You take in a big lungful of the crisp, springtime fresh Auradon air as you crawl out of your rabbit hole and back into Overland. Roots and twigs and grass stick to your skirts, but you don’t mind much. You check your pocket watch in a panic, and scurry to the tourney match. You’re merely a pebble’s throw away, so you reach the bleachers quite quickly. Late, granted, but not too late. Not horribly, irreversibly, all-endingly late. You climb up to your usual spot in the bleachers, only a few seats away from the isle kids. Well, Mal and Evie, really, since Jay and Carlos are out on the field. You try to wave at the girls, but they seem much too preoccupied with the game to notice. You understand their fascination, tourney matches are simply addictive.
You yourself hadn’t been one for sports - aside from the occasional caucus race - that is, until Ben joined the tourney team last year. He must have spent every spare moment leading up to his first match trying to explain the rules to you with no luck, but the moment the referee blew her whistle, you were enamored watching him play. And it’s simply been that way ever since. No matter what it is, you know it will be a fantastical time if Ben’s the one playing. This seems especially true today.
Ben tears up the field like an absolute animal - no pun intended - and within minutes has scored yet another goal for Auradon. The Fighting Knights are pulling out all the stops, and through even your unwavering faith in Ben’s athleticism, it’s starting to look like a close call. You pull out a teacup from your bag, the china cool under your fingertips. It’s adorned with a white catchfly and chestnut print, but you don’t pay much attention to it.
Your eyes are locked on Ben as he races down the field, and you pour the spout of your tea pot shaped bag into the cup. Warm, perfectly brewed rooibos and nettle tea trickles from its spout. You shake it absentmindedly a few times, and some lemon slices and lavender sprigs fall in, floating atop the beverage. You take a sip of the warm, perfectly seasoned herbal tea, nearly choking on it as Jay drags Carlos across the field. You watch with bated breath as they move strategically, setting up Ben to score the perfect winning goal. The ball flies straight into the net, and you jump up, cheering and applauding, not even noticing the rooibos and nettle tea stain on your skirt. The crowd roars right along with you, applauding and cheering deafeningly while the announcer congratulates Auradon Prep on their win. Before he can even finish speaking, Ben grabs the mic from him.
You stop dead in your tracks, brow furrowed.
That’s not like him.
Not at all.
“Excuse me, excuse me!” Ben pants, still out of breath as he tries to get the crowd’s focus. “Can I have your attention please?”
The stands quiet as he speaks.
“There’s- uh, there’s something I’d like to say!”
What in the Knave’s good name is he doing? Your mind races, trying to remember if he’d said anything about something like this. Were there any speeches, any announcements, anything like that he was going to make after the game? You can’t remember him mentioning anything like that. Besides, he always runs his speeches by you first to make sure it comes across the way he intends it too. Even something as small as an opening statement or homework presentation, he always gets your feedback first. You watch the way his eyes dart around, the way he hesitates as he tries to figure out what he’s saying. Your stomach drops. He’s improvising this. This whole situation feels surreal. Most peculiar, and most definitely unlike him.
After another moment of floundering, he finally addresses the crowd.
“Give me an M!”
The crowd complies, shouting out the letter and mirroring the shape he’s making with his arms.
“Give me an A!”
“A!”
While the crowd complies yet again, throwing their arms over their heads in an A shape, your eyes fly over to Audrey. You’re afraid you know where this is going, even though it makes positively less sense than the most twisting turning riddles you’ve ever encountered in Wonderland. Your horrified, bewildered expression is the opposite of her hopeful one, and you realize you’re thinking the same thing. Your stomach sinks in a sick, twisting feeling. Your mind races in a dreamlike panic.
He can’t seriously be asking Audrey to marry him, could he?
There’s no way. There’s simply no chance that the Ben you’ve known for longer than you’ve been brewing tea would do something so… impulsive. Everything about Ben is calculated. Well thought through. Ben agonizes over each and every decision, he lies awake at night paralyzed by the potential consequences of each action, each choice not being thought all the way through and analyzed from every possible angle. If proposing to Audrey was even a thought in his mind, he would have told you about it.
There’s simply no other way. There’s no possibility this was even an option in his mind. Just last week when you had quietly implied that maybe he should consider ending their relationship, his silence spoke louder than any words could have. You had seen that. You saw it in his eyes. There’s no way he could be changing his mind that quickly, and not consulting you - or someone about it? You know you would have gotten wind if he even implied he was toying with the notion. Ben does not flip-flop. So what is… this?
“Give me an L!”
Audrey’s face drops. Yours floods with relief.
He’s not proposing.
“C’mon, I can’t hear you!” Ben calls out into the mic, hyping up the crowd. They yell Mal’s name again at Ben’s encouragement. You think you see where he’s going with this. It makes sense - Jay and Carlos each got a big starring moment during the tourney game. Now, Ben is giving a shout out to Mal and Evie so they can share in the glory, and won’t feel left out. It’s a brilliant idea, you realize, but you still can’t figure out why he didn’t plan something like this ahead. Did he realize last minute that Mal and Evie might feel excluded? It’s possible. And right now, it’s the most rational explanation you have for this unusual behavior. Before you can feel too relieved, he leans into the mic. You wait for him to instruct the crowd to give him an E, beginning to spell Evie’s name, and-
“I love you, Mal!”
Your stomach drops. You freeze again, brow furrowed more than before. The world around you spins as you stand in the crowd, disoriented. He says it like a deathbed confession, the words tearing from his throat. Through your confused stupor, you can hear the sincerity, the yearning in his voice.
What?
You don’t even think to look over at Audrey, but you’re sure as anything her expression is exactly the same as yours - completely and totally shell shocked. Probably moreso, you think, she is his girlfriend after all. But is she? Anymore, that is. You can’t imagine she would want to be after a display like that, after Ben publicly-
Ben…
Ben.
His gaze flicks over to you for a split second, not even long enough for you to silently ask him what the hell is going on. But it’s just long enough for you to see a flash of something. A look in his eye. Fear. Confusion. Everything you’re feeling for him right now. His attention is ripped forcefully back to Mal. Whatever was there, you can’t see it now.
“Give me a beat!” Ben demands overzealously to the band. They start playing something for him, something loud and fast. Ben begins singing Mal’s praises. Literally. You’re still frozen, sick with a cold, confused feeling that makes the world around you feel like a strange dream. Unreal. You begin to question if you are dreaming. Through your dazed state - which you only later realize has begun to be accompanied by hot tears blurring your vision - you could swear you saw Mal and Evie share some sort of look, whisper knowingly. They giggle. Mal pulls a zip top bag of cookies out of her jacket pocket and they both start giggling. Laughing.
A noise catches your scattered attention and you notice Ben has launched himself into the stands, crowd surfing to get all the way over to Mal. He climbs down, grabbing her waist and pulling her close. It’s so intense, so passionate, so unlike him to do something like that in public. You start to gasp, but you can’t. The stands are so loud, each noise feels like a gunshot deafening you. Your lungs feel like they’re being squeezed from the bottom up like paint tubes, gripped by an artist desperate for the last drops of cadmium yellow deep.
His hand rests firmly on the small of her back.
Just like it does on yours.
Something sickening twists through you, contaminating your heart and sapping away at your strength. Audrey’s voice cuts through, piercing and shrill as she announces to Ben that Chad is her boyfriend now. You see them kiss in your peripheral vision, eyes still locked on the way Ben’s hand sits on Mal’s back. He doesn’t seem to notice Audrey either, or at the very least, he doesn’t acknowledge her. Normally you’d giggle privately at how much that would irritate her, but nothing so frivolous crosses your mind just then.
“I love you, Mal!” Ben exclaims into the microphone. “Did I mention that?”
He leans closer, aching for her, needing her. But she puts her hands on his chest, trying to keep more distance between them.
“Mal,” he begs, panting as his breath fans across her face, his cheeks flushed. He grips her tighter, leaning closer until he’s practically dipping her. The crowd watches, shocked at the sight of Prince Ben - who is known for his diplomatic reserve and continuous composure - acting so bold in public. “Will you go to coronation with me?”
“Yes!” Mal’s response comes a little too easily.
You stare off into space in his general direction, choked with disbelief. You feel so frightened and confused and unwelcome. It’s a cold, isolated feeling of strangeness you’ve been running from since you could walk. You knew what people said about Wonderlandians, what they whispered behind your back when they thought you couldn’t hear. It was always Ben who made that feeling go away. He had seen the change in you, too. The more time you spent together since you were littles, the more he included you and sent disapproving princely looks to anyone who dared to tease you or make you feel like you’re not a part of Auradon, the more it started to work. He saw you relax, saw you believe him when he said he was happy to see you. He saw the shame and paranoia from accepting the fact that everyone around you was teasing you behind your back, spreading lies and rumors fade away.
Ben watched you grow into yourself the moment he showed you that you were safe to do so. Now, after ten years, that horrible feeling is back and Ben is gone. You turn, rushing out of the bleachers, hopping down to solid ground and turning underneath the stands. You’ve barely stopped before the world caves in around you, and the familiar scent of earth and night and the good kind of confusion envelop your senses, like a hug from your mother.
You fall down the rabbit hole, and you weep. Shamelessly, loudly, uncontrolled. Your tears fly off into the air above you as you fall, no longer afraid of prying eyes. You cry and cry, losing your sense of time and space as you fall deeper and deeper away from the world that never seems to lose amusement in stinging you when you least expect it. You take in a breath, but before you can let it out as another aching sob, you’re plunged underwater.
Your eyes flare open in the deep waves around you, the black void of a sky above. You kick yourself up to the surface, gasping as you tread the current carrying you downstream. The water splashes around you, getting into your mouth, and it’s salty. A stork sails by on a little wooden raft, adjusting her captain’s hat. “Well, that would do it!” She exclaims in a thick, Wonderlandian accent. “I was wondering what caused these high tides.”
She maneuvers her raft towards you and hauls you onto it, her gangly legs wobbling awkwardly as she keeps her balance. She pulls a handkerchief out of her pocket and hands it to you, her long feathers tickling your fingertips.
“Dry your eyes there, dearie, or else we’ll be having to build a new dam!”
You sputter an apology, which she dismisses goodnaturedly, and begins singing a confusing sea shanty as she navigates the waves, coming and going as you try to calm yourself. After a few minutes, a particularly large wave pushes you two over the river’s edge and sends you spinning into the forest.
“Well, there you have it.” She says, taking off her cap and dumping out water, sand, a few shells, and a very irritable codfish. She unties the strings of her raft, gathering up the large sticks used to make it into a bundle, and tucking them under her arm.
“Quite useful, you know,” She says softly, before handing you a piece of nicely shaped paper. It reads The Two Blwo’s Shipping Survise. “And if you ever need something lickety split, I do hope you’ll give me a call.”
She tilts her hat and lopes off through the woods into darkness.
You plop yourself down on the nearest thing - a large, bioluminescent blue mushroom with little purple spots that makes a sound like a big deep drum when you sit down on it. Several smaller mushrooms varying in size scatter near the base of the one you’re seated on. As you pull your foot up to get comfortable, you graze a few of the litter ones, and let out different tones and types of drums too. Normally this would fascinate you. Normally you would be taking pictures, writing about them in your journal, and trying to learn how to play a song on them - if they’re in the right sort of temperament, of course. But today you don’t even notice.
Your mind is still spiraling, sucked down into a whirlpool of the day’s events. You go over and over what happened, hoping to make sense of it, but unable to really process anything. That was so strange, Ben is acting so strange. Why is he acting like that, you wonder. Did he hit his head? Has he somehow been possessed by a very extroverted poltergeist? Why would he do that? It doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t even make nonsense. Even in Wonderland, there are still patterns, there are still rules and motivations for doing things. Even if those rules and patterns don’t make sense to anyone else, they’re still real. Wonderland is illogical and absurd, but it’s not purely random.
You rock yourself comfortingly on the bouncy mushroom, the soft noise providing an ambiance that helps you start to think again. There’s no feasible pattern or non-pattern or non-pattern pattern to Ben’s behavior. If there were one, you would be able to find it, especially if you know him as well as you do. And you do. You glance down and see some beetles marching in a line, carrying leaf umbrellas to avoid any more falling tears. You wipe them from your cheeks quickly.
“My apologies.” You say, your voice polite and fragile. The head beetle chirps, clicking his wings and tipping his hat. He ushers the others past your mushroom quickly, putting their leaf umbrellas onto an umbrella leaf bush nearby.
A few bread-and-butterflies flitter over, carrying a tray of tea and cakes. They place it before you gently, brewing you a cup of blackberry earl grey with extra honey. You thank them, and they nod, flittering off and leaving a trail of buttery breadcrumbs as their wings flap. They land nearby, listening to you mutter to yourself as the line up to form a loaf. The tea and cakes are delicious, full of jam and honey, and they steady your nerves. You take in another breath, less shaky this time, and begin to think. Not panic, really think.
“There has to be a reason,” you mumble out loud, “There simply has to be. Ben doesn’t just lose his composure like this. He’s not devoid of sensibilities and decision making. He’s worked so hard to hone his reputation as someone trustworthy, someone full of common sense and compassion, and that… being that person for Auradon is everything to him.”
You place down your tea cup firmly, brow furrowing as your confusion melts away to determination.
“Everything! He would never do something so… impulsive, and foolhardy, and- and… not like him!”
You stand up quickly, landing on your feet.
“I must get to the bottom of this.” You pause. “Or top. Either way.”
You gather your things, fix your hair, and wring out the water from your dress. Even if Ben doesn’t care about his reputation anymore, about his future, the very future of Auradon and all who reside within it, you do. Your loyalty to Ben simply cannot be broken by a day like today. You won’t let him throw away everything he’s worked towards for no reason. For any reason! If he’s just gone mad, that’s one thing to be dealt with. But there’s a good chance he’ll come back to his senses sooner or later, and you refuse to let everything to hell in a handbasket until he does.
You are going to figure this out. You’re going to do as much damage control as needed until Ben is back to you and Back to himself. And he is going to come back to himself. You’re sure of it.
Filled with tea cakes and determination, you summon a rabbit hole back to Auradon, and jump through. You flip and twist through the darkness, falling past a bookshelf that floats along with you for a moment, offering a few titles that might prove useful.
When light breaks the surface and you hear the cracking of polished stone floors, you climb through and emerge into the library. You dust the dirt off yourself and off your hands, setting down your books on a table. You begin to look around, rushing through the library and moving with purpose. You pull book after book off the shelves until you can hardly carry them to the checkout desk. Many of them will be fruitless, you’re sure, but anything is better than nothing in times like these.
“Doing some light reading, Ms. Liddell?” The librarian asks, chuckling at the imposing stack of books you’ve placed before her as she scans through them.
“There’s nothing light about it, I’m afraid.”She looks up, surprised by the unusual heaviness to your voice, the sharp, focused determination. “Thank you, madam.” You say, grabbing all your books and marching off to your dorm. You have a lot of reading to get through.

Summary: Sirass finds himself in a strange world, equal parts confused and annoyed.
Sirass woke to an aching body and an unpleasant ringing in his ears. The Iron Warrior groaned, raising one hand up and removing his helmet before lightly touching his head, trying to figure out if he had hit His head hard. There were no particularly sore spots on his head and his hand did not come away clean with blood. It was quite dark, wherever the fresh fuck he had woken up.
The last thing he remembered was -
Artillery fire thundered in his ears steadily as Sirass continued to dig, determined to undermine the enemy encampment at any cost. The shovel in his hand was as familiar to him as his limbs were. The wet, clumpy earth easily yielded to his strength and expert movements as the trench began to truly take shape.
Xenos charged overland, dodging the continued artillery fire to the best of their abilities, several falling into the trench, stumbling and face-planting in the mud.
A vicious grin appeared on the Iron Warrior's face as he swung his combat shovel at the Xenos, aiming for a weak spot in their armor, at one of the joints of their limbs.
The xenos threw itself out of the way of his shovel, scrambling for a weapon, to no avail.
Sirass drove the bladed edge of his beloved shovel into the xenos.
His soon to be dead enemy wailed satisfyingly in pain, trying to tug itself free.
Sirass drove his shovel all the way through the xenos’ leg joint and as it fell, clutching its’ severed limb and jabbering away in its’ twisted language. The Iron Warrior decapitated it before the alien hit the ground.
This was not the world he had been on, moments ago. There were trees, grass and wild plants he did not immediately recognize. The air was fairly fresh, though he could taste a certain amount of pollutants in the air.
But far fewer than the Mechanicus-ruled world had been long contaminated by, which is where he had been on last. Any plants that were grown on mechanicum controlled worlds were done so for an express purpose and under lab conditions, not growing wild like this.
Sirass did a quick check - his armor was fully intact and functional, he had all of his weapons on him. Including the shovel he had hand-forged himself. A quick check on the vox channels he had access to revealed that no one else was on them in his immediate area. Sirass could also be suffering from a communications blackout as well. There was no point in lingering alone, so the Iron Warrior followed the dirt trail downhill, as water collected in low-lying areas… and where water could be found, so would civilization lie. the local star had already risen, making it impossible for him to begin to guess where in the galaxy he had found himself.
~
The local star made it's path across the sky as Sirass walked through what had first appeared to be untamed forest… But which was carefully managed woodlands. He could tell by the way that the slow growing plants had been spaced, the carefully made and maintained forest path that he was gambling down.
He must have been brought to a pleasure world, although who had done so and why was an utter mystery to the Iron Warrior. It would explain the light pollution in the air and the careful management of this forest. Sirass silently wondered if this world had nearly fallen into enemy hands a good thirty to fifty terran years ago, as none of the trees appeared to be older than that. At least, none of the trees he had seen. That amount of time would have allowed the forest to heal - especially with the aid of the sentients who lived here.
The winding dirt path eventually gave way to cobblestones, of all things. How quaint! Was he on one of the underdeveloped worlds, whose main exports to the Imperium were living bodies and farming goods? The air now carried a hint of salt and damp, likely meaning he was near a salt water body.
The shadows were long, and Sirass stared up at the high walled city, unimpressed by the drab design and sub-par building materials. Oddly enough, there were at least a half dozen Raised platforms along the top of the outermost wall of the city that he could see. On each of these platforms were large canons, pointed upwards to the sky. He could see more mobile ballistas as well.
Why did this city have antiquated anti-aircraft defenses? Intrigued now, Sirass approached the wrought Iron and brass gates. He knocked on them loudly enough to be heard by the mortals on guard duty. He kept his helmet off, just in case this world had not yet been welcomed into the Imperial fold.
A breath.
Two.
Three.
Sirass was starting to get annoyed and was starting to eye the hinges on the gates. The iron warrior knew that they were the weakest part of the structure, mentally calculating the strength and leverage he would need to pop them clean off the hinges.
“... Oh. You're one of them giant, shiny bastards. It's been a bit since one of your lot came wandering our way. Lemme send someone to get one of them who live here. Who are you, by the way? You're an…” the mortal peered at Sirass closer “... Iron Warrior, right?”
“That I am… Are you inferring that there are other Astartes within the walls of your city?” Sirass asked, eyes narrowing a little.
“There are a few. I suspect you woke up somewhere, unsure as to how you'd arrived?” The guard asked, their guess suspiciously accurate.
“How did you know that?” Sirass demanded. Had he been kidnapped? Why leave him in the wilderness, If so? None of this was making sense.
“The astartes coming will explain the details as they are known. But for now, please, do come in.” The guard stated.
Sirass could hear the grinding of gear on gear, the rattling of chains as the gates were heaved open.
The astartes walked in, a small frown on his face as he spotted several light posts styled like ancient oil lamps flickered on as dusk faded into true night. He did not hear the characteristic hum of electricity, could not smell the smoke of fire from wood, coal or other burnable fuel.
What he could see in the flickering blue light (which was a distressing shade that reminded Sirass unpleasantly of something, but what precisely it was eluded him for the moment) were arcane looking runes carved into the wood and metal of the light pole that hurt to look at for more than a couple of seconds.
“What powers these lights? And why are there engravings in the pole holding up the light? That much intricate decoration is a little … extravagant.” Sirass asked, noting that all four of the light-poles he could see clearly in the flickering light had the engravings on them.
“Aetheric steam connects to each of the light poles, and they are connected to each other by a series of pipes. I don't precisely know how it works, but it's a lot cleaner than the old oil lamps we used to use, and far less fiddly than candles.” The mortal answered, as if that was supposed to make any sense at all.
Before Sirass could ask what the fuck aetheric steam was, a clanking, clicking, shambling pile of metal and clogs rolled towards him on wheels. "By the throne on Terra, what the fuck is that?" Sirass growls, shifting into a defensive stance, one hand on the shaft of his shovel.
He would draw his bolter, but there was a high likelihood that shrapnel would cause an annoying amount of damage to both the surrounding buildings and streets... As well as the dozen or so mortals wandering around nearby. While normally that wouldn't bother Sirass, this was highly likely to be a pleasure world - and as there were other Astartes on this world (allegedly, at least) he would likely get bitched at for being a bastard by whoever else was in this city. Because they were likely to be some of the softer sort, as they were far too calm being around an Astartes if they had the distinct displeasure of being exposed to bored Night Lords. Or Dark Angels, for that matter.
"... The mechanized aide? They're a common sight on this world. This one has been created and instructed to tend to the streets, to help keep them clean and free of garbage and debris. It's perfectly safe." The mortal answered casually.
Sirass could see head-ache inducing scribblings carved into this thing to... And the damn thing was of a flimsy design. He could see several critical design flaws that would incapacitate the functioning of this hapless machine that could be easily done by a mortal, much less by an Astartes such as himself. "How can you stand to have this ugly, painful thing squeaking around you? What happens if it's tire pops." He could definitely pop the flimsy rubber of the tire by pinching it between his fingers.
"What do you mean by painful?" The mortal asks "And while this is an older model and not exactly as elegant as some of the newest mechanical minders, it's not as if it's a ghastly sight to behold. And the little ticking and chiming sounds it makes are charming."
"Whatever foul writing that has been carved into the shitty metal makes my head hurt looking at it. Also, what is aetheric steam? You dodged the question earlier. I don't feel like waiting to get my answer." Sirass growled, taking a menacing step towards the mortal. At least they weren't painful to look at, which was a relief.
"... The runes help keep the aetheric steam moving properly within the mechanical helper - and in the light posts as well. Aetheric steam is what we use to power pretty much anything that requires power of one kind or another. Coal, oil are expensive and dangerous to try and acquire and process. We very nearly destroyed much of our ecosystems when we shoveled a great deal of wood into trying to fill our ever-increasing demands for power, not to mention the choking black clouds of smoke and smog that caused many to fall ill permanently. Aetheric steam is much cleaner and safer to use, particularly once the runes are inscribed, directing the energies." The mortal answered "Or at least, that's what I've always been told."
"I am not familiar with the term Aether. What sort of resource is it? Do you collect solar radiation and turn it into power? Are you using atomic energy? Or are you not allowed to know such things." Sirass demanded with a huff.
"Aether is the energy of the immaterium. The reality parallel to ours, but one that we cannot reach, nor touch directly. It is where the spirits of the dead go, when their bodies expire. We are able to harness the very power of the afterlife in order to fuel our cities and homes." The mortal explained casually, as if that wasn't a horrifying thing to contemplate, much less implement on a civilization-wide scale.
"The... The warp. You're harnessing the warp to light your streets and to power... That, and things like it?" Sirass demanded, something cold and very heavy clawing at both of his hearts and pressing heavily on his lungs, making it difficult for him to breathe. "Do you have any idea the dangers you are risking, using the warp continuously like this? Fuck, I hope I can get first captain Forrix to believe me when I report to him about this nightmare." As a standard battle brother of the fourth legion, he did not have the clearance to just send an urgent message to the Thousand Sons, who were by far the most qualified to deal with this shit-show of a world, given that they were primarily psykers and trained extensively in warp-craft.
Sirass still had no idea as to whether or not that this was an Imperial World or not. It was entirely possible that this was a world under the control of the Thousand Sons legion, and they were experimenting with warp-craft, or at least watching what the mortals were doing with warp-craft on this world and taking notes from a relatively safe distance for when part if not the whole planet blew up, or was subsumed in a horrific warp-storm, or attracted the attention of the predators that were rumored to lurk in the depths of the Warp.
"We call it the immaterium, or the Other World, but other Astartes have called the dimension we are drawing from the warp. I got a message from Bill, he says that Bother-Sergeant Ruberus and Lieutenant Coretanz are on their way here." The mortal murmured.
"... Ugh, aren't there any other Iron Warriors I could talk to in this city? Or in a nearby one? I'd rather not deal with an officious Ultramarine... And worse... A haughty Imperial Fist. Damn praetorians. They think that they're so much better than everyone else, just because they were assigned to guard Terra. As if they're the only militant force assigned to Terra and its' defenses." Sirass groaned, resisting the temptation to bury his face in his hands with effort. He was not looking forward to dealing with passive-aggressive, red-tape wielding bureaucrats, nor the gaudy golden gits who got to sit on their asses most of the time while his legion slogged through miserable siege after awful campaign, never reaping the rewards nor the fruits of their labors. Always shunted from one engagement to the other while being sneered at and looked down upon for the ruthlessness that they were relied upon to use against their enemies.
"Not that I am aware of, and it will take time to connect to the psy-net and ask around for where other Iron Warriors might be." The mortal answered, shrugging a little "Besides, I've found that Sargent Ruberus is actually quite helpful and polite, if a tad awkward... And Lieutenant Coretanz has been helping the mayor of the city and the council upgrade the defenses of our city."
"Tch, of course they are." Sirass huffed, a sneer twisting his features as he scowled at the cobblestone ground, crossing his arms over his chest. "And I'm sure that the ultramarines - because where there's one, there's usually a squad unless his brothers got killed... Then again, a world where Ultramarines have died on doesn't tend to stay intact for very long without it's shit being violently reshuffled by the remaining Blue fuckers They are vicious bastards when their tempers are finally roused."
"... I've never seen brother-sergeant Ruberus show so much as a flash of temper during the time that he's stayed here. Granted I don't have the honor of interacting with him very much, but he's always been unfailingly polite... Though a little... Condescending at times, but I'm not sure he means to be."
Sirass snorts. "If believing that helps you deal with the insufferable bastards, more power to you."
The mortal shifted uncomfortably before muttering "I... Need to return to my patrol. Both the lieutenant and sergeant will be arriving soon. Please stay here until they do." With that the mortal fled his presence.
Weak, clay bastard. But then again, most mortals didn't have so much as a glimmer of Iron within them.

The Spy's Final Mission
Rouge is an agent tasked with returning a living weapon to his containment. Shadow is an experiment who merely wants to find his family and be free from captivity. Once they meet, a huge payout from the President and worldwide glory may not be enough for the super spy to ignore the intrigue of the mysterious Ultimate Lifeform.
Ship: Shadow/Rouge
*Originally published Feb. 24th, 2024
[Chapter 1: Dichotomy]
Rouge the Bat was the top agent and spy in her field.
Efficient, arrogant, and not adverse to using sly tactics to get the job done. She was G.U.N's best tool for tough tasks that required someone quick, quiet, and clever.
Whether the assignment was scouting out threats, infiltrating high-security facilities, or ripping weapons away from dangerous organizations without detection, she was the ace up their sleeve. She had a morally gray stance on the methods she often used to complete a mission, which made the President uneasy, at times.
Occasionally, he feared that she or the other high-status military personnel might go too far one day. That if she got to be too self-serving, she might persuade their soldiers to bend more rules than they were allowed to.
But Rouge hadn't let him down yet, being reliable in succeeding while not technically committing crimes that could be considered immoral. With this in mind, and with the knowledge that they needed her talents, he trusted her as much as he respected her; which was plenty enough to consider the bat more of an asset than a liability.
On one particularly cloudy day, just after she completed a rescue mission for one of their teams that'd gone missing in a high-risk area, her boss received a report that a classified weapon of theirs was stolen by the endlessly troublesome Dr. Eggman.
He looked to Rouge, who lounged in the brown leather armchair that'd unofficially become hers – it was where she'd been seated when she first met the President, and it had become her regular sitting spot when she collected her reward for a job well done.
"Agent, I'm sorry to ask you to stand up so soon," he started, watching her shoulders slump and her head tilt to one side. She wasn't tired, but was clearly a bit annoyed at having to go on another assignment already. "I've just been informed that Dr. Eggman stole something of ours, and it's urgent we get it back."
"Oh," she said, perking up from her vague exasperation. "That's all? Well, sneaking into his base is a piece of cake, I can do that again and be back in no time!"
She stood up, stretching out her arms and wings while the President spoke of her payment. "I hope you understand we can't afford to pay in priceless jewels every time. Since that scientist has never been much of a challenge for you before, I have to be more mindful of what can be spared from the budget."
"Hm," hummed disapprovingly from her closed mouth, which pulled into a doubtful line. Her hands found their place on her wide hips. "That's a shame, Mr. President. Truly, a pity you can't match the value of urgently getting back what he stole…"
The human man was worried she would refuse if not compensated to her liking, so he started trying to bargain with the treasure hunter. While he offered rings, vacations, and anything else that might be of lesser value than her typical taste, Rouge's mind wandered off to a rumor she'd heard about the doctor's secret stash of precious gems.
She didn't know for sure if it was real, but she reckoned even if it wasn't, there must be something he'd gathered or stolen that would look better in her collection.
"Tell ya what, Prez," she said, cutting off the overlander's offer, "I'll accept payment in the form of keeping anything I might decide to grab while I'm in his base. Sound fair?"
The man hesitated. "Well… I don't like encouraging you to steal."
"Oh, darling," Rouge chuckled, swatting the air and flashing her signature charming smile. "Stealing from a menace like Eggman is hardly a crime!"
A small sigh left his lips, but he didn't have much room to try and change her mind. She had a point; and it was more beneficial for him than having to spend from his own pocket. So, the President agreed to Rouge's terms, and she set off to complete the mission.

Shadow the Hedgehog was an experiment recently revived by G.U.N.
He was awakened when his cryostasis pod was opened, where he was immediately defensive towards the men pointing guns at him. Distrusting of his lucidness after coming out of a frozen state, they tranquilized him before transferring his unconscious body to a room where they could monitor his next awakening.
They strapped the lifeform's body to a table to keep him restrained and checked his physical state to determine the risk of attempting to reprogram him to their liking. His vitals were perfect – a marvel to them, as he was created decades before, unable to grow in size or strength since he'd been sealed away.
Regardless, they had gone long enough without using his powers for their own duty of establishing order in the world. He was an artificial being, and thus could be changed and taught to obey as one of their soldiers; but as it stood, he was too powerful to let loose yet.
So, he would remain detained on Prison Island, and would be sealed back into containment once they finished the initial testing of his potential.
Pacified into inactivity, he was left to lay still while the scientists assigned to analyze him prepared elsewhere for the research they would conduct on his sleeping form.
When he woke a second time, sooner than they'd thought he would, Shadow first felt a sense of confusion at where he was, seeing no one in the empty room.
It was a different place than the last location his memories held, and when he tried to sit up, he found himself strapped down. Oblivious to what was happening, he started to feel a pang of panic and worry growing in his chest as his heart rate rose.
He looked over at the beeping monitor beside him and saw it spiking with his heart beat. It was something he was familiar with from the ARK, something humans used. And he remembered briefly being released by them.
'What do they want with me? They were the ones who… locked me up before… right? Do they wish to question me? Dissect me? Or is this… an experiment?'
He couldn't pin down the memories from before they opened his pod, brief flashes of dreadful images flittering in unpleasant snippets. All he knew for sure was that these were humans he couldn't trust, and that asking questions in his head would get him nowhere.
So, he started feeling out the strength of the straps. They were tight, but not unmovable if he put a decent amount of effort into straining against them. He spent a minute getting the straps loose enough to give him a chance at slipping out. But then, he heard the far door begin to open.
They were coming.

Day 1 Gregor/ Overlander:
She was running late. She always was. “Hey darling.” she cooed to the newest baby in the building. “He's growing bigger everyday.” Grace smiled. “He is. Shouldn't you be-?” “yep bye!” she called and hurried out. The wind was whipping around wildly, which is what she blamed for what happened next. Coco never saw the hole. She would regret that for eternity.
“Haha man you can't throw for your life!” he called. “Oh shut up and just go long!” Chase hollered back. He shook his head but did as his best friend asked, running faster, until suddenly he tripped and fell into the pit. At least, that's what Mickey thought it was, until he didn't stop falling.
“Come back!” Sophie whined. “Its getting dark!” “oh hush you big baby.” he shot back. “Please brother.” she whined. “Fine. If you can catch me!” then he took off. He heard her startled shout then the leaves crunch as she gave chase. But she wouldn't catch him. Fred hated that, for one moment he was running, the next he was falling.
As he hurried across the laundry room, Gregor heard a metallic klunk and then a giggle from Boots. "Great, now she's dismantling the dryer," thought Gregor, picking up speed. As he reached the far wall, a strange scene confronted him. The metal grate to an old air duct was wide open, secured by two rusty hinges at the top. Boots was squinting into the darkness, but then a wisp of, what was it? Steam, smoke? The strange vapor surrounded boots, she held out her arms and leaned forward curiously. “No!” gregor yelled and lunged for her, but boots tiny frame seemed to be sucked into the air duct. Without thinking, gregor thrust his head and shoulders into the hole. The metal grate smacked into his back. The next thing he knew, he was falling down, down, down into empty space.
She hummed as she walked, skipping lightly over a root in the ground. She breathed in deeply. She loved Virginia. Suddenly she spotted a small cave, hidden inside a large boulder at the edge of the field. She cautiously stepped forward, walking inside. It was dark. Very very dark. She stumbled and fell. She landed hard on the ground but when she looked up, she spotted a light. She walked quicker and quicker, until finally she was flat out sprinting towards it. Just as she reached it she tripped, sprawling head first into vines. She looked up to find a man watching her. He was pale, paler than any man she had ever seen, and he had purple eyes. “Hello.” she said quietly. “I'm Hope.” the man blinked. He examined her and after a second answered. “Hamnet.”

Judge’s Plate (Smoked Chicken, Spare Ribs, Brisket) w/Cucumber Onion Salad, Side Salad. Q39. Overland Park, Kansas. 8.21.2023.
NOTE TO SELF: When the best thing on the plate at a barbeque restaurant is the cucumber salad, it's probably not the spot I want to be. Not that anything was bad, but I do barbeque so sparingly that I need it to be really good. Had the chicken been all dark meat, I might have liked it best. The spare ribs were decent. Skip the brisket next time.
Currently ranked 7th of 14 August meals.

After The Wizard
available on Tubi
Great. With better writing and acting, it would have been Oscar worthy. Nothing personal against the actors or writers. It just wasn't the best that it could've been.
I found it at a great time personally for me. I had just watched Return to Oz. I then felt compelled to continue on to both Tin Man and Emerald City. I am a bit of an Ozophile.(The Wizard not the Country, although I have nothing against UK South.*she says jokingly.)
.
I had been wondering if, other than reference at the beginning of Return To Oz, anyone had done a Wizard of Oz movie that discussed the psychological ramifications of Dorothy's incident. I am referring of course to what happens after the original movie/book.(Yes, nerds don't yell. I'm aware the 1939 movie is a general fanfiction of the books.)
When Dorothy comes home in the novels, it isn't a dream. In the movie(WOO 1939) it is treated as such but that can be even more psychologically damaging than agreeing she went to a make believe land where animals talked and magic existed. There really isn't a good solution to this conundrum of what to do with Dorothy.
In the books, Dorothy is almost sent to an asylum. Her aunt is the only one who believes her. Not to mention Dorothy would have one hell of a case of PTSD. She is only 10 or 11 years old, not the full 16 years that Judy Gardland had under her belt. (Rumors abound the Studio heads wanted Shirley Temple. Better Age but not the right fit.) Can you imagine the psychological trauma of a child that age(even at 16!) having been accused of murder, then fleeing only to murder someone else?(Yeah, okay, she kills the Nome King too. After she kills the Wicked Witch by Melting.) She is also facing the ordeal of making an overland journey across a strange land, accompanied by people you've only just met. All of this while fleeing because someone is trying to kill you, and you don't feel you did anything to deserve it! I know adults that would be in therapy for years if that happened to them, but this was a young, vulnerable, nieve child?
In Return to Oz, we see a small window into this. They had been sending Dorothy to get EST, electroshock therapy. This is prevented by a girl who is later revealed to be Ozma. It is never addressed fully in RTO if Oz is a dream or a real place.
Tin Man and Emerald City although the both start with a trip from "our"(for lack of a better word) world. But both miniseries play out solely as Oz as a real world. Both worth watching if you can.
An also add, if you can find it, it was recorded on PBS, I think. The Dreamer Of Oz with John Ritter. It's not about the Oz story but about the life of Fraunk L. Baum.
In this movie however, we see a slightly different take. Dorothy is in an orphange, Aunt Em and Uncle Henry dead. Or so it seems. The Scarecrow and Tin Woodsman are looking for her to help Oz which is suffering some undisclosed problems.
Usually, I can get a feel for the "dream cast" that the producers were attempting. I didn't have a sense of that. It seemed like it was just bad producing and casting.
As far as the acting, you work with what you have. The actor can't make a bad line good. It was stilted and uncomfortable. The best way to describe it was that they looked like they were acting.
One obstacle worth noting, the costumes. The choice was made to use practical costumes instead of digital, I assume for money constraints. The Tin Woodsman(I assume a copyright was involved there? They never called him the Tinman, always the Tin Woodsman) I don't need to describe them. I found a photo. It was just crappy. They all were.
However, given all the obstacles it was still a great movie. I can think of spots it would have been better with some tweeks. It was worth watching as a different take on the same story.
I have a soft spot in my heart for Oz stories. I own the limited edition 3 disk DVD of the 1939 Oz.
My next look out is Dorthy and the Witches of Oz if I can find it.
After I finish my current DVD pile and a Tubi movie that looked interesting. It's called Walt before D*sney. I just started it and it's so sugar coated I'm gonna need two insulin shots! I read The Disney Story. They missed a hell of a lot.

trips to the amazon,
trips to the amazon,
The Amazon Rainforest, often referred to as the "lungs of the Earth," is one of the most biodiverse regions on the planet. Stretching across nine countries in South America, the Amazon is an ecosystem that captivates the imagination of travelers, nature enthusiasts, and adventurers alike. If you're looking to experience the unparalleled beauty and vastness of this ancient rainforest, here's everything you need to know about planning an unforgettable trip to the Amazon.
1. Best Time to Visit the Amazon
The Amazon region experiences two main seasons: the wet season and the dry season.
Wet Season (December to May): The wet season is marked by frequent rain showers, which can lead to higher river levels, making certain areas more accessible by boat. This is also the best time for birdwatching, as migratory species flock to the rainforest.
Dry Season (June to November): During this time, the river levels recede, revealing more land and making trekking and hiking easier. However, it’s also the peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds.
If you're interested in seeing more wildlife and experiencing the rainforest in full bloom, the wet season might be ideal. However, the dry season is better for those who want more outdoor activities like jungle hikes.
2. How to Get to the Amazon
The primary gateway to the Amazon is through Manaus, the largest city in the Brazilian Amazon. You can fly into Manaus from major Brazilian cities like Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo. From there, most tours will take you deeper into the rainforest via riverboats, small planes, or overland vehicles, depending on your itinerary.
Alternatively, you can enter the Amazon from Peru through Iquitos or from Ecuador through Coca, where similar access to jungle tours is available.
3. Types of Amazon Experiences
River Cruises: One of the most popular ways to explore the Amazon is via river cruise. These tours often offer a luxurious way to navigate the rivers, allowing you to explore remote areas and spot wildlife from the comfort of your boat. Some cruises provide excursions on smaller boats for closer exploration of tributaries, where you can interact with local tribes and see exotic wildlife.
Jungle Lodges: For a more immersive experience, consider staying at a jungle lodge. These eco-friendly accommodations are located deep within the forest, offering guided tours into the rainforest, where you can learn about the flora and fauna from experienced naturalists. Many lodges also offer activities like night safaris, fishing trips, and indigenous community visits.
Adventure Trekking: For the thrill-seekers, trekking through the Amazon jungle is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Guided expeditions into the heart of the rainforest will take you through rugged terrain, allowing you to see exotic wildlife up close, including monkeys, sloths, and various species of birds. These treks range from a few hours to multi-day expeditions, where you'll camp under the stars and embrace the wilderness.
Wildlife Spotting: The Amazon Rainforest is home to an extraordinary range of animals. From the elusive jaguar and vibrant macaws to the playful river dolphins and curious capybaras, there is no shortage of wildlife to discover. Many tours are designed specifically for wildlife lovers, offering guided excursions to find rare species.
4. Cultural Encounters
A trip to the Amazon also offers a unique opportunity to connect with indigenous tribes that have lived in the region for centuries. These communities offer insights into their traditional ways of life, sustainable practices, and knowledge of the jungle’s medicinal plants. Some tours include visits to these tribes, where you can participate in cultural exchanges, learn about their arts and crafts, and gain a deeper understanding of the forest's significance to their survival.
5. What to Pack for the Amazon
The Amazon's tropical climate means it's warm and humid year-round, so packing the right gear is essential. Here's a quick checklist of must-have items:
Light, moisture-wicking clothing to keep cool in the heat and humidity.
Sturdy, waterproof footwear for trekking through muddy paths.
Insect repellent to protect against mosquitoes and other bugs.
Waterproof bags for protecting your gear during boat rides or in case of rain.
Sunscreen and sunglasses for protection from the strong equatorial sun.
A waterproof camera to capture the beauty of the rainforest without worrying about your equipment getting wet.
6. Safety and Health Tips
Traveling in the Amazon can be physically demanding, so it’s important to be prepared. Here are some safety tips:
Vaccinations: Be sure to check with your healthcare provider about necessary vaccinations, such as yellow fever, typhoid, and hepatitis.
Malaria Prevention: Malaria is a risk in some areas, so taking antimalarial medication is advised. Always consult your doctor before your trip.
Stay Hydrated: The heat and humidity can be intense, so drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Follow Your Guide’s Instructions: The jungle can be unpredictable, so always follow your guide’s advice, whether it's about navigating the terrain or avoiding dangerous animals.
7. Eco-tourism and Conservation Efforts
With the Amazon facing numerous environmental threats, sustainable travel is more important than ever. Many tours emphasize eco-friendly practices, such as supporting local communities, reducing waste, and preserving the rainforest's delicate ecosystems. By choosing eco-conscious tours, you can help protect this vital part of the world for generations to come.
Conclusion
A trip to the Amazon is an unforgettable adventure for those seeking to immerse themselves in one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. Whether you're floating down the river, trekking through the jungle, or interacting with indigenous cultures, the Amazon offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with nature in its purest form. Embrace the adventure, and let the heart of the rainforest captivate your senses.

Journal 3 - Green Eggs and Harpies?
A loud rumble shook the walls around me. I found myself back on the mule-drawn cart, putting distance between myself and the edge of the forest near my grove. The merchant and his wife chatted quietly about taxes in Westbridge, their voices blending with the steady creak of the wheels. Suddenly, I heard the heavy thump of footsteps—a large presence approaching from the forest. Just as the trees began to fall and a dark shape was about to step into the sunlight, I woke up.
As my eyes adjusted to the light in the room, I heard loud snoring coming from down the hall. I saw Urzha and Illy walking down the hall, talking about breakfast, so I joined them, and we all went to the dining room.
We selected a large table for our group. Rinaldo greeted us and asked what we would like to eat: Green Eggs or Trout and Greens. Urzha and Illy ate a lot of eggs—A LOT of eggs. I was served nicely prepared trout and a bitter green that I decided to call "Winter Stalks" since I had no idea what they were called locally. Faelen showed up shortly after we started eating, as did a couple of the ladies who had been at the library last night. Meren was not in the mess hall; apparently, he wanders from time to time and would show up at some point.
As Krevek, Illy, and Urzha finished off a second plate of eggs, we decided to talk to the ladies from last night to get more info on Claud the Hag. Grace told us that he would have been happy to die doing what he loved. Pericule, her husband, had been fishing in a boat called The Old Knucklehead. They didn’t know where the secret fishing site was but were glad we would look into his disappearance. I noticed what seemed to be a shard of quartz or a similar stone around her neck, seemingly designed to match another stone. I decided to ask about it, even though I knew it would be difficult for her, assuming it was a gift from her husband. She said the stone came from the shore near the docks and then explained their entire relationship. We promised to do our best and then took our leave.
Captain Imdra walked in and noticed we were talking to the widow. I informed her that I wanted to talk to her about the widow’s late husband, and she said that it was exactly what she wanted to discuss with us. She said their fishing spot was known and very cursed. It was on an island down the coast to the north. We would have to tow the boat to open water since most of the coast was frozen solid. I asked about beasts of burden to possibly tow the boat, and Captain Imdra told me about dogs and axe beaks. Apparently, we would be able to tow it fine ourselves, though axe beaks are great for overland travel. I asked about which stable she would recommend, and she replied, "Gregor’s stable." She also told us about a skiff called The Skiff, a medium-sized boat sitting on the ice four docks north of Scython’s Ferry, which we would take to the island. Luckily, Faelen was a sailor, so we wouldn’t have any issues on the boat. I was glad, as I had never been on a boat before besides the ferry yesterday. Back in the Grove, if we needed to cross water, we would either swim or the elders would wildshape into forms to help us cross.
We reached Gregor’s, a large stable with many axe beaks roaming around. Gregor offered us some eggs, and I learned that the eggs at the inn were indeed axe beak eggs. I was glad the green eggs weren’t actually bad; maybe I’d try some tomorrow morning! Krevek ordered a dozen eggs and put them in his bag. I saw a couple of young axe beaks, and I approached them. I put my hand out and willed one of them to come closer. It suddenly rammed into my hand, and it hurt like heck! Gregor told me that they get a little ornery without food, so I asked to feed them. He handed me some hay, and I fed it. The mother then approached, eyeing me. I turned to her and offered her some food. As she ate, I petted her and blessed her in the name of the Lady of the Lake. Gregor then informed us it was 50 gold per axe beak. We definitely didn’t have enough for one, so we said we would return if we needed a beast of burden. We then left to find the skiff.
It turned out the name of the boat was actually The Skip, and we dragged the boat to open water. It wasn’t fun or really difficult—just cumbersome. As we sailed up the coast, we arrived at a creepy island. It had three cave mouths, and as we looked at it, an alluring singing voice pierced the wind. Illy started to act strangely and walked toward the edge of the boat. Krevek suddenly pulled Illy’s cloak, toppling him to the ground.
Just then, a naked bird-lady creature came flying at us! It looked vicious and mean, so Urzha and I flung two spells at it. Illy seemed to regain his senses and stood back up. Faelen tossed a knife at the bird creature but missed by a wide margin. Another bird-lady swooped into the fight from the cliffside, charging toward our boat in a flurry of feathers and skin. Krevek hurled a hand axe at the new one and hit it squarely, but the axe fell into the lake. I shot another starry wisp at the first bird creature, hitting it and causing it to screech. It then swooped down to Krevek, managing to claw him and drawing blood. Urzha cast some kind of bane spell at the creatures, and Illy struck the first one with his axe, nearly killing it. Faelen then moved like the wind between us, spinning around the mast and launching at the first bird, kicking it in the head and snapping its neck. The other bird creature bolted away, but Illy managed to hit it with an arrow. Urzha conjured an extremely bright energy and hurled it at the fleeing creature but missed. As we caught our breath after the fight, I asked what these bird creatures were, and Faelen told me they were harpies—monsters that lure sailors to watery deaths by charming them with song. We beached the boat and stepped onto the island.
Krevek communed with the land to sense magic. While we waited for Krevek to complete his ritual, we noticed the ice cave at beach level was making howling noises. Everyone started to put on these things called "crampons" on their shoes. Illy and I didn’t have these crampons, so we had to find a way to walk on the ice. Krevek offered me a ride on his back and tied Illy to him to help him not fall. However, Illy took a spill right at the start, so we decided to move more slowly.
As we explored the cave, we approached a frozen waterfall about ten feet high. We decided to make a human ladder out of Krevek and me. Faelen then climbed up our ladder and secured a rope for the rest of us to use. I was the first to try to climb up, but I slipped, and my knee went through the ice. A hole opened up, and water began to spew out. The water then collected into a mass, forming a serpent-like creature.
Seeing this, Urzha caused bells to ring out, hurting the creature. Faelen then jumped down from the waterfall, bounced off Krevek, and landed beside him, unaffected by the ice. He kicked the monster, but the blow seemed dampened. The monster charged through the group, but Krevek and Faelen dodged it. Illy then charged in and swung his sword, but it seemed to pass through, causing minimal damage. Krevek also swung his great sword with similar results. I conjured a ball of flame and threw it at the creature; it hit and sizzled, rippling across its surface before fading. Urzha and Faelen attacked again, and Urzha struck the creature. Illy sliced it again, nearly severing a tendril. Krevek climbed up the rope and threw his other hand axe, landing a blow before it skittered across the ice floor. I shouted to Urzha, "Remember the spell you cast at the fleeing harpy? Cover your eyes!" I then replicated her spell, casting a green-veiled Guiding Bolt toward the creature, hitting it and causing a rainbow of light to fill the cavern. Faelen then kicked the creature, which dissolved back into water.
After the fight, Illy noticed a pick and a backpack near the waterfall. Inside were bags of what had once been food and a strange necklace. It was a gold brooch that triggered Krevek's detect-magic spell. While Krevek redid the ritual for his detect-magic spell, I recalled a creature similar to it—something called a Water Weird.
