I think it’s kind of interesting how this flashback implies that before her scorpion was killed, Wednesday had the personality she was depicted with before the 90s.

Bianca: Ugh. Enough with the puppy eyes. Here, take your damned ball b—

Them Having A Crush On You

Wednesday: When she has a crush on someone she tends to observe you closely and try to learn as much as she can about you, while also trying to act natural and not suspicious in order to avoid exposing her true feelings for you. She tries to be subtle and look for small clues, like body language or changes in behavior, that would suggest you might also be interested in her. She tries to be nice and attentive but mainly keeps her usual level of sarcastic humor.

Enid: When she has a crush on you, she finds herself thinking about you all the time. She'll start noticing small things like the way you laugh, or the tone of your voice, and it makes her heart swoon. She also wants to be around you all the time, just to be near you. When she's with someone she has a crush on, she gets nervous and giddy, like a schoolgirl. She'll also act shy around you, or try to get you to notice her by being extra friendly and playful.

Xavier: He becomes a bit more clingy and possessive than usual. He also tends to become more playful and flirtatious around the person he's crushing on. However, he also becomes more cautious and anxious around you, fearing rejection or messing things up. Overall, he just becomes a lot more emotionally invested in you, making sure that every interaction is meaningful and that you always feel appreciated and wanted.

Rowan: He blushes easily and avoids eye contact. He overthinks every little detail about you and daydreams about scenarios that probably wouldn't happen he feels. He sometimes forgets what he is talking about when you enter the room and becomes easily distracted by you. He also tries to act "cool" which probably makes him look like a lovesick fool.

Tyler: He usually gets a bit shy around you. He tends to smile more and become a bit flustered when you have conversations. He tries to talk to you as much as possible and may even try to make you laugh with jokes and funny anecdotes. If it's a true crush then he usually thinks about you a lot and daydreams about being with you but will always give you free coffee and snacks.

Ajax: At the beginning, he may avoid your company in an attempt to appear cool and relaxed. He may come off as aloof or indifferent, but in his mind, he is constantly thinking about you. As time goes on and he becomes more comfortable with you, he begins to open up little by little. He might try to impress you with his skills, knowledge, interests, or any other admirable qualities. He will attempt to interact with you more often, such as by initiating conversations and spending time with you. He will seek to learn more about you and show interest in you.

Bianca: If she has a crush on you, she typically becomes more aware of your presence and wants to spend more time with you. She'll try to make excuses to be around you, like offering to help you with something or joining in on activities you're doing. She also tends to get a little shy and nervous around you, and she might try to flirt a bit if she gets a chance. It's all very subtle though, she's not one to be overly obvious about it.

My Thoughts on the Wednesday Novelization:

Okay so I have no clue how long this post is going to be, so bear with me. This is coming from someone who has been hyperfixated on the show for over a year and has watched it through multiple times, written fanfiction about it, and debated the characters and their motivations tirelessly.

1. Characterization

First up is the big hitter. The characterization of Wednesday specifically, since the book is written in her voice. I’ve seen a lot of controversy surrounding this. A lot of people have been saying that Wednesday was too emotional, that she was too sympathetic and cared too much about what other people think. To this, I heartily disagree.

We see throughout the book how she gradually begins caring more about the others around her. At first, she sees them only as allies; which is a very Wednesday thing to do. She only compromises because people like Enid or Tyler offer her loyalty, and she feels the need to offer something in return. And of course, the more they offer her their loyalty, the more she feels as though she can open up to them. She’s still human, after all, Addams or not. While most people would assume (wrongly) that Wednesday operated on a strictly “take, not give” mentality, it’s clear in the show itself that this isn’t the case. She still compromises in the show. The only reason people don’t agree now is because they created their own perceptions on why Wednesday was compromising, while it was clear to others all along that this was because she wanted to keep her allies close in case she needed help.

Wednesday, in the novelization, approaches everything from a strategical standpoint. Which is exactly how I’d expect her to approach things. She keeps a careful catalogue of her enemies and suspects, of who she can or can’t trust with evidence. Which, again, is what I had gathered from Jenna’s acting in the show.

Concerning the care she felt for Enid, among others:

I do not think the way she felt about Enid or the way their relationship developed was out of character at all. Wednesday said it herself, it felt to her as though Enid was the only one who accepted her up front no matter who she was or what she said or did. Enid was the only one who didn’t expect her to be someone else or a simple projection of what she wanted. Wednesday appreciated Enid’s willingness to be an ally even knowing that Wednesday wasn’t a good person. And it caused her to grow attached to the one person who accepted her no matter what. Even when Wednesday put her in danger, Enid still came back. And Wednesday appreciated that more than anything. I really think it’s incorrect to say that it’s out of character how much Wednesday cared about Enid. Enid was Wednesday’s first real friend, and put her life on the line for Wednesday. Of course they’re going to be inseparable, in Wednesday’s words, after something like that.

2. Theme

I’ve read a lot of books and done a lot of English classes and writing in my time. I usually look for themes in books, and it’s pretty clear to me that the theme of this book is friendship and navigating it, as corny as that sounds.

The entire book follows Wednesday learning what it means to be a true friend. What it means to open up and be vulnerable with others, what it means to put trust and confidence in them, and what it means to rely on others. Towards the end, there’s a passage where she realizes she’s never been alone.

In this book, Wednesday learned what it means to grow and foster a community of people who care about you. People who you can rely on. She comes to care about Enid, Eugene, even Bianca. All of them help her in some way, and all of them give her a shoulder to rely on at some point. She learns that having allies are nice, but having friends, people who are truly in your corner, is even better. And that there are specific ways to treat friends, and specific ways to keep them. She learned that sometimes compromises are important, and that it’s okay to not agree with some things, but it doesn’t mean that has to be the end of the friendship. And she learned just how deeply her care for her friends, as well as their care for her, truly goes.

One could say that this book is corny. One could say that it’s cringe, or that it’s not canon to them. All of that is completely fine. But in my eyes, this book has absolutely done Wednesday’s character justice and proven what I already knew: she’s not a psychopath like so many people paint her out to be. Maybe she was in previous iterations, but this is a new iteration, a new character. And she most definitely cares deeply about those who show their loyalty to her, about those who prove to her that they can trust her. Enid, Thing, Eugene, even Bianca. They created a sense of community to battle a common enemy and won. And Wednesday learned that she couldn’t have done it on her own.

I’m excited to see how her character continues to develop in season 2 and further. I’m excited to see how those around her affect her in new ways, and who she’ll ultimately grow to be. I loved this novelization of season one, and I loved the insight it gave us into Wednesday’s thoughts and her character arcs.

This is so random and absurd but we know people don’t know much about Hydes. Wouldn’t it be hilarious and cute if Tyler could hear "the note only a dog can hear"—the one Wednesday hit and broke that one student’s glasses?

Imagine him getting annoyed and flustered because of how loud and screechy it sounds in his ears.

Even better if she uses it as a danger signal, and only Tyler understands what it means—so he transforms and rushes to her in the woods.

Ajax: Great, he tore my clothes again. I'm not lending him another piece of clothing. He does this every damn time!

Enid: Oh god, are we gonna do this again?! Sure, the overeager puppy act is cute, but I really don’t need to see him butt naked every time!

Bianca: One thing’s for sure—they’re becoming more and more mysterious with the way they communicate.

Eugene: Um, guys? I need a new pair of glasses.

Remember when I said Enid would be the first to find out that Tyler loves Wednesday for real?

Bianca would be a close second, I just see them working together some how this season, and Bianca's going to observe Tyler taunting or teasing Wednesday flirtatiously, and Bianca's just gonna be like..

"Oh my God you loser, you fell in love with her on accident didn't you!?"

And a whole conversation would commence from there.

Sitting On Their Lap

Wednesday: She would be caught off guard by the unexpected action. Depending on her trust level with her partner and your intentions, she could either push you off her lap or embrace the physical intimacy.

Enid: Enid is a very open-minded person, so she wouldn’t mind you sitting on her lap. She’ll probably laugh and call you cute for trying to be so close to her. She might even play along and kiss or snuggle you. Ultimately, she'll be happy that you feel comfortable and close to her.

Xavier: When you sit on his lap, he feels a heightened sense of excitement and intimacy. He will wrap his arms around your waist and pull you closer, expressing his gratitude for the privilege of holding you in his lap. He will kiss your neck, stroke your hair, and provide other physical comfort and affection, making the experience of lap-sitting one that is both intimate and pleasurable.

Rowan: He would feel both excited and nervous. He would feel excited because he would be in close proximity to you and he would be able to feel your body heat, which would remind him of your connection. However, he would also feel nervous because it would be a new experience in your relationship and he wouldn't know how to react or what to say. He would want to make sure that he didn't do anything that could make you uncomfortable or feel awkward.

Tyler: He loves it when you sit on his lap. It's a very intimate and romantic gesture that makes him feel close to you. He usually makes direct eye contact, taking your hand in his, and strokes your hair or face. If the situation calls for him to move, he will either rise to his feet and hold you close to him or gently lift you off his lap and have you sit next to him. Either way, he makes sure to provide lots of physical affection throughout and after the interaction.

Ajax: He feels immense joy and gratitude when you sit on his lap. He is filled with a sense of wonder that someone is willing to give him that much affection and trust. He feels a surge of passion and a deep connection to you. It is a truly magical experience that he cherishes. He can't deny that he also feels a little excitement in anticipating what may come next. His heart flutters with happiness and anticipation when you sit on his lap. 

Bianca: When you sit on her lap, her heart rate usually rises in anticipation, and she has an uncontrollable urge to cuddle and kiss you. She will place her hands on your hips and pull you close, holding you in her arms with a warm embrace. Your noses will often touch and lips will touch from time to time, as you enter a realm of sensuality and adoration.

I desperately need a scene where Morticia and Francoise dual - specifically for the leadership role of the fencing team. I have a theory that Francoise and Morticia were once on friendly terms, not exactly close friends but certainly more than strangers. However, their relationship turns sour when they began competing for the leadership role. I believe at one point, Francoise wanted to desperately be approved by the other outcasts in Nevermore so her wanting to be leader makes sense. Once Morticia defeats her, Francoise can’t help it but becomes bitter towards Morticia. From her point of view, Morticia has everything: she’s the most popular girl and well-liked by everyone. So why couldn’t Morticia let Francoise have this one thing? 

Not only would it nicely parallel the dual of Bianca and Wednesday - popular girl (Morticia) social outcast (Francoise) but It would mirror Tyler and Wednesday’s dynamic in season one. Just like Tyler, Francoise could be serval steps ahead and outmaneuvering her opponent them, only to be ultimately defeated by Morticia, similar to how Wednesday triumphed in the end. 

(Additionally I have this theory that Francoise was actually a more skilled fencer than Morticia but due to popular vote, Morticia became the leader of the team. (This can explore themes of how certain outcasts are accepted up to a point while lesser outcasts are excluded.))
