Another Sunday night, another green tea multi-masking session!

Green tea remains one of my favorite ingredients for skincare: it’s so nourishing and refreshing, great for skin that can’t decide whether it wants to be oily or dry. I started out with my trusty Green Dr. Jart Dermaclear Trans-Foam for a quick deep cleansing and followed it up with Mario Badescu’s Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea Facial Spray as a toner.

The only really new product I tried in this regimen was the H2O+ Aqua Defense Refining Matcha Peel-Off Mask, which I found deeply underwhelming. It didn’t take off the two layers of my dermis to reveal a magical new version of me underneath, and at $40 for that tiny-ass tube, I can’t abide anything short of magic.

The BioRepublic Green Tea Detox Purifying Mask was also fairly meh, if I’m being perfectly honest. I think I’m at a point in my Kbeauty skincare journey where I know which brands, products, and ingredients are my favorites, and I only really want to try something new if it meets, like, two of those criteria. Fortunately, my Innisfree Green Tea goodies always come through in the end to keep me feeling refreshed and moisturized just time for some much-needed beauty sleep before the work week gets going.

BEAUTY HAUL: A Birchbox Moment of Weakness in Two Parts

If there's a way to my cold little beauty fiend heart, it's through sales and points. Put my favorite shit on sale and give me free points? Shut up and take my money. Which is exactly what Birchbox did on both accounts, and is also how they continue to hold sway over my wallet despite canceling my subscription months ago.

First, Birchbox put their entire Dr. Jart selection on sale, for one day only (of course). I had been DYING to get my mitts on one of these creepy baby Rubber Masks, so I had to dish out for the Bright Lover brightening version, and then this new Micro Milk Peel set caught my eye as well. I've been feeling somewhat less than radiant in the face as of late, and I no longer splurge on professional peels via aesthetician (miss you, Giovanni!!), so with sale winds in my sails, it went full speed ahead into my cart.

I padded things out with a fresh stash of Avene Eau Thermale mists and an OCC Lip Tar in Hollywood (that looks intensely nude and I'm not sure I can handle it, but damned if I won't at least try) so I could score some free BioRepublic sheet masks that I definitely don't need (in green tea and cucumber flavors, two of my faves!). 

Give me ALL the things, whether I actually need them or not: tattoo it on my body, carve it in my tombstone.

And then as if that little Dr. Jart Day promo wasn't enough, less than a week later Birchbox blessed my points balance with $15 free (in points duh), and you know damn good and well I can't resist that for the life of me. I figured I needed to not any more skincare stuff, so I went with makeup and hooked myself up with some pretty warm shades and rose gold: metallic Jouer Long-Wear Creme Liquid Lipstick in Rose Gold, LOC One & Done Shadow Stick creamy eye pencil (I don't think I've bought regular powder eyeshadow in at least a year, and I'm ok with that?), and Smith & Cult Nailed Lacquer in 1972. And since I am predictable AF, I scooped up a free mini of Jurlique Activating Water essence.

So this two-parter was one of the better haul deals I've had lately, even though it's still not at the magical 50% off point. I'm realizing those kinds of deals are few and far between and require much more patience and willpower with regards to points and saving them up for more savings overall, and I'm just not sure I have that kind of wherewithal. 

Full disclosure, too: I've also been tracking my spending much more closely and in June I dropped almost $650 on beauty and skincare, up from $235 in May (and $0 in April). It's funny how easy it is to fall back into these buying habits, especially when encouraged by points, sales, deals, and also being easily swayed by targeted email marketing. So for July, it's back on the spend freeze again as I work on going through, cleaning out and being more thoughtful with my beauty stash overall.
