What Dog the AoT Characters Would Have 💛
Character(s): Armin Arlert, Sasha Braus, Jean Kirstein, Connie Springer, Bertholdt Hoover, & Annie Leonhardt
Genre: Light-hearted, modern!au
Warnings: Mentions of animal neglect/abuse, some dog breeds commonly perceived as scary, cursing
A/n: I usually include Mikasa in my headcanons, but I just forgot until last minute that she existed ;-; so, sorry for not including her. If someone requests it, I’ll add her to the list.
💛 Armin
His parents got him a beagle puppy for one of his birthdays and he got so attached to it. He was so grateful that he had a dog and absolutely treasures him.
Named him Buddy because he’s his little sidekick and is always fun to play with and snuggle up to.
Buddy almost never shuts up though. A bird flies past the window? He starts barking. A truck goes by? Goes bonkers. He sees himself in the mirror? Shooketh.
Whenever Buddy starts going crazy, Armin picks him up, takes him away from whatever’s bothering him and scratches behind his ears. That makes Buddy practically melt into Armin’s arms and it’s so adorable. 💕
Buddy is very protective over Armin, or as protective as a dog his size could be. He always barks at the doorbell and is very wary of strangers.
If you walk into Armin’s house and Buddy has never seen you before, Armin will be sitting in a chair holding a dog who’s glaring into your soul.
You and Armin will try to have a normal conversation while Buddy is snarling and growling at you with Armin just patting his head and making an expression that says he deals with this all the time.
After a couple visits, Buddy is still tense around you but unwinds once you start playing with him.
Whenever Armin’s studying or working, Buddy will jump up into his lap and snuggle with him.
Sometimes when Armin falls asleep at his desk, he’ll have his arms on the table and Buddy in his lap.
When he’s in the car, Buddy tries to bite cars through the window. He just growls and bangs the glass with his teeth before Armin stops him from chipping a tooth.
Just how Buddy is protective of Armin, Armin’s protective of Buddy.
If someone talks shit about his dog, he’ll get sad about it. Buddy doesn’t deserve to be treated like that, he never hurt anyone.
Buddy can’t be taken to the park because he just agitates other dogs. He never gets along with them and never lets his guard down.
Buddy’s also one of those dogs who gets really dramatic. One time he was laying on the couch with his ball and it rolled off so he just started howling.
It’s also really hard to trim his nails without him growling, even though he’d never bite anyone.
Once Buddy has calmed down around someone, he’s fun to just hang around.
Armin likes to sit on the couch reading with Buddy on his lap or beside him. He’s great to study with or have around.
💛 Sasha
Adopts a 5-year-old blue greyhound from her local shelter.
She’d been volunteering there for a while when the greyhound came in and just couldn’t resist.
With greyhounds being bred to hunt and Sasha coming from a family who has a hunting background, it seemed like a match made in heaven.
She bought her and gave her a bright pink collar with a little dog bone tag with her name etched in it.
Since greyhounds’ necks are so long, she gives her a big knitted scarf to wear in the winter to keep her all nice and cozy.
Was torn between naming her Snickerdoodle or Candy because they’re both cute names and are both foods, but ended up naming her Pumpkin because she couldn’t decide and Pumpkin’s a really cute name as well.
Sasha loves playing fetch with her and it’s so fun because Pumpkin can run really fast, really far.
Pumpkin almost never barks unless she’s having fun or there’s someone at the door.
Sasha’s bed is lofted by a couple feet for storage and Pumpkin has no problem getting on and off her bed.
The first time Pumpkin saw Sasha’s bed, she didn’t know what to do so just sat there looking up at Sasha. It took a couple minutes for her to realize Sasha patting the bed meant she could jump onto it.
Sasha allows her dog on any of the furniture so there’s short hairs all over the couch no matter what.
Pumpkin’s really kind and gentle around kids so Sasha can basically take her anywhere. She’s super well behaved but sometimes scares people because she jumps in excitement.
Sasha also shares her food with her dog all the time. Always packs extra whenever she goes somewhere so she can give some to Pumpkin.
If you moved in with Sasha, Pumpkin would take to you right away.
She would literally be so sweet and always make you happy all the time. 😭💕
Plays tug of war and fetch a lot with you.
If you’re working/eating at a desk, she’ll lean her head on your leg until you pet her or give her food, or both.
Overall, Pumpkin is so sweet and adorable. She will always cheer you up when you need it and always has enough energy to play.
💛 Jean
Adopted a pitbull who is now 6, but was brought into a fighting ring when he was 4.
He knew it would be a challenge to help an abused dog but wanted to give him a good home.
When he first saw him, he was covered in scars and missing part of his ear.
He named him Kane. He’s a beautiful deep reddish-brown color with a white belly.
From the first moment they met, there was a connection. Kane warmed up to Jean quite quickly for a dog who’s been through so much.
Jean took him home and slowly introduced him to lifestyle changes, like going for walks or taking baths.
He introduces him to other dogs too. Kane showed a little hostility in the beginning, but once he realized they weren’t threats he was fine being around them.
Jean pays top dollar for him. Any issue he has, he takes him to the vet and gets it fixed up. He also gets the best food for him because that’s what he deserves.
Kane loves going for car rides. Sometimes Jean will get in the car with him, no destination in mind, and just drive.
Jean rolls the window down and Kane pokes his head outside. His mouth opens and because of the wind going into it, he showers the window behind him in slobber.
Kane absolutely loves swimming. He’s quite good at it, but Jean still takes a lot of safety precautions, such as a life jacket or shallow water because pitbulls are known to be somewhat bad swimmers.
Every summer, Jean takes out a kiddie pool and lets Kane splash around in it.
He also really likes to turn on the hose or sprinkler and aim it at Kane. He jumps up to bite the water and they both have a great time.
It can be a problem though because when Jean’s trying to fill the pool up, Kane keeps batting the hose with his paw or trying to eat the water and Jean has to get him to relax.
Other than his little quirks, Kane’s a relatively chill dog. He’s alright with being dressed up in costumes or having to wear a cone.
Every halloween, Jean gets both of them a matching costume and they sit on the porch to give kids candy.
Jean also lets the kids pet Kane because over time, he gets very welcoming of people and other dogs he doesn’t know.
Long story short, Kane’s not the dog you want to protect your house, if someone broke in, he’d just start wagging his tail and not be able to tell what’s going on.
💛 Connie
Saw how cool Jean’s dog is and also wanted a badass and cool breed.
He ended up adopting a doberman pinscher.
Like Jean’s dog, she looks strong and intimidating.
Unlike Jean’s dog, she acts the complete opposite of how she looks.
She’s often quite jittery or seems scared. Whenever someone even remotely raises their voice, her ears go down and she lowers her head.
You and Connie often have to give her tons of pets and appreciation after shouting, whether it’s good or bad shouting.
She’s also a total cuddlebug. She loves to be on Connie’s lap 24/7 and sleeps right next to him, watching over him.
Because of her timid personality, Connie named her Lily. It’s a sweet and innocent sounding name. Even though he sought her out to be a “cool” dog, she’s super sweet and didn’t want to name her something that conflicted with who she really was.
One thing about Lily is she loves running. Connie likes to skateboard alongside her as she pulls him along. It’s not much effort for her because Connie’s lightweight and uses his feet a lot. Plus, the area they live is pretty flat, so they often do.
Lily has a hard time understanding what is and isn’t a toy. One time she nearly chewed off one of the sofa legs. Next time Connie sat on it, it snapped and then he figured out Lily was behind it.
After that, he trained her to know everything he puts in her basket is a toy, but everything else isn’t. Then, she used the basket as a toy.
She goes through toys lightning quick.
Every time you or Connie give her a new stuffed animal, it takes approximately .2 seconds for it to be torn to shreds.
Connie loves to take her to PetSmart and let her pick out toys in-store.
If she chooses a toy that means Connie won’t need to guess what she likes and what she doesn’t.
One time she chose one of those scented rope toys, but once Connie took the packaging off, she started acting weirdly.
Once he gave it to her, she started barking at it and whacking it with her paw.
Connie was super confused so he threw it and she chased after it like normal, but once she got close to it she started acting scared of it and barking.
It’s been like that ever since now so they just don’t play with that toy.
Lily doesn’t bark that often. She usually only barks from excitement or when she meets someone new.
She also doesn’t have the zoomies that much so she’s a really relaxed dog to hang with.
💛 Bertholdt
Bertholdt saw his neighbors packing their stuff in a van one day and leaving but saw they left their samoyed leashed up outside.
He wanted to hold out hope that they were just going out somewhere for a bit so waited the rest of the night but found the dog still chained up the next morning in the rain.
He was never close to his neighbors and didn’t want any confrontation so he went up and knocked on the door, checking if anyone was home.
No surprise, they weren’t so he cautiously made his way over to the dog.
It was so happy to see someone and started licking his hand right away.
He unchained the dog and led it into his house where he gave it a nice warm bath and some food.
While bathing her, he took off her collar, with the neighbor’s number and address engraved in it along with her name, Mavis.
While Mavis was eating he called the number he found on her tag. He explained that the dog looked like it was left there on purpose so he took it in until they got home. They just said they didn’t want her anymore and hung up, which broke Bertholdt’s heart.
So he took her to the vet, got some pet things because he hasn’t owned a pet previously and she became a big part of his life.
She clings to him everywhere and won’t ever leave his side. Almost never barks and is super good on a leash.
Bertholdt takes her to the dog park a lot, Mavis is very social and has made a lot of friends there.
Mavis has quite the habit of rolling around in the mud or dirt though so Bertholdt has to give her a bath quite often.
Bertholdt absolutely cannot contain the dog hair. There is so much of it and it’s everywhere, went through like 3 lint rollers in the first week.
He spoils her rotten. Whenever he goes shopping he gets her new treats and toys because he swore to do right by her when her old owners didn’t.
If you were brought into the equation, Mavis would love you unconditionally. She’ll be there to give you high-fives and cuddle with you.
She is the softest thing on the planet so the cuddles are amazing. If you and Bertholdt sleep together, she’ll plop herself right in between the both of you so she could get attention until you fall asleep.
Whenever she needs something but isn’t up, she licks your face until you give her what she wants.
Even though she can get quite hot in the summer, she always wants to cuddle and loves to do it, whether it’s with you or Bertholdt.
💛 Annie (normally I don’t write for her but I couldn’t get this scenario out of my head)
Hitch gave her a chihuahua for her birthday even though she never remotely hinted at wanting a dog.
She didn’t want to return it though and oddly liked it, even though she never asked for him.
Just calls him “Dog” for a bit since she doesn’t know what to name him.
He’s a tan deer head dog so Annie gives him the name “Biscuit” after a couple weeks.
It’s super generic but she doesn’t think he needs any fancy name and he looks like a biscuit so 🤷🏻‍♀️
She has one of the backpacks with a compartment to fit a dog.
She likes to put Biscuit in there and take him out when she goes out.
When Annie takes him out, Biscuit is usually pretty chill, aside from giving a couple glares to random people.
Sometimes he even falls asleep in her backpack.
Whenever someone pisses Annie off, Biscuit senses it. Annie isn’t usually one to get into a full-blow fight and be loud, so Biscuit is her volume. Whenever she starts going off, he starts growling and barking.
And when she does get loud, both of them are yelling and screaming so that often deters the other person.
When she first got Biscuit, Annie didn’t really pay that much attention to him. She’d be on the couch and whenever he came up to her with a ball or toy, she’d throw it.
Then as she started to get used to him, she started to like him more.
Nowadays, she sometimes chases him around the house with a smile on her face and it’s so adorable, especially because she doesn’t smile all too often.
Biscuit is relatively calm, even for a chihuahua. He can often be seen on the couch on his back with his tongue out laying in the sun.
Speaking of being on the couch, originally Annie wanted to keep him off all furniture but soon realized he simply wouldn’t stay off and she didn’t want to bother to train him not to.
Now, they share almost everything. She sleeps with him next to her, they relax on the couch together, and sometimes she even brings him up on one of the kitchen chairs and they share food together.
Biscuit hates her alarm clock with a passion. If Annie doesn’t wake up from the alarm, she wakes up from the high pitched barks of her dog wanting her to turn it off.
Once the two are close, they are bonded for life and can be seen everywhere together.

What brands of food do you feed your dogs? I also am struggling with learning about dog nutrition, and what I'm currently feeding my pup is on your list of brands you didn't like 😓 There's so much info out there to parse through, that any helpful insight is appreciated.
I do have a list of foods that are my general go-tos but I can tell you what I'm planning to buy this black friday if nothing changes about these bags between now and then.
I am planning to buy at least one of every flavor of the WholeHearted grain-inclusive line, only because I still have access to getting it 50% off of whatever the black friday price is. So that's 5 bags. For me that's usually the best price in the store on that day so often I stock up on that before anything else.
From there it will depend what the prices are for Purina Pro Plan, Wellness, and Canidae. Since grain-inclusive is cheaper and I no longer have a dog that's allergic to grain, I'll be seeing grain-inclusive over anything else. I will need to do some research into whether Merrick has fully adjusted their formulas to see if I'm willing to give them another chance. Earthborn is expensive and I can't buy it from Petco so that will depend if I find a good price for it at a different company- they have adjusted their formulas to avoid the legume/lentil DCM problem so I am willing to feed them again.
About this time every year, Petco and Petsmart do a "reset" on their dog food to see what they are going to continue carrying for the rest of the year. Often times they heavily discount foods they no longer are carrying, so whenever that matches up to what I'm willing to feed I do usually snag a couple bags. This year there was not much discounted at my Petsmart so I didn't buy anything (plus I have plenty of dog food so it was not super pressing to buy anything) but I always keep a look out.
If my complaint is not a food concern and I'm just annoyed by the way the bags are packed, if the food is discounted enough I will still buy it. That's why I bought 4 bags of Nutro chicken and rice large breed puppy two years ago to prepare for getting Sushi; the Petco I worked at discounted them to $6 per bag so I figured sure why not. I'm also sometimes willing to try new bags of things if a company is trying to fix its shit, such as when I snagged some Blue Carnivora when my Petco discounted it to pennies per pound. Normally it would be too expensive for me to bother with as at full price it was close to 100USD/bag but for under $10 for 100lbs I figured sure why not.
It will also depend if I actually have this doberman puppy that may or may not be cooking in her mama's belly, and whether this doberman puppy has any dietary concerns of her own.

First Pet Shenanigans (Zaid x Ines)
Description: Gabriella gets a pet rabbit. Zaid is slightly terrified of it.
Word Count: 1,593
Rating: PG
Preview: When he turned around, the rabbit stood in the doorway. It held perfectly still aside from the twitching of its nose. Then, without warning, Oscar took a single, almost intimidating hop towards him. At least mildly horrified, Zaid subconsciously took a step back.
Not long after her fifth birthday, Gabriella started asking her parents for a pet.
They had Ines’s cat, but the lazy cat would much rather sleep than play with the toys Gabriella tried to entertain her with.
At first, they hesitated. They both worked full time, and Gabriella was still young. But eventually Gabriella and Ines’s shared enthusiasm for all things warm and fuzzy won, and Zaid gave in.
They ruled out a puppy for now, since a puppy would require more training. Of all the other animals on the planet, surely Gabriella could think of something fluffy that didn’t require someone to be home every day for the first few months.
“You can have a pet if it’s something that won’t be as hard to take care of,” Zaid granted, expecting her to suggest something simple, like a cat of her own.
Gabriella’s response was immediate. “A duck.”
“Well… a duck might not be happy living inside all the time. And they like to live with other ducks, so it might get lonely,” Ines explained.
“Oh.” Gabriella furrowed her brow in thought. “A mini horse. Daddy can build it a barn.”
Zaid rolled his eyes. “Yes. I’ll do that with my extensive knowledge of barn construction. I’ll get right on that.”
Gabriella rolled her eyes in a perfect imitation of him. “I was joking. Can I have a rabbit?’
At that suggestion, Ines looked thoughtful. “Hmm.. I think a rabbit would be okay.”
“Okay!” Delighted, Gabriella flung her arms around them and squeezed tight before she shoved a  somewhat concerningly sticky iPad into Zaid’s hands. “Let’s find a rabbit store. We’ll go get my rabbit tomorrow.”
Zaid made a face and set aside the sticky device. “We still need to talk about it. We’ll let you know later. We both have to work tomorrow.”
Gabriella shrugged, unfazed. “Call Dr. Naveen and tell him it’s a really, really big emergency. Say it’s the biggest emergency ever and you can’t go to work!”
“Somehow I don’t think that would be the best choice.”
Huffing, Gabriella took her iPad and climbed onto the couch. “Can I still look at pictures of rabbits?”
“You can do that.” Ines helped her get started and watched as the five-year-old scrolled through Google images of rabbits. “They’re so fluffy…”
It was in that moment Zaid knew they’d have a rabbit by the end of the week.
XXXXX
The day Ines took Gabriella to pick out her rabbit, Zaid fully expected them to come home with a cage containing a perfectly normal, small rabbit.
His first mistake was daring to make such a bold assumption.
Instead, Gabriella walked into the house with a leash clutched tightly in her hand. At the end of the leash was a harness, and in the harness was the biggest fucking rabbit Zaid had ever laid eyes on.
“What the… how… why is that rabbit the size of a shopping mall Easter bunny?”
“He’s a Flemish giant,” Ines explained. “We started out looking at the smaller ones, but then Gabriella saw him and fell in love with him.”
Recovering from his shock, Zaid stared at the oversized rabbit. “I thought we said her pet can’t be bigger than her.”
“I’m bigger than him!” Gabriella helped her rabbit stand on his hind legs. His head came to her chest, but his big ears just barely passed the top of her head. She peered between his ears and grinned. “I named him Oscar!”
“Like Oscar the Grouch?”
“Yeah!”
“Why do I feel alarmed?”
“He’s not actually grouchy at all. He was the most affectionate rabbit they had. The employees at the rescue center even said that these rabbits usually have a milder temperament than smaller breeds,” Ines informed him, reaching down to rub the rabbit’s big head.
“He’s just… massive. Terrifyingly so.”
“He weighs nineteen pounds.”
“He wants to explore.” Gabriella unhooked his leash. Oscar paused for a moment before he took off, bounding down the hallway. Gabriella chased after him.
“Does he really have to be walked like a dog?”
Ines shook her head. “No. He’s already litter box trained. We stopped at PetSmart and bought everything he needs.”
“What does a rabbit that size eat?”
“Regular rabbit food. Pellets, cabbage, carrots. Stuff like that. Just a lot more of it.”
Oscar hopped back into the living room. He stopped when he almost ran into the cat and froze in his tracks. Mittens hissed at him. Offended, Oscar cowered back from the cat that was half his size.
“We got him a habitat to stay in while we’re not home. You and Baz can put it together.”
Gabriella knelt next to Oscar and patted his furry head. He pressed his nose into her palm and sniffed. “I think he wants food.”
“We’ll bring his stuff inside so you can feed him. Make sure he doesn’t get into anything,” Ines instructed. She and Zaid brought in their purchases from the pet store.
Oscar watched in what looked like fascination as they opened the giant bag of rabbit pellets. Gabriella filled his bowl with it and sat back to watch as he nibbled hungrily on the food.
After a few minutes, Oscar left the food bowl to finish investigating the house. Gabriella followed him to keep him out of trouble.
They were getting dinner started when Zaid heard light footsteps entering the kitchen.
When he turned around, the rabbit stood in the doorway. It held perfectly still aside from the twitching of its nose. Then, without warning, Oscar took a single, almost intimidating hop towards him. At least mildly horrified, Zaid subconsciously took a step back.
“He’s not gonna hurt you!” To prove her point, Gabriella flopped onto the floor. Oscar climbed on top of her, practically burying her beneath his fluff. “See? You can’t be scared of your own grand bunny!”
“My what now?”
“He’s my rabbit, so that means he’s like my kid and you and Mommy are his grandparents,” Gabriella explained, her expression serious. “Rabbits are just like fuzzy babies.”
“Those two things aren’t exactly comparable.”
Gabriella shook her head. “Well, I said they are, so… there. I’m not gonna argue about it.”
Ines tried to stifle a laugh. “Zaid, I think you just lost the argument. Oscar’s officially our grandchild.”
Oscar sniffed Gabriella, twitching his nose several times before laying his big head on her shoulder. He didn’t budge until a minute later when the door opened and Baz walked in.
“Oh no! My niece turned into a rabbit!”
Gabriella rolled out from under Oscar. “Nuh uh!”
Baz let out a sigh and pretended to wipe sweat from his forehead. “Whew. I was worried. Who’s this big guy?”
“Oscar! Daddy’s scared of him!”
Baz grinned. “Oh, he is? Tell me all about it.”
“Excuse me?” Zaid frowned.
“He gets scared every time Oscar looks at him,” Gabriella explained, grinning mischievously. “But I tried telling him Oscar’s his grand bunny and he’s not supposed to be afraid of him.”
“Of course not. Well, that and the fact that he’s just a harmless ball of fluff that no grown adult should be afraid of.” Amused, Baz knelt down and patted Oscar. “If he’s your mom and dad’s grandchild, does that make him my grand-nephew?’
“Yep!” Gabriella laughed and found Oscar’s leash. “Can we take Oscar outside to play?”
Ined nodded. “Just make sure you keep him on his leash.”
“Okay.” Grabbing Baz’s hand, Gabriella steered him toward the door so they could take Oscar outside. “Tell me more stuff Daddy’s scared of.”
By night time, Oscar seemed to have made himself at home. He occupied the end of the couch, content and comfortable while Zaid and Ines watched a movie and Gabriella colored at the coffee table.
Without warning, Oscar crawled across the cushions and sprawled across Zaid’s lap. He sharply rammed his head into Zaid’s hand.
Gabriella giggled. “He wants you to pet him.”
Tentatively, Zaid patted the rabbit’s head. Oscar sat upright, looking him directly in the eye. “I can’t tell if he’s thanking me or plotting my death.”
Gabriella sighed and rolled her eyes. “He doesn’t kill people. He’s not that smart.”
Ines snapped a picture, much to Zaid’s chagrin. “He looks so comfortable.”
“Well, good for him, I guess.”
“You look adorable.” Grinning, Ines leaned over and kissed him. “Okay, Gab, time for bed. Go pick out a book and we’ll be in there soon to read to you.”
Gabriella groaned and tried not to yawn. She held her eyes open and sat up straighter. “I’m not sleepy. See?”
“I see. I also saw you falling asleep a minute ago. C’mon.”
Sighing in defeat, Gabriella patted Oscar. “Come on, Oscar. You’re gonna sleep in my bed.”
At her beckoning, Oscar hopped off of Zaid’s lap and trailed after her. Zaid and Ines soon followed to read to Gabriella. Oscar was stretched comfortably across the foot of her bed and watched as Gabriella handed her parents a book.
“Oscar wants to hear about Peter Rabbit,” she insisted, only to fall asleep by the third page of the story. Wide awake, Oscar hopped off the bed and followed Zaid and Ines to the living room.
The second Zaid sat down, Oscar plopped into his lap.
“I think he likes you.”
Zaid sighed when Oscar looked up at him, staring at him with wide eyes and refusing to budge. “I’m still getting mixed signals.”
“He probably just knows you’re a softie.”
“How did I give him that impression?”
Ines shrugged, grinning. “Animals notice stuff like that.”

"Hahaha. A friend pointed this out. W online shops too!" What does this even mean?! I don't know anyone in 2020 who doesn't online shop besides my 80 year old grandparents because they refuse to learn how to use a computer 😂 I don't get how Will, a 30 something year old man, online shopping is worthy enough for Abby to comment on it. I'm sure Chris does it too. And Darren.
On Nov 5, Darren wrote this post and the cc fandom lost their shit.
Tumblr media
They decided that organizing 10 costumes for multiple events in two different states for two different people was not worthy of acknowledgment- especially since they wore several purchased costumes. They spent the next 30-ish days mocking her “online shopping skills” like the petty idiots they are and now they bring it up two months later.
Anonymous asked: this is funny, C posted a photo of beard, D posted photos with the beard. Almost like they were sitting next to each other and saying “ok ok I will say this”
ajw720 answered: The only difference, C controls his SM and the bearding, D does not, but they knew the Halloween post was coming when C posted his belated b-day wishes (not that he acknowledged they were late).
It really is, if you can remove the very human, tragic element, like a script for a really bad D Movie.  C posts “Happy Birthday, Babe!” a day after the man’s actual b-day and “D” praises his fake bride for MAKING TEN costumes.  Sure praise her if she actually designed them and sat with her sewing machine.  No, she went online and ordered things (I doubt she even went to a store).   And 3 couple costumes were cheap frankly.  The only thought was how narcissistic she could be in their execution (as @flowersintheattic254pointed out even the Mario costume had  a reason, it was a reminder of Japan and the fake encagement by referring to the ad that paid for their trip there).
And seriously how are people not questioning that she spent the entirety of her month picking TEN costumes?  Who has time for this?  I know, i know, a person whose only role in life is to play fake plus one.
I am just so tired by D in particular being utterly dragged down by the useless dead weight by his side and his team’s sole ambition to promote her and make her sound like a decent person.
If they wanted to praise her, maybe they should have forced her to participate in the zero waste initiative instead of sitting drinking by the pool or have her volunteer to help young girls who have been kicked out of their homes, or have been raped.  Or pick any cause and truly volunteer her time to promote it.  If she is not going to actually get a job and pursue a career, please force her to do something that is actually of value and contribute something good to the world. But to praise her for picking TEN costumes?
Praise that comes from a man who this year alone won three awards, is starring in a show he created and wrote the music for, has his first big movie premiere this week, is exec producer and star of a huge show on N/etflix, just announced his starring role with 2 A++ lists actors next spring on Broadway, celebrated the 5th anniversary of the festival he created, volunteered his time for the zero waste initiative, performed at several charity events, and was just yesterday name limited series actor of the decade.  Where is the praise for him from his “bride”?  He at least deserves it.
How do they not see how ridiculous it is for someone with D’s accomplishments in 2019 alone praise a person for purchasing TEN costumes for Halloween?  And stans, how do you accept that this is right or normal.  You really know nothing about him and have such little respect for him as a person if you continue to accept the character his idiotic team has created on his behalf.  It is so far from the person he is and that he generally holds himself out to be when given the opportunity.
This isn’t about being a “gay fetishist” or “hating woman” this is about wanting for D to be fairly and accurately represented and no longer forced to participate in this stupid, life sucking game to promote a person that contributes absolutely nothing to the world.  If you want to have a strong female role model, there are so many, i’ve talked about a few in the past few days (thus far Nancy, Lea, and Phoebe) and will continue to do so, but please stop worshiping a person whose sole reason you are speaking about her is her connection to D, even if you refuse to accept it is fake.
klainecentric Finished reading the funniest ig story of the day, the qween being praised for sitting in front of either a sewing machine or computer...bravo your majesty qween....your my hero well done.👏👏. And all I can think of is how irrelevant the statement D made about being an emotional horder, being a very private person and finally D saying he's lazy when it comes to social media, I'm internally screaming in frustration because yeah we know D wouldn't have written a post praising that lazy good for nothing waste of space but he's coming across as a lier and it's extremely damaging to his character as a person. I absolutely hate lying and every time another "private" moment is posted to the world is another small piece that's chipped away from what D has originally stated about privacy. PBB, nobody cares about your cheap arse highly flammable costumes you buy online, did you forget about your piano baby adult strip club. I'm sure there are still plenty of people out there you can hire to rub and flaunt their flanges all over the beer taps, why don't you keep busy on that instead. If you want to make costumes, I'm sure you can sew some mighty fine titty tassels together. It'll be cheap nasty, sound familiar.
souly So, let me get this straight. We should all praise a person for going online, looking up different costumes in online stores, putting those in their shopping basket and hitting “buy”? Because I do that at least once a week with other stuff. Do I get praised for that now? Pretty please? I’m doing good work there and buy a lot of stuff, therefore I must be the best person ever!
notes-from-nowhere You’re my Queen. Please, love me.

(I think I got it right. I’m getting the hang of what said person is doing. Wheee! ;))
notes-from-nowhere You nailed it 🤣
ajw720 Yesterday I got a delivery of car food. And instead of his usual seafood mix up greats, I got him shrimp flavor. I’m awesome!!!!!
souly Oh, hey! I think we should all take pictures of whatever we bought online during the week or month and make individual posts on all of our social media accounts about it. Because, you know…
Tumblr media
cassie1022 I picked up stuff I ordered online at Target and PetSmart. Does that count? Should I receive accolades because my cat will have fresh litter to do her business on?
souly Only if you post the pictures to prove it! ;)
ajw720 As soon as I get home. Pictures forthcoming. Shrimp cat treats and I also got a burgundy blanket for my new comforter!!! Life goals!!!!!!!!!!!
souly Okay, so, let’s see… What did I buy online during the past month that can be shared as pictures? Some things are gifts, so I obviously can’t post anything about those yet. But I think these here are safe.
Let’s start with one of my fav new shirts. (Excuse the grainy quality. I had to quickly edit it for privacy reasons. :p And yes, that’s a butterfly mirror.)
Tumblr media
The rest are behind the cut to save your dash from drowning in too many pictures. ;)
cheekyface72 You’re my queen from now on…
ajw720 I think emmy/sag/gg/CC winner DC should write a post @soulypraising your awesome, amazing, unparalleled online shopping skills!  You earned that praise.  That cat toy is particularly spectacular.

flowersintheattic254. When you add the fact that the wedding was sponsored so heavily, and her history of outfits I think it shows Mi@rren is something that’s always been done very much ‘on the cheap’.
From work vacays (honeymoon included), RC ‘glue gun’ looks, thrift shoes and subsidized weddings.
It’s BUDGET BEARDING!!!
leka-1998. It’s not worth more than this, that’s for sure.
notes-from-nowhere  We are so ungrateful. She worked hard to find the gloves.
Tumblr media
I bet she had to click on another link to find them. She deserves another accolade.
ajw720 @flowersintheattic254 Budget Bearding!  I LOVE It! (and something tells me D’s SW costume in particular was far cheaper than either of these).
souly That Snow White dress can be found for about $25 in a ton of online shops. I stumbled upon it even before Halloween way too many times. 😂
@notes-from-nowhere The plush question mark block can be found in a couple online stores like this one. She simply glued it onto some gloves - or asked L to do it with that glue gun of hers.
flowersintheattic254 Well funnily enough I think we may have confirmation that 🚽🚽 glued on the puppies so I guess YES to the question mark block too!!!
Tumblr media
cassie1022 They can’t even glue things properly. Why am I not surprised?

Anonymous asked:
Whenever I see miarren gifset they always use the same quote underneath (the rolling the windows down quote) and at first I rolled my eyes and thought uh not that quote again, and I can't believe it took me this long to realise it's because there is literally no other quote that can be construed as loving. You can hardly put down "she's a big girl" whenever you make a set of gifs with M beaming and D looking like someone murdered the dog he's allergic to.
ajw720: And I love the Emmy quote as it was an absolute reference to his character who was a psychopath. Pretty telling if you ask me. But that reference is over their heads.
And pretty much the only one. Guess saying he’s a ball and chain kind of guy isn’t romantic. They can’t even take pooping exes as he clearly steered the conversation away from her. Lovely lady of many moons? Nah she sounds like a stranger. Saying nothing changes after marriage? Sounds boring. It’s a struggle. But hey she’s an excellent online shopper that he done got hitched to!!!

Miniature Bull Terriers
Temperament:
- Upbeat, Mischievous, Comical, Fearless, “Terrier fire”
Size:
- Height: 10-14 in @ the shoulders
- Weight: 18-28 lbs
Life Expectancy:
- 11-14 yrs
- activity levels tend to slow down around 11-12 yrs
About:
- Almost exactly like the Bull Terrier
- Square, muscular, strong for their size
- Large, egg-shaped head and dark, triangular eyes
Nutrition:
- In order to not change a dog’s diet too fast, find out what your new puppies diet was at the breeder’s.
- For a day or two a puppy may not eat because of the new surrounding, any longer than that; contact a vet.
- Don’t leave food down for a puppy if it doesn’t clear it.
- If the puppy experiences any other symptoms, then contact a vet
- If not, the puppy is most likely ‘training the owner’, bull terriers tend to do this, don’t put the food back down and continue with feeding normally.
- Follow breeder/vet advice on portions; bull terriers are sensitive to becoming    overweight.
- Ask your breeder for a natural method feeding chart
- Bull terriers have very powerful jaws and can chew off and swallow pieces of bones which can cause blockages in the digestive system.
- Don’t give your mini bull terrier bones
- Raw hide chews should NEVER be given to bull terriers (including minis!)
- They can be swallowed and get stuck in the throat
Grooming
- Minis have fast growing nails, regular trimming is needed
- Minis are prone to “eye boogers”, just use a damp clothe to wipe them away and then a dry cloth to dry whenever you spot these
- At home weekly ear checks, look for wax (use a cotton ball to gently remove any wax), or infection (redness, swelling, bad odors). If any signs of infection, contact a vet
- Regular teeth brushing and vet cleanings
- Regular baths (every three months, unless your mini plays in dirt or mud (which is not unlikely!) then use a bristle brush to remove dirt then bathe immediately.)
- Use a hypoallergenic shampoo, minis have very sensitive skin.
- Outside shedding season a weekly once-over with a soft brush or a hound glove is all that’s needed for a well groomed bull terrier!
- During the twice a year shedding season (spring and fall) a daily once-over is recommended.
Basic Brushing
You’ll need: a bristle brush, a fine-tooth comb, and a grooming glove
1. Use bristle brush, start at head and work down he dog’s body, ending with the hind flanks (the space between the hip and thigh) and the tail. Be gentle but thorough!
2. Use the comb, use long strokes to remove loose hair.
3. Use the grooming glove.
4. (Opt.) Spritz a little conditioning spray or rub on a bit of coconut oil
Exercise
- Mini bull terriers require enough exercise to keep good muscle tone.
- Preferably access to a yard but can live in a sizable apartment or condo.
- A moderate walk daily is needed after the 1 year point
-  NOT AN OUTSIDE DOG
- A “sudden lameness” can occur in puppies
- Puppies’ joints can’t handle the energy the puppy wants to exert
- Minimum exercise, no jumping up and down from heights, or sudden stops at high speeds for puppies
Training
- Minis will usually require a trainer with a firm hand and a gentle voice, with patience and a good sense of humor
- Clicker training is recommended
- Positive, light, and fun training that keeps the terrier’s attention is most effective
- Heavy socialization from 8-20 wks is essential, and starting training early is a good idea
- Canine Good Citizen programs are awesome!
- Some cool trainers listed by state below!
Health
Ask your breeder for:
- Health tests performed on sire and dam (father and mother)
- Results on heart and kidney issues, deafness, luxating patellas (a kneecap disorder), and primary lens luxation (dislocation of the eye lens) tests
Recommended Health Tests:
- BEAR Testing
- Kidney-Urine Analysis
- Opthalmologist Exam
- Cardiac Exam
- PLL DNA Test
- May have issues with glaucoma, lens luxation, and deafness
- Susceptible to kidney disease
- Regular hearing and eye exams are highly recommended.
Official Breed Club Health Statement
History
- Bull terriers were created as fighting dogs in 1830s England
- Cross between bulldogs and (now extinct) english terriers
-  Soon a mini version was worked on to use as above-ground ratters (it’s exactly what is sounds like.)
- Recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1991 as their 134th breed.
Other Future Owner Info
Energy Level: Energetic
Children: Better with older children
Barking: Likes to be vocal
- Can’t be home alone for too long
- Will get bored and tear apart everything
- They can suffer from separation anxiety which can cause nonstop barking and chasing of the tail incessantly
- Incredibly affectionate
-  Unneutered male don’t get along with other males

Love Without A Name
Chapter Four: A Bottle of Wine and Friendly Banter
Word Count: 1686
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Warning: Language, Sexual references
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Why did I invite you people over again?” I groan as I set the bowl of popcorn, chocolate, and chips onto the coffee table, glancing at the five people sitting around the room. “I’m supposed to be packing what’s left of my apartment.”
Celine reaches out for the bottle of wine that is haphazardly tucked under my arm, giggling. “Because you have to go over what is left of your to-do list for the wedding and needed people to talk to?”
Mae rolls her eyes and grabs a Capri-Sun from off the coffee table, locking eyes with me. “I think we were supposed to help, but more people showed up and brought food, movies, and alcohol. So those plans flew out the window?”
Alicia laughs, her back pressed against Graham’s side while they attempt to share a bean bag chair. “I think you needed the night off anyways, (Y/N).”
“Agreed, you seem to be a little stressed,” Graham nods, leaning forward as Celine fills his glass. “So, let’s all sit and watch these rom-coms and drink wine.”
I roll my eyes, noticing Vivian, who has returned from the bathroom, go to grab the wine bottle out of Celine’s hand. “Oh, no way in hell are you having another glass, Vivian. I don’t have an extra bed for you to crash on.” I tease, plopping down between Celine and Mae, my best friends.
“I only had a glass from the last one!” Vivian laughs from her spot, reaching for the wine anyways before taking her previous place in the arm chair. “Besides, Wyatt and I have drank more before and only get a little tipsy-”
“That’s because you guys have a high tolerance,” Celine giggles, her legs falling across my lap.
“‘Tisn’t a bad thing,” Vivian giggles.
Mae leans over and grabs the list off the table, “Okay, how about we go over that list so you can relax for the night, yeah?”
“Hit me!” I yell, letting out a squeal when Graham, Vivian, and Celine all throw pillows at me. “Guys I have a glass in my hand with red wine, that could have ended horribly! I still can get back my deposit for keeping the apartment in tip-top shape!”
“But it didn’t, did it. Plus, you told us to hit you so it’s your fault.” Celine giggles beside me, letting out a small 'hey’ when I push her legs off of my lap, only for her to replace them in their previous place.
“Fuck off, Cel.”
“Okay,” Mae states shaking the paper to straighten it out in her hands. “Catering?”
“Called this morning,” Celine states, making me laugh.
“Florist?”
“Taken care of,” I hum.
“Dress, including the latest fitting?”
“Bought and had my first fitting a two months ago. I have another fitting next week to do final fixes.” I state smiling at Mae.
“Wait, wait, can I see your dress, (Y/N)? Please, please, pleeeeeeeease?” Graham whines, folding his hands together and pouting his lip.
Giggling, I grab my phone off the table, also seeing that he had texted me a simple '2 more weeks, my love.’ I open the photo gallery and click on the latest photo of my wedding gown. The gown was not something I ever thought I’d wear. Tea cup length, with lace covering my chest and waist. The sleeves were off the shoulder, causing a straight neckline, and went down just below the elbow. The skirt was fluffy, and soft, the perfect fit for a late spring/early summer wedding.
“Baaaaaabe! You look stunning-”
“That looks beautiful on you, (Y/N)!” Alicia coos, taking the phone from Graham’s hand.
“What are you going to do for shoes?” Graham asks excitedly, bringing his glass to his lips.
“Not heels,” I giggle, “I want to be able to walk the next day.”
“Who went with you?”
Both Celine and Mae’s hands pop into the air. “Yeah, these two came with me. Also, both of their mom’s and Mae’s little sister Joyce. It,” I take the chance to swallow the lump that attempts to form in my throat before continuing, “it really meant a lot for them to come since my mom… wouldn’t.” The room is silent for a few seconds, they knew, and it had been hard not to call my family in excitement, or in some cases annoyance, whenever something happened.
Mae’s hand falls on my shoulder, squeezing it under her petite hand. “We were happy to be there, and you can thank Joyce for finding the dress-”
I let out a laugh, “Chose the complete opposite of what I was looking for-”
“But still looked beautiful!” Celine smiles, leaning into my side. “Now, back to the list!”
“Right!” Mae shakes the paper again, “legal stuff? (Y/N), what does that even mean?”
“I had to do a shit ton of paper work since I would be leaving the country. It was a mess.”
“You’re gonna come back, right? Visit all your favorite people?” Graham asks, tilting his head to the side while swirling the wine in his glass.
“Oh yeah, I can’t just leave and pretend I don’t have anyone here. It would drive me insane!” I bring my glass to my lips, sweet but tart sliding past my tongue, staining it red. “I’ll try and plan when I am coming so we can all get together again.”
“It’ll be a party,” Mae smiles, looking back at the list before pursuing her lip and looking at me with a raised eyebrow. “The next few are not in your handwriting-”
“Hazel,” I groan, tilting my head back against the couch in annoyance, “she asked to look at my list and said she added a few things before I left on Friday. What did she add?”
“Uh, and this is a quoted phrase, 'a day to find your sexiest self, lingerie that make you look like a beautiful, but boss ass bitch,’ and,” her eyes squint at the paper in confusion, “'a bottle of lu-” My eyes fly open and I snatch the paper from Mae’s hands, crumpling it and throwing it across the room.
“She’s a savage!” Vivian cackles as the group laughs as I give Mae an apologetic smile.
Celine lets out a soft, high-pitched hum, downing the last bit of her wine. Her hand is in the air as if to tell me to 'hold up a sec.’ She sets her glass down before standing, “That reminds me! I have something for you in my bag!”
“What did I get myself into?” I yell, looking at where her retreating body danced down to my room where everyone’s personal belongings had disappeared to when they first arrived. “And you remember that this bean is a virgin right?”
Celine comes bounding into the room with a single, long clothing box. “I had the luxury to be given the job of finding this. Hazel says she has a surprise for you too, but you won’t get it till another day. So, you can start with these pieces- oh, and I had Vivian help me find them too-”
“You’re welcome!”
My eyes look between everyone else in the room, who are looking at me expectedly. I sigh, a small laugh escaping at the end. I untie the gold ribbon and unravel the box. Once opened, my laughter grows a little louder. The card, that is definitely in Celine’s handwriting, says “IOU a soon-to-be favorite set of lingerie.” I pull the tissue paper away, only to replace it with a beet red face, “I am not wearing this-”
“C'mon, pull it out-” Celine giggles, her phone in hand, most likely recording.
“No way in hell, there isn’t even any fabric! It’s just all, strings!”
“It can’t be that bad, right?” Alicia looks at me. I raise an eyebrow at her before sighing and lifting the piece out, making the room fill with gasps and laughter.
“It’s not even-”
“What is that?!”
“How do you get that even on?!”
“That won’t even cover you-”
“Ya’ll need instructions to put that damn thing on-”
Once the laughter dies down, Celine shakes her head, “That’s not it, by the way.” A small 'thank God’ falls past my lips, “That was a gimmick. I asked the lady for something to prank you with, did it work?”
“I fucking hate you!” I laugh, throwing the ribbons at her. She only giggles and motions me to continue looking in the box. At the bottom is a silk robe, it probably only reached just below the butt, but it was light and soft to the touch. I turn it in my hands and notice the golden embroidered initials. The first and middle letters were mine but the second was marked with an H. “H?”
Celine tilts her head in confusion. “What?” She tugs the robe from my hand and gasps. “They weren’t supposed to put on the last initial! Hazel is gonna kill me!”
“Not if she doesn’t know! I won’t tell her!” I reason with a small smile.
“You had one job,” Graham laughs.
“It’s not my fault they didn’t listen to me!”
“It’s fine, babes.” I giggle, taking the robe back from her and smiling at it. “I love it.”
“Try it on, (Y/N)!” Graham states, Alicia nodding.
I giggle as I take it back from Celine, standing. I tug the oversized sweatchirt I was wearing over my head before replacing it with the robe. The room filling with soft gasps and 'ooos’. “God, I love this. Guys,” I look around the room, bringing my hands to my face to cover my smile. “I’m getting married!” The room fills with cheers, everyone giggling. I sigh, shrugging off the fabric and laying it over the arm of the couch. “How about we switch gears and we go get dinner, then we can go and, I don’t know, go to PetSmart and play with puppies.”
“I’ll drive, since everyone has had at least a little bit of wine,” Mae laughs.
The group smiles excitedly, moving slowly around to get ready to leave. Thank God for these dorks, he knows I would be lost without them.
I'm not really ready for the performative aspect here, but. Jade was helped to rainbow bridge this morning. She went peacefully, in bed and at home. We did what we could but with her congestive heart failure fluid had started building up in her lungs and she was starting to really suffer from it. Yesterday she spent a couple hours in my parent's backyard (where we used to live) enjoying the nice weather and soft grass. I stayed up with her all night and was able to give her some medication that made her comfortable, and by the time the vets came she barely stirred from her dozing. After dreading this day for so long I can say it went by with grace. We let our other pets see and later took Kayden to the park and the store for some food + treats. She'll be cremated and we should get her back Monday.
Tumblr media
Jade was born and spent the first six years of her life in a puppy mill, and when I got her I wanted to do my best to give her six years outside of that. She ended up being with me for eight, and was 14 years and 11 months old when she passed. A trainer friend at petsmart told me she's never heard of a Chin living that long. But it never is long enough.
Tumblr media
She was with me through graduating college, getting into and finishing grad school, and meeting the man who would become my husband. We were out on a walk with her when he proposed. She lived in four different homes with me, took a cross country road trip, and has been all the way to Niagara Falls in one direction and Arizona in the other. She cared far more for a soft place to nap than walks, always demanded more treats, and loved sunbathing. She was my desk gremlin and always stayed with me while I was working. I'm so glad for the time we got to spend together. She was my first dog and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Tumblr media
I love you, little mama.
Tumblr media
I'll see you again, someday. I promise.
Survey #209
Doggo survey.
What is your dog’s name? Teddy. What breed of dog is it? Cocker spaniel/beagle mix. Male or female? He's an old man and you can tell if u get my drift. :^) Birthday? November 1st. Have you had it since it was a puppy? Yes. If not, how did you get this dog? N/A What is your dog’s favorite toy? He doesn't care for toys. Never did much. Do you take your dog to the pet stores? Not anymore; I wouldn't really take him out anywhere due to his arthritis. Do you take your dog to the dog park? No; last time I did was for a photography class a few years back, and he just wandered around and pooped everywhere like son you do that in our backyard, there's no real point in taking him. Then again, see the above reasoning, too. Does your dog like riding in the car? No, but he'll get in the car if he knows he has to. He used to get motion sickness; he's in the car so rarely now that I can't say with certainty if he still does, but he definitely improved. Gone on vacation with your dog? No. Any very cool tricks they know? He used to be able to say please (our equivalent to the beg command), but he no longer can because of his legs. Does your dog like cats? He's totally indifferent. Do you have other pets? If yes, what? Another dog, a cat, a rat, a snake, and an iguana. Does your dog like other dogs? Like cats, he's typically nonchalant. He's dominant towards other adult males he's lived with, though, but doesn't actually portray aggression. He is pretty easily annoyed by super-energetic dogs like our other one though, but he very rarely lashes out; he just whines or growls quietly if he's being pestered. What brand of food does your dog eat? It varies. Do you give your dog treats? Sometimes. Do you take your dog to the groomer? No, we clean him ourselves. How often is your dog brushed? Oh god, like never. He needs to be though, he sheds quite a bit. He loves being brushed too, sooo I should really start making a habit of regularly doing it. Do you brush your dog's teeth? No. Is your dog fixed? Sadly, no, because apparently my dog having an enlarged prostate and needing to be fixed more than the usual dog wasn't enough to convince my parents getting him fixed was very high on our list of priorities. I heard "we'll get him fixed" every few months with no action. I mean we've struggled with money most of my life, but getting Teddy fixed especially when that issue was discovered should've been a MUCH more pressing matter. A load of other things could've taken the back seat, especially with that situation being a cancer risk. Now he's too old to have surgery. End rant here. Other than being fixed, has your dog had any other surgery? No. Has your dog ever ran away? A couple times when he was younger and keen on being outside smelling and marking everything. He'd sometimes fly through the door if it was opened enough. There was one snowy night in particular he ran off, and I was soooobbing because of it being dark and cold. My dad had to go out and find him. Every time he eventually came back in maybe less than 30 minutes, and each time scared the shit out of me. If we followed him, he'd just dash off if we got close enough. Has your dog ever won a contest? Yes, actually! As a puppy, we took him to PetSmart on their anniversary date, where they were having a little puppy tricks and training thing. Teddy won best trick with "say please." :') He could do it so well when he was young. Do you take your dog to daycare? No. Do you ever board your dog? No. Does your dog sing? Thankfully, he's no beagle in that category. Does your dog like to watch tv or movies? No. Where does your dog sleep? He usually starts off in my bed and ends up settling down for the night on the couch. Is this your first dog you ever had? He was *my* first dog, but not first family dog. Are you more a dog or cat person? I tend to enjoy dogs as companions more, but cats are more suitable for me. Do you dress your dog? No; I am nooot a fan of dressing dogs unless it's for warmth or comfort. Do you like to photograph your dog? Yes, though I don't do so a lot now because of my phone camera being actual shit. Has your dog ever bit someone? According to Mom, he nipped at her once for idk what reason, and he even did at me on one occasion when Cali was in heat. I grabbed his collar to get him off the couch to come outside, and I think I surprised him (I was behind him). He was an asshole during all that... He's never full-on tried biting anyone, though. Does your dog like kids? He's totally unfazed by them. Does your dog come when called? Not anymore; Mom and I are pretty sure something's up with his hearing. He seems surprised sometimes when you come from behind him and into his periphery, even if you were talking to him before he saw you, and he doesn't tend to start barking when we get home unless Bentley starts, and even then, sometimes he doesn't join in. Yet he also sometimes barks at what seems to be nothing??? Idk dude. Mom's mostly convinced he's just lazy, which I believe with his old age, but I feel like there's something more to it. On walks, are you walking your dog or is it walking you? When we used to go on walks, he was good about not pulling and actually being walked. Man, you used to say "walk" in a sentence and that pup would go bonkers. Do you walk your dog often? Not anymore for aforementioned reasons, and there's also the fact I would not DARE walk him along this busy road that people fly around the curve too fast. Does your dog play any sports? What? No. Does your dog like water? Oh boy, no. If it's raining outside or it's wet from previous rain and he needs to go out? Good luck. Does your dog live outside all the time? He doesn't stay outside at all. What color eyes does your dog have? Brown. Does your dog like going to the vet? Like with most things, he doesn't care. Any idea what your dog weighs? Around 25 lbs.? I can't remember, other than it's normal for a dog his size. Do you celebrate your dog's birthday? Absolutely!!! A peanut butter sandwich is a guarantee, and starting last year, I decided we've always gotta make chicken nuggets for dinner so he can have a plate. His favorite food on the face of the planet is chicken nuggets. Lazy as that dog is, he perks the FUCK UP when he smells them. Buy your dog Christmas gifts? Yeah, Mom gets the dogs treats. Why did you choose their name? My sister named him, ask her. Ever go visit shelters and see the dogs there? No. Can your dog swim? He's actually never been swimming. I should try that for him at least once though, as it's good with arthritis. Remember the first trick they learned? I'm sure it was "sit." Do you read to your dog? No. Ever wrote a song for your dog? No, but I did write a poem about him for school. Ever taken your dog on a plane? No. Is your dog a good listener? See above explanation on hearing. Scariest moment involving your dog? I can't remember the first instance all too well, but Teddy used to occasionally have these trembling episodes where he seemed to be having a mild seizure. His face would distort and he couldn't stand up. We never figured out what was wrong, I think, but he hasn't done that in years. Do they give kisses? So many. :') <3 Can your dog shake? Yes. Ever biked with your dog? No. What color collar does your dog have? Red. Is it microchipped? No. Does it have an ID tag? Yes, but the engraving is so faded, and the information is entirely outdated. Every time we go to the pet store and I bring up getting him a new one, I get the "it's too expensive right now" response. I'm getting one myself once I have a job. Is your dog just the best ever? You may think you have the best dog, but no, I absolutely have The Best Dog.
How to Pet Rats Steps
because rats are looked at so negatively by a whole lot of people I desired to make an instructable on the way to have rats as pets.
Rats are taken into consideration an amazing puppy and "gross" to some humans and without a doubt, I might say the equal aspect approximately tarantula's. It's simply no longer for me. However, they genuinely make outstanding pets. Rats are very shrewd, they like to research tricks, and that they may be brilliant cuddly! Keep in mind although that every rat has a specific character just like your dog or cat, or something animal you might have. You can not anticipate everyone to do the equal element or like equal matters.
The Perks:
1. Smart 2. Small three. Furry 4. Litter Trained
Step 1: Research!
It could be very critical to do a variety of research on what it way to have a rat as a pet. Because they may be no common pets you likely might not realize instinctively how to attend to one compared to mention... A dog or a cat.
Prior to getting my rats I did studies on WHERE TO BUY, How large of a cage they want, what they eat, health situations and lifestyles duration, and what number of to have.
Breeder:
The BEST PLACE to shop for your puppy rats is from a breeder who simplest breeds rats as PETS. Just like some other animal, there are awful rats and desirable rats. If you purchase from a breeder you're in most cases in all likelihood going to get a healthful and very friendly rat.
Shelter:
Another location you can buy your rats from is a refuge. Many human beings supply their animals to shelters whilst they are no longer able to care for their pets. You would be amazed by what number of pet rats are left at shelters. This can be an amazing and awful place to buy your rats. In this example, you may run into older/extra competitive rats and fitness conditions, just like ANY OTHER ANIMAL you may get from a shelter. If you're new to rats, I would now not advise this feature unless you're superb with animals. You might get lucky and accumulate a first-rate pal, however, you also would possibly come across some troubles.
Pet Store:
This is the maximum exceedingly debated alternative for getting your pet rats. Why? Because just like any puppy save your puppy rat comes from a pet mill that probably doesn't take correct care of its rats. They may additionally have mites or other fitness conditions as they're bred for MONEY, no longer care. However, I actually have two puppy rats from a pet shop that offered them as pets and the only trouble I've to stumble upon is mites, which are extraordinarily easy and cheap to treat, about $five to be specific.
Food:
Yes. Rats are sold as meals for snacks. Why? I nonetheless do not know. Gerbils and Hamsters are silly, so why now not use them as a substitute? Okay k, I'll be high-quality. ;)
You should purchase your pet rat from a pet store that sells them as food. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS. You may additionally feel like you are rescuing them, however, you may run into loads of issues. I even have/had pet rats this manner, one in all which I had to deliver away because I couldn't stop him from biting me. The different I nonetheless have. However, he receives in moods, similar to an aggressive dog or cat may, wherein you can only pet him a few times after which he will back up. He warns you, but if you preserve probabilities are he will bite. It's just a caution chew, he doesn't draw blood, but that is triggered from him being bored and stuck with different rats in an aquarium wherein they're handled like CRAP. He is an incredible pet, however once more, not encouraged for those which are new to or no longer precise with pets.
Space Needed: 2-2 1/2 cubic feet in line with rat (Males need the bigger amount of space)
There are several kinds of cages you could buy to your rats, but, I advise making one in case you do not need to spend the money shopping for one.
Most rat fanatics advocate Martin's Cages which are built especially for rats. You also can get them a really nice cage which includes a Ferret Nation/Critter Nation. We can all dream, right? :P
Accessories:
1. HAMMOCKS. Your rat desires hammocks and they may be clean peasy to make. You should purchase them, but again, costly! I've sewn mine some first-rate ones, however, if you don't know how to stitch (research) you may use vintage t-shirts, pant legs, rats, and many others.
2. CLIPS. You want a way to grasp your hammocks. Easy! Just go to the bathroom section wherein the bath curtains are and get a few shower curtain hooks, the reasonably-priced kind. You do not want anything fancy.
Three. BOXES! Ratties simply looooove bins. They are a smooth toy and you may use antique tissues bins, cereal packing containers, or any type and reduce holes, tape them collectively and WALA! A rattie rental complex.
4. CHEW LOG. Rats teeth grow... And develop... And grow. They by no means forestall. They have to have something to chew on and this could keep them from chewing on different things along with their hammocks or cage. You can get one at Walmart of Petsmart for pretty cheap.
Five. WATER BOTTLE, FOOD BOWL, LITTER BOWL. This is pretty self-explanatory, but I advise getting something with excessive partitions for your clutter and meals bowl. It will preserve it from getting everywhere. The water bottle needs to attach on the facet of the cage. A bowl won't work as they'll simply drag stuff into it and get the water grimy.
They are many alternatives for meals as rats can consume anything, however, you want them to get the right quantity of vitamins of their eating regimen.
Harlan Lab Blocks are a choice. Suebee's Rat Diet which can be discovered online.
You can purchase meals on the pet store, however, it is no longer the right amount of nutrients they need. They additionally need to be fed:
Fresh vegetables and fruit each day:
Carrots, inexperienced beans, apples, banana's, and so forth.
*NOTE* Rats can quite much devour whatever we will, but hold in mind what's healthy for US and most possibly that's what they have to eat. This is something you should do extra research on. If you're making the combination yourself (Suebee's Rat Diet) you may store A LOT of money. A lot. Just positioned the mix into massive bins and you're accomplished! :)
I need to stop beating myself up. There were so many factors that could have set knockout up for a terrible life, without me in it. She was born to a dog that was less than 2 and another dog who was three times her size from shitty owners. She was the literal runt who I was worried wouldn't live. Her funny proportions would've ended up hurting her in later years. her parents were both a behavioral mess. Her siblings were given out for free by the side of a petsmart without any vaccines.
I was 17 and she was my first dog. I bought dog training books. I pirated dog training books. I had her on the best food that I think exists and will always stand by, so her fur was always healthy. When she was a puppy i showed her so many things, I took her to school and socialized her and showed her many things, and many noises, kinds of people, as a puppy she was so unphased. I made all transitions as easy as I could. I taught her a lot of things and she was such a goofy, happy dog. I had a job and I did my best to pay for everything. I drove an hour out to the vet she liked for every little thing because I wanted her safe and happy.
Yes, I did make mistakes. I've yelled at her. I can count on fingers how many times I've even barely laid a hand on her. But I'm not perfect. I cant be perfect. Everyone loses their temper but nothing I did was something she couldn't forgive and something I didn't try to rectify. I never beat her and I never taught her that the route to good behavior was through fear.
So that's why it hurts so bad. To see this dog that I raised be so overcome with fear of everything, of seeing things that weren't there, of everyone even if she knew them and should trust them, to see her slowly spiral down despite my intervention and constant attempts to change her associations... what I did didn't matter. No matter how much, she could not physically remember things. She was forgetting a lot. She was forgetting so much, but I still blame myself. I want to be perfect. I wanted to be the perfect parent for her.
But I cant be perfect. Of course looking back I'll wish I was, and wish i had done something different, been a little more patient.
But the sad truth is that nothing I could have done would have fixed her. I tried medication, I tried changing everything, I tried being better, I tried but she kept going downhill. But I still see pictures of her happy, and I feel guilty because she can never be happy again.
But she can also never feel so terrified of the world that even I cant comfort her. She wasn't eating well. Sleeping well. She wasn't playing. She was hating more and more people.
And my vet at the time didn't believe me, because I was so young, she assumed I wasn't training right, that because she looked physically OK at the time (though I'm starting to really doubt that vets capabilities, how fast things got worse), I still struggled despite doing everything right... euthanasia has been on the table for over a year now, but I always hoped.
I hoped, in spite of her genetics, her disadvantages, her progressing illness, that I could save her. That I could be in control of that much.
But sometimes things are set up for failure no matter how deeply we try and no matter how deeply I felt and struggled.
The fact of it is I gave her the best life she possibly could have had with her background. She got to see so much of this world and got to touch so many people. She has an actual legacy, even if that legacy isn't on the level of millions. I know that she has impacted at least hundreds. I would even argue, from some of the anons I've gotten the last few years, that she has changed the course of some people's lives who shes never even met.
She saved my life, I saved her life. And I got to give her the most comfortable mercy and most respectful end. She was so tired, and if I had postponed it for my own comfort I would never forgive myself. But I still remember so much of her happy self, that I forget how much she was suffering. She was having less and less good days. And I would make excuses, i would blame myself, i would try to put her in the increasingly small amount of situations that brought her any kind of joy.
If I had kept her alive, medicated into effective lobotomy, just so I could hold her, I would be evil. If I had prolonged her suffering even a day just to scare her with my sobbing, while she could no longer react and alert the way she used to, I would never forgive myself.
I was afraid of judgment, of appearing like I'd given up, and that blinded me in some ways. I struggled and persevered and in the end, I and every professional and friend and family involved knows I would do anything, anything to give her what she needs the most. I changed my entire life to fit her needs. I did everything to make sure her life was grounded and comfortable and she had everything she could ever need.
That's why it's so hard. I gave her everything I could whenever I could and still, I see it as a personal failure. I still am imagining ways I could be perfect, but that's unhealthy.
The knockout I raised, when she was healthy and happy and able to understand her world, would want me to love myself. To laugh. To smile. To keep going. That knockout would not rest until I was safe. She helped me turn my anxiety into something I could capture and overcome. She gave me happiness. And I gave her the best life she could have had with everything stacked against her since even before day one.
Nobody can understand her like I did, intimately and deeply and there was something so immensely special about her. She and I were two parts of a whole. But she also showed me that her half of the whole was an entire world. That everything in this world around myself is beautiful and worth getting excited about. She used to love everything. She used to want to know everything.
She showed me how to love life. I cant disgrace her by refusing to love it now that shes gone. That would be worse than anything I could have done for her. My entire life feels uprooted, wrong, uncomfortable, distressing, but she changed my brain. If I forget all of that and dont get out of this, that would be the worst insult to her memory I could ever do. I have to remember what she loved and what she taught me by living and keep going.
I'll never have knockout, but I'll have everything she showed me and I'll have experiences she taught me not to be afraid of. She taught me to be strong and that I could be stronger than her even though she was the one who initially saved me.
It feels like Nothing can ever fill that part of my heart the right way, but that part of my heart is the whole world. Knockout is the whole world. She was my whole world. She showed me this world is mine and worth being in too. When she was happy and healthy, she loved everything about it. She thought everything was exciting.
And I have to apply everything I've learned and not put it all on me. We are part genetic and part experience. She had something clearly genetic that put the odds impossibly against her, in so many ways, and experience wasn't enough.
Shes gone but the world is forever changed by her presence. My world is. And this is my world. So she'll always be here. I'm allowed to see her in the things around me. And I have to make myself happy because if I dont then she'll be forgotten. Making myself happy is the best I could ever do and it's all she ever strived for.
I love you so much. You were the best girl. You were the best and you were a little bastard and you were so much in one tiny body. You were the best I've ever had, but thanks to you I get to find out that there are things in life that can be just as powerful and just as incredible. You were such a good girl.
Millennials and the Companion Animal Industry
Written by Shanley Ryan
6 December 2017
Tumblr media
Who Loves their Pets the Most?
Millennials have an infamous record of being one of the worst generations to a statistically significant amount of society. However, they are referred to by the companion animal industry as the world’s best pet parents. Some argue that since a majority of millennials had some form of a pet in their households growing up, they treat animals more humanly seeing them as an addition to the family rather than an animal. Others argue that the Baby Boomers have the most significant bond between themselves and companion animals. However, the millennial population has exceeded expectations and become the current number one pet owner. Research from “the global research firm GfK states that out of a total estimated number of 75 million people in the 18- to 34-year-old age group, roughly 35.2% own a pet”(Schein). Some of this generation has taken their relationship with their animal a step further and used them as a replacement for having their own family. Because of this altered human-animal bond, there has been a high demand for more pet products, services, and treatments for millennials to pamper their animals to their heart's content. This, in turn, has created more job opportunities for individuals interested in working in the companion animal field but who are uninterested in becoming a veterinarian.
Tumblr media
Companion Animals: A Brief History
“A companion animal is one that is dependent on humans, lives within close proximity to the owner, and has a unique bond with them”(Ali and Siegford). This term ‘companion animal’ allows many different species to be addressed rather than only felines and canines. Companion animals are more commonly known as “pets.” The word “pet” derived from the French word “petit” and was once used to refer to young children. In the 1500s the term was passed on to animals who were mostly runts born to livestock. Children received the role of caring for the runts and as a result, a relationship formed between the two. This bond saved the animal from being slaughtered and earned them special treatment. However, the tradition of pet keeping has been seen all throughout history. Early settlers that had crossed the land bridge to North America brought with them dogs. Those same Native Americans had an unusual relationship with their canines. Dogs started out as workers, companions, and guards or hunters. Europeans also brought their traditions of pet keeping when they crossed the Atlantic over to America. Cats were used to control the rat population on ships, dogs used for hunting, and birds and other small animals kept as pets by the travelers. Around the 1800s pet keeping was looked at as a respectable scientific hobby that brought nature indoors to the owner. It was viewed as a do-it-yourself practice because there were no premade pet products produced on the market. Margaret Shaw and James Fisher wrote the book Animals as Friends and How to Keep Them to inform novice pet owners how to build an enclosure, find or prepare food, and how to treat sick or injured animals. Julian Huxley warned in the introduction of the book that “the keeping of pets is a very desirable habit…it tends to make people more humane, to make them interested in animals…On the other hand, it is not always a simple art, and many pets undoubtedly suffer from misplaced kindness and mere ignorance”(Shaw). Huxley is portraying the idea that when owners do not understand how to treat an animal appropriately in accordance with their biology the animal may suffer. For example, different species of animals require specific living arrangements. If one was to only provide a carnivorous snake with only vegetation as its primary nutrition, the animal will suffer and could die without its required diet of protein packed meat. Mistakes similar to this instance can result in many animals living in unfit conditions that they are not adapt to. As pet keeping became more common after the first World War, the companion animal industry began to flourish when the availability of materials such as plastics allowed pet products to be mass produced. Premade pet products were only the beginning of the expansion of the industry.
Tumblr media
Companion Animal Premade Products
Over the years the variety and advancement of premade pet products has improved and increased to provide pet owners with many different options for supplies to spoil their pet children. A common trend seen in the millennial generation has been the increasing average age that a woman has her first child. One source states, “The average age of women having their first child was a record high of 26 years old in 2013”(Kincaid). Many experts attribute the result of this statistic to economic issues, interest in a career, inability to conceive, or other obstacles. However, Sara Livio takes the stance that much of the younger population has begun viewing their pet as a child replacement. According to her “the majority of young Americans increasingly identify themselves as ‘parents’ rather than ‘owners’”(Livio). Instead of committing to a child, much of the younger population has dedicated their attention as well as expenditures toward their four-legged family member. Many parents agree they want the best for their children. This ideal does not fall short of the Millennial pet parents that have emerged. As a result, more products have surfaced to tailor to the urge of spoiling their animals. A portion of these products incorporate technology to appeal to the technology natives of the younger generation. Some millennials go as far as buying a memory foam dog bed or even cameras equivalent to baby monitors with a similar purpose. Today it’s now possible to connect a mobile phone via Bluetooth to the monitoring cameras to view a pet away from home and even have a two-way video system. This system allows the owner to be seen and heard by the animal. There have also been some advances that even allow an owner to—with a click of a button—provide their pet with a treat. These purchases to some seem absurd, but the millennials continue purchasing advanced products similar to the monitoring system to indulge their pets. As a result, the pet industry has experienced a boom. "In America alone, people spend a whopping $44 billion and growing, annually, on pet food, supplies, and toys”(Livio). In an interview with the partner business owners of Chinchilla, a pet accessory business, it’s discovered that there is also a high demand for fashionable pet products. The materialistic millennial generation desire collars and leashes that match their designer purses or treat jars that complement the interior design of a home. Many have taken advantage of this demand including celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres who released her designer pet line in May 2017 in partnership with PetSmart. The strong human-animal bond the millennials are showing will continue to fuel businesses that are producing these luxury products.
Tumblr media
Veterinary Care
Millennials are also one of the most substantial driving forces in holistic pet care. Young pet owners desire to treat their animals with the highest quality treatment options available to them. There has been an increase in animal care professionals outside of the veterinarian office. A recently popular addition to pet care has been the animal chiropractic. Many owners use “chiropractic care for furry friends that have had traumatic injuries, surgery or lameness issues, such as arthritis, stiffness, difficulty walking or standing”(Halifax). Some individuals believe an animal could not benefit from chiropractic care, but for owners who have taken their pets for sessions, they see their best friends revert to their playful ways after only a few visits. Another common specialty is animal dentists. Some millennials who grew up sneaking their dogs treats under the table know all too well the adverse effects of plaque that does inevitably build up. To combat this, they have pet dentists they can utilize to their and the animal’s advantage. The desire to care for their beloved pets helps support specialists in the companion animal medical field.
Tumblr media
At-home Care and Animal Obesity
In addition to more veterinarian visits, millennial pet parents are searching for inexpensive at home remedies to satisfy their companion animals’ needs every day. One of the most common at home treatments radiates around the fight against companion animal obesity. Many food companies have adapted to this common trend by switching over to all-organic ingredients that promise to reduce obesity as well as the risk of cancer in pets. “According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, roughly 53 percent of dogs and 58 percent of cats in the U.S. are overweight or obese”(Kraft). This statistic is shockingly high, and interestingly enough it is proportional to the American obesity rate in humans. As Sean Delaney explains, the human-animal bond can have adverse effects on animals including the risk of obesity. For owners, it’s hard not to give into those puppy-dog eyes when they beg for a treat, and as a result, pets are gaining weight rapidly. Obesity in animals causes many health-related issues including a higher risk of cardiac arrest (Delaney). It’s in the animal’s best interest to lose the junk in their trunks by being put on a special diet. Who better to combat this rising issue than the health conscientious millennials. Products such as FreshPets all-natural refrigerator pet foods and more have been released in stores to provide easy access to a healthier alternative to high-calorie dry food meant for active animals. Unfortunately, these diet programs can be quite costly. Despite this, "Over half (51 percent) of pet product purchasers feel that natural/organic pet foods are more nutritious than regular pet foods, and 71 percent are willing to spend extra to ensure the wellness of their pets"(Schein). Owners today can also combat common health issues such as fleas, heartworm, and even dental hygiene by purchasing over the counter medication. These simple treatments can be administered to the animal by an owner safely. Often these medicines are used as preventative care to avoid health issues. Vaccinations are generally the primary source of preventative care a veterinarian can offer. The extra assistance of the, for example, HeartGard heartworm preventative monthly chew can help ensure an animal’s health. These medicines as well as organic foods prevent unnecessary veterinarian trips but also supports the companies that produce these products.
Tumblr media
Pampered Pooches
Over the years there has been an increase in pet care services that can go anywhere from acupuncture to massages. Although some may argue that services similar to these have been around long before the millennials became pet owners it is, in fact, the millennials that are taking advantage of them more than any other generation. "When it comes to their animals, 63% of millennials agree that pets should be pampered. Their purchased items and services often go beyond spending for necessities"(Schein). This trend is a result of the millennial generation seeking out these services to pamper their pets humanizing them a step further than past generations. A new trend seen recently has been the ever-growing market for pet spas. Here animal owners can treat their pets to a massage or acupuncture to improve their health by a different means. The massages help regulate blood circulation and soothe sore muscles especially in older dogs. These treatments can improve the wellbeing of an animal but are not entirely necessary in most cases. The close bond millennials have with their pets has allowed new pet care businesses to open their doors to an abundant clientele.
Tumblr media
Pet Hotels
For pet owners who want to go on a guilt-free vacation, there are pet hotels available to tend to their animal’s every need. More common than before there are specialty pet hotels that allow your pet to have a vacation of their own with other animals around them while the owner is away. It is quite costly but with the right amount of money one could pay for extra playtime, walking, and grooming services while the animal takes residence at the hotel. This service eases the minds of many pet owners who want to go on a vacation but are unable to bring their animal along with them. For those who don't wish to be separated from their pet at all during a holiday can find a pet-friendly hotel more efficiently than in past years. These pet-friendly locations can hike up the prices, but to the millennials who can't bear to part with their animals for a few days, it's worth the extra cash. Often these hotels will offer other pet services such as grooming, walking, or doggy daycare while the owner tours the town. Millennials who take advantage of this service help hotels such as these stay in business to cater to other pet owners.
Tumblr media
Therapy Animals
Another chapter of the companion animal industry that has grown in popularity has been the world of assistance or therapy animals. Although these specially trained animals are meant for persons with disabilities, the millennial generation has taken over and demanded more anxiety dogs. It is more common to see therapy dogs pop up on college campuses during stressful finals week or in Michigan State University’s case every Thursday night in the MSU library. Whether the need for more anxiety animals is legitimate is currently under debate, but there is still an increase in the service animal aspect of the animal industry. Many of the younger generation is trying to obtain therapy animals for mental disorders such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Because these terms are as broad as they are it makes it easier for non-disabled beings to obtain a therapy dog from either a doctor or online. Some may argue otherwise, but as “Vicky Nguyen of NBC reported on the matter: ‘People are posing their pets as service animals to give them an all-access pass to grocery stores, restaurants and other places where pets are not allowed’”(Daniels). To obtain a service animal, “a physician or mental health therapist must give you a letter of prescription in order to qualify for an emotional support animal. And if your therapist or physician won't give it to you, they will, online”(Daniels). What allows them to get away with this are the laws that were initially created to protect those that are disabled from disclosing their disability or being pressured into proving they have licensing for a service animal. These regulations even allow some to have their beloved pets pass as a necessary service animal without opposition by the public or those in authority. By having such a high demand for specially trained animals, trainers have been able to make a living preparing these animals for specific duties that assist persons with a particular disability. Unbeknownst to much of society service animals are not only limited to canines. Other animals including but not limited to monkeys, ponies, and even large birds are involved in the service animal world. This diversity of service animals adds on to the number of trainers needed who specialize in training a particular species of animal.
Tumblr media
Hypoallergenic Pets
In addition to the high demand for more service animals, there has also been a demand for hypoallergenic animals. Thanks to science today's generation has the luxury of owning their favorite pets even with a severe allergy. Unfortunately, some scientists believe hypoallergenic animals are merely a myth in the animal industry and the only way to combat animal based allergies is through medications. Despite this, there are canines and felines available on the market that claim to be hypoallergenic. Hypoallergenic pets have become common throughout the millennial's lifetime widening the pet options that are available to them. In 2007 a whole new species of feline was created to service cat lovers with one major issue: cat allergies. To combat this, hypoallergenic cats, a new addition to the companion animal world, are available for the purchasing. These cats are "genetically engineered without the protein that induces allergic reactions in humans"(Kubetin). This occurrence coincides with the animal-loving generation of the millennials’ and their parent's determination to get their hands on the fluffy felines without adverse allergic reactions holding them back. Since the millennials who had allergies to cats and dogs had the opportunity to grow up with a hypoallergenic animal, they are more likely to become repeat owners of these genetically engineered animals.
Tumblr media
Death of a Loved One
When the unfortunate time comes that a beloved pet has passed on, pet parents have additional funeral options available today. A common practice seen has been cremating a pet and keeping their ashes in the home. However, the immense love for companion animals has allowed the advancement of other options including holding a funeral service while also burying the animal in designated pet graveyards. If saying goodbye to a pet permanently is too troublesome for the owner the actions taken after a pet’s death can be drastically different. As seen on Animal Planet’s show in 2012 American Stuffers, owners of a deceased animal can have their best buds or gals forever preserved through a freeze-drying process that leaves the animal in a statue life-like state. If this idea is too disturbing to some, there’s also the option of having an animals ashes turned into gemstones worn as jewelry. Whatever the case, there are plenty of options out there to assist a pet owner who is going through the grieving process.
Tumblr media
Animal Careers
Many individuals are led to believe that the only available option for working with animals in the companion animal field has been only as a veterinarian, but the millennial generation has altered that reality by demanding different types of healthcare, products, and services that previously weren't available before. Their enormous affection for their animals has driven the expansion of the companion animal industry and provided more animal-related job opportunities to those that love animals but are uninterested in becoming a veterinarian. Chiropractors, dentists, and other medical related animal fields are available but for the person who doesn’t want to go through years of schooling producing pet products or services is a perfect route to keep in touch with the animal lover within.
Find Out the Best Hypoallergenic Dog Food for Your Pup
What is the very best hypoallergenic dog food? In fact, the response to that question is the true reason for this article. You might think it is to offer you a product, nevertheless, it really isn't. Our dog is definitely a dog that needs out of the ordinary ingredients with regard to remedying his emotional biting behavior. I do know that that sounds somewhat nuts: He's the Dog! Indeed, he is the Dog and furthermore we all really LOVE the DOG!
Being a rescue puppy, Joe has always been highly distressed as a result of maltreatment when he was little. That added to being a Labrador dog breed, he is definitely twice as distressed. His anxiety, in and of itself, is not the problem. The problem is that he has begun being aggressive when he is scared. That frightens us.
When we selected a Dog Behaviorist to help us with this, she set out emphasizing the dog food we use. Get Joe off JUNK FOOD. I didn't realize that there was such a thing as junk food for dogs. She responded by explaining this: Some dogs really are seriously sensitive to a number of things in their food. The average family pet person doesn't have any idea what they're providing their precious dogs if they buy the most inexpensive product in the market. If people were more informed, many would be mortified. Now that I understand a little on the subject of Hypoallergenic Dog Food, I am a little appalled and I also feel awful that many of Joe's struggles were because of the junk food I was giving to him. Live and even learn occasionally.
The Dog Behaviorist pointed out that we needed dog food with zero corn elements. Purchase food without chemical additives. Locate organic, purely natural, healthy food for him right now. Basically, put him on high-caliber, hypoallergenic dog food. Easier said than done, I found out. Even the avoderm dog foods Dog Behaviorist appeared to be loath to jump into the "Best Dog Food in the World" controversy. She literally just shrugged, "Read labels." Gee, uh, okay.
At this time being tethered apparently to the 20th century, I jumped into the "car" (it's at the least a Prius if that counts the slightest bit for driving a car and not just surfing online) and set out and about to the family pet retailer in order to acquire Joe some corn-free, chemical-free, nutritious, hypoallergenic food. I basically couldn't get hold of one thing I needed in Petco, PetSmart, or the Feed and Grain Barn Store, and I positively found nothing suitable at Target, Walmart, Safeway, or Raley's. Whole Foods displayed a couple small bag suppliers that cost a fortune. Do you know how much Joe consumes? Help! This big boy is eighty plus pounds.
AvenJuly Day 4
Workout: LEGS
Hulk does a lot of squatting and leaping. Let’s get those legs strong enough to shred through some purple pants, shall we?
AVENJULY GUEST STAR: @insertcaffeine !!
That’s right. Guest star. AvenJuly is shaking things up this year!
Jen was one of my first follows from about 3 blogs ago and longest friends on this little blue planet we call Tumblr. She works out! She balances fitness and mental health! She draws really cute chibi characters! She is slowly, kindly, patiently teaching her rescue dog (fondly called “the Asshole Brigade”), a feat that honestly would try the patience of the strongest person. Jen is a shining example of keeping a Bruce Banner cool in situations that most of us would Hulk out in.
Thank you so much!  Today has been one of the most frustrating days I’ve had in a long time.  I did the workout (OMG LEG DAY OUCH), which was actually the least frustrating part of the entire day.
I’ve had a 5/10 headache all day. (New followers, I have a herniated disc in my neck that causes chronic pain: headaches, muscle spasms, and neck pain. I am all about the pain scale.  0/10 is no pain, 3/10 is annoying but bearable, 5/10 is “I’d probably call in sick to work,” 7/10 is a huge problem and I’m going to urgent care, and the thankfully rare 10/10 means all I can do is scream and drop F-bombs)
I’ve been dealing with the Asshole Brigade and Momo’s very loud insistence that the End of Days is upon us.  I’ve been driving around town, taking Lynn to see relatives.  And I’ve been obsessively soaking the lawn, because the neighbors like shooting off fireworks and I like it when my yard is not on fire.
Continuing on!
Briefing
According to him, “Hulk loves puppies”, and one of the funniest ways Hulk has been reverted back to Banner is by playing with dogs. What’s your best cool-down strategy when you’re feeling frustrated?
GTFO! A break, a distraction, a change of scenery, or simply deciding that a particular battle is not worth fighting are great ways to deal with frustration.  Also, puppies. Hulk knows what’s up.
If I’m at work, I take a break.  If I’m home with the kid and we’re on each other’s nerves, we go out.  If I’m stuck somewhere and angry, I look at instagram. (My entire feed is cute animals) If I’m running errands and mad about it, I will literally stop at PetSmart and browse and pet people’s dogs.
Now, I have a headache.  There’s no escaping from that.  So I’m distracting myself, watching replays of Summer Games Done Quick.
I’m also throwing everything I have at the headache. I’ve taken Aleve, done PT, had both caffeine and tons of water, eaten healthy foods, and taken muscle relaxers. Next: cold pack!
After a distraction, after a break, do what you can to solve the problem!
