This vintage Gillette safety razor is a utilitarian dream: It performs a basic function and it performs it VERY well. It's no surprise the the American military chose the 1940's Gillette Tech Ball End (Date-Code: predates coding; Govt Issue WW2) as the standard issue razor for GI's during WWII. After 80 years not only can these little razors still be found but they can still gently clear cut the toughest body hair you can throw at it and it'll keep coming back for more.

This little clean machine is a three piece safety razor and screws in straight and tight in order to provide a close, clean shave when paired with a quality blade. It's 10/10 on smooth functionality however the metal components do show some signs of aesthetic wear, particularly where the bronze plating is showing uneven wear on the head and top and the handle. Outside of the plating wear, given proper care this vintage Gillette Tech should last to shave another generation. While this razor has been cleaned using an ultrasonic cleaner, disinfected and polished to bring back it's natural luster it is highly recommended that you fully wash this razor with hot water and disinfectant soap prior to using.

If you count yourself among those who feel that twist to open and adjustable razors are too much of a hassle you'll be right at home in the simplicity of use with the Tech. Pair this tiny titan with an Astra blade and a quality shave soap and you'll find yourself swearing off the modern disposables for the rest of your days.

Doc Martens are in a toxic relationship with us. They're not quality boots any more, despite the price tag on them. The soles are glued on and can't be replaced. That iconic yellow stitching is purely decorative. The soles wear out so fast! And most of them are "vegan leather" which is just a fancy way of saying plastic. Scuffs are forever, they can't be shined or repaired. Solovair is more similar to how Docs used to be (they used to manufacturer for Docs) but even those have decreased in quality over the years. If you want quality leather boots now, you have to go somewhere like Nick's or White's and shell out boucoup bucks. Lower priced options are available too that will still last you longer and be more comfortable than Docs, just look for a Goodyear welt.

A Favorite Watch

“Seiko 5” Cedar Park, 2023 I wore my Seiko 5 watch today for the first time in a long time. I still love this small automatic watch, even if it is a little fast (adding about 30 seconds a day). The design is simple and classic, and it doesn’t weigh much so I hardly feel it. I’ll probably keep this and my Seiko 007 forever. BIFL!

I've been on a BIFL kick the last few years. Decided to review.

Danner Cascade Light II review --

FANTASTIC boot. Have worn for about 2 years now and no buyers remorse $400 later. Very comfortable out of the box. True to size, comfortable with insole or winter socks. Great grip. Water resistant. In great condition still after 2 years of hikes. Biggest plus is being local, so resoling as needed will ensure they last. Absolutely the last pair of hiking boots I'll ever need to buy. HIGHLY recommend.

SOREL Caribou Winter Boot --

New regular snow boots for SURE. They do amazing in snow and ice. Super warm and thick. Very sturdy boot. True to size - for a winter boot. Snug and secure fit, very comfortable. Worth the money full price even though I got mine 70% off at the employee store

Dr Martens 1460 --

Classic and versatile but also heavy and impractical for the most part. Very stylish and sturdy. Before getting my Danner boots I resorted to wearing the Docs on a couple of camping trips with decent luck. Held up well and protected my ankles. These are now my metal show boots, mostly. They hold up. Should have sized down one for everyday use. Lesson learned.

Dr Marten Combs Poly --

Most comfortable ever. Practical for everything. Reasonably water-resistant. Lightweight. Sized down a full size; best results for sure. Goes with everything. Suitable for warm or cold weather.

Dr Marten Blaire --

Cute as fuck. Easy break in. Should have sized down one as it runs about a half size big. Bit of wiggle room. Pretty comfortable. Not as versatile as most other styles but makes for a great dressy warm weather sandal.

Sperry Saltwater Rain Boot --

Chucked 'em after a year of use. Garbage. Soaks through!!!!

Hunter Wellington Short Boot (gloss) --

No bloom. Break in period was brief but necessary, shit was hella snug. Not very warm, even with the boot sock, but stays dry. Downside is they aren't warm AT ALL even with the boot sock and lined winter socks, rubber gets cold then everything inside gets cold. Not suitable for long periods out in the cold. Very durable, no soak-through issues. Not comfortable for driving at all, but I didn't get them to drive in. Overall a good rain boot best for torrential rain conditions.

Fjallraven Kanken 15" --

Sturdy and suitable for *lightweight travel. Despite the back padding, the straps are not suitable for carrying heavy items on a hike. Fits enough for a day trip IF you're packing light. Great as a work bag. Travels well. Water resistant as fuck. Hella sturdy. Super comfortable for a medium weight load. Well suited for short hikes or city/work travel.

Fjallraven Kanken Mini --

10/10 this is my new EDC bag. Fits EVERYTHING I need with room to carry extra and is secure. Sturdy material and structure. Extremely well suited for everyday use. Practical design. Goes with everything as far as my aesthetic goes and cute as fuck. Comfy to wear on my back.

Kanken note: these bags are designed for weight-conscious packing. Any excessive weight will make them uncomfortable as fuck. Proper weight distribution and not overpacking is key.
