MFB OC Week Rules and FAQ

This post will describe what exactly MFB OC Week is, as well as establish a few rules so that everyone can enjoy this event better :)

What is MFB OC Week?

MFB OC Week is a online event that takes place on a currently undecided week sometime in 2024, dedicated to celebrating all the wonderful Metal Fight Beyblade OCs out there. All forms of media are accepted for this event as long as Tumblr supports it, so art, stories, edits, memes, music, and videos are all allowed. 

Participating in this event is very simple. All you need to do is make content of your MFB OC, and tag it with either/both #mfbocweek and #mfbocweek2024 . You may also tag the MFB OC Week account in case we miss the post. While this event will mainly take place on Tumblr, any creator who would like to share their creations to other social media platforms is welcome to.

Although both moderators (@masterofdemise and @lady-lazagna) are mainly into Metal Fight Beyblade, fans of all the other Beyblade generations are welcome to participate as well. Whether you are a Bakuten Shoot, Burst, X, or Beywheelz/Beyraiderz fan, you are allowed to take part and we will still reblog your work!

Let’s get into some rules.

Do I have to follow the provided prompts?

Technically no. They are there to give general ideas and inspirations, but they are not set rules that you have to follow. The main idea is to celebrate Metal Fight Beyblade OCs, so if you have an idea that you want to pursue that doesn’t go along with the prompt of that day, you can still tag your work under MFB OC Week.

I might be busy and not have enough time to participate during the two weeks, can I still participate outside of the official time period?

Absolutely! We know this event is taking place in the summer so while many will be free to do the prompts, there will also be many who will be too busy. While the official event takes place from the specific week of the year, you are welcome to treat the prompt list like any other art challenge list. We will continue to reblog Beyblade OC Week creations up until the last day of year, so feel free to participate later in the year if that fits your schedule better.

Can I still make content of the canon characters?

Canon characters are allowed as long as there is the presence of at least one original character present. After all, this is an event to appreciate the original characters of all the different Bey generations.

Are crossovers with non-Bey media allowed?

Of course, much like the canon characters,  just as long as your Bey OC is featured.

Can I draw other people’s OCs?

You are 100% allowed to, especially since there is overlap with this event and Artfight. The only rule is that if you do draw another person’s character, you must abide by whatever character permissions/rules the creator established for their OC. Any OC content that is made to harass/slander/bully the creator will not be tolerated and will result in an immediate ban/block. This event is supposed to be fun, so any form of harassment against another person or their creations is not permitted.

Is NSFW, sexual or gore content allowed for this event?

Beyblade is toy kids media, meaning there are most likely plenty of minors within the fandom. To keep this event safe for work and a safe space for more people to participate, we will not be allowing NSFW or any overly suggestive/sexual works. Mild gore is permitted, but it must be hidden with either the read more feature or the community label. While neither of us can really stop people from making NSFW content for their OCs, we would suggest either not posting it, or hiding it with the earlier mentioned Tumblr functions as to respect other peoples boundaries since not everyone will want to see this sort of content in the tags. Let’s be mindful of all the different members of the fandom. 

Failure to properly hide/tag NSFW or gore content will result in the moderators not reblogging your works for the rest of the event if you refuse to comply with this rule and do not fix the post after being asked to by moderators. If this rule is broken several times, you will be banned and blocked by the account. The moderators have the right to block your account if you engage in inappropriate behavior outside of the event.

How come my post hasn’t been reblogged?

Although both moderators will be checking the tag, we will inevitably miss a few due to Tumblr not always showing posts. If we haven’t reblogged your post in around 24-48 hours, please feel free to DM or tag the blog so we can see your post easier. We would like to be able to help share your wonderful OCs with everyone. The only other reason we might not reblog a work is if it breaks any of the rules established (see above for rules on NSFW/Gore and any derogatory works of other people’s OCs).

What other rules should we keep in mind for this event?

Any form of stealing/reposting/re-editing of art/writing/music/use of AI without the permission of the original creator or claiming their work as your own is forbidden. If you are caught doing any of the following and refuse to delete the offending work, you will be banned from participating from this event.  Since Bey OC Week is an arts centric event open to many different art forms, we want to make sure everyone is being respectful of people’s original works since original characters can mean a lot to their owners. Just in general, this sort of behavior is not tolerated even in regular art communities so do not think about taking someone’s handwork and claiming it as your own.

As mentioned before, the moderators have the right to block your account if you engage in inappropriate behavior outside of the event.

It’s okay to post after the event is over, but since the prompt list is out early, can we post before the official start date?

Preferably not, just so the post doesn’t end up getting buried and so we can have more fun during the official event time. Feel free to start making your content as soon as the prompt list is out, but wait until the actual start date to begin posting.

SO THE NEW BURST TRAILER DROPPED WHILE I WAS WATCHING DEMON SLAYER

SO EXCUSE ME FOR MISSING IT. I WILL NOW GO OVER MY THOUGHTS BECAUSE I ALREADY FREAKED OUT OVER THE TRAILER ON DISCORD, ON MY INSTA STORY, IN AN INSTA GROUP CHAT, AND TO MY BROTHER IRL

First off, this new character, Quadra, looks really cool. I'm happy we're getting more female bladers! Her bey is Lightning Pandora, ans that put together with her name being in quotes in the season description is leading me to believe that Quadra is a fake name.

Second off, Quadra's brother Pax

We don’t see much of him, but he looks intereating. Especially the sci fi thing he has on his hand (I'll get back to that later). Ngl his look kinda reminds me of the blader dj from beywheelz, but I like beywheelz so I'm okay with that.

Third off, the ruins

This is very interesting. The description said that there is an elemental power radiating from them, which makes me very curious obviously. This gives me beyraiderz vibes and metal fury vibes. Also it's interesting to see that burst might be leaning more into the supernatural now.

Fourthly, the sci fi stuff

This seems a bit too high tech for what we've seen so far, so I'm assuming that Quadra and Pax are either from the future or from another dimension or something like that. That coupled with the mention elemental powers leads me to be even more interested in them. I did have a minor theory that they're related to Ilya, but I'll save that for if we get actual evidence.

Fifth, Bell

Seems like he's going for round two of being protag. Good for him. Only Valt had done that so far. Also he looked very serious at the end of the trailer, which seemee sorta strange to me. But it looks like Quadra might've ticked him off

Sixth, returning characters

It's great to see Valt and Ransou back! I also believe Shu, Lui and Free will return as usual. Wakiya might too. I also wouldn't be surprised if we see Basara or Rashad. Anyone else? Hard to say if anyone will return. The moon at the start of the intro makes me hopeful that Aiger may return, but I don't want to get my hopes up for anyone.

Valt: 5/10. I like the jacket and the hoodie, but it’s nothing that special

Shu: 4/10. Decent, but nothing great

Training Shu: 5/10. The red and white work well together

Rantaro: 7/10. I love the jacket (which I won’t call a cape because canonically he insists it’s not). Also the pants are great

Ken: 6/10. I like the look, but feel that more could be done with it

Daigo: 5/10. Looks pretty good. My only complaint is that the purple and red are too dull to work with all the black. Either have less black, or make the purple brighter to contrast more

Ryota Kurogami: 2/10. He looks like a background character

Hoji: 2/10. It’d be a 3 because of the plain overalls, but the shoes detract a point

Wakiya: 7/10. I love the jacket with the wyverns on it

Training Wakiya: 3/10. It’s very plain

Orochi: 8/10. Dreadlocks + 4 silver rings + piano key jacket + studded pants

Xander: 8/10. Super buff dude in a crop top

Yugo: 5/10. 2 of those points come from the mohawk alone

Ukyo: 6/10. I like it, but it feels like it’s missing something

Zac: 6/10. He looks pretty good, and that choker is pretty cool

The Masked Blader: 7/10. It’s a nice mask

Gabe: 7/10. He gives off gym bro vibes

Lui: 10/10. I love the hair, and the boots, and the boa scarf

Quon: 5/10. He looks pretty good

Ben: 6/10. The mohawk and purple shorts are cool, but don’t mesh as well as one would hope

Naoki: 4/10. Nice but kinda generic

Jin: 4/10. I like hoodies worn over hats, but Jin’s design doesn’t have much going on aside from that

Akira: 1/10. The design just does not work. It’s a combination of aa bunch of different things (which aren’t that great to begin with) thrown together with absolutely no cohesion

Melos: 4/10. Kinda cool (especially for a background character) but also far from the best cat boy in the series

Haruto: 4/10. What is it with Burst and some background characters having better designs than part of the main cast?

Katana: 6/10. I like the shirt with one sleeve rolled up. And the neatly-cut pants. And the leather arm guard

Shinki: 4/10. It’s just alright

Kyo: 2/10. He looks like a background character (but not a Burst one since those tend to look good)

Mick: 3/10. I kinda like the choker but that’s it

Freddy: 3/10. Same as Mick

Bowie: 4/10. The hat improves on his teammates’ designs

Atsuto: 3/10. Looks decent enough for a background character, and in a different show his design might belong to a main character

Kyoji: 5/10. He looks good for a part of the main cast. And he’s a background character

Ichiro: 3/10. Background character that looks the part

Nika: 3/10. Really nothing special

Toko: 3/10. Almost looks like a background character

Chiharu: 4/10. Bland but decent

Momoko: 2/10. Background character that looks like a background character

Keita: 2/10. Same as Momoko

Hiroshi: 2/10. Same as Keita

Principal Shinoda: 3/10. He’s a guy in a suit. Nothing more

Himeko: 3/10. Bland background character, but the fang gives her something unique

Sasaki: 3/10. Just enough to avoid me saying they look like a background character

Shindo: 2/10. They look like a background character

Shin Komazaki: 3/10. Bland but not terrible

Hanami: 5/10. He looks pretty good

Akio: 2.10. Background character look

Raita: 3/10. Doesn’t look that great

Yoga: 3/10. Not terrible, but nothing that I’d call good

Ken Yukino: 3/10. Barely escapes the background character look

Minen: 5/10. He actually looks good

Dan: 2/10. Background character look

Majin: 3/10. Not a background character look, but close to it

Shun: 3/10. Too much purple and not enough contrast

Kakeru: 7/10. One of the better cat boys of the series

i miss beyblade (a metal top toy flavoured rant)

i miss when beyblade metal fusion first started airing on cartoon network. just something about how all the toy shelves were lined with beyblades from the show, its a sight that would let me sleep easy at night if i knew that dark bull was still on store shelves. just walking into a local target with my brother, picking up a Galaxy Pegasus W105R2F, looking at all the flashy artwork on the back. then when i got home i could unbox the bey, feel the pristine condition of the rubber performance tip, apply the stickers on the bey and launcher (and try not to mess it up), then i could use the lil code card to play online at beybladebattles.com. and then i would always spin the bey onto the tiled floor and watch it just kinda move slowly bc i didnt get a stadium until like 6 months later. idk its the kinda sensation that cant really be replicated today with beyblade burst and its 17 different subseries. or maybe im just mad that they got rid of the high quality metal tops for cheaper plastic ones hell if i know.

in my opinion (i legally cant have opinions bc i own lego rockband ds), i kinda like the characters from the metal series better than burst, but thats probably just nostalgia fog. ill probably rewatch both series at some point, but the fact that beyblade is pretty much dead here in americaland doesnt help matters.

at least beyblade burst always stuck to tops, though. beyblade split into all sorts of other things after metal fury, like beywheelz, beyraiderz, beywarriors, and also all the weird lil beyblades that you couldnt take apart like all the others, like the rc beys, light up beys, sfx beys, and the tornado beys. but even then that deviates from the classic formula and makes it interesting. beyblade burst doesnt really do that as far as i can tell, besides making the beys slightly bigger.

thats kinda why the classic beyblade series died off, though. they were too busy seeing if they could and not stopping to wonder if they should. if they stuck to the original formula, that would get boring after a while, but beyblade burst showed that there still is a market for the original spinning top formula. maybe if they were able to bring back a classic resurgence for like an anniversary (15th anniversary coming in May 2025) or something like that, beyblade would become relevant again, and i stand by that.

its probably a farfetched concept, though. the higher ups at hasbro probably see beyblades as just a way to sell spinning tops, endlessly trying to put more gimmicks onto, "the MOST powerful beyblade yet!", all in an attempt just to try and make a quick buck. it just doesn't seem feasible with a company like that at the reigns, i really dont think they would care about doing some type of legacy content like that (i know that beyblade legends was a legacy release that they did in 2014, and that line is great, i have a few of the beys from there, looking to make a full collection someday, i just wanna see these lil dinkers on target shelves again).

also something i wanted to mention, but i recently found out a couple of months ago while searching for beyblade video games that there was an original beyblade manga and anime and toy line before metal fusion. i wanna try and see what thats all about, and maybe try and pick up some metal fusion manga while im at it.

tl;dr: i miss the good ol days of beyblade, and i want them to bring it back. pls target and hasbro and wbba

2. When was the last time you cried? When my cat Primavera died. She was with me throughout my childhood.

7. Scary movie or happy ending? Give me the scary movie. Give me surreal transformation sequences, possession, Eldritch horror.

8. Any special talents? I'm a writer, but I usually don't share it online. I like the feeling of creating a world: its culture, people, geography, and history. I seem to have a knack for it, but I don't know. I'm also pretty good at Graphic Arts, and have made buttons and vinyl stickers.

9. Where were you born? I was born in Illinois, but spent my childhood in Michigan. I'm back in Illinois now.

10. What are your hobbies? Writing and watching Beyblade (and Beywheelz and Beyraiderz). I do like writing fanfiction based on what I watch, but I've never finished any.

Me when MFB ended. Just do what I did and watch the original series, realize you finished it, give Beywheelz a try, then watch Beyraiderz, then get mad that Beywarriors Cyborg is lost media, then go searching for it for years, lose hope, then start checking for any possible updates on the existence of Cyborg every single day by sorting by new on multiple sites (Tumblr, Twitter, Reddit, YouTube), and then in the last glimmer of hope hijack other people’s posts in hopes that someone that knows anything about Cyborg sees this
