BG3's Most Wanted Non-Dateable NPC - Day 7 Results!

First week of the poll is over! From now on I probably won't be doing daily updates, but I appreciate the patience from anyone who wants to continue to follow along! This thing has 670 form responses and over 950 individual votes, which is about 950 more votes than I expected it to get!

In an exciting turn of events, Gortash has finally been overtaken for second place by Rolan! Raphael still reigns in first though, which I'm sure he'd love.

A funny SFW Zhentarim adventure done IASIP style

After the Fist find the hideout at Waukeen's Rest, Salazon blows it up, forcing Zarys, Rugan, Olly, Jarg and Isbeth to escape into the Underdark. A Zhent always makes their delivery, though.

Excerpt:

With a groan, Zarys surveyed who made it with her. Rugan, Olly, Jarg and the wolf. Not even Bellar. Salazon, that twit. Fucked up the barrels, brought the whole place down. He'd better be alive; she needed to wring his skinny wizard neck. Plus, he was the only other one here with a brain. At least the cargo was alright. Whatever it was rattled around in the bloody huge chest. Stupid way to pack it. "My dice," Jarg groaned. "Think the others made it?" Olly asked. "Likely," Zarys said darkly. They'd all survived worse, even the time she poisoned everyone trying to get a better team.

Twoot Twoot - A fic to toot your own horn!

Well, I've got 2 chapters of How To Keep a Man and Lose a Devil up and I'm hoping to get chapter 3 up today if not tomorrow, so let's say that one.

I think the reason I recommend this one is firstly because I have a good deal of it outlined and partially written, and secondly because I'm trying to really lean into both banter and hopefully a plot that's intriguing with a few twists on the way and is the most upbeat thing I'm working on.

I had to pick my jaw up off the floor upon reading Moving On by @benicemurphy, which is a short imagining of a continuation of Part 10 of the Northern Bastards series. Never mind how amazing that someone was moved to write this, the prose and emotions in this one-shot fic are so moving and heart-wrenching. Perfection.

I don't have any gifted fics, but! A shout-out to Owleeve on Twitter/X, who gifted me the images used for my profile picture and banner here as part of a Secret Santa exchange in 2023, a whole year ago!

As far as fics go, let's pair it with an older gift too, A Pound of Discretion by @milkymosaic, who incidentally was the recipient of the AradinxZevlor one-shot that now serves as the prologue of the Northern Bastards series. This sweet fic is a lovely interaction between Gale and Rolan complete with confessions of feelings, absolutely adorable and you'll finish that final sentence with a grin.

Synopsis: Salazon is preparing a fire-trap at the entrance to his gang's hideout. We can either sneak up on him or be sneaked up on in turn - either way we have to convince him we should be there or he'll get skittish and blow us all up. In general he's jumpy and suspicious of us, but relieved when we convince him we're a friend. Think an inexperienced guard pointing a gun at us when he's been told to be on alert.

i read it like:

rugan recruited her. held her hair when she puked up her guts first time she killed. now the fucker's gone and gotten a bunch of do-gooders involved.

in her waystation. that she has to blow up. through no fault of her own because what the fuck happened up there and why. pereghost is going to want to know what happened in detail and he's not going to like her answers.

so she's throwing her weight around in public to the rest of the zhents. rugan has the experience but she is supposed to have the authority and she doesn't want them questioning hers. they smell weakness like a shark smells blood.

not when she's got to lead them into the underdark next and it's rugan's fault she's a zhent swordhar to begin with. that fucker. this is all his fault and he's not even doing the reassuring-to-youngsters-out-of-their-depth thing. that she doesn't miss. at all. just ask her.

and rugan, bless him, after his initial face drop - zarys is sick of hearing about this hero who came and saved him before it turns out he wasn't exaggerating (much), the hero is gorgeous - just lets it roll off his shoulders and flirts with you anyway. in front of zarys.

while she's trying to come to terms with being lucky to even get to the pereghost what with what lies between them and the gate

Not getting over the duality between when you meet Rugan for the first time and he plays the Big Bad Zhent, promising you that Zarys will have your head if you steal their cargo, threatening you to be sure you don't cheat him if you convince him to make a deal "the Black Network had eyes and blades everywhere", kinda showing off with "I'll tell my associates to expect you".

And when you reach their hideout and Zarys just fucking roasts him publicly non. stop. "YOU GAVE THEM THE PASSWORD??" "You have fire in you, if only Rugan was like that we wouldnt be in this situation". She's really like "Yes Rugan is the moron of the crew urgh Im so done I will complain about him to every single person walking by"
