Best resin for 3d printing miniature
3d - printed miniatures, a variation of resin types are available, and the best choice will depend on the application and desired final product qualities.
Due to their high resolution and ability to reproduce fine details, photopolymer resins are popular for 3D printing miniatures. They can be cured with UV light and come in a variety of colours.
Epoxy resins are well suited for miniatures that will be handled most often because of their strength, wear resistance, and chemical resistance.
In addition to being flexible and resilient, polyurethane resins are well suited for miniatures that will be subject to stress or movement.
The high strength, toughness, and durability of ABS-like resins make them ideal for printing functional

If you do get a figurine of Hana made, what outfit will you go with?
I think I'll go with her classic pink floral dress she wears like 80% of the time, because it's a classic, lol.
After doing some research though, I don't think it's possible to do a complete figurine of the choices characters, I could probably create a 3d half figure of a character or a bust of a character, because there isn't any images of the back of the choices sprites, so the back of the figurines' heads, back and back of their legs would be hidden by a flat piece of resin or fdm (the material the 3d printer uses). Technology is amazing, it can change a jpeg image into a 3d concept with the right software but if there's no image, than it can't make one up, and we have never seen the back of an LI before. But I still think it would be cool to have a bust or half figure of Hana and other hyperfixiations of mine lol. Since pb isn't going to do it, I guess I will lol.
#+$200 is a lot#But I still think with about 3 or more figurines#It would be cheaper than to commission#Someone on etsy#Plus I'm pretty sure I could make miniature#Replicas of skyrim weapons and objects too#Won't be happening anytime soon tho#I want to explore the software involved#In turning images into 3d models#And I don't have $200-300 right now lol#But regardless#I'm getting one#Someday#And I'm going to do my best#To make me a Hana thingie#Lol#Choices#Hana lee#3d printing

Pst! You know what time it is? New cosplay time! I decided to remake one of if not my favorite cosplays in my collection, Naven Nuknuk from Epithet Erased
This has been by far my most time consuming build (as well as expensive). this cosplay took a total of 279 hours over the span of roughly 8 months to make. That time doesn't include redoing sections or details that didn't make it into the final look.
And now for a detailed look at this whole outfit because dang, I put so many tiny details in.
Starting off with the earring and beads, I used a tequnic called lampwork to make them. The best way I can explain lampworking is like miniature glassblowing
Lampwork uses glass rods heated in a flame to create generally small pieces like beads or buttons. Lampworking can be incredibly detailed. While I'm still fairly beginner at all of this I was able to learn a tequnic called implosion to make the flowers look more 3 dimensional. I also used lampworking to make the buttons on the undershirt!
I did all the 3d modeling for parts like the glasses and the belt buckle. (Stealing pictures from my Instagram because the progress tracker i use corrupted my images)
While I don't usually focus on the 3d modeling in my builds it's a huge passion of mine. After making a model of the belt buckle I put my 3d print into casting clay. After carefully removing it I poured tin in to make the final belt buckle.
I also taught myself basic leather working and tooling to add some apple blossom inspired designs onto the belt and painted it.
Next thing I think I should talk about is the embroidery. I wanted to incorporate more details about naven into his outfit. After asking jello some questions we came to the conclusion that the embroidery should be lillies and carnations. Because of my constant insanity I hand embroidered everything. I also did some embroidery on the pants and used an embroidery floss that changes colors in the sun for fun.
Before I get any questions about materials I'll add in, the white shirt and embroidery are both silk. I struggle to embroider with cotton dye to the sound and feeling it makes, and I felt like being fancy so silk shirt too. The pants are a cotton twill (pretty much jean fabric without the indigo) and the green strips are silk. A perfect Segway into the tatting and knitting!
For those who don't know tatting is a traditional form of lace making found in many different places around the world. There are 2 main forms of tatting, needle tatting and shuttle tatting, I tend to use shuttle tatting due to how nice and portable it is. I thought tatting would be fitting to add to navens outfit due to it's other name, farmers lace.
And now for the big beast of this outfit, the knitting. Like with everything else in this outfit I dyed the yarn myself. It's 80 percent wool to 20 percent silk blend.
Huge thanks to jello for suggesting so many ideas, this outfit wouldn't be nearly as cool as it is otherwise.
Anyways I hope all y'all like the outfit! I had so much fun making this insanity

Skit's Mini Painting Journey Pt. Deux
It may surprise many of you that my first 40k minis weren't Adeptus Mechanicus, but lo and behold, I started with Nurgle Daemons.
I began with these three poxwalkers, initially the first of many, however now they're the only three of a kind. I wanted to do a noxious radioactive color scheme for them since I hadn't really seen anybody do anything similar to that while I was looking for inspiration. I largely stole from Risk of Rain 1 and 2 Acrid's color scheme and tried to replicate it best I could.
The results, I'd say, are a huge jump in quality from my previous miniature painting endeavors.
Then, there's the CUNK. The "Small Great Unclean One Who I Sized Down To Fit On My 3D Printer Because He Was Too Big To Print In One Go Because I Didn't Know How To Split Models" or just, Cunk as I nicknamed him, as SGUOWISDTFOM3DPBHWTBTPIOGBIDKHTSM was too hard to pronounce. I'm especially proud of this fella, and I'm sad to say that he's flawed. If it wasn't for the sizing issue, I'd say he's one of the few models from my older paint jobs I'd still run on a table today. The slime effects still stand up, and I love the colors of the mouth on the stomach. The horns and sword could use some TLC, but all things considered, I love this guy.
I love him so much in fact, I recently went back in and braved adding a couple red pupils to him, just so he'd have that menacing stare :3
Now surely, that's where it ends, right? I move on from my nurgle to admech and that's that, yeah?
Nope!
Feeling nostalgic for my nurgle roots, I broke back out the purple last year and started this fella. Cunk 2.0! I wanted a properly sized and more accurate GUO, while still bringing that funky feel that Cunk has going on. He's still a work in progress, but I've fallen in love with this guy. I'm planning on doing the goo effects again, but likely a little more conservatively, just to keep the effect looking classy.
I've also started working on a Death Guard army to fight my aquatic Admech army. The 'Depth Guard' as the community has called it!
I've got a couple standouts lined up, but most importantly we've got this amazing Sunken Despoiler Knight and a Mortarion who'll be getting the Sleepin' With The Fishes treatment :D
And here's Part 3!

ABOUT THE ARCANA FIGURES
Okay so I’m a nerd. I play a little D&D, I used to paint the little figures for the characters with my dad when I was a kid. Usually they’re cast in a mold, but thanks to 3D printing you can get some cool custom ones depending on the site you use.
So I’m going to show you guys what you can probably expect, from the worst quality to the best (for the smaller figures at least).
Here’s a little background:
Asra’s figure is about 1.26 inches for the smaller size (32mm) and 3 inches for the larger size (100mm). The first one is about in line with a standard Dungeons & Dragons figurine for a 6-foot tall character, which are about 0.98–1.10 inches (25–28mm).
Of course, the standard D&D miniatures (depending on who makes them) usually indicate their measurement up to the eyes.
Portia’s figure (the smaller size) is listed as 28.8mm. So she’s the closest in size to the miniatures. And yeah, you’re not going to get a lot of good detail at that size with 3D printing depending on the filament used and the team that is trimming/sanding the models. A couple examples I found here of what a 3D figure this size will look like:
Of course this really depends on the filament being used. This fiverr shop can print mini figures at a damn good quality with a very fine filament.
The size of this figure in particular is probably a little larger than Muriel’s smaller size figure.
This Reddit post I found—which for some reason will not let me paste the link no matter what I do—is showing what a 0.15 nozzle can do. I don’t know the exact size but I’m assuming it’s a standard 28mm.
As for the larger sizes—which run about 3-4 inches—the quality will probably be better. But again it entirely depends on the production team and things like the filament being used, nozzle size, sanding, trimming, etc.
So if you’re getting the smaller figures, there’s one hell of a range of what you could be getting and it depends entirely on how Dorian is producing them. And… we have no idea what we’re getting yet because we have the 3D models as examples, not the actual figures.

Crit Role Miniature Rollout: C3E50 Red Moon Rising
With Andrew Harshman
An analysis of the minis used on CR.
That red moon is indeed arisin’! Oooooey, look at that cinematic shot and cinematic lighting! At the end of the day, I think I have a slight preference for live shows, but the benefit of preproduction is these cinematic mini shots. The same thing probably could be achieve during a live recording with a handheld camera operator (Mega64 does it all the time). But regardless, these shots are awesome for helping establish the scene and giving us a closer peak at all the rad models. Thank you Critical Role production team, it is much appreciated!
Get in the robot Shinji, it’s time for Critical Role Miniature Rollout Campaign 3 Episode 50!
Mini Map Overview
This is a cuh-lassic C2/3 style map, featuring full 3D terrain elements atop a gaming mat. Specifically, a Mats by Mars desert theme base with Dwarven Forge Mountain rocks and blocks. Some wooden stairs and walkway components by Monster Fightclub, and scatter terrain from Pathfinder, HirstArts, and Mantic Games. One tent is from Mantic’s Terrain Crate series and the other is a Safari brand “Civil War Officer” tent famously featured in Campaign 2 Episode 3:
This particular brand of tent must be a popular in the world of Tal'dorei. What about this tent design makes it “Civil War” era? It is a rather tall tent, perhaps the high tent ceiling is made to accommodate an Abe Lincoln style top hat? “d4 score and seven years ago-” harharhar
The medium sized enemy cult member minis in this encounter are a bit mysterious to me. I suspect they are kitbashed models or resin printed. Possibly modular Frostgrave models? Difficult to say for sure. They are a tad generic, nothing super distinctive or identifiable. But conveniently, armed cultist models are a dime a dozen. If you need some for your own game, you’ll find there are ample options.
Best Mini of the Ep
This here Mighty Servant of Leuk-o model is mighty neat. Not only is it one of the most impressively large construct models. It is one of the only pilotable construct models! Go for it, hop in for a test drive!
Perhaps a sorta mundane detail for most folk, but I really like the decorative lines of gold patterning. Quality production value.
Worst Mini of the Ep
These large tents are pretty nice sculpts. But they are a downright hassle to paint. Them little frilly flaps along the top there, what a bother. Ain’t got time for those sorta tent trubs.
I’ve painted three of these tents for my own game, that’s over 100 flaps! Yeesh.
See ya next sesh!

I have treated myself to a bunch of recasts (bc I'm too poor for official models lol) and while researching how to paint them have come across this wonderful video.
youtube
Aside from the creator's amazing talent and wonderful minis, his words really spoke to me.
I think I get it now. After 40 years of history I think the thing that we all love belongs to us all in a way, beyond the bounds of law agreements, guidelines. Warhammer is a foundation of so many of the best developments in the miniature hobby. It's the reason why so many start their own company, sculpt their own miniatures, design their own games. Have reasons to meet new people and catch up with old friends. I think it belongs to the people that made it cool back then and the people that make it cool now. I think it belongs to the kid painting their first miniature and the people with 3D printed armies and the oldies playing defunked games and leakers and rumor mills. Grand tournament winners and those who complain about changes on forums. Warhammer has always been about expression - whatever that means to you. And so I just think, you know, make a ruckus. Make what you want to make. Because you can.
#this is the attitude I love in any hobby#and it applies to all the amazing creators here#warhammer 40k#warhammer fantasy#miniature

Bit of an odd question but would you ever consider doing these for commissions or selling the 3d printing patterns? I've got a friend whose cat passed away recently and hes been having a hard time grieving, but he loves ttrpgs and I think your miniatures would be more up his alley than some uncanny felt statue from etsy lol
Oh man I'm so sorry for your friend, losing a cat is absolutely heartbreaking. I hope he's doing okay ❤️
I am planning to both do custom figures for commissions and sell the files for printing! Previously I have stated that I wouldn't be selling the digital files, but after spending some time planning the best way to sell these I am coming around to the idea.
I'll have more updates on that in a few weeks! Best wishes to you and your friend!

ICON Ttrpg Miniature Models
I made minis for the players in my ICON game to be 3D printed soon! Check out the Lore for them under the cut.
Planning on having a mini-painting night together, I'll try and get some goods pics of them once they're done! (Play ICON)
Starting from left to right we have:
BROCK (Broker Xixo Fool): Silver-tongued (metaphorically, being a crab) and quick with both his words and his mouth, the xixo found his way to the outskirts of the world in search of a new grift and his coveted Snake Oil, something he believes to be an alchemical miracle drug.
CHAD (Brave Thrynn (?) Stormbender): Lover of surf, women, and men, Chad's connection to the sea has granted him a natural power over water - more about power than finesse he can strike an enemy with just his muscles (as in, his muscles can summon shards of ice).
MYRA (Seeker Thrynn Demon Slayer): Prostitute turned nun turned mighty warrior, a sword the size of one's body is just as useful as her strategic mind. A member of a secret religion, she worships and attempts to convert others to a psionic god - lord of dreams and vision.
SAMBOK (Mighty Trogg Colossus): Once a simple farmer, this life was not to be for the grandson of a conqueror. A wall of emotions and physical endurance alike, this unfortunate hero is at least able to channel the might of his grandfather's spirit, who haunts him at every turn.
SIR (Elder Trogg (?) Harvester): Millennia ago, he held impossible arcane secrets. A dark lord of his day, this was ended when a might warrior came to finally slay his fiend. However, the arcane masters rarely lie forever. Now he has returned, perhaps to forge a new path as he regains his strength.
SURGEO (Mender Automaton Seer): A medical marvel, Surgeo is a mechanical doctor adept at all things biological. After suffering at the hands of fate one too many times he became more metaphysical studies, aiming to help people as best he can all while the mysteries of his life tug at the back of his mind.

Animation Brief 01 - Week 1 - Mini Me
Above: Femto of the God Hand
The next step in our "Word Building" project was to design and create a "mini-me", essentially a kind of avatar of ourselves which will then be used as a basis for learning about lip-syncing in animation. I knew two things immediately: 1. I shouldn't make the it out of clay because it's a time-conscious medium and thus problematic for such a short project. And 2. I was definitely gonna make it out of clay anyway.
But first I had to decide how I wanted to represent myself in miniature and as you can undoubtedly see from the above image, it got weird. The important thing to understand here is that I hate self-portraits, and over the course of the last two projects I'd somehow already made 12! One clay sculpture, two 3D prints, nine ceramic casts, (and a partridge in a pear tree, etc.)
So needless to say I wanted to do something different. I guess I'd say I wanted to represent my reluctance to make a self-portrait, something that would represent me in a more abstract, less literal way. Plus I wanted something that would seem at home with the Tove Jansson inspired background art I was making for the project. The next step was gathering reference.
Above: The inspiration
I actually hadn't put too much thought into the mini-me 'til I showed up on Thursday morning. I'm showing this whole moodboard of visual reference now but while sketching out this idea all that information remained locked in my head.
The second pic of Gorillaz drummer Russel Hobbs, wearing a rain-poncho with a witch-like hood is forever burned into my head for some reason, I just love designs like that. Thus that pic was my mental jumping off point. I also just like Russel's character in general and his particular trait of hiding his face.
It was after sketching it out and trying to figure out how a hood like that might work in 3D that I turned my attention toward Raven from the 2003 Teen Titans series, another character I'm fond of for similar reasons. Glen Murakami's character sheets include a full turnaround and the show itself has plenty of reference for the hood at odd angles. I also love the way her face is cast in constant shadow.
The last bit of reference is the Tove Jansson inspiration. I love how she drew Snufkin as such a disheveled little weirdo. I guess at this stage it's obvious I relate to introverted characters. What I took in particular from Snufkin was Jansson's ability to capture so much character and personality using simple shape design. You really get the sense there is a soul behind those eyes.
Above: The design
Yeah... I really didn't experiment much with the design at all. If I'm being generous I could say I knew what I wanted, but really I just knew I was on a timer. You can see a couple of alternate ideas I had in the third sketch, but the whole witches hood plus obscured face combo was important to me.
Actually I started to get a little worried around this point. First that an all black face might look like, well, blackface. And second, that if left white, the pointed hood might have a KKK connotation. Sometimes with art, intention matters less than reception. A lot of online racists hide behind the idea of "plausible deniability", with work that acts as a dog whistle for those with similar ugly beliefs. I really don't want anyone to think there's a bigoted undertone to anything I make.
Thankfully that problems lies mostly in how I choose to colour the piece, so I can cross that bridge when I come to it. Honestly had it crossed my mind earlier I might have gone back to the drawing board entirely, but we're here now and I can only make the best of what I have.
I don't know, even having written all that, I'm still conflicted over it.
Above: I should've taken more progress pics...
I was basically just stalling on the design part, I knew the gist of what wanted but I didn't have particularly good plans on turning that design in a clay sculpture. I actually started to contemplate just going home that Thursday to put a model sheet together and then come in again Friday.
Obviously this was a bad idea for a lot of reasons and eventually Gemma convinced me to leave aside the planning and just start working with clay. Probably the best advice I could've gotten.
I rolled out a couple of slabs and after leaving them to firm up a bit, I used a template to roll one into a cylinder. This would serve as my base. Gemma helped me out a bit here too, suggesting how I create the shoulders by attaching a slab as support and draping another over it. After that it was mostly just scoring and slipping, creating the silhouette bit by bit with slabs. I wanted to have it mostly done as I knew it'd need to be fired on Friday. And on Friday the kiln is loaded at 12:30.
Above: 12:30 on a Friday
Anyway, I got it done as much as I could before leaving it down to be fired. I would probably have spent more time on it had I not been under pressure, but being honest I'm the kind of artist who spends 90% of their time trying to make things 1% better. I doubt it'd have made much of a difference.
What probably would've made a difference was having more of a plan before I started. It was really one of those things you have to do poorly once to learn how to do right, if that makes sense. There's certain changes that occurred en-route I'm happy with, like the kid of abstract, geometric look to the whole thing. But other changes I feel could be improved upon include the overall size and shape of the hood and especially the length of the head in general. The hood is tall and top heavy when it really should be the opposite.
Overall though I'm happy with how it turned out ... as long as it doesn't explode in the kiln.

❦ Thorne-Zest Household, Day Twenty-Nine ❦
Part of being a civil engineer was knowing that she was in a male dominated field. Not only the field, but with her co-workers as well. Same as many fields, she knew, but this field in particular could be sexist even at its best. Sometimes Eris would get delegated towards the more artsy aspect of projects, rather than the mathematical or engineering portions. It was a job she had to prove herself in. A job she had to work hard it.
Which meant long nights at the fabricator in the basement. She often spent time with Allan when their schedules aligned. While he was at his punching bag, she was at the fabricator trying to come up with bits and bobs, parts that could be utilized in some of the home inventions she tested in their home. Mostly, though, she used the fabricator to 3D print miniatures of some of the designs that her and the team came up with. A miniature to scale that she could test in a miniature city she had in the office.

FDM and Resin Printing: From Inception to Innovation
Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) and resin printing have come a long way since their early days. FDM was introduced in the 1980s by Scott Crump, co-founder of Stratasys, and initially used for rapid prototyping. Resin printing, or stereolithography (SLA), gained traction in the early 1990s, known for its precision and ability to create highly detailed models. Over the years, both technologies have expanded their applications, transforming from niche tools into powerful resources for industries worldwide. Today, Professional FDM and resin printing are at the forefront of manufacturing, design, and even art. Their capabilities continue to advance, allowing users to create complex geometries and customized parts with ease. These technologies, which were once used mainly by engineers and designers, have become accessible to hobbyists, artists, and businesses alike.
Why FDM and Resin Printing Are Overlooked Innovations
Despite their revolutionary impact, FDM and resin printing are often underappreciated as key innovations. Part of the reason for this is their widespread use in industries like manufacturing and prototyping, where their groundbreaking potential can sometimes be overlooked. However, the rapid advancements in material quality, speed, and precision have made these technologies indispensable. Industry reports confirm that the global 3D printing market, including professional FDM and resin printing, is expected to reach over $50 billion by 2029, underlining their growing importance in modern industries.
Who Craves FDM and Resin Printing?
The demand for FDM and resin printing spans a wide range of sectors. Engineers and designers use FDM printing for cost-effective prototyping, while industries like aerospace and automotive rely on it for durable, customized parts. On the other hand, resin printing attracts customers who require fine detail, such as those in healthcare, dentistry, and high-end jewelry design. These customers appreciate the precision and smooth finishes resin printing provides, often using it to create complex models or small, intricate components. In addition to professionals, hobbyists and artists are drawn to resin printing for its ability to produce high-quality, detailed objects. Whether it’s creating miniatures or detailed sculptures, resin printing allows for a level of craftsmanship that appeals to creators across various fields.
How Best FDM 3D Printing Services Work
The process of FDM 3D printing begins with the creation of a 3D model using CAD software. This model is sliced into thin layers by the printing software, then the FDM printer melts and extrudes a thermoplastic filament, depositing it layer by layer. The most commonly used materials include PLA, ABS, and nylon, each chosen for its unique properties. After printing, the item may require post-processing, such as cleaning or sanding, depending on the complexity of the design. In contrast, resin printing uses a liquid resin that is hardened by ultraviolet (UV) light in a layer-by-layer fashion. This method allows for greater detail and smoother finishes, making it ideal for industries requiring high levels of accuracy, like dental applications and jewelry design. Print Your Vision, Shape the Future! Whether you need a quick prototype or a detailed, high-quality model, professional FDM and resin printing provide solutions that meet the demands of diverse industries. Together, these two printing methods continue to push the boundaries of innovation, helping businesses and creatives turn their ideas into reality. Looking for affordable, high-quality 3D printing services? At Jim’s 3D Print Shop, your trusted Indiana 3D print shop, we offer professional FDM and resin printing at prices you’ll love. Let’s create something amazing together! For more information, please contact: [email protected]

Yesterday was a long day, I took over 10.000 steps, had a lot of conversations and met great people. I also got a whole lot of goodies ranging from a 3D printed phone cleaner to filament samples to a fully printed miniature, a cat phone holder and a metal 3D printed articulated dragon.
I was completely spent but the day was amazing. Best of all, I got to spend quality time with my mum and she also got a lot of cool stuff out of it.

Crit Role Miniature Rollout: C3E48 An Exit Most Fraught (no minis episode)
With Andrew Harshman
An archive and analysis of the minis used on CR.
Hello party people! Apologies for the unannounced hiatus.
I have been neglecting my mini-duties. Wargaming has been getting more of my attention as of late and frankly, the party split in recent CR episodes really took me out of it. Personally, the format/plot shift did not work for me. But anyway-
I’ll be using a modified format for a bit. Skipping the full archive and jumping straight to my picks for best and worst mini of the episode for sessions with combat and maps.
Speaking of maps, got this question submission quite awhile back.
Anonymous asked:
Hello! Would you happen to know what size are the mats that Matt uses?
Interesting question! Thanks for your question. So the map size of course varies from episode to episode and changes depending on whether they are using a literal battle mat flat map as the base of the layout or if they are using a fully 3D modular Dwarven Forge map. That being said, a great many of the Critical Role combat maps are 24 inches by 24 inches as seen in the above examples.
24x24 is the standard starter size of the gaming mats printed by the good folks at Mats by Mars, so we end up seeing quite a lot of them on CR. And they are always a most welcome sight indeed. Their mats are fantastic.
Of course Mats by Mars also does large scale custom work, such as the GLORIOUS custom Cognouza Mat of Campaign 2:
Be seein’ yall soon. See ya next sesh!
