If there was an award for watching Arcane start to finish the most times, I'd win, hands down. No contest. And I'll maintain that title till the day I die, swear to God.

🎃 I've been wanting to redraw this official art since halloween last year! (Had it in my tabs for over a year to boot) and I finally did it. A few days late but there you go. I've obviously taken some liberties but ya know if I'm gonna redraw it I get to do it how I want.

As much as I want Roy and Riza to spearhead the restoration of Ishval post-canon, I want Roy to be barred from going to Ishval to do the work himself even more.
Hear me out.
There is something incredibly selfish about Roy wanting to be the one to return the Holy Land to the Ishvalen people. It makes sense for him to strive for that goal - he feels personally responsible for the destruction of Ishval, he sees its restoration as part of his path towards becoming the Führer of Amestris, he considers it to be the rightful way to ease some of the guilt weighing him down.
It is also the easy way out.
Because if you think about it, Roy being the one to do all that, is not a narrative that centers the Ishvalen people. And I think they deserve to be the driving force behind their own salvation.
There is a reason General Armstrong doesn't try to take on the Ishvalen restoration at the end of the show - and it is not just that she has no personal investment in the matter. No, if anything, she entrusts it to Major Miles. She entrusts the future of the Ishvalen people with a man who shares their past.
(her blind trust into the military state be damned)
And who does Miles choose to help him rebuild what was once lost? Scar. He chooses the feared serial killer. The Savior of Amestris. The Scarred Monk. The One Who Killed A King. The Hand of God Striking Down a Monster.
He chooses someone who suffered through the Ishvalen genocide, who was raised not only in the culture, but was an active practitioner of the most common religion of the region.
These are the people who rebuild Ishval for the future.
I think Roy would only ever do it to escape the past.
And if we're being honest, I don't think anyone in Ishval would greet him with open arms. These people might hold a great ability to forgive within their hearts, but I think many of them would consider it an insult to let the man who burned down their cities back into Ishval to become their savior.
To become the public face of the restoration of their Holy Land.
And being denied the ability to spearhead this campaign, it would hit Roy hard. Because in a way, hard labor and the arid desert air, would have felt like a just punishment. Being hollered at by the survivors of the genocide he participated in would have felt good. Getting blisters and sunburns and swallow down his own spit... pain was always a sign of hard work. Of doing the right thing.
But forcing him to stay in Central? To pull the ropes behind the scenes? To be denied this public repentance? To be kept from the most straight-forward way of repaying his sins?
The restoration of Ishval was never the end-goal, and it is just one part of a long list of things both Roy and Riza want to fix before facing a trial, but I think Roy hoped he could pay for that in blood. Cut-up knees and burned hands, dry throats and countless hours spent digging up wells.
But facing up to what he's done isn't that easy - and the people of Ishval deserve to live a life free from Roy Mustang and his damned flames.

considering. alternate fmab ending where ed doesn't get his arm back and after he quits the military he switches to a regular leg prosthesis and no arm prosthesis. his automail was always chosen because it let him be useful and effective in the context of becoming a dog of the military, and i think switching to a less painful/intrusive combination of mobility aids (one that doesn't stunt his growth and give him nerve pain) is a fitting symbol of him giving up the lifestyle that necessitated automail in the first place.

Given how common the ridiculous "mangahood Ed depicted as an anarchist" fanart and fan interpretations are, it really blows me away how your average mangahood fan disavows Scar's serial killing of fascist pigs and genociders. Sorry but anarchism aligns far more with rooting out the fash and the pigs via direct violence than it does with being a military fed who helps install a new government.
Y'all are a bunch of politically illiterate libs.

💜 and 💖 please!!!
Happy Monday~
Thank you for sending one of these! I'm going to try to be nicies even when I'm talking about my Hater Tendencies <:]
💜: Which character is way hotter than everyone else seems to think?
My obvious answer is Riza, like, sure, most people would agree that she's pretty or conventionally attractive but I don't think she has NEARLY as many simps as she deserves.
My less obvious answer is -inhales very loudly and dramatically- BREDA!!!! People are usually too busy being shitty about fat people to even realize that he's probably stronger than Armstrong (in a practical sense: strongmen and bodybuilders have incredibly different physiques and Breda is BUILT) and is super smart and would treat you right. I bet he has a fat hog too just saying WHAT who said that
💖: What is your biggest unpopular opinion about the series?
Ohh boy. FMAB is the worst iteration of FMA as a whole. People do not like when I say this because they think that I mean to say that it's bad and, no; as far as shonen anime goes it's GOOD! But it's still the weakest iteration. FMAB was never meant to be "THE definitive way to experience fma" like people treat it to be and it shows. The pacing was weird because it a) assumed you watched FMA03 already and b) was on a time crunch to sync up with the end of the manga, which is understandable but a huge detriment to it 10 years later. Easily should have had another season. Also imo it's ugly (especially in the earlier seasons) and I wish they had waited to product it until like 2013 or went with a different studio than Bones. 😔 If you LIKED FMAB I will beg and plead with you to read the manga because it's not very long, you can find it on MangaDex, and you will be surprised seeing what was changed or cut out entirely. You don't have to... but, I dunno, I've just never personally understood the mentality of "omg this is my favorite anime!!!! but I WON'T read the manga"....
I know there will be people pointing out my FMA03 bias, when some people would rank it lower than FMAB, but I would at least argue that FMA03 has it's own merit by having it's own identity that is uniquely it--if you want FMA03, you have to watch FMA03. For the "mangahood" canon, FMAB and the manga do the same thing, but the manga obviously does it better.
Obligatory disclaimer: You're very normal if you love FMAB. You're not a bad person and you don't have bad taste

Okay so y’all know this scene from FMAB?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Where Mustang goes BALLISTIC after Envy wears his dead bestfriend’s face? “Maes Hughes is dead. That’s a fact. And you invoke his image? You must be a glutton for punishment.”
That but with the squadmate who dies on Virmire.
Either they get nabbed before the bomb goes off on Virmire and indoctrinated OR another Cerberus clone situation.
Either way, I need someone puppeting around their corpse in a vain attempt to fuck with Shepard and the survivor.

it's 2023 and i'm still bitter about how kuroshitsuji, a complex slow burn mystery manga, got absolutely massacred by its shitty semi-episodic shota/fujobait anime adaptation
#like yeah the manga could be a bit questionable in the earlier parts (cough corset scene cough comedic relief grelle + soma & agni cough)#but almost all of that got retconned once yana toboso was allowed to have more creative freedom over her work#(and her editor's interference is something we Know had a p drastic effect on the series bc it Literally Gave Us Grelle (toboso wanted to#have a female jack the ripper but her editor said that if she did then she would've had to be working w a man. so in response toboso#decided that madam red's partner in crime would be as effeminate as possible so grelle was created in the vein of buffalo bill and then#only in her next appearance a few arcs later when the book of murder arc was over and done with was she acknowledged to be a trans woman#not the best situation for girlie overall but the manga started treating her much better over time + she slayed)#but the anime was on a whole different level s1 Literally ended while teasing a kiss between a grown adult and a 12 year old#and then s2 just made up random bullshit including a brand new 14 year old to ship bait w adults#and it doesn't help that whenever the series comes up everyone in the surrounding area becomes 50x more susceptible to false info#(see: undertaker's real name being shared around on an image that's literally watermarked by a TUMBLR HEADCANONS BLOG)#so there's a p decent subset of ppl who believe it was originally meant to be a yaoi (rumor that began from the same hc blog)#or that yana toboso is a shotacon (pr.osh.ippers on twt made that one up to try and win arguments)#i want the series to get the fmab treatment w a shiny new anime made by some1 other than a-1 pictures#bc we've seen what happens when they try and adapt the arcs that came out after they committed to the random bullshit plots of s1-2#in the form of the book of murder circus & atlantic ovas. which are excessively plain and just streamlined disconnected and heartless#renditions of the manga arcs which will make no sense to anyone who hasn't already read it. they're like ufotable's fate route ova but at#least that has higher production values and is somewhat visually interesting#romeo.txt

I didn't need to have been previously familiar with Brotherhood's story to immediately understand that McDougal was correct for directly attacking Central. Seeing him go up against all the primary and secondary state alchemists as a means of introducing the protagonists (our "morally upright" leads) even though he was absolutely correct for identifying the locus of power of the nation as an oppressive force that must be destroyed was a harbinger for the reformist pro-state, pro-military bullshit that acts as the bedrock of Brotherhood's entire story.

The reason why hxh is good is because it has kurapika and gon and killua and leorio and the reason why fma is good because it has an intricate plot that comes together perfectly and an atheist man that met god and hates most other men
