Today's faceup is on a Pipos R.PI Charlotte in grey akin, along with a manicure and tail blush. She was a fun commission to work on, as I've always wanted to work on a Pipos doll!
I have a before and after of her, the previous faceup was done by the owner, but they wanted a more experienced hand for her fresh faceup. I was happy to oblige!

Excessive silliness below the cut, but suffice it to say, my collection has hit a truly absurd degree of perfect for me.
Ok,
I recently got the last doll I ordered in (Moss), and am super excited cause she seems to perfectly fit into what was the only remaining gap in my collection. And, as the other doll I bought over the summer (Jameson) really served to pull my "main group" together, I've been feeling incredibly content with my bjds.
Things may change of course, I have a history of being a revolving door collector, but I honestly haven't felt any urge to buy new dolls at all since I ordered the last two.
Now for the fun, funny, and entirely coincidental reason my collection has reached Perfection. The Numbers. I'm terrible at math, but I love serendipitous number patterns. My absolute favorite numbers are 3, 4, 7, and 13.
- 3 each: anthro dolls, fantasy SDs, and MSDs
- 4: there's 16 in total, which makes for a perfect 4x4 grid, and there's four doll groups- anthros, fantasy SDs, modern SD+s, and MSDs
- 7 each: my main focus group is 7 (the modern SD+s), and, removing the stranger resin colors of orange and black, there are 7 dolls with fair resin and 7 with tan.
- 13: there's 13 humanoid dolls altogether!
Honestly, this group couldn't have worked out any better if I planned it, especially since hilariously serendipitous numbers coincided perfectly with my feeling wonderfully content with my crew. Super looking forward to just working on and enjoying all of them for a good while.
All dolls, in left to right top to bottom reading order.
Poesy: Doll Leaves Dreaming Jax on a modded (by u4bik) Doll Chateau B body 07, white resin.
Moss: Do Dolls Dream- Miss Marionette- Lullabye Miss Ao, woodland echo resin.
Lorne: Little Rebel Sarang, caramel resin (?), on a dyed Dollstown 18 girl body.
Remy: Seed Arts Peabody on a Spiritdoll Smart girl body, ns (?).
Kulog: modded (by seed arts) Joydoll Lai on a Dollstown old 15 boy body, dyed tan.
Jameson: OOAK 3D printed custom Meeksdoll on a *heavily* modded (by milkweed_and_honeybjds) resinsoul sd boy body, dollstown 15 hands, so many colors and copious airbrushing.
Simon: Maskcat doll mini cat doll dyed orange.
Kit: Seed Arts Peabody on a Luts Kid Delf boy body, ns (?).
Jae-Seong: K Doll Khan (full doll!), ns (?).
Harlow: Little Rebel Noelle, caramel resin, on a dyed Doll Family H 62cm boy body (version 5).
"Mouseman:" Rumple doll Morfeo, ns (?), on a dyed Doll Family H 68cm boy body (version 2).
Bruce: Cocoriang Mocka, dyed black.
Damon: Meeksdoll Labellas Emerson, rich resin.
Sascha: Seed Arts Peabody, ooak tan from artist's personal collection, on a Dollzone B45-18 boy body, tan resin.
Bronwyn: Bonelace Miss Orc "Elf Head," fair resin.
Eko: Rugged Realism Rites of Passage Geneo, java resin.

Ok, I realized that I absolutely need a doll of a certain anthro cat named Mordecai Heller (from Lackadaisy, a webcomic/animated short). However, the anthro cat photo thread on DoA is full of broken images and old sculpts that are impossible to find anymore. Does anyone have sculpt recommendations that are more accessible, or know of a more recent or even just comprehensive list of cat anthros? I know pip0s pang might work for a chibi version but I really want a tall elegant doll in 1/3 or 1/4 scale. I'd likely be dyeing, so hybrids are not a problem. Please, I love this character and need to bring him home.
[The next confession in the inbox]
Hol-y SHIT. I know I just asked about anthro cat dolls but I should have Googled "anthro cat bjd" *before* making a post because pip0s raven is near PERFECT. Shame he's probably impossible to get now. I'll keep an eye out but if anyone still has anthro cat sculpt recommendations I'd still be happy to see them! I suppose I can use Raven as a reference for what I'm looking for if I can't find that particular sculpt. But DAMN, that is a good looking sculpt and near exactly what I was looking for. And I said no more new dolls...

Here we have a Luts Kid Delf Corni in real skin white. I was given a lot of freedom with this girl, and had a lot of fun painting her. She is lightly modded, the gap above her lower lip was filled in by me by the request of the client.
Tumblr media
She'd come with her default faceup, which I wiped for the client.
She's one of the rare dolls I got sent an owner picture of!

Heya! You seem like the main authority on bjd I know of, so I figured you might be the person to ask...
Does anyone in the community have any good resources for making/sculpting your own doll? I've had a specific dragon in my mind for years now, but (dragons not being popular for some reason and the main makers having all but vanished), there aren't many places to look. None of the offered models were quite what I wanted, either—mine wasn't a feral dragon, quite, but not as on the humanoid side as most dragon anthros are. So I figured I'd try making one, though I have little idea where to start on that. I know a bit of 3d modeling, but not actual sculpting with my hands, so is casting off a good printed model a thing? Are there any resources for what kind of joints would be needed, especially when working with a non-human doll like a dragon tail or wings? She's been a beloved oc for years now, so I wanted her doll to BE her and not a repaint of anything else, but usually my work sticks to digital media so I'm a little lost porting her to a physical object, lol
Anyway, hope you have an awesome day! Your collection of dolls is gorgeous and I love the work you've done on the customs you've shared here
Hey there! these are a lot of questions, lets see where to start... First off - don't (ever) let the hobby intimidate you into not doing what you want to do. Making your own doll is a huge task with a steep learning curve, especially when it comes to joints. As for resources in general, I unfortunately don't have any links at hand. There's the BJD Sculptors group on facebook, and I know that there are a few videos on youtube from doll people on how to make joints in blender and similar programs.
Casting from a 3D print is a thing, yes! You'll have to print, sand and prime the doll beforehand though, or go through a caster who does that for you (like FantasyDoll!). If you plan to make the doll only for yourself though, I wouldn't bother with casting; 3D printed dolls are a thing, as Frapzilla proved (or Eve the cat studio, or Elleodolls..).
There is no 'you need this joint' guide on 4-(or more) legged dolls. Most, if not all joints are basically a sphere in a concave space; it really depends on the design and the kind of movement you want that determines the final shape. Maybe take a look at Dreamvalleys Dragons?
I absolutely recommend sketching out the full doll first to get a feel for proportions before diving into sculpting/jointing. Otherwise you'll have to adjust things later on, and while that's not that annoying in 3D, it's an absolute pain with real sculpting... speaking from experience here x.x I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions :)
