Gold bracelets dated 9th–10th centur, Constantinople, Turkey.

Each bracelet consists of twenty partitions that are framed by granular strips and are decorated with cloisonné enamel.

The partitions alternately depict birds pecking at leaves, palms and rosettes and are rendered in different colour variations.

yarn bracelet update! made a 1-2 normal pattern as a test

(please ignore my bad lighting, i’m lazy tonight)

best i can tell comparing it to my other 12-string normals, it’s a bit wider, but honestly not as much as i expected. no issues working with it, pretty much exactly the same as embroidery floss. main differences seem to be that the end result is softer, floppier, and stretchier, and that i might have had slightly more string left over than usual? not significant enough to make me change my measuring practices, but interesting.

i’m especially excited about the, hm, texture/structure change? one of the things i’ve wanted to experiment with is chokers, and the main thing stopping me was how stiff my bracelets can be and how the texture is…not the best. also, as i said before, not having enough of a particular color to make something long enough. i know others have done it, so it would probably work, but i think the yarn will go a lot better for me.

next i’m going to make a little alpha pattern—probably a keychain. besides just testing how the yarn behaves for alphas/seeing if color switching and thread weaving works okay, i also want to use a little embroidery floss in there too and see if i can make them work together.
