a large pine tree protected you from the harsh winter, leaving your seats dry as could be. layers upon layers of chilled colorless cotton covered the grass before you two.

you sat next to a boy that had the stars written in his skin. he hunched over a family of mice: two small mice and a larger one.

you hid together, running away from the world as always.

you watched your friend. your knees curled into your chest and your eyelids hung over your tired eyes. the cold hammered the urge to cough against your ribs but you refused.

your friend's cold fingers were the only thing peaking out of his school robes that engulfed him. he used his trembling bones to scoot the apple slices he had brought towards the family, silently encouraging the tiny nibbles.

your eyes drifted to the white landscape surrounding you. you sighed, and brought yourself to your feet. the brown sweater that covered your school clothes hardly did enough to keep you warm, but you disregarded that.

the crystals crunched under your feet as you made your way through frozen field. snow slowly fell from the clouds. they mixed with the color of your hair. a smile painted your lips dry in the stabbing cold as you twirled, eventually falling in the soft bed of ice.

the boy you had abandoned under the tree with the mice and stars had been watching you dance under the clouded day. he gnawed on his lip before standing and making his way over to you.

the mice ran off, carrying a single apple slice with them.

he followed the footsteps that you left in the sea of white. once he arrived, he came to find you smiling up at him as you rubbed your hands and legs over the snow.

"what are you doing?" the lighter haired boy nearly whispered, not wanting to completely disturb the silence of the loud world.

"i'm making a snow angel," you continued smiling from the ground.

"a what?"

"a snow angel! do wizards not have that?"

the only response you received was a furrowed brow of confusion.

"come on," you dragged the lighter haired boy down next to you.

a chilled huff escaped the fallen's lips. the visible air exploded into the clouds.

"now, it's really quite simple. you just spread your arms - like this! then you move them up and down,"

your friend participated.

"then, you move your legs out real wide and move them side to side,"

he participated once more.

"than you've done it! a snow angel!"

the starry skinned boy furrowed his eyebrows in focus. he bite his lip and moved his arms once, then legs once, then arms once more, then legs again.

"can you-" you sat up, fighting the urge to laugh at your friend. "is it difficult to do both?"

the lighter haired boy only nodded, still trying his best to participate in the new activity.

"that's alright, it's enough, anyway. come on, step up!" you ushered. you stood together, side by side, looking down at your angels that laid so close they nearly held each other.

"and ta-da! you have a wonderful little angel that you've made." your grin was stupidly big.

a smile pulled at the corner of the starry boy's lips as well.

you made a beeline for your destination during lunch one winters day. christmas and new years had gone and passed. now, the most important day to you was coming up: your starry skinned friend's birthday.

you pushed the heavy doors to the transfiguration classroom open with ease, but hastily shut them soon after. the professor of the class quietly sat at his desk, quill in hand hovering over a parchment filled with notes.

"ah yes," the older man grumbled. "please do come in." the sarcasm weaved it's way through every syllable but you refused to acknowledge it.

"professor, please, this is no time for jokes."

the older gentleman sighed, placing his quill down gently on the desk. ink dripped quietly off of the sharp tip. "what is it?" despite his appeared annoyance, the professor uttered your name with expectance.

"so," you began pacing in front of the professors desk as you spoke. "as you know, a peer's birthday is coming up rather soon."

the professor sighed once more, but an amused smile played at the lips between his thick beard.

"well, i've finally come up with the perfect gift after all this time!"

"go on then,"

"i want to give him a memory."

"that's - alright, how are you going to do that?" the professor suppressed his laughter at the thought of his student, who has never been the most studious, attempting something as complex as any spell that has to do with a memory, or even enchantment.

"that's a good question, now, isn't it?"

"are you going to give him a pendant or something?"

"oh, now that's smart!"

the professor rolled his eyes at your lack of thorough thought. "you know, that's very advanced magic."

"i'm well aware. but, that's where my helpful, caring professor can come in and teach me!" you flashed a large, pleading smile at the older man who only sighed in response.

he eyed you up and down, "are you sure you want to do that? after everything-," the professor began to voice his worries over you: a student that he has taken under his wing to a personal level.

the smile on your face fell rather quickly at the words. "it's for newt, i can get over myself for him." your immediate tone change had the professor internally scolding himself. "will you help me or not? i can always go ask-,"

"no, i'll help you. if you're going to learn it you might as well learn it from someone who actually knows what they're doing." the professor stood with a grunt, mentally preparing for the hours of after school lessons he was committing to.

"great! that's lovely, professor, thank you so much!" you practically shook with excitement, running out of the door in a hurry before the man could take back his promises.

you two curled up together on the top bed of your shared bunk under a blanket: your bed.

candles littered their desks, causing the room outside of your blanket haven to glow a warm orange.

pools of wax surrounded the candles on your desk. the warm wax leaked onto the many papers of homework that you would later see and simply roll your eyes over.

newt, however, kept his candles in their holders or settled in small bowls. the wax dripped down and collected neatly all together, far from any papers or books.

under the blanket, newt held his wand similar to a quill. instead of ink, light dripped out. the light washed over the page and splashed onto your giggling faces.

the soft chiming of a clock sliced through the quiet laughter, immediately sparking your memory. you let out a soft, but extremely excited, "oh!"

you hurried from under the covers, newt slowly following after you.

you dug through the pockets of your school robes hanging over a chair muttering and cursing to yourself about where "it" could possibly have gone. a small breath of relief escaped the passages of your nose as you felt the tiny felt box in the midst of your pockets filled with nonsense.

you turned around shoving a small box into newt's hands. "happy birthday," you whispered. your eyes struggled to look anywhere but the single stripe on his sleep shirt.

a gentle smile played over your lips, though. one that enchanted newt and kept him staring for longer than he needed to. "y-you really didn't need to," he stuttered, finally taking the box from your hands.

"i wanted to." despite your appearance, your heart bounced against your ribs as loud as a it physically could.

newt hands shook lightly as opened the cream box with a gold ribbon around it to reveal a metal pendant that looked to have been poorly bent in the shape of a heart. it hung off of a small chain to make a necklace.

"what's this?" he tugged the necklace out of the box, inspecting the hand made heart.

"here," your voice shook as you gently took the necklace into your hands, pulling the heart in half to reveal the projected memory you had spent weeks working with your professor to get in to the pendant (that you also made and bent all by yourself. you were very proud of the funky heart).

"you've enchanted it," newt whispered under his breath, bewildered at the sight.

he watched the memory play out before him: one that had been pushed to the back of his mind but was revitalized as soon as he saw the familiar sight.

it was the your first trip to hogsmeade together. the day newt showed you everything and anything there was to show about the enchanting town he had been raised to know. the town itself didn't affect him much at all anymore, but he knew you'd find it absolutely stunning. he was so excited to introduce you to the magical world when you two were little.

you sipped on your butterbeers together. you loved the overly sweet drink, and newt made a face at the sugar that bit at his teeth. newt offered his drink to you with a frown at the taste. one that you laughed at, eventually pulling a laugh out from newt.

"did you do it?" newt's voice could hardly be heard. the fear of disturbing the silence ached within him.

"hm?" you hummed equally as quiet.

"did you learn the spell?"

"'course i did." you replied as if it were nothing, but newt was well aware of how it was a big something. "is it-, do you like it?" your whisper was shockingly shy and insecure. a rare vulnerability that newt understood he was privileged to hear.

"yes! i-i love it," newt's hasty response cut through the comforting silence between you two. but you only smiled.

"here, let me put it on,"

newt stood still while you raised yourself on your toes to reach around the tall boy's shoulders to his neck. newt, very aware of the proximity between the two of you, looked down at the quickly dying candles that were providing the only light in the room.

you leaned back down onto your heels, "there." you played with the pendant over his chest between your fingers, finally letting it fall against his clothes.

"t-thank you," newt stuttered your name, struggling to get anything more than a mutter our.

you smiled.

and the candles finally went out.

random facts about myself because this is my blog anyways: ♡ when i was 8 my pinky finger was unfortunately cut a third, like the tip of it yk, by a door that slammed really fast because of a storm at that time, and my cut off finger was joined by inserting a rod in it. the rod is taken out but now i have a funny pinky finger that does not bend. ♡ i am multilingual, aka i can speak marathi, hindi, english, spanish (i cant get the accent right but rest is okay) and korean (beginner level, just enough that i can understand kdramas mostly without subtitles). ♡ i have a fear of heights despite that i am unusually interested in roller coasters and bungee jumping, however my parents refuse to take me to any of these because i will "fall". ♡ my mother is scared shitless of water, so i once made a joke of how i would love to drown in the ocean and was immediately enrolled in a swimming class and that is how my dreams of dying among the phytoplankton and starfishes were destroyed. ♡ i love all types of fruits but banana tastes boring to me now and i also do not like watermelon for some reason. mango, kiwis, muskmelon, apples, oranges, and pineapple are my absolute fav. ♡ i used to have waist-length hair, very wavy and very thick, it was gorgeous but i hated having to maintain that so i cut it off and got a boycut. after that it has grown to a small dora the explorer length hair and it makes me look really innocent so i like this look.

BIOGRAPHY (tw death mention)

The only thing Archie really knew was Huntsville, for he’d spent his whole life there. Having never known his father, he and his brother were raised by their single mother, who worked two jobs to try and support them.

There was a lot of love in that apartment, though, and maybe that was what mattered. They didn’t need fancy things to be okay, nor to be happy. And Archie was happy.

He wasn’t really popular in school, more of a nerd who would walk around with his comic books and game boy rather than play sports.

All in all, he was a good kid. Good at school but also just a good person at heart. His mother was proud of him, proud of both her boys. She would say how she couldn’t wait to see what the future held for them.

Unfortunately, the future turned out to be a little bleaker than they’d imagined. Things were good until they weren’t. Everything changed when the Fire Nation ghosts attacked, flipping people’s lives upside down.

Many people lost their loves during the first attacks, before people understood how to deal with it. And Archie’s mom and brother were some of the casualties. He can still remember the screams.

Archie had tried to block it out because it had been a very traumatic time. But it’s still there, lingering in his mind. Other people in that town could relate too, for he wasn’t the only one who’d lost people.

Nonetheless, he’s continued being a positive person, or trying to be. Taking it one day at a time, knowing that sulking won’t help anything.

He’s worked a few jobs here and there in Huntsville, but has been working at the Food Market as a cashier for a few years.

By the time Rita had received her letter to Hogwarts she had already read biographies or articles of most of the professors and had researched as much as she could about the school, in order to ensure where she stood with faculty. She saw Hogwarts as an opportunity to finally practise her journalism skills on stories that slipped from the mouths of the students. Rita was sorted into Ravenclaw instantly, without hesitation, she began to sort through her fellow Ravenclaw students, unafraid of hurting feelings or causing disgruntlement as she searched for friends she deemed tasteful. EMMA SQUIGGLE [rival/former best friend/colleague] and ADRIAN CAVERLY [best friend/colleague] quickly became her closest friends, whilst DAISY HOOKUM [close friend/colleague], GILDEROY LOCKHART [colleauge/close friend] and XENOPHILLIUS LOVEGOOD [friend] quickly became good friends she enjoyed chatting news stories with. In her fourth year, Rita began The Hogwarts Gazette, under the careful gaze of Professor McGonagall, hiring herself as the newspaper's editor. 

The paper published a variety of articles focusing on school political issues, sports coverage, a gossip column and a fashion section. With a knack for finding things out and a clever way of spinning a tale, Rita ran the gossip column and had developed quite the habit of uncovering other’s dirty laundry and leaving it to dry for everyone to see. This, of course, did not sit well with everyone and Rita gained a negative reputation amongst her fellow students as someone to be wary of. The boys in her year group, HARRISON BAGNOLD [acquaintance/person of interest], KALEB JOHNSON [acquaintance], ELEZAR SMITH [acquaintance/person of interest], MICHAEL THOMAS [acquaintance] and CRISTIANO PARKINSON [acquaintance] were not her biggest fans, whilst younger students PETER PETTIGREW [person of interest], JAMES POTTER [person of interest], REMUS LUPIN [person of interest] and SIRIUS BLACK [person of interest] also found her constant prying into their personal lives just as invasive. Other people saw the light and wanted her on side.

Rita found she enjoyed the power of being feared and appeased by the likes of ANDRESSA PARKINSON [friend], ISOLDE CROUCH [friend], LUCILLE JONES [friend], FLORENCE JONES [friend] and BERTHA JORKINS [close friend]. By her seventh year, she was able to transform into a beetle and with this, was able to listen into many more conversations. She also learned that with a seductive smile and a wink here and there she could get anyone to tell her just about anything. Thanks to her continuous summer internships at Witch Weekly, through her mother’s connections and a good word here and there from her father, Rita eventually landed a job at The Daily Prophet as an intern. Peeking through her father’s files and transforming herself into a beatle to access events, meant that she began to get one scoop after the other. It was a lot of hard work, long hours and the lack of a social life but eventually Rita was awarded her own column and Rita Skeeter’s Scandal Sheets was born. At just twenty-five she was something of a prodigy, a major celebrity everyone loved and feared. 

Having similar interests, most of Rita’s friends at the paper also established themselves at The Daily Prophet, becoming fantastic journalists and photographers in their own right. But not everyone was happy about her success. Emma had been like a sister to Rita, her best friend- she trusted her with everything. With an absent family at home, Emma was her family, which made their falling out all the more harder. As Rita rose to fame, she watched as Emma tried to wriggle out of her shadow, Rita had never thought of Emma as in her shadow- though she could see why others would think so. The conversations became more brief, she noticed as her expression soured and then at a party that was held in celebration of her new column, Rita watched as Emma kissed the man she’d been seeing, AUGUSTUS ROOKWOOD [former romantic liaison] and disappeared out the door. Rita would never let anyone know how much it hurt her. She cried in private, winged her eyeliner and wore a brave face for work. It stung harder when Emma and Augustus made things official, but she’d never let it show. Rita had her column and her fame and not even Emma could take that from her. 

The disappearances and the eventual murders of BOOKER BAGNOLD [person of interest] and AMELIA BONES [person of interest] were more than just tabloid gossip. Rita was desperate to figure out who was behind the murders. The werewolf angle didn’t fit, so under the guise of her column, Rita attended exclusive events trying to find out information. A face in the crowd that had changed after the death of Booker. Harrison Bagnold and his girlfriend ROSALINE DAVIS [person of interest] had a knack for being around everyone who went missing, though it could just be coincidence. Alongside her photographer BENEDICT MISSLETHORPE [colleague], Rita has been following him to various events, including the most recent wedding of her former adversary GENEVIEVE AVERY-WILKES [adversary/person of interest]. Rita didn’t expect Genevieve’s husband to drop down dead at the wedding and divert her focus, although Rita is exploring the story on the killer bride, Rita has not yet exhausted the idea Harrison is in some way connected to what’s happened, and she is determined to get to the bottom of it before anyone else. Especially Emma.

Imo, there’s a real deficit of male characters to ship with Harry and considering that he’s clearly bisexual, that just won’t do.

And then I heard about Rolf Scamander’s initial involvement in the plot of Deathly Hallows. Some people theorise that he fulfilled what was eventually Xenophilius’s role, ie, telling the trio about the Hallows.

So… he’s an eligible bachelor (sorry Luna! I just headcanon you as aroace like me), he’s got a cool wolf-coded name… Imo, he must’ve been older than the trio and personally I think it makes sense for Harry to date someone with a slight age gap? It just seems like something he’d do. Anyways, I imagine him as being both very serious and very whimsical, adventure-seeking, compassionate, principled…

So let’s all collectively agree to retroactively put him in the Malfoy Manor dungeons and have him join the trio while robbing Gringotts. I feel like Rolf helps him bury Dobby and this earns him a kind of awkward soft spot. Then he like leads the dragon to safety… etc etc. He shows up at the Battle of Hogwarts. Kicks ass etc etc.

Then, after everything goes down, Harry and Ginny’s relationship collapses (huzzah! Sorry Hinny shippers) and Romione conviently piss off to Australia, Harry finds himself escaping away with Rolf.

Just picture the pleasant surprise for Portrait Albus Dumbledore! I hate Fantastic Beasts and imo that Newt Scamander was just a lazy combination of Harry and Hagrid, but I do imagine Newt as being one of Dumbledore’s favourites, just beneath Minerva and above idk Alastor Moody?

I just think that a name like Rolf Scamander should be put to good use and I want Harry to have a boyfriend that he doesn’t have to leave in the past!

That's a pretty neat idea! I have to commend you for doing something with one of the many characters that JKR kind of pulled out of nowhere to ship with her most prominent canon characters (Draco, Luna, etc.). Not that the fandom isn't guilty of that sin too. (hi, Daphne Greengrass!)

Hard agree that Harry is bisexual (his lack of real chemistry with Ginny doesn't make him immune to women imo), hard agree that he needs to be shipped with more of his contemporaries besides Draco and time-travel!Tom (Ron, Neville, Cedric, Dean and Seamus are all right there), hard agree that h*nny doesn't work at all, annnd hard agree that Albus probably had a soft spot for Newt Scamander back in the day... but so do I! BIO

   The story of his childhood is a slightly complicated and hidden one. Born to a no-maj woman who had no idea that magic was real he was raised just like one until he was eight years old. His mother suddenly fell ill and her state kept worsening with time, as she was unable to look after her son, young Percival was put in the foster system. There he was one day discovered by a wizard couple who began noticing the oddities that happened around the boy. Believing that he was a wizard they adopted him and took him in. Sure enough, when Percival turned 11, his letter from Ilvermony arrived.

   His parents had taught him about how prejudiced the magic community was against no-majs and anyone who was different. Percival took this to heart and the secret of his real parentage was exactly that, a secret that his mother who laid in a coma could never reveal and one his new parents promised to keep. He attended Ilvermony, earning top marks across his classes and exceeding expectations.

   After graduation he applied to become an auror, fulfilling his training and getting accepted. When the first war arrived to America, the ministry sent a group of them to fight, amongst them Percival.

   Upon his return and a few more years of hard work, when Seraphina ascended to the position of President in MACUSA, Graves obtained a promotion. Having worked closely together they trusted each other, thus he became her right hand man as director of Magical Security. But in 1926 as he fell into one of Grindewald’s traps. He fought his hardest but was overpowered and captured. Stashed far away and where no one would be able to find him, Gellert kept him alive as he needed him to use polyjuice potion and masquerade as him.

   Gellert’s tricks were sucessful as no one in MACUSA realized that Percival had been gone and replaced by the dark wizard they had been hunting all along until Newt Scamander came along.

I belive the fundermental flaw in this paper is to assume that there ARE straight, cis and allo wizards.

Magic is and always had been a code for queerness (eg. Merlin (bbc), the mcu (Loki, scarlet witch, doctor strange...), Greek myths (the gods and their decendents being gay), any Disney movie ever(sleeping beauty, snow white, aladin).

So, based on this thesis, we would have to assume that everyone in Hogwarts is queer and there is more than enough evidence for this.

On the Origin of Gayness – Are All Gryffindors Actually Gay?

Abstract

This paper examines the question of Homosexuality in the Gryffindor House, drawing from previous research as well as collected samples and interviews with several acclaimed marauders scholars, using mixed methods. Much uncertainty still exists around the relationship between Gayness and Gryffindor, so in this paper I will once again commit to the bit and evaluate scientific scholarship on tumbler dot com for your education and entertainment.

Introduction

This research was prompted by my esteemed colleague and collaborator @lynxindisguise who revolutionised the scientific community by asking “what if gryffindor is just where you go if you’re gay [?]” (lynxindisguise 2024), daring scholars to “name a straight gryffindor” (ibid). Several highly esteemed scholars such as @plecotusauritus (2024) and @kaleidoscopexsighs (2024) agree with lynxindisguise on her thesis, @werewolfenthusiast (2024) even went so far as to comment that this "would explain a lot" while acclaimed marauders scholar @spindrifters is asking lynxindisguise to “pls”, not elaborating further what they want lynxindisguise to “pls” do, leaving the reader with more questions that this paper hopes to answer.

This paper systematically reviews the data gathered from the popular blogging website tumblr.com on this topic, aiming to provide more insight and clarity on the question of what I have coined “Gryffindor Gayness”.

The overall structure of the paper takes the form of two parts: the main part is 1 The Gryffindor Ideology, Theses on Gryffindor, focusing on the question of Gryffindor Gayness, providing an in-depth analysis and discussion of Gryffindor Gayness. Part 2 Can the Slytherins be Gay? can be seen as a call to action for other Hogwartian Sexuality scholars to consider doing research in this promising field.

1. The Gryffindor Ideology, Theses on Gryffindor

1.1 The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Gryffindor

This section of the paper aims to give a quick overview of the history of Gryffindor Gayness. The term “Gryffindor” tends to be used almost synonymous with “Serving Cunt”, which can be seen as synonymous for “Gay”.

To answer the question “What the hell is a Gryffindor?”, readers are encouraged to also familiarize themselves with previous works on this topic (cf. The Sorting Hat 1997, 2000, 2003; The Scarf of Sexual Preference 2009, 2010, 2012).

The Sorting Hat, leading expert in all things Gryffindor, has done extensive research in various closets, stating “I’m the Hogwarts Sorting Hat, And I can cap them all” (The Sorting Hat 1997), and “You might belong in Gryffindor, Where dwell the brave at heart, Their daring, nerve and chivalry, Set Gryffindors apart” (ibid).

To fully understand this, additional context of the song is important to note: whenever the Sorting Hat says brave or chivalrous, or daring, most scholars agree that these can be read as synonyms for “gay”, “homosexual” and “serving cunt” respectively. With this alternative reading of the Sorting Hat’s song, Gryffindor Gayness starts to make more sense, but in their later work, the Sorting Hat elaborates more on this, referring to Godric Gryffindor as “the bravest [the gayest]” (The Sorting Hat 2000).

@wanderingdonut (2024), a certified expert on vibes of all stripes shared insightful and important scholarship on the inherently homosexual symbolism of swords, and was the first scholar to draw the connection between the sword of Godric Gryffindor and Homosexuality, stating:

“as everyone knows, swords are the gayest accessory (the point is designed to penetrate? Please. And we all know everyone is gay for a woman with a sword), so really, it was godric who set everyone up for gayness.”

Further proving that Homosexuality has been connected to the House of Gryffindor from the beginning, as was intended by its founder. Wanderingdonut (2024) then goes on to say:

“There is nothing gayer than being bonked on the head with gayness at a deeply inconvenient time and Godric wants that for all his children”,

again stating explicit intent of homosexuality by the founding daddy of Gryffindor house, Godric Gryffindor.

Marauders scholar @fruityindividual also indirectly refers to Godric Gryffindor’s intentional mandate of homosexuality by describing the accommodations for Gryffindor students as having “cosy beds” and forcing proximity, thus leading to Gryffindor Gayness.

1.2 Gryffindor Trouble: Gayness and the Subversion of Identity

In this chapter I will give some examples for Gryffindor Gayness, illustrating why the initial assumption that all Gryffindors are Gay (cf. lynxindisguise 2024) is such an important, one could almost say revolutionary addition to this field of science.

1.2.1 The Weasley Family

The Weasley Family are one of the most prominent Gay/Gryffindor families, making them ideal subjects for this study.

Molly and Arthur Weasley have both been known to be into swinging, often asking couples to be their third and using rubber ducks in many creative ways, setting a good example for their many gay children (cf. polaroidcats 2024).

Fred and George Weasley are both known to have dated Lee Jordan at the same time, “Lee thought he was only dating one of them but forgot which one and was not brave enough to ask” (polaroidcats 2024), which makes Fred and George both perfect examples of that mischievous flavor of Gryffindor Gayness the Weasley family seems to be known for.

However one of the most prominent examples for Gryffindor Gayness in the Weasley family is the youngest child, Ginevra (“Ginny”) Weasley.

Wanderingdonut (2024) claims that “everyone is gay for a woman with a sword. Particularly if it’s Ginny Weasley with a sword”, calling her a “lesbian queen”. Similarly, plecotusauritus (2024) states that “Ginny had a new girlfriend every two weeks but it never got mentioned since it wasnt [sic!] important part of Harry's journey”, introducing not only Ginny’s tendency to fall into her parents’ promisingly promiscuous footsteps, but also highlighting an important aspect of her relationship with Harry James Potter.

@kaaaaaaarf (2024) elaborates further on this idea of compulsory heteronormativity in relation to Ginny’s relationships:

“That girl [Ginny] is a lesbian and I will not be convinced otherwise. I think half the reason her and Harry were drawn to each other is because they recognized (even subconciously) that the other gave off queer vibes, and therefore was a safe person to be with in a heteronormative society. I truly believe that eventually she met a woman and fell in love”

The Homosexuality of the Weasley family is well-documented and widely accepted among scholars of the field. One more example for this can be found in the next section of this paper, discussing the compulsory heteronormative tendencies of certain Gryffindors.

1.2.2 The Golden Trio and Compulsory Heteronormativity

In this section I will explore the parallels between Harry and Ginny’s relationship and Hermione and Ron’s relationship that I have found in my research.

Plecotusauritus (2024) raises the point of “Ron having a major crush on Krum” and elaborates that Ron eventually decides “that he was actually jealous of Hermione and not Krum, and commiting to the bit so hard they end up married (but will eventually find a way for them both to act on their queer tendencies)”, bringing up the idea of compulsory heteronormativity.

This sentiment is mirrored in kaaaaaaarf’s (2024) description of Harry and Ginny’s relationship, where the scholar states that “when [Ginny] finally talked to Harry about it [falling in love with a woman] he wasn't really upset at all. This sent him on his own spiral, realizing that he might not be as straight as he thought he was...”

When asked about favorite Gay Gryffindor moments, scholar lynxindisguise (2024) replied with: “harry being unable to talk about cedric or sirius without mentioning them handsoming [sic!] handsomely down the stairs”.

Likewise, the scholar kaaaaaaarf (2024) replied to the same question as follows:

“I think every time Harry made some sort of comment about how attractive other men were/his obsession with Draco. No straight person is that obsessed with their same sex arch enemy, I'm sorry.”

Scholar @greengrug (2024) also refers to Harry’s obsession with Draco Malfoy, stating that he “takes a permanent residence in the love-to-hate you part of the brain. Two powerful emotions combined to create an unwavering obsession that can't be forgotten.”

Greengrug (ibid) also points out the inherent heteronormativity of the love triangle between Harry James Potter, Cho Chang and Cedric Diggory, elaborating on Harry’s feelings of jealousy and mourning leading him to participate in the classic comphet ritual of kissing your dead lover’s ex girlfriend next to his picture:

“Harry is jealous of Cho being with Cedric! Why else would he kiss her next to his picture next year? Anyone else can see how horridly inappropriate that is. Clearly only a mourning gryffingay could be driven to that point.” (ibid).

1.2.3 The Marauders

Before evaluating the individual Gayness of each member of the friend group known as “the Marauders” (see also my previous work on their crying practises, polaroidcats 2023), a common thread in the gayness of all four members is, as marauders scholar fruityindividual puts it “the scantily-clad special alone times in the sheesh shed”, raising the important question of where the wizard’s clothes go when they change from their animagus form back to their human forms, an area that has been overlooked by science thus far. There is little to be known about it, but it can be assumed that most time any of the marauders has spent in the “sheesh shed”, as the expert calls it, must have been spent naked. Further research on this topic is encouraged. 

1.2.3.1 Sirius Black

The added context of Gryffindor Gayness allows for a much more interesting reading of Sirius Black being sorted into Gryffindor. Acclaimed Sirius Black expert plecotusauritus (2024) states that “deep down his [Sirius’] parents knew that this might happen. It was still bit of a shock to this notably straight family.”, referencing the Black family tradition of Slytherin Super Straightness.

1.2.3.2 Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin is one of the most interesting examples for Gryffindor Gayness, proving simultaneously that being Gay is and is not a choice. According to lynxindisguise (2024), Remus “chose gryffindor because he immediately fell in love with sirius on the train and then felt bad when he saw him get sorted into gryffindor and look scared”, proving that being gay is a choice. In my own previous research, I have stated that “Neville’s first crush was Remus Lupin” (polaroidcats 2024), to which spindrifters (2024) has since added the important addition that “remus lupin was also dean thomas's gay awakening”, stating that “there is canon evidence for this across like 3 books”, proving once and for all that being gay is not a choice.

1.2.3.3 James Potter

James Potter is another fascinating example of Gryffindor Gayness, because he was in what the scholars call a “bi4bi” relationship with Lily Evans, another Gryffindor Gay, proving that Gryffindor Gayness is inclusive of Bisexuality and possibly also other queer sexualities. Further research on this topic would be necessary to find a definitive list of sexual orientations that can be subsumed under Gryffindor Gayness, but James Potter and Lily Evans are probably most if not all of them at the same time.

1.2.3.4 Peter Pettigrew

Peter Pettigrew is still the nastiest skank bitch I have ever met, I do not trust him and he is a fugly slut. He was also in love with James and fandom would be all over that Gryffindor Gayness if Peter hadn’t been portrayed as unattractive, but that is a different topic for another paper.

1.3 Gryffindor Realism

This chapter illustrated different examples of Gryffindor Gayness across various generations and genders. There are countless more examples that I encourage scholars to explore. One could argue that there are also straight Gryffindors, but one would be wrong, all Gryffindors are gay. The last section of this paper examines the question of why some non-Gryffindors are also (seemingly) gay and provides further questions for future researchers to consider.

2. Can the Slytherins Be Gay?

The question of why there are also non-Gryffindors who are gay can be answered by referring readers to section 1.2.2 The Golden Trio and Compulsory Heteronormativity. Children are sorted into these houses at eleven years old, so some children might develop their Homosexual tendencies only later in life, or they might try and hide them from the sorting hat. Black family scholar plecotusauritus (2024) also raises the important point of Bellatrix Lestrange (née Black) threatening the Sorting Hat so bad that she got sorted into Slytherin instead of Gryffindor.

3 Conclusion

Previous studies of Hogwartian Sexualities have failed to identify the precise reasoning for students of other houses also showing signs of Gayness. In this article I hope to help close that research gap by focusing on Gryffindor Gayness, but further research into Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw Sexualities would be necessary for a more systematic approach. With more time and funding, I hope to address these issues in future research.

Future research questions that could be asked include “Why was Gilderoy Lockhardt in Ravenclaw?”, “Who are the Slytherin Super Straights?” and “What the hell is a Hufflepuff?”.

The most obvious findings to emerge from this research project are the confirmation of Gryffindor Gayness in all members of the Weasley family, the Marauders and the Golden Trio, as well as other Gryffindors, and the exploration of compulsory heteronormativity as a possible explanation for Non-Gryffindor Gayness, as well as atypical Gryffindor behaviour. Considerably more work will need to be done to determine the precise circumstances of phenomena such as Slytherin Super Straights, Hufflepolyamory and Ravenclaw Aces, and I hope to be able to do research on these soon.

making her way into the world, indi already had plans laid out for her from her lovely, doting family. they were the scamanders, synonymous with magical creatures. however, indi fought it from the very beginning as she did with everything. but she fought with grace, not anger.

the young, bubbly child played in the yard and, at such a young age, created a garden her family could never have imagined -- and all with the tips of her fingers. her family banded together to create space for her to build her gardens to be sure that the creatures that roamed the countryside home never trampled them.

although her love came to plants, she had a way with the creatures but as she got older, she didn't want to admit she wanted anything to do with them. she wanted to be a different type of scamander, not a carbon copy. that's not to say she wasn't proud of all they accomplished, but she wanted to stand out like her grandmother, tina who had such a different work life as an auror. indi had always appreciated that about her. and her grandfather, newt, was legend. he was legend whether he liked it or not. he showered her with more love than she could handle. and her parents stood by watching their sweet indi grow into her own person -- a person they were proud and awed by. some might say the idyllic family that lived under one roof was perfect. they would be right.

when indi got her letter from higwarts she was conflicted. of course she wanted to go, wanted to learn, make friends and simply see the castle she had heard so much about. but that meant leaving her gardens, the creatures (damned things!) and, most importantly, her family. she didn't know who she was without the warm home she grew up in. she was scared. but her family reassured her that they would be some of the best years of her life. indi hoped they were right.

like her parents and newt, indi was sorted into hufflepuff and it wasn't a surprise that her area of study was herbology. as much as she hated to admit it, she did miss the creatures (damned things!). it was like they belonged in her gardens and deserved the snacks she grew. she wanted to be known for something other than creatures but there must've been something in her family's blood that drew them in.

indi started reading up on creatures more and more but in private, never telling anyone as she didn't want to be "that scamander". Perhaps she was fighting the inevitable but at night when she was in her room, plants surrounding her, she was calm and at ease. she didn't have to hide her genuine love of herbology. surely the two could go together in a comprehensive way without being too "scamander-ish".

the war has indi nervous. she doesn't like violence. she doesn't know how to deal with it -- even when the kids at school who picked on other kids, indi couldn't stand it. she doesn't feel brave enough to make a choice about what side of the war she should be on so she hasn't. she's stayed in the middle, pretending nothing is happening. indi is in denial.
