Logan with a reader who loves to cook for him?? I’m from the south and food is a love letter here!! 😤 deer steak, peach cobbler, biscuits and gravy!!!
Need to fatten him up before the Canadian winter gets to him 🥺 come home Logan your dinners gettin cold
Tumblr media
~~~Wonderful request gorgeous!!!! Had my stomach grumbling while I was writing it. I hope you enjoy it and that this is at least somewhere along the lines of what you were looking for!! This was the only photo of Logan I could find where he’s eating~~~
~~~On a separate note, I'm sorry I've been away for a bit y'all I've been having a rough time, my nana passed away recently so I've been struggling with that. I may be posting less frequently for a while, hope y'all understand. But I did wanna get back into writing and I feel this is the perfect request to write to make my return. My nana was always making that good Southern food for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Her collard greens had to be the best I've ever had in my life, her broccoli casserole, mac and cheese, biscuits the whole shebang. She always had me in the kitchen with her insisting I learn how to make everything so I could carry on her recipes so when I saw this request I knew I had to pull out her recipe book. I know she'd also want me to go back to writing cause she loved Wolverine. She never got to see Deadpool and Wolverine but I showed her the clip where Hugh's shirt explodes and she went WOWIE! and watched it at least 10 times so I feel this is a good way to honor her memory, she'd want me to be thinking about Hugh Jackman. Nana this one is for you I love you.~~~
~~~Mostly fluff, implied oral at the end but nothing is explicitly written, also mostly unedited cause it's just a quick little thing~~~
I focus on my Nana's broccoli casserole recipe in front of me, carefully mixing the blend of cream of mushroom soup, eggs, onions and mayonnaise in a bowl until it’s thick and creamy. I pull the bag of broccoli florets out of the freezer and add them to the mixture taking care to make sure they’re thoroughly coated. I take some of the cheddar cheese shreds and sprinkle it into the bowl stirring it in thoroughly before pouring the ingredients into a dish. I take extra care in sprinkling whatever shredded cheese I have left on the top of the casserole. I read from my Nana's recipe, crumbling up a few packets of Ritz crackers, and sprinkling the crumbs along the top of the casserole alongside the shredded cheese, just as she taught me when I was little. I grab my oven mitts opening the oven door, gripping the casserole dish tightly in my hands, slipping it into the oven. I set the oven timer to 45 minutes, pulling my oven mitts off. I turn my attention back to the pots on the stove, lifting up the lids to check on my collard greens and mashed potatoes. As soon as I lift the lids up the sweet aroma of a home-cooked meal fills the kitchen. A smile making its way onto my face. I begin clearing the table setting up the placemats and getting the plates and silverware ready. I jump slightly as the front door opens and closes, Logan's voice wafting through the air. “Darlin I’m home!” He calls out and I grin as I hear his voice, I poke my head out of the kitchen and I sight watch him kicking off his shoes at the front door. He looks up catching sight of me and I watch him take a deep breath inhaling the smell of my cooking. “Something smells delicious” He chuckles taking a few steps towards me, I step out of the kitchen, meeting him halfway and his eyes roam my figure hungrily taking in the sight of me in my apron. “And something else looks delicious” He chuckles wrapping his arms around me.
“Hi baby” I grin, giggling as he nuzzles his nose against the top of my head, “have a good day?” I ask softly, and he grunts running his hands through my hair and kissing the top of my head.
“Better now I’m with you” He chuckles gruffly holding me tighter and I smile, “So whatcha got cooking for me” he pulls away slightly, his hand cupping my face, tucking my hair behind my ear, his other hand finding its place on my lower back.
“Hmm, some broccoli casserole, mashed potatoes, collard greens…” I grin looking up at him, fingers lightly tracing shapes on his chest. He groans, his lips falling down to mine in a passionate kiss.
“Oh darlin you treat me so well” He chuckles, his lips falling from mine, ghosting along my jaw where he presses light kisses against it. His lips kiss down my neck and I let my head fall back slowly as he nips gently at the skin of my collarbone “Always cooking delicious meals f’me” he groans lightly, burying his nose in the crook of my neck inhaling deeply.
“Well you take such good care of me, only fair I take care of you too” I giggle.
“And you do it wonderfully” he grins, tightening his hold on me, I wrap my arms around his neck. “I appreciate everything you do for me" He kisses me, murmuring against my lips "lemme show you how much” He kisses me again, his hands leaving my lower back to palm at the fat of my thighs, massaging the skin rhythmically. I giggle leaning into his touch, closing my eyes only to have them spring open at the sound of the oven alarm going off I chuckle lightly as he groans loudly at the interruption. Keeping his forehead pressed against mine.
“Baby as much as I’d love that,  I gotta go check on the food… can’t let it burn” I say softly pushing lightly against his chest and he grumbles reluctantly letting me go.
“Fine fine, just so all your hard work doesn’t go to waste” He grumbles and I smile patting his cheek lightly, weaseling out of his arms and walking back into the kitchen. He trails after me sniffing the air, humming quietly to himself. I grab a pair of oven mitts, opening the oven taking the food out putting the dish on the kitchen counter. I turn the stovetop off stirring the collard greens and mashed potatoes one last time before grabbing two plates gently scooping a large portion of food onto Logan's plate. Repeating the process and scooping a slightly smaller portion onto mine. I hand the plates over to Logan who sets them down on the table pulling my chair out for me.
“Thanks honey” I grin and he pushes my chair in when I sit down, he grins at me slyly pouring me a glass of wine. Pouring another for himself before settling himself in the chair on the opposite side of the table. I take a small bite of each food giving it a small taste test, while Logan across the table digs in like a man starved, practically scarfing down his food. I chuckle lightly sipping my glass of wine.
“Oh baby you outdid yourself” He mumbles through a mouthful of food, making me laugh. “Absolutely delicious” He compliments and I smile.
“Used Nana’s recipe” I grin, “same one she used for Thanksgiving dinner” I chuckle, scooping up another forkful of food and guiding it into my mouth. “well thank you, Nana” He chuckles raising his glass of wine, waiting till I tap mine against his, before he takes a sip. It doesn’t take too long for us to finish up our food and I start to stand up as soon as Logan's plate is cleared, reaching across the table to grab it from him, but he tsks shaking his head at me. “Oh no you don’t” he says making me pause my movements my hand hovering over his empty plate. He smiles walking behind me putting his hands on my shoulders massaging gently kissing the back of my neck, gently pushing me back down into my chair.
“What?” I laugh, letting him guide me back into my chair.
“You cooked, which means I do dishes” He insists, and I chuckle.
“Alright, alright” I smile watching as he clears the plates from the table, he puts all the leftovers in containers and stores them in the fridge. Carrying the pots to the sink pouring soap in the pots letting the hot water run and fill them up. I watch him from my seat at the table taking another sip of wine, watching the muscles in Logan's arms flex as he scrubs the pots and pans rinsing them of soap before putting them in the dish rack to dry. He grabs a tea towel using it to dry his hands, as he turns around leaning back against the kitchen counter, his gaze landing on my figure.
“Well I’m stuffed” he smiles setting the tea towel aside, “but…” He grins standing behind my chair massaging my shoulders again. He takes my hand tugging me out of my chair, holding me close to him, kissing me softly hands gripping my thighs, lifting me up slightly to sit on the dining table. He pulls my body to the edge of the table, making me lay back leaning on my elbows. He pulls up the chair I was previously sitting on, perching himself on the edge of my chair. He pulls my shorts off, my panties following not far behind. He tosses them aside letting them land in a forgotten corner of the room, his lips trailing along my thighs kissing them gently groaning softly at the taste of my skin. He grips my thighs guiding my legs over his shoulders, biting softly at my upper thighs, “I think I’ve saved just enough room for dessert” He purrs, his head dipping down between my legs.
Hi Rae 💜 Here is a nice ask for you— What is one North American dish you can't quite wrap your head around (e.g. mine is sweet potato casserole with marshmallows)? Do you have an Australian one as well?
Hi Dalawa! 💖
It's funny you mention the sweet potato casserole with marshmallows because that is 100% my answer too and just the other day @roseapothecary was trying to convince me that it was delicious. They did send me an example recipe which is the 'best' version of the dish I've seen - just a sprinkling of marshmallows but I am still perplexed lol
I can't think of a specifically Australian dish I can't wrap my head around - mostly cos the things I don't like: eg trifle, mushy peas on a pie, are British anyway haha. Also, I like things like Vegemite which might be considered a controversial Australian food.
sophia do u have any vegetarian/vegan holiday recipes 🤲🏼
I'm so glad you asked, of course I do!
Tumblr media
Some of these things are from my cookbooks, so anything with a book emoji will be shown below the read more just to save space
Starting with desserts:
Vegan chocolate pie (Nora Cooks) - my favorite one to make for thanksgiving, my family (all meat eaters) loves it so much that I end up making two every year! It's really important to use the tofu that comes in aseptic packaging (the kind that's shelf stable) because the refrigerated kind WILL taste like tofu and you don't want that lol...works great in an Oreo crust or just as a mousse too!
Chocolate pecan pie (Isa Chandra Moskowitz)
Cranberry Spice Oatmeal Cookies (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) - these have great flavor but I recommend subbing butter for coconut oil so they don't spread super thin
Vegan Coffee Cake (Vegan Richa) - great for breakfasts! You could easily make them into coffee cake muffins too
📚 Pastry Crust (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's The Superfun Times Vegan Holiday Cookbook) - great staple pie crust that gets its flakiness from a mix of olive and coconut oils! I use this for savory stuff like quiches and pot pies too. Highly recommend the cookbook, it covers everything from Valentine's Day to Passover to Halloween!
📚 Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's Isa Does It cookbook)
📚 Chai Spice Snickerdoodles (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's Isa Does It cookbook)
Savory Thanksgiving & Christmas things:
Easy Vegan Gravy (Nora Cooks) - really simple & much better than the store bought stuff
Easy Vegan Quiche (Jessica in the Kitchen) - more for lunch/brunch than anything, but I like to make a couple these around the holidays because they're so easy to customize & put together
Vegan Alfredo Sauce (Purely Kaylie) - you can put this on pasta of course but I like to use this to fold into mashed potatoes or make a gratin with during the holidays!
Green Bean Casserole (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) - made this one year at the request of a family member, it came out great!
📚 Maple-Mustard Brussels Sprouts with Radicchio and Pecans (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's I Can Cook Vegan cookbook)
Creamy Polenta and Mushroom Ragout (Good Food) - just comfort food tbh!
📚 Glazed Tofu Ham (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's The Superfuntimes Vegan Holiday Cookbook) - I swear by this and make several before thanksgiving because I inhale them - imo works better as a filling for sandwiches or on the side for breakfast, but could be used as a main dish as well!
📚 Winter Squash Cups with Wild Rice, Hazelnuts, and Cherries (Isa Chandra Moskowitz's The Superfuntimes Vegan Holiday Cookbook) - made this once and used cranberries instead of cherries!
Some Hanukkah stuff! which I highly recommend trying even if you don't celebrate Hanukkah, my family does a mixed holiday celebration so I keep these in my rotation for those occasions:
Latkes and Vegan Sour Cream (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) - can also dip in applesauce or top with caramelized onions if you prefer sweet!
📚 Raspberry Rugelach (Isa Chandra Moskowitz) - classic, chocolate, and raisin variations from her holiday cookbook
📚 Matzoh Ball Soup (Isa CHandra Moskowitz)
And I have to include a couple heavy hitters, these are for if you're serious about spending a lot of time in the kitchen and maybe want to show off a little lol - well worth the effort, but not for everyone!
Succulent Roast Turky (The Gentle Chef) - I haven't tried a seitan turkey that's come close to being as good as this one. Lots of time & ingredients, but well worth the effort
Anything from Miyoko's Artisan Vegan Cheese cookbook - the best vegan cheese you will ever eat. Requires a couple weeks prep because you have to allow time to ferment the base liquid and culture the cheese - I'm starting mine today! I made a detailed post about my experience trying this out here, and there's images with instructions for making the rejuvelac, cashew base, and a Boursin-style cheese in it as well! Of course if you don't want to do all that you can buy the Miyoko's cheese that's sold in stores, those are great too 😅
Peter Reinhart's Bagels (Smitten Kitchen) - if you suffer from lack of good bagels in your area, this is one way to fix that! Bagels are essential to any holiday celebration in my family so I figured I'd include this lol
Dear Sephiroth: (a letter to a fictional character, because why not) #120
I did so much stuff today!!!!
…Okay, well actually I did only like 3 things today. But these things were very BIG things! I will talk about two of them, and then touch vaguely upon the third!
I will start with this morning! Because J and I went up in the sky in the little airplane today! We went to an airport that had a diner! I got an EPIC BREAKFAST!!! There was steak and eggs and cheddar grits, and I also got a coffee, because I don't get coffee very often, so why not! I took some pictures for you…
This is what J got! It's some kind of breakfast bowl with salsa, avocados, beans, and scrambled eggs! There's also potatoes and bacon under the eggs! I wonder if you'd enjoy something like this. He let me have a few bites; it was really good!
Tumblr media
Here is the coffee I got! And, of course I snapped the picture of it while the cream was still swirling around; it's more interesting that way:
Tumblr media
Here are some cheddar grits:
Tumblr media
Here's the steak and eggs I got; it came with caramelized onions, cornbread and butter, eggs with runny yolks, and a bit of hollandaise sauce! It also came with ketchup for some reason. But I only like it on burgers, so I didn't use it.
Tumblr media
I asked for the steak to be as rare as allowed, and I was SUPER THRILLED about the fact that they prepared it in basically the same way I do at home - brown the outside, and leave the inside mostly raw:
Tumblr media
It was so good!!! Oh my goodness!
While at the place, I also happened upon a little space with dandelions! I'm not really sure why, but people in my world seem to really hate dandelions. It makes absolutely no sense to me, because in addition to being extremely beneficial to nearby soil for a variety of reasons, every part of the plant is edible and nutritious. One of my favorite things to do, when I can find a safe source of them, is to turn the blooms into a sweet syrup that you can use on pancakes, on ice cream, or in tea! Maybe I'll get to do that this year. For now, I'll just show you the picture I took:
Tumblr media
Isn't it pretty? I like them!
I also took a bunch of photos along the way from the airplane window! I'll show you the best ones!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
…Hey, Sephiroth? I know you can fly and stuff, and that's pretty cool. But while you're up in the sky, dancing in the clouds, do you make it a point to notice and appreciate all the lovely scenery? If you don't, then maybe you can try it next time; practicing gratitude and appreciation is one of the best ways to exercise your hippocampus until it becomes strong!
On the way home, I saw 9 great big huge birds-of-prey; I think these ones were turkey vultures. I managed to actually catch a picture of one in flight for you! Here, it's not very big in the photo, but check out the back speck in the sky:
Tumblr media
Oh!!! Also!!! I finally got around to making the stuffed cabbage casserole today! This recipe was given to me by an awesome person called @freelanceexorcist (thanks be to ye, fren!! 💖)! I ended up modifying it a bit, just to suit the needs of those in my house; Br cannot have gluten, so I used tomato puree in place of tomato soup, and J does not like big cabbage leaves, so I cut it into little slices, and bite-sized bits are easier for M to handle than meatballs, so I kinda just... shredded everything and mixed it all together. But I used mostly the same ingredients, even if the preparation differed just a little! I'll show you what I did…
You start with cabbage!
Tumblr media
Here's how it looks on the inside when you cut it in half!! It's pretty cool!
Tumblr media
...It's like Brussels sprouts, but WAY bigger!
The recipe calls for whole leaves, but I cut it into shreddy bits, like this:
Tumblr media
The cabbage was sauteed in my bacon fat confit garlic:
Tumblr media
I poured in a can of tomato puree from there, and I let it simmer on low heat for a couple of hours:
Tumblr media
While that was happening, I cut up 2 pounds of kielbasa, and 2 onions:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once the cabbage was done and set aside, I caramelized the onions in more bacon fat:
Tumblr media
I added the onions to the cabbage, and then I put a big can of diced tomatoes, a pound of Bavarian sauerkraut, and the ground meat I cooked the other day into the wok, along with a cup of rice and a can full of some beef bone broth:
Tumblr media
I let this sit on very low heat until the rice was done cooking. I used short grain rice; it looks like this:
Tumblr media
...In between the long bits of cooking when there was nothing else I could do, I worked on something else that I'm absolutely not going to tell anyone about! It was good!
Once the cabbage and the rice were all done, I combined the two sets of things; this took some doing simply because there was SO MUCH FOOD, oh my goodness!! But this was the result!
Tumblr media
So... it's cabbage, caramelized onions, sauerkraut, canned tomatoes, tomato puree, beef bone broth, rice, garlic, kielbasa, ground pork, and ground beef, all cooked up nicely and mixed together in a great big awesome dish!! And it is indeed awesome!! It was said that the leftovers are even better, because the flavors are given a chance to mingle; I can't wait to find out tomorrow!
...I wish you could have been here for all of this. I wish you could be here, generally. My house does occasionally have its challenges, for sure, but still, it is happy, wholesome, and safe. There's lots of fun and interesting stuff to do. My house is a good house. You could find healing and belonging here. You could find growth and change here. And you'd fit right in. You'd fit right in with my social circle, generally; ain't a single one of us fit the definition of "normal".
Sephiroth, c'mon. The darkness doesn't suit you. It never did. And it never will. So step away from people who wanna use and abuse you, and instead step towards the people who wanna help you to feel as though you're enough exactly as you are, without needing to do something useful or amazing first.
I'll be here waiting, so... as impossible as it is, pop by for a visit soon, okay? We'll make you good snacks - all the pasta you could want, or whatever else suits your fancy - whatever you like; if I don't know how to cook it, I can figure it out, easy peasy.
I'm gonna go do other things now, and I'm going to wish you were here as I do them. I love you, and I'll write again tomorrow. Please stay safe.
Your friend, Lumine
Sweet potato casserole is the kind of thing that is always my favorite dish on the Thanksgiving plate when someone else makes it and always a source of disappointment when I make it. So I was surprised this year to make the best sweet potato casserole of my life! I need to impart the wisdom I've gained somehwere.
First, I always roast my sweet potatoes whole: scrub, coat in fat (I use rendered bacon fat if I have it), poke holes with a fork, use aluminum foil to cover the sheet pan for easy cleaning, 400f for an hour. Cool and peel.
Sweet potatoes still need a little sugar. I used 1/4 cup for about 4 medium sized potatoes. I added one beaten egg, maybe 1/4 cup of heavy cream, a pinch of salt (1/8 tsp if you measure), some cinnamon (to taste, I used around 1/2 tsp). A tablespoon of bourbon would also be good here. Mash potatoes very well with a potato masher and mix all other ingredients in thoroughly.
The dish is crucial. Choose width over depth so each bite of casserole has some topping. The recipe for topping that's given me the best results is 3/4 cup light brown sugar, 1/2 cup AP flour, 5 Tbsp melted butter. Add about a cup of pecans, pre-toasted is best, broken, not chopped. I do this by hand; the pieces are uneven, which is what I want. Also salt to taste! I added a couple of big pinches of Maldon flaky sea salt for texture as well as flavor.
Bake for about an hour at 350 f. Test at the very center to make sure it's hot all the way through.
Happy STS Zehra!! 💛✨
Do your OCs celebrate Thanksgiving? If so, what dish are they making and bringing? 👀💫
Thank you for your question♡♡♡
Yes, Shion and Raoul, from Eclipsed Hearts, would definitely celebrate Thanksgiving, albeit with their own unique twist on the holiday! They might attend a gathering with fellow vampires and humans, blending traditions to create a fun and memorable experience.
They'd bring Pumpkin Spice Blood Pudding (lol)
Shion and Raoul decide to make a pumpkin spice blood pudding, a creative dish that pays homage to traditional pumpkin pie while embracing their vampire nature. This sweet and spicy pudding is made with real pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a dash of vanilla, blended with a rich, dark blood base (perhaps a mix of animal blood for flavor, keeping it ethical and within vampire norms).
---
Saville and Arce from Under the Knife
Saville is not the traditional family type, and Thanksgiving is mostly a nuisance for him. However, he acknowledges the day as an opportunity to indulge in some culinary creativity. Given his snarky personality and a penchant for the unexpected, he decides to bring an unconventional dish: pumpkin ravioli with sage brown butter sauce. He’ll make it from scratch, enjoying the process of crafting the delicate pasta and filling. While he might roll his eyes at the idea of "family time," he finds solace in the kitchen, where he can exert control and express his culinary skills.
Arce, on the other hand, has a more complex relationship with Thanksgiving. He values the connections with. To celebrate, he brings a smoked turkey breast that he prepared himself, having learned to appreciate the art of cooking as a means of bonding with others. He might also whip up mashed potatoes with garlic and chives, showcasing a softer side as he attempts to impress Saville and make the gathering a little less tense. He enjoys the opportunity to create something delicious for others, perhaps trying to atone for some of his darker past.
---
Aster, Piper and Alethea from Shades of Erudition
Asterion 'Aster' Carter
Dish: Herb-Crusted Roasted Turkey
He would source high-quality ingredients and pay close attention to the details, marinating the turkey with a blend of herbs and spices he meticulously selects. The presentation would be elegant, showcasing his culinary skills and adding a touch of sophistication to the Thanksgiving table.
Piper Redmond
Dish: Sweet Potato Casserole with Marshmallow Topping
He would be the one to add the marshmallow topping, using it as an opportunity to lighten the mood and make jokes about “the best part of Thanksgiving.” His dish would be a bit messy but filled with love and humor, reflecting his vibrant personality. Piper might even sneak in some unique spices or nuts to surprise everyone, showcasing his creativity and flair for fun in the kitchen.
Alethea Pierce
Dish: Cranberry Sauce with a Twist
Why: Alethea, with her sharp intellect and creativity, would prepare a homemade cranberry sauce that stands out from the usual recipe. She might infuse her sauce with orange zest, ginger, and a hint of cinnamon, giving it a unique flavor profile that surprises everyone at the table. This dish would reflect her personality—classic yet innovative, with a touch of warmth and sophistication.
---
Rosaire and Leslie from Crimson Threads
Rosaire, with his penchant for charm and sophistication, takes on the role of the host and prepares a luxurious roasted turkey, seasoned to perfection and garnished with fresh herbs. He believes that a perfectly cooked turkey is a staple of any Thanksgiving gathering, and he uses this occasion to show off his culinary skills.
Leisle, on the other hand, takes a more playful approach. He decides to make a dessert—pumpkin spice cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. He knows Rosaire loves to impress, and he wants to bring something fun and casual to balance out the elegance of the turkey. Leisle also throws in a few surprises, like adding unexpected spices and a hint of chocolate to the cupcakes, making them a delightful twist on the traditional dish.
---
I hope you enjoyed this. Yes it is not systematic, i tend to get confused with the aesthetics.
Thank you once again ♡♡♡
Tumblr came in absolutely clutch with recipe recs for me lately, so in the spirit of paying it forward, I return offering a recipe for:
The Best Sweet Potato Casserole You Will Ever Have in Your Life
[plaint text: "The Best Sweet Potato Casserole You Will Ever Have in Your Life."]
courtesy of — if I'm tracing my recipe genealogy correctly — either my great-grandmother's church friend, or some kind of benevolent patron god of brown sugar and root vegetables. With a couple of eggs, it achieves almost a soufflé texture, and it's deliciously sweet but not in the overkill way that keeps me away from some other sweet casseroles.
Are you looking to upstage everyone who's bringing a pie to the family gathering? Do you have a sweet tooth, but not enough of a sweet tooth for those other sweet potato recipes that douse them in an equal mass of heavy syrup or marshmallows? Then this is the casserole for you.
Vegetarian, and easily made gluten-free with substitutions.
Ingredients:
[plain text: "Ingredients".]
3 cups pre-cooked sweet potatoes, slightly mashed
1/4 cup butter
2 eggs, room temperature
1 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 cup brown sugar
Streusel topping:
[Plain text: "Streusel topping".]
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup flour (any kind will do)
1 cup of a crunchy, salty snack*
*Pecans are listed on the original recipe, but if you're allergic to nuts, try crushed pretzels (small but not totally pulverized pieces). If you can't have wheat either (hi friend!), I used crushed rice chex with a half-teaspoon of kosher salt sprinkled on this year, and it was still S-tier. Truly, I don't think you could go wrong with any plain rice cereal plus extra salt to taste. We love a flexible recipe!
Equipment:
[Plain text: "Equipment".]
9x9 or roughly equivalent baking dish (if dish is bigger, just bake for a slightly shorter time)
At least 1 mixing bowl
Spatula
Fork (for prepping streusel)
Instructions:
[Plain text: "Instructions".]
If you haven't done so already, cook the sweet potatoes until they reach a texture suitable for mashing. This can be done in the microwave in about 10 minutes, give or take depending on settings, but be sure to poke some holes in the skin with a fork before microwaving, so the steam can escape.
Once cooked, remove skins then mash them. Let them return a little closer to room temperature before stirring in the eggs (so the eggs don't immediately cook). Add the butter (1/4 cup, melted), brown sugar (3/4 cup), and vanilla, and stir thoroughly before spreading out evenly in baking dish.
For the streusel, mix brown sugar (3/4 cup) and flour. Cut the butter (1/3 cup) into this mixture; this works best if the butter is slightly cooler than room temperature, but not straight out of the fridge. Use the tines of a fork and the side of a bowl to break the butter apart and mix, until a crumbly texture is reached. Mix in topping of choice, then sprinkle on top of potatoes.
Bake at 300° Fareinheit for 30-45 minutes, uncovered. The streusel should be lightly browned. Best served warm.
Other notes:
[Plain text: "Other notes".]
Cinnamon and its friends (allspice, nutmeg, etc) can be delicious additions to the potatoes and/or the streusel. This dish is sweet enough to function as a dessert, but it's also great as a side to something savory. In terms of prep, the sweet potatoes can be pre-cooked and mashed ahead of time; simply refrigerate until ready.
And that's all! Enjoy!
I'd be interested in reading a post about recipes if you wrote it lol. Anything you write would be fantastic.
Plus, a campfire meal is an excellent way to bring people together as they gather around the fire, sharing stories and laughs while enjoying their meal..... Cooking over a campfire is an enjoyable and rewarding experience; the rustic flavor of food cooked over an open flame can't be replicated in any other way. Plus, a campfire meal is an excellent way to bring people together as they gather around the fire, sharing stories and laughs while enjoying their meal. However, there are certain best practices that need to be kept in mind when cooking on a campfire in order for everyone to stay safe and have a successful outdoor dining experience. This post will provide guidance on gathering supplies, selecting foods, cooking methods for different types of foods and serving tips so you can create delicious campfire meals with ease. In This ArticleGathering Supplies and Preparing the Campfire Selecting Foods for your Campfire MealSelecting the Right Foods to Cook Cooking Methods for Different Foods Serving and Eating Your Campfire Meal Safely Extinguishing the Campfire Conclusion Gathering Supplies and Preparing the Campfire For a successful campfire cooking experience, it is important to choose the right fuel. Wood is the most commonly used fuel for starting a fire, but charcoal can be used as an alternative if you want to cook over direct heat. Make sure to gather enough wood or charcoal so that your fire will last through your entire meal. When assembling your campfire, use a ring of rocks or separate logs for containment or create three-sided fireplace with one long side open for ventilation. Once you have assembled your fire correctly, light it using either matches or a lighter; never use gasoline to start a fire! Finally, make sure all safety protocols are followed while operating around an open flame - keep children away from the area and ensure water is nearby in case of emergency. Selecting Foods for your Campfire Meal The type of food you select will largely depend on what kind of camping trip you are taking and how much time you have available to prepare campfire meals. If possible, plan ahead and bring along pre-made ingredients such as marinated meats that can just be heated up over the campfire instead of requiring extensive prep work at the campsite. Additionally consider foods that require minimal utensils (think burgers cooked on sticks) which allows everyone more freedom during mealtime rather than having them stuck behind their plates waiting for their food to cook! Selecting the Right Foods to Cook When selecting the right foods to cook over a campfire, it is important to consider what types of items can withstand the direct heat and smoke. Meats such as steak, chicken and fish are great for grilling directly on top of flames or in a cast iron skillet. Vegetables like corn on the cob, potatoes and squash can also be cooked this way as long as they are cut into smaller pieces so that they don't burn too quickly. Smaller items like hot dogs should be skewered onto metal sticks so that they can easily be turned while cooking without burning them. For those who desire more homestyle flavors from their campfire meals, using Dutch ovens allows certain recipes like stews or casseroles to simmer over indirect heat without needing constant tending throughout cooking process. Foil packets also make cleanup easy by containing individually portioned ingredients that just need to be placed at an appropriate distance from fire before being left alone until meal is done. Finally, since many people enjoy sweet treats while camping out in nature; desserts such as s'mores or fruit pies made with pre-made crusts wrapped in foil make excellent options for finishing off a delicious campfire meal cooked outdoors! Having trouble finding the right food to cook? Here is an amazing list of food and their recipes that you can make on the go.
