First Biology Class

Eden at this point regrets his choice in classes.

He has been in this class for less than ten minutes, yet he feels like he’s missed ten classes.

Maybe it was the constant chatter and tip tapping of the students around him but he could not focus.

Every word that Professor Engle speaks seems to wax his ears to the point his next words just slip through his mind.

All he could latch onto was occult and colour.

Now that he thinks of it, the oppressive humidity of the room was not helping, or was that his body was heating up. 

Now he has shivers down his back, what was wrong with him today?

Fiddling with the size to big, maroon jumper he wore, Eden could swear that his lecturer was side-eyeing him as he drew a diagram of a human body.

‘Eden, which protein affects a person's hair colour?’ 

The words seem to infiltrate all his thoughts, dipping their spindly fingers between the pink ridges of his brain, entracing his every thought when moments before they slipped right on by.

‘Melanin, Professor?’ Eden was confused, why would a professor ask such a simple question - he could swear that Professor Engle was discussing something else only a moment before. 

‘Please Eden,’ Professor Engle began, his every word punctuated by a slight pause, ‘just Eugene, we are all friends here and since you seem able to listen while fiddling with that crime against humanity you call a jumper,’ his words took on a sickly sweat quality as he strode towards Eden, ‘what was the first major scientific discovery in the field of the Occult in reference to Biology?’

Eden knew the answer, his dad told him the tale many times of how a doctor back in the Roman Empire noticed that people with orange hair had a strong leaning towards the fire occult, but the answer stuck to the tip of his tongue.

Eden’s mouth muscles felt like molasses, the spindly things that had invaded his mind seemed to pull upon his conscious as Professor Engle stepped up to Eden’s desk and leaned forward, coming to be eye level with Eden.

Eden’s focus and last remaining brain power seemed to focus on his teacher's greasy features. 

‘Bright yellow pores covered his face which seemed to be unnaturally even aside from his bent nose, beady, soulless eyes accompanied by a sly grin were framed with thin wisps of hair framed. He could swear that Mr Engle was related more closely to a toad than to a human.’

‘Thank you Eden for such a glowing review - see me after class as you seem to be unfocused at the second - but the correct answer was that discover that melanin, specifically the strand that is involved with one's hair colour, is closely tied to what occult they are destined to be involved with.’ 

Eden balked, not so much at describing his teachers surprising ugly face, but at not answering his lectures question. What was worse was that he could not remove the image of those beady eyes staring into his being.

Eden decided that he should scratch out just regretting, something like hates now fits better.

Bull sharks are one of the only sharks that are diadromous, meaning they can swim in both salt water and fresh water.

Nursehound!

Their leathery eggs, also called “mermaid’s purses,” have four curly tendrils evenly placed on each edge of the egg. A female shark will find patches of seaweed to lay her eggs, which the eggs then stick to and don’t drift off into open ocean!

Did you know that there are non mammalian pokemon that are able to nurse and produce milk? Pokemon like Alcreamie produce milk through milk ducts. Alcreamie have their milk ducts in their hand, and Milcery drink from there.

Gastrodon produce milk too, despite not being mammalian. Scientists aren't fully sure as to why, since no other Gastropods produce milk.

Pokemon like Prinplup, Empoleon, the Pidove line and Flamigo produce crop milk, which is something that both male and females of these species make and feed through a thing on their neck called the crop.

Spidops and Ariados mothers produce milk. I find this out a couple of days ago. Not sure how I feel about that. It's near their abdomens. It's also has a lot of protein apparently.

Luvdisc as well. Male and female Luvdisc produce a slime from their skin similar to milk, which their young drink. Since they live in oceans, their milk is very thick and protein rich.

I think this is a more well known fact, but Sharpedo produce milk as well. But what many don't know is that Gabite and Garchomp are also nursing pokemon.

Shuckle don't produce milk, but they feed their young their berry juice.

The Whimsicott line are also nursing pokemon, but they produce nectar; not milk.

So my dad's cousin used to be a marine biologist with a special interest in paleontology. Now he makes handmade jewelry. He sent me these out of the blue and my invertebrate lovin heart is! Screaming!

He also sent a frog necklace and bull shark tooth earrings

The Australian Bull Ray (another truly gorgeous species🫶), is found in the southern waters of Australia from Jurien Bay, Western Australia around the southern coast, to Tasmania and up the east coast as far as Moreton Bay in southern Queensland. It can reach a weight of about 220 pounds and can be up to 4 feet wide and 8 feet long.

I didn't have enough shark clothes so I decided to put sharks all over one of my sweaters, and I'm going to wear it for my 18th birthday tomorrow!! When I started I thought I'd fit about 8 shark, but ended up fitting 14 😎

Sharks on the front of the sleeves: coral catshark & bonnethead shark

Sharks on the front of the body: whale shark, bull shark, frilled shark, saw shark, angel shark (those last two are shown better in the closer picture)

Sharks on the back of the sleeves: zebra bullhead shark & dogfish shark

Sharks on the back of the body: thresher shark, cow shark(bluntnose sixgill), cookie cutter shark, great hammerhead shark, basking shark

They aren't all perfectly accurate because I had a few oopsies with my sewing machine, but I did my best, and even if other people aren't able to identify them because of the mess ups, I still can!! 😁

going to start posting shit my marine biology teacher says bc shes probably one of the most interesting people ive ever met. i dont even know how to describe it. here are some actual things about her and that ive heard her say:

-her accent is very noticeable, but equally as hard to place. at first, i thought it was bc i had just never heard or clocked it, but it did feel familiar. i just couldn’t figure out where it was from. when someone finally asked her where her accent was from, she told us “i don’t know, i just pick things up from places ive visited and lived.” which is a very long list, and you can hear the influence that every place on it has on her speech.

-“over spring break, im going to climb mount kilamanjaro!”

-the first or second week of school, she told the class that “if you need to reach me this weekend, i wont be able to answer any emails. it’s not that i don’t want to, but ill be deep beneath the earth exploring cave systems so i wont have service.”

—bonus: she shared photos of a strange Bug of some sort, greater than the size of a hand, that she had to crawl around in a very tight cave system when it wouldnt move. she also got covered in ants on this same trip, saying that “only her fingernails were visible”

-“i’ll be out of class next week, i’m going to be in a remote cabin. im planning on getting snowed in and ill be completely cut off from the world”

-“im so close to the treasure i can feel it i bet on a book at an auction and i can smell the answer, i know it has a secret that will help me get closer”

-“i used to have a t-rex jawbone but i had to leave it behind, i couldnt transport it”

-“i want to visit my friend who lives in alaska, but its so remote that i have to take a helicopter and its such a hassle not having any access to the rest or the world”

-“later on in the year, i may have to zoom to teach you all since i applied to be a part of a landmark research voyage and i am one of the final selections.”

-“i watched someone get stung by a stonefish. thankfully he survived but it was nasty stuff”

-“i was stung by several fireworms during a study. it was 2am and there was no one around, so i had to figure out a way to treat myself. for 3 years after, the hospital called ME for fireworm stings”

-she mentioned having more than 1 car, and when a student asked how she could afford multiple cars she told us “im a treasure hunter!” and DID NOT ELABORATE FURTHER!!!!!!!!!

-shes a big one piece fan because shes a treasure hunter, which is crazy because she is also the sort of woman who seems like she has not even a drop of free time she is so busy Doing Cool Shit

-“if you saw my closet, you would think i was a paleontologist”

-she is part of the explorers club, which i didn’t know was a Real Thing. like you see something like that in media and its like “oh thats an antiquity and used to emphasize the eccentricity” but no they have meetings and everything.

-“hong kong’s customs/mail system HATES me. i was the reason for a new law or two haha” its necessary to note that i dont remember this exactly, but i do remember her telling us that there is a government office in asia that has a bias specifically against her. its also necessary to note that she once again, did not elaborate.

-“and NO ONE else wanted to go into the steel cage being circled by a great white!”

-“i had to stop visiting a dolphin i was helping study because it got so excited to see me it caused problems. it kept throwing itself against the glass when it saw me because it was copying all the kids who would tap on the glass i think? it was so sad”

Bred by accident as in she didn't realize they were in the same egg group and didn't realize. I guess they didn't breed by accident but we didn't expect it. Wrong wording on my part. Oops

Pokemon Crossbreeds: Pighound

Not to be confused with the Hoghound breed of Houndoom, Pighound is the name for Growlithe/Arcanine with Lechonk/Oinkologne fathers. The breed was named after the fact that Oinkologne are pigs and Arcanine being Hounds. They've mostly been used by farmers to guard livestock since they're friendlier, and Oinkologne are less likely to fear them.

Growlithe

Pighound Growlithe gain a brown color scheme and floppy wars. Their stripes become smoother and resemble dirt or mud, as well as the eye patterns of Lechonk. They're fatter and very friendly to humans, and this breed is a popular pet in Paldea.

Arcanine

Male Female

Pighound Arcanine have less fluff (more prominent with Kantonian Arcanine), curved tails, and the eye patterns of Oinkologne. They're also fatter. Like stated before, they're friendlier and are a popular breed with Oinkologne fathers. While they look more muted, their fire abilities are just as strong snd shouldn't be underestimated. They release a slight aroma from their fur, but it isn't as strong as Oinkologne's.

Chemistry lab was great this morning, and the calculations and post lab are going really quickly. I still have biology lab but hopefully it will be just as fun to do. This is the first Red Bull that I’ve had in two and a half months
