my favorite genre depends on the medium

movies? scifi/ thrillers

books? fantasy

audio plays? horror

#i have a reason for each one #scifi imo works best in movies because of the grandness of the scales and the visuals of technology and space simply do not compare #cinematography like lighting staging and set design truely make scifi and thrillers work the best #fantasy needs the imagination that is only brought by books the readers own mind fills in the picture to create a magical world #horror works best in audio because it combines the imagination aspect of books with the sound scaling used in movies #background music and sounds set the tone creating an eerie feeling #monsters are only heard their visuals are left to the imagination #horror movies work best if the monster or killer aren’t revealed and remain only in shadows and obscured #once a monster is revealed visually they are not scary anymore and that’s why audio horror just works better #the magnus archives #tma #malevolent #scifi #fantasy #horror

rewatching nope (2022) today bc it's my day off and god everything about this movie is sooooooooooo. it's so good. truly can't remember the last time I was in a theater kicking my feet giggling bc a film was so well put together like truly every other minute I was staring at the screen in awe like holy shit they did that!! how did they do that that is so cool!! the sound design, the set design, the characters, the THEMES and the NARRATIVE, the blocking in certain scenes. THAT FUCKING ALIEN girl I'm sorry I'll never be normal about this movie

#the way the plot sorta spirals in on itself. u have this thing which relates to this thing which made this happen #and it all just keeps spiraling inward bc even tho they're all different scenarios they are all actually exactly the same #the cinematography choice....... blank hallways and first person pov and the SOUNDSCAPING #the dead silence with just one ambient noise in the background to make it feel off enough that you're like uhh what's happening I'm scared #the HERO of this movie and the way he only won bc he understood animals and knew how to treat them fairly #and yet he and his family still contribute to the spiraling narrative of in the way they try to capture jean jacket on film #2023 best picture winner TO ME #text post #nope 2022 #horror tag

I’ve seen less films this year so I don’t have many opinions besides ones I’ve had based on other people’s thoughts but

Emilia Perez got too many nominations (should’ve gotten zero)

I’m happy Sebastian got nominated for an Oscar (but I wish it was for his film a different man)

And I hope timothee wins best actor because I think it would be poetic

wish Daniel Craig got nominated for queer and I’m very surprised challengers didn’t at least get a soundtrack nom

Whoaaaa Challengers for Score!!! Who are these people and what have they done with the Globes???

#I mean GREAT but I guess I was thinking of the Academy (which I really do not see as hip enough to give it to challengers)#but yeah I guess the Globes are different #(for those unaware -- the Oscars nominations are voted on by specific branches in the industry #the directors' branch votes for the director nominees #the actors' branch votes for the acting nominees #the cinematography branch does the cinematograpy noms and so on and so forth #and everyone can vote on the nominations for Best Picture #but once all the noms are in then everyone can vote in all categories #which is why you get some out there nominations in the tech categories that most people have not seen #but the people who are in the industry in fields like editing or sound design or cinematography have #but the actors' branch is the largest branch in the Academy and they vote differently #The Golden Globes are a critics/journalist awards base not an industry one but apparently they have REALLY shaken it up #also different branches in the Academy have different rules #The director's branch for example only gives voting privileges to people who have had at least one movie in the past decade to keep it more #current. The score branch is EXTREMELY old-fashioned. Which is why I don't think the Oscars are cool enough to recognize Challengers in #score bc they rarely nominate electronic scores #see them nominating Indiana Jones of all things last year #but then again everything is apparently chaos I just don't see the GG as being predictive this year #the way they more or less were last year)#lior liveblogs awards season
