My mood baseline has been like 30% higher than usual this past week, because I'm spending 4h/day reading Dungeon Crawler Carl.

I've had bad luck with recs for 'good books' due to divergent ideas of what is good. But I bet people's ideas of addictive books are pretty convergent.

Please rec me the most addictive books/webnovels you know of. No "it's addictive if you make it past the first 150pgs", thanks. I prefer to spend my textual marshmallow points on nonfiction.

#rambl #i mildly disliked the hunger games as a reading experience and DCC is like if someone removed all the parts I disliked #and jacked up the parts I did like 1000x #the metagame; being coerced to go on talk shows; the clever survival tricks; complex relationships w the other survivors #in between fighting for your life you also get pulled into meetings about the lawsuit about the trick you used to survive last time #which has financial & political consequences for the powerful galactic factions who sponsor & run & fight in the game #very long & only a small % of the wordcount is character focused but what you get of the MC is complex and I find it highly enjoyable #big guy with big blindspots! there's one page in book 3 or 4 where he mentions his girlfriend did [insane relationship thing] not once #but like 10 times #and it suddenly makes you understand something about that relationship & what she wanted from him & what neuroses she had #but does HE understand. no. and it's delicious.

you know what. if we’re imagining Fox as being 17-19 then offering her french toast was actually a genius move on the Bizzies’ part. because from experience the number 1 way to get a teenager to trust you is to give them free food

#fox being a teenager is something that is so important to me #when it’s not making me feel sick to my stomach #bc like that age range specifically has a lot of people in their 20s being like oh you’re a baby #and then there’s like well yeah I know i’m young but it’s hard to feel young when this is the oldest you’ve ever been #and that’s where i think fox’s want to prove herself comes from. she’s like i know i’m young but i am capable #but like she doesn’t understand how young she is because how could she #that being said i don’t think the warriors infantilise her #like she was picked to go to the meeting. I just think there’s some sort of we won’t send fox on that mission with an unspoken we think #she’s too young to handle it #but like it’s tangible enough that she tries to make herself seem older (i’ve spoken about the difference in how she says her name before)#also there’s no way they infantilise fox bc she clearly respects them. implying that they do treat her as an adult #that’s part of why I don’t like the whole mother figure cleon thing starting to float around #that i fear will inevitably be part of her fanon characterisation #bc 1) there is like at most a 13 year age difference between her and fox. she could not be her mother #and 2) the warriors are more than just those 7 like they run coney. i just really don’t think all those members would respect a leader who #morhers them. and then also she’s so cool. and i think eventually ‘mother figure’ characterisation will ignore canon that she is incredible #and i do think the warriors (or at least the 7) are probably really close. but like thats bc they’re all friends #this might be hypocritical of me bc i believe i was the first person to talk about the swan/cleon sister agenda #but that’s different. you understand. seeing one person as a sister is different to seeing a whole group of people as your children #i would apologise for putting the whole post in the tags but we all know it will happen again and i am not one for empty apologies #warriors musical

#breathtaking. spectacular.#friede beloved by many (me) and stealing the hearts of many (mine)#genuinely though.. he is so likeable. how trustworthy and reliable is friede for lucca (his former teacher!) to entrust liko to him #i just love how he just left such an impact on them. lucca never gave up on him and still helped him even when he was an adult #and crave never forgot him either. friede genuinely has a deep level of trust with both of them #(crave wasn't exactly his teacher the way lucca was but. he acknowledged his thesis so it feels like he is involved in academic stuff)#(probably part of the panel of those who read friede's research. and offered him work so either way in the hierarchy he was higher)#i love how friede is involved with their families. and how his path led him to liko and amethio.#even in the first ep. he stands between them. and knowing what we know now it makes their first meeting really meaningful to me #(also he has roy's grandfather's trust too. it's still not clear how he came to know him but roy's grandpa entrusted him to friede)#anyway.. friede the man that you are. carrying the themes in such a way.#something about him being raised and taught.. and now giving back to others.. namely to the kids of those who helped him #friede #character notes
