reginald Évantail and no one can force me to do so!”
“Old, me?” Reginald whined, clearly offended. But no one paid him any attention. Rosamund lost all cool and put out her grimoire, ready to attack. Charlotte and Vanessa did the same with theirs, while the helpers stood ready but probably awaiting for Rosamunds orders. Reginald just stood there, pouting like a five year old.
Charlotte knew that Rosamund had like many nobles, a lot of mana. But even though her thorn magic could hurt a lot, Rosamund still never trained, so she could only throw spells. It would be easy for Charlotte and Vanessa to overwhelm her, if necessary.
Reginald wouldn’t be a problem. Same for the poor little boy, who actually just hid behind the baskets instead of taking an attack position. But the other three… Charlotte didn’t know how to determine Robin and Daisy. As for the buff giant, well, he didn’t looked like he needed magic to knock anyone out.
But before anyone could move or say something, the door of the little salon was opened again very loudly.
“What the fuck?”
Even though she didn’t move still, a wave of relief washed over Charlotte as she recognized this unique voice she loved so much.
Yami was here.
♣♣♣
Vanessa felt so terribly relieved as she heard her captains voice and when Yami entered the room, looking pissed and confused, and frankly, in a mood that it would be a true death wish to provoke him right now.
She was even more relieved when she saw Nozel coming in right after Yami.
“Lady Rosamund. Lord Reginald. Miss, sirs.”
His voice was terribly cold as he greeted Reginald and Rosamund, plus the helpers. The two nobles immediately flinched, which was funny to witness.
“Good evening Charlotte, sorry it took us a while,” Nozel now said to his colleague, his voice warmer.
Then his eyes meet hers and Vanessa felt her knees becoming like butter. He always looked at her so lovingly, so deeply.
Nozel immediately walked towards her, cupped her face with both hands and put a soft but deep kiss on her lips.
Okay, now Vanessa was certain that she would melt right here, right now.
She heard vaguely some people gasp in shock, Yami groaning something that sounded like “gross” then yelling “ouch!” while Charlotte was all “aw”. But her entire focus was on Nozel, on his lips, on his presence, on his heart beating in sync with hers.
Sadly it didn’t last long, but to be fair, they weren’t alone. Still, Nozel kept an arm around her waist, while glancing back at Rosamund, Reginald and the helpers, coldly and judging, looking more like a king than the current one.
Was he, maybe, about to scold them while holding her close to him? Gosh, this was so hot in a way! Vanessa felt her mouth going dry and her face getting hot. This really made her thirsty for him and Nozel was just looking down on jerks while holding her! Damn, would she still be able to focus on the affair at hand from now on?
Why was Nozel so hot with such a cold glance?
“Lady Rosamund, lord Reginald… I’ve already known that your moral compass wasn’t working so well. But it seems that I still gave you too much credit. Never would I have thought that you would go so far to become thieves of items that you would normally consider unworthy of your noble status.”
“I’m innocent, I have nothing to do with this!” Reginald protested in panic, sounding like a child trying to get out of trouble. Vanessa couldn’t help but snicker discreetly. This weak lord wouldn’t have survived even one week of married life with captain Charlotte.
“Shut up, you perfumed gaudy freak,” captain Yami groaned, while immediately joining Charlottes side.
“How… what… dare… Excuse me, you scoundrel of a low peasant foreigner, how dare you insult me. I am lord Reginald Évantail, member of the noble house of-“
“Don’t you dare insult captain Yami Sukehiro ever again, especially in my presence,” Charlotte whispered dangerously, her eyes getting darker with each word.
“Shut up, lord Who’s It of house Who Cares! You may not like captain Yami, but this is not a reason to be this insulting and disrespectful!” Vanessa snapped as well, angry like always when someone she cared about was getting disrespected. If that stupid noble would also start to insult Nozel, she would strangle him with her threads and those from his gaudy clothes immediately. “Unlike you, he doesn’t get offended at insults, he stands far higher than that. How ironic, aren’t you the one that is from a higher class?”
“Not to mention that being a foreigner is the only thing that can be maybe hold against the captain of the Black Bulls and even that term isn’t even that much of an insult in the first place,” Nozel added, cold voice like before, but still holding Vanessa to him. “Aside from that, he has achieved and done more for this kingdom than you ever did for even half of your children, lord Reginald. And Yami is a Magic Knight captain, you’re just a member of a noble house with no leader position. From nobility’s flawed logic, the foreigner captains is standing above you. Thank goodness.”
Oh, Vanessa would have kissed Nozel for those words. She knew that despite his genuine respect for Yami, her boyfriend was often irritated with her captain, for many reasons. To hear him take his defence like this, in front of others, it meant so much to her.
Yami looked stunned and rather irritated as he heard Nozel defend him. Charlotte just smiled.
“But… but… He insulted me too!”
“Yeah, Reggie, because you’re a fucking dumbass liar.”
“Liar? LIAR? How dare you, foreigner, I am NOT a liar, I’m the most innocent one in this room!”
Charlotte took a loud step forward, which made Reginald Évantail shut up immediately. Now, that was some authority, Vanessa hoped that Charlotte could teach her this one day. She would definitely need this kind of strategy once she enters the world of royalty and nobility for good.
“Innocent? I don’t think so, lord Reginald. Oh, you’re certainly not part of my dear aunts thievery organisation, you probably lack the intelligence for that.”
“What? How-“
“I wasn’t finished! You aren’t a member of this organization, that is for sure, but you were still aware of its existence and this for probably a long time now. But instead of warning us Magic Knights and the Wizard King, you kept it for yourself and even thought you could gain something out of it… Like my hand in marriage, by more or less blackmailing my aunt. This points alone can make you guilty. And despite the reach house Évantail, you can escape justice and what is right. Shall I also remember you that Damnatio Kira can’t be bribed or bargained? You can promise him the moon and thousands of stars in the sky, but he still will judge you. In fact, he considers bribery as a crime as well. Just to remind you.”
Whoa, that speech was so impressive. Vanessa looked at Charlotte with admiration. No wonder she became a captain with that kind of mindset and attitude. Auntie Dea raised her well.
But the captain of the Blue Roses wasn’t finished, as she turned towards her fuming aunt, her eyes darker than ever. “And this is the man you absolutely wanted to engage me to, dear aunt Rosamund? I know that behind policy and family duty, we were never close. In fact I despise you, especially after what you did. You brought shame upon the Roseleis with your crime organization and you can’t excuse yourself for that. Your position as a noble lady isn’t a pass for crimes and thievery.”
Rosamund Roselei looked like she was about to explode. She could be considered as a beauty despite not being that young anymore, but her current stated negated any of her beauty, each traits of it, into oblivion. Some strands of blonde hair escaped from her complicated hairdo, her green eyes looked like they were about to pop out of their holes and Vanessa wouldn’t be surprised if she would tear her poison green dress with the red roses from her body if she would lose it completely.
Really hard to believe that this harpy here was related to captain Charlotte and that she was of the same family of auntie Dea.
“How dare you talk to me like that, Charlotte? Do you really think that being the most eligible member of house Roselei gives you the freedom to be this cocky?”
“I’ve never chose to be the most eligible member of our family, Rosamund. In fact, this was more a pain than anything. In your eyes and in many others, my accomplishments as Magic Knight, as a captain, as myself, is negated and I become just a very beautiful and eligible noble lady. Who just needs to smile and to wave and to be betrothed and to even fake gratitude when a spouse is chosen for me.”
“You ungrateful young lady! I knew that being a Magic Knight will make you too cocky, too impertinent and disrespectful. Orchidea was too soft while raising you.”
“Don’t insult lady Orchidea, you bitch,” Vanessa yelled and if Nozel wouldn’t still have hold her, she would have scratch Rosamunds venom green eyes all by herself. No one should disrespect auntie Dea like this. “She is more a noble lady than you will ever be.”
“How DARE you speak to me like that you-“
“How about I call my buddy Jack from the Green Praying Mantises and we cut you in pieces before you insult one of my brats, auntie Rosabitch? And before you actually say more bullshit about Charlotte and Blue Rose Mama, for that matter, this pisses me of even more.”
“And why should it concern you how I treat my niece, you foreigner captain?”
“Yer not good at insulting people, are ya, auntie Rosabitch? But to answer your damned question, it does concern me, I’m Charlottes fucking boyfriend!”
Silence was placed in the room, as everyone except for Nozel and Vanessa tried to understand this declaration. Yami was still fuming and looking at Rosamund like he wanted to kill her with a dimension slash through his eyes, while Charlotte had a proud smile on her face.
“That’s a lie,” Reginald finally said in a whine, which really sounded like a child. “Lady Charlotte can’t be with this… this… this man!”
“I don’t know how this should concern you in any way, lord Reginald,” Charlotte replied coldly, but still smiling with immense pride. “We’re not betrothed, as far as I’m concerned and besides, I’m not a minor anymore. It is up to me to choose who I spent my life with and it’s definitely not with you.”
“I can’t… We can’t tolerate that! Rosamund, tell your lackeys to attack the foreigner and the witch!”
The one called Robin replied immediately for his boss. “That would be a bad idea, Milord. My colleagues and I are from the Common Realm or from the Forsaken Realm, with not much magic power. And those people are Magic Knights, three of them squad captains. Sorry, but there are more agreeable ways to kill myself.”
“Not to mention that finding helpers of their quality is nearly impossible, these days, where do you think I can find more lackeys like Robin, Daisy and Stein? Alban was just a bonus, since he’s a child.”
Vanessa hold back another insult. How dare she talked like that about this poor little boy? But Nozel still had something to say. “Can I ask you why you became a criminal mastermind, lady Rosamund?”
“Why does everyone make it sound as it’s a bad thing? My life was boring and since someone told me that I need to find myself something exciting, I-“
She couldn’t continue as the door of the salon opened again. Vanessa hoped that maybe their cavalry arrived. But when she saw who entered the room, a chill came over her body.
“What I nice reunion do we have here,” Lac Silva said casually, as if it was about the weather. But there was an arrogant assurance in his eyes, eyeing everyone as if they were chess pieces on his game board. There was even a hint of anger in his magenta eyes as he looked at Nozel.
Vanessa instinctively hold Nozel closer. He immediately did the same. They wouldn’t let this man go between them, no matter how difficult it might be. Vanessa refused to let Lac hurt Nozel ever again, as he had done enough damage to his own son already.
He was her strength and she hoped she was his as well.
Rosamund, Reginald and even the lackeys looked quite unsure all of a sudden, glancing with cautious at Lac Silva. But Yami and Charlotte glared at this man is if he killed someone dear to them for some reason.
Clearly enjoying the effect he had on others, Lac Silva looked around with a satisfied smile. Vanessa never looked away, refusing to yield to him. After a few seconds that felt like centuries, Lac Silva opened his mouth…
But just before he could spite some of his arrogant venom, the door of the salon opened again, breaking the effect Lac Silva had.
Vanessa hoped that it was their cavalry this time. But the person entering this scene of crime was surprising for everyone, even for Lac Silva, as if he just witnessed a game move he had never seen before within his game.

BLACK CLOVER SPOILERS
Been a while since I've fully written out my thoughts on the recent BC chapters. (I think May was the last time I did?) Anywho, these are my opinions—and I stress, MY OPINIONS!—on the recent chapters. I have to admit that my feelings about them are mixed, and I'll get into why. (Probably gonna get cancelled over this but yolo I guess loool)
First, I'd like to address the difference between Tumblr & Twitter discourse regarding Black Clover. From my personal experience, I find that Twitter discourse is more focused on the fights & power-ranking system—which, of course, is absolutely essential to the genre. Power-ups are a tangible way of measuring character growth, after all.
On the other hand, Tumblr discourse is more focused on the relationships between the characters & the overarching narrative of the work. Now, I'm not saying that one is better than the other, because all of these elements are important. I had to talk about the distinction because my criticisms of the recent chapters might be better explained with this context in mind.
As someone who enjoys BC specifically because of the relationships between the characters and the world-building, I've found that the story post-Elf arc has been really... flat. I know Twitter folks will say that BC's pacing has always been quick, but I've been missing some moments where the characters just have room to breathe, you know? Like when Spade Raid ended, we had half a chapter of fun before immediately jumping into the next arc, and I feel like it would have been nice to get a little more exposition on how Spade changed character dynamics. Like, they could have given us a little Greyche moment so their current state in the manga would hit that much harder. Or more bonding time between Nacht and the Bulls, so we appreciate their determination to find Asta together a little more? Does this make any sense? Lmao
Adding to that, I think the quick pacing is detrimental to BC's strengths. A lot of people like the story because there are so many characters with very interesting backstories and motivations, but the nature of the storytelling doesn't leave a lot of room to explore the depths of these characters. Tbh, the Black Bulls' stories are just as important to tell as Asta's journey to becoming WK. Side characters enrich the world, so I'm not a huge fan of glossing over what could have been really impactful moments for characters other than Asta/Yuno/Yami to shine.
For example, someone brought up a great point that the BB fight against Damnatio was symbolic of the uprooting of Clover's caste system. You have this group of outcasts, some who were personally victimized by the corruption of the kingdom as represented by Damnatio, fighting to save the people who shunned them. It would have been nice to get flashbacks of the way that the kingdom has affronted them: Zora grappling with his dad's death and what it meant to be a Magic Knight, Gauche's history of being a convict and being separated from his only family, etc.
I'm glad that we at least had that moment with Nero, and we got to see how Asta specifically changed the trajectory of her life; how she sees Lumiere's vision of the world in Asta's ideal vision when he becomes WK. But I wish they had done the same for the other Bulls or even non-Bulls too, especially since Lucius mentioned that this whole timeline was affected by Asta. That's why I'm sort of disappointed that Asta came back right away to end things. I feel like it would have been more significant if Damnatio had been heavily injured and Asta were to deal the last blow than an unharmed Damnatio and Asta landing a fatal blow only once.
I'm still holding out hope that we'll get more of the Bulls in this arc, though there are currently a lot of loose ends and Asta's already back in the picture. I hope we get followups on Noelle/Acier, YamiChar/Morgen, and Mereo/Morris before Asta ends the battle, but idk what I'm talking about as usual 🤷🏻‍♀️

Black Clover ch357
But.. Yuno did reach you. He effectively chopped off one of those large antlers of yours. And it looks like Lucius is struggling a bit to keep the sword away from him, if those little squiggle lines are anything to go by. Or maybe he’s just absorbing the magic from said sword. I really dunno. Either way, I’m sure it did any reasonable damage to him.
Tumblr media
Seeing young Yami is always a treat, especially with the Grey Deer robe. I say black definitely suits him better. And even if it’s just a minor detail, seeing Jack without that red mark on his face is quite something too. I honestly don’t remember much of what we learned of his backstory during the Spade arc but I doubt he had it back then, since that was also before he became a magic knight. Anyway, I always wondered if that mark of his had a purpose, like was it actually a scar of some kind or was it just sorta there because character design said so?
Tumblr media
The fact this complete psycho was able to get back up after getting a gaping hole through his stomach and his arm chopped off to launch such a massive attack deserves some kudos.
Tumblr media
If it really was his final attack, then damn, what a showing. He put every last bit of power into that slash and it stretched all across the kingdom.
Tumblr media
More importantly, it showed us that those threatening angels can be taken down, or at least damaged in some way. Morgen even comments that if that slash hit him, he would certainly be dead.
Tumblr media
I never really had a strong attachment to Jack. I thought his friendship/rivalry with Yami was nice and I enjoyed seeing him step up his game during the Spade raid, but he was always just sorta there for me? Not one of my favorite captains but not one I disliked either. If he’s really at death’s door, then I do wonder what will happen with the Green Mantis squad in regards to a new captain, especially since we don’t know many of the members. I like En but don’t think he would fit into (or want) the role, the same with Sekke, only I highly doubt his abilities more. Do I wanna see him improve and be more than just a comic relief character? Totally. But I don’t think we’ll see that happen. If Jack does somehow survive this, I say it’ll either be due William (as his tree has saved Golden Dawn members on the brink of death before) or.. Tabata’s writing.
Tumblr media
Now, Tabata can do whatever he wants, but why must the Vermillions always lose arms huh?? First Fuegoleon and now Mereoleona too? like I wanna have my doubts and say that she’ll be fine but she sure as hell doesn’t look it. Her arm is seriously disintegrating right now.
Tumblr media
Wherever Leo might be, he better watch out for his arms. He could be next. This final battle has only just begun and I’m already so worried for everyone else. Especially the Silvas. Oh god I’m still dreading that fight.

who are the cat librarians favourite guests (I know dusko on their fox are on thin ice)
if ivana is a black dragonfly, then what bug would carmina be?
aaand what are some fun bonding activities big wold hakon and baby bunnie do?
loves ylva and nepheli bc theyre quiet and respectful and nepheli does biscuits on the kitty. merope is welcome also, the boys don't like to read. also likes ruhn and rawk bc they're very quiet, not that neela is disrespectful she just squeals at romance books on occasion. hakon and his sister would knock their tails into stuff so they got warned.
she has thought of it since she was like 6 and has landed on medauroidea extradentata. her favorite is scarabaeus sacer though
mostly he just put her in his pocket when she was small to take her on walks, or in his hood sometimes if she promised not to pull on his ears. at home she would have him read for her or tell his own stories, do each others' hair, she would hang onto his tail and get dragged around or then try to pounce and hold it down but unfortunately she had a lot of growing to do to succeed. build snowforts and snow lanterns and snow sculptures, she nibbled on the carrot noses. during warm times he would release her on clover patches and let her eat & look for four leaved ones, make each other flower crowns and bracelets, go raid a berry bush. shes not into swimming like he is but he did insist on teaching her. wouldn't allow her to get too close to the giant wolfdogs

Snowflake and Ashes
A Fragora Fic
A Lahar is when ash and snow mix together, typically when a volcano erupts and the ashes mix in with water or mud. But there are other ways to create lahar, such as a harsh battle in the snow. And for the residents of a small village of Clover, this was sadly the case. A group of criminals was tracked down to this village, where their headquarters was found and raided. But these thugs didn’t go without a fight, and soon the whole village was a battlefield. Luckily there were no fatalities and only minor injuries, still the village itself was ruined. Home destroyed, lives possibly ruined. If it weren’t for the magic knights, who shortly after the battle immediately began to rebuild and offer food, temporary housing, and medical help to those in need. And as for Zora, he felt a great duty to help out. Since this village reminded him so much of his home village, and it’s what his father would have done. So currently he was scanning the area, seeing if there was anyone caught under the rubble.
So imagine Zora's surprise when he found a young girl, who could not be any younger than ten, on the ground crying with a scraped knee. It was obvious she had gotten caught in the middle of the battle, and the poor thing was frightened. Zora did what any good knight would do, and went to make sure the kid was alright before taking her to the medical mages.
“Hey kid, you okay?” Zora kneels down, he knew his appearance wasn’t exactly the friendly looking type. So he made sure to talk in a calm tone, so as to not scare the girl.
“M-My knee i-it hurts.” The girl sniffled, she had a bad scrape on her knee. And by the looks of it, it could get infected if he doesn’t take her to the medic in time.
“Alright, I’m going to take you to some nice people. They’ll heal you up.” He went to grab the girl, but she flinched back and Zora couldn’t blame her. Again, he wasn’t the most friendly looking person, and after the whole criminal fiasco, she was probably traumatized. Nonetheless Zora was set on getting this girl some help.
“Hey kid, I know I might seem scary. But see this robe?” Zora pointed to the Black Bull design on his robe. “This means I’m not one of those mean guys, I’m here to help.”
The girl, while still hesitant at first, soon allowed him to gently pick her up, and soon they were making their way to where the camp was set up.
“Once we get there you’ll be seen by a medic, and then they’ll find your parents.” Zora told the girl in an effort to comfort her. They’d been spending a lot of time reuniting families that had been split up in all the chaos, and so far they’ve been very successful.
“Y-you think so Mister…”
“Call me, the awesome super knight Zora.”
The girl looked at him a bit confused.
“Or just Zora,” He gently patted her head. “And as for your question, I don’t doubt it. They’re probably worried sick about you, ya little twerp.”
The girl smiled slightly, and hugged him a bit as the cold winter air flowed.
Once they arrived at the camp Zora walked to the infirmary, while walking there he saw Asta, Liebe and Noelle playing with the kids, Charmy cooking up food for the residents of the village to eat, and Nero reading some book to the kids who didn’t feel like playing. They were doing their part to help out where they could, it wasn’t just the black bulls, members from the Crimson Lions like Leo were out doing patrols in search of other victims, Golden Dawn members such as Mimosa were helping with the medical field, and even the Aqua deer were helping out by providing accommodation such as beds, blankets, and clothing.
Inside the infirmary Zora’s eyes landed on a familiar looking blue haired lady.
“Hey Grey.” Zora walked over to her as she finished healing a man with a broken arm.
“Z-zora.” She greeted him, he and her had been getting along recently after a mission they’d been placed together. In a weird way they enjoyed each other’s company, and have this very odd sibling relationship to the point where sometimes they’ll accidentally introduce themselves as siblings, and after a while just stop bothering to correct themselves.
“I got a little twerp with a scraped knee, think you can help?”
“O-Of course I can.” Grey began to heal the girl's leg.
“Thanks, and you don’t mind if I leave her with you for a bit?”
“Not all Zora,” She responded and smiled at him. “Going to go see her again?”
“What of it?”
“N-Nothing at all.” She giggled, causing Zora to scoff.
“I knew I shouldn’t have taught you how to tease someone.” He then turned to the girl. “My sis here is going to take care of you, I’ll be back with someone to help find your parents. Okay?”
“O-Okay mister Zora.” The girl answered.
Zora made his way out of the infirmary and directly to a few members of the Aqua Deers, currently they were helping people find lost family members so he knew they could help. More specifically one certain member.
“Look, it’s a snowflake in her natural habitat.” The voice of a certain redhead made Fragil turn to his direction.
“Hello to you too Zora.” She walked up to him and planted a kiss on his lips, causing the trickster to turn away, surely blushing under his mask.
“I told you, I don’t like kissing in public.”
“I know, but it’s nice seeing you flustered.” Fragil smiled. Zora didn’t hate kissing her, more so he liked to keep his whole ‘brute’ act up and it was hard if he kissed his lover openly. But when they’re alone together he’s the one who gives the most kisses. “Did you need something?”
“Yeah actually, I found a young girl. She’s currently with Grey getting her knee healed up, mind helping find her folks?”
“Of course, will you take me to her?” Fragil asked.
Both made their ways to the infirmary to find the girl all better.
“Good to see that you’re all better, twerp.” Zora made his presence known, while Fragil nudged him.
“Zora.” She said to him, even though it was just how he referred to people.
The young girl looked at Fragil in awe, she thought she was beautiful and to the two knights they knew.
“Oi twerp, this beauty is Fragil. My future wife.” Zora introduced the girl to a now scarlet Fragil.
“Zora!” Fragil practically yelled.
“What?”
“You don’t say stuff like that!”
“Why not, it’s true isn’t it? We’re gonna get married, find a nice place in the woods to live, and have lots of kids.” Zora said knowing it would make her blush madly, though he meant everything he said. He wanted to marry her and start a family, and Fragil knew that which only made her blush even more. As well as her heart beating rapidly.
“N-nice to meet you, lady Fragil.” The young girl said. This made Fragil come back to the real world, and she kneeled down to the little girl’s level before addressing her.
“Hello darling, mind if i ask for your name?” Fragil asked, she would need a name to be able to find her parents.
”J-Julia, Julia rainer.”
“Well Julia, I promise you as a magic knight that we will find your parents.” She reassured Julia.
Together the three exited the tent, they made their way back to the other aqua deer’s. There were groups of people asking for them to find their loved ones, with the knights writing names down and assuring them they’ll do everything they can.
“Alright dear, you wait here and I’ll find your parents.” Fragil told Julia before turning to Zora. “No funny business.”
“Aw, but that’s the best kind of business.” Zora chuckled at his own joke. “But alright, but expect some tomfoolery.”
Fragil rolled her eyes yet still giggled softly.
“Mister Zora?”
“Yes, twerp?”
“Are you really going to marry lady Fragil?”
“Of course I am, didn’t you hear what I said before? I’m gonna marry her, and have kids just like you.” He booped her nose making her giggle.
Zora smiled warmly under his mask, Julia reminded him of a younger him. So curious and full of life, something he doesn’t have now, since he spends most times napping after doing night patrols. But still, it fills him with hope for the future of clover. And all it takes is them making the right decision today.
“Zora!” He was dragged out of his thoughts by Fragils voice.
“Yeah?”
“Bring Julia, her parents are here!” She called out, and at the mention of the girl’s parents they made their way immediately.
“Julia!”
“We’re so glad you’re okay!” Both her parents hugged her and held her closely. Meanwhile Zora and Fragil watched, with the latter having a warm smile on her face. As they watched the small family together Zora wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close to him for their own hug.
“Lovely family aren’t they?” Zora asked.
“Yeah, yeah they are.” She responded.
“Want one?”
The question got her flustered.
“Again with the marriage thing?”
“Well?”
She huffed but kissed him.
“Soon, my love.” She told him before kissing him once again.
“Mister Zora, Miss Fragil.” Both turned to see Julia looking at them. “Thank you, so very much.”
“Hey, don’t mention twerp.” Zora told her.
“Will I see you guys again?” Julia asked with a hopeful look in her eyes.
“Of course dear, as long as we are alive we’ll always make sure to protect you guys.” Fragil assured her.
“Okay!” She chirped happily. “Hope I get to go to your wedding!” She said before running back to her parents, leaving a cackling Zora and a scarlet Fragil.
“Well we have to invite her now, wouldn’t you say?” Zora looked at the tomato.
“Q-Quiet you!” Fragil said before burying her face in his chest.
“I love you snowflake.” Zora said as he rubbed her back.
“I love you too, you meanie.” she responded as it began to snow.

Silver Cats & Black Roses
Chapter 1 – And so, it began...
Tumblr media
A/N Time for me to also post one of my longer fics here (and probably also my start of FINALLY doing some masterlists here). Silver Cats & Black Roses is a story I love in particular, as it also allowed me the shape my Black Clover fics more in detail. I wrote it last year, all 35 chapters and while I didn't expect it to become this long, I'm actually pretty happy with how it ended up. So, here the first chapter 💜💙

♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣
Was it weird to look at an empty glass and hoping it would answer all your questions, even the ones you don’t even ask or think about?
Yes. Yes, it was totally weird.
And still, Vanessa couldn’t help but looking at her glass and hoping for answers.
They had just won over the Dark Triad and the devils, saved captain Yami and captain William, as well as the freed the Spade kingdom from years of a dark reign.
Right now, everyone was either healing, being looked after or looking after others, got some whole deserved rest or just, trying to calm down after all those fights.
Vanessa managed to gather a glass and a bottle of Spade wine somewhere, she didn’t pay attention what place it was and found a nice spot under a tree. A bit away from the tents that were build up in haste, but still near enough to be there in a moment, if she needed to.
Vanessa would have liked to celebrate the victory with the Bulls and some others, but that would probably be for another time. They were all exhausted from the battle, some were probably asleep and others went to look after other people – she saw Finral helping Langris lie down on a bed not too long ago.
And maybe, just maybe, Vanessa needed some time alone for once, to get her thoughts in order.
Although, she didn’t really know what those thoughts had to be about. While she drank her glass empty to refill it, she kept thinking kinda unbothered about the war within Spade, the fact the Black Bulls do have a vice-captain, the Dark Triad, the devils, the abduction and later the rescue of captain Yami and captain William, all those fights… and so many other things, basically everything that happened in a bunch of a bit more than a week.
But now that both glass and bottle were empty, Vanessa realized that in this very moment, her mind actually got a grip on only one specific moment.
Captain Charlottes’ confession to captain Yami.
And more importantly… the fact that Vanessa neither felt jealous or betrayed or sad or angry or any similar feeling about it. None of these emotions have pierced Vanessas heart when she heard Charlottes teary and heartbreaking love confession.
In fact, nothing pierced her heart at all. Vanessa only felt her obvious worries for her captain, but also compassion, sadness for the captain of the Blue Rose Squad. Maybe also a bit of hope, but not for herself… Vanessa couldn’t explain why.
And Vanessa was also unable to explain why she wasn’t even surprised that she didn’t even felt any jealousy. Wasn’t it weird to be surprised about not being surprised? To not be jealous for something…
It was really stupid and probably also selfish that she was focusing on that right now, instead of other more important things. After all, a fiery raid against powerful enemies just ended and even though it ended in a victory for Clover, Heart, the Spade rebels and every one of their allies, how was everybody’s physical state? And more importantly, how was everybody’s mental state?
And still, all alone as she was right now, Vanessa couldn’t help but think about how surprisingly different she felt about that confession than she would have thought.
She had a huge crush on Yami, right after he freed her from her cage and made a Black Bull out of her. Only to get heartbroken just a few days later, a very specific day Vanessa never liked to remember…
She never really thought to be over it, given that the few guys she shortly dated over the years were all buff men, like Yami. Now that Vanessa thought about it, was that almost like she tried to replace him in her heart?
Finral had said something like that to her, one day. Finral, her best friend, who always had disastrous flirting attempts with no success and who was so shy and respectable around the only woman he truly loves. He actually had such good romance advice for others, but those others, herself included, barely listened to him.
Which was probably stupid.
“There’s a lot of buff men, Vanessa, but not everyone is like captain Yami. Heck, given how he is, no one is like captain Yami.”
“Oh, I know that, Fin.”
“I believe you, but do you also realized it?”
No, she didn’t. Or maybe she did realized that fact, but she ignored it instead. Why? Vanessa couldn’t really tell.
Maybe she couldn’t accept that what she felt for her captain was more gratitude and the affection of a sibling than anything. Maybe she couldn’t get over her first heartbreak and since Yami was out of reach on a romantic level, she tried to find a replacement, despite knowing that there wouldn’t be a second Yami Sukehiro.
“I was really stupid,” Vanessa muttered. Even more so that her crush on Yami was more like a lost sad puppy imprinting on the first nice person who cared about her and with her previous flings, she felt mostly excitement and attraction, which never really lasted long. And she flirted and teased left and right, because she find it fun.
But she never had been in love.
Which honestly sucks in her eyes. Vanessa was a romantic, she supported Finral in his quest – her words, not his – to become the man Finesse deserved. She tried to play the matchmaker for her squadmates. Without much success, granted. Asta was just as dense as Yami, Noelle too stubborn to even admit her own feelings to herself, Gray and Gauche were such a case on their very own and the rest of her squadmates were also such disasters when romance was involved. Also not very cooperative. And still, not always but pretty often, Vanessa continued to try. After all, she loved each one of her squadmates and wanted them to be happy.
There were only two Black Bulls she never tried to pair up with someone. First Nacht, but Vanessa only met him like three days ago and so never got the opportunity to play a matchmaker for him.
The other, was of course Yami. There were many reasons why Vanessa never tried. First, he was scary when someone put their nose in his privacy. Second, he was so horribly dense, he was so unable to realize when a anybody, man or woman, was interested in him.
And third… Charlotte Roselei, captain of the Blue Rose squad.
Did she actually never tried to pair up captain Yami with anyone because she still had that foolish, stubborn and stupid hope that he would choose her? Or because she knew that there was someone who actually loved him already?
But then, why did Vanessa never tried to help captain Charlotte to make her move on Yami?
Was it because Charlotte criticized Yami and didn’t looked like she admired him every day? But Noelle also criticized Asta for many things and it was mostly to hide her own feelings, Charlotte had obviously a similar approach. Even though that unlike Noelle, Charlotte actually never seemed like she denied her feelings to herself.
As for the admiration part, what had Finral told her once?
“Vanessa, as much as admiring your loved one is always nice and most often sweet, it becomes problematic when you put your partner on a pedestal. This makes a gap in your relationship and it’s worse if you’re blind to your partner’s flaws, even considering that person flawless.”
Finral was right, of course he was right.
Now that Vanessa thought about it, it was actually pretty obvious that captain Charlotte didn’t put captain Yami on a pedestal. No, by not being blind by his flaws and still loving him despite them, Charlotte embraced all of Yami, who he was. She didn’t saw a strong, flawless hero, she saw Yami Sukehiro.
Vanessa actually admired that about captain Charlotte. Love must be strong if you embrace about the person you love, even the rather bad sides, but without denying them. Vanessa knew that back then, when she had that crush on Yami, she’d put him on a pedestal. Well, he saved her and took her in, she had been innocent and overwhelmed by her saviour, by the world outside the Witches Forest. But a relationship wouldn’t have work, she knew that today.
“I should have helped captain Charlotte,” Vanessa whispered, still looking at her empty glass.
She felt a bit empty as well, right now. The realization she made might have opened her eyes, but it also made her feel somehow lonely.
Vanessa hadn’t felt lonely since the cage and she didn’t like that this horrible feeling was back. But it was back… and it was strange. How could she ever felt lonely with the Black Bulls, when you weren’t pulling a Nacht? How was it possible to feel lonely with Black Bulls, when everyone was there for each other, having fun together?
Vanessa wasn’t against change, as long as it wasn’t drastic. But she didn’t want her current life to change, the Black Bulls current life to change. She lived in the present, her horrible past behind her, not caring for the future.
But would it change? Their lives already changed when Asta joined the Black Bulls. They were misfits with a home, but no perspective and Asta gave them hope, to become better, to become real Magic Knights. But their lives haven’t changed that much due to that.
But wouldn’t it have more drastic changes if Yami will go out with captain Charlotte? When Finral would finally marry lady Finesse and be on better terms with his brother? When Grey and Gauche would finally get together or Asta and Noelle? Or Noelle starting to be on better terms with her siblings, at least with her oldest brother? And Gordon visiting his family more to learn and to improve his skills? And Magna, and Charmy, and Luck, and Zora, and Henry? Even Nacht?
Vanessa was certain that her squadmates wouldn’t disappear from her life like that, but their lives didn’t always turned only around the Black Bulls. Changes are bound to happen, whether she liked or not.
All she hoped was that it wouldn’t be fast changes, but she had no power over it. And changes could take many forms, could happen in so many different ways. She couldn’t stop it and honestly, given how most of her squadmates wanted to change some situations in their lives, she didn’t even wanted to.
Maybe it was time she tried something new, once they came back from Spade.
Vanessa didn’t know if changes would come to her or if she needed to provoke it. But it wouldn’t be today. She was still overwhelmed from the aftermath of the whole raid and exhausted. Not to mention consider all the topics she just thought about.
The noise of footsteps over the cold grass interrupted her thought. Which meant that she wasn’t alone anymore. Vanessa didn’t really mind. She surely wasn’t the only one who had some thinking to do after everything that happened.
Looking up, Vanessa was actually surprised to see Nozel Silva, captain of the Silver Eagles, just stopping a few meters in front of her. Looking over the horizon, but not really seeing what was in front of him.
Was he in thoughts too? He always had that cold, emotionless glance whenever she saw him, but today, there was a crack in the mask, something that made him look more human, more vulnerable.
It suited him.
Vanessa had to admit that she had mixed feelings about him. On one hand, there was the whole situation with Noelle, but at the same time, Vanessa couldn’t help but think that there was more about him than anyone would think.
Yami didn’t liked him and made fun of his appearance, but Vanessa couldn’t help but like the looks of captain Nozel actually appealing, even though he wasn’t her type. She just wasn’t blind and even though the frontal braid might be ridiculous, but somehow it wasn’t on him. Captain Nozel wasn’t buff, but he wasn’t a string bean like captain Jack either. Vanessa had no idea if he had a muscular body or not, given the clothes he wear made it difficult to see that instantly.
He always looked so cold, so unbothered, you say arrogant, but not like the usual annoying nobles or royals Vanessa knew. And lately, he had tried to mend his relationship with Noelle and her squadmate was actually very happy about it. Unsure, yes, but nothing could hide the fact that despite everything, she still loved her brother and wanted to be on better terms with him.
And who was Vanessa to go against someone who was genuinely trying to make amends. It wasn’t obvious, but saying that captain Nozel wasn’t trying would be stupid. Vanessa still find it too slow, but given how Noelle was, it might be a Silva thing.
Noelle also told her that her new pink ribbons she was wearing now had been a gift from her brother and Vanessa actually find that gesture cute. Especially how Noelle was wearing them apparently every day now, she clearly loved those ribbons.
Nozel Silva didn’t seem to realize that he wasn’t alone. Last time Vanessa saw him, Noelle had been hugging him, awkwardly so, but still it was a hug. Why was he alone now? And how was her squadmate?
“How is Noelle? Last time I saw her, she was with you.”
There was a flinch. Just half a second long and just a tiny one. Not everyone would have noticed it. But Vanessa did. It was nice to know that he had normal reactions, just like everyone else.
“Pardon me, I wasn’t aware of your presence.”
It didn’t sound insulting. Not even prideful, just stating a fact.
“Don’t worry, you couldn’t. Usually I’m more the chipper type, but today is a bit a special case, for obvious reasons. So, what about Noelle?”
“She fell asleep not so long ago. Probably due to all the exhaustion from the battle. I brought her in one of the tents and staid a while. Until one of your squadmates came to take over. The one who can turn herself into a bird, Nero, I think? I left Noelle in her capable hands for a while. I… needed some time for myself.”
“Sorry to have taken the spot then.”
“Don’t be, you were here first. I’ll go somewhere else.”
“Don’t go, handsome. Just because I’m here alone doesn’t mean I want to be lonely. You can keep me company, if you want.”
Captain Nozel just looked blankly at her, before nodding and going back to his contemplation of the Spade horizon. Vanessa had to admit that he had a very nice profile and that jawline was worth to be noticed. His skin was pale, just like Noelle. But like his sister, it was a sick kind of pale, it was more like glowing, a bit like moonlight. Just like herself, he had purple eyes, in a more cold, winterlike and metallic shade. Considering what type of magic he had, it was probably normal that it looked metallic. Those were some gorgeous eyes, Vanessa had to admit.
His hair looked straight and rather spiky, but Vanessa wondered if the texture was more soft and silky, like Noelles. She wondered how he would like with a ponytail, a low one or how it would be if it was completely free, even without the braid. A braid that still looked pretty good on him.
“Noelle told me that you gave her those pink ribbons. She wears it all the time, apparently, she clearly loves them.”
“I’m glad to hear it.”
A slight smile appeared on his lips. Just a second, but it was there.
“You can show how much it makes you happy. It clearly means a lot to Noelle and honestly, she deserved that.”
“Yes… she does.”
It was all he said and Vanessa had a feeling that captain Nozel was talking more to himself than to her.
How deep was this man? How many emotions did he hide?
Vanessas curiosity was a bit awaken, but she didn’t know if she should push. Nozel was such a distant man and he didn’t seemed like the type of person who would open up if you teased and pushed him enough, he might even distance himself even more.
“What are you thinking about?”
“It is none of your concern.”
“If it’s about Noelle, then it does concern me, she is my squadmate.”
Vanessa hoped she didn’t sound too hard, even though that man might have deserved it.
“It’s not only about her. I was also thinking about my mother.”
His voice sounded sad, especially when he said mother. Now, Vanessa really hoped that her last sentence hadn’t been too hard.
“Sorry.”
“Don’t be. You’re… right. Noelle also concerns you. But my mother… it’s a heavy… topic for me.”
His voice was so soft all of a sudden. It was actually pretty clear how difficult it was for Nozel to talk about this topic.
Vanessa knew that Noelle still missed her mother, despite having no memories of her. She had been just a baby when Acier Silva died. But what about her siblings, what about captain Nozel?
They had memories about their mother, so maybe, just maybe, they suffered too from this loss? Vanessa couldn’t tell for Nebra and Solid Silva, but captain Nozel… those few words, his soft and sad voice, it proved that like Noelle, he missed their mother too, he was certainly still grieving.
How old was Nozel when Acier Silva died? Vanessa did a quick math. Thirteen, fourteen, something like that… too young to even have his grimoire yet. Losing his mother at that age, it must have break something in him.
Vanessa looked at him, while he was staring at the horizon. The cold mask was still there, but Nozel didn’t tried to hide the cracks. Why? She didn’t know, but Vanessa tried to look a bit farther.
There was some kind of loneliness in his eyes. Resignation too. It looked somehow… like he was in a cage. Just like she was in the past. Vanessa almost gasped, because the familiarity with what she saw in his eyes was pretty scary.
And sad too. In what kind of cage was he locked in?
Vanessa sighed, compassionate. Who would have thought that she would feeling kinship for Nozel Silva of all people?
“I’ve been thinking a lot too, just now.”
Vanessa didn’t know why she said that out loud, why even she would tell him of all people. But somehow it needed to get out. Just a bit.
“What about?”
It’s none of your concern, she almost said, just to tease him. But she didn’t feel like it right now. Even though she probably wouldn’t tell him everything.
“Probably some stupid stuff. I had a crush a long time ago, but that guy break my heart.”
“Then… he probably don’t deserve you.”
“Well, I never ever told him and he’s so dense, he probably never realized it. Well, he never realized when anyone, man or woman, is interested in him.”
“My point still stands. If that man never realized what you feel for him, then he probably doesn’t deserve you.”
“Maybe I also don’t deserve him. It was more like a lost puppy crush than love, if you understand what I mean. Actually, I felt more like friendship and sibling affection towards him. Also gratitude, probably. I just… never wanted to admit it. I kinda searched for a replacement, but I never felt something deep, just excitement and attraction.”
“Oh.”
Vanessa looked up to him. Captain Nozel just stared at her, his expression unreadable, but his glance wasn’t unkind.
“And then… Let’s say not so long ago, I heard another person confess to him. And I didn’t feel anything. No jealousy, nothing that felt like dagger in your heart. Just… compassion for this person, because that guy is so dense. And hope, not for me, but for that person.”
“That would mean that you have a good heart in my books.”
“Not sure about that, but thanks still. But for me, it also meant that I was trying to reach something I didn’t want anymore. Well, something like that. I’ve already gave up on him, I just never realized it. Maybe I ignored it? I just felt stupid, especially since I can’t stop thinking about it. Love can make you really stupid.”
“This is true.”
“Oh, speaking from experience, handsome?”
“It isn’t about me, but about someone I knew a long time ago. She… she had an arranged marriage, but fell in love with her betrothed.”
“She was lucky, then.”
“I wouldn’t say so, because he didn’t loved her back. In fact, that marriage was just a step to reach his own selfish ambitions. He married more the house, it’s wealth and powers than the woman herself.”
“Ouch. And did she knew it?”
“I don’t know. Maybe she did, but didn’t want to realized it. She spent years to claim that she loved him.”
A bit just like herself.
Vanessa had no idea who this woman was, but like with Nozel before, she felt some kind of kinship for that person. Okay, Yami wasn’t a scumbag like that husband, but still.
“Did she realized it one day?”
“Not for long, I’m afraid. I think the signs were there, but not clear enough, so I don’t blame her. She wanted a bunch of children, but he just wanted one, to assure his position, I suppose. He never liked fatherhood.”
“Then why wanting children in the first place? How would that have assured his position?”
“He married into his wife’s house, not the other way around. Having heirs is often important concerning arranged marriages. The husband actually hoped that the child would inherit a magic similar to his type.”
“Let me guess, that child didn’t got the dad’s magic.”
“Exactly. Instead, the child got a magic type similar to his mother. Of course, the father wasn’t happy about it and wanted more children. His wife was happy about it, so it took her some time to open her eyes. I believe she started to have some suspicions after they got their third child. And when she was pregnant with the fourth… it was a difficult pregnancy and I think she didn’t had the strength anymore to uphold her delusion.”
Nozels voice was sad, a little far away. As if he wasn’t talking to Vanessa anymore…
Vanessa had no idea who that woman was to him. An unrequited love? A best friend he cared about? Whoever she was, she must have been important to him.
“I’m sorry for her. That awakening must have been tough on her. But she loved her children, right?”
“Yes… she did love them deeply. It helped her to live with that realization.”
Vanessa hummed. Nozel talked about that woman in the past and she didn’t know how she should feel about it. She decided to not push more, despite her curiosity. That story clearly weighed on the captain of the Silver Eagles.
“Well, that’s life, I guess. Time to move on for me, I suppose.”
“Will you try to search for someone else?”
“Don’t know. Maybe this time I will just let it come to me. I won’t search, that’s for sure, you can find something without searching sometimes, you know.”
“If you say so.”
“What about you, handsome? Do you wanna find your better half as well.”
“No.”
“Ugh, why not? Not interested?”
“It has nothing to do with my own preferences. I just don’t have that luxury to find someone. It is my duty, so that my siblings can have that freedom.”
The tone was almost harsh, but not quite. Vanessa didn’t liked how it sounded like he would sacrifice himself into a loveless marriage, so that his siblings could choose who and what they wanted.
At least, it meant that captain Nozel would not marry Noelle off against her will and that she could choose Asta – if she just finally stopped denying her feelings towards him. But Vanessa couldn’t help but feel that the sacrifice of her brother’s happiness would make it worth to Noelle.
After all, she loved her brother and she had a good heart.
But maybe Vanessa understood it wrong? Maybe the royal side of Nozel Silva didn’t allow to spill any unroyal wishes in front of someone he barely knew? He already let his mask down a bit telling that sad story.
Vanessa hoped she understood his sentence wrong. It was never nice to know that people would sacrifice their lives and happiness for someone else. Even though she would do that too, like when the whole drama with Astas arms happened…
Okay, she better won’t go that road again, because she really felt too exhausted for that. She already had her bunch of thoughts and she even got a kinda deep conversation with someone she barely knew, just after a life threatening raid.
“Sorry I pushed you.”
“Don’t be. You couldn’t know.”
Vanessa just hummed, before trying to get up. Sadly, she felt rather wobbly once she stood, to a point that Nozel looked at her with concern.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m maybe a bit tipsy. Probably due to the Spade wine I just drank. I don’t even know why, Spade wine is worse than the cheap wine we have in Clover.”
“Shall I accompany you somewhere?”
“Oh, so you are a gentleman, nice to know. Well… I would say no and that I’m fine, but… it’s obviously not true. So, I better take the offer.”
Nozel just nodded and walked over to her, putting an arm respectfully around her waist. Vanessa never knew that this gesture could ever be respectful and kinda distant in general. But it didn’t bothered her right now. Actually, it felt nice.
As they walked slowly back to the camp, Vanessa couldn’t help but take a side-glance at captain Nozel. The mask was back, but the cracks of it weren’t invisible anymore. Vanessa found herself hoping that it won’t be the last time she saw them.
“Captain Nozel?”
“What is it?”
“What you told me just a moment ago… Don’t worry, I won’t spill the beans.”
“I… thank you. I also won’t tell anyone about what you told me.”
“I’m not forcing you to keep the secret. But still, thanks, cap’.”
She really wanted take some more glances behind his cold mask…
♣♣♣
Charlotte found herself stupid. So, so stupid.
What was she thinking? Why did she spur her love for Yami out loud like that, in the middle of a battlefield, for anyone to hear it?
Anyone, except the very person her love confession was meant to. Oh, the irony.
Okay, Charlotte knew why she said it out loud. Yami was on the brink of death and she had been so terribly scared to lose him. In the end, she didn’t regret it to have screamed those words. After ten years, they had needed to finally get out.
Too bad that Yami haven’t heard them. Even worse that Charlotte haven’t found the courage to say them again. Instead, she just passed out. It was so embarassing. Well, only for herself, most people seemed to blame the whole battle and exhaustion for that.
She quickly came back to her senses and to distract herself, Charlotte helped to take care of others, to organize the camp, to rest from the battle… To do anything that would keep her from thinking about Yami.
She went to see queen Lolopechka and sir Gadjah, who actually looked like they wanted to try a romantic relationship. They were so lucky…
Charlotte also went to see Rill, who first ate some of this wonderful food cooked by Charmy Pappitson and then went straight to sleep, she also looked a bit after William, who was deeply asleep, with Mimosa Vermillion, Yuno and Langris Vaude watching over him.
But now, she was in front of the tent where Yami was and instead of going in, she just stood in front of the tent, completely frozen.
She couldn’t just go away without seeing him, after what he’d been through, after everyone came to save him and William, after she just blurted out his feelings for him out loud.
But that last part was the very reason why Charlotte couldn’t find herself moving. Really, how pathetic was she? Charlotte finally found herself the courage to yell her feelings out loud and just because Yami didn’t heard her confession, she felt like she went three steps back instead of one step forward.
Not to mention that she had no idea who had heard her confession and Charlotte hated uncertainty on many, many levels. But on the other hand, after everything that just happened, who would give some deeper thoughts about her confession?
Charlotte find it very selfish of herself to even think that anyone would care enough of her confession to give it more importance than it had right now. And still, Charlotte wished that there would be someone she could talk about it, maybe to try lighten to heavy burden on her heart. But no knight of her squad was here right now and Charlotte didn’t know with who else she could have a heart to heart. Maybe Dorothy, but the captain of the Coral Peacock went back to sleep just after the final battle was over and Charlotte knew better than to wake her up.
And it was better to focus on more important things than her feelings, after all.
Was Yami awake, even? Would he ask her again what she said?
Or was he asleep, getting some whole deserved rest? And would Charlotte just be back where she was before her confession?
Right now, none of those possibilities seemed appealing to the captain of the Blue Roses, but she wouldn’t get any answer if she just stood in front of the tent.
“It’s alright, Charlotte, take a deep breath. Don’t overthink this, you just going to check on him,” she whispered to herself.
But of course, her own pep talk wasn’t enough to make her move.
“You can come in, captain Charlotte.”
Charlotte flinched and let out a small yelp. Deep in thoughts as she was, she hadn’t realized that Asta came out of the tent and stood now in front of her.
The young magicless knight frowned a bit and took a closer look on the blonde woman. “Are you alright, captain? Your Ki is kinda weird.”
“What… Oh, no, no. I’m fine, don’t worry. I’m just fine. Well, as fine as one could be under those circumstances. A lot happened.”
“That make sense. You came to see captain Yami, right?”
“Yes, well… not too long, I just wanted to check on him.”
“Come in. He’s asleep, but he would surely be happy to know that you came to see him.”
Asta took nonchalantly her arm and guide her into the tent. Yami was resting on a bed, looking deeply asleep and even snoring a bit.
Why did she find his snoring so adorable? Was it what love made to her? Well, at least she didn’t mind it at all.
Another Black Bull was also there, sitting on a chair. With sunglasses and bicoloured hair, it could only be Magna Swing. Charlotte remembered that he first also came in the Heart Kingdom to train, but left pretty quickly. She also heard that he defeated Dante Zogratis and that was actually very impressive.
Magna didn’t turned his head when Asta and Charlotte came in. “If it’s vice-captain Nacht again, tell him that if he’s came again to say negative things about captain Yami, he better leave right now.”
“It’s not our vice-captain. And Magna, please be nice, Nacht isn’t that bad. He’s just… unique, like captain Yami.”
“You’re just nice on him because you’re obviously his fav- Oh, captain Charlotte! I haven’t seen you, sorry!”
“It’s alright.”
“Apparently, Magna had an argument with our vice-captain just like half an hour ago. I don’t know about what, we only known vice-captain Nacht since a few days and still barely, but well…”
“It’s alright, Asta. I understand.”
Charlotte just smiled at the two Black Bull knights. She could understand their somehow mixed feeling about their vice-captain. Charlotte herself didn’t know what she should feel about Nacht Faust, but she barely knew him and it would take some long time to see more deeply into him.
And right now, it wasn’t the vice-captain of the Black Bulls that she wanted to focus on, but on their captain.
Magna offered his chair and Charlotte gave him a small, grateful smile before looking at Yami.
He looked so peaceful while he was asleep, almost like a child. Which was quite the paradox, since he already looked older than his 29 years.
Charlotte hoped with all her heart that Yami will have all the rest he deserved, after everything that happened in not even a week. She wanted him to rest, to come back just as strong and brutish and still caring as he always, just like before.
But would everything come back to normal afterwards? Charlotte doubted it. If she knew one thing, it was that changes were inevitable and that it would hardly ever be like before. A lot changed after the attack of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, a lot would change too after the raid of Spade.
Charlotte continued to stare at Yami. She wanted to caress his hair, to slick it back, to take his hands and intertwine their fingers. But they weren’t alone. Heck, they weren’t even a couple, she had no right to do those such simple things.
She sighed. Where does she exactly stand after her desperate confession?
“Hm, captain Charlotte?”
“What is it, Asta?”
“About what you said to captain Yami before he was healed.”
Charlotte forced herself to not flinch, doing her best to stay calm. Of course Asta and Magna knew. Of course the Black Bulls knew. Basically all of them were there, they heard her blurting out that she loved Yami.
Now, Charlotte feared what they would say. She had no reason to be afraid. And yet she was. Would they be upset at her for it? Did they hoped that the witch would be the one Yami chooses? Or would they be understanding? Or something else entirely?
“We love him too, you know.”
Wait, what?
“Yeah, just like Asta said. He’s like a father to us, he gave us a home, he took us in when almost no one else would. Of course we love him. But it’s nice to know that people outside of our squad appreciate him too. We make sure he knows that you love him too.”
Hold on a minute? Didn’t Asta and Magna took her love confession as one?
“I knew from your Ki that you didn’t dislike captain Yami, but that you trust him. You just had some difficulties to say what you feel. It’s nice that you finally said out loud that you appreciate captain Yami.”
“Yeah, it sucks that he didn’t hear you. We’ll tell him what you said. Well, he probably won’t believe us that easily, but who cares? We’re actually happy to know that captain William isn’t the only captain to like him the way he should be.”
Charlotte looked from Asta to Magna and back, trying to recognize if they knew about her love for Yami and where either making some fun of her or just didn’t use the most direct words. Or if they were clueless and just dense as Yami, genuinely thinking that she like Yami as a friend and colleague, nothing else.
Looking at those two, Charlotte quickly conclude that it was the latter. She didn’t if she should be upset that she got the two Black Bulls that didn’t get her love confession despite having heard it first-hand. Or if she should be relieved that Asta and Magna were just as dense as Yami, that she fell on them and not a Black Bull who actually got her confession right and who maybe would have tried to talk with her about it.
Charlotte decided to have mixed feelings about it, but she still thanked Asta and Magna. They were dense, yes, but goodhearted and that was more important for her.
The three went silent, watching over Yami, every one of them focusing on their own thoughts and listening to Yamis snoring. It was really adorable.
After a while, Charlotte heard soft footsteps outside and turned her head towards the entrance of the tent.
She was quite surprised to see Nozel Silva together with the Black Bull witch, Vanessa Enoteca, holding her a bit like she needed help to walk. The witch was probably exhausted too. Maybe she also came to see Yami. It hurt Charlotte just a little, but Vanessa Enoteca was a Black Bull and had surely more right to check on Yami than the captain of the Blue Roses.
But just when Charlotte was about to stand up from the chair, she saw Nozel and Vanessa pass the tent without stopping. That wasn’t what she expected and Charlotte just looked at them until they disappeared, before she focused her eyes back on Yami.
Somehow, Charlotte couldn’t help but think that she just witnessed the beginning of something.
And so, it began…
