Little Feat with Los Lobos at PNC Pavilion, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 18, 2024
When writing about a two-band gig, journalistic norms dictate leading with the headliner. But where Little Feat and Los Lobos are concerned, such guidelines are bunk.
Tumblr media
For on June 18 at Cincinnati’s PNC Pavilion, support act Lobos, a band with its core quartet in place for 51 years, was the brightest star on a stage shared with the recently reconstituted Feat, with original keyboardist and onstage traffic cop Bill Payne; Dixie Chicken-era members Sam Clayton (percussion) and Kenny Gradney (bass); Let it Roll arrival Fred Tackett on guitar, mandolin and trumpet; and new additions Tony Leone on drums and Paul Barrere vocals and Scott Sharrard on guitar and Lowell George vocals.
Tumblr media
What the fans who filled some one-third of the venue’s 4,000 seats received in return for braving the outdoor sauna was an hour from one of America’s longest-running and stable bands - horn/keyboard man Steve Berlin joined in 1982 - and 90 minutes from the world’s-best Little Feat tribute act with members of Los Lobos sitting in on multiple cuts.
Tumblr media
It was still near 90 degrees when Los Lobos wrapped at 9 p.m., yet the fans dancing to the Grateful Dead’s “Bertha,” which morphed out of “Not Fade Away,” rewarded the group with a standing ovation. And Cesar Rosas (guitar, percussion, vocals), Conrad Lozano (bass), Louie Pérez (guitar, jaraña, drums), David Hidalgo (guitar, accordion, vocals), Berlin and touring drummer Alfredo Ortiz earned the accolades with a career- and-genre-spanning set bridging decades, cultures and influences.
The sextet opened with “Flat Top Box” and “Love Special Delivery” from 2021’s covers album, Native Sons, songs that featured Berlin’s baritone saxophone underscoring the 1950s vibe. Hidalgo’s Hendrixian guitar solo on the latter added trippy color to the song Rosas typically calls “LSD.”
It was off to the stratosphere from there with Lozano, who spent the gig seated on his amp, and Ortiz signaling a deep-pocketed “Dream in Blue” with an extended sax solo from Berlin. Rosas was on maracas and Pérez on jaraña for “Maricela,” instrumentation that would be reprised later on “Chuco’s Cumbia.”
Jazz was the hallmark of a 10-minute plea for peace on “The Neighborhood;” blues and a dedication to John Lee Hooker on “Don’t Worry Baby;” and the band looked to the East (“Kiko and the Lavender Moon”) and South (“Georgia Slop”) when Hidalgo strapped on a squeezebox and Pérez retuned temporarily to his original spot behind the kit.
Tumblr media
Though Lobos opening set was necessarily truncated, Berlin, Hidalgo and Rosas had more stage time to come, as each sat in during Feat’s performance, bookended with “Fat Man in the Bathtub” and “Feats Don’t Fail Me Now.” Harmonica blower Michael LoBue also appeared for “Mellow Down Easy” (with Hidalgo) and “Long Distance Call” (Rosas) from Sam’s Place, the band’s 2024 blues covers album with Clayton on lead vocals.
Tumblr media
These songs, Payne’s “Oh Atlanta,” and 1988’s “Hate to Lose Your Lovin’” sounded like the band that recorded them, as Sharrard (Gregg Allman Band) is more adept at channeling Craig Fuller than George.
Other tracks from Feat’s golden era were less successful. “Willin’” featured a mandolin solo and was akin to John Mayer singing “Ripple” for Dead & Company; Leone (Chris Robinson Botherhood) didn’t quite capture the essence of “Old Folks Boogie;” and “Dixie Chicken” - outfitted with trumpet, bass and synth solos - lost its momentum in the gratuitous showcases.
Tumblr media
But “Cold, Cold, Cold,” “A Apolitical Blues,” “Spanish Moon” and “Skin it Back” - the latter two with Berlin reading charts from a piece of paper taped to a mic stand and honking on a baritone sax - almost sounded like Little Feat. Not quite. But almost.
Tumblr media
In the end, Los Lobos met the absurdly high expectations that come with being the best live band in America on any given night, while Little Feat exceeded the more-modest hopes for a group of veterans and ringers.
Grade card: Little Feat with Los Lobos at PNC Pavilion - 6/18/24 - B/A

Rod Serling ֍ Sheldon Allman & Bill Walsh in The Twilight Zone Season 1 Episode 22: The Monsters Are Due in Maple Street (1960)
ALIEN 1: [watching the riot on Maple Street from a hilltop: last lines] Understand the procedure now? Just stop a few of their machines and radios and telephones and lawnmowers. Throw them into darkness for a few hours, and then sit back and watch the pattern.
ALIEN 2: And this pattern is always the same?
ALIEN 1: With few variations. They pick the most dangerous enemy they can find, and it's themselves. All we need do is sit back and watch.
ALIEN 2: Then I take it this place, this Maple Street is not unique.
ALIEN 1: By no means. Their world is full of Maple Streets and we'll go from one to the other and let them destroy themselves. One to the other, one to the other, one to the other . . .

3, 4, 21, 24 (for as many of the gang as you want to answer :3)
Okay okay I finally got all the songs to work on this post
3.)What song describes your OC
Briar:
Ferox:
Molli:
Myrala (particurly tav-timeline Myrala):
Poppy: I didn’t have anything prepared but my immediate first thought was
4.) What song describes your OC and their partner/love interest?
Answered in the previous ask BUT let’s do some alternate takes
Briar x Gortash:
(Briar would NEVER call it love but everything else about this is 💯)
Ferox x Gortash:
Molli x Astarion:
21.)What song best describes their relationship with their enemy?
Answered in previous and unfortunately I don’t have enough songs for this to give more. I need to do more playlist building *sigh*
24.) Can they play instruments? If so, what do they play?
Briar’s got nothing. Not musically inclined at all.
Ferox used to play reeeeally basic drums when he was growing up with goblins, just as a sorta “we’re all drinking here take a drum” kinda thing and it’s something that Myrala tried to encourage him to actively enjoy, leaning into that whole art and dance aspect of Eilistraee and also finding something *good* about his upbringing because it wasn’t all bad and nothing is completely irredeemable! But he hasn’t touched a drum since she died and I think post tadpole it’s not going to be something that be picks up again because it’s not like the drums or the music were ever the important part of all that.
Obviously Molli plays instruments. Her dad was a failed/retired bard who had a BUNCH of old instruments around the house and she learned to play a bit on a lot of different things. Her main instrument is concertina, followed by flute, but she can also kinda hold her own with trumpet, violin, and lute (in that order. She can really only do basic chords on lute and it takes her a while to remember them)
You’d think that Myrala would be more musical as a cleric of Eilistraee, but she actually only has a tambourine. For her, music and dance isn’t something she aspires to be skilled at as much as it is just a thing to enjoy.
And finally Poppy has drum circle jam skills and nothing else.

There’s the Mount Rushmore that everyone knows about in South Dakota, but if you watch sports talk shows, a popular topic these days is to ask the talking heads for their Mount Rushmore of the four best in a particular area of sports. It might be teams, or players at a specific position, or it might be coaches.
It’s an interesting discussion most of the time because choosing the four best in any field can be somewhat daunting. We don’t do sports here, but I thought it might be interesting to apply the Mount Rushmore discussion to music. So, what I’ve done below is choose those I think belong on a Mount Rushmore of Performers, Songwriters, Vocalists, Guitarists, Pianists, Drummers, and Bassists. I didn’t limit myself to any genre because I listen to all kinds of music. I simply chose those artists I think most highly of; artists I listen to because they make a personal connection with me when I hear them.
In the case of songwriters, however, I broke the category down into three sections. The first is for composers – those who compose the music. The second is for lyricists – those who write the words. And the final songwriter category is for both music and lyrics. I find those who write songs for a living are often better at one thing than another. Maybe the music is wonderful, but they don’t write lyrics, or they aren’t as adept at lyrics as they are at music. Some lyricists are amazing, but many have difficulty when it comes to writing a great melody. Of course, there are some songwriters who’ve mastered both sides of the craft in mostly equal measure. So, to be fair, I made separate categories.
I claim no particular expertise here. The only musical gift I possess is a great pair of ears. But for this, that’s all I need. Rather than question my choices, you might ask, instead, who you would choose, and why. If nothing else, it will define what you value most when you listen to music. (The names are listed in no particular order.)

Patricia Julia Brose was born on May 10, 1949, in New York City, the daughter of Laura and Bill Ballinger, a writer of mystery stories.
At age 12, Brose was placed in a foster home because of her mother’s barbiturate addiction.
She went to San Marcos Senior High high school in Santa Barbara, and Pepperdine University college in LA.
Tumblr media
Julia began snorting cocaine at 18 while she was dancing at the famous Whiskey a Go Go in Los Angeles. It was there she met John Densmore of The Doors, in 1967. He recalls: "This girl had LRP: Long Range Potential. Her name was Julia Brose, and her father … was remarried to a bubbly blonde who supposedy looked like Julia's real mother. Apparently the real mother drank quite a bit… Julia and I consummated our brand-new relationship that night. There were no male blue balls in the sixties!"
In 1968 she was working in the A & R department of Liberty Records.
Tumblr media
By 1969 Julia got pregnant and John didn't know what to do, he recalls: "…on the way back to LA, Julia hit me with the news she was pregnant! Everything was great with us, and now she was pregnant! I didn't want to be a husband yet, let alone a father! I could tell by the look in Julia's eyes that she was hoping I'd say "Let's have it". I couldn't believe it – I was numb. I had asked now and then if Julia was using any kind of birth control, but in 1969, the assumption was that it was the girl's responsability, and we had little dialogue on the subject. Now we had a major problem. I was loaded with so much shame about sex, being raised a Catholic, I didn't inquire how it happened. Was it an accident? I didn't know. But I knew I was incensed. I didn't want a kid and I could tell she did." They didn't know what to do, and in the end John Densmore found a doctor and Julia agreed. They went to Mexico where abortions could be done and it was a place where The Doors could play as well. The doctor and the nurse of the hospital were very nice, and they came in the room where abortions were practised. "There was one of those tables with the stirrups at the end to hold up the patient's legs. Julia must have noticed them, 'cause she started crying. Before we came to Mexico she'd agreed it was the best thing to do. Her tears were like daggers in my heart".
Some months later, John asked Julia to marry, and she agreed. In October 1970 they exchanged rings in hte Pacific Palidases. Robby and Lynn Krieger where the best man and bridesmaid. Jim Morrison sang “Bridal Chorus" at their wedding, but the marriage was short lived.
Her mother died of an overdose in 1972 aged 47.
Tumblr media
After five years of marriage Julia left Densmore for Berry Oakley, the bassist for the Allman Brothers band. When she was six months pregnant, he died in a motorcycle accident on November 1972. On March 30, 1973, their son Berry Duane Oakley was born. His godfather is The Doors guitarist Robby Krieger.
Tumblr media
As a single mother in ther 20s, she turned to heroin to cope with the loss of both her mother and Berry.
Tumblr media
In 1976 she married Chuck Negron, the singer for Three Dog Night. They both developed major heroin addictions.
By 1977, the year Julia Brose and Chuck Negron had their son Charles, Negron devoted his life to being a junkie. She herself snorted heroin in the delivery room before Charle's birth, according to Mother Jones magazine, they both did it. To pay for his habits, Chuck eventually sold everything he owned, including all of his gold albums. "Bit by bit, everything eroded," says Julia. "We took loans against the house, and eventually our telephone and power lines were turned off."
He blew through millions of dollars chasing the highs and she may have been worse. "When Chuck is asked if he ever knew anyone worse than him, he usually says me," admits Julia, a recovering drug addict. "But we had a great marriage because every drug we got was split 50-50." They were married 12 years.
She overdosed twice in her life, waking up in a hospital bed feeling like she’d been run over by a fleet of trucks. She lived.
Tumblr media
Julia lost her sister Connie to an overdose in 1984, which prompted her to sober up and leave her husband in 1985, and she checked herself at Cedars hospital. Then she went to school and worked as a drug counselor for decades.
Julia is certified as an Addiction Specialist since 1990, supervising and training residential addiction treatment staff.
By the mid-2000s, she had become a prominent advocate of “harm reduction,” which emphasizes making illicit drug use safer so users may seek treatment.
Tumblr media
On 2013 her youngest son was in life support because of an overdose, but luckily he went in recovery. As for 2013, she was a co-founder of “Moms United to end the War on Drugs” and a Board Member of “A New PATH (Parents for Addiction Treatment and Healing”) and lived in Sarasota, FL.
On 2015 she moved to Venice, Los Angeles, where she is devoted to her advocacy work in what’s known as “harm reduction.’’
On July 2017, her son’s fiancé overdosed, leaving an 8-year-old without a mother.
In 2017 she made headlines when she took issue with U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio at a town hall meeting in Manatee County on the opioid epidemic. She is an advocate for making illegal drug use safe in hopes that users will seek treatment. She runs the “Suncoast Harm Reduction Project,” which is a small group of volunteers who pass out Naloxone to addicts to counterattack opioid overdoses. Manatee County has the highest overdose rate in Florida. In 2014, according to Mother Jones magazine, there were 644 community programs in the nation that distributed free Naloxone and Florida had only one person doing it: Brose.
Julia finds herself driving to Manatee County too much as part of her group and says it is “ground zero’’ for drug overdoses, even worse than Los Angeles, where she used to live.

I never realized how many actors from True Blood have twins:
Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer: Sookie Stackhouse and Bill Compton
Sam Trammell: Sam Merlotte
Marshall Allman: Tommy Mickens
((I was randomly recommend an article that talked about Sam Trammell so that is why it popped in my head. I don’t know if any of the other actors have twins but I just thought this was an interesting fact)).

Fortunately, car title loans without a bank account are an accessible solution for Texas residents. Let’s explore how you can get a car title loan in Texas without needing bank verification, what the process entails, and tips for choosing the best lender.
Tumblr media
What Are Car Title Loans Without a Bank Account?
Car Title Loans are a type of secured loan where you use your vehicle’s title as collateral. Unlike traditional loans, these loans don’t require extensive credit checks or bank verification. Instead, the loan amount is based on the value of your vehicle, making it a great option for individuals without a bank account.
Benefits of Car Title Loans Without Bank Verification
Fast Approval: With minimal paperwork and no need for bank verification, the approval process is quick and straightforward.
No Credit Checks: Since your vehicle’s title secures the loan, your credit history is not a deciding factor.
Accessibility: Perfect for those who are unbanked or prefer not to share banking details.
Keep Driving Your Vehicle: Most lenders allow you to continue using your vehicle while repaying the loan.
Finding the Best Lenders for Car Title Loans in Texas
If you’re looking for a reliable lender, consider these tips:
Check Online Reviews: Research lenders to find one with positive customer feedback.
Compare Interest Rates: Look for a lender offering competitive rates to save on repayment costs.
Transparency: Choose lenders that clearly outline loan terms, fees, and repayment plans.
Customer Support: Select a lender that provides excellent customer service and answers your questions promptly.
Documents Needed for a Car Title Loan
To apply for a car title loan without a bank account in Texas, gather the following:
Vehicle Title: The title must be line-free and in your name.
Government-Issued ID: A valid driver’s license or ID card.
Proof of Income: Pay stubs, invoices, or any document proving your ability to repay the loan.
Proof of Residency: Utility bills or lease agreements.
Photos of Your Vehicle: Some lenders require detailed pictures to evaluate your car’s condition.
How to Apply for a No-Bank-Account Car Title Loan in Texas
Research Lenders: Identify lenders in Texas that offer car title loans without requiring bank verification.
Submit Your Application: Complete the lender’s application form online or in person.
Provide Required Documents: Submit the necessary documents for verification.
Receive Approval: Once your application is approved, you’ll receive your funds, often on the same day.
Tips for Managing Your Car Title Loan
Understand Loan Terms: Ensure you know the repayment schedule, interest rates, and fees.
Avoid Overborrowing: Only borrow what you need to minimize debt.
Communicate with Your Lender: If you’re facing challenges, reach out to discuss possible extensions or adjustments.
Alternatives to Car Title Loans
While car title loans are a convenient option, consider alternatives if they’re not suitable:
Personal Loans: Some lenders may offer personal loans without requiring a bank account.
Payday Loans: While often with high interest, they are another quick cash option.
Borrowing from Friends or Family: A trusted network might help without the burden of interest.

Song Review: String Cheese Incident - “Revival” (Live, May 19, 2024)
“Revival” got a fitting revival from the String Cheese Incident.
SCI turned in a stellar version of the Allman Brothers Band number May 19 in Maine. And it was fortunately captured on high-quality video and just released to the wider audience.
It climaxes with a joyful call-and-response between band and audience - Players: People can you feel it? Listeners: Love is everywhere! - accompanied by drums, percussion and handclaps. Iffy vocals from the stage notwithstanding, it’s a glorious moment.
The song proper finds Michael Kang and Bill Nershi doing a convincing imitation of the Allmans’ harmonizing guitars. Nershi sings it, takes a solo, hands off to keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth and locks back in with Kang before the aforementioned home stretch.
Grade card: String Cheese Incident - “Revival” (Live, May 19, 2024) - A-

Jimmy Vivino Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson
It had been six long, 4 1/2 COVID years since last I sat down with my old friend, multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer, and long-time musical director for Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Vivino. It was like coming home. Almost the same age, we have many shared (unbeknownst to us at the time) memories of concerts at The Filmore East, Watkins Glen, the glory daze of the NY club scene, and a bounty of mutual friends. Talk about being in one’s comfort zone.
Jimmy talked growing up in New Jersey, his carpenter trumpet-playing father, his talented brothers, Jerry and Floyd, and how they began and evolved - he talked Conan, Laura Nyro, Phoebe Snow, Donald Fagen, John Sebastian, Al Kooper,  Levon Helm, The Allman Brothers, Albert King, Tom Petty, Prince, Bruno Mars, Michael McDonald, Johnny Johnson, Hubert Sumlin,  Stevie Wonder, Muddy Waters, Pinetop Perkins, John Sebastian, The Dead, The Band, Harry Shearer, Paul Shaffer, whom he credits as his mentor, Leader of the Pack,  Broadway, Ronnie Spector, Felix Cavaliere, The Rascals, Frankie Valli, Slash, Sly Stone, The J. Geils Band, Elvis Costello, and the James Brown and Friends Set Fire To The Soul with Aretha, Robert Palmer, and Joe Cocker, that he orchestrated. Incredible stories all around, and this special is available on YouTube… wow - Snuff and I just watched it. Spectacular.
We talked about COVID and Jimmy joining Canned Heat, currently touring with them, and Bill Murray, as well as still doing shows with Will Lee and The Fab Faux. His first all-original album, Gonna Be 2 of Those Days, is due to drop in February, signed copies are available for pre-sale at jimmyvmusic.com He treated us to a track to close the show.
Life is busy, busy. busy… just the way Jimmy likes it. And so do we who follow and adore him. I so enjoyed every second of this. Jimmy needs to write a book and get all these stories down. He knows and has played with everyone. Such fun!

There is something so pleasingly swinging about this octet that once the first song, “Midnight Rider” kicks in, it’s all over but the shouting. Patti Spadaro Band "Glass Shatters"
Tumblr media
Patti Spadaro, known for her introspective, heartfelt songwriting and creative lead guitar work, brings a hopeful perspective to her music, aiming to inspire and unite. Her organic grooves, memorable original compositions, and spontaneous jam sessions are the trademarks of the Patti Spadaro Band, a group that firmly believes in the uplifting and transformative power of music. Her latest single, “Glass Shatters,” set to release on June 8, 2024, is a celebration of women and the historical milestone of the first female Vice President. Written by Spadaro, the track was recorded at Blue Door Recorders in Pittsburgh, showcasing local talent including Anne Celedonia (keys/vocals), background vocalists Cherylann Hawk, Jill Simmons & Alison McTavish, drummer and recording engineer Eric Kurtzrock, and bassist Ryan Black. The album “Bringing Me Back” features Spadaro’s passionate guitar work and vocals, harmonizing with singer Jill Simmons (Brown Eyed Women). The album is lifted by the drumming finesse of Jim Donovan (Rusted Root) and Eric Kurtzrock, with keyboard contributions from Skip Sanders (The Clarks, Bill Deasy). The tracks delve deep, exploring themes of self-discovery, integrity, love, freedom, joy, and passion. Spadaro’s musical journey started in Pennsylvania before taking her to the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, where she stood out as one of three female guitar students among 700 male counterparts. She later made waves in Los Angeles, releasing three albums, performing in renowned clubs, festivals, and beach bars, and touring extensively along the West Coast and throughout the southwestern US. Her band made a significant impact, securing extensive radio airplay and being named as one of LA’s Top Five Bands by KTLA-TV. Despite the success, she answered the call of her roots, returning to Pennsylvania to raise her two daughters and continuing her musical career. She released two more albums and continues to record and perform. Spadaro also imparts her knowledge of yoga, meditation, and Mindfulness in Music through college courses. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with various artists, performed at numerous venues and festivals, and opened for legendary acts like Little Feat, Eddie Van Halen, Melvin Seals & JGB. Her musical influences span various genres and eras, including Bonnie Raitt, Tedeschi/Trucks, The Grateful Dead, Natalie Merchant, John Mayer, Phish, Little Feat, The Allman Brothers, Michael Franti, Sara Bareilles, Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews Band, Counting Crows, and many more.
