The Best News of Last Month - July 2024
🏅- Talk about an Olympic comeback!
1. U.S. proposes ban on airline fees for seating parents next to kids
Parents should't have to pay a fee to sit next to their children when flying, according to the White House, which is moving to ban airlines from charging families extra to be seated together.
Under a rule proposed Thursday by the Department of Transportation, airlines would be required to seat parents and kids 13 and younger together free of charge when adjacent seating is available at booking.
2. A spinal injury killed Adriana Ruano's dream as a gymnast. She just won Guatemala's first Olympic gold medal as a shooter.
Ruano was training for the 2011 world championships in gymnastics, a qualifier for the London Olympics the following year, when she felt pain in her back. An MRI showed the then-16-year-old had six damaged vertebrae — a career-ending injury.
But on Wednesday, she came back as a shooter and won Guatemala's first Olympic gold medal.
3. Woman swept out to sea rescued after surviving 37 hours in 6.5' waves, drifted over 50 miles.
A Chinese woman who was swept out to sea while swimming at a Japanese beach was rescued 37 hours later after drifting in an inflatable swim ring more than 80 kilometers (50 miles) in the Pacific Ocean, officials said Thursday.
4. Afghan Sisters Escape The Taliban To Achieve Olympic Dreams
Sisters Yulduz and Fariba Hashimi are set to become the first female cyclists from Afghanistan to compete in the Olympics. The siblings fled their country after the Taliban seized power in 2021 and cracked down on women's rights, including banning women from participating in sports.
5. Stem cell therapy cures man with type 2 diabetes
A 59-year-old man had been suffering from diabetes for 25 years, needing more and more insulin every day to avoid slipping into a diabetic coma and was at risk of death. But then Chinese researchers cured his disease for the first time in the world. The patient received a cell transplant in 2021 and has not taken any medication since 2022.
6. Seventh person likely 'cured' of HIV, doctors announce
A 60-year-old German man is likely the seventh person to be effectively cured from HIV after receiving a stem cell transplant, doctors announced on Thursday. The man received a bone marrow transplant for his leukaemia in 2015. The procedure, which has a 10 percent risk of death, essentially replaces a person's immune system.
7. Every country has now banned the use of leaded gasoline in cars
Three and a half decades later, in 2021, Algeria became the last country to ban it. Leaded gasoline is now banned from being used in road vehicles in every country. It is a big win for the health of people around the world.

Hi! My friend and I are getting into hockey and we’re kind of wondering what the vibe on Max Domi is?? I’m kind of seeing mixed messages about him so we were wondering why you like him so we can figure out what his deal is and if we should try to pay attention to him more on the leafs. Thanks!
hi anon!! just wanna say before i get going that i’m in love with this ask and you by extension for asking, and i’m sorry this took me so long!
now on to the propaganda (this is long i’m not sorry)
i’m obligated to preface this by saying i’m hugely biased as a Leafs fan who grew up in Southern Ontario. my dad has always been a pretty big Tie Domi fan, so liking Max just seemed like a natural continuation of that.
baby Max with Mats Sundin, then-captain of the Leafs. he’s just a little guy,,
born March 2nd, 1995, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, one month before Tie was traded (back) to the Leafs, Max spent his childhood in Mississauga, Ontario, roughly half an hour west of Toronto. at the age of 12, following some health complications at a hockey tournament in Detroit, blood work revealed that Max had type 1 diabetes and celiac disease.
not the end of the world, clearly, but a pretty significant shock for a kid with aspirations of greatness. of course, he was able to manage it, with time, and when i finally read his book i’ll tell y’all more about it i promise.
these pictures make me emotional,, a couple of Domis, a couple of decades apart,,, except Max looks about 200% cuntier
anyway
scored a hatty in his OHL debut (slay). won consecutive OHL championships with the London Knights in 2012 and 2013 (double slay). selected 12th overall by the Phoenix (now Arizona) Coyotes, and signed a three year ELC (!). won gold with Team Canada at the 2015 WJC, and was named the tournament’s best forward (huge W). traded to the Montréal Canadiens in 2018, to the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2020, to the Carolina Hurricanes (via the Florida Panthers) at the trade deadline of March 31st 2022, to the Chicago Blackhawks in July of 2022, to the Dallas Stars in March 2023, and finally signed as a free agent to our beloved Toronto Maple Leafs on July 2nd 2023. he’s been on seven different NHL teams since he was drafted.
sadly, as i’ve only been a hockey fan for one calendar year, i cannot provide much insight into his time with NHL teams other than the Leafs. i have ordered and am waiting for his book to come in so i can better rotate him in my mind, but i encourage anyone who knows more about his other teams’ lore to add to this post or send me what you know, so i can share it with the world. (pls i wanna know everything about him ever)
what i can say is that him and Mitch Marner were teammates on the London Knights for two seasons, (13-14 and 14-15), the second of which saw Max as captain and Mitch as an alternate captain. the season after, Mitch was named captain in Max’s stead. seeing them back together on the Leafs brings joy to my little London Knights heart.
now back to him as a Leaf.
the current Leafs points leaders, as of December 30th, are as follows:
William Nylander - 48P (17G 31A)
Auston Matthews - 44P (29G 15A)
Mitch Marner - 38P (14G 24A)
John Tavares - 31P (11G 20A)
Morgan Rielly - 27P (4G 23A)
Max Domi - 21P (3G 18A)
the first five of these are pretty much to be expected, but there’s my close good friend Max Domi right there too :) he’s doing his part, and even if he’s not the biggest scorer, assists are just as important and valuable :) if i have to kill y’all with positivity for this i will :) i love him dearly :)
also, he currently sits at 389 career points, and he’s nowhere near done, while Tie Domi earned 245 points in his entire career of 1020 games. nobody can say shit to me about him not living up to his dad’s legacy (Note: Tie also sits at third in NHL history for penalty minutes with 3515, but that’s a stat nobody will ever surpass. ever. the current PIM leader in the NHL is Corey Perry, and he only has 1392.)
and now i’m not about to sit here and pretend i know how to quantify the skills of an NHL player, let alone describe them in great detail. i do not. however, what i do know is that i love watching him play and make plays. in my eyes, he is a good player, and this is the Max Domi Propaganda Blog so if you want something less biased i can’t help you, sorry :’)
this love began in a preseason game against the Habs, on Oct 2nd. his first game as a Leaf in Toronto, he scores a tip-in against his former team, and he shrugs it off like NBD. for those of you who were following me at the time, you know i was not normal about it then and i am not normal about it now. i think about that celly every goddamn day.
much to my great sorrow, they Leafed this game up and lost in OT 5-4. but either way, this was the moment that definitively kicked off the Rick eastoncowan Domishka era.
and the only time Max ever seems to get a scoring chance, it’s either on a breakaway or from a spot that would have been absolutely NASTY if it went in. my mans only wants sexy goals, which is a stance i respect immensely.
his first regular season goal… didn’t give him any points. it was beautiful, and a game winner, but since it happened in a shootout, it didn’t count towards his points totals. personally, i think this is bullshit, but now is neither the time nor the place for me to get into my issues with some of the NHL’s rules. (Nov 10, 2023, Flames @ Leafs)
Domishka bardownski SO winner,,, you were so beautiful and so unappreciated but i will never forget you </3
now.
Max’s first real goal as a Leaf.
for those of you who followed me at the time, you may recall this post:
a post that the Hockey Gods took to heart
and obviously i followed through. what do you think i am, some kind of quitter?
and, again, unfortunately, we Leafed that one up, too. we lost it in OT again, so still no Domi belt pic for Rick :(
now i’m not going to go back and gif all 18 of his assists, because i don’t think y’all care quite that much about Visual Proof of all of them. for your convenience, though, i did go back and track down whose goals he had assisted on, and the results aren’t super surprising IMO
Calle Järnkrok, Nick Robertson (assisted on 5 each)
Matthew Knies (assisted on 4)
William Nylander, Morgan Rielly, Mitch Marner, Timothy Liljegren (assisted on 1 each)
anyway, now for what is quite possibly my favourite game that i didn’t actually get to watch live.
December 16, 2023, Penguins @ Leafs, a decisive 7-0 victory.
it was also a 3 point night for Max, two of which helped to complete Matthew Knies’ Gordie Howe hat trick, the first since Daniel Winnik in 2015. but a goal and an assist are only two parts of it, the third being a fight. a fight which Knies initiated against John Ludvig after he knocked out yet another of Max’s front teeth with his stick. a fight which was Knies’ first ever. i’m still mad i didn’t see this happen live, but i’ve rewatched the game in its entirety twice, and the highlights too many times to count. this game sparked my undying love for the 23-11-16 line, which is a line i still pray keefe will bring back.
and so, we have a goal and a fight, and we have an assist to finish off the hat trick, and none of it would have happened without Max :)
and speaking of fights, Max has had a couple of em himself in his time as a Leaf so far. granted, if you ask hockeyfights dot com, he didn’t win either of them, but that’s not what matters. what matters is that he looked beautiful doing it, whether it was against Ian Cole (VAN) or Sam Bennett (FLA), especially with the fun added bonus of him flexing his full head of hair at Bennett’s bald dome. as an aside, i fucking hate Sam Bennett, so Max trying to fight him was… well it made me feel things. all i’m gonna say.
max’s third goal was also gorgeous. stunning. amazing. another beautiful bardown, the sound of which lives on in my dreams.
this is getting far longer than it really needs to be, so i’ll take a step back and give you my true, honest thoughts.
Max Domi has been a very helpful player for the Leafs since he got here. he obviously has the drive to play here and to play well here, and 21 points is nothing to be ashamed of. you know who else has 21 points as of me writing this? Alex Ovechkin. and now i’m not saying they are players of the same caliber, but Max is 6th on the Leafs in points, and Ovi is tied for first on the Caps. 21 points is still 21 points, no matter where in the standings someone is. Max was born to be a Leaf, and nothing makes me happier than to see him here and thriving on the team he’s loved since he was a kid. he takes shots, blocks shots, defends his boys and is defended right back in turn.
and i would not be Rick eastoncowan if i didn’t mention that i think he is hot. like stupid hot. especially without his teeth. fuck, the heart wants what the heart wants, and damn if my heart doesn’t want this tiny toothless idiot.
#ask#anonymous#toronto maple leafs#max domi#rick's gifs#domi primer#this took me far too long#but finally it is here#the 1600+ word max domi primer#heavily biased because this is my writing#and y'all have to expect that from me at this point#anyway please enjoy#i made gifs special#this was made with so much love

Naomi's Basic Info
Name: Naomi Seika Sato
Now, I know Naomi has only appeared maybe three times in my writing (the winter stories from 2022), but I have plans on adding her to some of my future stories, so I figured I might as well make a board for her. Again, this was surprisingly easy, and the only one I had any difficulty finding was an actress from the 60s as there weren't a ton of well-known Asian actresses. Anyway, in the 60s, we have Irene Tsu (How To Stuff a Wild Bikini); the 80s, Cherie Chung (An Autumn's Tale); the 90s, Nicole Bilderback (Bring It On); and now, Momona Tamada (Avatar: The Last Airbender).
Nicknames: Mimi, NayNay (by very few people), and Koneko (a Japanese term of endearment that means "kitten". Only her grandparents call her that, and it's mostly her grandfather)
Age: 17
Date of Birth: September 29
Zodiac: Libra
Birthstone: Sapphire
Nationality: Asian-American
Sexuality: Asexual, but don't tell her grandmother that. The woman desperately wants grandbabies, and Naomi has no interest in ever giving her any. Her parents and grandfather know and don't care so long as she's happy, but they all know better than to tell her grandma.
Birthplace: St. John's Riverside Hospital, Yonkers, New York
Current Residence: Park Street, Rockland, Maine
Occupation: High school junior, professional figure skater, junior medical assistant at her parent’s office
Talents/Skills: Acting (mostly in high school or town productions), making flip books, animating short videos
Birth order: Only
Parents: Kyoya Jin Sato and Hina Mai Suoh
Signature:
Height: 51”
Race: Japanese-American
Eye Color: Dark brown, almost black
Hair Color: Brown
Glasses or contact lenses: Glasses for reading, contacts for fun
Distinguishing features: A birthmark on her hip that looks almost like a cherry blossom, a scar on her inner right calf from a skating incident, and a single dimple on her left cheek
Mannerisms: Bopping her head to music, mumbling to herself while working on projects, and keeping the tip of her tongue between her lips when she’s deep in thought
Health: Chronic migraines, Type-1 Diabetes, and POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome)
Hobbies: Gardening, baking, watching anime and Chinese historical dramas, playing cozy games, scrolling Pinterest, writing fanfictions, and cosplaying
Greatest flaw (in their opinion): How everyone still sees her as a child/childish. As the only child/grandchild in her family, Naomi is often babied by her family members. Her father was an only child, and her mother was the only daughter of four kids and was the golden child, leading to Naomi feeling more like a toddler as anyone who came to visit would treat her like a little doll. She appreciates their love and care, but all she really wants is for her family to see her as the near-adult she is, not some naive little girl in need of shelter from the outside world. In a way, that was the reason she and Lexi became friends. She needed someone in her life who treated her like an actual person, not a child.
Best quality (in their opinion): Her determination to succeed in everything she does. While she doesn’t fear failure or disappointing her family, she strives to be the best version of herself she can be. Whether it’s working hard at her family’s practice, learning new skating skills, or trying out a new recipe, Naomi puts her whole heart into all she does. She is a very determined individual, but that doesn’t stop her from taking breaks now and then or spending time caring for herself.
Biggest fear: Losing her sense of self for the sake of others. Naomi is fairly confident in who she is as a person - an intelligent, pink-loving, figure skater who wants nothing more than to help her parents run their practice. However, she fears that someday, if she were to find herself looking for a different job or maybe falling in love, those people would try to change who she is for the sake of professionalism and maturity. She has taken the time to grow into who she is and finally loves herself just as she is; the last thing she wants is for someone to try to change her to meet their needs. If they can’t love her for who she is, Naomi knows it isn’t worth it, but she knows she wants love sometime down the road, and the thought of giving up her style and personality for someone to see her as a mature human being is something that deeply terrifies her. Real life is nothing like the books or movies she loves so deeply, after all, and she knows this. That is why she keeps many potential friendships/relationships at a distance until she knows they won’t try to change her.
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Favorite ice cream: Strawberry mochi
Favorite color: Pastel pink
Favorite number: 2, as the number represents balance and harmony in Japanese culture
Favorite songs: ballad of a homeschooled girl by Olivia Rodrigo, ALICE by PEGGY, and Platonic Love Song #1 by Lauren Bird
A place they want to visit: Forbidden City, China, or Bunkyo City, Japan

Blue Sky Podcast Celebrates National Optimism Month In March
Did you know that March is National Optimism Month? Being optimistic is now harder than ever. Politicians not in power describe doom and gloom. Social media is a viper's nest of the worst humanity has to offer. The local news only focuses on the bad stuff -- fires, crime, violence, and even meteorological scare tactics. Intolerance threatens democracy globally as we are expected to conform to a specific lifestyle and religion.
But there is still plenty of reason to be optimistic. Reason number one for optimism is personal health and wellness.
An American study of 2,564 men and women who were 65 and older also found that optimism is good for blood pressure. Researchers used a four-item positive-emotion summary scale to evaluate each participant during a home visit. They also measured blood pressure, height, and weight and collected information about age, marital status, alcohol use, diabetes, and medication. Even after taking these other factors into account, people with positive emotions had lower blood pressures than those with a negative outlook. On average, the people with the most positive emotions had the lowest blood pressure. The results of this research show that compared to optimists, pessimists nurtured little hope for the future and were more at risk for depressive and anxiety disorders, with subsequent impairment of social functioning and quality of life. The role of optimism in the quality of life has also been investigated in depressive disorders emerging in patients suffering from somatic pathologies, (such as acute coronary syndrome, for instance) in which a significant inverse correlation was found between dispositional optimism and level of satisfaction in life on one hand and depressive symptoms emerging after the cardiovascular event on the other hand
What does all this have to do with podcasting?
Two words. Blue Sky.
Blue Sky is hosted by Bill Burke, founder of The Optimism Institute, and this weekly podcast features inspiring leaders, authors, researchers, and big thinkers who are taking on some of our world’s toughest challenges with an infectious sense of optimism. Blue Sky takes its name from the meditation reminder that there’s always blue sky above, sometimes you just have to get your head above the clouds to see it. The show is hosted by Bill Burke, founder of The Optimism Institute and former media executive (president of TBS Superstation, and led the launch of Turner Classic Movies!)
Since March is National Optimism Month, the Blue Sky podcast has a special milestone 50th episode with author / podcaster Kelly Corrigan of the Kelly Corrigan Wonders podcast.
On the 50th episode, Kelly Corrigan describes to Bill Burke the many things she’s learned in her life and career about optimism and how we all can benefit from life’s setbacks to become better people and forge stronger relationships. Kelly reflects on lessons she learned from her parents, and how facing her own cancer diagnosis and battle with the disease left her with a greater sense of empathy for others with similar hardships. She also explains why she thinks intellectual humility is a key ingredient for an optimistic outlook, and also that “there’s no feeling as good as being useful to someone.”
It is a thoughtful, lively, entertaining, and thoroughly optimistic discussion.
One of my favorite episodes is with Kathryn Goetzke in August 2023. Following a challenging childhood and the tragic death of her father, Goetzke decided that the best way to tackle depression and despair is to create reasons for hope. After studying the issue deeply with experts in psychology, she determined that hope was both teachable and measurable, and has made it her life’s work to spread this message. In 2022, she published The Biggest Little Book About Hope, and continues to be a global mental health ambassador. She was recently appointed to represent the World Federation for Mental Health at the United Nations and in this Blue Sky episode she describes how she came to be so passionate about this work and why she remains so committed to the cause of spreading the good news about the powerful effects of maintaining a hopeful attitude.
Check out Blue Sky. Burke is a terrific host with a pleasing voice and humble manner, but he's not a pie-in-the-sky Pollyanna. There are so many energizing episodes where Burke talks with people who have a "get-it-done" mentality instead of a "what's the use" mindset.
I'll end by stating that I am optimistic that you will listen to Blue Sky. President Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, "Pessimism never won any battle."

Another Virgin Galactic flight today, this time a research flight with three commercial sub-orbital astronauts onboard. Galactic 05 will be the 14th powered flight of VSS Unity which with take off onboard the carrier aircraft Eve at 14:30UT. However it won't be televised (as will be the norm in future, apparently multi-millionaires are shy). One of the passengers has still not been revealed but is a franco-italian. The other two are payload specialists. Dr Alan Stern (pictured on left) is a US Planetary scientist and associate Vice President in Southwest Research Institutes (SwRI) space sector. He is best known as the principle investigator of the New Horizons Pluto mission and has played a key role in 30 sub-orbital, orbital and planetary space missions. He is also a former NASA Associate Administartor. He will be wearing a biomedical monitoring harness during the flight and conducting a dummy run for the operation of an astronomy camera. Stern will wear a Accutracker-II biomedical harness, Various iterations of this have previously flown on 68 Space Shuttle missons and Stern has also worn it during F104 Starfighter research flights. Dr Stern will also practice taking astronomical observations with a mock up Xybion wide angle visible and UV camera, for which he is principle investigator. This has also previously flown on two Space Shuttle missions. The real camera will be flown on a future flight, under NASA's Flight Opportunities program, for which Dr Stern will be practicing. Kelli Gerardi is a US Bioastronautics Researcher from the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences (IIAS). She is operations lead for Palantir Technologies. She will be wearing a boimedical monitoring shirt and conducting payload experiments developed with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). She has also previously conducted an expedition to the analog Mars Desert Research Station and is an online presenter. She is the authour of 'Not Necessarily Rocket Science' and the childrens picture book series 'Luna Muna." During the flight Gerardi will wear and Asrtoskin, developed by IIAS, a biomonitoring lightweight shirt which has an all in one sensor suite developed by Candadian company Carré Technologies and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). It has an electrocardiogram which will monitor heart rate, breathing rate and temperature throughout all phases of the flight. The shirt is also used by astonauts while onboard the ISS. She will also conduct the IIAS experiment 'Configuration of a Confined Fluid in a Low Gravity Enviroment'. Gerardi will operate a fluid cell designed to better help predict and control the shape and location of fluid within a container in microgravity. This data can help inform the design of life-support systems and new medical syringe designs. Finally Gerardi will 'deploy' an implantable sensor that can continuously sample blood glucose levels and record them in the IIAS experiment 'Contiunous Blood Glucoose Monitoring in Suborbital Flight'. There is growing evidence that long duration spaceflight induces insulin resistance, a pre-diabetic state. This will offer insights, it is hoped, as to how quickly insulin-resitance develops during spaceflight. This will be one of the first uses of a glucose monitor in a microgravity enviroment. The next Virgin Galactic flight, Galactic 06, will be in January 2024. Rival Blue Origin is set to resume New Shepard flights (with a new booster), following an FAA investigation, on 30 November after booster NS4 suffered an engine failure on Flight NS-23, in September 2022, triggering the capsule to fire it's launch escape motor. Fortunately it was a research flight with no crew onboard. This upcoming flight is also an uncrewed research flight to check all is well with the new booster.

Do all nursing homes have dietary programs in place to ensure residents receive regular meals?
Absolutely, nursing homes are responsible for providing meals to their residents. This essential aspect of care ensures that residents receive proper nutrition, catering to their dietary needs and preferences.
Meal planning in nursing homes is a meticulous process, taking into account any dietary restrictions, allergies, or medical conditions of the residents.
It's a collaborative effort involving nutritionists, dietitians, and kitchen staff to ensure that the meals are not only nutritious but also enjoyable.
In nursing homes, meals are typically served in communal dining areas, fostering social interaction among residents. Special attention is given to those with specific dietary requirements, such as diabetics or individuals on pureed diets.
The goal is to provide a well-balanced diet that meets the residents' nutritional needs while taking into consideration their individual preferences. So, rest assured, nursing homes prioritize the health and well-being of their residents by providing regular and nutritious meals.

I have finally felt the effects of type 1 Diabetes with a bit of a mental breakdown
I started this blog on Blogger but have changed over to Tumblr as it is far easier to personalise. so I will start by adding the posts that I have already created.
In my first post, I talked about how, after being diagnosed with T1D around a year ago, it had been the first time that I had really let it affect me and how I had a little bit of a mental break down.
I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes in April 2022, and to be honest, I took it in my stride. It didn't get to me and even if it did I would not let anyone know especially my kids.My whole intention was to show my kids that nothing can hold you back even Type One Diabetes and I also wanted to prove doctors wrong who told me that I would not be able to compete in cycling and would have to be on a low carb high fat and high protein diet.
I read as much as I could about diets and exercise and found that if I actually cut out meat and high fat foods it could improve my insulin sensitivity, so I went plantbased and have been really sucessful at controlling my diabetes with eating more carbs than I have ever before. It was not until Sunday and the Essex Roads Road Race that it really affected me, my levels had been playing up all week leading up to the race. On the day my levels were high but not massively high at around 7.5, for the first couple of laps I felt really good but then my levels started flying up and my energy just drained out of me.
I had been off the front chasing a break but then had to let the group catch me as I had no legs and was fading fast and thought that I might be able to recover in the wheels. I was just about hanging on until Pan Lane and just could not hold on and had to pull the plug with my levels still rising at nearly 15.I was devastated, it was the first time that I had really had diabetes affect me and it made me feel worse that I was racing with people that I was able to ride with easily before I got ill. I was so upset that being honest, I even cried when I got back to my wife, I was even thinking about giving up cycling.
This I dont believe that I would have ever gone through with as I love cycling and racing and I am determined to achieve my goals. I was also reading a book about Luke and Tom Stoltman which helped me see that if you keep going, work hard and leave no stone unturned you can achieve great things. Tom Stoltman has Autism and he says that it is his super power. So I am going to treat my diabetes as my super power I will train harder but smarter than I ever have, I will become fitter and stronger than I ever have been and not just in body but also in mind. By doing this I will give myself every chance of achieving my goals as long as I do not give up.
I have ordered myself a 7ft olympic bar and weights and squat rack so that I can work on deadlifts and squats, which will help my leg strength and core strength. I am also doing a lot of research on how different breathing techniques can help with performance and health.I have a race this Sunday at Darley Moor race track so will give it my best, I am going to do something that I find very difficult and sit mid pack for the whole race and attack with 2 to go like what happened to me in the last race I did at this track.
I am going to write updates as regularly as I can because I would like others in my situation to see that it can be done that you can still achieve great results with T1D and that there is no shame in showing that you are struggling sometimes. T1D is a daily battle that is on your mind 24/7 with no break and can be extremely draining. Please do not feel that you have to read these, I will not be affended. Even if this blog helps one person, I will be happy.
Dream big, work hard, keep trying never give up, and believe that you can achieve 👊

The Blue Zones American Kitchen: 100 Recipes to Live to 100 – December 6, 2022 by Dan Buettner (Author)
The Blue Zones American Kitchen: 100 Recipes to Live to 100 – December 6, 2022 by Dan Buettner (Author)
Best-selling Blue Zones Kitchen author Dan Buettner spent years uncovering the Blue Zones--the five places around the world where people consistently live to or past, 100--and sharing lifestyle tips and recipes gleaned from these places. Now, creating your own Blue Zone at home is easier than ever, thanks to plant-forward recipes in this inspiring book--all developed right in our own backyard.
In Blue Zones American Kitchen, Buettner uncovers the traditional roots of plant-forward cuisine in the United States. Following the acumen of heritage cooks who have passed their recipes from generation to generation, Buettner uncovers the regions and cultures that have shaped America’s healthiest food landscapes, from Hmong elders living in Minnesota to Quakers in New England. Along the way, he illuminates both traditional and revolutionary ideas in vegetarian food with recipes from chefs like executive chef James Wayman, “the Gullah chef” Bill Green, and “the Cod Chef” Dave Smoke-McCluskey.
With wisdom from more than 50 food experts, chefs, and cooks around the country, Buettner’s road trip across America sheds light on some of its most under-recognized plant-forward communities as Buettner shares the ingredients, recipes, and lifestyle tips that will make living to 100 both delicious and easy. And the proof is in the pudding: 49 Blue Zones Project Cities have demonstrated that eating the Blue Zones way can alleviate obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and more.
Filled with 100 tasty recipes, from Pennsylvania Dutch apple dumplings to Southern Hoppin’ John, Blue Zones American Kitchen will change your diet--and your life.

2016- Diabetes diagnosis, I almost died because of hyperglicemia

2018- My hyperfixation is most important, everything is okay
2019- Hyperfixations worns out slowly. Grandpa dies, sister moves away. Kids don't like me much. I began to feel anxiety and I cry a lot. I realize I am not cishet. I am a lesbian, then a non-binary ace lesbian named Aiden, then I realize I am transgender and bi, my new name is Gabriel. I self harm, and tell my most trusted teacher. She sends me to a therapist, and I find out I might be autistic.
2020- Actually, I am transgender and gay, and my name is Michael. The pandemic is okay, because I can stay inside and play my horse game instead of studying. But I can't contact with my classmates anymore. Making a one-shot book on wattpad. In October, I attempt to choke myself several times.
2021- Our class gets reorganized, I end up in a new class. The kids there are mean and I don't know how to talk to them. They end up bullying me. But it's okay, because the literature teacher appreciates me, I am her most active student. I am also the best at history, with the teacher being our headmaster. I develop OCD. Dad dies. Somewhere in June I get to a hospital with an infecion, leave after two weeks. I get my first parrot, he dies after two weeks. I get another parrot.
2022- School is hell. The girls are mean, so I snap at one of them and end up in the counselor's for attacking her. I don't get punished because the headmaster knows my mother. I start this blog, and people like my writing. But in two months, school ends. I try to get to the art high school, but don't get accepted. I choose a different high school. Grandma dies. I buy another parrot. Then I buy a mantis. Summer is okay. The new school turns out to be great, all the people are friendly. I still struggle with people my age, but I get along well with a guy two years older than me. I get tarantulas after wanting them since 2020. I find a new special interest.
2023- I find out I am a pogan. I get a boyfriend....To be continued.

#JamesDonaldson On #MentalHealth - Why #Doctors Don’t Seek #MentalHealth Help
Medical professionals are superheroes whose stressful routine distracts them from addressing their own well-being. #Mentalhealth is a key factor in determining one’s overall health condition. Staying mentally healthy is essential for everyone and is a vital criterion for #doctors. Very often we tend to think that #doctors have it all together and need little to very less support. Related: The weight of men’s #mentalhealth However, medical professionals are continually exposed to heavy workloads, traumatic conditions, erratic working hours, and challenging situations. Yet, seeking help for #mentalhealth might be the last thing most #doctors have on their to-do lists. It does not take too long for medical professionals to feel burnt out in life. A study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania in 2006 showed a burnout rate of 4.3 to 55.3 per cent in the first post-graduate year of training, commonly known as the “intern” year. Emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and a sense of decreased personal accomplishment were some of the common traits associated with #students within the first year. Related: #Mentalhealth: an urgent priority for Africa The #American College of Emergency #Physicians cited a recent article published in The Atlantic, revealing that 300 to 400 #physicians die by #suicide each year. The study also revealed that #suicide rates were 250 to 400 per cent higher among #female #physicians when compared to #females in other professions. Another study conducted by Medscape on #Physician #Suicide in 2022 revealed that 11 per cent of #female #doctors and nine per cent of #male #doctors have had #suicidalthoughts. Besides, 64 per cent of #doctors experienced colloquial #depression. Dr. Shaju George, Specialist #Psychiatrist at the Dubai Community Health Centre, said that #doctors lead a very stressful lifestyle. Therefore, they are unaware or at times even ignorant of #mentalhealthissues. “#Suicide rates are the highest among #doctor groups- especially surgeons, #psychiatrists, and critical care experts. #Depression, #anxietydisorders, hypertension, diabetes, and heart attack are also common- among #physicians. However, seeking help is minimal,” said Dr. George. He added that awareness-building sessions among #doctors could help bridge the gap and reduce the taboo and #stigma associated with seeking help for #mentalhealth. #Physicians are often looked upon as superheroes who seldom need any help. We look up to #doctors to solve our woes, and often think they are strong and capable of anything. And this is just what makes it hard for #doctors to realise they need help and take time away for their #mental well-being. It is time to normalise #physicians seeking #mental help. But, how can this be achieved? Here are some ways healthcare providers could change the game for #physicians that need #mental help. #James Donaldson notes:Welcome to the “next chapter” of my life… being a voice and an advocate for #mentalhealthawarenessandsuicideprevention, especially pertaining to our younger generation of students and student-athletes.Getting men to speak up and reach out for help and assistance is one of my passions. Us men need to not suffer in silence or drown our sorrows in alcohol, hang out at bars and strip joints, or get involved with drug use.Having gone through a recent bout of #depression and #suicidalthoughts myself, I realize now, that I can make a huge difference in the lives of so many by sharing my story, and by sharing various resources I come across as I work in this space. #http://bit.ly/JamesMentalHealthArticleOrder your copy of James Donaldson's latest book,#CelebratingYourGiftofLife:From The Verge of Suicide to a Life of Purpose and Joy www.celebratingyourgiftoflife.com Encourage a safe space for expression As #doctors, it is natural to feel stressed or burnout. But, brushing aside the feeling and trying to keep it all together might not help always. Instead, it is best to speak up. Confide in a trusted colleague, friend, or a family member. Dr. George stressed that hospitals and clinics should initiate regular check-ins with their #physicians. Wellness programmes can be made a part of hospitals so that #doctors have immediate help on hand and do not have to shy away from seeking help. Evaluate workloads #Physicians tend to take on more work and feel burnt out. As an immediate measure, healthcare employers should weigh the workload given to their professionals and set achievable goals. The conversation here must not be whether a #physician can take #stress or not, rather it must redefine workloads, and ensure #doctors are not overburdened with responsibilities. “Hospitals should conduct regular surveys and screenings anonymously?to understand what #doctors go through. This would help them diagnose #stress level and also analyse the severity”, Dr. George added. Maintain confidentiality #Patients view #physicians as healers or icons of good health. So, while #mentalhealth may be a topic that should be openly discussed, this may not be an ideal solution for a #physician as it could affect their careers. Hospitals must ensure that utmost privacy is provided to protect those who seek help for #mentalhealth reasons. Read the full article
