Alhaitham is rather content with this as well, appreciating an independent pet far more than one that requires constant attention. He still shares a close and trusted bond with him regardless. However, when Nasir does return home ( either due to being called or the bird's own whims ) he is quite affectionate and quiet, more often than not perching nearby. Interestingly, he has grown particularly attached to Kaveh ( @ksharhrewar ) and frequently gets comfortable on the architect's shoulder while he works, certainly in no small part because Kaveh spoils him rotten on the regular. However, the bird does not appreciate when strangers pet him and will fly away as soon as his messaging job is done.

We had an exciting visitor this week! My niece and nephews discovered this lost homing pigeon at my parents' alpaca farm, so they called me to help because I have a slight history with rescuing birbs. Mom gave it food and water and kept it in a dog kennel overnight (it was very very hungry!) We tried releasing it the next day since the tag suggested it was a racing pigeon, but it didn't seem to know what to do, so we brought it back in.

(Trying to help me with my editing, to limited success.)

But, happy day, I was able to contact the national pigeon racing organization signified on its legband, and they got me in touch with the area chapter referenced by the legband code, and HE got me in touch with the owner! The owner said this little guy was very young and got scared off by a hawk attack about a week ago (which explains the very small, healed-over scab on his neck). And he is from over an hour's drive south of here! We were both surprised he wandered that far! The owner was SUPER appreciative that we took care of him and made the effort to find the owner, and lo and behold, there is a pigeon auction he had been considering attending IN MY TOWN, so he asked if we could take care of it until this Saturday! All of us were super jazzed at this happy ending and I volunteered to keep the bird until then.

Also, when I asked the bird's name, he said it didn't have one yet. My niece was DELIGHTED when he said it would now be called by her name suggestion, Pedro! :D

Anyhoo, I took him to my house since I have dove food. He is very nervous and baby, but I have been loving on him to help keep him used to peoples. And my doves have been surprisingly accomodating (only going after him if he tries to land on their cage)!

Twisted Monsterland: Sleepy Birds

So…let’s talk harpies.

Without going into details about the overall species (I’ll save that for the baby monster bestiary I’m working on), I will say that harpies can be based on all species of birds. Falcons, eagles, and vultures? Sure, they’re more commonly known as the base foundation for the species, but they’re not the only ones! Crowley is a good example as a corvid harpy, and some of Rook’s siblings are based on birds of paradise like parrots and macaws! Some can even be based on delicate birds like the hummingbird~

Oof…just thinking about having to flap my arms that fast as a harpy makes me tired! 0.0

Now, you’re probably wondering, “That’s neat! But…where are you going with this?” And that’s a good question! Because we’re gonna talk about birbs~!

I’ve never owned a bird as a pet before, but my grandparents had one when we used to visit in my childhood. One thing I learned about birds (aside from the fact that we had to clap whenever their bird performed a trick on her own and someone saw it) is that one common thing bird owners do to calm down their feathery companions:

The “sleepy-time blanket”!

When the blanket goes over the cage, it’s supposed to mimic night time so the bird thinks it’s time to sleep. And when the cover is removed? It��s time to sing good morning~! Granted, it seems like this varies from bird-to-bird, but considering how often I’ve struggled to stay awake in school whenever the teachers used powerpoint slides in a dark room? Yeah, I get very sleepy in those cases. 😅

Kalim: Normal blanket activates the zoomies. Introduced weighted blanket. Instant calm and Jamil is left baffled and grateful at the same time by this discovery!

Crowley: Fell asleep instantly. Sheets have been weaponized by the staff on occasion, so now he flies away at the sight of anyone carrying one towards him.

Seeing these results makes Yuu question what other animal reactions the students can possibly have. Meanwhile, their fellow students are warily watching the human scribble down notes in a notepad while carrying a jar of peanut butter.

Jack: “…why do you need me to be in beast form?”

Yuu: “I wanted to see something.”

Jack: “Okay…but what’s with the peanut butter?”

Yuu: “This? It’s just a tasty snack.” *opens it and scoops out a large spoonful* “See? Just regular peanut butter.”

Ratio tells Aventurine all about the science that goes into making a functioning and not deadly rollercoaster while they wait in line to ride one, Aven laughs at Ratio for the face he makes when he sees all the deep fried food for sale, Ratio attempts to use logic to win at the game stands but theyre always rigged to hell but then Aven comes over and absolutely demolishes every game he plays due to his luck (much to the shock of Ratio and the stand owners who rigged those games themselves lol) (Ratio wins one stuffed animal tho and he picks the peacock for Aven. Aaaaaah that is so cute, they would have such a great time together! Now I have the most adorable image in mind of Aven resting his head on Ratio's shoulder while they're both cuddling their birb plushies! Besides, this had me thinking that as a child, Ratio must have loved playing hook-a-duck (I think that's the right english term?) at fairs and now I'm picturing how soft it would make Aven feel if he ever stumbled upon an old photo of it.

I'm really glad you're excited about my AU ^v^, but as for how to pronounce "Magne"... Sorry. But it seems I'm just as lost as you are in this. 😅👉👈 Because while I have my own interpretation based on my acquired accent, apparently there's more than one way to say it! Depending if you're French, American, or Norwegian just to name some examples. I've heard the different ways people read it out loud, along with its different meanings, and my verdict ended up being: It's fine as long as you tried. XD There doesn't seem to be a universal way of speaking it as I've only seen people be as confused as us (but if there is, I may have also missed it) and it just doesn't seem worth stressing about atm. Maybe someone else would know better, but personally, I pronounce it as "Magh-Neh" just cause my Filipino reading comprehension first thought of it that way and I stuck with it.
