Imagine in Shrek 5 the gang is looking for Puss cuz they need his help for the quest and there in a place when suddenly explosions go off and there’s chaos and music.

And everyone is just “whelp that was easy”

But then fireworks go off and cause another explosion and near them lands another cat??

Everyone is like “wtf” but Puss immediately gets heart eyes and goes “amor!!!❤️❤️❤️”

And now everyone’s mental health is going to have to deal with the fact that omg there’s two of them and where did that dog come from?

Not that long ago I threw out the idea of creating a Journey to the West reading group, and was delighted to see a fair number of people interested in the prospect! So in the effort to see this come to fruition while still taking into account everyone's different schedules, time zones, and busy lives, here's my general proposal for how this will work:

The version of Xiyouji that this reading group will start with will be the Anthony C. Yu English translation, firstly because while long it is the most complete and accurate translation out there, and secondly because thanks to @journeytothewestresearch it is completely free to download and read as pdfs! I'll create a separate blog specifically for this reading group, which will act as something of a hub/archive for people's analysis, art, reactions, memes, criticisms, additions of context, etc. as we make our way through the journey. The schedule that I'm thinking of would be to do one chapter per week, which would be more or less 20 pages per week. This group would "meet" every Sunday, which would be the day participants are encouraged to finish that week's chapter and/or submit their creative/analytical pieces about it. Sunday would also be the day where I'd give a quick recap on that week's chapter, and would mass reblog anything participants submitted to have that work in the archive. This is what I imagine for starters, but if it works out well we could try organizing larger events or even chat rooms.

Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in a JTTW themed reading group! Of course people should feel free to offer any advice, concerns, criticisms, or questions, but if this sounds like a solid plan for a tumblr based book club then I'll get to work on the reading group blog and a pinned post that will detail where people can access the Yu pdfs along with a good summary of the entire journey, and provide something of a tentative reading schedule. So here's hoping this sounds like a good set up, and here's looking forward to getting this journey started!

@tiredmiddlechild and @pinkshgumis and @millspyxis are fantastic artists- seeing your illustrations is so unreal to me?! The attention to detail/expressions/colors and everything is so amazing?! Your art gives me strength to drive Asha insane! ((I have more angst I'm waiting to unleash on @millspyxis ))

@guineapigwitch your asha among us powerpoint/slides was amazing- I can't stop laughing at how in character it was! (You also probably predicted how Nachos/Cepheus’s relationship is going to go down in the future)

@iprincezzinuyoukai I appreciate reading your comments as well! You're pretty perceptive when it comes to spotting little things in the lore- that I usually try to hide. ((We'll see how well some of your comments age))

@rylxdreams I had a super good laugh when I read your comment on the noble girls ((yeah they do need water or something-))and the library chapter! ((Funny story- I rewrote that chapter like 3 times- it was KILLING me))

OKAY OKAY HEAR ME OUT HERE

1. tang is a fan of. all mythology. and i mean all of it. i myself am not much of a movie person and tang will probably get that indifference as well but he's definitely seen httyd (at least 1&2 i haven't seen the third unfortunately). so tang would LOVE this song. has probably sang it for/with pigsy before for fun cuz its one of his favorites.

2. VERY FIRST EPISODE OF LMK PIGSY KNOWS SANDY HAS A BOAT AT THE VERY LEAST AND OFFERS TO GO ASK HIM SO THEY CAN GET TO FFM. even if he's never been on the boat prior to then he definitely knows where to get one

3. he's fought alongside sandy iirc so he KNOWS his way around a fight

4. we know from the episode Benched that pigsy has the voice of an angel (thank you sandy) meaning he's more than capable of singing it

they could already be married OR. this could be how he proposes to tang as well as how the gang first hears tang sing. and when the song's over and tang opens his eyes while giggling he sees the ring as pigsy finally pops the question... 🥺🥺
