Ain’t been over here in so long - WHEW!
But check THIS out:

My latest book, available from Daraja Press! Holla @ me!
“A society born of white supremacy and patriarchy must, by definition, ignore the voices of Black women. We know that unfortunately, such an attitude will also naturally seep into every stratum of that society.”
“Part of the contribution to correct that was the centering and airing of Black women’s voices through Some of Us Are Brave: A Black Women’s Radio Program that aired on Pacifica’s Los Angeles radio station (KPFK) from 2003 until 2011.”
“The program covered a myriad of issues by amplifying the voices of a broad cross-section of Black women. Some of those voices have been preserved here in this volume. In addition to capturing various moments in time with a variety of women, this is also a means of taking the intellectual production of and about Black women out of the hands of institutions that are both fundamentally anti-Black and anti-woman.”

2. How does one decide on a genre?
The answer is perspective. How do you see the world? Which lens do you wear? Do you perceive the world as a crime spot or a romantic world? As a fantasy domain or a spiritual plane? The perspectives are built through experiences. Your experiences decide your lenses (perspectives) and your lenses will help you choose your genre.
There is a world to see in whichever lens you wear. No competition.

Sippin' Tea; Wasting Time...
My Dearest Readers,
It has truly been far too long. Life, once again, has seemed to sweep me up in its tornado of day-to-day life. My son is 4 now, so that should tell you how long it's been since we last spoke.
So, I'm sure you're wondering whats new. Well, not too much. It seems as though, based on my last post, over a year ago, I come running back to y'all when things are in crisis. Well, maybe "crisis" is too gloom-n-doom of a word. However, if I'm being transparent, things aren't necessarily where I'd like them to be.
I've decided to take my writing career more seriously. Which is a good thing. I recently purchased a new laptop to do so. Don't get me wrong, I love my journals, but a laptop seems more "with the times." It seems I'm getting side tracked, or dancing around the issue.... I'm currently not working because, quite honestly, I have NO IDEA what I want to do with the rest of my life.
I feel like I'm having another quarter life crisis. There's that word again. Crisis. What even is that? Anyway..... I spent all that time in school getting my Doctorate and have LITERALLY NO CLUE WHAT I WANT TO DO. Don't get me wrong, I understand you need to stick with what sticks with you, and the field of Education has done that. However, I'm having trouble finding my groove.
I guess previous work experiences from years ago have really created a sense of hesitation regarding giving another place of employment "my all." Maybe I simply don't want to work "for the man." Whatever that may be.
As I'm sure we all know, IT'S HARD OUT HERE! So, I try to give myself as much Grace as possible. Yet, I remain my own worst enemy. As I'm sure, again, we all can be. But, I make sure to thank my Higher Power for every day given.
I guess I just wanted to check in real quick and say that I really really REALLY am going to make this a regular thing. I love this blog and it's time to get back to the things that make me happy.
I hope you all are reaching for the stars and whatever else is beyond.
Love always,
SamDel

BLACK HISTORY MONTH QUOTE 8
Wednesday, February 14, 2024
“In religious terms, each time the oppressed chooses to forgive the oppressor, each time, on those rare occasions, they find themselves having a modicum of power over them and offering them mercy instead of vengeance, might be interpreted as an act of mercy in favor of the oppressor. Black history is replete with these instances.” – Farah Jasmine Griffin, Read Until You Understand: The Profound Wisdom of Black Life and Literature

📚The Source of Self-Regard by Toni Morrison🌟 How do I capture Morrison’s essence? This space, these words, this alphabet isn’t enough. Gilt-edged letters, written over reams of crushed petals, trimmed with Chantilly lace, sparkling with wit and wisdom commensurate to Morrison’s art- that may just attempt to do justice to her writings. But we have that not and so we make do with this. A collection of her essays, speeches and interviews, this book offers a peek into the mind of this ex-editor of Random House who’d wake up at 4 am to write her first book. While every essay from Morrison’s pen is worth its weight in gold, ‘The Source of Self Regard’, ‘Faulkner & Women’, ‘The Writer Before The Page’ & ‘Cinderlla’s Stepsisters’ turned out to be my favourites. Will you allow me to share a couple of my favourite bits? “Finally she speaks and her voice is soft and stern. “I don't know", she says. “I don't know whether the bird you are holding is dead or alive, but what I do now is that it is in your hands. It is in your hands.” There is authority in her prose- the kind that expects better of itself and of you. She isn’t patronising, nor condescending- instead she shares her thoughts, offers them up for rumination, often being the hand that leads you up a better path of thinking. I found her political writings a bit dense for my taste. I am culpable there. Was I too eager to devour her work or was it that each sentence led me to think hard and thus provided a challenge that I could not rise up to? I’ll revisit that section and know for sure. Morrison’s ‘The Nobel Lecture in Literature’ was an ABSOLUTE treat. If the whole collection isn’t possible right now, read that today. Read it today, yes I insist. I leave you with my favourite Morrison quote- “We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language. That may be the measure of our lives.” Till next time… #tonimorrison #thesourceofselfregard #beloved #nonfictionbooks #essaycollection #blackliterature (at Delhi, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc6_TMHLDiv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
