A few have asked why I haven't been around much; and this is why. One of our cats became very sick last fall, and we've been trying to diagnose what's wrong, including going to the top veterinary college in the country for answers. Last week, the diagnosis came through and it's the worst possible one. He's not even 2 years old.
There is no cure. There is no approved treatment in Canada, either.
We're going to start with an experimental treatment this week. It's going to cost us about $1,800+ a month. If my remaining organs were any good, I would already be looking at auctioning them unfortunately I'm down to singles of anything required to function.
If you'd like to contribute to our cat's treatment fund, I'll post my Ko-Fi: https://ko-fi.com/beyondthemoor
There's no obligation, of course. But if you're able to, our weird and loving little guy would appreciate it.

Shout out to FF writers!
WARNING: ME GUSHING ABOUT MY FAVORITE AUTHORS. VERY LONG. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
//YOU CAN SKIP THIS PART. This is just me explaining why I felt that I needed to say thank you.//
This weekend was a very sad event for me. I decided to read some stories, when I got a notification about one of the stories I follow. I was so excited to have a little happiness this weekend. I figured I would make a giant post on some of the authors I stalk follow.
Here it goes! This list is so long. So very long. I’m sorry but I couldn’t control myself. There’s so many stories that I love! As I was skimming for errors, I found myself adding more, and more, and more stories and authors. ;-; So very sorry for how long this is. I keep saying it’s long...
All of these author’s are amazing writers and I’ve noticed how friendly they are with their followers. So this is my thank you. Thank you for writing. Thank you for escaping from our lives for a few minutes, hours, days... You are appreciated.
@anoceaninthesun - Her story A Stitch In Time - Rated T. (Sakura and The founders) It’s not finished yet but that shouldn’t stop you from reading it. The wait is worth it when the upload does happen. I honestly haven’t something like this yet. Time travel yes, but how it happens and the..I can’t spoil it. Just read it!
@shyyynobi - You Are My Fate - Rated M. (MadaraxSakura and some TobixSakura) Honestly one of my favorites. It’s something I haven’t read before. The story starts off with Sakura and Madara in a warring states type era. By the next chapter we see our lovelies in the future. Each chapter is dedicated to each era. I love personally love it, and it makes it easier to understand which era they’re in. I can reread it over and over while waiting for the update. Her chapters are long which makes the wait even better! (Plus, I love her version of Madara. Also, the author is a total doll.)
[Lust for Life] Rated M. Angst/Romance. (TobiSaku). Summary from FF. “They both knew this would end. They both knew the reality of what they were doing. Yet, they couldn’t stop it from happening - because bearing the weight of your pain alone can be too much.” This is a Teacher/Student story. Don’t worry, Sakura is in college and is the legal age. You all need to read this! Only three chapters out so far. But no rush. Never rush!
@astroaves -
[Uchiha MC] - Rated M. For very good reasons! -coughlotsofdirtysmutcough- (MadaraxSakura) Another favorite of mine. Her take on the MC is wonderful and I love the smut. The pure smut. It’s almost every chapter and I love it. The chapters are so well written that you can feel like you’re there.
[Homeward] - Rated M. - (MadaraxSakura) I really love this one. The story starts off where Sasuke was fighting Danzo on the bridge. Sakura gets shot back in time and has to find her way home. You get to see Sakura as a total BAMF. A very sassy Izuna and a sassy Madara. Beware of Sakura’s baby hands!
[Never Have I Ever] - Rated M. SUPER MATURE. SO MUCH SMUT. BRING SOME NAPKINS, ‘CAUSE YOU GONNA BE SWEATING. Romance. (MadaSaku.) It has smut. Lots of it. You go in thinking it’s going to be a cute story. You come out feeling absolutely filthy.
@beyondthemoor - She has tons of stories out that I love. I can’t just pick a favorite! I do really like her tipsy series. It’s a series of one shots that follow Sakura as a BAMF and a over medicated Madara (honestly, it came out when Obito was calling himself Madara). You’ll see our favorite Uchiha brothers, Itachi and Sasuke, and the rest of the gang. Her FanFic account is [here]. She’s usually on tumblr though! Tipsy and Tipsy II: Drunk are rated T. Tipsy III, IV, V, and VI are all rated M. For good reasons. ;)
[Tipsy] [Tipsy II: Drunk] [Tipsy III: Forget] [Tipsy IV: Confessions] [Tipsy V: Mistakes ][Tipsy VI: The Morning After]
@sariasprincy - Saria has a ton of good stories out! There are tons of ItaSaku, MadaSaku, and some other Saku ships. They’re all pretty spicy!
One of my favorites is [Blurred Lines]. It is a MadaSaku one. I really like how Madara is international criminal, but is also a sweet person towards Sakura. Even though she hated the attention at first and wanted nothing to slap some cuffs on him. This is a must read!
I’m also suggesting [Brand], [Branded], [Cat and Mouse], [The Choices We Make], [Battle of Wits], [In a Past Life], [Is There Somewhere], and [The Firm].
Brand (MadaSaku. One shot), Branded (MadaSaku. One shot), Cat and Mouse (MadaSaku. One shot), Is There Somewhere (MadaSakuTobi. One Shot), The Choices We Make (MadaSaku. 5 chapters). The Firm (ItaSaku. One shot) are all rated M!
Battle of Wits (MadaSaku. One shot) - Rating T. Based in the Pokemon Universe. Really good one shot! Go read it!! In a Past Life (MadaSaku. One shot) - Rating T. This one is a Soulmate AU. It’s a quick oneshot but worth the read! ACTUALLY, GO READ ALL THE STORIES! THERE IS TOO MANY TO PICK!
@vesperlionheart - How do I say this...? Uh, VESPER IS AN AMAZING WRITER. You don’t want to stop reading her stories once you start. Every story I start to read, I just get sucked in. I feel like I’m there in the story. All her stories are amazing. I could sit here and gush about them all day and night, but let them link some of my favorites.
[Obelisk: Kingdom of Man] (Sakura, Sasori, Sai, Akatsuki. T. One shot. Romance/Adventure. ), [Obelisk: Kingdom of Beasts] (3 chapters. T. Sakura. Romance/Adventure.) , [Obelisk: Kingdom of Monsters] (14 chapters. T. Sakura. Adventure/Romance), and [Obelisk: Kingdom of Gods] (21 chapters. T. Sakura, Gaara, and Sasori. Romance/Adventure.) Guess what?! They’re all completed! Yes! I loved them all. It was something I have never read before.
[Red King] - Rated T. Adventure/Romance. (Sakura, Itachi, Shisui, and Madara) Okay, okay. This story is a one shot. It’s a very long a whole 65k words! I started reading this one night and I could not stop till I knew what happened. Once again, she amazes me with her ability to pull you. The world, the scenes, everything in my opinion are so well written. You seriously need to read this one!
[Her Favorite Criminal] - Rated T. Romance. (MadaSaku) This is where Madara is Sakura’s favorite criminal. Currently there is only 4 chapters. I know, I know..I’m sad too. It’s a good read with the current chapters out so far.
[Under the Rabbit’s Moon] - Rated T. Romance. (SakuraxFounders. Also has the cute younger brothers.) WARNING: SAKURA IS A COMPLETE AND UTTER BAMF IN THIS! This story is still uncompleted, but that’s okay. It’s worth the wait. Trust me. In this story Sakura didn’t get her happy ending. Her friends are dead and the only thing she wants at the start is vengeance upon the person who took them away. Sakura is sent back to the past. This is not your normal time travel story. In this one, Sakura is “gifted” God like powers. Only...Kaguya is hiding in Sakura’s mind. I’m pretty sure it’s her mind. Anyways, be prepared for a very cute Izuna (Overly jealous, but I do love me some izzy <3) , Kawarama (needs to be protected at all costs), and Itama (precious baby)!
[Nightmarish] - Rated T. One shot. Romance/Supernatural. (SakuraxMulti.) Okay, seriously go read this one. After go read Nightmarish Dawn. Like now!
[Nightmarish Dawn] - Rated T. One shot. Romance/Adventure. BAMF Sakura. Sequel to Nightmarish. (Sakura, Itachi, Shisui, Madara, and Sasuke.) A very interesting story. Totally worth the read. I haven’t read something like it before.
[Forever is an Awfully Long Time] - Rated T. One shot. Romance/Hurt/Comfort. (MadaSaku) Ugh, my heart, it hurts. I loved this. I’m just going to post the summery, because otherwise, I don’t know how to explain this. “He was too dark to be her Peter Pan and she was too shrewd to be his Wendy Darling, but somehow they found their way to Neverland together.” Prepare to be punched in the heart.
[The Deathless One] - Rated K. One shot. Romance/Humor. (MadaSaku). Sakura being a naughty girl and using ancient ninja- arts, dun dun dun BLACK MAGIC! Very cute one shot. Please go read.
@stormears - So it seems l had added you to my favorites long, long, long ago. In fact.. FF isn’t even telling me when I added you! The horror! According to FF, I added you, uh... 00-00-0000 years ago. I’m glad I randomly found you on tumblr. Because when I went to add you to my favorites, you were already there!
[Chasm] - Rated M. WAY M. Suspense/Romance. Ongoing. (MadaSaku). So this is a very interesting start to a multi-chapter story. Right now there is only one chapter. Get this, though. The first chapter is nearly 28k words. You heard that right! Nearly 28k! Right now we are waiting on chapter 2. We have to be patient though. Good writing takes time. I highly suggest this! It’s the start to something great.
Summary from FF. “When she was a child, Sakura held Ino’s hand. And then she held weights and a gun and a steel bat. Then she killed a monster with her bare hands. One of the beasts saw her that day, with blood up to her elbows and it began to follow her. For days. For years.”
[Lack of Sleep] - Rated T. Romance/Humor. (MadaSaku.) This is pure fluff. Go read it.
@radiantelle - Currently has one story uploaded to FF. [Shades] - Rated M. Romance/Drama. Ongoing. (Madara, Sakura, Tobirama, and Izuna.) BAMF Sakura. Time travel. Precious Uchiha brothers (especially Izzy. <3) Old man Tobirama and the lovable Hashirama. Go.Read.This.Now. I love it. You’ll love it. My cat loves it.
@rhearenee-magane - She is a very sweet person. I love that you took the time to reply to my review. <3 Anyways, on to the stories!
[Evil Knockin’ at My Door] Rated T. Supernatural/Humor. Ongoing. (MadaSaku.) So honestly, I haven’t read something like this before. Which is good. Because I love finding new stuff to read. Summary from FF. “She should have known that meddling with an unknown kinjutsu would have it’s consequences. She should have kept her feelings in check and should have known entering a power play with one of the most powerful shinobi of all time wouldn’t end well. But dammit, she won’t let him have the last word.” In this, Madara is a ghoooost! Sakura did an unknown kinjutsu and boom! Ghosty Madara appears. This story has a very unique plot. I honestly haven’t found something like it before. Which is good. Be ready for a tricky Madara, Sakura maybe catching feelings, and some nice, steamy kisses. This story only has 16 reviews, which blows my mind with how good it is! Go read it!
[Forward Thinking] - Rated T. Adventure/Romance. Ongoing. (MadaSaku). This one is a time travel story, but it has a twist! It’s Madara who get’s sent through time! Madara finds himself in the future. He has no idea what his future self has done. Sakura and Madara are both very sassy in the first chapter. Only one chapter out right now. But that’s okay. Good things take time!
@silverfootstepswrites - Is the author of Eastern Suns. Go read it. Now.
[Eastern Suns] - Rated M. Crime. Complete. (ItaSakuTobi.) “Gritty streets of Hong Kong. A golden gun. Haruno Sakura is the last person you want to cross in this city. A lady doesn’t get to be a triad without a few tricks up her sleeves.” This story was a wild ride from start to finish. It was so good. You get drawn in and you never want to leave.
Okay sooooo, this is getting super long. I’m sorry, but I couldn’t help myself. I’ll just start linking the remaining stories and their authors!
[Saudade by flosculous](Rated M. MadaSaku. Ongoing.) / [Dying Embers by Rise of The blossom](Rated M. Main ShishuixSakura. Itachi. Ongoing.) / [Kozetsu by gummiwummi-chan](Rated M. One-sided SasorixSakura. Ongoing.) / [Flames that Burn by Myem04](Rated M. Complete. ItachixSakura.) /
These are dark: [Modus Opernadi] [Why The Caged Bird Sings] [Her Madara] [Bloody Kisses -SasSaku] These all are by @ofhealinglove. All of them are lovely. She updates when she can. No rushing! [Euphoria] by [AliceWolffe] - Her FanFic account.)

Hollow Point Chapter 8 Reviews:
@joursviolette
AAAAA FIRST TIME LEAVING A COMMENT HERE I DID ONE ON FF I THINK YESSSS THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE UPDATE!!! I WAS REALLY CURIOUS BEFORE ON WHAT'S ITACHI'S ROLE WILL BE AND DAMN IS THIS ALL FAMILY CRIME BUSINESS WITH THE UCHIHAS AND ITACHI BEING A SHRED OF LIGHT??? ANYWAY LOVELY UPDATE AS USUAL!
Thanks for coming to tumblr too! It's really awesome as a writer to see reviewers across different social media platforms. Don't forget, Madara was CIA, turned traitor ;)
xx
@vesperlionheart
Is he hot, must be an Uchiha!
Or Senju ha
xx
@mariko-ko
And now we see where Itachi comes in! How in the world is Sakura going to handle the CIA’s involvement in her already dangerous life? What is Sakura’s end goal? I keep wondering why she got involved with the other Senju’s in the first place. Is it just power or is it something else? I do love her partnership with Kakashi. How in the world did they meet? Loving the story!!!!!
I'm so happy to see all your questions! Standby for answers! ;)
xx
@mugglemiracle
As usual, great writing from you. Kept wondering what Itachi's role would be. I was thinking he was from Akatsuki, but I guess CIA is more badass. For one fleeting moment, I imagined who would Sakura better end up with. I am a multishipper and I love all your pairings, but I really wish for TobiSaku. Hehe. Tobirama is so damn hot! I am sooo religiously following this story and I am excited for the next chapter! More power
I love both ItaSaku and TobiSaku. And I do regret (sorta) that Itachi, Sakura and Tobirama are all about to be put through hell. Whoops!
xx
@beansproutlover
THE ITACHI REVEAL YES. JUST YES. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE HOW THIS ALL PLAYS OUT I’M SHOOK.
I'm excited too! ;)
xx
@arraveugchan
This is my favorite chapter so far gaaaaaaaahhhhh with Tobirama and Itachi in one chapter! I love the reveal, I love how Sakura remains in control of the situation though Itachi has everything figured out. I was half expecting Shisui to be there but it’s all good because at least Sakura was able to flirt her way through their meeting. You also wrote both men so well!!! With Tobirama being our usual hot sassy ass to Itachi being this hot calculating agent eyjejfhtwhneyths I’m so excited to see how all of these will play out! Thank you so much!!! I had fun waking up to this!
Itachi and Tobirama's characters are both powerful and dangerous, but their personalities are so different. They're both a blast to write. Shisui to come soon!
xx
@-lookingforthesky
Holy fucking shit, yes finally Itachi bae makes an appearance~ I'm surprised she turned down the deal :o but I guess I'll just have to wait patiently to figure out why. Thank you for writing :D
;)
xx
@black-is-a-shade-you-stock-fish
WOOOOOOOOOOOO I open tumblr and the first thing i see is this post. YEAAAHHH ITACHI'S FINALLY HERE!!!!!
So much Itachi love. (I'll say I was excited for his appearance too)
xx
@faithangel366
Omg omg omg I have been waiting for Itachi to show up for a while now. I almost screamed while reading 😍😍😍.
I admit I sometimes scream while writing.
xx
@beyondthemoor
*gently touches @sariasprincy ‘s face* Bless you for sharing this, and giving me something so wonderful to read on my only day off this summer. I want to review, but I know I would reveal spoilers, and I don’t dare do so. But know that I desperately want to. You beautiful, cruel, ethereal creature…
…Who do I need to FMK to get chapter 9?
Well, I mean if you're going to compliment my *flips hair* beautiful, stunning, gorgeous looks, I may have to bless you with an update.
xx
@keep-me-near
#ahhh so many things happening in this chapter#like if tobirama ever called me princess and grabbed my hips like that 😏#also I was so stupid not to realise who inspector haswari was lmao#and then BAM you introduce itachi#which gets me thinking... who is inspector tuvia!? is it shisui?? u said they looked so alike they could pass as siblings or cousins sooooo
Yes, Tobirama is damn hot. Though, I don’t think he really meant ‘princess’ as a compliment ha <3
Thank you everyone for your comments, reblogs and tags. They are much appreciated.

Her Favorite Criminal 4
@beyondthemoor Because it was her birthday and I wanted to have this done in time, but I’m a terrible person, so here it is late. Happy birthday fandom mother!
“The blue one is the use once in the morning right after waking up, and again right before going to sleep. This will help repair your lungs. The red one is to carry around and use if you feel like you need it.”
Sakura handed over both inhalers to Itachi who took them with a grimace. She felt sorry for him when she remembered how she felt when they told her the same thing only hours ago when she woke up. Her surgery had gone smoother in comparison to poor Itachi’s. He was trying to be brave about it, but there was going to be a long recovery for him to go through before he could put on a uniform again. The same could be said for her, but at least she knew recovery was possible. Itachi had gotten it the worst out of all of them.
“If you need it, I’ll remind you each day.” She tapped the blue box and it was enough to make him look up and grin.
“You think I’ll need it?”
“I think you’ll be difficult until you have the attention,” she answered, crossing her arms. There was a familiar sort of knowing in her eyes that came from nearly a lifetime of knowing the Uchiha that was Itachi.
His smile was soft even when he tried to be teasing. “Then please take good care of me, housemate.”
Sakura groaned, sliding down in the chair across from Itachi. “Really? You gotta rub it in, don’t you?”
“Allow me this one joy.”
“You’re all overreacting, I swear. Nothing happened.”
Itachi’s smile fell away and his eyes turned hard. “A wanted criminal with a record as violent and vile as they come took advantage of the situation and snuck into your hospital room the day after your surgery. No one cares that all he did was leave flowers, that’s not the point. He bypassed the security detail and was around you when you were most vulnerable. He could have done anything he wanted when he was alone with you. He’s taunting us.”
Sakura bit her bottom lip and held her elbows. She hated how she wanted to defend Madara, a wanted criminal that had once been one of her most treasured people. She felt guilt for still holding a part of him in her heart. She hadn’t turned around and hated him like Itachi had, and Sakura suspected she never would.
Madara, as cruel as he may be to the rest to the world, was nothing but soft and kind with her. It was a tempting sort of feeling, to be the only thing loved by a man who hated the rest of the world. She wouldn’t lie, it made her feel special, even though she knew it was only because of how they shared a close history. She could have been any other girl in that same situation and Madara would have felt just as strongly.
“I don’t think he wanted to hurt me, and really, our efforts should be elsewhere. The force is left so thin now by all the officers on medical leave. I don’t know if that’s what Kabuto wanted, but it’s no coincidence that his associates have doubled their movements to and from Oto.”
“True, but Kabuto is not moving right now; he’s too scared,” Itachi muttered, looking down at the boxes in his hands. “He miscalculated and pissed off the wrong mob lord.”
Sakura blinked, remembering the hushed conversation outside her hospital room. “So, it is true, what they were saying about Madara going on a vengeance spree. They wouldn’t tell me.”
“I asked them not to.” Itachi looked up at her from where he sat in bed. “You deserve some peace for recovery, and if you found out I knew you would want to look further into.”
Sakura felt tense inside her body, like her arms, legs, chest, and face were all part of a suit she had climbed into and outgrown while inside. She felt tight and trapped. Below her ribcage was a fluttering desire to break free and be useful. Refusing such an urge would only leave her feeling agitated, but she knew the Uchiha wouldn’t understand that coming from her. She had been a child too long in their eyes to not need extra doting at a time like this.
“I still do. I need to be helpful in some way, even like this.”
Itachi glared at her and it was cutting enough to make Sakura flinch. A second later Itachi realized his mistake and looked away, cheeks reddening. “Don’t,” he whispered in that raw voice of his, still sore from surgery. “Don’t push yourself again. That’s the whole reason you’re here.”
“I don’t regret it.”
“I do. You were in sub par condition going into that building, and you were in charge of getting those other two out, both of which are okay and have already been discharged. They didn’t take as much of the smoke as you did.”
She looked away, uncomfortable with the unspoken accusation. Itachi was the only one who could say it out loud, but the second he did she’d bite back about he was just as much of a self destructive hypocrite as her and they’d both be sorry afterwords. Neither of them wanted that. She didn’t know what his reasons were, but she knew well enough that he stood in the same darkness of self destructive tendencies, maybe even more than her.
“It was bad all around,” she weakly offered.
Itachi might have said something more, but didn’t. He took her words and nodded, looking back down at the inhalers in his hands. For a while the pair of them sat in silence, content with the breeze from the open window and the feel of sunshine. Regardless of the state of the world, it was a nice day and it had been too long since either of them enjoyed one of those.
Sakura felt herself slipping and didn’t stop it when her body slouched down into a comfortable curl in the armchair that let her fall the rest of the way asleep. She felt like she could sleep around Itachi better than she could on her own. A little nap would be nicer than the fitful sleeps at night when the world was dark.
“Sakura?” Itachi’s voice was a whisper.
She mumbled something and turned her head into the seat, nestling. Outside someone with a window open was listening to Fleetwood Mac and it carried like a lullaby. Just what she needed.
Shisui was at Itachi’s door minutes later and when he walked in he was struck by the scene. Like something painted for fairytale picture books, the sunlight was golden and her lashes were long on her face as she slept cutely in her curled up position, but it was Itachi that made it a striking piece.
He leaned slightly forward in his bed, hands folded neatly as he gazed over at her fondly. His face was just as honey lit and soft in the same warm sunlight that made his eyes clear with love. Itachi sat in a hospital bed recovering from one of the worst accidents on the job, but he had never looked more content to Shisui in all the years the cousins had known each other.
“She’s sleeping,” Itachi whispered, watching her without looking away, even as he addressed Shisui.
“I can see that.”
Shisui stepped into the room and slid the door shut behind him, being as quiet as he needed to be as he shuffled the box of baked goods to his opposite hand. He rattled them once before putting them down on the nightstand alongside Itachi’s bed and then wen to the wall to lean against it and appreciate the setting.
“You act like you’ve never seen her sleep before,” Shisui finally snickered, voice still hushed.
Itachi’s gaze broke off with a complimentary flush across his face and up to his ears. “What are you here for?”
“Baked goods. Mom is getting things ready for the both of you to come home.”
The words made Itachi swallow and Shisui realized why after a moment. Sometimes he forgot that Sakura wasn’t an Uchiha or truly a part of their family. Same with the Naruto boy who had been a huge part of Sasuke’s childhood, but at least that one moved on. Sakura stayed close and it was like there was webbing between her and the family.
“You should have seen your mother with Sasuke though, he was complaining about something and she just went off on him about how he has no right to complain when he’s a slacker that lets his partner work harder than him on top of being a girl.”
“Don’t let Sakura hear you say that. She doesn’t like being thought of different for her sex.”
Shisui shrugged. “Yeah, I know, but that’s your mom. You remember how bad she was with your father when he approved Sakura’s application to the force. Ice Age.”
“It wasn’t that terrible.”
Shisui caught the snicker behind his hand, but his eyes danced with mirth. “Yeah it was. She was mad at everyone except Sakura. I mean, Mikoto was engaged at that age and everyone expected it with her and Sasuke being fused at the hip and all. Your dad only got out of it because he claimed it would help to keep an eye on her.”
Itachi’s hands, neatly folded over the bedsheets, flexed just enough to wrinkle the cloth underneath. There was a sill sort of pause while the world was silent aside from the music from outside fading in and out between classic soft rock and roll tracks. He watched her, searching for signs of waking, but Sakura didn’t stir. Finally, Itachi closed his eyes and nodded once.
“Ah. Between the two of them, mother is the more traditional of the pair.”
Shisui could tell his words had brushed up roughly against Itachi’s sore feelings, but didn’t take them back or regret voicing them. Itachi was a big boy and it had been years since then. Besides, there was more than one broken heart when it came to Sakura Haruno.
“Yeah, well your mom is super excited she’s coming home. The rooms have all been set up and she’s baking a shit ton of food. Your house smells like WildFlour Bread company.”
“By your tone I would have guessed you were annoyed by that, but I should know you better by now. How is that something to complain about, Shisui?” Itachi asked.
“She’s not letting me have any of it until you come home tomorrow. Can you believe that? It’s all warm and hot coming out of the oven and she’s not even let the quality control come in for a bite or two. She’s hogging it all for you two.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Itachi,” Shisui whined, dragging the name out. “She’s torturing me.”
“It is her right.”
“You’re so mean. You have no idea for how I suffer.”
“We all have crosses to bear and I don’t doubt that you already helped yourself to my cookies when brining them over.” Itachi gazed cooly over at the tin on the side table and then up at Shisui.
“Quality control, remember?”
“I’m sure dinner tomorrow night will be to your satisfaction. Don’t make yourself a nuisance.”
Shisui’s gasp was fake of course. “Since when am I a nuisance?”
Sakura’s chest rose on a sort of muffled yawn as her leg stretched out and she turned a bit before settling back into the chair like a mouse in a nest. Both men held their breath, waiting and watching until she was still again. Slowly, Shisui looked over at Itachi to see his cousin was glaring hard now.
“Yeah, tomorrow night, got it,” Shisui whispered. He waved and began to back up towards the door. “I’ll see you then.”
Itachi didn’t respond, but nodded and Shisui knew he wasn’t in the deepest level of trouble with his precious cousin. And even if it was only a little trouble, Sakura being there would smooth almost all other ills over and turn his cousin into a lamb. Shisui didn’t have anything to worry about.
Dropping his hands into his pockets he strolled back down through the halls and stopped when he caught sight of Obito walking with a phone cradled to his ear. The other Uchiha saw Shisui and turned the phone off and slipped it into his pocket.
“Back from visiting Itachi?” Obito asked with an easy smile. Even with his scars he had a nice smile that was more easy going than most Uchiha’s.
“Yeah, he’s resting now and kicked me out. Doesn’t want his favorite cousin in there to pity him. He’s such a brat when he wants to be left alone,” Shisui whined in a playful tone.
“No, I think that’s only when it’s you. Everyone else can take a hint and excuse themselves before he needs to glare you to death. You just have no social sense,” Obito said.
Shisui made a dark face. “Why is everyone so mean to me today? I have done literally nothing to deserve this sort of treatment. I thought you would understand me Obito nii.”
“I outgrew it. Ah, but I am here to see someone else. Have you seen where Sakura might be? Her hospital room was empty so I was going to check with Itachi, but if you just came from there did you happen to see her?”
“Sakura?” Something in Shisui’s gut turned forcefully in a way that humbled and sobered him. “What do you need her for?”
“Just to catch up on some things.” Obito smiled again and it made Shisui’s brain stem tingle. “You happen to see her?”
It took a second, but Shisui fell into an easy smile and shrugged. “Nah, haven’t seen her yet, but I know she likes the roof and the gardens and hates being cooped up. You know how she can get. From what I heard she’s driving the nurses here crazy with not staying put.”
“That sounds like her. I’ll check in those places, thank you Shisui.”
“No problem.”
The two parted with an easy wave and Shisui kept the smile up all the way down to the car port and didn’t drop it until he was behind the wheel and pulling out onto the main roadway. It fell off his face like dry plaster and he hated how he could still feel the danger in his gut and warning at the base of his brain.
What the hell had that been?
Sakura’s room looked the same. She remembered being sixteen and getting rid of band posters with growing shame and updating the walls with the periodic table of elements. This had been where Sasuke and Naruto spent countless hours and nights keeping her up till late.
She had of course come back to this room more than once since moving out, but it was always funny walking into it again. She couldn’t go back to her childhood, but walking into her old room felt like sliding into her favorite old shoes that fit her perfectly after years of shaping.
“Dinner will be ready in like thirty five to forty minutes, or whenever the table gets set,” Sasuke grumbled, walking in behind her. He sounded tired and she suspected that was because of all the shifts he had to cover while she, Itachi, and a handful of others recovered. “Mom’s making fancy stuff.”
“How you doing?” she asked, dropping her purse onto the end of the bed while Sasuke started to click open her luggage. She slapped his hands away before he could open it and see inside.
“I’m fine,” Sasuke grumbled, sounding a little more moody than usual. “Mom’s being unreasonable again.”
“I’ll try to help with that,” Sakura offered, knowing that would go over better than any other sympathetic phrasing or teasings would. Sakura was magic when it came to Mikoto.
“That’s good to hear, cause I need to take a shower and maybe just melt a little back into a human being.” Sasuke reached up and rubbed his face with both hands, groaning slightly. After a moment he pulled his hands down, stretching the skin just under his eyes before letting go. Hands still on his chin he looked over at Sakura and seemed to soften. “It’s good to have you here again, though, and I’m glad you’re safe.”
“Of course I’m safe. I’m doing a lot better than your brother so all this worrying and doting is unnecessary. The first thing he did after coming home is go to his room to take a nap.”
“Hospital beds aren’t all that comfortable, I hear.”
Sakura shrugged. “That’s true. Still, I’m fine, but your idea of a shower is a good one. I’ll see you later for dinner.”
“Perfect,” Sasuke said, leaving her with a smile.
Sakura unpacked, showered, and took some time to clean the bathroom with all her new things in it. Her hair was wet on her shoulders, but she toweled it mostly dry before dressing in a simple spring dress for dinner, too tired to go fancy and too sensitive to Mikoto’s standards to not wear something feminine.
Sakura’s hair was curly and bounced in damp curls around her face when she looked herself over in the mirror. She looked better than she had. She was braiding a strand behind her ear to clip back behind her head when she heard the soft knock at her door.
She opened it and found Mikoto standing there, lovely and ageless as ever with a wonderful smile on her face that felt like home. “Feeling better, sweets?” she asked Sakura.
Sakura dropped her hands after clipping her half braid back. “Much. Thanks for the time to freshen up. I think I needed it.”
Mikoto’s eyes were soft and dark as she reached for Sakura to draw her into a hug. “You’re always lovely, my girl. I’m just glad you’re feeling better.” She squeezed a little tighter. “I’m so happy to have you home again.”
Sakura’s heart hurt but she squeezed back. “Me too.”
Mikoto pulled away and cupped Sakura’s face. “Yes, you do look more like yourself. Well, dinner is just about ready. I’m off to rouse my baby from his own clean up. Will you check on Itachi and ask him to come down? I think he might still be sleeping but he needs to eat. I don’t trust hospital food. He needs something more on his bones.”
Sakura laughed, but agreed to do as Mikoto asked. She had dozed and napped well enough, and couldn’t tease Itachi for wanting the same once home.
His room was down the hallway around the corner from Sasuke’s. Sakura had been set up in a far off wing away from the boys, as per decorum’s sake. When they were younger Sakura remembered Itachi and Sasuke being closer, but Sasuke had made an attempt to move out from his elder brother’s shadow in more ways than one, and now they were on different levels.
Sakura knocked don his door and after a minute didn’t hear an answer. She called out softly and the result was no different. She tried the handle and found his door unlocked. She had been in his bedroom only a rare handful of times, and when she tried to think about how and when they had all been times that lasted less than five minutes.
Sasuke and her had snuck in once to try and ‘uncover’ his legendary porn mag collection after a fellow senior bragged about them to her, Sasuke, and Naruto. That had been mortifying to get caught in and she had never forgiven Kisame for it. Had there been anything she wouldn’t have done for Sasuke’s attentions back then?
“Itachi?” Sakura called, stepping into the room and then hesitating. His bed was towards the back of the room and she had to push open the door further to peer in and see more than just the foot of the bed. She saw his ankled and pushed in, leaving the door wide open behind her.
He was on his side with a pillow pulled down between his arms and another two under his head. He hadn’t bothered with a sheet or even changing his clothes. His hair was still tied back and Sakura made a clicking sound of disapproval, suspecting his hair would now be tangled.
She touched his shoulder and called his name again. “It’s dinner time. Your mom says you need to eat.”
He moved, but only turned his face deeper into the pillows. She heard him mumble something and she rolled his eyes when it sounded like he wouldn’t rouse for her.
Sakura sat down behind him on the bed and reached for the tie in his hair, pulling it out with a little more finesse than just the standard pull. It was a little tangled, but for an Uchiha that was unheard of. She ran her fingers through his hair, seeing no brush or comb, before parting it into four pieces and starting to cross weave his hair into a messy fishtail that ended up looking far nicer than anything on her ever had.
A droplet of water from her hair fell onto his neck just as she finished tying up the hair with a tie and he reacted, twitching and turning over suddenly to look up at her, eyes wide.
“You’re here?” he exclaimed, voice groggy with unbelief.
Sakura flicked his nose and scooted back off the bed. “Yeah, have been this whole time. You ready for dinner yet or does sleeping beauty need a few more hours?”
She turned back to look over her shoulder when she was at the door and saw that Itachi still hadn’t moved, but he looked plenty awake now. He reached back and fingered the braid. “You?” he asked, looking up at her.
“I swear it’s not as messy as mine usually are.”
He smiled, fingering it some more as it snaked over his shoulder. “It’s nice. It makes my hair seem thicker I think, and would be good for when working out.”
“Yeah, but if you were going to work out I would have just done a braid up and a bun up top because those work well for you,” Sakura said, using her hands over her head to demonstrate what she was talking about.
“I’m not sure I know how to do that,” Itachi mused, standing and joining her as they moved down the hallway. “Would you be agreeable to teaching me?”
“How to braid hair?” Sakura asked with a grin.
Itachi frowned at her smile. “I have more hair than you do, don’t think yourself silly.”
“Nah, nah, I get it. Yeah, I’ll show you a few things. I’m not an expert since cutting my own hair so long ago, but I remember enough. I’ll show you what you want.”
And after dinner that night where everyone complemented Sakura on Itachi’s hair, Sakura did end up teaching the older brother a handful of different braids and styles that he could use for leisure or work. She was surprised when he asked for more than just the fishtail and braided bun. Each night Itachi wanted to learn something new from her and actually put it to use the next morning.
Shisui tried to tease him about it once but ended up floundering when he realized that Itachi could actually pull each look off with amazing grace that did nothing to diminish his masculine beauty.
“How the hell does he do that?” Shisui grumbled to Sakura.
Sakura could only roll her shoulder and admit it was an Uchiha thing.(But it might have had something to do with how fit Itachi was when he wasn’t wearing a shirt.)
Sakura was combing Itachi’s hair a following night when he mentioned to her something she hadn’t thought of. “I’ve only ever seen you do this for one other Uchiha.”
Sakura’s fingers stilled. “…Until you there has only ever been one Uchiha that let me. It’s not the most flattering thing to do with your hair for a guy.”
“I appreciate it, nevertheless, and I’m glad I don’t have to be envious of my uncle in this anymore.” He reached up for her hand when she didn’t continue braiding. “Did I upset you?” he asked.
Sakura blinked and shook the feeling off. “Nah, no, no you didn’t. Sorry, I was just thinking. It’s been a while since… since I did this with anyone. I was much younger last time.”
“How young?”
Sakura’s eyes narrowed at the question. She had been older, a teenager, well past the age when it was considered cute. She should have known by that time that something was off with his doting to the point of sloppy fishtails and braids.
“Why do you ask?”
“You still care for him, even when he’s become what he has. I would like…to understand that feeling.”
“I don’t think you can understand that feeling,” Sakura admitted, pulling her hand back and going back to his dutch braid crown. “I don’t think I can even understand it, but I can’t hate him. There is nothing in him that has ever tried to harm me. It’s my morals that give me pause, because I know he’s a…bad sort of guy.”
“Sort of?”
Sakura grunted. “There is a sort of logic in his criminal activities, and several cases have had evidence of vigilante justice. What he’s doing in Oto right now…that doesn’t help him, only hurts the other guys…the guys that hurt his family.”
“Hurt you,” Itachi corrected her.
“Friends and family discount, same difference.”
“Maybe he is doing bad things for good reasons. You’re both still on opposite sides of the law and he’s not coming back without serving a great deal of time to atone for all he’s done.”
He reached back and grabbed her hand to still it. He didn’t look back but it felt like his eyes were on her as she waited for what he said next. His fingers on her knuckles were hot.
“And that’s not ever going to be enough to come close to deserving your sympathizes or anything more from you.”
She didn’t say much more after that but braided his hair dutifully and complemented it when they were finished before excusing herself for a walk.
The Uchiha had far forests of land she could get lost in if she didn’t know them so well. Just out of sight there was a child’s footpath that meandered down to a grandfather oak thick as any she’s ever seen. In his branches a treehouse for children sat, almost elven in the way it seemed to blend into the tree.
Sakura leaned back to look up into the branches at her childhood home away from home, where she had played with Naruto and Sasuke and where she had thought she would grow up to live permanently. At least that was what she promised Madara back when she was innocent and young enough to truly believe in such things. What he must have thought of her, the girl he babysat, saying such outlandish things.
Still, Sakura felt foolishly sentimental as she reached for the ladder and lifted herself up. There was a rope, but she had never been able to climb up that way as a child. It really had been a long time since she came back.
Sakura came up through the floor and pulled the rest of herself up, panting slightly as her lungs strained with the new work. She was still healing, after all. She rested there a minute more before standing up and walking through the tree house nice enough for adults. Tall as she was, Sakura didn’t have to bend in any of the three rooms. There was a crawlway up to a second level, but she was content to stay in the ‘living room’ on the bench in front of the windows, watching the birds. It was a world of peace for as far as she could see. This would have been a nice place to bring a book.
Sakura closed her eyes and meditated, content and relaxed. She ignored all the trouble from work, all the crime in the world, the attention of the Uchiha, the complication of her feelings for an evil man-no, not a evil, just a criminal.
She heard the rope clatter outside and turned around to see someone with dark hair climbing up. Sasuke or Itachi must have come out to get her. Dinner would be soon. They would be expecting her.
Sakura turned off the bench and stood, only to freeze as Madara pulled himself up through the hole in the floor. He looked up at her and grinned. “It’s a bit tighter than I remember it being, right?”
“Shit,” Sakura whispered, grimacing. “Madara, this is the Uchiha land.”
He frowned in haughtiness, standing. “And I’m an Uchiha, am I not? Aside from that, no one but I ever comes out here anymore. They would cover the world over before they thought to look in their own backyard for me.”
Sakura should had drawn her gun on him and arrested him on the spot, but she didn’t have her gun, she was alone, and no one would hear her if she tried to scream. But more than those reasons, she felt tired in her heart and didn’t want to go through the trouble of hating him.
She sighed, sitting back down. “What are you doing here? Come to check on me? I’m alive and fine, yeah.”
“I’m not convinced. Let me see you here,” he grunted, coming around the bench and sitting alongside her. He grabbed her face and she slapped his hand away on reflex, glaring when he chuckled. “Yes, I see it now. You’re better than before.”
“You’ve been too busy to be here. What were you really doing on Uchiha lands?”
Madara hummed, stretching his arm out behind her on the bench. She glared when his hand settled on her shoulder. “I was meeting someone who’s actually helping me with the Oto infestation. As terrible a criminal I may be, you can’t deny I’m an effective force in this war. The others know that without me they would be in far more trouble on account of the loss of so many boys and girls in blue.”
“Our uniform is charcoal.”
“You know what I mean. Hey, hey, I’m doing something decent, see? Proud of me yet?”
His words made her heart where ethics and morals battle emotion and feelings. “You’re still a criminal. I’m on the other side of this, I still have to uphold the law and I can’t condone what you’ve chosen to do.”
“You’re darling for still believing I’m the only dirty one here. You think it’s all my good luck and skill that has kept me this close to the net but still outside it? No, the rest of my dear family knows I’m better off to them and their efforts where I am now. They’re using me and I’m using them. I’ll not be arrested as long as I’m useful for dealing with the scum that needs dealing with.”
With his hand on her arm he tugged her closer and she glared up at him. His teasing smirk was gone and he looked tired.
“What if I told you I never chose this for myself? Would you still think I’m a criminal?”
“You are a criminal, Madara. We know you’ve broken the law more than just once on more than just one thing. You may not be evil, but you’re still a criminal.”
He tugged her closer still until she was pressed up against his chest. He bent into her and kissed her hair. “That’s fine. I’m content in that. I’ll be your criminal, just let me steal your heart, love.”
“I’m keeping that off the shelves for a while more, thanks,” Sakura snorted, smiling in spite of herself. Her snort made her throat itch and she had to turn away and cough a few times, covering her mouth with her wrist.
“Do you need water?” Madara asked, voice thin and hardly even there.
Sakura shook her head and leaned back into his side, forgetting how she was supposed to not want to be in his arms for a few minutes more. She felt safe there, and it was a nice sort of safe feeling. If she needed it, she knew he could be dangerous for her.
“Do you remember the promises you made me here, how we were going to get married and live in a tree house?” he asked in a whisper, brushing her hair back. “You braided flowers into my hair and told me you would braid my hair everyday if I let it grow longer. You told me you would be my bride one day when you grew up.”
She didn’t say anything but let him drone on about the memories they shared, about the things she said while still a child. Her eyes felt heavy as his voice washed over her, softer than velvet.
“Do you remember what I told you then, love, how I said I would look forward to the day you were a bride for me? I didn’t lie. And when you fake married Sasuke, I was so angry even if it was a scam, that he got to have something that was mine. That dream at the alter with you in white belongs to me, it’s mine. Wait a little longer and I’ll be able to give it to you.”
Sakura closed her eyes and leaned against his side as his voice washed over her, wave after wave. “Hey, you see how long my hair is now? You’re going to braid it for me some day. I saw a purse and it reminded me of the one you had when you were taller than Sasuke. I thought of you this morning. Hey Sakura....hey.”
She closed her eyes and let his voice drone on and on.
Later when she awoke she was alone on the bench and Sasuke was calling up to her to come inside for dinner. Shisui was joining them.

FLUFF Friday
(late)Fluff Friday – Resort
Crossover: Sakura Haruno (Naruto)x Kaname Kuran (Vampire Knight)
Looking out the large pane window, Sakura starred out at the ocean glumly.
She was going to kill Kien.
“Are you liking the view?” Glancing over her shoulder she sent the pureblood a dead stare before returning her attention to the view outside their hotel room.
“Is the room not to your liking?” The urge to roll her eyes became more apparent as she detected the amusement laced in her companion’s voice.
Sakura jumped slightly when she felt the tips of his fingers graze over her skin in an attempt to brush stray hair out of her face. He was as silent as a mouse this one. “I apologize. I was under the impression you needed a break.
Sakura let out an amused huff. “Kaname, I merely told you I needed a break.” Sakura sighed resisting the urge to laugh at the look of confusion on his face, “I did not mean to whisk me away to some tropical resort…in the middle of testing week.”
“I was under the impression this would not be an issue,” Kaname chuckled (making something in her stomach tighten in a way she refused to acknowledge), placing his hands on her hips and gently pulling her towards him “The Head Master seemed to have no qualms with the idea.”
Because that man child can’t help playing cupid, Sakura thought in annoyance. Only he would choose her romantic life as something more important than her finals and she made a mental note to make Kien’s life a living hell if this little vacation affected her grades.
“I apologize for surprising you, Sakura; it was not my intention to do so.” Kaname apologized, bending down to place placing a chaste kiss on the side of her throat “Shall I make it up to you?”
Eyes beginning to fade from a gentle emerald green began to form into a rarely seen crimson red she turned to face her lover, a teasing smirk in place, loosely wrapping her hands around his neck.
“I’m sure you can think of something…”
Watching the purebloods eyes beginning to take on a similar color as that of her own Sakura couldn’t help but think she would not be getting much rest as long as he was here.
Fin.
This is my first time writing in close to 4 years (also my first time writing for fluff Friday) so please be gentle, i’m SUPER rusty with my writing (I’m utterly embarrassed right now). Thank you @vesperlionheart and @beyondthemoor for still letting me submit something :)

Smutty News
Hi everyone!
So, I asked Moor from beyondthemoor about any prompts for Smut Monday, and she offered to let me take it over, and so I have!
For anyone who doesn’t know about/haven’t taken part in Smut Monday and maybe want to, here’s how it works: On the first Monday of each month, you post a smutty fanfic from any fandom based on the prompt. All I ask is that you mention me in the post so that I can see it and reblog it, and that you include any trigger warnings before the post. If you could also create a “Keep Reading” line/link in the post to hide the smuttiness from underage users, that would be appreciated. Below is the prompt master list for this year. I will also try and make reminder posts when we get close to the beginning of each month on what the prompt of that post is, as well as a master post of links to each post everyone submits. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me or post the question on my Tumblr. If I don’t reblog your story within 24 hours or it is not on the submission master post, message me and I will get to it! As Moor used to say “Easy peasy lemon squeezy!”
Smut Monday 2018 Prompt Master List

beyondthemoor mentioned silverfootstepswrites in a post “silverfootstepswrites: title Just Enough summary Or too much....”
silverfootstepswrites : title Just Enoughsummary Or too much.…
@beyondthemoor Hi. I love you. You’re too nice. Please adopt me.
A+ analysis on the smoking. I also feel like you can examine it as the very “haze” that’s protecting them is literally poisoning them. And the way that Sakura likes to light her cigarettes was also meant to say something about her character.
The only thing I really have to challenge you on is this: Why do we equate vulnerability with a lack of stability? “Looser seams”, as you put it- do they mean that something is falling apart? Because I think it can also mean flexibility. An ability to adapt in ways that something rigid cannot.
Of course, I loved everything you had to say, and I’m not saying at all that your interpretation is wrong. I’m just asking you to consider something new. Why do movies and books like to say that people have to fall apart and be rebuilt by love? I think there’s something inherently insulting about that. (a.k.a huge spoiler for what will happen in the future)

@beyondthemoor This is one of those thing where punctuation can really change what it means. If there’s an exclamation point I’d say it was a parent scolding a kid. If there was an ellipsis then that’s where things get dirty... plus this marker decided to be extra thicccc sooo....

Arranged Marriage SakuraUchiha gift for @beyondthemoor because she’s amazing and deserves this. Hope you enjoy friend! Sorry for the rush edits and typos I’m sure I missed along the way.
She broke the night with the clashing of metal on metal. The fire was hot and glowing an angry red behind her as she brought the hammer back down to the anvil with another ring. Again and again she fashioned the form out of something formless until the end result was a blade hungry for moonlight and war.
“She who is adored by the poets, she who heals, and she who smiths bid me so that I may know what face do you wear for me tonight?”
Sakura looked up from her blade, now cold to the touch, and frowned at the figure just beyond the reach of her forge’s protective ring. The imp crouched low but threw its voice to appear elsewhere. It should have known better than to provoke her when she worked.
Returning her sword to the working table she trekked out to the edge of her forge and undid the ties around her sleeves, letting them fall free over her hands where her magic might be concealed. The imp shivered but did not retreat, not his first mistake but likely his last.
“Return to your shadows and take the fruits from your markets elsewhere. I do no welcome you to my lands. “
The imp chittered to itself in stressed glee. “Dear oh dear oh dear, oh dear, she bids me fleeeeee.”
Sakura lifted her hand and an older blade, larger and longer than any man’s arm might dare to wield hung suspended in air just beyond her fingertips. She twitched her pinky and the blade leveled horizontally, edges shining in moonlight.
The imp’s chittering cut off on a strangled gurgle of fear.
When she spoke her words were darker and calmer than well water. “Return, worm.”
It sprung from the shadows and stretched itself out on the ground, prostrate. “Exalted one! All respects to the goddess of the forge, the spring, and the healing, all respect to the triple goddess, all respect be brought to thee. We seek to humbly beg a seat at your wedding table for our master.”
Sakura’s ire wavered and then returned full force. Her fingers flexed and the blade impaled the imp through his body, cutting him neatly in half before he could regret the folly of his words. Her sword swung under the moonlight, dripping with black ichor she blew off before returning her sword to the world she kept it for.
“The nerve of some of these parasites.”
She returned to the table where her new moon sword waited for her. She sat with it and listened to the metal singing in the moonlight before etching the spell work into its blade with her enchanted etch.
It was comforting work she was thankful for. It helped distract her from the unavoidable end of her independence. That was the price she owed for her own part in her brother’s loss with the war between invaders and gods.
The sun crested over the hill and Sakura opened her eyes, but the forge was gone. She had no more need for it as her nature was new once more. She breathed deep and the forest breathed with her. She stepped down the grass field and flowers bloomed where her feet touched the ground all the way to the river bed where the foliage positively sang for her.
“You had a hard night?” the fae from the other side of the water asked.
“An unwelcome guest stained the threshold of my door. I detest the stink of hubris.”
Ino grinned with all the sickening charm of a Good Neighbor and laughed. “And yet you will be bound to not one but three such monsters in one more night’s time.”
Sakura set her mouth into a hard line and the world around her stilled, vegetation seemed to hold its breath around her. No new flowers bloomed when she walked along the river’s edge. “Have you come to ask for seat at my table, mind walker?”
“Don’t be so cold to your oldest friend,” Ino laughed.
Sakura didn’t join her. There was a reason she wore a silver bell around her belt.
“I am not bound by the old magics to give or deny you anything. Ask plainly and do not be deceitful, as is your nature.” Sakura steeped out onto the surface of the water cut between them. When she spoke again her voice was softer. “Speak your desire to me, Ino.”
At the sound of her name the fae queen stilled and seemed to settle. She watched Sakura plainly with eyes that had seen the beginning of the world as well as the end of it. After a moment she took a step to the edge, toes curling over the lip as came as close as she dared.
“Seat me at your table, old friend. Let me share in your day. I will not ask again.”
“It’s not in your nature to ask for anything, so I won’t deny you, even though it pains me,” Sakura sighed, relaxing. It seemed Ino wasn’t in the mood to make mischief. “You will have your seat at my table. Bring your horned king. It will be a feast for the ages.”
Ino’s shoulders relaxed and she reached out to touch the side of Sakura’s face. They were creatures of opposite natures, but in spite of that Ino and Sakura were alike enough to be friends. “Tell me of your heart, dear friend. What do you fear?”
“I fear nothing. I do what must be done.” Sakura rested her hand atop Ino’s and leaned into the touch of it. “The three faces of my nature might not be easily understood. I do not know how they will meet me.”
“They offered you three princes from their table. Might you think this shows their respect for your nature?”
“Perhaps.”
The pair lapsed into silence and followed the river to its splitting point. By the end of the day Sakura was another aspect of herself, healing the sickness from the creatures that managed to bring themselves to her sacred glade.
Before the next new morning could dawn she felt the chill of a trespassing onto the last of her temples. Any other time she might not have cared, but all her shrines had been desecrated and all her tables laid to ruin save one. It was the oldest and strongest of her temples, but it was still a crude and weathered thing hiding in the fog around an island peaking up out of a lake.
Sakura caught up the ends of her dress, the fabric wrinkling under her fingers as she turned and traversed a dozen leagues in a single step. She walked until she was at the edge of the lake where she could see a collection of boats moored on the sides. Off between the trees a couple of men in the Conqueror’s odd armor sat, eating breakfast. No one turned to see her through the veil of her magic, so she stepped out onto the waters and crossed them to her island.
A single boat big enough for four was left moored on her rocks. Foot prints in the stones and grass led away from it up to her temple.
Her last temple.
She would give up her godhood, her title, her lands, and bend her head to offer her power to these new people, but the last of her temples was a place she would end herself for. The old kings, sleeping and waiting for the end days, were hers to watch over and she was willing to pay their price with her blood.
She drew the bog’s fog up around her and the air turned thick and gray as she passed through the stones, carved and etched with her sacred words. It wasn’t enough that they stole her people from her. Must they also defile the last of her secret places?
There were three of them, one taller and older than the others with long wild hair, woven back into a thick braid down to his waist. The one behind him was slight and fair with the same dark hair, though his was tame as silk, unbraided and free over his shoulders. The last had his hair cut neatly short, though curled over the edges of a golden circlet. He was thicker in frame than the second man, but not the first. All had the eyes of the conquerors, black pools that bled red like fire with wicked magic.
‘They can kill a god and it is not for us to die, so we will make peace with them and wait until their mortal lives expire.’
Sakura drew the fog around her tighter and pressed up against a pillar, keen to hide herself when she knew their eyes could see through her magic if they were clever enough to use it at the right time.
“This is it?” the curly haired one asked, skipping ahead to the front and then peering back over his shoulder. “It’s not a lot to look at.”
“The fog obscures vision,” the tallest and broadest of them said.
“Still not a lot to look at, I mean I know they said we left this temple untouched, but are you sure. Itachi, is this place supposed to look so barren?”
The one with hair like silk climbed the stone steps up alongside his companion and hummed thoughtfully as he watched the last wisps of fog drift past the center of the temple. “It is the relic site. This is the oldest of her temples and likely the one in the most disrepair. Only her most devout knew about this location.”
“Until us,” the curly one chuckled.
He was smacked upside the head by their leader. “Hush, Shisui and show some respect. Or have your forgotten the reason we came here today?”
Itachi stopped and looked back, frowning at Shisui. “Madara is right, we are not here to disrespect the good lady any more than she’s already been. We came with gifts for that reason.”
The comment made Sakura relax slightly, more curious than agitated. It sounded like they didn’t know the true importance of her last shrine, or even how to get to it. The stone work above ground was only for show. Of course it looked shabby.
Shisui pouted and pulled out a bundle of brown paper that crinkled. “Where do we even leave this stuff, though?”
“Look for the icons,” said Madara.
Madara pressed on and then waved back over his shoulder as she started to take the steps down into the sunken circle at the far end were three stones with the same face carved into them. At the base of each was a small alter laid bare save for one unmoving object. One the first alter a sword, on the second a flowering tree branch, and on the last a serpent woven around a wand.
Madara was first to slide up to her alter with the sword. He knelt before it and began to remove his own offerings. Behind him Shisui walked up to the alter with the flowering branch, kneeling to unbind the brown paper. Itachi approached the last alter, more hesitantly than the other two, but he knelt and started to bring out his own offerings.
Sakura felt warm in her chest when the first small candle was lit to burn instance for her. A small dagger decorated with mother of pearl rested next to the bag of spices, candles, and bread. Madara also cut free some salted meat to leave on the bread and pair it with a simple flagon of his favorite wine.
Shisui had his own clustering of colorful flowers, bound together in pretty ribbon the same color as the candle. He laid out a letter as well, sealed with wax. His letter was already known to her the moment it touched her alter, but she would wait until later to dissect his poetry for her.
Itachi was the last to set out his offerings. He lit scented candles as well, but prepared for her a collection of spices and filled a goblet with wine. A handful of mallow blossoms cushioned the candles, and in a silk bag were a number of candies made from the blossom mothers would use to sooth the throats of their crying sons and daughters.
Sakura realized at once who these three men were without a doubt.
The said a small prayer she could hear in her heart even if her ears didn’t. Then they left one by one. Madara finished first and gathered his extra items, carrying them off. Shisui followed soon after, but was quick to catch up with Madara and begin talking in his ear. Itachi stood last but paused to stare up at her stone face, watching it like it was made to move. The fog separated Shisui and Madara from Itachi they were so far away, but Itachi stayed a moment long before dragging his feet across the circle and them up the stairs.
Sakura emerged from behind the stones and stepped into the circle, walking until the shrines were behind her. The stones circled around a center piece she stopped on.
The fog drifted low, but when Itachi turned to look back from the top of the stairs she was sure he could see her. His eyes went wide and his mouth hung open only a fraction. It was a pretty mouth and she might have taken it for herself if he were closer.
Further back Shisui’s chattering carried. “What do you think it’ll be like, all married to the same person? Is she one body or does she have three of those? Will I have to sleep with you, Uncle?”
“Shut up before I crush your face. Kagami could still take your place.”
“Not a chance, I earned this!”
Their voices drifted, muffled and lost on the other side of the fog but Itachi stayed rooted to the top of the stairs, eyes fixed on her. She picked up a marshmallow candy and held it between her fingers. Slowly, knowing he watched her every move, she slipped the candy between her lips into her mouth and swallowed, licking the powder off her fingers without breaking eye contact with the young prince.
Itachi staggered and she pulled up the fog between them. A moment later he stumbled back down into the sunken circle, waving away the fog only to find nothing. She wore her veil of invisibility well and would never be seen if he didn’t turn around, but she couldn’t help herself. Sakura stepped up behind him and kissed the base of his neck, then melted into the fog with just enough time to miss getting caught by his spinning red eyes.
-
Madara sat at the head of his table and watched the banquet with his red eyes spinning, picking out the celestial gods and men alike who mingled over good ale and better wine. They intermingled so easily it was hard to imagine that only months earlier they had been at war. The Uchiha had suffered heavy losses, but men could be replaced, gods could not.
He heard the sound of a muted bell and turned suddenly, hoping to see her, but Sakura hadn’t approached his table yet. She was somewhere in the hall, but there were three husbands with three different tables she needed to visit at her leisure.
They had warned him she might show favor to only one of them if her dominate feature didn’t change throughout the night. He was still getting used to what that meant and wasn’t sure he exactly understood it, but he was willing to wait until it was his turn.
“She’s with Itachi. Poor sap is practically disgraced at the table,” Izuna teased at his brother’s side.
Madara growled but let his brother speak. Izuna was the only one who could get away with saying such things and keep his head on his shoulders. Madara wouldn’t tolerate anyone else speaking so casually with him.
“He is her husband as much as I am. That’s to be expected,” he forced himself to say. “And don’t taunt me just because you’re still sore Itachi won your bid.”
Izuna frowned and leaned back away from his brother. “That’s beside the point, aren’t you grumpy big brother? Want to play a game to pass the time?”
“Not at all.”
Izuna chuckled into his wine. “You’re no fun.”
“I’m patient.”
Izuna drank and then pushed around some food on his plate before brushing it aside to lean across the table. “Tell me, brother, what was she like when you exchanged your vows? What did you see?”
“You know what she looks like.”
“She keeps herself mostly veiled to us onlookers. I know she’s stunning beautiful, but that’s to be expected of a goddess, isn’t it?”
Madara had seen multiple gods and goddesses and all had perfect, flawless bodies, but they weren’t fae, they weren’t covered in a glamor that made them impossibly beautiful. They still had human features and characteristics. Sakura was-Sakura had-
Madara reached for his wine and drank deep.
The memory of their union haunted him. Sakura was even more perfect than in any of his dreams from boyhood on. Or maybe it was just another nightmare, mocking him with its haunting details.
The night wore on and Izuna left to mingle at the other tables but Madara waited in his seat at the head of the table. It was where he was supposed to stay until she greeted him.
There was plenty of entertainment. As the goddesses adored by poets, there was an unending stream of composers, bards, and entertainers that wished to share some of their achievements at her wedding. Some sang beautifully enough to even move Madara, but it did little to put his heart at ease as the first night of feasting drew to a close.
“It’s alright. Three husbands, three nights, that’s just how it’s going to go. Did you expect her to come to you on the first night?” Izuna asked him later as they retreated to bed.
Madara said nothing but was thankful enough that his brother didn’t say anything else about how Itachi had retired much earlier to his chambers. He didn’t want to think about things that would only turn his heart in envy. They all knew they would have to share the goddess between them, and he was ready for that, but that didn’t mean some things wouldn’t annoy him. Maybe it would be better once he was visited on his own.
He took his time getting ready for bed, reading through supply reports and field updates for his troop movements into the lands unruled by clans. They waged war against the gods first, but past the civilized lands were the wilds where savage clans still needed conquering. It was fickle work the gods didn’t care for one way or the other.
He poured more drink for himself, upset by how awake he was and went to the window.
Silver in the night caught his eye. The moon was mostly swollen and nearly full, so the figure practicing in the field below was outlined in silver. Her blade was magnificent and long. When she swung her whole body moved, minimizing the window an opponent might seize for an opening.
His hand stilled, wine halfway to his lips, when he realized who practiced in the fields.
He didn’t stop to take a robe, only his own sword. Less than a minute later he was on the ground level, stalking out towards the field where his wife practiced alone among the grass and weeds.
“You do not look exhausted,” he called to her.
Sakura finished her stance, swinging the sword out wide, switching from two hands to one before locking into a new stance that faced him, expression firm and ready. She lifted a single brow and fixed her eyes on his form. His shirt was open, collar to navel, and tucked into his most comfortable riding trousers. She lifted her eyes to his face at last and Madara warmed in appreciate when he read her approval.
“Nor do you,” she finally said. Sakura swung her blade around and then let it rest at her side. “Were you terribly bothered with the feast’s lavish delights?”
“Absolutely overwhelmed.” Madara grinned and held up his own sword. “Would you mind the company?”
“To spar or dance?”
Practicing the steps alongside one could be considered a dance, but Madara’s blood was finally racing. “Let us cross blades and dance with our teeth,” he chuckled, unsheathing his blade and fixing his body into a ready stance.
She inclined her chin and grinned. “I’m not nearly your equal with the blade, please go easy on me,” she cooed.
“Not a chance, my lady.”
She laughed and then lunged.
Sparring with a goddess was exhilarating. Her domains were not war related, in fact she was a goddess more closely associated with the home and hearth, but as one of her aspects was the goddess of forge work and the craft of weapon smithing, she knew the balance of her blade well.
Still, Madara was an Uchiha for a reason, and with his red eyes cutting through her magic, he stood found himself gaining ground on her. She was fast and strong, and most importantly she didn’t tire, but Madara was a desperate animal in comparison, and Sakura likely didn’t know what it meant to want something so bad it eclipsed the desire to live.
Their swords sang and with his strength he sent her blade swinging out of her hands, arching overhead to cut across the moon and impale itself in the grass behind her. He pushed on and managed to pin her to the grasses, blade at her pale neck.
“You didn’t make it easy for me,” he panted on a laugh.
Sakura lowered the lids of her eyes and tilted her head back, exposing more neck. “You have me at your mercy my lord. I apparently did not make it too easy for you.”
Madara removed the blade, but settled his hands on either side of her face and loomed over her. His hair was wild and free of its usual braid, making a curtain around them as he moved directly over her.
“You didn’t visit my table tonight.”
“I didn’t.”
He touched the side of her face, smearing a trace of soil there. It did nothing to diminish her beauty in his eyes. He felt himself at a loss in spite of his status as the obvious winner.
“I wanted you,” he breathed, face close enough that his nose touched hers. “Did you know?”
“I knew.”
He made a sound with his lips, closing his eyes and nudging his face under her jaw. He hissed her neck where his sword had been only moment earlier and delighted when he felt her stiffen beneath him.
“You know I want you now, don’t you?”
He didn’t give her a chance to respond but slanted his lips over hers and kissed her deeply, nearly falling on top of her as he felt her hands come up behind his neck to pull him down to her. Madara tasted his favorite wine on her and couldn’t help but remember his offering at her shrine.
Sakura moved under him, rising up her body to brush his and he felt the thinness of her night dress. He pulled away to trail kisses down the side of her face, neck, to her chest and he hear her moan his name.
His hand found her thigh and pushed up the fabric to her hip and held the curve of her there. “You are my wife, are you not?” he asked, sane enough to hesitate for her.
“And you are my husband, are you not?” she countered.
Madara swallowed and fought down his urges for a handful of words. “And... do you want me now?”
He met her eyes and nearly lost himself at how clear and beautiful they were in the moonlight. She didn’t say anything more, but in response she reached up again and pulled him back down to kiss him thoroughly.
-
Shisui found her on the third day in the halls, choking the life out of something not quite human. The creature was human shaped and had fingers ending in points still dripping with her blood. Sakura turned to look back over her shoulder, completely unconcerned with the pale green-white ichor spilling from her side. It was already starting to seal up and turn back into flesh.
“And here I thought I had fallen in love with the most docile of your three aspects,” Shisui joked, grinning like mad at the lifeless form held aloft.
Sakura released her hold on its throat and it crumpled to the floor and burst into dust. When she turned the train of her gown fluttered through the smoke, blooming with new flowers.
“What do you think the spring blooms feed on, my love?” she called back, knowing better than anyone else that Shisui was joking with her.
He knew exactly what sort of nature her spring aspect was. He had left her letters at her shrine, so of course she wrote him back.
“You are terrifying,” he chuckled, color high on his cheeks.
“And you love it, so don’t pretend otherwise,” she said, as she stepped over the dust to stand before him. “What are you doing here? You should be at your table, should you not?”
Shisui’s eyes were dark in the dimly lit hallway, but they were starting to bleed with a brighter color. “Yes, I should, but I am terrible about being conventional and following rules, as you already know. It’s the third day and both my sincere but sickly cousin and even my gruff old uncle have been graced with your presence. It’s the last day and I’m jealous.”
“You should have learned how to share,” she chastised him. So close to him he realized how he was a head and a half taller than her. She had to tilt her head back to look up at him.
“I’m…” Shisui had to swallow before saying anything more. “I’m terribly dull and not very good when it comes to learning new things. Do you think perhaps you could, teach me?”
“I am better as a muse than a teacher,” she answered, rocking back on her heels and holding her elbows after crossing her arms.
Shisui stiffened when it looked like she wouldn’t advance any more. He shifted his weight from one leg to the other and laughed over a cough. “Ah, well maybe I could use a muse.”
“Maybe you could,” she chuckled, leaning back again.
She didn’t advance and made no move to take any aggressive stance with him, in spite of how he found her only moments ago. She was a terrifying woman he was excited for and yet she didn’t seem interested in him.
“Do you enjoy torturing all your lovers, or just the ones you know will suffer the most?” he sighed, smile turning sloppy.
“You seem to have a fair grasp on my nature, why don’t you tell me, husband?” she said, tilting her head to the side and smiling out of the corner of her mouth.
Her hair was partly braided, but huge curls slipped over her bare shoulders and brushed the front of her emerald green dress. It was soft and shimmered in velvet waves, caught up in a silver triangle just under her breasts.
“I am no expert on your nature, as any poet could laughingly tell you, my goddess.” He chuckled as his tone turned self depreciating. “Now I only wish to ask you honestly, if you find my union to your nature less than pleasing? If there is something I lack, please let me fix it.”
“Do you think you are lacking?”
Shisui liked to think himself confident, but he knew he wasn’t. He knew he was a pretty lie. Out of the three of them, he had only just barely won his bid and knew that if he hadn’t thrown his hat in, Kagami or Izuna would have filled in just fine and probably done a better job of being a good husband. They at least had a purer linage to fall back on, they at least had conquests of their own to boast of. He wasn’t even sure why he had been chosen or won the bid in the first place, he was just so glad he didn’t want to question it.
“You expect much from me?” he asked, expression matching his hopeful tone.
Her lips parted then turned down in a frown as she moved close enough to reach his face and hold it with one hand. “I expect much from all my husbands, and first and foremost I expect their confidence. You are my consort, you stand at my side and will warm my bed in the night. Can you think yourself unworthy of that?”
“Of course not,” he lied.
She applied more pressure, not enough to be painful, but enough to show him he was caught good and sure. Her free hand grabbed at his wrist and he felt himself pushed back against the stone wall of the corridor. Weeds in between the cracks began to grow, wrapping around his fingers first and then his hands and arms.
“Tell me why you doubt,” she said in a voice that left no room for argument.
“Tell me why I was chosen,” he countered, unafraid of her bindings.
She put her lips under his ear and whispered, breath hot on his skin enough to make him shiver. “Ooh to find the pale shadow of a woman, the black Delilah, the eternal mother, the willow, and ash tree’s maker. Call her ancient queen and weep. She digs your graves with her silver spoon and buries your thankful heart.”
She bit the side of his neck and he caught his cry between his teeth, swallowing the sound as she sucked on his skin, making her mark. She pulled away enough to kiss her love bite and Shisui tried not to shiver.
“You think I could ignore the writer of such words?”
“You think that’s enough?” he breathed.
She grabbed at his throat and her fingers tilted his face down. “Don’t look down on the words of men, for they will move mountains with their pens while the sword of lesser brutes break upon the rocks. You are a knave and a fool and a little bit of a broken soul, but I married you so have some more confidence, Shisui.”
“That’s a fairly accurate summary of a bard,” he laughed, still excited and dizzy for her. “Not exactly what the Uchiha were proud to count in their ranks.”
“What you lack is not what I care for. Your family is a community of conquerors, and you have forgotten to value the arts, but that does not mean you can be ashamed of them. Your stories, your songs, your poetry…all of these things are what I adore.”
When she looked up into his eyes she saw his true nature and all the shame he hid under witty smiles and silver tongued words. Sakura dropped her hand and backed away. The weeds holding him in place went slack.
“I won’t touch you again until you fix that way of thinking.”
Shisui surged, reaching for her. “I won’t have to.”
And because he kissed her with the fullness of his confidence she let him.
-
The dawn was a mess of colors, some as soft as her hair, others as brilliant as the eyes of her husbands. Sakura watched the sunrise from her window. Behind her on the bed Madara and Shisui slept far apart from each other on opposite sides. Beside Shisui Itachi slept on, taking his turn on the edge apart from her.
Each one slept off his mortal exhaustion while Sakura was left to ponder the nature of her predicament. Her belly was noticeably swollen now, and their other children were on the far side of the castle, asleep between their dogs and various guardian animals.
Sakura hummed to herself, warming her face with the new light while stroking the swell of her belly. When the curtain of invisibility dropped over the room, separating her and her guest from her sleeping husbands she didn’t react.
“You’re far too content,” the new voice said.
“You were the one who agreed I should be the sacrifice. You married me off for this very reason.”
“We didn’t expect so many children. You’re seeding the earth.”
Sakura laughed, eyes bright with mirth as she turned to face the god of skies and thunder. “I am the goddess of spring, among other things. Between three husbands four or five children shouldn’t be unusual.”
“You have no plans to stop at four or five.”
Sakura hummed, a pretty blush turning her cheeks pink. “They spoil me terribly when I’m pregnant and I do love having children of my own. You could never do that for me, after all.”
Kakashi sucked in a breath and it was a moment more before he spoke. “Even though we were not compatible, I didn’t think that mattered. These mortals will expire before the century ends. Please don’t…continue with your wild seeding. The other gods are nervous.”
“Why would they be nervous?” she laughed with a knowing look to her eyes. “Just because my children can kill you doesn’t mean they will. I could kill you. You could kill me. Ability doesn’t imply motive.”
“They possess mortal hearts. They will not think as we do. Sakura, please. They’re willing to take you back. We can drive out the invaders now. Our numbers are more-”
“No.”
Kakashi went very still. “No?”
“They’re not invaders, they’re my family and I love them.” Sakura smiled down at her belly and stroked it lovingly. “I’ll protect them and hide them away on my island of Avalon to live forever. When the world ends they’ll rise up along all our kings and I’ll be there.” She turned to look up at Kakashi through her lashes. “But you won’t be. Remember how you feel in this moment, Kakashi, for the next time you offer up your lover for an easy peace. I am the goddess of many things. Your death may very well be one of them.”
Kakashi was gone faster than lightning and the curtain of his invisibility shattered with a soundless breath. Still, somehow, Itachi stirred. He was always the most sensitive to her magic.
She watched him wake, blinking blearily up at the colored sky through the window before noticing her there on the sill. His smile was still shy after so many years, but it didn’t stop him from creeping out of bed and making a beeline for her.
“How is my goddess this morning?” he asked in a whisper.
Itachi knelt in front of her and pushed up her night dress enough so that he might kiss her belly without obstruction. Sakura bit her lip, delighted at the tickle of his kiss.
“She’s delighted, of course. And her little girl is happy too now that her father is awake.”
Itachi’s smile stretched wide across his face. “Not as happy as her father is, I’m sure. We could use a girl after so many boys.”
He kissed her belly again and whispered ‘good morning little one’ into her skin. Sakura felt a kick and looked up to see Itachi’s delighted expression. It warmed her heart more than anything else ever had in all the years of her long life.
“Itachi,” she whispered his name.
When he looked up he frowned at the tears on her face. “Why do you cry, my love?”
“I’m so happy I’m with you,” she laughed through her whisper. She reached for him and kissed his hair, tears falling anew. “Thank you for saving me.”
He chuckled and kissed her back. “I’m not sure what I saved you from, but I’m happy to bring you joy.”
“Forever and ever?” she sighed.
“Forever and ever,” he promised.
