If you've been here for a while you know Beauty and the Beast is far from my favorite Disney movie. I never want to watch it. I hate the beast. 🖤 But damn, am I loving this book. It's a Beauty and the Beast retelling - but it's different from the Disney version in all the best ways. It's been a hard week over here and listening to this book as I run down my to-do list has been such a treat. I feel so connected to these characters and they're giving all the forking feels right now. I'm 3/4 of the way through and I'm tearing up packing for Jersey. I had to pause and put on Tswifts this love on repeat and come over here and talk to you about it. - - I'm so So happy this is our December Booksplosion pick (this month we're working with @bloomsburypublishing ) We'll be discussing it during the first half of our Liveshow at 7pm ET on Friday. The second half will be a 2019 book superlative party 🖤 I hope you join us!and I hope your week hasn't been too stressful. Also I hope you enjoy star wars tonight! I'm headed to a 7pm show 😊 #bookstagram #reading #books #bookclub #beautyandthebeast #bestbooksof2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/B6RXb6nFVeX/?igshid=1wk8z8s33v52p

In 2019, I had the incredible honour of reading a dear friend’s debut novel and it easily became one of the most wonderful stories I have ever read and one of the best books I’ve read this year. It’s a tale of strength and beauty and imagination and was a remarkable reminder of the power of storytelling. Seeing myself in the characters and experiencing my culture through the magically created universe and inspiring fantasy elements and the gloriously scrumptious food was such an emotional experience for me. I’ve read it numerous times since it’s release and I shall cherish this for as long as I’m a living, breathing human coffee bean. ❤️ . . . . @nafizaaz #bookstagram #diversebooks #ownvoices #weneeddiversebooks #yafantasybooks #booksof2019 #bestbooksof2019 #youngadultbooks #youngadultfiction #beautifulbooks #bibliophilelife #bookworm #muslimshelfspace #bookphoto #booktography #bookaholic #bookish #booklover #booknerd #newbooks #bookgram #booklr #fantasybooks https://www.instagram.com/p/B6oqDVpgsmG/?igshid=1qwcmx004dxih

🌻 Lucie’s 2019 in Review 🌻
Hi, I’m Lucie and last year I made my resolution to read 52 books in 2019. I’ve always enjoyed reading, but during university I fell out of practice reading for fun. I’m happy to say I’ve recently surpassed my goal. ✨
My favourite reads of 2019 were:
📚One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez
To begin with the repetitive family names caused confusion, but the sheer time span the book covers is incredible and the payoff is completely worth the early confusion. There are definite moments of sheer bewilderment, and the dread of never being able to escape one's history lingers.
📚DOOM PATROL Vol. 1: Brick by Brick by Gerard Way and Nick Derington
Introduced to graphic novels by The Umbrella Academy also by Way with Gabriel Ba, I ventured out to other titles for the first time this year. The craziness of the Doom Patrol world and the gradual introduction of the team made this a fun way to be brought into the storyline and the artwork is amazing.
📚The Good Immigrant by Nikesh Shukla
A collection of essays by BAME authors illustrating the way immigration has affected their lives in the UK. I had seen this book recommended a few places, and glad I made the decision to pick it up this year. At times funny, at others eye opening, it has encouraged me to pick up more essay collections in the future.

My best horror book of 2019 is without a doubt #WilderGirls by @itsrorypower 💀 . . . If you like #Gore #BodyHorror #Horror this is the book for you. It's so good, and so intensely creepy. I was on the edge of my seat and grinding my teeth. I could not get through it fast enough. 🦇 . . . A lot of people are saying The Grace Year is terrifying, or The Bone Houses, The Tenth Girl, but Im here to say if you want to crawl out of your skin, this is the book to read. 😱 . . . #YoungAdult2019 #Bestof2019 #BestYABooksof2019 #BestBooksof2019 #Thriller #Fiction #IReadYA #BooksofInstagram #Bookstagrammer #Bookstagram #ReadersofInstagram #ReaderLife #BookReviewer #BookReview #BookObsessed #Bookaholic #Books #Readergram #ReadBooks https://www.instagram.com/p/B44QeLrAiiN/?igshid=gu0b87g1sbmw

В этом году я прочитала много книг R.S. Grey. ⠀ #cf_rsg #bestbookoftheyear #bestbooksof2019 #rsgrey #makemebad #thefoxeandthehound #thefoxethehound #cf_2019book #прочитано https://www.instagram.com/p/B6qGqNwHyZV/?utm_medium=tumblr

“But we must tell our stories, and not be ensnared by them.” Ta-Nehisi Coates's historical fantasy novel The Water Dancer is a slowly and painstakingly woven narrative of resilience and persistence in the face of one of human history's most horrific episodes. Set against the backdrop of the rumblings of the American Civil War, the novel’s young black protagonist Hiram learns that he has the power of "conduction", a power shared by Harriet Tubman herself, which enables them to “fold the earth like fabric” and transport or "conduct" themselves and other people over great distances. However, to be able to access his power, he needs to access a powerful emotional memory, that of his mother, the one person he has no memory of, despite his otherwise superhuman mnemonic abilities. Memory, storytelling and the strength of a found family are important running themes in the novel, and become powerful tools in the hands of the “Tasked” in their path to freedom from the Task or enslavement. The magic of the world that Coates has constructed is also dependent on these very powerful emotions. As part of the theme of memory and community, the novel pushes for the idea that there is strength in the collective in overcoming memory as a burden and turning it into a tool of emancipation. The insistence on the value of found family, a family you choose for yourself, regardless of blood ties (and often, as in the case of Hiram, despite blood ties) becomes an act of resistance in the face of the fear and mistrust of love and attachment that the conditions of slavery would try to enforce on its victims. Another important theme in the novel is that of the relationship between water, memory and community. This speaks to broader themes relating to water and Atlantic slavery that I will explore in a future post. 5/5 🌟& full review on #goodreads (link in bio) Cover art: Calida Garcia Rawles #tanehisicoates #thewaterdancer #historicalfiction #slavenarratives #historyofslavery #atlanticslavetrade #middlepassage #harriettubman #blackhistory #blackliterature #bookstagramusa #bookrecommendations #bookstagram #foundfamily #fantasygenre #magicrealism #fivestarread #bestbooksof2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/CRSISJKrFY0/?utm_medium=tumblr

10 Most Anticipated Books Of 2019 That Every Book Nerd Must Read
With books of authors like Toni Morrison, Arundhati Roy and Margaret Atwood coming out in 2019, the year 2019 is expected to be major for readers of literature.
Here are some of our most anticipated books to look out for in the year 2019:
1) An Orchestra of Minorities by Chigozie Obioma
Chigozie Obioma’s book takes a “contemporary twist on Homer’s Odyssey, in the mythic style of the Igbo literary tradition,” the author weaves a “heart- wrenching epic about the tension between destiny and determination.” The story revolves around Chinonso, a poultry farm owner who, in an attempt to save Ndali from committing suicide, falls in love with her.
The lovers are met with rejection as the girl belongs to a wealthy family and Chinonso is uneducated. Determined to be united with his lover he sells most of his possessions in order to seek education but soon discovers that all is not what it seems. The best book to learn about life is coming out this year.
Publishing Date: January 2019.
2) The Forest of Enchantments by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
The novel is a retelling of the epic Ramayana from the perspective of Sita, exploring her tale of love and tragedy. The author has done a great job in the past with her book, ‘A Palace of Illusion’ based on Mahabharata but written through the perspective of Draupadi.
The Forest of Enchantments also focuses on other major and minor female characters of Ramayana giving it a feminist approach. This is one of the best books to read this year and explore the depths of mythology.
Publishing Date: January 2019

Welcome to 2020, book friends. Ringing in the new year with my favorite read of 2019: The Worst Kind of Want by @liskab. This book is so beautifully written, heartbreaking, and lovely. I think about that last line all the time. And that’s Velvet Decade. One of my all time favorite lipstick formulas in one of my favorite shades. Perfect for Cilla, for ushering in the Reading 20s, and for every lipstick lover ever. There are so many great books coming out this year. Hello! I’ve settled on my favorite reads of 2019. I’ve had a great reading year reading 52 books. It was rather hard to dwindle these books down to 10, but here are my favorites. If I were ranking these books, Dark Age by Pierce Brown would be my #1 book of the year. The follow-up to 2018’s Iron Gold, this story continues the journey and circumstances Darrow has found himself in. It is action packed. There was a shocker that I was not expecting to happen, but I’m so glad it did. I laughed, I cried, I got excited and nervous. When I got to the last page I couldn’t stop myself from smiling. Other Faves in no particular order: - Red White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston - Me Before You by Jojo Moyes - Monday’s Not Coming by Tiffany D. Jackson - The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman - On the Come Up by Angie Thomas - Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo - Circe by Madeline Miller - Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid - The Poppy War by R.F.
