Distinguishing Gossip from Ethical Information Sharing
Sometimes, sharing the private information of others is nothing more than gossip; however, on other occasions, it can be an act of virtue that protects the innocent. The distinction between gossiping and legitimately sharing private information often hinges on the intent, the context, and the potential outcomes. Gossip generally involves sharing private information about someone with the intent…

Unveiling the Symbolism of the Ambulance's Serpent on a Pole
In the midst of our everyday experiences, there are often hidden messages waiting to be uncovered. Take, for example, the seemingly ordinary symbol of an ambulance—a serpent wrapped around a pole. Beyond its mundane appearance lies a profound biblical reference that illuminates our understanding of God’s mercy and judgment. In the ancient narrative of Exodus, as the Israelites journeyed from…

Thinking about how after silco lost his eye he goes from being a very physically capable revolutionary to someone who is disabled and can no longer do any of that. No depth perception means no more jumping across roofs, no more fighting because you can’t dodge, throw, or aim super well. Nerve damage that’s spreading probably resulting in limited physical capabilities, over time he has to wear a supportive brace. Probably can’t run that fast or do much of anything combat wise, and how vander, who was already this like, icon of physical power, took what little silco had. Thinking about his speech about how power doesn’t come to who’s fastest or strongest and how he probably had to tell himself that to rationalize his loss.

"Personally, I have enjoyed working with Jeremy, in my one-on-one scenes.  There was one in the first season, and then a mirror of that in the second season with the dagger. I loved those scenes with him where it wasn’t about exposition and it wasn’t about the plot, but it was purely about the twisted father-son relationship that they had.  Those were the most enjoyable bits of screen acting that I’ve ever done because they were so still and so confrontational." — DAVID OAKES

Before we get to the finale, I just want to say it's the way Rhaenyra is consistently, deliberately, physically associated with dragons for me. In both seasons. She grits her teeth and cries out during birth and Syrax roars in harmony. She turns her head and dragons growl. She and Vermithor slow blink at each other like cats.
Like, sorry, that's not a human person, that's a misplaced magical creature. That's a dragon born in the wrong body. Hatched from the wrong egg. Rhaenyra, you may not be the Prince That Was Promised but you are a dragon and you will always be famous.

Samson and Delilah
Artist: Pompeo Girolamo Batoni (Italian, 1708-1787)
Date: 1788
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit, Michigan, United States
Description
Samson and Delilah portrays the crucial moment in the Old Testament narrative in which Delilah has clipped off the long locks of the Israelite warrior. At the urging of his rivals, the Philistines, Delilah had tricked Samson into revealing that his hair was the source of his superhuman strength. Still holding a pair of shears in one hand, she signals with the other toward the band of soldiers waiting to overpower the fallen hero. Known primarily for his portraits of wealthy British tourists abroad, Pompeo Batoni also produced history paintings such as this one, depicting moralizing subjects drawn from historical and religious sources. By the mid-1750s, his narrative paintings had become so costly that only the wealthiest visitors to Rome could afford them.
Biblical Narrative | Judges 16:18-20
Now when Delilah realized that he had confided to her all his heart, she sent and called for the Philistine lords saying, “Come up this time, for he has told me all his heart.” So the Philistine lords came up to her and brought the silver in their hand. Then she made him sleep upon her knees, and she called for a man and had the seven locks of his head shaved off. She even began to humiliate him while his strength departed from him. Then she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” When he awoke from his sleep, he thought, “I’ll go out as at other times, and shake myself off.” He did not comprehend that Adonai had departed from him.

maybe unpopular opinion but i don't like the headcanon/concept or whatever of jessica being a lucifer plant like how brady was. like there's something much more miserable to me about the one non-lucifer orchestrated person in sam's life, the one clean and pure aspect of it, dying bc sam strayed too far from him. and also sams mind corrupting her memory in the cage. and through his nightmares or whatever. it also makes lucifer appearing to sam as jess that one time that much worse. tainting her memory because of sam. or whatever. yeah.

now can i tell you about how i realized ‘ adam’s ribs ‘ is a reference to the biblical story of god taking adam’s rib to create eve , and how the episode parallels the story of adam because just as god took away adam’s rib the war took away hawkeye’s ribs which . however , instead of making something beautiful as god did with eve , the writers added a twist of irony because there’s nothing beautiful about the meatball surgery hawkeye must face . but at the same time it’s still a parallel because just as the taking away of adam’s rib inadvertently led to the downfall of man , the taking away of hawkeye’s ribs forces hawk to face the ugly side of man to which one can argue is the same ‘ downfall ‘ … there’s also some interesting implications in comparing adam to hawk but ( looks at the camera ) there’s not time to unpack ALL of that

i gotta say ive been digging through your blog and you have truly phenomenal takes but i must know
what are your thoughts on saul and david? ive been doing research for a paper on them on and off for a while and am currently working my way through miscall's analysis of 1 samuel and id love to get the opinion of someone not writing in the early 80s
love ur stuff man keep it up!!!!
god's first and second king. the king who needed god's love most, and the king who did not. the king who deserved it, the king who did not.
saul is un-done from the moment of his anointing. god starts mourning him early: with the call of samuel, the grieving begins. saul loses samuel. saul loses samuel again. saul loses samuel again. the music can no longer console saul. he's lost god and, unbelievably, he's lost samuel again--for a final time, now. when saul kills himself, it is the singular most troubling death god undergoes in the hebrew bible.
enter david, beloved in ways only god can articulate. david whose gaze is not voyeuristic but entirely violent. david who swallows whole bath water, dizzying himself on desire. david who loves jonathan just enough to lose him. david who can do no wrong. beautiful, calculating. filling a hole god never anticipated having. a dead king filling the hole of a dead king for a god who will never recover from the monarchy until he auto-incarnates and, finally, feels the penetrating death on his own body. god will spend centuries dying to feel what saul felt. david is the first attempt on god's part to do this. but he is not the last
