Once Upon A Time chapter 5
<first> <prev> <next>
Jason Todd knew it was only a matter of time until his bubble burst and one of his brothers found out what he was getting up to. He was just hoping he could pull it off for a little longer. Even though the pit still reacted at the strangest times, he felt calmer, more normal, than he had in years. He wanted to hold it close and make sure nobody could take it from him.
From Replacement: you went back to college? Does B know?
Fuck.
—
Danny had been wary at first. Rich boy Jason Todd-Wayne in his college classes. The man was older than Jazz, though not by much, and a freshman with him. Either the guy was a bad influence or Danny just had really shitty luck.
He and the universe both knew the answer to than one really. But 60 bucks a week to reteach the guy basic math and Jason always gave him dinner in the deal? Danny wasn’t going to look that particular gift horse in the mouth. If there was one thing Danny had forgotten during the past almost two years it was how hungry his human side got. Not having money and being on the run meant opportunities to eat were few and far between.
What Danny didn’t expect was how sarcastic and assholish the rich guy could be. He loved trading snark. Danny assumed that it came from them both having older siblings. But between that and the half formed core that was slowly shoring up, Danny found himself growing attached. He had missed having friends. Getting to talk to Sam, Tucker and rarely Jazz through a conspiracy message board wasn’t enough. Most of the time it was just a way to make sure that nobody had been captured by the GIW. They had a way to pass longer messages but to do that too often would be suspicious.
“So I don’t get it,” Danny said, gesturing at Jason with some fries almost a month into tutoring, “What do people actually do at Galas? The tabloid pics just show a bunch of people in uncomfortable looking suits standing around with champagne.”
“….thats really it. It’s boring as shit.” Jason kicked his chair back on two legs, leaning against the wall. “If I liked you less I’d invite you.”
“If you liked me less?”
“Oh yeah. Because then you’d have to meet my brothers, the assorted not quite adopteds, my dad and scarier yet, our butler.” Danny choked on his laugh.
“Your butler is the scary one in that situation?”
“Alfred is like a ghost. Always there when you turn around.” Jason put on the accent “Master Jason, you really must come home more. Nobody quite enjoys my cooking like you.” He let the chair legs settle on the floor. “Now imagine that from behind you in a dark kitchen at two am while you’re half drunk and trying to make a sandwich.”
“Okay, yeah, I could see it being that scary. My sister was….” Shit he hadn’t meant to mention Jazz. “She was the only one who cared sometimes.” May as well rip that bandaid off.
“Yeah?” Jason asked, taking a drink from his coffee cup. “Didn’t know you had a sister.”
“My family and I don’t see each other anymore. It’s for the best.” He hoped Jason wouldn’t ask more questions, because ‘my parents sold me out to the government that only knew where I was because of the Justice League which is why I hate them and by association your dad, and now my sister is in hiding in a different state with a new identity’ was way too difficult to explain. “I left before they could kick me out.”
Danny watched Jason’s face twist into a frown. “Bigots suck. Sorry man.”
“Yeah…. Well…” Danny busied himself with finishing his burger. Then, once he chewed and swallowed. “Wait. Is your dad the one that fell into the champagne tower last year?”
Jason groaned, “he’s not always like that I promise.”
“No I get it. A weird ‘Family Friend’ invited us to his fancy party so he could hit on my mom once. I accidentally on purpose took out the entire buffet table including a cheese fountain so we had to go home.”
“Cheese fountain?”
“You know those chocolate fountains?” Danny asked. Jason nodded. “Like that, but with fondue cheese instead. And before you ask why, all I can say is it was in Wisconsin.”
Jason watched him with an unreadable expression for a moment, and Danny assumed he was processing it, because when the expression broke, Jason was laughing.
He looked so much younger when he laughed like that, and Danny remembered that they had both had, in their own ways, a rough life. “Yeah. I know. I was finding cheese in the weirdest places for weeks.”
“Did you get invited back?” Danny’s heart ached with the fact that a month or so later, Everything Fell Apart.
“No… I…” he cut himself off, remembering the horrified looks his parents gave him as their weapons, the ones he fixed, were turned against the ‘beast’ that ‘possessed’ their son. The looks mimicking the ones they gave him when the party screeched to a halt as he did his best impression of a Scooby Doo villain being unmasked. The screams of shock turning into ones of horror. The -
“-anny? Danny?” He blinked and shook his head.
“What? Oh, sorry.” He took another drink from the coffee, emptying the cup. “No. I never was asked back. You done?” He looked at their empty plates and grabbed the tray. “We should get to the library. Though I’m sure someone as good looking as you has plenty, these x-es won’t find themselves.” He was overcompensating for zoning out now, words coming out faster than normal.
“Yeah… are… you okay?” Jason asked, as Danny bussed their tray and grabbed his backpack, a backpack bought by his tutoring money. A tutoring gig he desperately did not want to fuck up with his own bullshit.
“Me? Fine. More than. I just zone out sometimes. Come on.” Danny’s words were still coming out too fast. He took a few breaths during the couple seconds Jason took getting his things, trying to ground himself as much as possible. He was going to be normal. He was going to be normal if it killed him. Again.
The walk to the library was quiet and Danny was thankful for that. He needed to get his head on straight if he was going to be any help to Jason and he still had his own homework to do after. As they walked in, both Danny and Jason instinctively looked towards the desk where Barbara usually worked, but she wasn’t there, some other guy was checking in books with quiet beeps.
Danny had learned over the last month that while Dick, Tim and Damian were Jason’s official siblings, Barbara was an unofficial one and he liked her the most.
It made sense, since she didn’t seem to pry into Jason’s life the way Jazz would have if she was here. Not that he would have minded her prying for how much he missed her, but four years ago he would have hated it.
—
Jason knew the haunted and hunted look that had settled into Danny’s eyes. The way he trailed off into something vacant. How his breathing seemed to get stuck in his chest. Which is why he tried to interrupt the cycle before he could spiral. Something big happened to him, and Jason knew he wouldn’t want to break down in a cafe in front of people.
Thankfully he seemed to snap out of it quickly, instead overcompensating into energetic. The message was clear. ‘Don’t ask about what just happened.’ Carefully, Jason let Danny lead him into the library, aware of his positioning and making sure not to follow too far behind or loom too much. Considering he had at least six inches on Danny, that last part was hard, but he tried.
He could feel the pit spiraling in him, circling and coiling like a dragon deep in his chest. Itching to do…. Something. It wasn’t punch or claw or fight. This was new. He didn’t like it in the slightest.
He looked over to where Babs usually was, then remembered she had a class, criminal justice degree, how apt, as he and Danny went towards what was now their spot. Jason found he had the sudden impulse to pull Danny’s chair out for him, and shoved that particular useless idea back down into the abyss it belonged in.
—
Danny looked over at Jason who stood at the edge of the table looking…. Angry? Confused? and pulled out his own books. “I promise, my zoning out isn’t contagious.” He said, looking up at Jason and kicking the chair across from him out from under the table for Jason to sit. He gave a wry smile, “if it was, I don’t think anyone in my high school would have made it.”
Jason snorted a laugh, snapping out of whatever thoughts he had been thinking. Jason pulled the chair out further and sat, sitting more comfortably than he used to. More of the true Jason, Danny was realizing, less of the person he was supposed to be. In another lifetime…. But no. He couldn’t… not while he was being hunted. It wouldn’t be fair to Jason to have to hide such a huge part of himself and his past.
Not to mention he hadn’t ever come out to Jazz and his friends. Well he had…. But more in the ‘hey I’m dead but not really’ way and less in the ‘so I like guys’ way.
But in spite of those barriers, this tentative friendship with Jason was enough to keep him happy.
Which made the next kick in the teeth from the universe completely expected.
All he had wanted was to walk home in peace. Sure it was almost midnight, in Gotham, but still. He made it most of the way, and was slinking through the Bowery when it happened.
Guys with dark clothes and weapons were suddenly in front of him. He turned only to see more at his back. There had to be five in total? Or was it six? Danny didn’t have time to count.
“Hey guys.” He hedged, muscles tensing as he raised his hands to show he wasn’t a threat. “Don’t mind me, I’m just trying to get home. Long walk and all that. If I could just…. Scooch past you?” Danny took a step to do just that and the lead goon swung at him with a baton.
He hopped back slightly, dodging the hit when it came. “Not a chance. Boss needs some…. Help with his latest ideas. You’re coming with us.”
Danny ran through his options in his head. Option 1: get kidnapped. Option 2: get the shit kicked out of him. Option 3: beat the shit out of them and get labeled as a possible bat to be or possible rogue to be. Option 4: go fully ghost and either escape unscathed but wind up more firmly on the GIW’s radar.
Option two or three would wind up happening, because he wasn’t going to put himself at the mercy of the Bat-ass again, and he wasn’t going to offer himself up on a silver platter to the GIW.
The moment one tried to grab him, Danny dodged out of the way, and that seemed to bring the goons on him en masse. They seemed well practiced, but considering it was Gotham, there wasn’t a big surprise there. The next few minutes were a flurry of elbows and knees, punches and kicks, batons and clubs.
Danny would dodge and counter, disarm one and fling their weapon across the street. He would have sore ribs and bruises from his elbows to his knuckles come morning but he was slowly winnowing them down. He had a brief thought about the conservation of ninjutsu, as the fewer goons there were the stronger they seemed to get. The realistic answer was they were less concerned with hurting each other when there were fewer of them, he knew that. But everything was more fun with ninjas.
When there were three left, one threw a punch that connected with his nose. There was a pop and crunch and a hot rush of blood down his face even before the pain set in. He spat out the blood that collected in his mouth from the way his head snapped back when he was punched. Another one came at him, and his own years of training caught the guy’s arm, judo throwing them into another look and sending them both careening into a wall. The move was trickier with gravity, but he made it work.
Danny looked up at the last remaining goon. He grinned, teeth too sharp and stained with his own blood, eyes glowing just the faintest green. “Run.”
They did.
Unfortunately for the goon, they ran smack into the chest of one Batman.

so lately i’ve been obsessed with a 141 dancer au
gaz runs classes, has a youtube channel and quickly becomes one of the most sought after choreographers in the music video scene. soap is his dance partner for his classes, he helps run them and does demonstrations with him
ghost is also a choreographer and he’s gaz’s Arch Nemesis
he's famous for never performing his routines, never doing public appearances without his skull mask and being highly exclusive with who he allows to perform his choreo which earns him his name (since he’s a ghost creator). gaz however is a social media darling, his classes and videos regularly doing huge numbers
they both popped up around the same time and are neck and neck in terms of popularity and skill and they immediately rub each other the wrong way
gaz accuses ghost of not actually choreographing his routines himself bc no one has ever seen him dance and ghost thinks gaz is a clout chaser who's just in it for the fame instead of passion
he became a dancer as a way to channel his rage after years of being an underground fighter, the discipline and physicality helping him more than fights ever did. he hates the thought of someone just using it just to get famous when it literally saved his life
deep down they know their accusations are wrong and they have a grudging appreciation for the other's talent but they'd both rather die than admit it
price is a famous dancer turned director they both work with frequently and they always fight over him; trying to get their routines picked for his music videos. he's also the only one in the industry who's ever seen the ghost perform (before he got famous and before the Incident™)
he finally gets fed up with them constantly being at each other's throats and hires them both to work together and choreograph a joint routine. they're both famous in their own right but this video is for a huge artist so neither of them can refuse no matter how much they hate the other
gaz has a gymnastics background but also a ballet background which lends him to a more fluid style whereas ghost’s style is stronger, more masculine with sharper movements so they naturally end up butting heads
then there's soap who has a completely different style altogether, focusing on a more modern, breakdancer style which makes him see everything completely differently
but it also adds to his self-doubt bc he didn't have a formal dance education, he built his entire repertoire by himself. people see him as inferior to gaz who has that very formal, highly disciplined style. his insecurities about only ever being seen as gaz's demonstration partner and that he can only do gaz’s routines so all his skill is just an extension of him instead of being seen as a dancer in his own right forces him to adopt a rigid - destructive - perfectionism in himself and his body
soap meets ghost before the first rehearsal. he gets to the studio early to practice when sees this beautiful man dancing
he has no idea who he is but he moves so seamlessly, almost better than gaz, and he immediately falls a little in love. the man catches him watching in the mirror and he flusters, getting worse as the man just smirks at him and flawlessly completes the routine
soap tries to save face and asks him to teach him the routine he's doing
the man agrees, introducing himself as simon. the style of the routine is familiar to soap but he can't focus on it when simon's hands are on his waist, guiding him through the steps; his chest pressed up against his back. they work together beautifully, picking up each other's body language and dancing together easier and better than they've ever danced with anyone
then gaz arrives and the vibe in the studio immediately changes
simon's easy confidence becomes hostility, pulling up the skull gaiter he'd let hang around his neck as he practically pushes soap behind him to square up to gaz
soap’s shocked when gaz hits back with the same energy until he realises it's the same way he acts whenever he talks about ghost and his stomach drops
he steps out from behind ghost to side with gaz and the betrayal in simon's eyes hurts more than anything he's ever felt
from there it's romeo and juliet; camp gaz versus camp ghost as they fight over every step of the choreo and soap is the poor bastard stuck in the middle
soap tries to channel that “you’re my best friend’s rival, i have to hate you,” mindset but he can’t forget the way it felt to dance with simon
and how much he wants to do it again
#my friend mimi introduced me to gymnast gaz which made me think he grew up in competitive gymnastics and left it to be a dancer#whether his family was disappointed in that decision i havent figured out yet#the Incident™️ was roba getting simon directly from the underground and manipulating him into working at his strip club where price finds h#and pulls him out when roba tries to force him into sex work too#soap earned his name for being such a clean dancer and never making mistakes during performances#which just make his insecurities worse bc now he has to live up to his new reputation as well as fight of the gazs partner image hes gotten#farah and alex are definitely team gaz and i think nikolai would be his manager#then im thinking alejandro and rudy are team ghost with laswell as his manager#then bc soap is the odd man out hes used as tie breaks when they get into arguments about what move should go next in the routine#the pressure of picking correctly and the routine being essentially on his shoulders freaking him out just as much as having to choose#between his best friend who expects him to always side with him and ghost who always has good ideas#this isnt a negative haz au btw i think it would be a good way to explore his arrogance and stubborness#hes decided ghost is his enemy and nothing can pull him away from that#(except for what eventually does but im not sure what that is yet lmao)#i want soap at some point to completely overwork himself and his bad knee swells and gets irritated and finally gives out#and its ghost who forces him to take a break and convinces him that working his body to death wont help him be a better dancer#cue tender wound care and ghost backstory as he reassures soap that he is an amazing dancer#he offers soap a no stress space at his studio if he ever wants it & gaz overhears and thinks soap is betraying him and leaving so cue angs#we’re a team. ghost team#coming out of my cage and i’ve been doing just fine.txt#soapghost#ghostsoap#ghoap#john soap mactavish#kyle gaz garrick#simon ghost riley#save post#john price#cod 141#soapghost au

DPXDC prompt: Valentine's day spirit. Superbat edition.
When Phantom sets foot on the Justice League base many years later, he expects anything but not Flash pointing finger at him and screaming about "legendary child who made Superbat canon".
~~~~
Being in Metropolis because of a ghost hunt right in the middle of a battle between Lex Luthor and Superman was not the best outcome, especially considering that Jack had his three-year-old son with him. But without such a combination of circumstances, they would never have found out that "Ghost!" "Daddy, no!" Ectoblast that Jack shot at the target of their hunt touches Superman and..really hurts him.
There were two sides to Danny-the ghostbuster's son and the astronerd. It is clear which half of him did not have a chance to win.
Danny threw his space rocket toy aside and grabbed father's arm. In the next second, boy had already sunk his teeth into Jack's fingers, forcing him to drop weapon. Youngling quickly jumped off and picked up ectoblast and then ran towards Superman. "Fly away! I'll hold him!" Danny stood up to try to cover up ghost (or alien?) in case Dad took not one but a whole bunch of shooting things with him again.
Jack: Get away from my son, ghost. Superman: Sir, I'm sure this is some kind of misunderstanding, I'm not a ghost. Jack: Danny, come to me, he's trying to hide his identity and manipulate us. Danny: No. If the heroes are being attacked, then someone must protect them too. Jack: But he's a ghost.. Danny: Alien or ghost is not so important, Daddy. He's in pain, and he's protecting this city, not haunting it. It's wrong to try to catch him for experiments. I forbid you to do that. Jack: Danny, champ, you're wrong.
Lex: Hah, what an interesting substance. Despite the other aggregate state, or rather its absence, it is so similar to kryptonite. Superman: Lex, is this a portable lab? Now is not the time, in case you haven't noticed. Lex: There is always time for science. I think my colleague will agree, right? "Similar to kryptonite?" Jack muttered to himself.
Jack: So Superman wasn't my target. And we are not colleagues. There is only one insanely rich man with questionable moral values with whom I am ready to do work, and your surname is clearly not Masters. Lex: It's a pity, but still, if you want to carry out the delivery of your wonderful weapons or exchange experiences, then call this number. Luther quickly shoves a business card into Fenton's hand. Jack*throws it away*: Come on, son, let's go back to the hotel, you've skinned your knees.
~~~The Evening. The Roof of the mentioned hotel~~~
"My friend Sam is also very frightening. And she also likes dark.“ The boy paused for a minute of thinking. “You want to kiss your goth friend?" "W-What makes you think that, kid. We’re colleagues, I respect him very much and.." "So you want to. It’s okay, I’d like to kiss Sam too but I’m afraid she’s gonna hit me. You have the same problem?" "It’s a little more complicated for adults." Kal begins to explain but stumbles upon Danny’s completely unimpressed look. Yeah, this boy apparently has heard 'kids would understand when they grow up' lectures at least thousand times. "But you’re basically right."
~~~~
When Batman himself comes to their hotel the next day as a representative of the Justice League to make sure that Mr. Fenton has no desire to harm Superman in the future and to tell that Superman is not going to press charges because of the ectoblast that injured him, Danny refuses to leave the room.
Jack: Oh, Danny, I thought you dropped your space rocket yesterday, it's a good that Alicia's Christmas present isn't lost. Danny: Well, dad, I left it on the roof of a bad bad man, yeah, but Uncle Kal returned it last night and we talked for a while. Jack: About what? Space, my little star? *Father immediately assumes that Danny would like to ask about everything real alien*. Boy*blushes and shakes his head negatively*: No, not about it.
Jack: Then what it was about? Danny: Secret superhero things. I can't tell you. I agreed to withhold that information as part of a pinky swear. Batman: And what about me, young man? You can tell me, right? Batman couldn't resist talking with such a cute kid. The boy thinks only for a second before hurriedly trying to push his father out of the room. Danny: Dad, come out for a minute and don't eavesdrop. I'll tell you when you can come in. The big man laughingly obeys. Lil child checks the reliability of the closed door and runs up to Batman. Danny: And so, Mr. Batman, first promise not to laugh or hit Uncle Kal. Batman: I promise? Danny: Good. This is very important information. Batman: I'm listening.
Danny: He thinks you're terrifying and wants to kiss you. And since he is afraid that you will hit him for this, I recommended him to appease you with a pie cooked according to his mother's recipe. Well, you know, since you love sweets and his parents' farm has the most wonderful apples in all states. He rarely cooks himself, but he will try for you, so even if he doesn't succeed, pretend that you liked it, please. Batman:...
Batman: Would you like to work in intelligence for the Justice League when you grow up? Danny: Actually, I want to be an astronaut. Batman: Our base is located in space. Danny:
Danny: Hmm, then I'll think about your offer.
Batman: Great. It's a pleasure doing business with you, Mr. Fenton. You can count on a job recommendation from me. Do you want anything as compensation for your consultation? Danny: Actually, yes. Mr. Batman, tell me honestly, are you a bat on a frugivorous diet like Giant golden-crowned flying fox or you are a Vampire Bat? Sam says that such a big bat can only be a vegetarian and uncle Kal said your son was more than happy to steal strawberries from his garden with Superboy but..
~~~
Batman tries to behave naturally for a week. However, the sweet tooth inside him still makes him clamp Superman in the corner and question him. "Where the hell are the pies you promised to cook for me, Clark?"

cherry wine — lando norris
lando norris x fem!reader [6.8k] summary: this is what you got for humouring him. lando was bored during the break and needed something to latch onto, it was just unfortunate timing that he’d become weirdly obsessed with your journey to… climax. warnings: 18+ best friends to lovers, explicit smut, experimental masturbation, sex toys, public sex, oral sex (f receiving), inexperienced reader a/n: okay so HEAVILY requested and it was a lot of fun to write this so i hope you find this equally enjoyable to read it!! thank you for all your love lately, it makes my heart sososo happy. as always, don't be a ghost reader, i'd love to hear your thoughts :) ily enjoy
You walked quickly, one foot in front of the other to put some space between you and the restaurant you’d just been spending the past godforsaken hour in. The shoes you were wearing pinched your toes uncomfortably and you willed yourself to hold out for just a few more moments as your phone vibrated in your hand.
I see you, the text read and you looked around the dark street before landing on the McLaren parked by the curb on the other side of the street. It wasn’t hard to miss, given how incredibly flashy and shiny it looked under the street lamp.
You hurried over, like the guy was going to come out of the restaurant and chase you, opening the door and taking a seat with an exaggerated sigh, happy that the night was over and you were in a safe space again. You reached over and slipped your shoes off with a grumble, sitting upright and finally looking over at your best friend behind the wheel.
Lando was giving you a half-amused look, eyebrows raised with one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding his phone. His jaw was working incessantly on the piece of gum, and it was annoying you how it seemed to add to the smugness he was radiating. You gritted your teeth and gestured with your hand to the wheel.
“Couldn’t you have picked another car?” You asked, referring to the over the top McLaren you were currently sitting in.
“You say that as if I have more cars to choose from.” Lando turned the key in the ignition. “Besides, you’re the one who hates the Jolly.”
You grimaced because he was right, it was a humours looking thing and though your friend drove for a living, it was the most unsafe you’d felt while sitting in it. The car didn’t even have seatbelts or doors.
“Can we get smoothies on the way home?” You asked, changing the subject and it didn’t go unnoticed by Lando who threw you a sideways glance as he pulled out of the parking spot. “I’m dying for something cold.”
“Sure.” He nodded slowly and you knew what he was waiting for but you weren’t in the mood to indulge him just yet.
The date had been a disaster, as had all the other four previous dates. You’d let him choose the place, not expecting the extravagant restaurant with the overpriced menu but you’d brushed it off because you - quite frankly - refused to have another failed date. The night hadn’t gone better though.
“So, are you gonna make me beg?” Lando broke the drawn out silence, shooting you a half smile. “What was wrong with him this time?”
“He claimed to have forgotten his wallet.” You sucked your teeth in mild irritation. “We only had drinks before he was shamelessly staring at the waitresses arses and making them feel uncomfortable.”
Lando made a sound in his throat that sounded a lot like sympathy and you were grateful for it. He had a habit of poking fun at your disastrous dates and sometimes you allowed it because they were comically bad. But he could also recognise when the time wasn’t right and it definitely wasn’t, this time.
“He sounds like a twat.” He took a turn into your favourite convenience store and shot you a searching glance. “Don’t tell me you paid for him.”
You rolled your eyes. “Of course not, I paid for my part and then hid in the restrooms to call you.”
Not to mention the fact that the man had become so pissed that he wasn’t even there when you’d gotten out of the restrooms, not even bothering to stay around to hear your well rehearsed excuse. They had started to flow so naturally, with how many times you’ve had to use them.
Something about that made you very bitter and also hopeless.
“Good girl.” Lando reached over to pat your thigh. “Don’t let fuckheads like him walk all over you.”
You huffed out a humourless laugh, swatting his hand away and watching him unbuckle his seatbelt before reaching for his wallet between you. Lando paused and glanced up at you.
“The usual?” He asked, rather uselessly because you never picked anything else than mango flavoured smoothies.
But you still humoured him with a nod and watched him climb out and head for the store. You watched him in silence, tearing your eyes away when they started drifting down and scolding yourself for checking your best friend out. What the hell was wrong with you?
You told yourself it was because of the long line of failed dates. Monaco was full of twats and rich snobs who couldn’t see past their noses. It was hard to not take it personally though and you were starting to enter the dangerous territory of self doubt. Maybe you were the one who was too picky, or boring or even too inexperienced to know what to do with men who showed an ounce of interest in you.
Adulthood was truly a rude awakening.
The scuffle of shoes against pavement drew you out of your thoughts and you looked to your side just in time for Lando to open the door and climb inside. He was juggling two cups and a inconspicuous plastic bag so you hurried to grab the cups from him before he ruined the beautiful and expensive interior.
“What’s that?” You asked, curiosity getting the better of you, nodding at the plastic bag as you took a sip of your drink.
There was something in Lando’s face that unnerved you a bit, making you frown when he plucked his cup from your hands and thrust the bag into it instead. Whatever was in the bag was a little heavy, but your interest was piqued enough to set the cup in the holder and peer inside.
It took a second for you to realise what you were looking at, feeling your body go up in flames when your eyes finally registered what was sitting in front of you.
“Lando!” You yelped, letting go of the bag like it had burnt you. “Why — What —“ You scrunched your nose as your friend cackled, rather amused by your reaction. “Did you get that from the store?”
He nodded with the straw between his lips, looking all kinds of cheeky and you reached over to slap at his arm.
“I didn’t even know they sold things like these in there.” You looked down at your lap where the bag was resting, frowning a little dubiously at it like it was gonna come alive and bite you.
“They do.” He said, rather unhelpfully. “I won’t be able to look Mr. Lorenzi in the eyes after that but it was worth it.”
You let out a small laugh at the thought before you went quiet, separating the flaps of the bag and reaching inside.
Bullet vibrator, discover a happy you.
The slogan made you snort unattractively, waving the packaging in your hand and hearing it rattle as you gave the curly haired man a bemused stare.
“Why would you buy this?” You asked, letting him grab the offending thing from your hand when he reached for it.
He turned it in his hand, looking all too happy about it that it made something weird swirl in your stomach. You busied yourself with taking a sip of your smoothie, but it tasted like ashes in your mouth all of a sudden.
“It’s for you.” He said and you rolled your eyes. “What? It’s a neat looking thing. It’s in coral and it’s got… Twenty functions! Fuck me.”
His voice went up in slight wonder and the whole situation felt so bizarre that you couldn’t even find the right words to use.
“Why would you buy that for me?” You asked, a little irked and Lando must’ve sensed the shift of tone in your voice because he glanced up from where he’d been reading from the packaging, eyes a little wide in the darkness.
“You’ve told me about your problem.” He said, slowly like he was choosing his words carefully. “This might help you along a bit.”
“You promised not to throw that in my face!” You squeaked, feeling your face warm up and Lando jumped when you shot your hand out to slap him.
“I’m not!” He loudly protested. “I’m not making fun of you, I’m just saying. This will make you come.”
You slapped your hands to your face, not even caring about the makeup you’d spent hours putting on, and groaned loudly in hopes to make him shut up. It wasn’t like this was the first time you talked openly about sex, but you didn’t really like it when your masturbation habits were the topic. It was odd.
“I’ll never drink again.” You promised but you both knew it was a lie.
It had been a small moment of vulnerability, one that you barely remembered but you could recount the embarrassing parts and that’s what made you feel a little sick to your stomach. You’d come home after a late night of drinking and the both of you had sat face to face on his couch and talked about anything between the heavens and earth. You didn’t even know how it came up in conversation, but Lando wasn’t gonna stop you as you confided in him about your issues.
Okay, so maybe you had a hard time making yourself finish. Maybe you were more inexperienced than the average twenty something year old, but you weren’t ashamed of it. You were well and truly aware that everyone were in different stages of their lives but it still made you a little sad sometimes.
Especially when your dates turned out to be pits.
“Just take it, bug.” Lando slipped the package into the plastic bag and placed it in your lap. He started the engine and you took some comfort in the rumble of it. “Let me know how it goes.”
* * * *
it’s a 2/10
You fired off the text before you could overthink it, letting your phone fall to your stomach as you glanced at the offending phallic shape on your bed. Maybe you weren’t in the right headspace, or maybe it was just wrong for you. But it definitely didn’t feel right and you’d given up after twenty minutes of nothing but frustration.
The vibration of your phone made you jump slightly and you picked it up.
nooooo
did you give it a real try though?
of course I did, you melt
it’s just not working
The next time you saw Lando, was when Max had invited your group of friends for a pub crawl. Max had already ordered a round when you came stumbling in, a little late and warm from having hurried all the way over from your apartment. You went around to greet everyone with kisses and pats to the shoulders before taking a seat in the booth beside Lando.
He draped an arm over the backrest and poked you in the shoulder, prompting you to look up at him.
“I have something for you.” He said and you frowned at the smile on his face, shaking your head when recognition struck you.
You glanced around the table to make sure no one was listening in before leaning into him. Lando’s eyes flitted to your mouth when you got close and you did your best to ignore it and the flicker of heat in your belly.
Christ, you really needed to get laid. There was no way that you were finding your best friend hot. The very same best friend who’d burp in your face after having fizzy drinks and pee with the bathroom door open because he knew the sound of the stream made your skin crawl.
“Not again.” You whispered, a little sternly because you weren’t going to be put through that again.
But you figured that this is what you got for humouring him. Lando was bored during the race break and needed something to latch onto, it was just unfortunate timing that he’d become weirdly obsessed with your journey to… climax.
“This one’s supposed to be better.” He said, like that’d help you change your mind. “It’s a… stimulator.”
“Do I even wanna know what it’s supposed to stimulate?” You asked quietly, like your cheeks weren’t already fifteen degrees hotter.
It was clear that Lando was enjoying this way more than you were, smile too cheeky and happy and his cheeks were flushed. It could’ve been from the alcohol he’d consumed, judging by his breath but you knew that he wasn’t a lightweight.
Lando glanced down at you and your eyes widened at the smirk playing on his lips, placing both your hands over your crotch.
“I think you know.” He whispered, giggling a little when you pushed at him.
That’s how you found yourself staring at the new packaging on your bed, eyebrows knitted together in contemplation. You didn’t really know how something called a clit sucker was supposed to get you there and you really didn’t want to know where Lando had gotten it from.
You knew that if he kept this up, you’d end up with a nightstand drawer full of sex toys that did absolute fuckall to do their job. Maybe the few drinks you’d had earlier would help you relax a bit.
So with that in mind, you yanked your pants off and laid back on your bed, legs a little spread and eyes fastened on the ceiling. You tried to ignore the dread filling your stomach as you brought the toy between your legs, holding the button with the pad of your finger until it buzzed to life.
“Shit.” You swore quietly as you directed it between your legs, kind of enjoying the buzzing as you moved it around.
The moment it touched your clit, you jumped and moved your hand away. That hadn’t felt as good as you’d hoped, and you sighed in slight irritation.
It was like the universe was in on some kind of sick joke to make your life a living hell, because your phone vibrated on your nightstand and you glanced over to see Lando’s name on your screen. You ignored it, turning yourself around and laying down on your stomach to give it a second try.
The toy was still buzzing, making a sound that was a little bit distracting but also easy enough to ignore as you went under your panties this time. You knew that you should’ve probably worked yourself up or even invested in lube because you were everything but turned on at the moment. And not to mention how the dry silicone only made it all the more unpleasant.
Your phone vibrated again, another incoming text and you buried your head into your pillow to groan out loud before tossing the toy away. You watched it roll over the edge of the bed, landing on the floor with a clatter that made you grimace.
you tried it yet? ;)
I’m guessing by the silence that you have
It took a great amount of control to not roll your eyes at the winky face. You also refused to smile at how you could’ve easily imagined his face right now.
you’re taking an awful lot of interest in my sex life, it’s creeping me out
I’m guessing you didn’t….
???
get yourself all the way over there
Jesus. The amount of embarrassment you felt could probably be seen all over your face and you were suddenly grateful that this wasn’t a face to face talk. You sat up and leaned against the headboard with an exhale.
How were you supposed to say no, I didn’t fucking come, without actually typing the words? Your fingers hovered over the keyboard.
1/10
The reply was immediate, like he’d been sitting with the text conversation open and waiting for your reply.
oh what?! disappointing! we’ll do better next time
You pulled a pillow into your lap and hid a smile in it.
The next time, turned out to be five days later when he’d managed to pull you out of another horrendous date. The date itself had been fine, but the guy was everything but aware of his personal hygiene and it made you grit your teeth every time he smiled and flashed those murky chompers at you from across the table.
Lando laughed until he cried on the way home when you recalled the date, and you had to calm him down before he veered you both off the road. He’d only just gotten his car and you weren’t too keen to see it in a ditch.
“I’m swearing off of men.” You said when he turned into your street, making Lando snort. “What? I am. I’m convinced all the good guys are taken.”
Lando reached a hand out without taking his eyes off the road, pinching you in the side and making you squeak in indignation.
“Thanks for that.” He said sarcastically, referring to himself and his very available relationship status. “And you’re not swearing off of guys, are you mad? You just need to have patience.”
“I’ve already had plenty of patience, thank you. I don’t have any more in me to spare.” You rooted around in your bag for a hair tie, huffing when you found one to tie your hair up and out of the way. “I already put up with your stupid arse.”
“Hey!” He pouted and you smiled in apology. “You love me. And you’ll love me even more when you see what I got—“
He paused to reach into the backseat, and you watched with a slight bemused smile as he dug around until he made a sound of delight, sitting back in his seat. Your eyes zeroed in on the package in his hand, shaking your head before he even said anything.
“Not again.” You said in a whine, pushing the cardboard package away when he went to hand it to you. “We’re not doing this.”
Lando blew out a breath, pushing it more insistently until you relented and grabbed it from his hold. It was surprisingly heavy for such a small box.
“I’ve read that this is a game changer.” He said, looking a little too proud and it made you grin despite yourself. “Look, it’s even shaped like a rose, how cool is that?”
“Mate, you’ve got way too much spare time on your hands.” You giggled when he narrowed his eyes at you. “Fine. But you have to promise to let it go if this doesn’t work out.”
Lando opened his mouth to protest, shutting it quickly at your stern look and nodding once. It didn’t look believable in the slightest.
“Okay. Yeah, promise.” He said and you nodded, reaching over the console to press a quick kiss to his stubbled cheek in thanks for saving you yet again.
You climbed out of the car and closed the door, waiting until he’d rolled the window down all way. There was mischief written all over his face and somehow you knew he was gonna say something obnoxious as parting words.
“I expect updates tonight.” He said, wagging his eyebrows and you smiled, turning around before he could see how absolutely flustered you became.
“Don’t hold your breath.” You shouted over your shoulder, walking up to your apartment complex.
Once you were inside, you grabbed a quick shower to wash the night away and poured yourself a sad looking bowl of cereal before getting into bed with your laptop in your hands. It was still early, too early to sleep so you figured a few episodes of a show wouldn’t ruin your sleep too much.
It proved to be too boring for your overactive mind. You’d devoured the cereal and was now laying, sunken down in bed with your mind wandering and attention not at all on what was happening on the screen. You hit the space bar button to pause, eyes drifting to your nightstand where the newest toy sat, innocently but so mocking.
You narrowed your eyes at it, staring for a minute before you reached for it and pushed the laptop off to the side.
“Fucking Lando.” You cursed him quietly, ripping the package open and fishing the innocent looking rose out.
It was pink, on the verge of red and it looked very pretty to be a vibrator. You located the button, holding it down until it came to life and your eyes climbed to your forehead as you pressed on the button again; cycling through the different powers and rhythms.
It felt like clockwork, sinking down into bed and closing your eyes with a deep breath. A frown etched itself on your face when you reached into your sweats and underwear with it, feeling it buzz away until you located your clit and the strength of the vibrations made you gasp.
It wasn’t too much too soon, but kind of perfect and a spark of hope flared in your chest as you thought that, maybe this was it. Maybe you’d found the toy that would bring you high enough and tip you over the edge.
A little moan left your lips as you closed your eyes, letting the toy do its work and you couldn’t help but smile slightly at the pleasant feeling. You’d never really gotten the joys of female masturbation when your friends talked about it, but you were starting to.
Your newfound hope didn’t blossom into anything bigger though, because it took about ten minutes before you realised that you wouldn’t be taken much further than you already were. It felt good, but it wasn’t mind blowing. And frustration started to seep into your pores before you angrily yanked your hand out and tossed the toy away after switching it off.
You reached for your phone, teeth gritted because you wouldn’t cry out of frustration. You wouldn’t.
maybe a life of celibacy is healthier for me
The response came in a minute later.
don’t be stupid
was it that bad?
it was… fine. but it wasn’t enough
There was no reply after that, and you chewed your lip. Maybe you’d gone too far with discussing your masturbation and lack of orgasms with Lando. You’d been best friends for so long that the lines were starting to blur. You’d never known any boundaries between the two of you, and that’s how you both liked it. But there was something different about this whole thing. It felt different.
Your phone vibrated once again and you glanced down.
I’ll do more research
The text made you smile despite yourself.
we won’t give up
A week later, you found yourself up in the mountains overlooking Monaco. Lando was sitting beside you, dressed nicely in a suit that he’d definitely ruined by sitting on the grass and you were in a dress that looked pretty but was a little stifling to wear. There had been a gala earlier tonight and Lando had begged you to come with him, even though the both of you despised anything that had to do with overpriced champagne and snooty people.
You’d had a good time despite yourselves, bumping into a few friends from the grid and dancing the night away before it was time to call it a night. Lando hadn’t been ready to go home just yet though, so you’d driven out to your favourite spot in the city.
The lights from the houses and the marina was glittering, the water so mesmerising that you couldn’t tear your eyes away. It was a beautiful night, not too hot but pleasantly nice.
“I have another date on Wednesday.” You told Lando, breaking the comfortable silence.
The man in question turned his head to look at you, and you saw his eyebrows furrow in mild intrigue.
“Another loser?” He joked, but his tone felt a little too flat and it made something weird turn in your stomach.
Usually he was way more interested and would fire off multiple questions before asking to see pictures. You chalked it up to him being tired from a long evening and hummed, scooting closer to him to rest your head on his shoulder.
He immediately turned his head and pressed his lips against the top of your skull, like he was on autopilot. It was something he often did, but it still managed to make your heart jump a little.
“He seems nice.” You told him truthfully. “Probably not a relationship type, but he seems like a good time.”
Your hair ruffled when Lando huffed out a humourless laugh and there was something so off about it that it made you pick your head up from his shoulder and look at him in confusion.
“What?” You asked, feeling a little defensive all of a sudden. “I’m trying to think positive.”
“Why don’t you hold off a bit on the dating? Let the guys come to you instead.” He suggested, glancing away from your probing eyes.
You could read him too well and it unnerved Lando beyond belief.
“I’ve tried that, it doesn’t work. I either get someone who doesn’t know what basic hygiene is, or someone who flirts with other people in front of me, a guy who snaps at waiters and not to mention the men who find out I’m friends with the Lando Norris and will go above and beyond to have a chance to meet you.”
“Don’t say that.” He grimaced and you pulled back a bit, crossing your arms over your chest.
“Don’t say what?”
“My name like it’s something inconvenient for you.” He took in your pinched facial expression and softened his tone a bit. “I’m just saying you deserve way better than what these tossers can offer you.”
You stayed quiet, opting to lay down on your back with a sigh instead. He was right, but you weren’t about to say it out loud.
Lando wouldn’t have that though, laying down on his side and propping his elbow on the grass to stare at you. You tried to hold back the smile threatening to spill, because he was hovering over you and looking adorable that it was impossible to stay annoyed.
“Are you mad at me?” He asked, smiling like he knew the answer was in the negative because he was well aware that you could never stay angry with him. “You can’t stay mad at me, I’m too cute.”
You placed your palm against his face and pushed at it, hearing and feeling him laugh against your hand until he reached to grab and yank it away from his face.
He turned your hand and pressed a kiss to your palm, the gesture all too intimate for it to be between two best friends and it took everything in your power to not read into his small gesture. You held your breath when he turned your hand over and gazed at it, face contemplative; Lips downturned in thought and brows knitted together.
“Have you used your hands before?” He asked and you smiled in slight confusion, not expecting the odd question.
“No, I use my feet.”
Lando pinched the thin skin of your wrist in retaliation and you squeaked out a laugh.
“I meant for… Your experiments.” He grimaced at the words and you knew he used that to lessen the embarrassment from your part. It didn’t do much though, not with the way he was staring at you like he was looking into your soul.
You held your breath, staring at his face and you knew that yours was heating up faster than you could blink. But it was hard to look away from the way his pupils were starting to expand, trapping his bottom lip with his teeth in what you knew was a nervous tick.
“I wouldn’t know how.” You told him truthfully after a long stretch of silence. There was no way for you to correctly use your fingers on yourself when a toy couldn't give you an orgasm.
"Do you want me to show you how?" He asked, voice quiet and you could feel your eyes widen before you could stop them.
There was a moment where you thought you'd heard wrong, that your sanity had finally gone out the window but Lando was looking at you like he was waiting for a response and there was some conflict in his eyes that you were sure that your eyes were reflecting.
What did this mean for your friendship? Would this ruin everything? What if he just wanted to satisfy his own fucked up needs and then pretend like nothing happened? Those were questions that you wanted to ask, but it wasn't what came out of your mouth when you opened it.
"Yes."
Lando looked as surprised as you felt, like he hadn't expected you to agree to his insane proposition but it didn’t mean that he felt immense relief. He hadn’t really thought of how he’d react or what to even say if you had turned him down. All he really knew was that this had been playing in his mind ever since that damned night when you’d confessed to him. He couldn’t get the image of him between your legs since then.
He hadn’t expected to feel a surge of jealousy when you started going on your dates, but he’d hated every minute of it. It had only lessened the sting a bit when he realised that they were all essentially going nowhere and that Lando was the one who got to pick you up at the end of the night. Minus the fact that he hated how down you were after the dates. But he had the opportunity to be there and cheer you up whenever you needed it, so he counted that as a win. Anything that involved your smile that he was the reason for, was a win.
They were new feelings, but Lando suspected that they’d been laying dormant since your teenage years. They’d only ever surfaced when you talked to potential boyfriends, but he always managed to squash those feelings before they grew into something ugly and act like nothing was bothering him.
That’s probably why Lando’s hand was shaking a bit when it found a home on your thigh, slowly pushing up the silk of your dress and he couldn’t bring himself to look away from your face; caught in your stare. He could see how nervous you were, bottom lip caught between your teeth and chest moving with every quick breath you took.
Lando stopped momentarily because maybe you didn’t really want this. You looked almost scared, and that was enough for him to withdraw. What he didn’t expect was for your hand to find a place on the back of his head, messing up his perfectly styled curls and bringing him closer to your face.
It didn’t take much to get him where you wanted, and he found himself so close to your face that he could feel your breath against his lips. Lando was convinced that nothing was as intoxicating as that.
“This is mad.” You whispered, lip touching his as you spoke and Lando struggled to not groan out loud at that one brush.
“Definitely.” He nodded in agreement, watching your lips curl up into an enticing smile that calmed his nerves down. “Do you still want this?”
Your eyes flickered between his, like you were trying to gauge his reaction when you nodded.
“Do you?” You asked and Lando couldn’t dig deep enough to find the words, so he did the next best thing.
The small whimper you let out against his lips rattled something in Lando’s chest, pressing his mouth against yours in a kiss that had your toes curling and your hands grabbing desperately at his hair. The slight sting in his scalp made him open up under your lips, and he swore he must’ve died and gone to heaven when your tongue brushed his. It was like his skin was cracking open and you were touching his exposed nerves, feelings so on edge when you hadn’t even done anything but kiss him.
You were so into the kiss that you almost forgot where you were, thighs tensing a bit when your dress was pushed up and cool air hit your naked thighs. Lando pulled back enough to look at you, giving you an encouraging smile as his hand travelled up your inner thigh.
It was a struggle to keep your eyes open and on him when his fingers brushed over your clothed pussy, but it was worth it to see his mouth hang open when he felt the lace. You were warm against his skin, and he had half a mind to say fuck it and bury himself deep inside your warmth.
But he had to remind himself to slow down, take a breath and focus on you because you may have relaxed a bit; But Lando had known you for so long that he could read your body.
“This feels nice.” He commented, running his fingers over the material and you couldn’t help but laugh. “What colour are they?”
You knew it was his way of breaking the tension and hopefully relieve the anxiety blooming in your chest, and it surprisingly worked when you tilted your head up to give him a kiss that he was eager to respond to.
“Why don’t you find out?” You murmured and Lando’s eyebrow jumped, cheeky and excited as he placed his other arm on the other side of your body to straddle you.
He probably should’ve cared that his fancy dress pants were rubbing against the grass when he knee-walked down your body, but he was too preoccupied with staring at you. Your chest was heaving, and he could almost see the pebbles of your nipples against the satin material of your dress. He wondered if you wore a matching, lacy bra or if you’d opted to go without, eager to find out later.
Lando was a man on a mission, pushing your dress up to your abdomen and kneeling between your legs. He glanced down, heat flaring up in his body when he got a peek at the cherry red lace, hiding so much but so little.
He stroked a finger down between where he presumed your lips were, hearing you take a shuddering breath above at the sensation. You were looking at him, feeling turned on beyond belief and the feeling was so new that you didn’t know what to do with it.
The feeling only intensified when his finger located your clit, caressing the sensitive nub in small circles until your legs were shaking, thighs tensing.
Lando was like hypnotised, taking in every hitch in your breath and every jerk of your body until he felt like he’d burst if he didn’t get his mouth on you. He probably should’ve warned you beforehand, but he took a little pride in the surprised squeal you let out when he opened his mouth and slotted it over your pussy, sucking until he tasted your slick through the lace.
“Lando!” Your voice was breathy, scandalised and you put a hand over your eyes when you looked down and saw him staring at you.
He looked… depraved. And it did something funny to your stomach. You'd never seen him like that and you didn't really think you'd ever get to experience it.
You'd thought about it, even allowed yourself a night to fantasise about the way he'd look and what he'd say if you were ever in this position, but those were thoughts you didn't let yourself drift into too often. It was a dangerous thing to imagine having sex with your best friend, yet here you were - experiencing it. Outside, nonetheless.
"Oh, fuck." You stuttered out when he hooked his fingers into the crotch of your panties and pulled them to the side, the cool air hitting the very slick center.
The unexpected feeling had you squirming, bucking your hips up and huffing out a laugh when Lando glanced up at you, feeling a little embarrassed to be so needy.
"You're so sensitive." He pondered, sounding a little amazed before he stuck his tongue out in a crude fashion and licked up your pussy. "You're gorgeous, bug. Those guys are missing out on something great."
That got an eye roll from you, but it didn't stop the zip of heat from racing up your back at his words. You could feel him flattening his tongue to lick every part of you, like he couldn't get enough of your taste before he got your clit into his mouth and sucked.
He tried not to feel too smug when you moaned, head tilted back and facing the sky, like you were praying to whatever was up there. The stretch of your neck was gorgeous, so spotless that he had the sudden urge to sit up and mark the sensitive skin of it with his mouth and teeth. But he sat put, focusing on eating you out with an eagerness he'd never really felt before.
It didn't take you long to really become vocal, and it honestly surprised Lando because he'd always pegged you for a quiet one. Not that he complained; the sounds you were making had his pants feeling tight.
"It feels—" You trailed off into a stuttered moan that made Lando reach down and squeeze himself through his trousers, moaning into your pussy at the slight relief he felt. "Lando, fuck, I'm gonna..."
You didn't finish your sentence, too lost in the multiple sensations you'd never felt before but Lando could guess what you were trying to communicate. He kept at it, watching your face as it scrunched up and your mouth dropped open, groaning out your climax as it washed over you.
It felt better than you'd imagined, stomach clenching up and toes curling as you shut your eyes so tightly that you saw stars behind your eyelids. You weren't sure how long you were out of it, or how your hands had managed to find their way to your best friend's hair. Lando laved his tongue over your center, steering clear of your sensitive clit but he couldn't help but bump against it a few times just to hear your breath hitch.
The third time he did it, you pushed him away with an exhausted grumble, hearing him laugh as he stretched up to kiss below your navel. The pecks were so tender and sweet, a stark contrast to how he'd ate you out like a depraved man just minutes ago, and it filled your belly with so much warmth you didn't know what to do with it.
You made a confused sound in your throat when he hooked his fingers into the waistband of your panties and drew them down your legs, bunching them up in his hands.
"These are mine now." He said casually, cheek deepening into a dimple and you raised your eyebrows.
"No..." You dragged out the word, reaching out your hands to grab the flimsy material from his grip but he was quick to turn away, batting your hands away with small, teasing tuts. "Those are my fancy pair, you twit."
Lando shoved the underwear into the pocket of his trousers, ignoring your protests and silencing them rather quickly by leaning over to kiss you. And shut you up it did, because that was the last thing you expected but it wasn't necessarily unwelcomed.
He opened up his mouth under yours, kissing you deeply and allowing you to taste yourself and something about that made your legs tighten up around his body where they'd been previously splayed out.
"I'll buy you more underwear." He promised after pulling away slightly, giving you a smirk that made your head spin. "Only if I'm the only one allowed to see them from now on."
You huffed out a laugh, pushing his face away with your hand. He rolled over and laid down beside you, and you sat up with the help of your shaky arms.
"You're a walking cliché." You said, shaking your head slightly. "But I won't say no to free stuff.”
He reached a hand out to pluck a leaf off your hair, flicking it away before turning his attention to you.
You suddenly became aware of what you’d done, nerves humming just under your skin and your conflicting emotions must’ve shown on your face because Lando scooted closer to you and grabbed your hand.
“We’re okay?” You asked quietly, staring down at your intertwined hands and how his thumb brushed across the back of your hand. The way he always did when your anxiety was acting up.
“Of course we are.” He assured you, leaning forward to press a chaste kiss to your naked shoulder.
You knew that you’d have to have a longer talk about what this meant for the both of you in the future. But you pushed it to the back of your mind for tonight, snuggling up to your best friend’s side and laying your head on his chest.
You did believe him though. No matter what, the both of you would be okay.

coming back to you
pairings: ex!rafe x ex!reader
warnings: angst, fluff, jealousy
summary: rafe and y/n broke up and after 6 months, reader sees him at a party—except rafe isn’t alone.
words: 2.9k
The sunset over the Outer Banks was a spectacular sight—an explosion of orange and pink hues blending into the purple twilight. But tonight, as you watched the waves crash against the shore, the colors seemed muted, like they were missing something. Much like your life over the past six months.
Six months. It felt like both an eternity and a fleeting moment since Rafe had broken up with you. Even now, the memory of that day still stung, etched into your heart like a scar that refused to heal.
"I just need to work on myself, Y/n," he had said, his voice thick with emotion. "My temper, my… everything. You deserve better than what I can give you right now."
You had stood there, tears blurring your vision as you tried to understand what was happening. Rafe was your world, the one constant in the chaos of your life, and suddenly, he was telling you that you needed to be apart. That you, his Y/n, deserved better than him. It was a noble reason, and you knew he meant well, but it did nothing to soothe the heartbreak that followed.
Rafe was your first love, the person who made you feel alive and safe in a world that often felt too overwhelming. You had been drawn to him, not just for his good looks or his undeniable charm, but for the way he seemed to understand you in a way no one else did. He could be reckless, yes, and his temper was legendary, but beneath it all, you had seen the softer side of him, the side that cared, that loved fiercely and deeply.
You hadn’t expected to be torn away from that side of him. But he had been right, in some ways. Rafe had demons to fight—his addiction, his anger, his own insecurities. And he needed space to do that. You understood that, but it didn’t make the pain of losing him any less real.
For months, you’d been trying to move on, to rebuild your life without him. It was hard. Every corner of the Outer Banks held memories of him. From the beach where you first kissed to the docks where he’d whispered how much he loved you as the sun set. It all haunted you, a constant reminder of what you’d lost.
But tonight was different. Tonight, you were determined to take a step forward, to finally put some distance between you and the past. That’s why you agreed to go to the party with Sarah, despite your initial hesitation.
“You need this, Y/n,” Sarah had insisted earlier that day, her tone firm but gentle. “It’s been too long since you’ve done something fun. And I promise, Rafe won’t be there. He’s… been keeping to himself lately.”
You knew Sarah meant well. As Rafe’s sister, she was caught in a tricky position—being loyal to her brother while also being your best friend. But she had always been there for you, through the highs and the lows, and you trusted her.
And so, you found yourself at the Cameron family’s beach house, the music pounding in your ears and the smell of the ocean mixed with the scent of alcohol filling the air. The party was in full swing, with people dancing, laughing, and losing themselves in the carefree atmosphere.
But as much as you tried to blend in, to lose yourself in the moment, you couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Maybe it was the fact that you were at a place so closely tied to Rafe, or maybe it was the way your heart clenched every time you thought about him. Either way, you felt a knot of anxiety tightening in your chest.
“Hey, are you okay?” Sarah’s voice cut through your thoughts, and you turned to find her watching you with concern. She was holding two drinks, one of which she handed to you. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
You forced a smile, not wanting to worry her. “I’m fine. Just a little overwhelmed, I guess.”
She nodded, her expression softening. “I get it. But try to have some fun, okay? You deserve it.”
Taking a sip of the drink, you nodded again, though you weren’t entirely sure you believed your own assurances. You scanned the crowd, trying to distract yourself by observing the people around you. Most were familiar faces, locals you’d grown up with, but one person caught your eye. A girl you didn’t recognize, with short, brown hair and a confident smile.
And then you saw him. Rafe.
He was standing by the pool, laughing at something the girl had said, his hand resting casually on her waist. Your heart stopped, and for a moment, you couldn’t breathe. It wasn’t just seeing him again that hit you like a punch to the gut—it was how different he looked. His once shaggy hair was now buzzed short, and he had put on muscle, his t-shirt clinging to his toned arms and chest. He looked good, better than you’d seen him in a long time.
He looked like he was doing well. Like he was happy.
You wanted to be happy for him, you really did. But all you could feel was the sharp sting of jealousy and hurt. He had moved on. And you were still here, stuck in the same place, unable to let go of the past.
“Who’s that?” you found yourself asking, your voice barely above a whisper.
Sarah followed your gaze and winced slightly when she saw what—or rather, who—you were looking at. “That’s Sofia,” she said carefully. “She’s new around here. I think she’s just visiting for the summer.”
“Oh.” You swallowed hard, trying to process the information. Rafe was with someone else. Of course he was. You had no right to feel this way, but you couldn’t help it.
“He seems… different,” you murmured, not sure if you were talking to Sarah or just voicing your thoughts out loud.
Sarah sighed, her expression troubled. “He’s been trying, Y/n. He really has. But it’s been hard for him, too, you know? Breaking up with you—it wasn’t easy for him.”
“I know,” you whispered, your eyes still fixed on Rafe. “I just… I didn’t expect this. I thought that if he got better, maybe…”
“Maybe he’d come back to you?” Sarah finished gently.
You nodded, feeling the tears prick at the corners of your eyes. You blinked them away, not wanting to cry here, not now.
“Y/n, I think—” Sarah started, but before she could finish, someone bumped into you from behind, causing you to spill your drink. You turned, muttering a quick apology, but when you looked back towards the pool, Rafe and Sofia were gone.
The rest of the party passed in a blur. You tried to have fun, to talk and laugh with Sarah and the others, but your heart wasn’t in it. All you could think about was Rafe. You caught glimpses of him throughout the night, but he was always with Sofia, and it hurt too much to keep watching.
Finally, you couldn’t take it anymore. You needed air. You needed to get away.
“I’m gonna go for a walk,” you told Sarah, who looked at you with concern but didn’t try to stop you.
“Do you want me to come with you?” she offered, but you shook your head.
“No, it’s okay. I just need a minute.”
She nodded, squeezing your hand before letting you go. You made your way down to the beach, the cool night air a welcome contrast to the heat of the party. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was soothing, and you found a spot on the sand, sitting down and hugging your knees to your chest.
You let the tears fall then, the ones you’d been holding back all night. It wasn’t fair. You had waited, hoping that Rafe would come back to you when he was ready. You had believed in him, in his ability to change. And now, seeing him with someone else, it felt like all your hope had been shattered.
The worst part was, you couldn’t even be angry at him. You knew why he had broken up with you, and you knew it was the right thing for him to do. But that didn’t make it any less painful.
You stayed there for a while, letting the tears flow until there were no more left. When you finally looked up, the party was still in full swing, but you didn’t feel like going back. You just wanted to go home, to curl up in bed and pretend that tonight had never happened.
But as you stood up to leave, you saw a figure walking towards you along the shoreline. Your heart skipped a beat when you realized who it was.
Rafe.
He stopped a few feet away from you, his hands shoved into his pockets as he looked at you with those piercing blue eyes that had always made you weak in the knees.
“Y/n,” he said softly, his voice carrying over the sound of the waves.
You swallowed hard, trying to compose yourself. “Rafe. What are you doing here?”
“I saw you leave,” he said, his gaze never leaving yours. “I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
You didn’t know how to respond to that. Part of you wanted to scream at him, to tell him how much he had hurt you, but another part of you just wanted to fall into his arms and forget everything else.
“I’m fine,” you said instead, though your voice wavered. “You should go back to the party. Sofia’s probably wondering where you are.”
“Sofia’s not important,” he said quickly, and the intensity in his voice made you look up at him in surprise. “She’s just someone I’ve been hanging out with, nothing more,” Rafe continued, his voice edged with urgency. “I’m not with her like that, Y/n. I’m not with anyone. I couldn’t be.”
Your heart pounded in your chest as his words sunk in, but you couldn’t let yourself believe them just yet. “Rafe, it’s been six months,” you said, your voice cracking. “You’ve had time to move on. And that’s okay. I don’t expect you to—”
“I haven’t moved on,” he interrupted, taking a step closer to you. “I haven’t moved on from you. God, Y/n, I’ve tried. I’ve tried to get over you, to pretend that I’m okay without you, but I’m not. I’m really not.”
You stared at him, unable to speak. His words were like a lifeline, something you had desperately needed to hear, but it only made things more confusing.
“Then why did you leave?” you finally whispered, the question that had haunted you for months slipping out. “Why did you break up with me if you still… if you still care?”
Rafe looked down, his jaw clenched tightly, as if he were fighting some internal battle. “I was scared,” he admitted after a long moment. “Scared that I was going to drag you down with me. I was a mess, baby. My temper, my addiction… I didn’t want you to have to deal with that. You deserved better. I needed to get better, for both our sakes.”
Your heart ached at the vulnerability in his voice, but there was still a part of you that couldn’t let go of the pain he had caused. “And now?” you asked, your voice trembling. “Are you better now, Rafe?”
He looked up at you then, and the raw emotion in his eyes nearly broke you. “I’m trying,” he said softly. “I’ve been going to therapy, working out, trying to stay clean. I’m not perfect, and I’ve still got a long way to go, but I’m trying. And the whole time… all I could think about was you.”
The words hung in the air between you, thick with unspoken feelings. You wanted to believe him, wanted to run into his arms and let him hold you like he used to. But you were afraid—afraid of getting hurt again, afraid that he might leave you once more.
“I don’t know if I can do this again,” you whispered, your eyes filling with tears. “Rafe, you broke my heart. I thought you didn’t want me anymore, that I wasn’t enough.”
Rafe’s expression crumpled with guilt and regret, and he closed the distance between you, reaching out to gently cup your face in his hands. His touch was warm, familiar, and it sent a shiver down your spine.
“Y/n, you are everything to me,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “I never stopped wanting you. I didn’t want to hurt you anymore. But I see now that I did anyway, and I hate myself for it. I’m so sorry, baby. I’m so fucking sorry.”
The sincerity in his voice, the way he looked at you like you were the only person in the world that mattered. It broke down the walls you had built around your heart. The tears you had been holding back finally spilled over, and you let out a shaky breath.
“Rafe…” you began, but the words caught in your throat. You didn’t know what to say. All the pain, the longing, the love you still felt for him—it was all too much.
Before you could stop yourself, you closed the remaining distance between you and wrapped your arms around him, burying your face in his chest. For a moment, Rafe seemed stunned, but then his arms were around you, holding you tightly against him as if he were afraid you might disappear.
He smelled like salt and the faint scent of his cologne, the combination so achingly familiar that it made your heart ache. You felt his chin rest gently on top of your head, his breath warm against your hair as he held you close.
“I missed you so much,” you whispered, your voice muffled against his chest. “I didn’t want to, but I did. I missed you every single day.”
“I missed you too,” he murmured, his voice thick with emotion. “More than you’ll ever know.”
For a while, neither of you moved, content to just hold each other, to feel the connection that had never really been broken despite everything that had happened. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was the only thing that broke the silence, a calming rhythm that matched the beat of your hearts.
But eventually, reality crept back in, and you pulled away slightly, looking up at Rafe. His face was so close to yours, his blue eyes searching your own with an intensity that made your breath catch in your throat.
“Rafe,” you began, your voice unsteady, “I don’t know if we can just… go back to how things were. So much has happened.”
“I know,” he said quietly, his hands still resting on your waist. “I know we can’t just pick up where we left off. But I’m willing to do whatever it takes to earn your trust again, Y/n. I want to be with you. I’ve never stopped wanting that.”
You searched his eyes, looking for any sign that he might be saying this out of guilt or obligation, but all you saw was the truth. He meant it. He still loved you, despite everything.
“I still love you too,” you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper. “I never stopped.”
Rafe’s eyes softened, and for a moment, you saw the boy you had fallen in love with all this time ago—the boy who had made you laugh, who had held you when you cried, who had loved you with everything he had.
“I’m so sorry I hurt you,” he whispered, his forehead resting against yours. “I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you if you’ll let me.”
You closed your eyes, feeling the warmth of his breath on your skin, the steady beat of his heart beneath your fingertips. And in that moment, you knew that despite everything, you still wanted him. You still wanted to be with him, to try again.
But there was still a part of you that was scared, that didn’t want to go through the pain again.
“I’m scared, Rafe,” you admitted, your voice shaking. “I’m scared that things will go back to how they were.”
He pulled back slightly to look at you, his expression serious. “I won’t hurt you again, Y/n,” he promised, his voice firm. “I’ve been working so hard to change, to be the person you deserve. I won’t let you down this time. I swear.”
You wanted to believe him. You wanted to trust him, to let yourself be vulnerable with him again. But trust was something that had to be earned, and you knew it wouldn’t be easy.
“I need time,” you said softly, your hands gripping the fabric of his shirt. “I need time to trust you again.”
Rafe nodded, his expression understanding. “I’ll give you all the time you need,” he said. “I’m not going anywhere.”
You let out a shaky breath, relief flooding through you. “Okay,” you whispered. “Okay.”
And for the first time in six months, you felt a glimmer of hope. You didn’t know what the future held, but you were willing to take a chance on Rafe, on the love that still burned between you. It wouldn’t be easy, but nothing worth having ever was.
As you stood there on the beach, wrapped in Rafe’s arms, you knew that this was a new beginning. A chance to rebuild what had been broken, to find your way back to each other. And this time, you would do it together.

Just...Pissed off Bestfriend!Ghost who can't get outta the friendzone...
TW: no direct smut ig, but its teasing and build up to smut. Ghost pinning over an oblivious reader.
This might get a second part if it does well, but who knows.
Imagine Ghost who prides himself in being subtle, unfazed, and mysterious. Except, he isn't around you. He'd been one of your closest friends since you both practically grew up together. Even when he joined to military, you made it a point to send letters and stay in touch. Ugh, that made it so much harder to not grow attached.
Ghost, or Simon, as you know him, would never out right tell you he was interested. Instead, he chose to drop hints. Maybe warding off any guy who looked at you too long wasn't the best hint, but it was crucial. Simon made an effort to keep his hands on you whenever he could. Whether that was a hug; a hand on your hips when he brushed passed you; or full blown cuddles on the couch when you guys watched movies.
Oh, he loved the cuddles. He had your whole body pressed against him as he occupied most of your attention. You were always so soft and warm. He always had to take a bathroom break half way through to relieve himself of a harder problem.
If you noticed how Simon began to change, you never mentioned it. This was now approaching your sixth month of this friends with cuddles non-sense. It wasn't like he wasn't your type! On a boring mission break, he might or might not have gone through your search history to find some enlightening Onlyfans subscriptions. He was both unimpressed and flattered when he saw how his body matched many of your most visited sites. Why pay to see other men's bodies when you could run your dainty hands over his? Simon Riley didn't get it.
Simon also couldn't fathom how you still hadn't taken the hint. He'd agreed to go clubbing with you as you chose to parade around in the sluttiest two piece he'd ever seen. Fuck. Why was your skirt so short anyway? Your top was basically lingerie with the mesh pieces and thin straps. Were you trying to grab his attention on purpose? Cause it...was kind of working... a little too well for his liking.
He hated how his eyes ghosted between your thighs before pulling away to look at the cock block who had you exhale an airy laugh. Your sounds were always angelic. He'd be lying to himself if he hadn't fantasized about the more sinister sounds he could draw out of you when you'd finally gotten the hint. Nevertheless, hearing it directed to someone else made his blood boil. Perhaps the other predicament was the fact that he knew that his eyes weren't the only ones lingering on you.
"Hey, darling, I think it's time we head out." Simon wasted no time, in two strides he was at your side with his arms wrapped protectively around you. He gazed down at the moron who looked a bit paler before the guy made an effort to wrap up your conversation. The idiot quickly scurried off into the tight crowd.
"No, I wanna dance more~" Your voice drew Simon's attention. You were being such a brat by subtly grinding your hips against him. Sure, you were wasted, but you had to know how riled up he was. You should be able to feel his hard on poking your back by now. He gripped your hips, forcing them to still.
"Baby, you're drunk, and I'm the one who's responsible for getting you home," he growled in your ear. There was a thick rasp in his voice as he tried to repress the urge to grind back. This wasn't fair to him at all. How could you expect a man to resist you? Simon had plenty of trouble doing that already, but this gave blue balls a whole new meaning.

Gaz and Soap use Nikolai as attitude adjustment.
cw: canon typical violence, mild sexual content towards the end.
If Gaz and Soap really want to humble a new trooper that's got a bit arrogant, they won't escalate them to Ghost or Price, because any fresh recruit would expect to be obliterated by fully trained operators at some point during their training; it would be viewed as a privilege to be crushed by the one and only Bravo Six, and Ghost is legendary.
Instead, they put them in a room with Nikolai.
It was Gaz's idea originally. Nik isn't SAS, he's precisely the type of unhinged, formidable opponent these little fucks are going to have to face in the field. In fact, he was one life decision away from being one of their actual enemies. Every time Soap and Gaz have to go toe to toe with the Russians they're sure to thank whatever higher power that they haven't got Nikolai running rings around them rather than waiting to bail them out.
They have one particular scrote who has been pissing them off all week. He thinks he's Billy Big Bollocks and, while he follows the letter of an order, he always likes to think he knows best and... interpret. The sergeants told him to focus on endurance and cardio in his workouts and he continued to build strength, he navigated a river crossing wrong and ended up stranding his crew. Lots of little things that mean if he doesn't shape up then he's gonna fail.
Gaz and Soap take him, and the friends that are beginning to get ideas, to Nik's hanger where he's working.
"Nik, fall in," Gaz calls at the Black Hawk.
Nik drops from the top of the heli where he was doing some maintenance on the main rotary engine, and Soap has to work hard to keep his face serious, because fuck does Nik play his part well.
He's shirtless, sweating from the exertion of turning the big wrench in his hand, and there's grease spattered on his stomach, up his arms. That gold chain really tops off the look, nestled in the fur on his chest, and he looks every bit the Russian mobster. Gaz can see why the captain thirsts so much.
(Not that there's anything wrong with that, sir. You hit that, uh... man, umm..)
"Sergeants," Nik greets them respectfully, and then those dark eyes turn to the trooper standing at their side. To his credit, the kid squares his shoulders and meets Nik's eyes, which is a pretty big ask given Nik's reputation on base. "Between one and ten?" Nik asks, still the very picture of affable civility.
"Four," Soap says, pulling a baton and a coil of rope from his belt. He throws them both to the floor in front of the trooper they've brought for a lesson in respect and listening skills. "Subdue and apprehend."
"What?" The trooper asks, stunned.
"Subdue and apprehend the target," Soap repeats, and then juts his chin after Nikolai. "'E's yer target."
Nik places his wrench down and uses the rag on his workbench to wipe his hands. He is completely unarmed, dressed only in his combat trousers, belted low on his hips, and boots. He glances at the baton and rope on the floor, and then to his intended adversary. "When you are ready, comrade."
The trooper picks up his weapon, glances at his sergeants, the rest of his troop and then flicks the baton out. Nik stands there placidly, hands down by his sides as he flicks his fingers in a little come on gesture. The trooper runs in.
The slap Nikolai lands across the lad's face echoes around the hanger. Even Gaz and Soap grimace, while the other two troopers flinch, their shoulders rising around their ears. The trooper recovers after being forced into the work bench with the force, and leans in for a swing to the gut, which Nik swerves, shoving the incoming shoulder down.
With each failed or blocked attack, Nik retaliates with precision, administering openhanded slaps to the jaw, shoving away or ducking poorly timed swings, before landing a gut punch and then swiping the trooper's boots out from under him. The lad recovers with a decent enough roll and dives in for another, but Nik grabs his shirt and slams him into the side of the Black Hawk. He makes it look easy.
The trooper groans and staggers. Nik growls, irritated. "Pochemi ty tebya ne perestat vyyobyvat’sya, eh?"
"I wouldnae take tha' rookie, he called yer ma a bitch," Soap calls over.
Gaz huffs. "No he didn't."
Soap shrugs then forms his mouth into a grimacing 'ooh' when Nik lands a knee to the bollocks, proceeding to dissect their trainee's defences with brutal efficiency now that he had run out of patience. He grabs the wrist holding the baton, twists and throws his opponent like he's nought but a cheap stuffed toy from the local carnival.
When the lad scrambles to his feet, now without defence, Nik is already waiting with a right hook that sends him down to his knee and three swift kicks to the ribs that takes him the rest of the way to the floor.
Nik rests a boot on the trooper's face, and reaches for the spanner on his workbench. Gaz clears his throat, flashing four fingers with a single shake of the head to remind Nik of the agreed scale, and Nik nods, lifting his hands apologetically before clasping them before his hips. He tuts down at his felled opponent. "Ah, it appears you have been killed, comrade. A shame."
Soap swaggers over, his hands tucked inside his carrier vest, and crouches down by his trainee's head. "An' that was him at a four. Can ye imagine wha' 'e woulda done to ye at ten, eh, hen?" Soaps answer is a groan and a gurgle.
"Nikolai!"
Soap stands abruptly, Gaz straightens and the two intact troopers smack their boots together, backs rigid. Nik looks up more leisurely, his placid, Labrador eyes, now empty of malice, settle on Captain Price, who stands in the shadows of the hanger door, his arms folded. "That's quite enough. I think Reynolds has learned his lesson. Let 'im up."
Nik steps back and tucks his hands behind his back. The way he stands at ease reminds Gaz and Soap that their favourite Russian arms dealer used to wear a uniform instead of a leather jacket, and they're again thankful he bats for their team. Ha, in more ways than one, as it goes.
Reynolds climbs to his feet slowly and rejoins his mates as Gaz dismisses them.
"Get them to mess. It's dinnertime," Price says to his two sergeants, and then looks at Nik. "My office."
Someone unfamiliar with the captain might have missed the way he looked Nik up and down before he turned his back, from scruffy boots to sweating, grease-slick chest, his blue eyes aflame like pilot lights in a bloody gas boiler, but Gaz didn't. He smirks as Nik swaggers past, his jacket slung over his bare shoulder. "You dog," Gaz mutters.
Nik winks at him before he disappears with the - his - captain.
"Really?" Price asks, with a kind of tired exasperation, as they step across the threshold into the pokey little cubby hole he occupies on base.
"I was teaching," Nik says, shoulders rolling in a shrug.
"Yer take far too much joy in slappin' 'round my soldiers, Nik." Price leans against his desk, arms folded, his eyes raking over Nik's body with a white hot desire roiling in his gut.
"You must enjoy your work to perform it to a high standard." Nik strolls up into Price's personal space like he belongs there, nudging the captain's boots apart to make room, gaze dropping to his crotch. "And, perhaps, you enjoy my work too?"
Price chuckles low in his throat. "Yer sick bastard," he growls, reaching to wind his hand through that golden chain and yank Nik down.
The kiss is fierce, tongue licking possessively into Nik's mouth as Nik slots between his legs. Nik's filthy hands find Price's waist and then slide down to his arse for a greedy squeeze, moving to Price's thighs when his knees hook up and over Nik's hips.
"Hng, bloody 'ell, get those fuckin' kecks down and fuck me," Price snarls, still keeping Nik in place by his chain even as he yanks open his belt and fly.
Nik had wanted to finish his repairs, but railing Price over his desk when he looks about ready to devour him feels like a far better use of his time.

Time to be delulu yet completely serious on my bnha 423 opinions.
Good points: The resolution between AFO and Yoichi was satisfactory, love as a reason for evil and evil deeds, the rooftop trio having one final moment full of emotion, the moment of Kurogiri thinking about Tomura and the LOV, Deku having a quirk of his own born out of determination and hard work, Deku as the protagonist of bnha in general, Tomura's last actions and words.
Bad points: Rushed arc conclusions, moments that felt kinda repetitive or lacked the punch given that we've seen/lived them before, not the best compositions we've seen from Horikoshi on the panels, Tomura's arc being rushed to a martyr ending— for impact???? ( or it ending on another cliffhanger that is gonna turn to be different from what we expected ).
I'll go in depth, so please check under the cut.
GOOD POINTS:
Yoichi and AFO:
The last conversation among these brothers was everything I was expecting. The love was there and it transformed them. It made AFO a monster and Yoichi a ghost.
For me, this time the AFO ending needed to be quick because we've already said goodbye to him too many times. This was supposed to be about AFO's refusal to give up on his brother and the unresolved relationship of those two.
I really liked how Yoichi reminded AFO that he needs to face the consequences of his actions and that he's love won't be able to save them.
Villain love:
Love as a reason for pain and destruction is perhaps one of my favorite tropes. So many stories approach love as this purely morally good feeling, when in the end it is just like any other feeling, you know?
People go to war for love all the time. They kill for love. Die for love. Do unforgivable things for love. Human existence is sooooo complex, why would love be the exception?
Horikoshi has been REALLY careful with the AFO backstory and his motivations. He didn't want an antagonist that felt empty. He made AFO human without redeeming him, okay? Because our ability to sympathize with some of AFO's traits doesn't make him less evil. To put it simply, it means that evil things are also human at heart.
Even those acts that you can't forgive or forget are motivated by something.
Kurogiri and the rooftop trio:
We knew from the beginning they were not the main characters of this manga.
We've gotten their story through glimpses and moments. Their time together had always been somehow rushed. Too many things to say, not enough time and they are on opposite sides of the war after all.
We knew that Kurogiri would go back because we knew he would protect Tomura during the final fight. We knew that he'd help the heroes defeat AFO. We knew he'd have to make his choice and say his goodbyes to his old friends.
Kurogiri, Tomura and the LOV
"He's friends are waiting" along with the image of Spinner asking Kurogiri to bring Tomura back to them was the highlight of this chapter for me. (You all expected it, right?)
Something about the way it reads like a father who wants his son to live because he is being waited for. He has friends who love him and would do anything to protect him, see him safe and sound. Something about the symbolism of Spinner putting Father (aka Kotaro's hand) on Kurogiri's face as he asked for it.
This chapter acknowledged that Kurogiri and Shirakumo share the same character core. They are always the protectors, the ones who would sacrifice themselves to see their charge survive. Similar to how Mic was waiting for Shouta so Shirakumo made sure that Shouta would survive, Kurogiri wants to do the same for Spinner and Tomura.
This alone would require an entire post to elaborate.
Deku's quirk:
The debate between endgame quirkless Deku or endgame OFA user Deku is settle.
I really liked that Deku got a quirk on his own that was born out of his own determination to be a hero. It's a nice representation of all he is as a character and what he stands for. Similarly, I enjoyed a lot the fact that it was short-lived. I'm the type who likes it better when things require a sacrifice or when miracles have their own conditions.
Deku doesn't feel overpowered to me. You get that sense that he really deserves everything he has and that it hasn't been a nonsense gift from the narrative. There's also the human condition, the limitations that keep him grounded.
Bnha and Deku:
Deku defeating AFO 'cause villains and heroes help him, his friends being there for him and being there to cheer for him as he fights, his sensei being there despite the fact that Aizawa at first thought Deku wouldn't make it— all the details that make bnha what it is.
They were good.
The UA kids really keep the story consistent when it is about them. They don't give up on anyone, they fight for each other, they stay to witness things for themselves. I love them <3
Tomura's last actions and words:
Careful here. Listen to what I'm saying.
If the narrative had pointed out to this ending, this would have been a good way to execute it.
Tomura coming back along with the vestiges to pack one final punch to defeat AFO— I know many fans that would be moved to tears and would be super excited to see it. Tomura was on point in this chapter, dialoguing with Deku without the hatred in his heart, his face being clearer and almost tender.
He felt defeated, like he had accepted his death already. There's also the connection to Kurogiri and Nana (who defended him) and his words to Spinner, that are meant as a general message to depict how much Tomura values the LOV.
Even the fact that AFO kept him around 'cause a part of him loved / cared about Tomura feels fitting, but I'm not sure if I correctly read the leaks in that part...
Anyway, we got the old trope of the antagonist who used his last moments to help defeat the real villain. It serves as his redemption and the expectation is for the public to feel sorry bad for him.
BAD POINTS
Rushed conclusions:
In my opinion, this chapter was too fast paced and therefore was not as emotional as it should have been.
It doesn't give the feeling that it's fast because the battle is intense. It gives the feeling of too much information packed on one chapter, so nothing really shines on its own. It's way too informative, not enough action narration.
Like I said before, the fatal mistake of a story is to be boring. Art has to provoke you, it has to engage with you, question you, awake things in you. This chapter tho, many things happened at the same time and it grew a bit murky.
Repetitive moments
Again, personal opinion here.
I think certain bnha movies were a mistake. Not because they were bad or boring or whatever, but because Horikoshi wrote parts of bnha real ending into them to the point you'd say "we've already seen that" while reading bnha 423.
Deku and Bakugo teaming up to defeat AFO was so expected. Not as in "the narrative is making sense", but as in "we saw it on heroes rising".
I feel the same with the students all appearing to help Deku fight AFO. That's a typical shonen structure where the friends making space for the protagonist to reach the main villain. It was already happening, so why bring AFO back?? I think the story is over-explaining here, making everything way too obvious. We could have had AFO's resolution with Yoichi before and the students moment after. In truth, it feels like Horikoshi closed some character arcs before he should and left plot holes without explanation, so he needed to reopen to accommodate.
Panel composition:
I admire Horikoshi when it comes to panel composition. He has some amazing panels that make the story really flow, but bnha 423 isn't there.
There are too many elements clustered and empty spaces that don't feel with purpose (in manga, even the blanks must have a purpose). This chapter should have been at least two, so you wouldn't have to rush Bakugo appearing, Yoichi and AFO resolution, Kurogiri saying his goodbye to the rooftop trio and facing AFO for Tomura's sake, Deku remembering where he started and where he is, Tomura last words and the Tomura and Deku resolution...
Those are too many important plot points to illustrate in a hurry.
Also?? The panel of Tomura and Deku punching AFO is so unserious. Totally wrong place to be funny sjbdjdnd why does it even feel like the vestiges are punching air???
" Tomura's ending " :
I'm not the first to say it feels anticlimactic and as if it isn't the ending at all.
The major problem is that through the manga, Horikoshi has focused a lot on Tomura as a character, carefully developing him, giving him tropes that are often reserved for the hero or the main character, making sure we empathize with him, we understand him, hyping up Deku's journey to rescue him.
We got an entire arc from the LOV perspective. This is not the type of one sentence ending you give to an antagonist you spent so much ink and sweat on. The nonchalant way of Tomura accepting his death? The little reaction from Deku? What was the purpose of the manga building up the LOV friendship to the moment where Kurogiri told AFO that Tomura's friends were waiting for him, if you'd make him just disappear on thin air?
This reads absolutely like a bunny within a hat.
That's being optimistic.
If we want to be cynical, maybe this is all there is. I don't find it readable to end the story with Tomura dying. All that effort to save him and it ends in "oh well, he decayed along with AFO"?!
If you think about it, Toga status is unknown because we don't even know where she went or if she's still alive, Touya status is also unknown although we know he wanted to live and that the ice prevented him from further damage, we haven't seen Spinner, we don't know if Kurogiri vanished with that last attack on AFO and now we saw Tomura decaying into the wind.
Yo kill half the surviving LOV would be a bold move that wouldn't follow the narrative. The reward for the hero students should be being able to save their counterpart, so the world can regard them as the greatest heroes 'cause they save the unsalable and blah blah blah.
There's also the fact Tomura hasn't been saved yet. Tenko? Nana and Deku saved him from Kotaro. The crying kid? Saved from AFO by Deku and the vestiges and the others. Tomura? Nop, he's dying/dead. The one person Spinner really wanted to save was Tomura. He didn't know about the crying kid or Tenko. He wanted to save his friend, the "irredeemable" villain, the young man he played videogames with and fought alongside and vowed to follow.
If this is the end, it's incomplete.
So we might hope it is not the end.

My best friends brother series; Part 4 - Ex’s & O’s
Series masterlist
Outer banks masterlist
Pairing(s): Rafe Cameron x fem! Kook reader.
Word count: 2.7k
Summary: after making things right with Sarah, a ghost from your past comes back to haunt you.
Warnings: swearing, mentions of sex, alcohol use, mentions of violence, SMUT, oral (f receiving), fingering, praise kink.
Authors note: for any Drew fans who haven’t seen hellraiser yet - do it. The gif explains it all, Thank me later.
A couple days had past since everything kicked off at Wards charity event, and you were a mess. Days seemed to be going slower, and you had nothing to occupy yourself except your depressing thoughts.
The day after the event, you woke up to a text from Rafe asking to see you, but you ignored him. The only Cameron you wanted to hear from right now was Sarah. You had been texting her like crazy, eager to make things right with your best friend.
Currently, you sat in your garden, making the most of the beaming summer heat that graced obx every year. You went to change the song on your playlist when you see a text from Sarah, asking you to come over to talk things out.
You want to jump for joy when you see her message, but you don’t. Instead, your insides twist at the thought of running into Rafe at the house.
You didn’t know what to think about the situation between you and him. You kept thinking about what he might of said if Sarah didn’t catch you both together. Part of you wanted nothing more than to hear him confess his feelings to you, if he even had any. But your naive nature was always what got you in these situations, and he had the biggest fuck-boy reputation out of anyone else in Kildare.
You text Sarah you’ll be there in 20, and head upstairs to get ready before driving to the Cameron house.
Your heart is beating out of your chest as you approach the front door, before giving it a half-hearted knock.
After about 30 seconds, the door swings open, and you turn your head in an apprehensive manner. But it’s not who you expected.
Nervousness flutters in your chest at the man who stands before you, but you don’t show it. Your features harden as you peer up at Rafe, your cold exterior giving nothing away.
Rafe’s eyes soften as he gazes down at you, licking his cherry red lips with anticipation. He has felt nothing but guilty for the past few days, which is an unfamiliar feeling for him. This isn’t the first time he has had a fling with one of Sarah’s friends, as the girl is very popular. But this is the first time he has felt bad about it.
Your emotionless features cause his heart to beat faster, and he almost didn’t want to speak.
“Hey-“
“I’m here for Sarah. Is she in?” You say bluntly.
Your not sure why you said that, you knew she was here. But you could never think straight around Rafe.
You observe the way that hurt washes over his face as you finish your sentence, his eyes finding solace in staring at his feet. You’ve never seen him so doleful, and a twang of guilt rushed through you.
“Yeah, upstairs” he says, moving to the side to let you through the door.
His familiar scent of vanilla and sandalwood engulfs you as your walk past him, and it takes everything in you not to look into his eyes. You couldn’t even trust yourself to do that, scared you’ll fall straight into his trap again. You couldn’t let that happen.
You ignore your urges and walk up the stairs to Sarah’s room, before knocking on the door and entering when you hear her say “come in”.
“Hey” you say, fidgeting with your fingers before joining her sitting on her bed.
“Hey” she says, pursing her lips together. After about 10 seconds of silence, you decide to speak.
“Sarah I’m so sorry for everything. I should of told you about Rafe, but to be honest there’s not really much to tell. We slept together, once. And after…well he treated me like he treats every other girl in Kildare. And that’s why we were arguing at your dads party”
Sarah doesn’t respond, the cogs in her mind turning as she takes in the information she’s just been told.
“It was a mistake, and I regret it. I’m sorry for being an idiot-“
“Oh my god, relax, please. You look like your about to have an aneurysm” she says, a small smile creeping up on her face.
“I think I might be” you chuckle. And just like that, the nerves in you subsided as you giggled with your best friend.
“Look, what you did was shitty…and the thought of you with my brother is just gross” she starts, cringing as she finishes her sentence.
“But I’m sorry I got so mad. You can do what you want, just be careful okay?” She says, a sincere look spread across her sun kissed features.
“I will, I love you” you say, a cheesy grin on your face.
“I love you too. And I’m going to kill Rafe for thinking he can treat you like that”
Sarah notices the tinge of pain in your expression at the mention of how Rafe treated you, but she doesn’t say anything. Instead, she pulls you in for a hug, and you hug her back immediately.
A few hours later, you and Sarah get invited round to the chateau for a couple drinks with John B and JJ, and you all end up at some kook party. Thankfully, it seemed Sarah didn’t mention your shared escapade with her brother to your other friends. You knew how the pogues felt about Rafe, and you knew they wouldn’t be happy.
Seeing as John B and Sarah were in their own little bubble whenever they were together, you spent most of your time tonight drinking with JJ. You two had been close for a while now, and you both had your best friends to thank for it.
“Oh my god. Jake’s here” you say, eyes widening as you grab JJ’s arm to get his attention.
Jake, your recent ex of one year, walked through the door and past the couch that you and JJ are sat on, with a girl clung onto his arm. You recognised the girl as she was the one he cheated on you with. The room was packed, so he didn’t notice you, which you were thankful for.
Looking at him now and seeing him for who he is, you couldn’t believe you wasted a year of your life with him. You internally cringed at the thought.
“Want me to rough him up?” He says, a playful look on his face as his eyes wander to your ex. Although it sounded like he was only joking, you knew he would do it for you if you asked. JJ has always been loyal to the people he loves.
“It’s a tempting proposal Maybank, but no. He’s not even worth the calories you would burn by punching him, trust me” you say, earning a small chuckle from the blonde beside you.
“Don’t take this the wrong way, because I know Jake never deserved you from the start. But…you don’t seem as upset as I thought you would given that your going through a break up”
You had no idea how to respond to JJ’s statement. Although you were pretty drunk, you were not about to tell him the truth, which was that Rafe had already replaced the void that Jake left, wether you would like to admit it or not.
“I don’t know… I guess I always knew he wasn’t right for me. And when I found out he cheated, I suppose I actually felt a bit relieved. I had an excuse not to be with him anymore” you say, a sincere look in your eyes as you fidget with your fingers.
JJ nods his head in understanding, bringing his beer bottle up to his lips and taking a swig of the cheap beverage.
“I need to pee. I’ll be back” you say, finishing your drink before standing up from the couch, not bothering to wait to hear a response from JJ.
After you use the bathroom upstairs, you walk back down the staircase. You take advantage of your high position on the stairs and notice that JJ is no longer sitting on the couch. You set off to go find him, but once you reach the bottom of the stairs you come to a halt.
Jake stands before you, his brown eyes studying your features before trailing his eyes up and down your body, a smug smirk on his face. Your stomach churned with disgust as you look up at the boy who you once thought you loved. You noticed his new girlfriend was no where to be seen.
“Get out of my way” you say, trying to push past him.
“Woah woah woah, your not ganna say hi to your boyfriend?” He tuts, grabbing your arm so you couldn’t move, and snaking his other arm around your waist. You were extremely uncomfortable at this point. His grip was tight, and you would be lying if you said you weren’t a little scared.
“Ex. Ex boyfriend. Now let go of me Jake” you say, a pleading look in your eyes as your urge him to leave you alone.
You struggle in his grip before finally being able to break free, and you try to create as much space in between you both as possible by stepping backwards. Being in the drunk state you were in, you forget there were stairs behind you, and you tripped.
You expected to fall onto the bottom of the staircase, but you never did. Instead, you felt a pair of muscular arms wrap around you, lifting you back up so you were steady.
“Rafe” you breathe out, mouth agape as you peer up at him. You hated how happy you felt to see him.
He doesn’t respond as he turns his attention to Jake, retracting his arms from your waist and stepping in front of you to stand chest to chest with your ex.
“Have we got a problem?” Rafe says, sending him a hard glare. If looks could kill, Jake would definitely be dead.
Jake scoffs. “What? No I-“
“See I think we do. She told you to leave her alone. If you don’t want to get the shit beaten out of you, I suggest you listen to her. Understand?” He says sternly, his low tone sending shivers down your spine. You could imagine how intimidated Jake felt.
Your ex nods his head reluctantly, his jaw clenched as he begins to walk off, but Rafe grabs his shoulder.
“You do so much as touch her again, and I will kill you with my bare hands” he says lowly, his features hardened to show he means every word. And he did.
Jake shrugs off Rafe’s arm, giving him no response as he walks into the crowds of people. You prayed that was the last time you would interact with him tonight.
Rafe turns his body to face you, your eyes immediately looking up at him through your eyelashes. His ocean blue orbs cast a spell on you as you stood before him, and you couldn’t help the smile that creeped up on your glossy lips.
“What?” He questions, his face softening as he turns all his attention to you. He was so happy to see you smile.
“Now I see where you get your reputation from” you say, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear.
“It’s not my fault, that guy has an extremely punch-able face”
You let out a little chuckle as a response. Truth be told, watching Rafe defend you so dominantly turned you on, a lot. The familiar ache between your thighs was present, and you pressed your legs together for some friction.
You were wearing a skirt, so Rafe noticed this, his mouth agape as he trailed his eyes down your body, watching the way your legs shut and you squirmed ever so slightly. This time, you enjoyed being watched.
The small action sent his thoughts into a frenzy, and when your eyes met with his again, you noticed the way his eyes had darkened.
“Plus…knowing that he’s touched you the way I’ve touched you…” he starts, stepping towards you and tangling his hand in your hair. He observed the way you drew in a sharp breath.
“It makes me want to put a bullet in his brain” he says quietly, so no one else can hear. If your insides weren’t burning before, they definitely were now.
“It does?” You question, biting your lip with anticipation.
He nods his head in response.
“He never touched me like you do, Rafe” you say seductively, fluttering your eyelashes at him.
“No?” He says, the smallest of smirks playing on his red lips as he brings his finger to your chin, forcing you to lock gazes with him. You felt like you were melting under his touch.
“The things you do to me. The way you touch me. The way you make me feel. I’ve never experienced it before” you say, your vulnerability on display as you pour your heart out to your best friends brother.
“Yeah?” He says, using his hand that was entangled in your hair to massage your scalp, making you relax under his touch.
“Yeah”
“The more you speak, the harder it is for me to control myself around you” he says.
“Wanna go upstairs?” You say innocently, but the look on your face was anything but innocent.
It didn’t take long for Rafe to nod his head as he begins guiding you upstairs, taking your small hand and intertwining it with his own.
When you were halfway up the stairs, you turned your head to scan the perimeter. You saw JJ on the couch, talking to a girl, and you were glad he was distracted. You couldn’t see Sarah or John B, so they must of been outside still.
Rafe leads you into an empty bedroom, shutting the door behind both of you. Immediately, he grabs the back of your thighs, giving them a light squeeze before lifting you up and wrapping your legs around him.
He leads you to the bed, before throwing you on it, and he doesn’t miss the way your breasts bounce as you hit the mattress.
In seconds, he’s on top of you, and his lips decide to claim yours. His tongue roams around your mouth as you melt under his touch, and you tangle your fingers in his hair, occasionally pulling at his dirty blonde locks. He groans into your mouth at the sensation, and you swear that every time you kiss Rafe, it feels like the very first time.
Rafe pulls away, bringing his mouth down to your neck, nipping and biting at your skin before peppering kisses all the way down your body, and you whimper under his touch. When he gets to your waist, he starts to pull your skirt down, pulling it off your legs and discarding it somewhere in the room.
“Look at you, sweet thing” he says, admiring how good you look beneath him. His praise only made the ache in your pussy grow even more, and you were beginning to grow desperate.
As if he could read your mind, he hooks his fingers under your lace thong and drags the thin material down your legs.
He wastes no time in kneeling down and spreading your legs, hooking his arms under your thighs to pull your dripping heat closer to his cherry red lips. You let out a heavenly moan as he licks a stripe up your wet folds.
“Mm, you taste sweet too” he murmurs, before latching his tongue onto your clit.
You didn’t respond as you were too caught up in the pleasure he was making you feel, and you meant what you said to him before. No one could ever make you tremble beneath them like Rafe Cameron could. That was just a fact.
Once again, your hands found solace in his hair, and you tried your best to stifle your moans by biting your lip, aware of the fact there were a lot of people downstairs. But when he inserted two fingers into you, you couldn’t contain the pornographic moans which left your lips.
“Shit, Rafe” you say, your eyes fluttering shut as you lose control over your body.
Rafe removes his tongue from your clit, and moved his body upwards so your face to face, his fingers still pumping into you.
“Look at me” he says, and you do just that, as obedient as ever.
“Your mine, and I’m yours. I want you to say it” He says, his lips brushing over yours as he speaks. His fingers were pounding into your pussy at a relentless pace, and it took everything in you to respond.
“Im yours, and you are mine”

Four years ago.
Three weeks before New Year's Eve.
Ever since you could remember you understood one thing that was going to define the first years of your life: you weren’t your brother. It wasn’t difficult to understand, but it was difficult to remember.
There was a four year gap between Simon and you, and an abyss between who he was and who you were that people didn’t seem to understand. Even if you had no interest in it, just the idea of competing with the image of your brother was completely pointless; he was the first son of a first daughter, the first grandson, the perfect portrait of your mother’s face, while you were the last granddaughter, the one who came at the wrong time, the one whose eyes could only resemble the sad ghost of your father.
You spent your preteen years witnessing how your aunts and your grandmother expected you to be the same, as if you were supposed to be as charming or as funny as him, despite the clear evidence that you were a completely different person. Maybe it was the dark clothes, or the black eyeliner you wore everyday, maybe your lack of social skills and the bad attitude in the mornings or just the desperate attempt to be different, while he was the cool sibling, you were seen as the weird one.
Maybe growing up with that label taped to your forehead would have made you resent him, you didn’t remember when or how, but you managed to separate him from all that bullshit. You loved Simon not just because you were attached to the hip since you were born, but because he was one of the few people who never expected anything from you but to be yourself. He always encouraged you to wear whatever clothes you wanted and listen to whatever screaming rock band you liked at the moment even if he didn’t understand any of it. And after all it wasn’t his fault that he was tall and handsome and good at basketball, it wasn’t his fault that you couldn’t and didn’t want to be a female version of him. You decided to embrace the difference. You weren’t your brother, and because of that you had to fight your way to find your own self.
When you found The Alley, or as Yoongi called it, the theater near the park with the weird fountains, you felt it clicked for you. It wasn’t just your theater classes, it was a place filled with people just like you, people who understood you. You didn’t have to explain your jokes there, you didn’t have to think twice before speaking, the image of your brother wasn’t hovering over you when people saw you, it was nice.
For the first time you were part of a community, you spent more time in The Alley than in your home, you knew all the bands who came to practice at the place, you knew the lady who cooked pizza for all the movie nights, you were friends with the guy who sold the tickets and the girl who worked at the bar. You spent all your summers volunteering with your friends, making popcorn, accommodating the seats, writing the plays you were going to perform when October came, it was part of you.
But when you had to leave for college you knew you had to leave everything behind. It’s been a long time since you outright refused to feel something remotely close to nostalgia. You refused to live evoking memories, to think that a fleeting good moment could make up for all the bad ones. It’s been a long time since you outright refused to live in the past, but tonight seemed to be an exception.
When your feet turned the corner of the park and your eyes found the Christmas Lights decorating the old theater on the other side of the street, you were hit by a wave of something you knew you shouldn’t feel, something close to relief. A feeling you always seemed to run away from.
“Should we buy popcorn?” Yoongi’s soft voice made you come out of your trance. You looked at him, waiting for the traffic light to turn red so you could cross the street.
“We need to get in line to secure our seats first.” You explained to him, feeling a rush of nervousness washing down your body. When you had your last day at The Alley you said goodbye to everyone and never made plans to come back, this was unexpected.
“But what if popcorn runs out?” He asked, as if that could be a possible scenario. “The line isn’t even that long.”
He pointed to the short line at the entrance, which was formed by just five people.
“Popcorn is not going to run out.” You rolled your eyes. “And even if the line is not long, we still need to get the best seats, they are not numbered.”
Yoongi stood in his place, understanding your logic, but at the same time wondering how did you know that the seats weren’t numbered in the first place.
He frowned “How did you know?” He asked. You turned to him, looking a bit confused, but then, a green light lit up his face, the traffic light allowing you to cross the street. You grabbed his hand, dragging him with you.
“Hurry up!” You exclaimed, quickly crossing the street to reach the end of the line.
Yoongi ran after you, but didn’t demand the answer of his question when you reached the end of the line. It was like both of you agreed not to disrupt one of those rare good moments when you didn’t have a frown on your face, it was so hard to grasp it that he decided to do whatever you said, he even let you make fun of him when you realized he was wearing a dress white shirt under his coat, just for the sake of keeping a smile on your face.
You touched the collar of his shirt, tugging from it just to annoy him.
“Ouch!” He complained, but didn’t do anything to pull away from you.
“My mom is probably thrilled that I’m hanging out with you.” You mentioned, fixing the collar and smoothing the fabric with your fingers like you weren’t the one who messed it up. “I bet she thinks that if I spend enough time with you, you’ll turn me into a lawyer like you.”
Yoongi scoffed, believing that impossible “I’m not a lawyer yet.” He said, and you knew that, but he wasn’t far from it. “But even if I was, I couldn’t turn you into one.”
“Of course not, we can’t both be lawyers.” You murmured, leaning on the wall behind you. “Besides, I couldn't be a lawyer… I’ve never learned to lie.” You looked at him out of the corner of your eye, waiting for his reaction, but he just rolled his eyes, sighing.
“You’re mean…” He hissed.
But Yoongi seemed to be fine with it, he took all your mean jokes about lawyers like a bullet, accepting his destiny, accepting how different both of you were.
In times like these, it hurt a bit to notice how kind he was, from the tip of his red nose to the palms of his rough hands, kindness was all he had to offer. The contrast of how hard you struggled to be nice to how easy it was for him was palpable, Yoongi smiled to the skinny teenage boy who checked your tickets and the girl who gave away flyers advertising the next movie night the following weekend and never forgot to say thank you, while you had to constantly remind yourself not to curse every person who crossed your way, at least not out loud.
Once you were inside the place you forced yourself to shake those thoughts off your head, determined to drag Yoongi across the principal hall in order to get your seats without looking back.
There were multiple kinds of chairs at the theater, it was one of the things that made it so special. The Alley was never built to be a theater, it was a big old house bought by a group of friends years and years ago. They tore up a few walls and built it to be a place to watch movies, paint, do theater, play music or write poetry. On movie nights they put together different chairs and a projector and it suddenly turned into a cinema.
You were sure Yoongi didn’t know any of this, it was the first time he put foot in this place, but you, who had plenty of experience, knew where the best seats were.
The best seats were located in the middle of the room, it was a couple of recycled red cinema chairs. You remembered that Sid, one of the owners of the place, told you that he got them at an auction and that they were vintage, but to you they just looked old and dusty at the time. Of course over time you realized that they were the best place to be, they were located just in the perfect place and they were the most comfortable, but they were only two sets of four chairs, so if you didn’t hurry up you would have ended up at the back of the room sitting on some bleachers.
Yoongi didn’t understand why you were in a rush to get there, but you were right, you got the best seats.
“Now, stay here.” You told him “I’m coming back with popcorn.”
You thought it was only right that if he bought the tickets, you were supposed to buy popcorn and drinks. But then again, you weren’t supposed to think of this as a date at all.
You rushed to the entry of the room, turning on the corner near the bar and saw the stand of popcorn. As you stood in the line, you realized you didn’t notice how cold it was outside until you felt how warm the place was inside. You guessed that the hurry to get to the seats didn’t give room to think about it at all.
Almost four years went by and it was like time didn’t pass at all inside these walls. Things in your hometown never changed, and sometimes you liked it that way, but most of the time it was the main reason why you wanted to run away from it. Your mom always said you were a creature of metamorphosis, always changing, and you accepted the title for a while, but now you were wondering if your need to morph just meant that you could never be truly happy with any of the paths that you chose for yourself.
In no time you bought the popcorn and came back to your seat, a little displeased with the thought, but glad that you didn’t find anyone who could recognize you. You were safe for now, perhaps you could watch the movie and come back home going unnoticed.
But of course things never worked in the way you wanted.
“Sorry, excuse me.” You murmured, managing to carry two cups filled with coke and a bucket of popcorn, you watched your step carefully, trying not to step on other people. You raised your gaze, focusing on reaching the empty seat next to Yoongi, who was looking at his phone.
You took a seat next to him, handing him the drink. He murmured a small ‘thank you’, but didn’t look at you. “What are you doing?” You asked him, burying a finger on the side of his torso, making him jump in surprise.
“I’m trying to prove you wrong, look…” He replied, showing the screen of his phone to you. You narrowed your eyes, trying to focus your gaze on whatever he was showing to you, a website filled with reviews of Home Alone 2. “It has good reviews.”
You snatched the phone off his hands, observing the preview photo and the poster of, what it seemed to be, Yoongi’s favorite movie. You scrolled for a couple seconds, checking if what he said was true. “Three stars' average reviews is not good.” You informed him, but now he looked offended.
“Three stars is good for a Christmas movie, what are you talking about?” He insisted.
“What are you talking about? The first one has five stars’ average reviews, if you settle for bad Christmas movies, that’s on you.” You teased him, giving him his phone back.
He shook his head, scoffing “I can’t believe you think Home Alone 2 is a bad Christmas movie, it has that scene with the pigeon lady!” He kept insisting.
“Which scene?” You asked, but by doing that, you gave yourself away.
“What do you mean which scene?” He asked, confused. You opened your mouth, wanting to defend yourself, but then he gasped. “God, Pinky. You have never watched Home Alone 2, haven’t you?
Your mouth hung open, starting to laugh “I-... I just-”
“No, I can’t believe it.” He laughed, shaking his head in disapproval “You never watched it.”
“I’ve watched the beginning, okay?” You tried to explain. “And I think it was enough for me to decide if it was a good movie or not.”
“Bullshit.” Yoongi said, now a bit offended that you talked shit about a movie that you didn’t even finish.“You can’t decide that if you didn’t even watch the scene with the pigeon lady.”
You laughed even harder, covering your mouth with the palm of your hand. “I don’t even know what you’re talking about.”
He opened his eyes widely. “Of course you don’t, you didn’t watch the movie!” He exclaimed “You just have to stop pretending to be a film critic to enjoy some movies, you know that?”
You rolled your eyes. “C’mon, the fact that I’m here means that I’m willing to try.”
The fact that you were here meant you were irremediably in love with him, a voice in your head reminded you of that, and maybe it was the same thing.
“For me?” He teased you, making you close your eyes for a split second. That didn’t help at all.
You sank into your seat, “For you, I guess.”
And that could've been the beginning of the end of the night. You and Yoongi watching the movie and coming back home before it was too late and laying in bed remembering every word he said, like they meant something else, before falling asleep.
But nothing could ever be that simple.
“You!” A high pitched voice interrupted the silence. You raised your gaze, startled. Your eyes found a redhead girl turned around in the seat in front of you, pointing her finger at you with a big smile decorating her bright red lips. “I knew I recognized that voice from somewhere!”
You felt your stomach drop.
Minnie.
“Oh, God, Minnie.” You breathed out. “You scared me!”
Perhaps on the way here you prayed so hard not to see somebody you knew tonight that whoever that was up there in the sky heard you, but instead of helping you, decided to laugh at you in your face, because sitting directly in front of you was Minnie, one of your closest partners during your theater days.
And the only person who you ever told about Yoongi.
“Do I look that old?” She giggled, cupping her face in her palms “It’s only been a few years, but I feel like I haven’t seen you in decades!”
“Yes…I mean, no!” You pressed your lips together, crossing looks with Yoongi, who looked at you with curious eyes. “I just didn't expect to see you here.”
“Me?” Minnie scrunched her nose, laughing “I didn’t expect to see you, what are you doing here?”
“Me?” You nervously laughed. “I was in town and I- we came to see the movie…” You managed to explain, trying to act as normal as possible, but you were sure that your shaking eyes, jumping from Yoongi’s face to Minnie’s, were giving you away. “This is Yoongi, by the way. And this is Minnie, a friend.” You introduced both of them.
If any of them realized how nervous you were, they didn’t say a thing.
Minnie, as expressive as she was, opened her eyes wide open, surprised.
“Oh, Yoongi, Yoongi?” She asked, emphasizing every vowel of his name.
“Is there another Yoongi?” Yoongi laughed, turning his head to see you.
You wanted to vomit.
“Mmm, not that I know of!” She smiled, offering her hand for him to shake. “Nice to finally meet you, Yoongi-Yoongi.” Yoongi took her hand, shaking it three times right in front of your petrified face. “I heard a lot of things about you back in the day.”
Minnie winked at you in a very exaggerated manner, instantly making you freeze in your place. Now you were a hundred percent sure that you were about to vomit, but maybe that would be an amazing scenario for you, you would have to run away to the closest bathroom and wouldn’t have to be in the presence of this interaction.
“Oh, really?” Yoongi smiled, displaying his gummy smile. “What things?”
“You know, all kinds of things.” She raised her eyebrows, clearly amused with the look on your face, that begged her to please shut up.
“Me and Minnie- we used to come here a lot when we were in high school.” You intervened in the conversation, trying to change the subject as soon as you could without thinking much.
“That’s right, we were pretty close!” She reminisced “We were always paired up together.”
“Paired up in what?” Yoongi asked, naturally.
“Theater.” She explained without giving you much time to think about saying something else. “Didn’t you know that your girl had her beginnings here, at The Alley?”
You gulped, and Yoongi, for the first time during the night, seemed to read you just right. He tilted his head, surprised “Well, no. She didn’t say anything.”
“Really?” She frowned, not understanding why, but Yoongi immediately got it.
“It was a long time ago…” You trailed off, trying hard not to make it seem like a big deal, like it was just a hobby you had when you were a teenager, but Yoongi knew you. He could see it in your eyes, the same look you had when Simon caught you using his legos, when you had to tell your mom you got suspended for getting in a fight in high school, the same look you had when you were caught. It was clear to him that you didn’t want him to see that part of you, whatever it was.
“I mean, she’s always been pretty mysterious, hasn’t she?” Minnie said “It takes a while to figure her out, you’ll get there.”
“I think I’m close enough, aren’t I?” His answer was smooth, almost annoying you. He playfully squeezed your knee and you wished he hadn't done it, because your old friend was now looking at you with stars in her eyes full of excitement. It had been almost four years since you had a proper talk with Minnie, but despite the fact that little to nothing happened between you and the man next to you, you were sure she was convinced you were on a date right now.
And perhaps it was not just his hand on your knee, maybe it was the fond look on his eyes too, seeking complicity in his jokes, but you were not going to go down that route tonight. You scoffed. “Not one bit.” You said, out of bitterness, because Yoongi knew you as well as your brother, perhaps his only flaws were being dumb and blind, but that came with being a man anyway.
For your own good, the lights of the room flickered twice, meaning that the movie was about to start soon. “That means I should leave you alone, right?” Minnie sighed, “But it’s really nice to see you here after so long, sweetheart.”
You nodded, offering her a soft smile, but you couldn’t help but feel guilty. It was in Minnie’s nature to always offer love and kindness to everyone, but it was hard to hold her gaze when she called you by that name, knowing that you didn’t deserve it.
“It’s nice to see you, too.” Was all you could say, despite it being a lie.
In another universe you would’ve loved to see your old friend and feel something bigger than nostalgia, but you couldn’t, you felt obligated to reject the feeling. You couldn’t live in the fantasy of what could have been.
She was about to turn around, but before she could do it, she raised one of her fingers, like she just remembered something. “By the way… Are you still doing theater?” She inquired.
You shrugged, shaking your head “Ummm… Not really…”
She pouted, disappointed. “That’s a shame, because… I don’t know, it’s crazy that I’m seeing you tonight. I know of someone who’s looking for someone just like you, if you were interested.” Her words lingered in the air, but the lights flickered again. “But I’m guessing I should keep that for after the movie… And Yoongi!” She exclaimed, pointing at him “I’m glad that you finally stopped dating dumb girls, my friend right there was very popular around here. You’re very lucky.”
You almost gasped, immediately turning your head to Yoongi, who just scoffed amused. Before you could even breathe, your friend turned around exactly when the lights went off, starting the movie right away.
You held your breath for what felt to be an eternity, but in the darkness you saw a smirk tugging from Yoongi’s lips, being followed by an outburst of laughter. The sound of his quiet laugh made you freeze in your place, was he laughing at you?
You opened your mouth, trying to find an explanation for your friend’s comment, but he shook his head as if he was stopping you, clearly entertained by the shocking look on your face. “Oh, save it for later.” He whispered, brushing it off.
You pressed your lips together, sinking in your seat as you observed him focusing on the movie, and you were supposed to do the same, but you couldn’t think of anything else. The only thing you could hope for was that he couldn’t see how red your face was, because you sure as hell could feel it.
God, you wanted to die, but whoever put you through this whole thing knew that death could only be seen as kindness.
How come that after years of quitting theater you were still being this dramatic? You didn’t know, but tonight death felt like a greater destiny than the embarrassment you felt.
In situations like these, you remembered two specific times during the past seven years when you thought you got over Yoongi, but then you realized you failed miserably.
You evoked the memory of those two situations for a special reason, to teach you a lesson: you must not continue to engage with the man sitting next to you. There were three reasons for you to learn from this lesson, because otherwise:
It would hurt your mind.
It would hurt your heart.
It would hurt your soul.
These seemed three perfectly logical reasons to learn the lesson, but you were never the best student.
The first memory that always came to mind was the first time Yoongi and Simon came back home for Christmas after going to college. It had been six months since you decided to convince yourself that the last two years you spent being in love with him were just a fever, but when Yoongi walked in the room and you saw that he got a new haircut and pierced his ears, you thought that the plan “get over my brother’s best friend” would not work at all, at least not now. Maybe you could try the following year.
(Spoiler: the following year did not work either.)
The second time was last summer, a few months ago, when both of them came back for summer break and Yoongi invited you to some pool party. You were supposed to go with Simon, but at the last minute he ended up getting sick and told you two to go alone. There was a time when you believed that Simon worked as some kind of barrier between you and Yoongi, hanging out with them meant that now you were a group of three, it reminded you that the only reason you kept seeing Yoongi was because he was Simon’s best friend, nothing else. And when you and Yoongi were alone, well… It was different.
That night none of you were planning to get into the pool, it was a strange house full of strange people and it almost felt like you were crashing the party. You were wearing a black summer dress and Yoongi was wearing jeans, you only went for free alcohol and to check if someone had any weed, you thought you were safe. Of course every little effort you made trying not to think that way about him anymore was ruined when decided to take off his shirt, grab you by your hips and jump in the pool, dragging you with him.
Needless to say, you were furious. The only thought that crossed your mind was that neither of you had a change of clothes, but he didn’t care. When you got your head out of the water, you saw him laughing.
You gasped “Fuck you!” You punched his arm, not caring that everyone around you was observing you, laughing because he did something cute.
He kept laughing “I’m sorry, you looked hot!” He defended himself, grabbing your arms to pull you closer under the water.
“What!?” You shouted, fighting against his hold but wondering if you heard that right.
“You looked like you needed a dip!” He clarified, shouting back. His lips stretched widely, showing you a white smile. You wished you could punch that cheeky expression off his face, but you were too busy trying not to sink into the water as he firmly gripped your waist, crashing your body against his bare chest.
“You idiot, I can’t swim!” You whined, gripping his shoulders so you wouldn’t drown.
He snickered, hugging you closer. “It’s fine, Pinky, I wouldn’t let you die in front of all these people.”
The moment you realized you had not gotten over Yoongi was not then, it was not when he took off his shirt either, and it was not when you saw him running his fingers through his wet hair, nor when you saw the drops of water dripping down his wide back, no. Not even when he wrapped his strong arms around your body or when he gripped your hips and lifted you up to seat you on the edge of the pool. You realized that you were still in love with Yoongi when he sat next to you, and when he realized that you were not playing, that you were really angry, he cupped your face in his hands and kissed your forehead, whispering “I’m sorry.”
The heart clenching memory of the look on his face, the sound of his voice and the touch of his lips against your skin were enough to screw you up, but not enough to make you learn the lesson.
Now, sitting next to him, you began to think that you were finally losing your mind when you tried to focus on the movie for the first ten minutes, and then for the next thirty minutes, and the next fifty, but when an hour passed you found out, or you just remembered, that it was useless to focus on something else when Yoongi was by your side.
You often forgot how impossible it was for you to ignore Yoongi’s presence, even in the most packed and loudest rooms, but the confirmation that you finally drove yourself insane was when you noticed that you just couldn’t ignore his arm laying next to yours in the shared armrest, or your hands touching when you reached to grab popcorn, and you certainly couldn’t ignore his fingers when they reached to play with the fabric of the hem of your sleeve.
You carefully looked down to the arm rest, observing his fingers tugging the tiny piece of ruffle fabric at the end of your sleeve. He wasn’t trying to get your attention or to annoy you, it was something almost unconscious, a small gesture, very easy to miss, but it was enough for you to stop breathing for a moment. Now, it was impossible to ignore the warmth of his fingers slightly grazing over your wrist.
You sighed deeply, feeling the failure sinking in your bones once again. The line between what you were supposed to feel and what you were actually feeling was always blurry, but this time seemed to be completely erased, and once again, you were the one to blame for thinking that this time seeing Yoongi could be any different.
You were screwed up again.
You could say you enjoyed the last part of the movie, at least the parts where you were zoning out enough to quiet your mind, but when the lights were turned on you remembered that your brain hated you.
Your eyes swept the place, observing the people around you clapping as the credits rolled down.
“So?” His voice sneaked into the hustle and bustle of your head, making you turn to look at him, but your eyes focused on the almost empty bucket of popcorn on his lap. “Do you like it? I’ve never seen Home Alone on a big screen.”
You grabbed a handful of popcorn from the very bottom of the bucket. “I’ve seen it plenty of times on a big screen.” You said, stuffing your mouth with the food so you wouldn’t answer any of the questions you knew he was about to make, but the second those words left your mouth you realized you gave yourself away.
“Yeah, I imagine.” He scoffed, signaling with his head towards the empty seat where Minnie was sitting a few seconds ago. You were grateful that she disappeared the moment the movie ended so she wouldn’t hear this conversation. “I heard some of it just now.” You huffed, pretending to be tired of him and chewing long enough to prevent yourself from talking. “Is there anything else I should know? Apart from the fact that you have a secret twin who takes theater classes and has friends who are actually nice?”
The only thing that could come out of your mouth was something rude. “Oh, shut up.” You spat, looking at anything else except his face.
Yoongi shifted on his seat with a shameless smirk decorating his face, getting closer to you. “Don’t! Don’t shut me up.” He laughed, casually grabbing your face between his fingers so you wouldn’t run away from his gaze. “I want to know all about that, like, were you really talking shit about me during high school?”
You frowned, remembering what Minnie said about Yoongi dating dumb girls. Of all the conclusions he could have drawn from that, was that the one he came up with?”
“I wasn’t… talking shit about you.” You wanted to explain “Have you considered that I was just really into gossiping?”
He snorted, “It’s the same thing.”
“It’s not.” You denied.
“So you were gossiping about me?” He asked “About the girls I dated?”
“C’mon, what about it?” You tried to dismiss as quickly as possible “I was like fourteen, and in my defense, you never had good taste in girls.”
Yoongi narrowed his eyes, a bit offended “Why? You really think the girls I dated were dumb?” You bit your bottom lip, trying to suppress a laugh. “That’s not very feminist of you.”
You rolled your eyes “Oh shut up, what do you know about feminism?” You said. “Those were just… facts.”
“Yeah, I’m sure of that.” He scoffed “What I’m not so sure about is that thing your friend said… That I’m really lucky to be with you.”
“Ignore her.” You tried to cut him, looking away so he wouldn’t notice how embarrassed you were.
“No, why?” He smiled, poking fun at you. “She said you were really popular, but I don’t get it. I don’t know a man who could stand your behavior for more than two hours. Besides me, of course.”
You could be offended by that, but it was the truth.
“Well, they couldn't,” You said, crossing your arms over your chest. “They just wanted me for my talent.”
“Let me doubt that.” He said “If you were so good, why did you never tell me?”
“Well, it was a secret” You confessed, there was no point in hiding now. “I didn’t want anyone to know, people would think it was dumb.”
“And when did you care about what other people think?”
You sighed. All the time, you wanted to say, but you kept that for yourself.
“I just... wanted it for myself, no one had to know.” You explained.
Yoongi waited a few seconds for you to say something else, but you weren’t willing to pour your heart to him just yet. Yes, when you found The Alley you discovered a part of yourself that was completely unique, but that didn’t mean you wanted to share it. It was for you only, and you were happy with that.
“Well, Pinky.” He sighed, squeezing your knee like he always did. “Even if it was a secret… I’m telling you, you were pretty obvious.”
“What do you mean?” You frowned, confused
“I mean, you always liked High School Musical a little bit too much.” He explained as a mocking smirk tugged from the corners of his lips. “At first I thought it was just Zac Efron, but now it makes sense.”
You nudged his shoulder before the frown in your face disappeared into laughter. “High School Musical is the best movie ever, to be obsessed with it was just logical.” You tried to excuse yourself “That and, of course, Zac Efron.”
“I never thought you would have a thing for basketball players.” He muttered, trying to play nonchalant as his eyes wandered towards the corner of the room, circling back to your gaze. You realized he was expecting an answer for that.
“Kind of.” You waved off, pretending to be laid back about it. “But only the ones who have this internal struggle about their father’s plans for their future and their unusual passion for musical comedy.”
He let out an amused snort. “Very specific, what a shame.”
You stared at him for a second, wondering what game he was trying to play now.
You tried so hard to keep your face straight, to try to show him that you weren’t phased by any of his stupid jokes. You wanted to remind him that you weren’t like any of those girls who were charmed just by the sight of his eyes, you weren’t like those girls he stopped in the hallways just to make them giggle when you were in high school, you wanted to make clear that you were different — except that, of course, you weren’t. The moment he displayed that specific smirk, you committed the unforgivable crime of blushing.
But he was quick to dismiss it, he always was.
And you were obligated to forget about it.
“So? Why did you leave it?” He inquired, “Were you that bad?” He ignored that the room was now almost empty. Maybe in another situation you would’ve taken advantage of that and told him it was time to go to avoid telling the truth, but why hide now? Maybe telling the truth wasn’t so bad.
You smirked, rolling your eyes. “I was the best one in my group, you don’t even know.”
“Yeah?” He moved closer to you with big eyes, showing you how curious he was.
“Of course, do you have any doubts?”
“Well, yes, a few.” He teased “I’d have to see it for myself.”
“Sure, when they clear the stage I’ll do a demonstration just for you.” You joked, successfully making him laugh.
“That would be an amazing way to avoid my question.” He pointed.
You felt your chest getting lighter, and if that hinted you that it meant something dangerous, you ignored it.
“I wasn’t doing that.” You tried to defend yourself.
“You do that all the time.” He reminded you, and he was right. You bit back a smile, darting him a look for exposing you.
“Fine, then. I’ll be honest.” You surrendered, maybe Yoongi could convince you to jump off a cliff if he looked at you with those eyes. “I left it when I was finishing high school, I was about to leave for college and… I had to grow up, you know? I grew too attached to this place but I knew I couldn’t cling onto these things forever.”
“Can’t you?” He questioned “Didn’t you like to do it?”
“I mean, yes, but-”
“Then, why drop it?” He interrupted.
You breathed in, wishing that you could find the words to say it in a way that made sense, because you weren’t sure what was right or wrong anymore.
“Maybe I was on an ego trip back then, I don’t know.” You admitted. “I thought I was genuinely good but I couldn’t do anything about it, like I was stuck here. I had to let it go, for me it’s all or nothing.”
Perhaps you weren’t talking only about theater now. Perhaps you were talking about everything, perhaps you were talking about him. And it was a bit harsh, but it was the truth, or what you decided to be the truth. Yoongi took one hard look at you, as if he was expecting you to realize how dumb that sounded, but you already knew that, otherwise you wouldn’t be there right now, at home before Christmas because you dropped out of college. You didn’t even know if when you left for college that excuse made sense, you just knew that you were bitter and angry and if you couldn't follow your dreams, you didn’t want them at all. And if you couldn’t be with Yoongi, you couldn’t see him at all.
You ripped the bandaid off, but three years later it exploded in your face.
“All or nothing?” He repeated, but you just nodded. “But did you try first? Because as far as I know you didn’t.”
You bitterly laughed,“Yeah, right” You got up from your seat, ready to leave “And who would’ve taken me seriously?”
He got up with you, blocking the way to stop you from getting out from the sea of chairs just yet. You raised your chin, finding his eyes. “I would have.” He casually mumbled, but his words echoed in your head, clenching your heart.
You tried to search in your brain for something snarky to say, but you froze under his gaze. “And If I wouldn’t have…” He continued “If I were a complete prick who doesn’t care about you, you should’ve done it anyway. Even if your mom puts on a bad face.”
You wanted to stop him, to shut him up. But he was right, even if you didn’t need to hear that tonight. You loved your mom and you knew she didn’t expect anything from you but to be happy, she was just worried, you knew that, but you hated that she had to see you trip with your own decisions.
“Have you ever tried to be wrong?” You asked him, pushing his chest with your palms. “Like, just once?” Walking past him, hearing his laugh behind you followed by his quick steps running after you.
“Don’t be mad ‘cause I’m right.” He teased.
“I’m not mad.” You said, walking towards the entrance, hearing music coming from the other room. “Just annoyed that you had to go to college and left me here making dumb decisions.”
He smiled, happy that you decided to show a glimpse of love for him. “Do I need to remind you that you’re just twenty one and your life is not over?”
“Yes, maybe.” You said “Several times a day, please.”
You stood in the hall, attempting to put your coat back on, but he stopped you, stealing the piece of clothing away from you. “What are you doing?” He asked, smiling. “Don’t you know that we have to dance now?”
You widely opened your eyes, almost completely forgetting that. When you bought the tickets for movie nights, you were also invited to the afterparty that was held right after the movie ended, hence the loud music playing in the next room, the biggest one of the place. You didn’t think Yoongi would be interested in staying.
“Do you want to dance?” You checked first. You didn’t know if you were interested in staying either.
“C’mon, I have plenty of experience from frat parties.” He bragged, taking a few steps back towards the room where the music came from.
You shook your head. “This isn’t like those parties you went to with Simon where they play Shape Of You every three songs”
“Why would it be different?” He said, slightly offended. Yoongi kinda liked Shape Of You…
You grabbed his hand, dragging him into the next room as you asked him something very important, “Yoongi, do you know who The Strokes are?”
After entering the room, Yoongi disappeared for a few moments to leave your coats in the cloakroom of the place, leaving you alone to collect your thoughts once again. When you first entered the place to watch the movie you couldn’t wait to leave, and now you were in a dark room under the red lights, feeling excited at the idea of dancing like you were a teenager again. It was time for you to understand that your life was already a mess, nothing was going to change if you stayed at The Alley dancing just for tonight.
When Yoongi came back you were quick to drag him towards the center of the dancefloor, right when the first chords of Last Nite by the Strokes began to resonate in the room, you couldn’t help but feel a rush of happiness running down your body. Yoongi looked at you funny, rolling his sleeves up to his elbows. He didn’t expect that you, of all people, would be excited to dance.
It turned out that Yoongi didn’t live under a rock, he did know who The Strokes were, but barely. You knew that he always preferred hip hop and rap, but the lack of interest he had for other genres surprised you. “I don’t know the song!” He shouted over the music
“What about it?” You said, grabbing his hands to pull him closer. “You must dance anyway, or they’ll kick you out!”
The look of terror in Yoongi’s eyes made you laugh, but you didn’t pity him, he was the one who wanted to dance in the first place, even when both of you knew that he wasn’t the kind of person who dance at parties, he wasn’t the kind of person who danced at all.
“How!?” He asked, ignoring the mass of people jumping around him.
“Just do what I do!” You exclaimed, shaking your head side to side to the rhythm, making the strands of your hair hit your face, and his face too. Yoongi laughed, knowing then that if he didn’t dance he would look like an absolute loser. He was still hesitant to follow you, but when you began to jump, he slowly began to jump too, trying hard to shake his head the same way you were doing as he felt his ribcage shake from his laughter.
You nodded your head, happily tapping your feet against the ground to the loud rhythm of the drums “Oh, baby I feel so down, oh, it turn’ me off” You sang to him, but he shook his head, disappointed that he didn’t know the lyrics and couldn’t sing the words back to you, but you didn’t care, you were happy enough watching him trying to copy your moves.
You grabbed his hands, perhaps taking advantage of the situation to tangle his fingers with you, opening your arms with your hands still connected to his, shortening the distance. “I’m not a good dancer either.” You said, maybe way too close to his face.
Yoongi scrunched his nose, giving you a half twirl to make your back crush against his chest, trapping you between his arms. “Are you saying I’m not a good dancer?” You felt his lips brushing against your cheek, making you shiver.
You closed your eyes shut, trying to breathe in. “Not all!” You yelled, spinning out of his arms. “But no one’s watching.”
He took the liberty to slide his hands down your torso, gripping your waist and pulling you close to his body. “You are watching.” He said, like he was reminding you.
“Then, impress me.”
You were thankful that the sound of the music drowned the sound of your heart, who was threatening to run away from your chest in the exact moment he smiled at you, accepting the challenge.
You couldn’t count the amount of times Yoongi made you spin in the room, like you were dancing a waltz, before you realized that neither of you were wearing clothes made for dancing, you were wearing a black long sleeve shirt and Yoongi was wearing that ridiculous white dress shirt that made him look like he came out of one of your dreams when he rolled up his sleeves. As one song ended and another one started, he began to stop caring if he didn’t know the lyrics, it was fine as long as he followed you, but when your hands began to felt sweaty and you felt like you needed air, you decided it was time to leave, but not before you finished dancing Song 2 by Blur, because what other chance would you have to dance Song 2 by Blur with Yoongi? And what other chance would you have to watch him copy every move you made like you were an expert at dancing? And what other chance would you have to be alone with him without feeling like your heart was sinking? It was like the loud music didn’t allow you to feel anything else but joy, or maybe you were already high from all the people smoking weed around you, either way, you were happy.
You didn’t want to began feeling overwhelmed, the most exciting thing that happened today, before Yoongi, was finding out that your mom’s boyfriend gave her a teddy bear that sang All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey when you pressed its paw, you could blame —or just thank him— for taking you out of your house. Your heart didn’t feel as heavy as it did at the beginning of the night, but you knew it was time to leave.
As he waited at the door, you decided to look for your coats. There was a line of people waiting to leave theirs, when you were just trying to leave the place. You expected to get in line, wait a maximum of five minutes and then leave, but right at the end of the line you found, of course, Minnie, because it couldn’t be any other way.
She was alone, holding two purses and a big puffer jacket that was probably not hers. As soon as you stood behind her, she turned around, clearly she wasn’t expecting to see you again. “Oh, hi again!” She greeted you with the same big white smile you saw earlier tonight. “I had to leave when the movie ended, but I wanted to talk to you, where’s your boyfriend?”
You sighed, not wanting to remember what she said to Yoongi. “He’s not my boyfriend, Minnie.” You said. “He’s just… Yoongi.”
“Just Yoongi, huh?” She raised her eyebrows, pursing her lips. “What are you doing on a date with Just Yoongi?”
“It’s not a date, he just invited me to watch the movie.” You tried to explain, but she wasn’t convinced.
“Sounds like a date to me.” She giggled, completely ignoring what you said. “I remember when you were like fifteen and cried because he kissed some ugly girl at the New Year’s party, and now you’re on a date!”
You shook your head, you didn't dare to acknowledge what she said. The memory of that night made you cringe, you remembered running to Minnie and telling everything about it while sobbing like somebody just died. She hugged you and told you that she was sure the girl was super ugly, which wasn’t the truth at all, but it was the version she decided to keep.
“But it’s not a date.” You reminded her.
“If you say so…” She winked at you, taking a step forward to advance in the line. “But anyway! Weren’t you still in college?”
Perhapsit was the rush of the dopamine in your body, or the fact that she spoke to you as if not a day had passed since the last time she saw you, but you told her the truth.
“Well, I’m supposed to be in college.” You said, “But I dropped out recently.”
“Oh, thank God.” She suddenly let out, almost by accident. You looked at her, amused that she dared to say that. “I mean, don’t get me wrong!” She rushed to say “It’s just, you know, it was about time for you to realize.”
You smiled, feeling your chest getting warm. When you told people you dropped out of college, most of the time they looked worried, like you made a mistake, but Minnie looked relieved, and that made you feel like it wasn’t such a horrible decision.
“I know, don’t remind me.” You huffed, looking at your feet.
“I can't help but do it.” She said, crossing her arms over her chest, thinking “I always thought I was going to see you on a big screen someday, I was disappointed when you left for college.”
How cheesy, you wanted to say, but you couldn’t, not when she was the one who believed in you in ways you never did.
“Well, I’m out of there now.” You just said.
“So, if you’re not in college and you’re not doing theater, what are you doing?”
You scoffed, feeling like you just got scolded “Rotting in bed until Christmas, I guess.”
“Okay, I can respect that, but what about after the holidays?” She continued to ask.
You shrugged, “I have to figure that out yet.”
“So… About what I was telling you before the movie started…”
“Yeah, I mean, about that…” You wanted to interrupt her, but she was quick to cut your sentence.
“Yeah, I know what you’re gonna say, you’re out the theater stuff too, I know.” She said, waving her hands in front of your face so you wouldn’t keep talking. “But I’ve got this friend in the city who’s a director, he is working on this project and is looking for a main character, I don’t know, for some reason it reminded me of you. And now you’re here, so it has to mean something, right?”
You furrowed your eyebrows “Why would it remind you of me?” You inquired. “We haven’t seen each other in years.”
“Crazy, isn’t it?” She laughed, “He pitched to me, it’s some gothic dramatic love story, he wanted to know if I knew of someone.”
Was this some kind of joke? You, realizing that you were never happy in college, coming back home, coming back to the theater where you used to dream to step on a stage someday, or Yoongi telling you all that stuff about not even trying to make your dreams come true, and now this? Something inside you moved, you didn’t know what, but you did know why you were home after all. You told Yoongi about this in your garage the other day, you dropped out of college for a reason, you weren’t built to have a nine to five job, but you also weren’t sure what is what you wanted.
You looked at Minnie like you were sorry to turn down her proposal “Minnie, I haven’t been on a play in years.” You told her, already anticipating the rejection of her offer.
“I know that, but I’ve always trusted your talent, otherwise I wouldn’t be talking about this.” She replied “Look, I’m not asking you to say yes right now, but if you want to know more you can give me your new number.” You kept quiet for a few seconds. Not knowing what to say, you began to nervously laugh, that sounded crazy to you. “C’mon, don’t laugh! If it's of any use, it's a very well paid job.”
Now you began to laugh for real. “What do you mean it's a very well paid job?” You asked, not believing her for one second. Most plays you used to be part of during your high school days never left a dime.
“It is!” She insisted “You don’t know my friend, he has rich parents, he doesn't do things for the love of art. I mean, he likes theater, but he also likes money.”
Well, that could’ve made you change your mind right away a four years ago, but still, a few hours ago you came to this place counting the seconds to leave, now you were debating if you should accept a job offer. You shook your head, realizing that the line moved far enough, it was Minnie’s turn to leave her coat.
She took a few seconds and then it was your turn. You quickly asked for Yoongi’s jacket and your coat and when you turned around, Minnie was still there, not willing to give up.
“What do I have to do to convince you to at least give me your new number?” She pleaded, looking for something in her mini bag. You observed her pulling a lighter and a joint and putting it between her lips to light it up.
“What are you willing to do?” You joked, or not.
“What do you have in mind?” Well, she knew you.
“I have an idea…” You insinuated, pointing at the joint.
She let out a cloud of smoke out of her mouth, suddenly frowning. “Really?” She said, trying not to sound annoyed, you nodded your head several times, almost excited. “You can’t be asking for the whole joint.”
“But I am.”
Minnie shook her head in denial. “I can let you smoke it once, I’m not giving it to you.” She offered instead, but you wanted to make it worth it. If you were going to even consider accepting the job, if you were going to even think about something like theater again, you wanted at least something in return.
“I’m giving you half my number, then.” You said “Try to guess the other half.”
She narrowed her eyes, hesitating. Your old friend knew that you weren’t joking at all, and for some reason she really wanted you to consider her offer. You knew you won when she rolled her eyes, giving in. “You never stopped being a little bitch, have you?” She hissed, reluctantly handed you the joint. You happily accepted, taking a long drag before it went out. Minnie sighed, sadly watching her perfectly rolled joint in the hands of someone else. “So? Your new number?”
A devilish smirk appeared in your face as you began to walk backwards, taking long steps towards the entrance as you enjoyed the confused expression on Minnie’s face. “I never changed my number.” You confessed.
Minnie’s mouth hung open in disbelief, but she made sure that the last thing you saw from her that night was her middle finger up, directed towards you.
It’s been a long time since you outright refused to feel something remotely close to nostalgia, to live evoking memories, to think that a fleeting good moment could make up for all the bad ones, but it was impossible not to. Instead, you were condemned to live wondering what it would be like to come back home someday and not feel this way, to come to The Alley and not feel like you left a part of you there, to look at Yoongi and not feel like you were going to miss him all your life.
And tonight wasn’t an exception, because when you came back to Yoongi and he offered what seemed to be the warmest smile in the coldest of winters, you knew it might haunt you forever.
But maybe, just for tonight, you didn’t care.
“Why are you making that face?” Yoongi asked, raising a brow as he grabbed his jacket from your hands.
“What face?” You asked back, innocently keeping your hands behind your back.
He opened his mouth to explain what he meant, but then shut it again, staying silent for a minute as he inspected your face. “Did you just… smoke weed?” He laughed, probably already smelling it.
A smile appeared on your face as you showed him your right hand. Yoongi observed the joint between your thumb and index finger, and wondering where you got that, he tried to take it from your hands.
You took a step back, moving your arm away from him so he wouldn’t steal it. “What? Is this not legal?” You chuckled.
“Who gave you that?” He asked, grabbing your wrist, but you raised your arm higher.
“Are you interrogating me?” You kept teasing him, fighting his hold. “I’m sorry Mr. Min, but I’m not a snitch.”
Yoongi let go of your wrist, quickly giving up. “Are you not sharing?” He asked, a little disappointed.
“I don’t know.” You pointed your finger at your chin, pretending to think about it “Are you allowed?”
You walked past him, heading towards the entrance to exit the place. “You’re so annoying.” You heard him say, already knowing he was following you.
Both of you knew that the night was coming to an end, as soon as you stepped foot on the street you could smell the dew on the grass and hear how loud were your footsteps on the empty street. You looked at him through your lashes, observing him lighting up the joint between your lips as with a lighter he found in his pockets. You held the smoke inside your mouth for a few seconds before blowing it on his face, but he just laughed, stealing from your lips.
You wondered what else you could do to make him stay a bit longer.
He crossed the desolate street, grabbing your hand to drag you into the poorly illuminated park. It was really cold and you could see your cold breath in the air. Everyone else in the world seemed to agree that it was time to sleep, but you didn’t dare to complain as he decided to take the long way home.
“How do you know when you’re high?” He curiously asked, eyes locking up with yours as he took another draw.
It was easy for you to tell, you could get high with only one puff. “I have this thing, I test if my teeth are heavy.” You told him, expecting him to understand right away.
He laughed, confused. “What do you mean?”
“Look, if you clench your jaw you can tell that your teeth touch each other.” You explained. Yoongi stopped dead in his tracks, standing in front of you to test it himself. “I know that I’m high when my top teeth are feeling heavy.”
Yoongi snorted, keeping his mouth closed to test it himself. “I don’t know if mine are heavy.” He said “Are yours?”
You already knew you’re high, but you tested it regardless. Closing your mouth, you pressed your teeth together to know “Yes, they are.” You laughed, feeling dizzy. “How do you know?”
It wasn’t the first time you saw Yoongi high, you remembered that time, you were woken up at three in the morning when your brother dragged him into your house after their graduation party because he smoked too much, and Yoongi’s mom couldn’t find out that her son almost died because he didn't know how to use a bong.
It was the first time that he made Simon look like the responsible friend. Yoongi was seeing shadows before leaving the party and when he arrived at your home was calmer, but still high. He was strangely afraid of going upstairs, so the three of you stayed in the living room watching very low quality episodes of Pinky and The Brain on YouTube. Simon let you stay under the condition of not telling your mom about Yoongi having a bad trip, so you did. The memory of Yoongi laughing at the screen and eating the cake your mom bought to celebrate was still very engraved in your mind.
This version was very different. Yoongi’s hooded eyes were crystallized and there was an awkward smile plastered on his face that wasn’t going away. You could tell he was high in the way he was walking, and especially in the way he was still holding your hand.
The silence lingered in the air for a second. He pressed his lips together, scanning your face. “I know I’m high when it’s hard for me to tell if I’m looking at one thing or the whole picture.” He tried to explain “Like, I can’t focus on more than one thing at once.”
Somehow, you understood. “What are you looking at right now?”
In that moment, Yoongi seemed to be asking himself that very same question in his head, but he already knew the answer.
“Your mouth.” He replied innocently.
Someone in the very back of your mind started to wave a big red flag, but on the surface, where an intoxicated version of yourself was laying under the moonlight, you could only laugh.
“Isn’t it a bit distracting?” You asked him, pulling him forward so he would start walking towards the exit of the park.
“Yes, very.” he guaranteed “But I don’t mind.”
Yoongi followed you out of the park, and in a team of two you remembered the way to your home. It was like both of your brains had turned off, the conversation didn’t have to mean anything, you didn’t have to wonder why he was there with you at all.
The clock on your phone said that it was three in the morning, but in your mind time had stopped forever, or at least until next morning. When you turned the corner and reached the end of the street, you knew it was time to say goodbye. But what if you didn’t want to?
You struggled to find your keys, maybe because you were high or maybe because you just didn’t want to remember where the keys were. And when you had to open the door, you leaned against the door frame to say your last words.
You looked at him with hooded eyes, his pink lips were slightly parted, like they were about to say something but they didn’t. In the haze of the moment you thought it looked just like an invitation to kiss him, but of course you wouldn’t. Of course you couldn’t.
What you could do, instead, was prevent him from leaving, at least for a while. Was that allowed? You weren’t in your right mind to answer that question.
You sighed, sleepy, touching the collar of his shirt. “I can’t let you go home like this.” You let out, faster than you could think.
Yoongi scrunched his nose. “It’s fine, it’s just a few blocks away.” He waved off your concern, but his feet were dug deeply on the wood floor of your porch.
“It’s not a few blocks away.” You argued “You live like ten blocks away, and you’re still high…”
“I can manage.” He smirked, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear like it was nothing.
“C’mon, you can stay.” You offered. “My bed is big enough for both of us.”
Your voice came as a whisper, but your words are clearly heard by Yoongi. He scoffed, causing you to start laughing “I didn’t mean that.” You blurted out. trying to correct yourself, but he was already laughing at you.
“What did you mean?” He was curious.
You lightly punched his shoulder. “I meant that… You can stay.” You repeated “Besides… There’s still Simon’s old clothes you can wear to sleep.”
He raised his eyebrows, getting closer to your face, or not, you weren’t sure.
“What would your mom say?” He mumbled, still in denial.
“What?” You chuckled “I’ll tell her the truth. I’ll just say you were too drunk to come back home.”
“That’s not the truth.” He said, booping your nose, but you could barely feel the coldness of his touch.
“Do I really have to tell her that we were high?” You wondered, booping his nose back.
Yoongi smiled, knowing you were right. “I guess not.” He admitted.
“So?” You dared to insist.
“I’ll stay…” He said, putting a finger up. “Under one condition…”
“You want me to tuck you in bed?” You said, laughing at your own joke like it was the funniest thing you had ever said.
Yoongi snorted, covering your mouth with his hand so you wouldn’t keep making loud noises. “No, not that.” He shook his head. “You have to make me breakfast.”
You bit the palm of his hand, making him pull away with a groan. “Is that what your life is worth?” You teased “Breakfast?”
“I’m not gonna die walking ten blocks.”
“What if you enter a bad trip?” You joked “The streets are scary when it’s dark.”
“C’mon, don’t talk about bad trips.” He closed his eyes shut, like he was trying to picture flowers and kittens so he wouldn’t think of something bad.
“God, Yoongi. Are you staying or not?”
He sighed, opening his eyes to display his characteristic gummy smile. “Fine Pinky.” He gave in, “Show me how big your bed is.”

Maybe in another life
Word count: 1.3k Warnings: None ? Summary: Todd meets Neils sister Diane, and convinces the other Poets to have one last meeting so he can introduce her to them. Tags:Dead Poets Society, Neil Perry, Todd Anderson, Charlie Dalton, Knox Overstreet, Gerard Pitts, Steven Meeks, Richard Cameron, AnderPerry Note: THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WRITING AND PUBLISHING A FANFICTION??? HELP ME?? SORRY IF ITS HORRIBLE ?? CONSTRUCTIVE(!) CRITISM IS ALWAYS WELCOME <3
The days following Neil's death were silent, no one knew what to say. Barely a word was spoken between the boys, they had gotten some time off to deal with the news, and prepare for the funeral.
Todd was lying on the now empty right side bed, Neil’s mother had come in the day before to clear out all his stuff and had even told him he could keep something of Neil’s to ‘remember him by’.
Todd had chosen the script of ‘A midsummer night's dream’ and a sweater. A knock sounded on the other side of the door and Todd rose from the bed,
“Come in.” Meeks walked in,
‘‘It’s almost starting, are you ready to go?’’ Todd nodded and followed Meeks out the door and through the corridor. They walked silently, side by side through the halls toward the church next to the school where the service would be held.
They slid into the bench next to Charlie, Knox & Pitts who were already seated, Todd looked around and saw Neil’s parents sitting on the front row, right beside Nolan. The headmaster rose from his seat and stood up on the podium.
“The death of Neil Perry was a tragic accident.” Nolan began,
“Liar.” Todd muttered under his breath.
“He was a fine student, one of Welton’s best, and he will be missed.” Nolan continued, “We have contacted each of your parents to explain the situation. Naturally, all are quite concerned. At the request of Neil’s family, I intend to conduct a thorough inquiry into this matter. Your complete cooperation is expected.”
-
After the service, everyone slowly made their way out to the courtyard. Todd walked behind his friends,
“You guys go ahead, there’s something I need to check on.”
He started towards the cemetery where they had just buried Neil. When he got there he saw there was already another person there, a girl, she couldn’t have been any older than he was.
Todd slowly approached her, and stood a few feet apart from her, looking at Neil’s grave. The girl didn’t seem to notice him at first, as she continued to rearrange the white roses that were placed around Neil’s grave. Todd thought he had seen her before, but he just couldn’t figure out why she looked so familiar.
After she had finished what she was doing, the girl turned her head to look at Todd.
She noticed how heartbroken he looked, how pale his skin was, how red his eyes were from crying.
“Did you know him well?” She asked him, Todd looked up, “Neil, did you know him well?”
“Oh yeah, we were roommates, you?” Todd looked at her, who was it that she reminded him of?
“Yeah, he was my brother.” Todd looked her in the eyes for the first time since they met,
“What?”
He took in her features and realized she looked just like him, hell she could even be him.
“Yeah he is, was, a year and a half older than me.” Todd was staring at her as if she were a ghost.
“You look just like him.”
“Yeah I get that a lot.” She smiled sadly.
“I’m Todd Anderson by the way.” He held out his hand for her to shake, “So you’re that Todd!” She shook his hand,
“I’m Diane Perry.’’
The bell in the tower struck, indicating that dinner was about to be served at Welton. ‘‘I uh
have to go, dinners about to be served.’’
“Todd said.” Diane looked up, “Yeah I should probably make my way back as well. It was nice meeting you.”
Diane started making her way back down the small path that led to the village,
“Wait!” Todd called after her, she turned around, “Do you want to meet the other boys?”
She smiled, “I’d love to.”
“Okay, uh, awesome, meet me back here around 8:30.”
“See you then Todd.” Todd waved and as he made his way back to Welton, he felt that everything might be okay.
Dinner was silent, no one looked at each other. “Guys, meet me at the cave tonight at half past 8?”
Todd suddenly spoke, everyone looked surprised.
“What, are you crazy? Why would we go back there?” Knox spoke,
“Please guys, I have a surprise.”
“I am never going back to that place.” Charlie said.
“Yeah, I’ve got homework to do anyway.” Meeks agreed.
“Come on guys, please. Just one last time.” Todd pleaded, he really needed this to work. “No, and now I don’t want to talk about it anymore!” Knox raised his voice, clearly sounding upset. Todd was starting to lose hope, “For Neil, please.”
Charlie sighed, “What’s this surprise you have for us anyway?”
“Come to the cave tonight and you’ll see.”
“Well it better be good.” Pitts said, getting up from the table and getting his stuff together.
“This is the Last time I will be going back there. Understood?” Knox also got up,
“Great, awesome, don’t forget, half past 8.” The remaining boys all got up and made their way back to their rooms.
-
“What’s taking him so long?” Knox was getting impatient, “It’s 8:45 already!” “Dude relax,” Charlie tried to calm him down, “He’ll be here soon.”
“If he’s not here in 5 minutes I’m leaving.” Pitts decided, Meeks nodding in agreement.
Just then, Todd walked into the cave, “Sorry I’m late guys, had to pick up the surprise.”
“It better be good,” Knox grumbled, still upset. “So where is this surprise anyway?” Charlie asked, just as Diane stepped into the cave.
“She’s right here.”
The boys’ jaws collectively dropped as they looked at the girl before them, the girl who had the Same brown eyes, the Same brown hair, the Same nose, even the same smile as him. No one dared to speak a word. Scared that if they did, she might disappear.
Todd broke the silence by introducing her; “Guys this is Diane, she’s Neils sister.” Diane nodded and Todd continued, “Diane this is Knox, Charlie, Meeks and Pitts. A.K.A the Dead Poets Society.”
“I heard you guys have meetings? Where you read poetry?” Diane looked to Meeks, who seemed quite smart to her, and would probably explain it best.
“Yeah, we take turns reading poetry, some from the greats, some original pieces.” Diane nodded, “I actually have a poem I prepared to read tonight.” Diane cleared her throat, ready to start when Charlie interrupted,
“We’ve got to open the meeting first.”
Pitts agreed, “You can’t just start reading poetry.”
“Well then would someone open the meeting please?” Diane looked around and realized that as soon as she asked the question the cave fell silent.
Pitts had taken a sudden interest to his shoes, Charlie acted as though he had never seen a cave wall before in his life, Meeks felt the need to clean is already clean glasses thoroughly and Todd just stared off into the distance, as if he wasn’t even here.
“He always opened the meetings.” Knox spoke.
“Excuse me?”
“Neil, he always opened our meetings.” Knox got up, “Listen Todd, I don’t know what you’re trying to accomplish by bringing her here. But we’ve all gotta move on.”
“What are you talking about?” Todd got up as well, “I understand you’re just trying to help.” Knox continued; “But you gotta face the reality, Neils dead, we might all be facing expulsion, and Keating is being investigated. I’m sorry, but I’m leaving, I can’t take this anymore.” Knox made his was out the cave,
“Knox! Wait! Come back!” Todd tried to chase after him.
“It’s no use,” Meeks spoke, “he’s gone.”
“He was right though,” Pitts also got up, “We shouldn’t be doing this.” He started making his way out the cave too.
Todd felt all hope he had that afternoon disappear, everything was falling apart.
“I’m sorry Todd.” Charlie looked Todd in the eyes, “Maybe one day we’ll return.” Charlie put on his coat and followed Pitts outside.
“Meeks, please, you can’t leave.” Todd pleaded, feeling his eyes fill up with tears. But Meeks had already gotten up, and was halfway out the cave,
“Goodnight Todd.” RAAAAAAHHHH DO U GUYS LIKE THIS??? DO U WANT A PART TWO????

Maybe I was wrong, maybe you weren't the one I needed all along
Simon "Ghost" Riley X F!Reader John Price X F!Reader
It was cute, knowing you’d grown so attached to the group in such a short amount of time. However when John’s eyes landed on the way Simon seemed so tense, the idea of going out now seemed like a horrible one.
a/n:thank you to everyone who voted for this fic in the poll! please heed the tags are there are some pretty heavy topics in this(Also I know I promised Biker!Price first, and it's in the works! but I got too inspired by this fic) warnings:SIMON IS VERY OOC I KNOW, heavy swearing, fights, mentions of PTSD, flashbacks, Simon being a raging asshole
It had been John’s idea to go out to the pub after their latest mission, he’d insisted that Simon call you and see if you’d like to join. It was a way for everyone to relax, to ease their minds off the horrors they’d had to bear witness to for so long. Simon had begrudgingly called you, offering to pick you up before you denied him and said you’d just get an uber. Johnny was ecstatic that you were coming to hang out, mainly so he could tell you the million and one jokes he had. Kyle kept his cool, claiming he was happy to know you were coming but deep down everyone knew you and Kyle were the best of friends. It was cute, knowing you’d grown so attached to the group in such a short amount of time. However when John’s eyes landed on the way Simon seemed so tense, the idea of going out now seemed like a horrible one.
Simon assured him things were fine, that he just needed some good food and a cold beer to help wash away his worries for the night. You showed up after only a few minutes, a bright smile on your face as you made your way to your favorite group of softies. It didn’t matter how much Simon tried to deny it, deep down he truly was a softy for you.
“Hi! Sorry I’m a little late, traffic was a little backed up.” You scooted into the seat beside Johnny, smiling as he gave you a quick side hug.
“Don’t worry love, we’ve only just got here ourselves anyway.” John smiled over at you, wanting to ease the tension that you seemed to be carrying.
Your eyes twinkled in the dim light, letting him know just how happy you were to truly be there. It meant a lot to him, after dealing with some of the worst conditions he’d ever been in, this was a nice change. He wouldn’t tell you that though, not unless he wanted to make things awkward between the two of you. Simon offered to get everyone drinks, slipping out of the booth before anyone else could speak up. You wrung your hands together nervously, it was a habit you’d picked up after his last deployment. He’d come back with a haunted look in his eyes, something you’d come to expect, but something was different about this one.
“I know we can’t talk about what you boys got up to, so I’ll just ask how everyone’s feeling.” You glanced around at the three men still at the table. Simon most likely would hole himself up in your bedroom at home, hide away until he could come back down to earth.
“Tired, mainly, the flight home took longer than we expected.” Kyle didn’t hold his punches, but he was very obviously hiding something, and that made you nervous.
“Good thing you’re home now, don’t have to worry about it for the night at least.” They were always being called out on deployment at a moment’s notice.
“Quite true.” John ran the tip of his tongue over his bottom lip as Simon placed down four pints, plus a water for you.
You’d made it known to everyone that you didn’t like drinking, mainly because beer tasted in your personal words “like downright piss” so they would make do. Normally they’d buy you a water, or a soda if you preferred that. Sometimes a lemonade if the bar had it on hand, moreso they’d buy you something to eat as an apology. They’d asked how you’d been while they were all gone, you gave the basic rundown that nothing truly exciting happened. It wasn’t until Johnny noticed a bright flashy diamond on your finger.
“Aye, you get engaged?” Johnny was staring down at your hand, brow raised slightly.
“Oh, no, I bought this because of someone at work. Guy was flirting with every single woman and wouldn’t take no for an answer, ended up going to HR cause he followed me to my car one day.” You took a rather large sip of your water, ignoring the way Simon’s eyes were boring into the side of your head.
“Tell me the fucker got fired, I know how to ‘ide a body.” Johnny would do anything to help keep you safe, taking care of a few mishaps would be no problem.
“Yeah, they found out he’d been videotaping women in the restroom, and ended up getting arrested in front of everyone.” You were thankful you’d stopped using that bathroom, unable to get over the sense of unease whenever you went inside.
It was another reminder how terrifying the world could be, and with Simon being away you were scared to leave work in fear he’d end up following you home. Wasn’t much you’d be able to do if he had, not with your boyfriend god knows where for god knows how long. The conversation turned to brighter topics, John steering the conversation towards futbol. You’d tried to keep track of how well the teams were doing, but with work being so hectic it simply slipped your mind. Kyle started on about how excited he was to go and visit his parents, ready to have a home cooked meal and see how his mom was doing.
It eased your mind for the rest of the night, laughing at the terrible jokes that Johnny seemed to save up for your annual visits. You couldn’t contain your laughter as you slapped his shoulder, nearly doubling over onto the wooden table as you tried to catch your breath. This was what you’d been missing, the carefree joy that came with being around everyone. Except, Simon seemed to become even quieter, not even the sound of his breathing could be heard. Had you done something to upset him? Clearly you’d pissed him off or else he wouldn’t be giving you the cold shoulder.
Everyone agreed to head out after one drink, not wanting to get too relaxed lest they end up falling asleep in the booth. After giving everyone a tight hug you headed out to where Simon’s car was parked. His shoulders seemed even more tense, hands balled into fists as he got into the driver's seat. Taking a quick breath you got into the passenger's side, buckling your seatbelt before Simon could take off. His knuckles were white with how harshly he was gripping the steering wheel, eyes glaring down at the road. How could you even broach a conversation when he was this angry?
“Simon?” Your voice was meek, barely anything more than a whisper.
“What?” His voice was harsh, biting into your skin and leaving behind superficial welts.
“Did I say something to upset you?” Your hands were beginning to shake, the last thing you ever wanted to do was upset someone by saying the wrong thing.
“Isn’t that rich, I should be asking if you’d finally found someone to warm the bed while I’m gone making sure you’re safe.” It’d felt as if you’d been slapped, the words cutting deep.
“Excuse me?” There was no way he’d said that to you, even when Simon was beyond angry he was never so hateful before.
“I’m sure your new boy toy got that ring for you, tell me, does he fuck you better than I do? Treat you like a whore since you can’t handle me leaving so often?” Simon barely glanced towards you, eyes hiding a burning rage deep inside.
Your eyes were filled with tears, mouth gaping open as you struggled to figure out how to even reply to what he’d said. How could he sit there and act like you were stepping out on him when you’d always waited for him to come home.
“There is no one else-”
“Don’t fucking lie to me! Do you really think I’m naive enough to believe that you haven’t fucked someone else when I’ve been gone for months, haven’t slipped someone into our bed when I’m deployed?” The car came to a screeching halt, the seatbelt across your chest preventing you from slamming into the dashboard.
Tears were streaming down your cheeks now, who was this man that bore your boyfriend's face, and what had he done with Simon?
“Get the fuck out of my car.” Simon was absolutely seething, refusing so much as to look at you.
“Si, please.” You were ready to beg, it was dangerous to be alone outside at night.
“I said get the fuck out!” His voice was thick with anger, venomous words poisoning your soul slowly.
You weakly unbuckled your seat, hands shaking uncontrollably as you reached for the door handle. His lips pulled into a snarl as you stepped out of the car, slightly thankful for the bright street lamps so you weren’t in total darkness. The sound of tires squealing and dirt kicking up echoed into the night as Simon drove off, leaving you behind. A scream tore through your chest as the realization hit you, Simon had left you. The man who’d loved you so gently left you behind as if you meant nothing to him.
Patting yourself down you swallowed thickly realizing you still had your purse, which meant you had your phone to call for help. Your heart was shattering as you scrolled through the contacts, coming upon the name you were hoping you wouldn’t have had to see so soon.
“Hey hun, miss me already.” Johnny laughed into the receiver, John’s voice in the background telling him to “shut up”.
“Johnny?” Your voice was thick with tears, reaching up to try and wipe them away.
“Sweetheart? What’s going on?” He was suddenly on high alert, you were upset and he was going to find out why.
You broke down once more, unable to get your words out properly for a few seconds before Johnny helped calm you down enough to talk. You told him everything, how Simon had accused you of cheating, how he pulled over to the side of the road and kicked you out of the car. He didn’t even need to ask for the address, having pinged your location from his own phone. You stepped under one of the bright street lamps, illuminating yourself so that he could see you.
Headlights came barreling around the corner not even five minutes later, John slamming on the breaks and throwing himself out of the car to help console you immediately. You cried into his chest, gripping onto the leather coat that he’d been wearing earlier. It smelled of smoke and something sweet that you couldn’t quite place. It did its job in helping bring you back down to earth, head beginning to ache with a headache.
“C’mon, you can stay in my guest room for the night.” John turned you towards his car, helping you into the passenger seat carefully.
Johnny wanted to protest and say that he was supposed to sleep in the guest room but you would always take priority. He wanted to wring Simon’s neck until the other man was blue in the face, how the hell could he do that to you? They were going to keep you safe, no matter what it took you weren’t going to go to bed upset. Sure the mission hadn’t been the easiest to deal with, but they’d all had to deal with the shit they did and yet Simon took it out on you.
“We’ll be here for you sweetheart, promise.” Johnny leaned forward, laying a gentle hand on your shoulder.
“Thank you, it means a lot.” You reached up to lay your hand overtop of his own, eyes catching onto the (very fake)diamond ring on your finger.
Anger courses through you like a raging fire, the reason Simon had called you such horrific things because you’d had to keep yourself safe. What type of man called his girlfriend a whore for not cheating? You grabbed onto the ring, angrily pulling it off and throwing it into your purse. It was a problem for later you to deal with, right now you wanted to slap Simon into next tuesday and make sure he understood how pissed off you were.
Your phone had started to ring in your pocket, reminding you that realistically had you not called Johnny that you’d still be on the side of the road. Had Simon really driven back to see if you were still there, to see if he could continue berating you? You pulled your phone out, seeing the photo of the two of you lighting up the screen. Ignoring the call you held down the power button, waiting until the screen turned black before sliding it back into your pocket. John was completely silent beside you, nothing, save for the streetlamps, lighting up his face. He was terrified when you’d called, afraid something severe had happened and they would be pulling up on a car accident.
In some way he had hoped it had been an accident, that Simon hadn’t completely destroyed you with his words over something so petty. However, when he’d arrived he became enraged that Simon put you into such a vulnerable position. What if someone had grabbed you before they got there, there wasn’t a shortage of enemies that would take the chance to cause pain to Simon. So why put you in harm's way over something so trivial?
“Hey, we’re here.” John waited until Kyle and Johnny got out of the car, wanting to make sure that you were alright.
“Simon started calling me, probably to tell me what a whore I am.” You bit your bottom lip harshly, not wanting to get emotional all over.
“Just ignore him, if he comes by I’ll talk to him outside.” John was going to make sure Simon didn’t say any more hurtful things to you, no matter what.
You nodded at him, slipping out of the car and heading inside with Johnny and Kyle.
John waited until the front door shut, letting out a long sigh. Simon would show up within a few minutes, he knew that Johnny and Kyle were staying with him anyway. Reaching into the glove compartment of his car he grabbed a cigar and lighter. Nothing better to do than smoke and wait for his hot headed lieutenant to show his face. He’d surely be upset that you called his captain to come and get you instead of waiting around. It wasn’t safe for you to walk around during the daytime, why would the night be any safer for you?
It had just hit the five minute mark as Simon angrily pulled into the driveway, stopping only a few feet from Price’s truck. John could only hope that Johnny and Kyle had you far away from the living room, you didn’t need to hear this argument.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Simon was fuming, steam nearly pouring out of his ears as he stomped over to where John stood smoking.
“I picked her up because she was terrified, Simon, did you really think I would make her wait until you decided it was time to pick her up.” He’d been terrified for the few minutes it took to get to you originally, knowing Simon would’ve left you out there even longer?
“That wasn’t your choice to make and you know it.” Simon wanted to barge into his home and make sure you knew exactly who you’d belonged to.
“I think it’s best if she stays here for the night, the two of you need to cool off and barging in like some mad man will terrify her even more.” It was the most logical thing John could think of, had Simon gone into his home Johnny and Kyle would’ve done what they could to protect you.
Simon seemed to think over what he’d said, debating whether or not he should ignore Price and head inside to find you. The last thing he needed was you causing a scene if he managed to get you back in the car, shit.
“Her and I will be talking privately tomorrow, no eavesdroppers.” Simon glanced towards the bay windows, catching both Johnny and Kyle peeking out through the curtains.
John simply nodded, it was better to agree with whatever Simon wanted than to argue with him for who knows how long. He wouldn’t leave you alone with Simon come morning, not if he wanted to lose all trust in you entirely. Simon glared over at him before heading back to his truck, tires squealing as he sped out into the inky darkness that night brought.
Everyone would feel better after a good night’s sleep, emotions were at an all time high and John refused to treat this like he did a deployment. You deserved better than your friends all at one another’s throats like a pack of savages. Stubbing out the cigar John headed inside to see how you and the two trouble makers were doing. The sound of your laughter reached the entryway as he stepped inside, hanging up his coat and slipping off his boots.
“That’s not true and you know it!” You and Johnny were in the midst of an argument, a playful one at that.
“It is too! Gaz back me up here.” Johnny knew the other man would absolutely take your side, it was a constant thing for the three of you.
“Absolutely not, you know I’m taking my favorite girl's side in this one.” Kyle wrapped an arm around your shoulder, pulling you flush to his side.
Johnny feigned offense, though the bright smile on his face clearly gave away his true emotions in that moment. John stepped into the living room after another minute of your banter, making his presence known to all of you. It suddenly dawned on him that you were wearing a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie that were his. It was most likely Johnny that grabbed the clothes for you, wanting to make sure you were comfortable.
“Sorry, was dealing with something outside for a few.” Everyone knew that Simon had shown up, even if, thankfully, you hadn’t heard him.
“It’s okay, I should probably head to bed anyway, been a long night.” Your smile didn’t reach your eyes, something that made John a little more uncomfortable.
“You know which room sweetheart, if you need anything you know where I’ll be.” John nodded as you headed off to bed, waiting with baited breath until the door shut and the sound of the slightly creaky mattress echoed into the air. He needed to discuss things with Kyle and Johnny, but the less you knew at the moment, the better.
The other two were staring at John with hard gazes, it was obvious that things had gone awry and they needed more answers to the million questions they had. Once John was sure that you were asleep, or at least in bed, John told them everything. From the way Simon was ready to head inside and take you like some brute, how he didn’t look like the man he’d known for years. All of them would develop, or possibly even had PTSD, it came with the territory of being in the military but what Simon had done was despicable.
John had gotten a therapist after the first few years, when his dreams were becoming too vivid and the slightest sounds had him drawing his gun. It worked miracles, and since then any person under his command needed to speak with one. Johnny had admitted to him privately that the therapist helped him from ending his life, how he’d been terrified to sleep most nights. Kyle still had nightmares about falling out of the helicopter, nearly dying if it weren’t for the rope tied around his ankle.
“If he shows up before I’m awake, make sure he doesn’t get to her.” It was an order, you wouldn’t be put into another mess because Simon couldn’t keep his emotions in check.
Kyle and Johnny wouldn’t waste a single second if Simon showed up in the morning, they’d barricade the door if it came down to it. John was afraid he wouldn’t be able to sleep as he crawled into bed, his emotions were too high to fully relax. As he lay there staring at his ceiling his eyes began to droop closed, sleep encompassing him like a warm hug. It wasn’t the sun, nor the birds outside of his window that had woken him up. No it was the sound of your screams that had him sprinting from his bed.
When he finally reached the kitchen he was shocked to find you and Johnny making breakfast. From the looks of it Johnny had thrown what looked to be flour at you, not enough to truly make a mess but enough to surprise you. However in his haste John had forgotten to grab a shirt to throw on before surprising you. Your eyes roved over his chest, brow raised in a way he couldn’t quite decipher.
“Aye cap, why don’t you go ahead and put your tits away.” John’s face flushed with Johnny’s words, not something you hear after sprinting to make sure your guests were safe.
“Don’t damn near give me a heart attack next time, please.” John headed back to his bedroom before either of you could say anything.
It suddenly seemed to dawn on him then, Simon would be coming by so that he could talk to you again. He’d simply have to deal with seeing you in John’s clothes, there truly was no way around that at the moment. The sound of the truck rumbling let him know Simon had arrived, and without wasting anymore time he headed outside to intercept him. If he wanted to talk with you, he’d have to talk with him first.
“Simon.” John nodded at the other man, noticing the letter that was tucked carefully in his hands.
“Shepherd called last night, sending me out on another assignment, can ya give this to her?” Simon didn’t look relaxed, no, in fact his shoulders appeared even more tense, eyes darker and harder to read.
John didn’t want to take the letter, to deliver the bad news and tell you that Simon had run off at a moment’s notice. It all felt so disingenuous.
“Alright.” John took the envelope, tucking it into his pocket.
Simon didn’t spare another word as he left, leaving John confused as to what the hell he was going to say when he went inside. ‘Oh by the way Simon left and gave me this letter to give to you, not sure what it says so I’m sorry in advance.’ This was not how his day was supposed to go. Deciding there really wasn’t anything else he could do, John headed inside with the letter tucked away. The smell of bacon filled the air, calming his nerves for a brief second as he stepped into the kitchen.
You’d already made yourself a plate, digging in happily as Johnny plated up the rest of the pancakes and bacon onto their respective plates.
“Simon wanted me to give this to you.” He grabbed the envelope from his pocket, placing it down beside you.
Your heart plummeted, the calm air suddenly vanishing as you stared down at the white paper. What the hell had he said in the letter that he couldn’t bear to say to your face like a normal person? Then again, Simon wasn’t your average man, was he? Swallowing the bite that was in your mouth you grabbed the letter, ripping open the envelope to see what lay inside. You briefly scanned over Simon’s chicken scratch handwriting, heart twisting painfully. He had truly believed you stepped out on him, and instead of telling you things were over in person, he left. The general had called him last night, asking him to head out on another deployment and he’d accepted it so easily. He wanted you gone before he came back home.
Tears were streaming down your cheeks, lip quivering as you suddenly realized that Simon had thrown away logical thinking to accuse you of something so vile. You wanted to scream, to go to your apartment and destroy it the same way he’d destroyed your heart. Except you couldn’t, because it would mean that Simon had won, that his suspicions were correct. It didn’t matter if you knew you hadn’t cheated, it was your word against Simon’s judgment. Shit, where the hell were you going to live? Getting an apartment would be nearly impossible with how high prices were nowadays.
“Lass?” Johnny was nervous, seeing you this upset broke his heart every time.
You could barely get the words out, thrusting your arms towards him that was still holding onto the letter. He took it carefully, reading over the hateful things that Simon had written, how could one man be so cruel? He carefully handed the letter to John before pulling you into his embrace, rubbing a hand up and down your back slowly. You’d need comfort the most right now, and to find a place to live since Simon wanted you out.
“It’ll be alright sweetheart, I promise.” You burrowed yourself into his chest, cheek resting against the dogtags that rested just beside his heart.
“I won’t be able to find an apartment so soon, shit I’m going to be homeless.” Your heart was racing, god this day couldn’t get any worse.
“You’ll stay with me, ‘m not gonna let you become homeless because Simon’s got his head up his arse.” It was a risky move, but your safety became a priority now.
You wanted to protest, to tell John that you could find a place, given the little time that you had at the moment, perfectly fine. However as you began to think about it deeper you truly realized that you would in fact become homeless before finding a proper apartment. Plus the thought of purchasing all the furniture, and appliances again? It was absolutely hell.
“Are you sure? I don’t want to intrude anymore than I already have.” You’d have to pack up all your clothes and any belongings when you had the time.
“It’s no problem sweetheart, I promise.” John’s smile was soft, a reminder that he would do whatever it took to make you happy.
You kept your head against Johnny’s chest, letting him continue to comfort you in the way that he did best. Maybe things wouldn’t be so bad once you got all your stuff out.
~~~~~~~
Nine Months Later~~~~~~~
You hadn’t so much as seen Simon since the horrific breakup, though that was more due to you wanting to heal rather than trying to hide. You’d found a therapist to talk with, a way to unload all of your emotions so they wouldn’t fester like an untreated wound. And it had helped for a while, telling them what you could about Simon and your relationship. Somewhere things had suddenly changed, neither of you were aware the feelings had come into perspective. John was afraid to push things, even if he had feelings for you he wasn’t going to force you. So when you approached him about getting dinner, John couldn’t refuse.
Johnny was the first to find out about your relationship, happy that you’d healed enough to find solace in someone else. No one dared talk about it with Simon around, not unless they wanted to find out how scary he could become. He’d become colder towards everyone, refusing to speak up unless someone else needed something. Last anyone had heard he was seeing someone else, a private if the information Johnny had received was correct. No one told you though, not wanting to remind you of all the bad memories.
In truth you’d found out by accident, needing to bring John some papers he’d left at home after rushing to base that morning. He’d called you in a panic, asking if you’d seen the paperwork he needed to go over. You laughed slightly and offered to bring everything to him, he didn’t hesitate to agree, letting you know he’d meet you when you arrived. You tucked the folder under your arm, sending a quick text to let him know you were there. The sound of Simon’s voice raised goosebumps over your body, except he wasn’t calling for you. No, he was talking to what looked like a new recruit, however you knew better from the look in his eye. Huh, you expected it to hurt more than it did, seeing Simon treat someone the way he’d once treated you.
Maybe seeing him after all these months was what you needed, to remind you that you lived with someone that wasn’t afraid to open himself up to you. You knew why Simon was closed off, having had many late night discussions. And yet after nearly three years he still refused to be the first to initiate any kind of affection. It began to wear on your mind, especially when he’d be gone for months on end with no contact. John didn’t treat you as if you were made of glass, but he also wasn’t a total hardass either. He treated you like a normal person, not afraid to show love when you were in public. It was a nice change, one you’d brought up in therapy when you were afraid to make that leap. Your therapist was supportive of the relationship, encouraging you to pursue it. God, you couldn’t have been happier with him.
“Hey love, sorry for making you wait.” John pressed a soft kiss to your lips, arm wrapping around your waist.
“Mmm, only a couple minutes.” You smiled as he pulled away, holding up the folder to let him know you hadn’t forgotten it.
“Thank you so much, my little life saver right here.” John tucked the folder under his arm, focusing entirely on you.
“It’s what I do.” You giggled softly, pressing another kiss to his lips.
Neither of you were aware that Simon was staring you down, watching the way you’d gotten so close and comfortable with his captain. He couldn’t get angry with you though, not when it was his fault for assuming the worst and breaking off the relationship. It had taken months for him to realize that you were in fact telling the truth. However he wasn’t just going to show up at your apartment and beg for forgiveness, he was better than that. Which is why he was dating someone else in hopes he could finally move on. John though? You’d picked John out of anyone to date.
“I’ll see you at home tonight, make sure to grab a bottle of wine on your way home.” You left with a pep in your step, a bright smile on your face.
John fell more in love with each day that passed, even when Johnny would(jokingly)tease him about it. You were the woman for him, and he was going to make sure you never doubted the love he had for you. Which was why he had the ring hidden in his desk here at the base, no reason for you to be snooping where he worked. He could feel Simon’s gaze boring into the side of his head, if looks could kill. This wasn’t about them though, you’d moved on with your life as did he, and in turn you and John were together.
There was nothing he would do to change any of it.
“congratulations, i guess”
jack hughes x reader
ok so i made this at like 2 am? so i deeply apologize if this makes no sense 😭
🦋 BORDYSBAE’S 500 CELLY!
— ୨୧ —
as you walk across the stage, you grab your diploma and look out at the crowd. your parents are cheering, with the hughes family cheering just as loudly next to them. the hughes have always been a second family to you. your mom was best friends with ellen throughout middle and highschool, and she even helped your parents get together, since your father and jim were friends from college.
despite being the only girl in the mix, you also fall into the place of second to youngest. you’re right in between jack and luke, which sucks. you’ve always been closest with jack though, you guys used to be best friends. until you left for college and he left for jersey. as soon as he left for new jersey, he’d stopped putting in as much effort towards the friendship. him ghosting you hurt so badly because you’ve always had a slight thing for him. honestly, everyone always thought you two were bound to get married, but that’s until the friendship burnt out.
seeing jack clapping for you in the crowd makes you smile even harder. eventually the ceremony comes to an end, and as you say goodbye to your friends, you spot the two families waiting for you. you hurrying over as fast as you can and embrace luke in a big hug first.
“congrats y/n/n! i cant believe you graduated already!” luke says, swaying you both side to side. “oh thank you lukey! i’ve missed you!” you exclaim as you release the hug. you then make your way over to quinn, who greets you with another tight hug. “congrats kid, we’re all proud of you,” quinn smiles down at you. “thank you quinny. im glad you could make it,” you smile.
you then hug your parents, jim, ellen, and lastly jack. his arms loosely wrap around your body, and his hug is nowhere near the same as anyone else’s. it’s both awkward and weak, it honestly pains your heart, but you’re glad he showed up anyways.
“congratulations, i guess,” he slightly teases, trying to ease the awkwardness. it’s been nearly a year since you last saw jack, and even then there was still awkward tension between you both.
“thanks for coming, jack. i’m glad you came all the way up here from new jersey,” you smile, fidgeting with the ends of your gown sleeves.
“don’t feel special that i’m here, my mom made me come,” he rolls his eyes swimming jokingly.
“mhm sure jacky,” you chuckle, but immediately realize the slip up you’d just had. that nickname lingered from seventh grade till your senior year of highschool, and it’s been years since you’ve said it. it’s easy to tell that you’re both a little shocked at hearing the nickname again, but his tense muscles loosen a little, “no but seriously, i’m proud of you y/n. and i’m sorry for everything.”
“it’s alright jack, seriously. we’ve both been so busy, and we live no where near each other. we were bond to fall out a little bit, but never again, okay?”
“never ever,” he smiles, sticking out his pinky for your guys’ pinky promise that you used to do as children. your pinkies interlock, and you kiss your thumbs as part of the tradition. jack pulls you into a tighter hug this time, and it feels more natural. as your arms are wrapped around his built body, he whispers something in your ear you’ve never expected to hear. “i love you, y/n. as more than a best friend. and i’m so so proud of you.”
Do you have any ineffable husbands human aus where they're angsty with a happy ending?
Here are some angst with a happy ending human aus...
Upon This Rock by Eowyn1846 (M)
Crowley and Aziraphale meet as teenagers participating in a youth curling league. Years after losing touch when Crowley's family moves away, the two former friends are reunited at a major tournament...as competitors on two very cut-throat teams, whose captains seem willing to win at any cost, even to the detriment of the sport.
What the World Gives by Adzeisval (T)
Being a teenager is hard Aziraphale Fell feels out of place among his peers and has difficulties making friends. He is terrified that if his parents realize he is gay they will kick him out. Anthony Crowley is a new student hoping to fit in and hoping his medical issues don't make themselves known. Sometimes the world can be harsh, but sometimes one lucks out and has someone by their side.
Our Lost Time by Izabella95 & UnproblematicMe (E)
Aziraphale Crowley awakes in the hospital after an almost fatal accident. But he is lucky and gets away alive and without permanent injuries. The close call sets things into perspective and he wants to fix his strained marriage. His husband, Anthony Crowley - who simply goes by "Crowley" - takes good care of Aziraphale after the accident, but there seems to be an invisible barrier between the spouses. Can Aziraphale save his relationship? What secrets does Crowley keep?
Heaven (Is a Place on Earth) by soft_october (M)
“I’m just sneaking a break from the festivities, as it were.” Crowley twists his hand in a gesture meant to sum up the circumstances which led him here. “I haven’t taken up residency in the back of a bookshop in the middle of paradise.” “Ah, well, we clearly disagree over what, precisely, paradise might mean.” Aziraphale's eyes are sharp, and through that initial mask of annoyance, a small smile is curling. Crowley came to Lower Tadfield, the UKs version of San Junipero, to have a good time, try out the software, step out of his old and failing body into the magic of a virtual world with no consequences. At least that's what he had planned, until one night he stumbles into a bookshop and meets a buttoned up, blue eyed wonder with pale curls and a perfect smile.
A streetcar named desire by elf_on_the_shelf (E)
Crowley is trying his absolute best - even if that ain't all that grand - to please Morgan & Partners in his role as Chief Architect on their new development. Too bad that this development in particular is on the very same site that the City Council wants to build a light rail network on and, even though Crowley hates everyone involved, can he hate the angelic person who is in charge of the whole project?
The Ghost of Husbands Past by A_N_D (E)
Az always knew that he’d be thrown out the moment his father found out he was gay. He hadn’t expected to be declared dead though - or for his husband to believe it! But their marriage had been a foolish teenage impulse (not to mention invalid in America), so when Az moved to a small town far upstate New York to start his new life, he moved alone. The kindest thing he could do was let Crowley mourn and move on, not be shackled for life to a now disabled partner. Tony Crowley never recovered from losing his best friend, his childhood sweetheart, his better half. He’d been drifting ever since; no plans, no hope, no money - and now, just before Thanksgiving, no job either. Given the stark choice of freezing to death or accepting his sister’s invitation to join her upstate, Tony reluctantly lives out the Hallmark cliche of Recently Unemployed Person Moves to Small Town for Christmas. It’s a time of hope, love, and family. It’s time for Az and Tony to find each other again.
