Unfortunately lower visual quality than I wanted be because Tumblr only allows 10 images so I smushed them into three canvases instead of two post. Anyway beta trolls Headcanon and some thoughts below the cut.

Aradia

Aradia is the design I probably have the most experience drawing of the beta trolls purely because of how many zines I’ve drawn her in the last year. I like thinking of her hair similar to Pinkie Pies’ in g4 of mlp, where it’s very curly bouncy in her alive and godtiered forms but straightens out more when she’s ghosting up the place and in Aradia-bot form. I didn’t realize until a recent zine I had been drawing her horns ways too low for comic accuracy but I am a creature of habit so I keep drawing them like that.

Tavros

I’ve grown to love this kid because of my recent reread but I do not like drawing them. Between the Mohawk and the long, straight horns, I don’t care to draw their most important traits so he unfortunately only gets drawn in these group drawings. As for the one ear being pierced, it’s kinda a reference to cow tags but also I think it just fits them.

Sollux

Sollux a pretty easy character to design. I just have to imagine a greasy nerd kid growing up too fast for him to put on weight, add his troll bits and voila. The snake bites are definitely a hold over from the humanstuck I made for him last year but I think it just kinda add to his whole vibe. The undershirt comes from someone who also sits in a hot-ass room most of my days and will wears a second layer so leaving the room won’t feel like stepping out into a frozen wasteland.

Karkat

Karkat for me has always been short and stout guy. Other than that most of his facial features are taken from me, being someone who also over exaggerates their faces and nearly always is squinting a little.

Nepeta

Between all my designs of Nepeta the only thing that ever changes with any consistency is her hair. Like giving her cleft lip scar because I gave it to my fan-descendent of her and it’s cute.

Kanaya

Like two months ago I saw a post on here saying give that girl a nose (in reference to Kanaya) and it was the single most true HC I have ever seen. I also like completely throw out any references I have of her when I draw her hair because I think she should have 1930’s waves and curls. I typically only have to draw the super simple eyes so the only thing I had to change was giving her actual eyes.

Terezi

Got pretty comic accurate but probably would erase some of the chin to imply she’s fat a little better if I wasn’t doing this more rigid style.

Vriska

Also pretty comic accurate with the exception of the snake bites which is probably because I don’t draw her a lot and I don’t think about her much enough looks wise to have any specific head canons.

Equius

Goodness his hair gave me a struggle, kept on looking like a balding metal head until I added the pushed back stuff. Also returned back to drawing pseudo animal ears by giving him horse ears only angle to better fit a humanoid head.

Gamzee

I hate their make-up but every thing else about drawing them is a dream; goat ears, not straight hair, simple horns, silly little guy. What more could I ask for.

Eridan

And I’m almost done but unfortunately this doofus is next and requires the most detailed bust even in canon. Due to drawing them in this year’s 413 countdown I know how I like styling their hair and fins so I basically just chop the hair up since this is suppose to be during comic hcs and then follow their canon and Pesterquest designs with a few added features and boom. I was drawing everyone with the dark grey lips but I forgot for Eridan so I’ll just say they use concealer on their lips.

Feferi

Yippee! Back to ignoring canon and just giving her the biggest eyes on account of her glasses and cute piercings. I originally based her fins off of lion fish fins but they’re definitely more based off of betta ventral fin now.

I legitimately have A LOT in mind on this specific topic, I think there are def specific characters, I'm like ALWAYS thinking about the purple bloods specifically with how heavy their coding is that even goes straight down to how they live.

The fuschias are (specifically Meenah/The Condense) are like literal caricatures of black woman. I feel how they are, specifically in behavior, isn't bad. But their behavior mixed with the fact their supposed to be the HIGHEST on the hemospectrum and ALSO described as FISH HITLER ???? It's like WEIRD???

Also if you look at the whole caste of Homestuck. The characters that are HEAVILY coded as black ( The Makara/and honestly purplebloods in general, Meenah/The Condense) are the most demonized and written as aggressors. YES, there are many aggressors in Homestuck that are mains but these characters actions are usually the ones that get highlighted most. (Honestly, ESPECIALLY the purples)

My idea of writing into these characters with more depth is to not put all of them in a good light but to just give them DEPTH, more depth then just "the aggressive black" that has always been a huge stereotype in general on black ppl as a whole.

I've had the makaras on my mind since I was a baby so I ALREADY have shit in my head for them, the fuschias are another story bc even tho I can think and understand their characters I haven't thought about all the plot holes I need to fill, I also don't remember too much in their story bc I never really paid too much attention to them except Feferi (still not as much as I do with the characters I'm super invested in)

I actually have a whole post for the GHB bc I'm honestly super tired of the common "EVIL MURDERER THAT CRAVES VIOLENCE AND IS PROBABLY A R*PIST" interpretation for The Grand Highblood, not too mention it feels weird now due to the explanation i gave already. Let's also not forget the fact that the Grand Highbloods abbreviation "GHB" is also a shortened term for a commonly used date rape drug 🤨

for karkat- so for the non-homestucks following me trolls dont do gender and sexuality in the same way humans do. theyre still somewhat sexually dimorphic, and there are canon trans trolls, but it's not as important to them and homosexuality just isn't a concept they have, romance regardless of gender is the norm. so i don't think karkat would really label himself. that all being said he is definitely queer in human terms, and probably in troll terms too given the polyamory and quadrant-blurring of our relationship. i also like transmasc karkat a lot but it's not like...a core hc to me.

jade (queerplatonic) is bi and some variety of arospec to me bc Green and i like her and it just makes sense to me. and shes a nonbinary girl! i like transfem jade a lot but i can see her either way. and i think she's definitely xenogender and has a little hoard of neopronouns, i should think abt specific ones. also not necessarily queer but i think shes a therian!!

The Scale Of Homestuck Classes

Based on Activity vs Passivity

Otherwise known as the thing no one can agree on and please Hussie just release the damn class personality test already.

In this scale we’ll flip the script on what is and isn’t Passive.

My guess? The order goes:

Lord -> Page -> Seer -> Sylph -> Rogue -> Mage -> Bard ->

Prince -> Maid -> Witch -> Thief -> Knight -> Heir -> Muse

Here’s why.

This scale is almost entirely based off of what Alt Calliope says in her internal fight with Jade in Hs2. Paraphrased it was: Witches are more similar to Muses than Sylphs.

And while, yes, this isn’t canon territory anymore. Andrew Hussie has some final say over distinct aspects of the new releases. IE: The name of Yiffany unfortunately. We may never know exactly what details are truer canon than others. That doesn’t mean we can’t still use them for theory crafting.

So moving on.

To start! Lords and Muses stand as our ‘official’ definition of their Activeness. Lords being most. Muses least. At least that’s one agreed upon sentiment in the community at large.

Making our scale go: Lords -> Sylphs -> Witches -> Muses

Considering what we know to be ‘Active’ behavior, this new scale makes no sense. So we have to reconsider what marks the distinction between Classes. Specifically what makes Sylphs more like Lords than Muses.

I suggest that it is a power scale. Those with more power and say over other classes go higher up on this scale. Power is a subjective ideal in this instance. And speaks more of the Classes ability to get others to serve their purposes, or in nicer words: their ability to get others to help them out.

This creates a precedent of leaders and the people that serve them.

Just for a placeholder and reference we have the

Pages. These guys are often referenced as one of the most powerful Classes. Second to presumably Muses as they are often put on the same side of Passivity. Except that isn’t how this scale works.

This Class knows little to no hands on methods. It is probably the most carried Class in all of Sburb, and if we weren’t setting the precedent of Lord being the most Active Class... I would put Page above Lord :T That said. It is hard to chose which Class gives to others as much as the Page asks of others. But just for how flimsy of a Class it is, it earns an honorary placeholder spot in the conversation as most Active Class under Lords. Gasp.

Then after that

I feel like the easiest way to understand Classes is to look at the Dancestors. Whose whole existences revolve around creating plotholes and making things needlessly complicated.

But either way, I found a pattern.

You have...

Gamzee and Cronus as Bards

Eridan and Kurloz as Princes

Flipped classes right?

Terezi and Kankri as Seers

Karkat and Latula as Knights

These four also flip, though much more subtle!

These 8 are true reversals. A lot of parallels can be drawn between these pairs of Classes and they stand on their own from the rest of the scale in this way.

It’s the other 16 that get ring rounded a bit :T

Tavros and Horuss as Pages

Nepeta and Rufioh as Rogues

Sollux and Meulin as Mages

Equius and Mituna as Heirs 

Each dancestor in the above lines gets lowered a rung below the og troll until you reach the end of the chart. Then it rounds back up with Horuss ending up higher up than Equius.

Kanaya and Aranea as Sylphs

Aradia and Porrim as Maids

Feferi and Damara as Witches

Vriska and Meenah as Thieves

Again we have the same occurrence with these ones between Vriska and Aranea. Everyone again gets lowered down the rung.

This pattern carries this theoretical scale so

After this point it is all basically up to personal taste. I have versions of this where if it weren’t for this pattern, I would have made Bards and Mages true opposites. These things can’t ever be 100% accurate.

Personally, I believe Heirs are true opposites to Pages. This sets more precedent to the pattern and sets Heirs as the most giving Class to counter balance the Page. Pretty fitting, all things considered. 

If Heirs are true opposites to Pages, then based on the pattern, Thieves end up being the true opposite to Sylphs. Shocking and appalling. Also if there weren’t so many damn magic parallels for Sylphs and Witches, this would have been obvious. 

Putting this together, we get:

Lord -> Page -> Sylph -> Thief -> Heir -> Muse

Understanding the rest takes a bit more liberty.

Before we can place the rest, we need to establish where the two pairs of true opposites go from the pattern. This is just a big personal opinion of mine.

Say I’m wrong. I just don’t believe that Bard and Prince are as extreme opposites as Seer and Knight. I also refuse to think that Knights are less giving than Thieves. If Knight gets put between Thief and Heir, then Seer gets placed between Page and Sylph. Then Bard and Prince are in the middle.

That’s how we get to:

Lord -> Page -> Seer -> Sylph -> Bard -> Prince -> Thief -> Knight -> Heir -> Muse

You’ll notice I keep Bard and Prince in the center of the scale for the rest of the time. This is purely because I find their differences to be so negligible that they make the most sense out of the true opposites to sit next to each other on the scale.

Bards lean Active by getting others to carry out their will and Princes lean Passive by setting their own destructive path. But either way, as Calliope says, they are still both destroyer classes at the end of the day. There isn’t much room in that definition for a different Class to go between them.

Then we can plug in the final four. Again if we believe the pattern and the order of opposites set by the Heir and Page. Then the Class above the other is more Active. You can go back and forth all day about which of these four is the most giving or who gets helped the most.

But idk if Hussie actually followed this pattern to make his own scale. And at this point? Why make it any more complicated than it already is damn.

So I just plugged the two from the first pair in as an Active pair and the other two opposites down as a Passive pair.

Making our final scale:

Lord -> Page -> Seer -> Sylph -> Rogue -> Mage -> Bard -> Prince -> Maid -> Witch -> Thief -> Knight -> Heir -> Muse

I also like that Mage and Bard still end up next to each other and so does Prince and Maid. These were other ‘true opposites’ that I had been playing with while theory crafting so it’s just pleasing that some things just work out.

Of course I know about it, I played it in your house for like, 2 hours on a summer day. And then your dad got us ice cream.

In any case, hell yeah, let’s go through this!

Classic Dress

There isn’t much to say about the classic dress aside from the fact that it’s a perfect edgy reimagination of this character. Alice is a teen here, so unlike the disney version her skirt is less poofy and the color of the dress is darker, the apron has bloodstains and alchemic symbols which I can’t talk about but that’s what the wiki is for, the boots have a bunch of belts because you can’t be goth without unnecessary details somewhere, and to added edge bonus the stockings are witch socks. The most important thing here is that this is the established shape of all the dresses and it fits her body-type perfectly.

Steamdress

Hell yeah, more belts! Excessive? Sure, but all of them are well placed and don’t break the cohesion of the outfit. Even the one that divides her breasts looks cool, though only because it’s not oversexualized even though the corset, the belts on her shoulders, collar, and vertical stripes are all there to pronounce her chest. This outfit is also a lot more... orderly, for lack of a better word, the skirt is a bit poofier but its edges are trimmed, the apron has a rounded, closed shape, and all the belts and rings divide her body in anatomical symmetry. And of course, how could we forget the awesome winding key ribbon? Truly, this is steampunk goth expression at it’s finest.

The Feferi Dress

Yeah, I know it’s called Siren, but it’s The Feferi Dress, period. Oh how I preen for this color combination, the degradé of the scales, the pearls that could be either bubbles or jellyfish tentacles, the shell-shaped apron and neckline. And the fishbones as the ribbon? *chef’s kiss* The only think I’m not a 100 % behind is the algae necklace, since it looks more like a neckline collar to me, but it’s a minor thing. I think a string of pearls woud have worked better.

The Silk Maiden

Aw, hell yeah, this is what I’m talking about babey!!!! I genuinely wish I could show this dress to an actual victorian person, because I think it marries the concepts of the victorian and asian fashion so efficiently, although I know that it’s probably breaking a bunch of chinese fashion rules, since I don’t think cheongsams were ever worn with obi’s, much less ribbons that big. It’s not really my place to say though, so if I have any followers that actually know this stuff please feel free to add to this. In any case, this is my favorite dress, along the Feferi one, because I find it’s aesthetic so clever and pretty, I get that it’s called the silkmaiden because of the chinese silk, but to me the apron brings more the idea of a china tea set and I love it. I do think however that some other footwear would have completed the outfit even further, but it still looks good.

The Royal Suit:

(hahaha, that’s a great pun) Pretty classical merge of the two outfits of the characters, but I’m still impressed with the apron and especially the gloves. The only thing I would have changed is giving the boots some golden accent, but that’s a nitpick. Maybe I would have also changed the stockings from rings to diamonds.

The Misstiched

Technically the “ugliest” one, but that’s its purpose. The ugly plaid does provide a nice balance to the overly poppy pastel coloring, and it also gives some nice poof to the skirt, which I always appreciate. Not sure how I feel about the stockings and boots here. They don’t look bad, but it gives me the feeling like this is a dress she put on quickly as a disguise because they don’t quite fit with the rest of the outfit, even with the plaid. Which is still perfectly fine, not fitting is the whole theme of this look, I’m just not sure if that specific image I described is what they were looking for.

So we’re gonna try looking for the others, since my hopes are soaring; I’ve been kin with Roxy Strider (Dave-swapped) for so long and didn’t think I’d ever find anyone from my timeline. Guess patience always pays out? Who knows.

Anyways! Details under the cut about our common memories and then my personal memories. 

(Please note, I am 23. Dirk is 16. If you have problems with interacting with an adult, DNI. We are both 100% okay talking with whoever. Dirk is also Dirk Lalonde, Rose-swapped, so our swaps follow that formatting.)

Memories Dirk and I Share

- I most definitely died. - It’s probable I came back to life (so we think there was a life player somewhere). - It’s probable we exchanged gifts (this is more personable to us, but Dirk gave me a black plush cat made out of soft/fine fake furs?, and I gave him a ribbon on his left wrist, dyed orange and pinks in gradient as a reminder of me/us. - It’s Highly Likely we painted our nails, but if this was in person or over tech is TBD; if you remember seeing us doing this, don’t worry; it likely happened when we were in person too. The question is when Dirk remembers doing it. - Neither of us remember having any symbols on our shirts. Our colors were displayed as our accents (his laces, my hoodie, etc).

Memories I, Roxy, Specifically Have

- I died and I don’t think I godtiered until after I was revived (if I was, and if I did-- I don’t personally remember godtiering, but I also don’t remember if we actually beat the game or not). - I remember specifically playing volleyball with some of the kids on the beach, as the sun was setting. A few of the trolls were starting to poke their heads out to see what we were doing out by the water. - I tied the ribbon to Dirk’s left wrist, since he was left-handed, as a reminder of us. I think this was before I went off and did whatever eventually killed me, and I think this was when at lot of us had finally gathered in one place. - I was blonde, with pink eyes, shades like Dave’s in canon, but my t-shirt was cut so the tops of my shoulders were exposed. gender: i define myself as nonbinary! i don’t know really what Specific term i am because i don’t really vibe with any of them, and i quite like how nonbinary sounds as an umbrella term. i’m fine with whatever pronouns too! most people use she/her for me because i’m pretty feminine and i love that. call me whatever you want though as long as you’re respectful about it!!

average hours of sleep: when school was in session, i used to wake up at 5:15 AM every day (i know i’m on crack) and would usually fall asleep around 11:30-12:30 PM at the absolute latest? so Usually five hours! my sleep schedule now is more like wake up at 7:15 and go to bed from 12:30-2:00 hehe

how i came up with my url: this is so embarrassing but. i was a homestuck fan and i thought feferi was cute, and i loved her fish puns. the word ‘glub’ stuck out to me, and i just kinda tacked on the ‘bity’ because it felt nice to say in conjunction with that. thus, glubbity! when i was younger, i always forgot if my url had two b’s or two t’s... like glubitty. very silly

what do you love about yourself? (can’t be something you do for others): personally, i feel like i have an aura of Extrovert that makes it very easy for me to talk to people. sometimes being boldly outspoken about minor or trivial things is the most beneficial way of getting to know someone. i also have a very People Focused memory, and will almost always remember your name, your schedule and/or other minute details that you told me three weeks ago. i just like Knowing people, it’s fun.

what kept you going through middle school? if it wasn’t hard, what was it like?: middle school was the roughest period of my life for a variety of reasons, and i relied heavily on tumblr as an outlet for that time period. this is cringe but i was into south park, eddsworld, danganronpa and steven universe as a middleschooler. i also played animal crossing new leaf and pokemon to keep me grounded-- i even had an animal crossing ask blog for rosie the cat! finally, i had art to focus on, and this is where my artistic destination really defined itself. middle school still sucked balls but it made me into who i am today!

So we’re gonna try looking for the others, since my hopes are soaring; I’ve been kin with Roxy Strider (Dave-swapped) for so long and didn’t think I’d ever find anyone from my timeline. Guess patience always pays out? Who knows.

Anyways! Details below about our common memories and then my personal memories. 

(Please note, I am 23. Dirk is 16. If you have problems with interacting with an adult, DNI. We are both 100% okay talking with whoever. Dirk is also Dirk Lalonde, Rose-swapped, so our swaps follow that formatting.)

Memories Dirk and I Share

- I most definitely died. - It’s probable I came back to life (so we think there was a life player somewhere). - It’s probable we exchanged gifts (this is more personable to us, but Dirk gave me a black plush cat made out of soft/fine fake furs?, and I gave him a ribbon on his left wrist, dyed orange and pinks in gradient as a reminder of me/us. - It’s Highly Likely we painted our nails, but if this was in person or over tech is TBD; if you remember seeing us doing this, don’t worry; it likely happened when we were in person too. The question is when Dirk remembers doing it. - Neither of us remember having any symbols on our shirts. Our colors were displayed as our accents (his laces, my hoodie, etc).

Memories I, Roxy, Specifically Have

- I died and I don’t think I godtiered until after I was revived (if I was, and if I did– I don’t personally remember godtiering, but I also don’t remember if we actually beat the game or not). - I remember specifically playing volleyball with some of the kids on the beach, as the sun was setting. A few of the trolls were starting to poke their heads out to see what we were doing out by the water. - I tied the ribbon to Dirk’s left wrist, since he was left-handed, as a reminder of us. I think this was before I went off and did whatever eventually killed me, and I think this was when at lot of us had finally gathered in one place. - I was blonde, with pink eyes, shades like Dave’s in canon, but my t-shirt was cut so the tops of my shoulders were exposed. - I was raised by my mom, who would disappear for sometimes days, so I took to caring for my self as much as necessary. - I think I taught myself how to sew, and I made plushies for a lot of my friends. - I remember chatting with Karkat Maryam about his relationship with Terezi Zahhak, as well as talking to Vriska Makara, though I’m not sure what about. - I was also blonde, and I had dark purple eyes that, with my orange glasses, I usually passed off as black or very dark brown. I was really into the goth aesthetic, specifically kinda Victorian inspired. I wore heeled boots with orange laces, as well as these pants that had orange laces down the sides. I had an over coat that had buttons on each side that I wore pretty much all the time, and orange tint glasses that were octagon shaped - I also don’t really have a lot of memories related to the game, most of my memories are pre-game, or are in the game but not about actually playing it

However... Honestly my two bets here are that, John is going to bump into Davepeta and have a brief moment of misgendering them before being corrected and some talk about gender identity, and that Dave may give John a big talk regarding identity and fucked up societal stuff.

Sexual Abuse, Rape, Non-Con, Dubious Consent, Slut Shaming: These may easily tie in with the previous one too, as V mentioned, these aren’t things we’re going to see at all, but they are going to get briefly discussed. So no one’s going to get coerced into anything. Bad themes but, stuff to talk about.

Suicide there could be talk of their Immortality, hell maybe it’s even a morbid but still joking thing that’s not serious, but I’m kind of concerned it may be more. Starvation though, I can’t... Think of anyone who could Starve, except perhaps Terezi having been outside searching for Vriska for so long, and I worry... And Funerals, please just talk about Mutie’s and Rose’s Funerals, please no one die. :I I mean except John, which I’m assuming may die, but I’ll talk about that later.

Poisoning, Pica: Another possible alternative for the ‘Vomit’ warning? It may also tie into some assassination attempt. There’s no ‘overdose’ tag, so I am ruling out the idea that Rose IS gonna start going too far. Like straight up. Pica is also a disorder in which someone eats non-edible stuffs, which could cause poisoning and vomit? But. Honestly? I think... Pica is just going to be Terezi eating chalk.

Friends to Lovers, Polyamory, Infidelity, Marriage, Cuckolding: Now BEFORE any of you crucify me for putting Polyamory and Infidelity together. I know. I’m not implying anything. BUT while it’s possible that like. Rose or Kanaya had some talk about their marriage. I think it could be quite hilarious if John saw Jade, Dave and Karkat like. Making out amongst themselves at different points and assume that they’re cheating on each other, or worse, that they tease him for having that come to mind immediately. ‘wow karkat i cant believe youre cucking me with jade im hurt’ ‘SHUT THE FUCK UP STRIDER, OH MY GOD-’

Cannibalism, Vore: I am. I am going to go ahead and think this is because of the drawing of Roxy eating a baby??? Honestly who even KNOWS at this point. Is Caliborn going to try to VORE anyone like a god damn snake? Good lord.

Mind Break, Rough Sex, Light BDSM: Remember that there’s NO sexual content in the Epilogue. Confirmed. So uh... Yeah. Okay I added ‘Mind Break’ here for humorous effect but honestly it may be better suited for some of the messed up warnings above, maybe alongside Mind Control? Oof. Rough Sex... I can imagine someone joking about it? Maybe someone gets really shameless with the innuendos. And Light BDSM I’m just going to say we’re going to see Clover. Or... Gamzee DID get tied up. Does that count?

Bimboification: This fucking one. This one is the one that throws me out for a limb the most. It may be relating to the Trickster Mode? It may also be related to Caliborn and him like. Objectifying the characters or something, but that isn’t as ‘ification’. Another thing that’s got me wondering is ‘Bimboification’. As FAR as I understand this term to go, the correct way of saying it is ‘Bimbofication’? So either it’s a typo, OR ‘Bomboification can apparently be used some times for specifically males? What I’m saying is, I can’t believe Lord English really is a Himbo.

Redemption: V... Vriska? Maybe. But also I kinda hope not. I’m really wishing ‘Redemption’ comes from everyone working their shit out together and being a big bunch of friends again.

Canon Compliant, Canon Divergent, Self-Sacrifice: Finally! The last ones! This is both Canon Compliant and Canon Divergent, which should be easy enough to parse through the Meat-Candy choice (And what I believe will be a split-path with the next update). Self-Sacrifice... Yeah that is what’s going to happen with John isn’t it? At least in the ‘Meat’ path. But I’ve talked already too much and gotten too Spoilery, ssssh!

So hey! These warnings don’t look so intimidating when you realize 90% were already things that happen in Homestuck proper, and the rest can be discussed in an adult manner without having awful things happen to people.

I’m mostly worried about people dying and getting hurt.

Okay way off base headcannons time!! First up is the boy himself, Murderclown! You didnt really go super into details about his powers on the post but I cant step away from the rage idea I got (cause I love classpect stuff and also bringin in that Highblood rage nonsense) and like he can drown people in visions of whatever would set them off? But given that he's already pretty strong on his own he tends to go for brute force instead, next up!! Obviously next gotta go over who all died during murder time! I'm thinking just the basics, which means sadly; Nep, Eq, Fef, and Tavros. Now why do I bring this up? Because I have a very uhhhh specific headcannon that is-let's be real-absolutely off base for what you're going for, probably, most likely. Because if we've got the alpha team then that means we've got the ALPHA team meaning we've got Calliope and Caliborn! Now I tend to be a fan of when it's where they're twins (though I do suppose a Jekyll and Hyde situation would work in this) and I imagine they both have the same basis of powers but use them in different ways, which is essentially narrative manipulation, kinda mirroring when Caliborn took over the narrative of homestuck for a bit, with Caliborn he tends to focus more on manipulating people to his whims, usually preferring to cause chaos, while Calliope tends to focus on manipulation of the world around, like the column of the bridge collapsing or something similar, they are clearly high energy abilities for both meaning it takes a while to build up to being able to use their abilities and large scale things are quite difficult. I bring them up because so far the whole murder time has been described as 'something snapped' and how they dont know what caused Gamzee to go murderclown, so my temporary headcannon is that Caliborn attacked them (havent officially decided why, maybe because he knew certain members would make strong allies?), Gamzee's always been a little unstable but leaning towards the peaceful side of his instability, it wouldnt take much to lean it to the other side given his rage abilities, Eridan is already bitter about Sollux hanging around Fef and her rebuttal, it would be very easy to up that bitterness into dangerous categories leading to a fight, and I know what you're thinking 'oh and then Vriska gets manipulated as well' which would make sense with the common storyline of her being manipulated by Doc Scratch and also manipulating others BUT hear me out on this? What if instead? Tavros was manipulated? He's getting concerned about Vriska's growing need to be a big hero in the spotlight (no one had heard of these guys before so I assume they weren't public about their powers like the Strilondes were) so all that's need to be done is push that concern into slight paranoia, Tavros HAS to get rid of Vriska or she'll ruin everything! This leads to the usual route of Vriska goes too far. She couldve easily disarmed Tavros but instead kills him. Eridan runs off and is chased by Sollux and Kanaya to be taken care of, Vriska (who because of her already bad standing with most members in their group realizes the death of Tavros will not go over well(havent decided if I believe she realizes she couldve not killed him or not)) is chased by Terezi and Aradia (who just because it's complicated to transfer that whole thing over, either never died to begin with, or part of her speaking to the dead powers allows her to come back a limited amount of times???), leaving Gamzee to be chased by Karkat.

....I uh...apparently had a lot of headcannons....whoops and like I know for sure the whole Kanaya headcannon is incorrect because you just said she's holding down the fort but yeah!! Also!!! Rosemary seems to give a lot of people trouble but I'm sure you'll be able to do it!!

DUDE........ omg this was so cool to read holy shit. I don’t want to spoil too much, but you’re actually right with a few of these! Equius, Nepeta, Feferi, and Tavros were the casualties of that Whole Mess, though Tavros was just paralyzed, not killed (and I’m planning for the dead folks to still have a way to be present through Shenanigans). As for the cherubs... hmmm! There is a little plot hole I’ve been trying to fill, so I will keep these incredible takes in mind :O!

There is definitely some outside manipulation involved in the trolls’ situation and it’s only going to get worse, but I hadn’t considered Tavros being involved in that! I could maybe find a way to incorporate that into something... my Tavros stan heart would love to find a way to make him relevant dlkfjdlskfj also you’re actually right with Kanaya! She did handle Eridan, he just didn’t get very far (as opposed to Vriska and Gamzee who fucking Vanished). Terezi is definitely planned to be going after Vriska (I actually have a possible fic for them floating around in my brain) but I could definitely see Aradia being involved too (Make Her Pay Reprise lol)

Classpect Analysis: Page of Light

Active or Passive: Passive

What they do: Pages passively utilize their aspect/utilize through their aspect, and often use it to protect. Light is the aspect of information/knowledge, analysis, perception/awareness, fortune/luck, illumination (both literally and metaphorically), meaning/truth/clarity, and attention/the “spotlight.”

Active equivalent: Knight of Light

Inverse: Thief of Void

The Page of Light starts out with pretty much none of their aspect as well as a pretty poor grasp of understanding and utilizing it. Light represents, among other things, information and knowledge. Keep in mind that this does not necessarily mean they are unintelligent! What this means is that this Page may not have a lot of truth in their life. They might be innocent rather than being considered ‘dumb;’ instead, they’re kind of the clueless friend, though they like to think otherwise. It’s likely that this Page has a short attention span about half the time or give more attention to some information than others. And if they do get their hands on some interesting information, it’s likely that they’ll go all sorts of ways in analyzing it...completely wrong, that is. This Page has the tendency to fixate on specific facts and over-process them to the point where such facts no longer have any discernible meaning. You could give this Page a poem about dogs and two hours later they could come back to you with an overly detailed (and probably wrong) explanation as to how this poem reveals the author’s deep-seated fear of death. In an effort to appear smart, they might use every possible method of analysis at their disposal and end up making it clear to everyone else that they are overcompensating a lot-- all while missing the actual point the information they’ve studied is trying to make. And their attempts to synthesize various sources together may lead to facts getting jumbled and their information being very confusing. Additionally, it’s likely that they’ll substitute ‘normal’ words for extremely complicated/obscure words in an effort to look like a genius, which results in the opposite. All this variety in their attempted analysis leads them to not having a clear sense of truth and meaning in their life. Sure, this Page might think they’ve got it all figured out, but the reality is that they’re in a sort of fog of confusion. This Page might get led around a lot as a result when it comes to meanings and interpretations, unconsciously leaning on someone else’s perception so they don’t look like a fool while still thinking they’re very intelligent. As a result of heavily leaning on someone else’s perspective, they’re likely to be more narrow-minded as well. Maybe they know weird trivia facts (ex. “Did you know that zebras are black with white stripes, and not vice versa?” but the moment you ask them what continent zebras are from, they completely blank).

Additionally, the Page of Light wants attention. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it’s just that they’d like to have the spotlight on them, even if their attempts to handle the attention are usually botched entirely. Maybe the one time they finally get people to pay attention to them is when they do something really ridiculous, and everyone mocks them for it.

In terms of metaphorical and literal representations of lack of Light, they might have poor eyesight. They might also live in a dark place and not really get a lot of sun. Adding on to the fact that Pages tend to try and overcompensate, this one is likely the type to spend hours in the sun to try and get a tan, only to get badly burned in the process. This Page could also be exceptionally unlucky and try to fix it by carrying around as many lucky charms as possible.

The Page of Light, like all other Pages, is going to have a very slow growth process. However, if they can unlock their potential, they will become extremely powerful. In the case of the Page of Light, they’re going to go on a quest to discover truth and meaning. This could go badly if they have someone constantly influencing their perception and how they analyze things, as well as what they do with the information they discover. Some independence would help this Page; when they’re alone, not influenced by what other people find important, it will be easier for them to see it themselves. They learn how to analyze information properly and utilize it for the best strategies. Additionally, they’ll be able to get more attention and start using it to their advantage. At first, their teammates might not trust the information this Page gives them, seeing as their insights are usually flawed. But if they can learn to take a chance, they might find that it’ll pay off-- which will also give the Page more attention and boost their confidence.

A god tiered Page of Light who has fully developed will be an excellent teammate to have! They have a much better grasp on their idea of truth as well as how to analyze and apply information. They can also understand other people’s perspectives and therefore be a decent advice-giver when it comes to pointing others to success. If the session hasn’t been completed at this point, they’re the right person to direct it. This Page also thrives in the limelight-- and combining their excellent advice, this is a good player to have. Not only can they strategize, but their teammates actually listen to them!

After they ascend (and if they’ve gone through the proper development), the Page of Light will be extremely powerful. They can utilize/exploit Light and utilize/exploit through Light. First would be luck. That doesn’t sound like too much at first, but think about it. When an enemy comes at them with a knife, this Page just happens to dodge at the perfect moment, and the enemy stabs one of their own comrades instead. The Page also just happens to aim every single shot perfectly, all the time. There are more ways, but needless to say this would make this Page very hard to defeat-- and we haven’t even gotten to their other powers yet! Utilizing Light in its most literal sense would also involve, well, light. A more passive version would be a light distraction like a brief flash. They can also shoot beams of blinding light into their enemies’ eyes, temporarily (or permanently) blinding them. (This could also have the amusing effect of a ‘spiritual illumination,’ i.e. an existential crisis.) This could also cause minor or major burns. Maybe they can microwave stuff with it, too. This power includes utilizing the light already around them-- if it’s daytime, fighting this Page is a bad idea. The Page themself could have a move where they give off an aura of blinding light-- this incorporates both the literal Light power as well as their proficiency for being in the spotlight. Speaking of which, this Page could activate a more subtle power: a particularly distracting presence. Enemies can’t tear their eyes off this Page, who gives off a vibe of being incredibly well-spoken (not charismatic, necessarily, but their words flow very smoothly despite their vocabulary being complex) until it is too late.

Oh! And relating back to that aura of Light I mentioned, they could use this in another subtle way: spreading information. When you speak with this Page, their words are easy to understand, and you feel more intelligent just being in their presence. And though they might not communicate everything in words, you can feel the information and analysis almost transferring to your brain. So basically, this:

A powerful Page could use this on friends and foes alike. A more direct method would be for this Page to touch a teammate (perhaps by having the teammate close their eyes, and the Page gently lays a finger on their eyelids, since the eyes represent Light?) and communicate the information without any words. However, foes would be infected with unfathomable horrors beyond words in some kind of horrifying Lovecraft-esque way. Which brings me to my next point: Would the Page of Light be able to communicate with and understand the horrorterrors without some sort of mind break? I think so. Feferi was able to communicate with them (and even persuade them to make the dream bubbles), likely as a result of her time with G'lbgolyb, Emissary to the Horrorterrors. So I think that this Page would have the information needed to speak with them, once fully developed, of course. If this Page tries to talk to them prior to that… I don’t think it’ll end well.

As for a land for the Page of Light, I recommend the Land of Mirrors and Libraries. LOMAL is a land shrouded in darkness; the ancient oak trees, once rumored to whisper secrets of old, have shriveled in the endless night. As a result of the constant darkness, the consorts can barely read their books and only have fractions of the knowledge they once possessed. They can give hints to the Page of Light, who can rearrange the mirrors around the planet to reflect the moonlight into the libraries instead. Once they do so and can understand the information in the books, they will know how to bring back the sun, which will rejuvenate the whispering trees.

As for a strife specibus, Pages have used weapons that are obviously, well, weapons (lance, pistols) while Light players tend to have ordinary objects that double as weapons (2xneedlekind, dicekind). That’s kind of a catch-22, so I’ll list options for both. The Page of Light might use a magnifying glass that is actually defunct (though they don’t know it) or maybe a tarot deck that works for both being slammed over enemies’ heads and the Page’s overanalytic tendencies. On the other hand, an actual weapon for this Page could be a ray gun. Maybe they *think* it works because they read that microwave beams are harmful, but the weapon actually does jack squat at first, only becoming more potent with alchemizing it with other weapons.

Question for any of y'all to answer, what do you guys think the trolls smell like? Or maybe what they smelled like in one of your timlines? Fun little detail I love to hear about :o)

💫: that.... honestly is a question i end up considering a lot of the time since most of my memories are just weird snippets of sensory stuff. i think while there's like. a general troll smell (kinda the way there's like. a basic people smell. or like. how an animal just *smells* like that animal in general? but that feels pretty generically background and as odd as it might sound its like. a similar sort of metallic-ish smell to like. coins or blood? but like... also kinda smells vaguely industrial? like metal mixed with dirt or like. mud? like the smell of wet concrete. like after it rains and you can smell the sidewalk and grass still covered in all the rainwater? or like. that ozone smell from thunderstorms, especially how sharp it is in the mountains? yeah like that. at least as the counterpart to the general human like. "skin" smell?? i mean that in the least weird way i possibly can ^^;;;;; anyway.... in terms of trolls' specific smells in different timelines... hmm... here's a few of the ones that stand out to me! (it’s all gamzee timelines predictably)

while sollux maryam (gamzee zahhak tl) tended to smell sort of like poppy flowers and honeycomb, his sburb planet (land of blight and disarray) smelled exactly like a corpse flower. (i on the other hand mostly smelled like rust and hydrogen peroxide or sometimes hot sand or wet rocks). in that same timeline karkat peixes in my mind is always linked to the smell of pink sea salt and like... sort of a salmon-y sort of smell?

karkat makara (gamzee vantas tl) smells distinctly like popcorn!! and just a little bit like that burnt ashy sulfur smell that gets stuck in the air after a bunch of fireworks are set off. so kinda like burnt popcorn but like. in a good way cuz thats my boy <> <> <>

in my gamzee megido timeline a lot of things just smell kind of like cheap acrylic paint but anytime kurloz was around contacting me he sort of had like??? a ghost smell??? it was sort of like.... wet?? and sour??? like mud and gasoline, i guess. aradia makara smelled like strawberry preserves, grape jelly, and unscented wax melts. eridan serket had that sort of smell of like. a beach but more like the cliff overhanging a beach? so its like a beach but like, cold, ya know? im not sure if that makes much sense lol

🃏: I do have to agree with mod clowncAR on the whole like...general troll smell thing, like that really metallic and ozone smell, y'know? but I know on Beforus (especially in my Meulin timeline specifically, but it was there for almost all of them) there was always like. a wet leaf smell to everyone. and how bugs just smell. like that real specific smell of insects, like when there's a lot of Japanese beetles in one place, or how like. fireflies smell. outside of that, I do have some specific timeline ones.

in my feferi pyrope tl, my karkat maryam smelled like hair gel (which was a very like. baby powder-y and coconut oil smell), and also like slightly burnt caramel. and metal. that boy wore so much jewelry.

in my rufioh makara tl, porrim serket smelled like a really really floral and sweet perfume, and like dried herbs and dessert wines. she also smelled like kind of older face powders and lipsticks which I personally loved. cronus zahhak smelled like machine oil and sweat and like a really strong and peppery cologne that, surprisingly, always worked well with the machine-y smell in my opinion. he smelled like cloves too, and incense. I liked how he and porrim smelled <3 (mituna complained that cronus made him sneeze too much)

in my rome strider tl, I specifically smelled like caramel and kinda like. old leaves? idk I grew up in like, the middle of no-where in appalachia, in a haunted sanatorium, I just kinda smelled like an old, cold cement building for a long time. and then I started smelling like facepaint and powder and a little fruity, but it was like. a sickly sweet smell, one you'd associate with fermenting fruit. jackie crocker smelled like strawberries and cake and something kinda peppery and it was just. nice. she also kinda smelled like a grandma but I thought it was good. worked with all of her other smells.

Hello! I was scrolling through your blog and really liked the analyses(like, really they're all so detailed, good job) anyway, I'm confused about how witches would interact with their aspect. I know they manipulate it, but excluding all the flashy powers, how would(for example) a witch of time or a witch of rage act before they play Sburb? I know you have a lot of asks on your plate so I'm sorry this is kind of long. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Don’t worry about ask length, I actually really enjoy having this much to work with! Often, the more detail I have at the start, the easier it is for me to delve into precisely what you’d like to explore.

Now, it’s easy for us to pinpoint exactly how Witches tend to use their powers in the context of the game itself, but when it comes to the more subtle hints about someone’s Class (especially before the game) we have to look more generally at the Witches we’ve seen so far: namely, Jade and Feferi, as Damara is admittedly a bit hard to pin down. From there, we can infer some common traits among them, and see what fits into the archetype.

Although Class names don’t always completely align with our concepts of their origins, there are still some good hints: Heirs “inherit” their Aspect and are protected by it, Knights use their Aspect as a weapon and often have some form of barrier or “shield” they construct for themselves, and Witches generally go against the grain of what society dictates for them. This is quite obvious in Feferi’s case, as her preferred method of “culling” is far different than what we see in Alternia’s current setup. As we explore Beforan society, with Feferi’s counterpart as the Empress instead of Meenah’s, trolls in lower blood castes are coddled and treated as pets, or even vanity items, and doubly so for those with mutations, disabilities, etc. while those on Alternia with such traits are often brutally killed, if they even managed to make it out of the brooding caverns due to the harsh nature of the Trials. The key here is that Witches are often unsatisfied with the current state of affairs in their society, and whether or not they’re loud and proud about their deviance, they often stick to their guns and refuse to see societal norms as anything but a weak suggestion.

Witches generally don’t seem to care what others think of their unique perspectives, as they’re usually far too preoccupied with acting on them and living that truth rather than bowing to the unwanted opinions of others. They also tend to be gifted at the beginning of their journeys with large amounts of their Aspect, though not necessarily in ways that directly help or harm them. Feferi was gifted with a potential for the longest lifespan among trolls due to the biology of trolls in the highest echelon of the hemospectrum. She also seemed to possess a great amount of energy, and she lived a life of luxury as an heiress. Both of these qualities are a reflection of the Life Aspect. Meanwhile, Jade is naturally gifted with qualities of Space, the most obvious being the vast amount of space between her island home and the rest of civilization. She has a very natural grasp of physics, even displaying a strange sense of intuition regarding nuclear physics in particular.

With these ideas in mind, let’s talk about one specific Witch you’ve brought to the table: the Witch of Time. (Edit: I was going to go into detail about both the Witch of Time and the Witch of Rage, but upon reflection, this post was becoming far too long, so I’ll have to go into the Witch of Rage some other time.) Naturally, it would be irresponsible of me to mention the Witch of Time without bringing up Damara, but for our purposes here, she’ll take a backseat in this analysis. Very little is actually known about her life and behavior before Meenah’s harassment and abuse led her to drastically change in personality. It’s implied that she was quite unobtrusive, even being described as “meek” by Aranea, but that’s about all we get. This seems to go against our idea of Witches as “rebels,” right? It’s certainly something I’d like to think about more. When I imagine a Witch of Time, I imagine someone who decides that their society’s ideas about fate, death, and the general progression of events is not all it’s cracked up to be.

How a Witch behaves can be largely dependent on the society and conditions in which they’re raised. How different cultures view death, for example, is a very easy thing to compare and contrast. Let’s compare, for example, how deceased family members are revered and their lives celebrated on Dia de los Muertos in many parts of Mexico, to how death is considered upsetting, scary, or even taboo to discuss in heavily European-influenced parts of America. That’s not to say there’s no overlap, of course; plenty of Mexican families grieve the loss of loved ones, and plenty of American families celebrate the lives of theirs. It’s the overall culture surrounding death and the traditions that follow which mark the distinction. Death plays a very big role in the Time Aspect, as many Time players will have to come to terms with Doomed Timelines early on, with some witnessing the deaths of their friends and even, if they fail even once to create a stable time loop, their own deaths. How they feel about life and death as a part of the natural order is ultimately going to determine how they react to these challenges, and the key with Witches is that they’ll almost always challenge their society’s ideas about their Aspect.

With regards to a Witch of Time who grew up understanding that life and death are a cycle that all must go through, not something scary to be feared, they may start out trying to prove such a notion untrue, even in small and subtle ways. They’ll wear their favorite clothing until it’s ripped and stained, squeeze every bit of use out of old appliances even as their cords are fraying, and drive nearly everyone bonkers with their shenanigans. Yet, this translates into incredible power in the context of the game. At the end of it all, this Witch of Time is likely to mess with timelines to a dangerous extent, pushing themselves to the limit to keep their teammates alive as long as possible, which can be incredibly risky when the Alpha Timeline and the various forces of the universe begin demanding their dues—which is something I could go on about at length, but I’ve already written over 1k words so far, and in a double-spaced Word document, I’ve reached 2.5 pages, so I’ll spare you for now. It’s safe to say, though, that if this Witch’s time ever seems to come to an end, they’ll be the first to refuse giving up the ghost, and will do everything they can to stick around.

On the other hand, for a Witch of Time who was raised like I was, seeing death as an incredibly tragic event involving a funeral and sometimes a wake, surrounded by unfamiliar people crying softly and your favorite uncle speaking solemnly to a crowd of mourners, the opposite becomes true in the Witch’s mind. To this Witch of Time, death is a natural thing, and although grief is just as natural, life should be celebrated and cherished. They might take a more relaxed approach to life, knowing that an ultimate end must come, therefore each moment should mean something. This kind of Witch certainly won’t always be calm and collected, just as our other Witch of Time won’t always be frazzled and micromanaging, but there are certainly tendencies. A Witch of Time who’s comfortable with the ebb and flow of life and death will be less put-off by the idea of moving on when it’s time, and they’ll be less likely to keep things around just for the sake of not letting go. This may certainly sound like a healthier mindset, but the key here is moderation, because a Witch like this who indulges too much in the worldview they’ve crafted will tend to impress that view upon others, who may not be of the same mind, and nothing is worse than someone telling a grieving friend to “move on” before they’re ready. Still, they may be the most comfortable with the concept of God Tiers and the sacrifice required to get to that point, which is handy for any team looking to amass power and skill.
