Bug-a-Bye and Goodnight

I came across some theories about this song, and wanted to look at it in depth.

We are reading with the understanding that he may be referring to Eddie.

[A gentle piano and bassoon track begins playing.]

The sun is low, it’s cold and dark,— end of season, but could also be a reference to night and danger after dark

Just wind and snow, I must remark,

The bugs all head to slumberland,—interesting given the use of toyland, also the commercial about remderem/insomnia (some must sleep but Wally is in the opposite state. Too aware?), but could be a reference to death, like “the big sleep”

Some might find it sad, but I understand,—on face value, he will miss his friends, but knows that it is inevitable.

Even if I might not be able to see you,—can’t see Eddie because he is gone/buried

I know it’s for the best, I can’t keep you,—Eddie staying would lead to serious consequences for Eddie

It’s time for all of you to get some rest,—after what we saw Eddie go through, I bet he would be better in a different state

To tuck you all into your arthropod nests,—bug stuff; also Julie's hibernation?

At this point, those last few lines could refer to a sort of death for Eddie. Almost like frank can preserve him in some way by giving him a death in this universe. If we are talking puppet world, which we did see in commercials, most of Eddie’s anxiety happened in that state. So, can Frank give Eddie a suspended or death like state in one of the layers of reality and he is preserved in storybook world or our real world?

With one last check, that nothing is amiss,

I can see you safe into your chrysalis,—this reads that he will put Eddie into a different state of being that he can come back from. The coming back is my interpretation only at this point because I assume frank wouldn’t choose death for him or would for sure be hurt by Eddie’s death. Things would have to be very bad if true death is a better option for Eddie.

Also, it hearkens back to the horror butterfly image. Another also, caterpillar to butterfly, an insinuation of emedging into a new form. I don’t see allusions to Howdy in here, but I suppose it is possible that this could refer to more than one neighbor and Frank is taking them all out.

As you snuggle down into your dirt,—reference to being buried?

I want to assure you that I won’t be hurt.

This clarifies that it is a sleeping type state, not death. Ok, here is we’re Eddie’s Halloween costume comes in. Frankenstein, changed from the Scarecrow in earlier art (presumably from wizard of oz). Interesting thing about scarecrow vs. Frankenstein is that we see scarecrow taken apart during that film and Frankenstein is famously assembled from parts of different people. Interestinger is the fact that they are both afraid of fire. (I love that Young Frankenstein shows up more than the original in a search.)

Frankenstein (and scarecrow) are both put back together, but for Frankenstein it seems more of a new being, not just a reassembling. Frankenstein (aka frankenstein’s monster) is a thinking, speaking individual that was horrified at the situation he was in. Frankenstein in the book murders to punish his creator for the immorality of creating him and the resulting loneliness that the monster feels. As such, the choice is very interesting. If the puppets of welcome home come to be aware or sentient, I wonder how they would feel about Ronald Dorelaine or their situation?

If the movie version is the focus of Eddie’s costume choice, then he would be a potentially thinking and feeling being (he is afraid of fire), but without further evidence we don’t know his thoughts.

Scarecrow is a guy without a brain, with the power of speech, so a kind of opposite. I think they all end up just needing to be confident, which is why some shyster from the Midwest is able to help. This almost seems to be more in tune with Eddie's character--Eddie has a tendency to appear kind of ditsy, is constantly being dismissed by others. In the end, we find out he is actually smart but lacks confidence. I can see that being true for Eddie as well.

If I had to pick out a character for Frank, it would be the Tin Man. Poppy is the Cowardly Lion, Wally is Dorothy. Home is Home. There are more parallels here than I was expecting. Howdy is the Wizard, Julie can be Glenda, and the Wicked Witch...is kind of no one? Sally can be a flying monkey. She works my nerve. Also, the whole spying thing was done by the monkeys in the movie.

But now that I am thinking about it, this comparison makes a lot of sense, in terms of the complex relationships, as well as the levels of reality that you find in Wizard of Oz. A big event leads to a shift in the understanding of reality, and the lead finds themselves in a very colorful world that doesn't much resemble their own, but is very flashy, has songs, beloved characters, and a sense of danger. There are some things when thought about in the context of real life, or the black and white portion of Wizard of Oz, would be truly frightening.

Of course, Wizard of Oz shares a lot of parallels with Alice in Wonderland, which also seems somewhat related. In terms of source material, the Wizard of Oz is considered to be a parable that expresses the thoughts about US economic policy in the 1890's. It isn't super related, and not everyone believes that this is the case. However, it seems to be a very American type story, no matter what you believe, that touches on the experience of normal people while much larger forces lie and fuck around with everything.

As the holidays begin to approach,

I gently kiss, each and every roach,—kisses for Eddie. We have seen a realistic roach on the secret page with the mishmash of one script where Wally is deciding what to draw

I made sure to keep, my garden cozy,

So you can safely sleep, in fallen posies,—this whole stanza shows a desire to and promise of a quiet death and maybe even a maintained grave. I looked up posies to see where Eddie could potentially be buried. Posies refer to a nosegay, or small bouquet of flowers. It was a Victorian secret code thing, a way to declare love or even reject people based on flower and color. One that sticks with us in the form of red roses signifying love. On the map, there is a cluster of yellow flowers to the side of Frank’s house. Not sure this counts as his garden, since it is on the other side of the house. Julie has a group of flowers behind her house, but once again, not his garden. No fallen flowers that I can ID.

When googling posey, this is what comes up. I felt that there was a flower called a posey, and these do look like the big yellow flowers by Frank’s house. If any flowers fall in updates, I am going to assume someone is buried there.

There is also the ring around the roses rhyme, which could relate, but I don’t really see a correlation.

It’s time to get comfortable in your honeycomb,

take your winter intermission in your garden loam,—dirt, burying again

neatly nestled from the cold in roots and rhi-ya-zomes, — cozy dead

sleeping side by side under stately stones,—2 dead? Headstones is the link I make there--OK, now look at the pic! (I know, it's a reach.)

…And I’ll be inside of my home,—frank is staying to oversee something. It reads like calming the person who will die. This seems to bolster that arguments that I addressed in the post about bugs on the previous website, that Frank is working against, or at least parallel to Wally. With the bugs, the whispering to Eddie, and using his first name, I think it is reasonable to suggest that Frank is working against Wally and/or Home.

Another potential clue is the hidden video with the clothespins where 1 is upside down. I have theorized that it is a reference to Barnaby dying, but it could be Barnaby and Eddie. Only one clothespin is shown upside down though, so Barnaby or Eddie?

Regardless of how I feel you need to go away,

I’ll be the one to tell you, you just can’t stay,—he likes bugs but this is extreme of Frank, if he is talking about actual bugs

Thankfully I lack a sentimental sensibility,—true that, he generally seems calm.

I enjoy my Methodical Mundanity,—why is this capitalized? I looked and looked but I can’t find the origin of this phrase, though it came up a few times in random posts and articles. Clown does have a tendency to capitalize things that seem random. Me below is also capitalized. I listened as well, and I have to wonder why the singing is so bad? I don’t think the voice actors are bad at singing, seems like a deliberate choice to have reedy and unsteady vocals, pitch issues and pacing problems.

Where all that’s left is… Me.

So, this is a bit extreme for a song about hibernating bugs. I think that given our many references to bisecting or otherwise putting people into pieces (Eddie butterfly horror, frank in a pile of body parts, look I made a dog, and slinky Barnaby, now Frankenstein and Scarecrow) that we could be looking at death in a sense that works in one layer of reality. You disassemble a puppet, it is no longer a puppet. So what if Frank = Frankenstein and Eddie is Frankenstein’s monster? Frank can take him apart and put him back together in puppet reality?

If I had to guess, I am sticking with my working theory. Frank, as the smartest guy in the neighborhood, is the resistant force in the neighborhood. Wally/Home is/are the catalyst for the scary stuff. They are central to everything, physically and otherwise.

I have mentioned that in the last update, Sally and Poppy have the appearance of spies or managing Eddie. Given that Poppy doesn’t attend to party, I am anticipating that Eddie was isolated and watched by Sally during this planning period, where Wally and Barnaby walk the neighborhood to find out what Homewarming is. Given that it is said that Wally and Home instigated Homewarming, it is strange that everyone knows what it is except for Wally. It reads more as an attempt to achieve a goal, despite everyone knowing about the holiday. Even Julie is at the party, and she is supposed to be hibernating. Well, they don't say exactly when Julie hibernates (maybe there was something about her doing it after the holiday?) Anyway, Poppy isn't at Homewarming. She could be at home, but the book stating that they are all here seems like an attempt to cover up her absence. What is she doing? Snooping in the Post Office while Sally watches Eddie? Does Eddie want to go home for not feeling well or he has an idea of what is happening while he is gone?

Maybe Frank sees his boyfriend and comrade at arms about to get hit with something bad, so to preserve him and the opposition, he is going to disassemble him (cue Johnny 5) for protection.

In the past, Sonny (the Brazilian bird) was cast as the opposition to Wally, and included in a relationship with Frank. This work in particular comes to mind:

Clown has stated that they removed Sonny from the project due to the story changing from one with a hero, to one without, as that wasn't the story that they wanted to tell. What if, though, instead of Sonny being written out for the hero reason, there was another reason? What if we are seeing Frank taking on being the neighborhood's savior? He is just snarky enough to make it seem less like a hero situation and more because it was impacting his garden.

How do you feel about the portrayal of plurality in Homestuck? Because it’s not good.

Cherubs are “supposed” to predominate over their other personality. With Calliope being portrayed as naive for trying to co exist.

Horuss is mocked for being a system. But I’d say it was a king fun of people who pretend to be mentally Ill on social media for clicks.

homestuck is one of the best pieces of media of all time for plurality and i fuckin mean it. no shot do not pass go i have NEVER seen anything that is more built from the ground up to Support plural reads. like, to the point where it feels impossible to read homestuck without it.

as a work dealing with two huge primary themes of a) finding yourself/identity/growing up, and b) ideas coming to life, plurality is pretty much the Perfect intersection between the two of them. like.

take rose for example.

rose is plural and it's great.

when the doomed timeline evaporates, future dream rose does not actually "cease to exist." she ceases to exist as her own person -- her memories, experiences, personality, thoughts (or, as shorthand, her selfstuff) all flows back into rose prime. and that experience is just something rose has to roll with. one becomes two -- that other rose is still in her mind.

jade's plural and it's great.

when her dream self awakens as jadesprite, jade has a horrific argument with her. if you're plural i'm sure you understand. fighting with an age-regressed version of you, stuck in a traumatic past, who WONT FUCKING LISTEN -- we've all . been there.

she has involuntary barks, she can't stop seeing images of fire, she wants to go back to nonexistence but she doesnt want to die and it's torture,

and then in cascade, jade fuses with her.

dream jade is still in there. that part of her she has to grapple with is still real. her dog who she loves is in there, too -- but, yknow. woof

then grimbark gets forcefully introjected into her. i've seen a few fics play with the idea that the grimbark personality is still residually there (read ygtpoasu), but it's not a huge thing that's explored in the text. more backgrounded. but still! her crisis of identity is in there.

tavros's plurality is like, a pretty big factor in his character!!!! it's one of the bigger points vriska uses to bully him with (because she's projecting because she's projecting because she's projecting, because she's also plural and kins mindfang), it's like. a big thing that he has to cope with and figure out.

kanaya suggested tavros treat his self-confidence as his own brain guy, like, completely sincerely. she genuinely thought it would help, and it sorta did!!!!!

it is FAR from the only positive example of plurality in the comic.

like. look at sollux and aradia defending "alternate reality copies" of characters -- which can be pretty easily extrapolated to them talking about fictives

Because I was too slow and too fuckin’ deaf to hear him comin’. And I saw… I saw a man kill his own brother to save her while I just watched. And today I thought that dog was gonna tear her apart because it smelled somethin’ on her. And all I did was stand there. I couldn’t move… I couldn't think of anything to say. I just… I was so afraid. 

You think I can still handle things, but... I’m not who I was. I’m weak. Lately, there are these moments where the fear comes up outta nowhere, and my heart… feels like it’s stopped. And I have dreams. Every night. 

I don’t know. I can’t remember. I just know that when I wake up, I've lost somethin’. I’m failin’ in my sleep. That’s all I do. It’s all I’ve ever done… is fail her again and again.

FULL MASTERLIST OF PEDRO CHARACTERS DIALOGUE

S1E1

Q: What makes this episode so fuckin good?

Well, kind of everything.

As any good narrative should, this episode sets up (even if briefly) a normal, apple pie life, and then disrupts that normalcy in a big way. There’s this sense of dramatic irony as the viewer catches on to the foreboding feeling the show is doling out (flickering lights, the MUSIC, etc) and the characters remain unaware until it’s too late. Then, the best moment of the introductory scene, “Take your brother outside as fast as you can.” I really feel like this sets up the entire premise of the show, a thematic motif if you will, wherein Dean is his brother’s keeper (KIN).

The next segment of the episode sort of repeats the disruption of normalcy, settling the viewer into Sam’s life at school while creating this intrigue by setting him up as the estranged golden child. Then we get Dean’s introduction (which is the best fucking character intro possibly ever), aka the disruption of normalcy. I could talk about this for literally ever, but for now I wanna focus on one thing in particular: the dialogue. The writer's are presented with these complex characters and history and have like one scene to start revealing the important shit that sets up the rest of the episode, and they do that via clever, efficient dialogue between Sam and Dean. Most everything they say to one another either reveals plot or characterization, and does so in a way that feels really natural. My personal favorite thing about the dialogue is how it sets up this recurring theme of the struggle between wanting a normal, 'apple pie' life, and being unable to have it (and each brother's feelings on the subject, which makes me crazy). The dialogue for the rest of the episode is equally good at revealing who each of the brothers are, and how they were raised.

Now I'm gonna fast forward to the end of the episode, not because the rest of the episode isn't great (it's really great), but because the way the episode ends is a big part of what makes it stand out so much to me. Jess's death is the perfect example of a character death being necessary to move the plot forward. The show would not proceed the same way at all without her death happening when it does and the way it does, and the way it brings the episode full circle is just... as a writer I could actually piss my pants thinking about it.

In my opinion, while the middle bits of the episode are really good, its truly the beginning and end that make the episode such a stand out. It's the perfect introduction to the series, laying out enough information to let you know what's going on while still keeping a few cards close to the chest to keep you intrigued. I've already watched the whole series more than once, and every time I come back to this episode it's just really, really fucking good.

Loves watching OPM because he loves how unbothered Saitama is and wishes he could be like that, and also wishes he could be as strong.

He likes the books more but also loves the anime. I added Parasyte too because this man is a sucker for all types of body horror and I think Parasyte should always be mentioned. Just lord help us after this man's mind starts working when watching his favorite body horror animes. You'll here a mix of screams from the poor characters and Yippees! From Medic as he watches the horror.

I think this is everyone's starter anime, but it just happens to also be Scout's favorite. I can't tell if he'd think Light is a genius or insanely stupid. But that's not super important. Loves Ryuk! He'd want a death note just to have Ryuk hanging around the base. This man would be a menace if he had the death note honestly. He'd probably write his name down first just to label it, forgetting he'd die.

It's not even funny how much I can imagine Sniper in this anime. Surprisingly, I feel a tad confident about this analysis. I'm familiar enough with each of these little goobers to feel like I've gotten a good grasp on what your own goober-ness looks like. But, nothing can be proven just yet. So why don't I depict what I think your background looks like first, hm?

"LORE":

There's one pattern that's abundantly clear throughout each of these characters: you have always managed to be the second option. The abandonment issues are undeniable, and a little concerning. Tell me, have you always felt like the "best friend"? The supporter? The healer or the cheerleader, maybe? Player two? It's like you've never been able to live solely for yourself. There's always somebody who needs your attention, but for some reason they never seem to give that same attention back to you. You're probably just used to it by now, though, the hurt never really eases each time it happens.... When is it your turn to be the main character? When will it be your story? Those questions have plagued you for as long as you can remember.

Adding onto this, I think you care deeply for people, to the point where you've likely been taken advantage of in many instances. You've probably had to learn to stand your ground, but even now you'll have to remind yourself what your limits are sometimes. You try to give your best to people, but sometimes people use it against you. Sometimes it drains you completely, until you have nothing to give. Sometimes you may accidentally hurt them, and the guilt is everlasting. Sometimes they just don't give you anything back. In fact, that seems to happen a lot, doesn't it? Why has it always seemed like people can never give the same back to you? What did you do wrong? The rejection sensitive dysphoria is really showing... And I'm assuming there's a sense of people pleasing buried inside you as well, am I right? It's sad to see. It's sad to watch your brilliance stripped from you like that. To watch you get dragged by people who can't recognize your value. You never deserved that. You still don't.

I feel like your parents play a part in this as well, or rather the emotional absence of them. I don't think they were physically absent, or particularly abusive in how abuse is typically depicted, but they don't seem to really be... there? I could be wrong, and looking too much into small details, but I think it's worth noting. Maybe they've given you expectations that you were simply never able to reach, and it caused small drifts. Maybe they were always just a bit pushy in general. And maybe they were just never good at handling emotions themselves, let alone handling the emotions that were in you. Random question, but have you ever felt trapped inside their home? Trapped by their own opinions, maybe? I can't be sure, but I can guess something along those lines has happened once or twice.

I think I could guess a few other things as well. Let's take a closer look at what's bouncing around in your head. I'm curious..

THE TRUTH:

Ooouhh.... you cry a lot, or you have cried a lot. Either way, you might've been labeled as a "cry baby" or "sensitive" in your very-young years. Or you've probably ended up crying in bathrooms at events like prom. I can imagine it must've taught you how to get better at masking and hiding emotions, but they never go away. Except.. sometimes they do..? Sometimes it feels like a numb void, but even numbness carries a weight of sadness that is too heavy to be released in just tears. It's confusing. It's beenconfusing. And it's been unfair. And yet, it seems like you always believe "toughing it out" is what will solve this pain. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but whether I'm wrong about it or not, I think you should be reminded that you never deserved to be forgotten about. I know "toughing it out" feels like the only solution, and in a way, it kind of is, but that's not the point. It shouldn't be on you to alter yourself to fit the world's perceptions of what's "good human" and "bad human". Be human. All of it. Stop cutting parts of yourself to satisfy people who can't experience hunger.

I'd like to touch back on that thought of "people never give the same back to you". I feel like that's probably what caused you to shut out so many of your emotions. Maybe it's caused you to become more attached to your interests and hobbies. People can hurt you, but your favorite tv shows can't. Your favorite cartoons aren't going to comment on your lifestyle and insist that you're doing everything wrong. I think that's what's added to the daydreamer inside of you. Daydreaming and storytelling has become a safe haven for you. Characters have treated you more like a friend than almost everybody else. Maybe things have gotten better by now, but I don't think it's improved by much. Something feels like the issues you've had in your younger years have just been reshaped in your present life. The loneliness has been patched, but never fully filled. Maybe it never will be. But one day, the patches will be enough for you, and loneliness will simply be solitude. It's okay to be alone.

In fact, why don't I try and outline some of the best parts I can see in you? Loneliness becomes a lot easier to deal with when you realize just how great your own company already is.

YOUR BEST TRAITS:

You're a great supporter. Now, I know with everything else I've described, that can sound a little insulting, but I assure you it's not meant in that way. Yes, it does mean that you are able to greatly support others (which I'm sure you already probably know and might not like being defined as), but it also means you can greatly support yourself. Being good support does not define you as the supporting member. It means you can be a compassionate leader. It means you can keep getting up even when your legs are beat from being pushed around so many times. It means you have the ability to support you. Of course, don't take every challenge on alone, but know that you are far from useless when alone. One day you'll realize that being "the weak link" was always your strongest ability.

I feel like you're pretty sentimental too. It's probably because of how much you value the interests that have helped you at your lowest points, but either way, it's a valuable trait to have. The ability to care deeply for such small things shouldn't be overlooked. It shows your empathy for the world, and your appreciation for the things that most would turn a blind eye to. You care when others don't, and that is beyond important in a world that discourages any form of care. Maybe you've been told to not care so much, and maybe that's prevented you from expressing it outwardly, but if you can care, you should take advantage of it. Who knows, maybe you're the only person left who can care anymore. Don't let them take that away from you. It was never a weakness.

I also feel like you wouldn't back down from standing up for the things you care about. Even if it's through a more quiet method, you still stand up nonetheless. And in a way, quiet determination can be far more impactful and oftentimes it's necessary. You're smart. You know when to get loud and when to hold your cards close. It's unfair that you've had to learn that the hard way, but you understand it nonetheless and it gives you the opportunity to use it for the best. The world needs more people who are willing to care and fight for the right to keep caring. Prove that all your "mistakes" were worth something. Show them you were always worth something. You are the archangel hiding behind the shadows of your wings. Stop suppressing your own light.

i just finished reading the first book in the Tale of Magic series(it's called "Tale of Magic"), the prequal to the Land of Stories series, and i think it's actually quite interesting, at least in the aspect of Madame Weatherberry.

see, it's a common trope among books to show characters, especially the mc, to reject the lifestyle of hatred and choose to be hopeful and nice and all that, but this book, while it does that exact trope with Brystal (the main character) it also does the exact OPPOSITE with Madame Weatherberry.

correct me if i got some parts wrong, but Madame Celeste Weatherberyy was obviously very strong in magic, and even at that time, there was a lot of hatred towards the magic kin, and she saw this, but didn't choose to act on it, insetad choosing to take the more common high road, where they choose to stay above the depraved depths of people who choose to act on the hate in unhealthy ways, and stay above it all. But see, where it gets interesting is that it. . .doesnt really work. Like, she TRIED but she still ended up hateful and spiteful and literally transformed into a murder machine that was her best representation for all of the hatred and anger she had had directed towards her even when she was just a child, just because she was magical.

now, in the end, she/the ice queen are sent off, far away from humanity, too some distant mountain, so that she can't harm anyone else. Now, this is all pretty stereotypical, but i thought it was interesting that the author chose to show what happens when someone internalizes all of the hate, and doesnt deal with it, but still presents them in a (realitevly) positive light. like, yeah, the snow queen was slaughtering folks and all that, but Madame Weatherberry was shown to be kind and loving, and i think that's a good representation of the double-sidedness that can be found in people.

i think that i am hateful and embittered, with a lot of anger bottled up that i occasioanlly deal with by lashing out at people with and just generally degrading the quality of life i experience, so i liked seeing someone who was a major character, who wasn't the villain, and wasn't the main character who heroically fights of the evilness of hate and all that. that's bullshit and i hate that trope. i think, for once, we should have a mc who EMBRACES the hatred and USES it. like, hatred can be used for more than what caused it, you know?

also, i know this might be obvious, but i think that this series might be an alagory for the homosexual experience. like, people are hated for being the way they are(homosexuals and gender queer), and the reason for that is that there is a holy religion (christianity, catholcism and islam, perhaps?) that says that it is immoral and frankly, disgusting to be that way, and there are places you can send your kids to "fix" them (conversion therapy). now naturally, this theor doesnt hold up everywhere, like how the Book of Faith is changed to fit the men's narrative and agenda (the bible isn't changed, which i assume is what this analogy is suggesting) and there are several other things that don't fit, but my theory is further suppoted by how in book three, i think, Xanthous confesses to Emerelda that he's gay, so i actually do think that this series is meant to be a representation for the homosexual/gender queer experience.

Oh!! Okay so I’m not the best at explaining things, but I’ll try (I could explain kin in general, but that would take longer, so I’ll just explain fictionkin specifically):

Fictionkin is when you have a strong connection to a character to the point that it’s as if you are the character. This could include having memories or feelings about things that happened in your source/canon (some kins may not follow their canon exactly, or weren’t there for certain events in their source, so memories can vary in “accuracy”) or missing parts of you that are different (such as hair color/length, height, eye color, powers, etc)

Another thing about fictionkin is that it can have different origins, such as being a coping mechanism or due to a mental disorder, but it is almost always involuntary (this is important to note, since some people kin antagonists or characters that have done bad things, and kinning such characters does not automatically mean that they are bad people). It’s similar to fictives, I suppose, though fictives are more of a “little guy in your head” situation rather than a “I am this little guy”situation like fictionkin is.

For example, I’m a fictionkin of Elijah Volkov, so I miss Sydney a lot and have a hard time listening to certain parts of my source due to some… less than pleasant things the happened to me. I also miss my sharper teeth and nails, as well as the ability to inflict my fervor, as inconvenient as it may have been at times.

Squirrelflight's Choice

"I hope the mistakes I've made, I've made out of love."

Hello all! Today I'd like to discuss the character of Squirrelflight in the hope that I can help spread my interpretation of the character. I hope you'll continue to the end, and if my post changes your mind about her in any way, I would be so happy.

This will largely be focused around her choices surrounding the kits she chose to raise at Leafpool's request. Spoilers from Squirrelflight's Hope and other books that released prior will appear here.

In this post, I want to argue against the idea that Squirrelflight only took the kits because she thought she was barren, and argue that what she did was the best choice considering the circumstances. I believe this interpretation not only makes for a stronger, more cohesive narrative across all of these books, but also makes logical sense.

Let's start with the events surrounding Leafpool's pregnancy and the sisters' decision to raise the kits in ThunderClan under the lie that they were Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw's biological children.

This decision had many factors surrounding it. The first being that Leafpool couldn't go forth with her plan to raise kits outside the clans with Crowfeather after Cinderpelt died and leave ThunderClan without a medicine cat. On top of this, the novella Leafpool's Wish reveals that Leafpool was told by her warrior ancestors that she had to have her sister raise the kits in ThunderClan, leaving her with little other option but to lie that they weren't hers.

Many people criticize this decision from Leafpool, for multiple reasons. For one, she could've stepped down as a medicine cat and raised them herself. For another, she could've pretended that they were random kits she found instead of ones related to her and Firestar. And while I see what they mean, it just wouldn't work out.

The whole reason she decided to come back was to be the Clan's medicine cat, and there is no way she would be allowed to continue being a medicine cat after it's revealed she not only had kits, but that she had them with a warrior from a rival clan. That's two codes broken for the price of one. On top of this, StarClan told her to do it. Her kits are special, part of a prophecy about being Firestar's kin. It simply wouldn't work if she just pretended they were some random kits. Keep in mind that this lie was never intended to come to light, and since two of her kits were blessed with magic powers, her secret would've been discovered in no time. StarClan must have known this, hence why they told her to tell that lie specifically.

But we're not really talking about Leafpool, are we? We're talking about Squirrelflight. Squirrelflight herself has faced criticism for going along with this decision, chiefly surrounding her keeping it a secret from Brambleclaw. While people acknowledge that StarClan directly told her to lie to everyone that the kits were Brambleclaw's, some still think she should have told him. Especially since Brambleclaw, when the kits' parentage is revealed, says he would have gone along with her lie.

And to address that, we need to take a look at Squirrelflight's arc in the novella Leafpool's Wish.

Despite the fact that there is a perfectly serviceable Moonkittii video summarizing the book, many people misconstrue the events of it and say things happened that really didn't. The most egregious of these mistakes is thinking that Squirrelflight only took the kits after Yellowfang told her she was barren, as well as largely ignoring a lot of her agency in her decision to take them.

When Yellowfang lied to her and told her she was barren, Squirrelflight was very upset. But while she told her sister that she loved her and would do her best to help her as much as she could, she still steadfastly refused to take the kits and lie to Brambleclaw and the rest of ThunderClan in the process. She only changed her mind after the kits were born, when Feathertail visited the two sisters and urged Squirrelflight to reconsider. Squirrelflight, having then realized how much she had grown to care for the kits, agreed to take them so that they could live the best lives they possibly could in ThunderClan.

Squirrelflight not only struggled with the decision, but also refused to change her mind until they were already far away from the clan. This is understandable, considering how dishonorable and painful lying to ones kin and clanmates can be. Keep in mind that she was even doing this for her sister, the cat she was closest to, and yet she still had trouble going along with it.

Taking all of this into consideration, why would she have risked the chance that Brambleclaw rejects them? Better yet, why are we taking Brambleclaw at his word that he would have still accepted the kittens if he was told the truth? Keep in mind that after the lie is revealed, Leafpool steps down as a medicine cat out of shame. Brambleclaw's position as deputy is incredibly important to him, with his ambition for power being his main character motivation throughout The New Prophecy. Lying to ones clan is incredibly dishonorable, and after the truth came out, Brambleclaw would either step down out of shame or feel pressured to by his fellow warriors.

But let's not make him sound entirely self-centered, either. Lying is not always an easy choice. Making Brambleclaw keep the lie makes him complicit. There's kindness in not involving him, in making him an innocent party. Brambleclaw already has to put up with a lot for being the mirror image of his father, but for it to be found out that he played a part in such a serious lie? It could be proving everyone who doubts him in the clan right. Not only this, but the kits would feel betrayed by both of their parents if the truth ever came out. I can't imagine that any of these thoughts hadn't occured to Squirrelflight, a cat who already felt uncomfortable lying herself.

Ultimately, while I could neither feasibly blame Brambleclaw if he did reject the kits nor say for certain that he would, I don't see why it's so unbelievable to expect him not to, especially when Squirrelflight herself grappled with the decision. The sisters both needed 100% from him, nothing less. And Leafpool didn't get 100% from Squirrelflight until weeks after the initial proposal.

I believe Brambleclaw is only able to so confidently say he would keep Squirrelflight's lie because he has already come to love the kits as his own, similar to how Squirrelflight only agreed to take them after she came to love the kits as a mother. To take him at his word is an entirely unfair criticism of Squirrelflight's decision. Anyone can say they would have done something, but actually doing it is another matter entirely.

Anyway, acknowledging that Squirrelflight had agency in the plot of Leafpool's Wish also makes Squirrelflight's Hope make a bit more sense than it normally does. While StarClan taking zero responsibility for the lie about the kits' parentage is insulting, Squirrelflight still made a choice--her own choice--to go through with it. And I like this about her. I like that she tried to help her sister and give the kits the best life they could. They not only got to grow up knowing who their kin was, but they grew up with two loving parents as proud warriors of ThunderClan, all while not having to face the prejudice of being half-clan kits or kits of a medicine cat. The aftermath when everyone found out was undeniably terrible, but I love how you can see the decision had actual merits. That it was understandable. That it was human.

Squirrelflight to me is such a selfless character, it saddens me to see people scorn her when she was just trying to help her sister. It also sucks to see the narrative of the books treat her so poorly, and for Brambleclaw to ignore her attempts to mend things between them for so long, a decision he later regrets after he comes to understand why she did what she did. It sucks to see this treated as an "everyone was bad" issue when it's more like everyone was right, in some way, but that some handled the fallout worse than others. That there was more heartache than there needed to be, and that the sisters are not the source of the problem, but a result of the systemic problems that surround the clans and the Warrior Code as a whole.

I’ve been seeing a few people mention how much they want some kind of flashback to baby/kid Hunter, and the more I mull it over, the more I think we might actually have a good chance of it happening in a later episode!! 

For one thing, Hunter is the only member of the Hexside Squad whom we haven’t seen a younger version of. Amity and Willow had their own flashback-filled episode in the first season, “Understanding Willow”; Gus got a flashback during “Labyrinth Runners” of when he first met Willow as younger kids; Luz got  those video recordings of her younger self during “Thanks to Them”; and even Vee got flashbacks to her past/younger self in “Yesterday’s Lie”. And yet, Hunter— who arguably has one of the most interesting and allegedly messed up backstories of any character in the series— has had nothing so far beyond his own recollections to Gus.  This isn’t any kind of hard evidence, but I think it would be cool of the crew to show us flashes of every character’s childhoods, at the very least so we can draw comparisons between them. Secondly, based on that one interview, season three is supposed to be heavily focused around the themes of both grief and neurodivergence. We’ve already seen a bit of this in “Thanks to Them”, but from what it sounded like in the interview, there should be more to come; and I’m hoping part of it will be focused around Hunter and being autistic. Most of the fandom (myself included, I kin him so hard) already headcanon Hunter as autistic, and it seems like the crew is writing him that way. I think some kind of flashback or memory-dive via the Mindscape would be a great way to show other autistic traits via a young Hunter, before he started masking so much. It could even show the process of Hunter starting to mask, which could be a really important theme in a kid’s show for ND children! Again, not hard evidence, but something I think could be really beneficial! 

Thirdly, I think there might genuinely be some kind of build-up being laid out in “Thanks to Them” for Hunter’s full backstory. Not only did we have small instances of Hunter revealing parts of his time in the castle, such as the bowing to Camilla and the conversation he had with Gus, but we also have more information on the Wittebros’ backstory and what happened between them. These hints, at least to me, make it seem like the crew is planning to revisit the whole picture later on— everything that happened with the Wittebane family finally laid out for us, Hunter included. Additionally, with all the obvious hinting towards Hunter growing up as an abuse victim, I can imagine some kind of storyline in a later episode where Hunter gets to finally confront Belos following their “meeting” in “Thanks to Them”, and exposes some of the truly horrifying things Belos has done as his guardian (the goop spikes are what I’m thinking of, we all know how Hunter got that scar). Naturally I’m hoping he gets retribution, but I also think a situation like this would be a good way for the crew to sneak in flashbacks to his childhood growing up in the castle and show what abuse can look like. It just feels like an important message to put in a kids show, especially one that’s dealt with other topics like losing a parent and LGBTQ+ themes. Long story short though (sorry for the rambling), the direction it seems like they’re taking following the possession storyline seems like it sets up a few possibilities for a Young Hunter cameo. 

Lastly (and let’s be honest this is probably my best “evidence” lmao), we have this image done by one of the crew members, and it’s caption!

I mean. “See you in our memories”?? Paired with the GG mask and the staff in the dirt?? This just screams to me that we’ll be getting some kind of plotline with Hunter’s mindscape, or at the very least, Hunter’s memories and past. And if that’s the case, I think we have a fucking good chance of seeing baby Hunter!!!

Hey, can you re-imagine a wholy genderbent Deathnote, is too cursed?

Okay, it is SO funny that you mention this because I was talking to my Long-Distance Best Friend the other day about the fact that there is, apparently, (or at least was, at some point before the strike?) a plan to make a live-action TV series adaptation of this for Netflix. Which is...a whole other thing I don't want to get into, but ANYWAY.

The POINT is that we were talking about what would have to happen to make me have some modicum of hope that this might not be the worst idea ever (remember what happened the LAST time we did live-action Netflix DN, we got the 2017 movie no one needs to live through that again). And what I ultimately came up with was:

Every single character, except for Light and Raye, is now a woman. (Obviously this isn't wholly genderbent, but. It's close enough to this ask that I found it to still be a humorous coincidence.) I think in the hands of the right writer, it could be an interesting examination of misogyny and how baked-in that concept is to the justice system. (And I think it would lend extra context to the fact that Light was able to keep operating for so long. If the people opposing him are all women in a historically male-dominated field, they'd all have to contend with a type of professional and societal discrimination that he'll never have to, thus giving him an advantage. Also L would be a Weird Girl™, which would absolutely raise some interesting questions in terms of the scope of this character's influence and their societal perception. Also femslash Near/Mello would be canonically possible which is OBVIOUSLY the most important factor to take into consideration.)

Soichiro's difficulty in believing Light's guilt would gain an extra dimension if this character were also grappling with the societal expectations of motherhood (especially while being in a position of authority in a """masculine""" career). And Matsuda...I just think some woman, any woman, should get to shoot Light repeatedly in a fit of rage. (Also something-something calling women in the workplace idiots/making them the butt of the joke/consistently overlooking them, I think you could do something there.) I think this theoretical concept I spent way too much time thinking about really only works if, even though the major and supporting characters are women, it's still made clear that they work in an environment overwhelmingly occupied by men.

As for a FULLY genderbent story...Light as a female character is, to me, indeed an idea too cursed. I will not elaborate.

And I don't think the Shinigami experience the concept of gender in the way that we do, so tbh I'm not really sure a whole lot would change in that regard. But I do think a female Ryuk would be very funny.

Naomi being a man I think would be...not cursed, I just don't particularly enjoy it. But mainly that's because I am A Gay™, and I love thinking about women who are tough enough to have the word "massacre" as part of their nickname. :)

Misa being reimagined as a guy could be really interesting, though, given how a) the entertainment industry treats women differently from how it treats men, and b) the world at large generally expects men to react differently to trauma than women do. (Although I still very much prefer the version of Misa that serves as a deconstruction of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl). And I'd be curious to see what the viewer/reader response would be if this character were a man. (Mainly because, historically, audiences are a lot more positively receptive to extreme, unhealthy displays of devotion when they come from a male character than when they come from a female character, but this answer is already probably too long, so we don't have to talk about that.)

(Best Friend ALSO mentioned the idea of Rina Sawayama playing L, and I am now gay on a level I previously didn't ever think was possible, but we don't have to talk about that either.)

Uhhhh....TLDR, full-genderbent DN kind of cursed, but there are some really interesting ideas you could examine. (The one veto I'm gonna make is that I do not think this story works if Light is a girl, but-you guessed it-we really don't have to talk about that.)

Dragon Ball Super 062

How it started.

How it’s going.

Last time, Trunks got really really really really mad, and transformed into some other variation of Super Saiyan.  So now he’s almost as strong as a Super Saiyan Blue, which doesn’t help, since Goku Black is currently 4-0 against Super Saiyan Blues.

Vegeta tries to jump in, but the Zamasu double-team moves are just impossible for them to cope with. 

And Goku’s down with a nasty case of a big hole through his torso.  Funny how he’s actually selling in this episode when it seemed to just make him stronger in the previous episode.  Fuck this arc so hard.

The best Trunks’ new form seems to be able to do is to hold Black and Zamasu off long enough for the others to retreat in the Time Machine.  Vegeta hates this idea, but he hated the idea of coming here without a plan, and everything that’s happened on this trip has proved him correct.  He shouldn’t see this as a cowardly retreat, but a correction of an earlier blunder. 

So Bulma and Vegeta return home with Goku, and Bulma is furious with Beerus.  She tells him what happened, which isn’t too complicated since it’s basically the exact same thing that happened on the first trip to fight Black.  Nothing has changed.  Beerus destroying Zamasu in the present day didn’t accomplish diddly dick.

Beerus tries to play it cool by acting more bemused than shocked.  He admits he had a feeling it might turn out this way, since Trunks did make a compelling argument for this.  But Bulma’s pissed because he acted so insulted when the others doubted him.  She nearly takes a swing at him, but Vegeta tells her they need to focus on finding a way to help Trunks. 

As for Beerus, once he hears Vegeta’s report of the situation, he takes his leave.  As far as he’s concerned, the situation has been resolved in this reality, which is the only one he’s beholden to.  The Earthlings may do whatever they wish going forward, but his involvement is concluded.  Whis wishes Bulma good luck.  She seems upset to see them go, but it’s not like they were doing that much before, you know? 

I mean, they helped save “our” Gowasu, but that guy sucks so who cares?  They got rid of “our” Zamasu, but that’s the equivalent of Krillin blowing up the embryonic Cell in Gero’s basement, while the adult Cell is running around drinking whole Battlebowl teams.  And they helped uncover the mystery of Goku Black’s identity, but I’m not sure knowing who he is really changes the calculus of this battle.  Besides, he seemed quite happy to explain the whole thing himself. 

Vegeta takes a walk to think this out, and Kid Trunks goes to the one person he can count on for support: Goten.  Hey, yeah, remember Goten?  He’s barely done anything in this whole arc.  And... he still won’t do anything from here on.  I find this annoying, because they put him on that still at the end of the opening credits, which shows all the major players in this saga.

See?  There in the upper right.  Goten.  The implication is that it’s Goku, Mai, and Trunks against Zamasu and Goku Black, with Kid Trunks, Goten, and the Pilaf Gang doing comic relief bullshit.  That’s mostly turned out to be true, except for Goten being involved.  And it’s not like I’m a huge Goten fan or anything, but that still feels like a bait-and-switch. 

Anyway, this leads to Chi-Chi and Gohan coming over to find Goku and Goten, and everyone meets in the yard and this is how Chi-Chi finds out what’s been going on all day.  She started cooking food for Goku while she waited for him to come home, and now she’s got tons of food, which works out, because Goku’s starving after that liver-stabbing defeat he suffered in the future.

I’ll skip the part where they recap the whole Saga for the other characters.  All that matters is that Bulma will have the time machine refueled in twelve hours, but they need a strategy to beat those dickholes.  Piccolo has an idea: The Evil Containment Wave, also known as the Mafuba.  

Just in case you’re new to this: The Mafuba was Plan A for defeating King Piccolo in his saga during Dragon Ball.  Roshi’s master, Mutai-Itoh, developed the move when King Piccolo first attacked the world centuries earlier.  Since King Piccolo was too powerful to defeat by force, Mutai-Itoh focused on developing a technique that would contain King Piccolo by sealing him up in a pot, where he could never harm anyone again.  It worked, but Mutai-Itoh died from the intense physical toll of the technique.   When King Piccolo returned, Roshi attempted to use the move again, but he missed.  Tien tried to use it himself, but his jar got damaged before he could make the attempt.  So the world had to settle for Plan B, which was the Goku-Beats-the-Ever-Loving-Fuck-out-of-King-Piccolo Technique.   Plan B was awesome.

The bottom line is that this could be a way to defeat Zamasu despite his invincible body.  Goku just needs someone to show him how to perform the move.  Piccolo offers, since he used it himself to turn the tables on Kami in the 23rd Budokai, but Goku ignores him and teleports to Roshi to learn it from him.  Quite a sick burn on King Piccolo’s son.  Plan B’s a long game.

So while Roshi teaches Goku to practice on Turtle, Vegeta goes to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to train, since he’s clearly not strong enough as he is now. 

Meanwhile, Beerus returns... to Gowasu’s home in Universe 10?  Seems he isn’t finished with this matter after all. Whis confides in Gowasu that Beerus feels responsible for things going poorly, since he was sure he had solved everything by destroying Zamasu in Episode 59.  The trouble is, while Beerus is sure he could easily take out Black and Future Zamasu, they’re in the future of an alternate timeline, so he can’t get to them without violating the rule against time travel.  But Gowasu can, so Beerus tells him the entire story, and Gowasu resolves to take responsibility for this.  Well that’d be a first...

If your OC were to imagine their idyllic life (realistically or otherwise) what would it be like?

The one thing Taryn wanted in life was to never have been king. He wanted his kin to find safety and peace, but would have preferred a life of isolation, far in the north where he could live unbothered. Ideally, even after meeting Yehl, he still imagines this life for them, but it’s impossible, and he knows it’s the furthest thing from what Yehl wants.

What sort of role do they take on in relationships, either familial, romantic or platonic. i.e. are they a defender, protector, nurturer, etc.

It depends on the relationship. With Yehl, he is the sword and shield. Both knight and soldier, he defends him physically and emotionally, and will do whatever he is bid. As a father, he is more the advisor; A steady guide in Zehel’s life, leading him to find his own way through. In his friendships, he often acts as a mirror. A reflection of something they often need to see or be reminded of. He offers them a different perspective as well as brutal honesty. 

What is one thing that they only let those closest to them see?

His self-critical nature. Having spent much of his later life alone, he’d never had to share this fact with others. Once he returns, he knows better than to show hesitation. He’s a confident person in most facets, but still sees himself as a poor leader and often doubts his own decisions. He perpetually struggles against the mantle he wears, though very few people would ever know. 

How would their life be different if they had never met their partner?

Well, realistically if Taryn and Yehl had never met, Taryn would neither have found his mother, nor been able to release her, and the war would not have ended that night. I can’t imagine he would have fought for the throne after, and would have likely exiled in acceptance of his failure again. Despite his good intentions at the beginning of the story, I honestly don’t think he had the conviction to be the person to follow it to whatever end. Without Yehl, he’s just not a strong enough person not to resign himself to that failure, and he’s certainly not a good enough person to think it’d be worth still fighting for. 

What was the moment at which they knew they were in love, or was it a slow buildup?

I think the realization that it’s love comes gradually, only because Taryn doesn’t really understand or know what love looks like. He understands ownership and fealty, and to him, that’s how it appears at the beginning. That moment is clear and defined for him, and he knows it exactly when it happens, but he doesn’t come to accept it as love until a lot later.

What was it about their significant other that made them fall in love with them? Was it a single eye-opening experience or many gestures over time?

It was Yehl’s ability to still empathize despite his pain. Taryn is constantly jarred by Yehl, not just shocked, but unsettled. He finds Yehl to be an anomaly. He can feel his pain, and he knows well Yehl’s poorest qualities, but even so, Yehl still has the ability to sympathize for Taryn’s loss of his mother, to worry and show concern for his siblings and even his father, who have done little but hurt him, and show reverence for beautiful, innocent things. That is what Taryn really falls in love with, as Yehl reveals those softer parts of himself over time.

What sort of routines, rituals or rules do they have or set for themselves?

I wouldn’t say he has any rituals or rules. Though one of my favorite routines of theirs is that later on when Taryn builds Lazu’Lei and Yehl comes to live with him in Llythien, Taryn was always the one to come and wake Yehl up in the morning. This goes on for some years, up until the time Zehel is born, and then again after, when Zeh is old enough to leave the nursery. Even if Yehl would wake up earlier (which was rare) he would still wait for Taryn to come for him. That stays true for the rest of their lives. 

If they were to lose the person closest to them, how would they mourn them and how would they handle their grief?

Going against canon and assuming Yeryn don’t die together lmao, I absolutely think Taryn would be the one to handle his grief the worst. Which is shocking considering how much Yehl depends on him, but I do think Yehl is Taryn’s reason for doing... everything and anything. If he lost him, he’d have nothing to fight for. I don’t think his obligation and loyalty is strong enough on its own, and he would revert back to a state of total isolation and not wanting anything to do with the world. Which is the complete opposite of what Yehl would have wanted him to do, and I think he knows that. I just don’t think he would have the ability to carry on that way. He wouldn’t know how to mourn. He’d become bitter, reserved and completely remove himself from society.

Hmmm, well! Opinion that Gehrman is, in fact, not a "misogynist creep" or whatever but rather a complicated, nuanced character with multilayered vibe of grieving, who is not necessarily a good person but made a Doll in such image somewhere on the range from 'Maria herself HAD a gentle, even feminine side that was ruined and he blames himself' to 'He trapped her image in that femininity as last ditch mental effort to pretend she is "safe"'. That's right - in recent couple of years, this opinion on Gehrman became common! I remember how it started in Summer 2021 with my post ( x ) shedding light on some mistranslated lines and missed possibilities, that changed opinion of a few or his haters and shaped opinion of some that never cared for him, but now? Now every popular blog has a nuanced take on Mister Doomer that goes viral in less than a week every time! Moreover, the MOST viral of these takes basically make a peace between "she is legit masculine" and "Gehrman is certainly not a misogynist" takes; basically no one is left unsatisfied and everything is compromised on. I am glad to announce that takes like this count as COMMON! We did it, fandom!

Damn, you guys really think there is such thing as "canon" in From's games? xD Okay, okay, I will be serious. My favourite part is how there is a complex affiliation with the Eldrich Truth! There are 'Stars', and the 'Paleblood Moon' boldly hinted to be behind it, and the latter also can be associated with Bloodmoon, that is itself is more the state of being 'nourished' and descending to "bless" the humans, but also Flora does seem to be in charge, and there is the 'Sea' from which Kos presumably came, but 'Sea' seems to lead to the 'Stars', and there are some weird and cursed Kin like Amygdala and maybe Wet Nurse. There are Kin that are each of these and Kin that are both, and Rom is all three affiliations- meanwhile some beasts show signs of Kin, and some Kin show signs of beasts! I dissected the complexity in my Kin headcanons post ( x ) to my best ability, but the variety of the material to work with is pretty much canon, even if the way to go about it is up for the lorediggers. But this is ENJOYABLE. I LOVED connecting these dots!

I'll say Forgotten Madman! Honestly, find a character that lives up to their name more... He is implied to have been a member of the Choir - dude uses A Call Beyond, that is a secret weapon of the Choir! Also, the only NPC to use Empty Phantasm Shell. Also, the fact that obtaining Cosmic Watcher badge lets you buy poisonous knives, and he happens to be fought in the Hintertomb, a location notorious for being very venomous- Like, what if he came up with those knives? What if he sets his Ludwig's Holy Blade in arcane mist in attempt to recreate the conditions which made Ludwig have his revelation? After all, the 'Madmen' prospectors were ones who went insane trying to gain more Insight in the dungeons, and wrapped husks of phantasms around themselves like lucky charms. He also has very unusual face, and pink skin. Also, whereas all the remaining prospectors seem to be solitary, he has an escort! You know, unusually so, like... a noble man having a butler? Or he needed assistance for other reason? But there is an implication of a tie between Hemwick and Hintertomb (more on the topic in this ( x ) post), and Hemwick is an underling of Cainhurst, and Cainhurst IS nobles, and-

Okay, you see what I am saying. This wholeass character, and his escort by effect, are like a Lego set from which you can craft really interesting stuff! Most of Soulsborne characters will have little to no lore, just 'material to work with', so I don't really see why not craft something with him too! ...or at least include him in the Choir gang. Yeah I know everyone hates his hairstyle, but that IS why they agreed to not take hats off ever again, come on dsnfgsdfd xD

Hmmmm... Tricky question, because the concept itself has negative implication *thinking emoji* I think maybe Djura? Blorbofication I've seen used in a synonymous concept as idealisation or something. Like, striping character off the flaws, complexity and wrongdoings, and making it all about their good side (sometimes exagerrating it either). Djura must have taken part in burning of the Old Yharnam, seems to have hunted a lot and viciously from how worn his clothes are and how two of Powder Keg weapons straight up celebrate EXCEPTIONAL hatred for the beasts, and there is still some layer of hypocrisy to him (source: analyze all his interaction/questline with the player very hard) and dark implication about defending the beasts like he does... I can go on. But like... I am yet to see the "harm" (if you could call it that?) of blorbifying him to being the cool beasts' dad and liking his redemption arc to the point of forgetting what he redeemed himself FROM...? He is just such a good character that I've grown to like it when people are blinded by his good traits xd There are also some characters with whom 'blind love' opens the gate for controversy and even attacking other characters and/or fans, but 'blind love' towards Djura doesn't... really cause anything bad? There is nothing but wholesome stuff, like... no one gets hurt? besides the Paleblood Hunter lolololol
