I know we all want redeemed Ben Solo to look and dress like his father at some point. But- ok, hear me out: There hAs to be sOme Lando spirit in there, SOMEWHERE. Like, come on, the CAPE? Are you telling me that Ben Solo, son of Leia Organa, grandson of fashion Queen Amidala, former Jedi padawan and Supreme Fashion Leader himself wouldn't fancy a cape at all? I don't believe u.
Lemme explain.
Tumblr media
high waisted Lando pants but put inside the boots.
Shorter cape. Kinda like Lando's in Solo.
High belt, cause it looks good on him and he knows it.
Dark grey. Mid grey. With a bit of off white. (I believe this is self explanatory.)
Later in life, as he grows older, maybe he will start adding some colour to his clothes.
I'm still not decided on my definitive headcanon. The one on the right is still very close to Luke in RotJ despite the grey and higher belt, but I kinda like it? Just cause it looks more elegant. I mean, sure, you could give him a blaster (I... probably will, at some point), depending on where the stories go and how you write him as Ben. I gave him two lightsabers, because, well- I will explain that when my fanfiction is finished. Or maybe I'll abandon the idea till then. :') (Yes, yes they would be white.) Gotta see if it serves the story well or if it's just my old love for young Ahsoka's yellow shoto lightsaber blinding me.
Jeez, there are so many directions you could take this character. Jedi, pilot, smuggler, gambler, senator... there's no end to this. I've seen so much Jedi Ben Solo fanart and I love all of them. I love the robes so much that I went and made some shape exploration with them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the thing is I'm not really feeling it. If I were to take the story into a new direction, no Jedi, no Sith, just Force sensitives, a new take on this whole idea, expanding on what Rian Johnson gave us - which, I am - I would probably go away from the traditional Jedi designs. Sure, it all also kinda depends on how you colour it, I guess...
*sighs* there could have been so much to explore and discover in IX. But, eh, let's not turn this into another tros rant.

Hey!! I really loved the idea of poll and I got an idea :) what about the best lightsaber in sw??
Consider this my redemption for my “Best Star Wars Ship 🚀” poll. This is no rushed joke poll! This is a hard-worked on, week-long… joke poll.

Can I just talk about Leia’s lightsaber? For probably a long time..
First, I want to say aesthetically she’s gorgeous. She’s so unique. She’s so sleek. She looks like a Jedi masterpiece.
But goddamn does she suck to use.
Tumblr media
So to start from the top, we see this beautiful legacy through Leia’s saber. We have the thin neck and rings calling back to Obi-Wan/Luke’s second saber and the vertical grips calling back to Anakin/Luke/the “Skywalker saber”. And we’re told it’s made of silver and copper with mother of pearl?! which just screams Padmé and Breha to me. I love how certain details of a character’s lineage pass through their sabers. Just beautiful.
And obviously because I love Leia and her lightsaber is beautiful I bought one of these but specifically to use, not to display. And oh boy. The amount of blood I have spilled on this saber is terrible, and no I don’t mean hurting someone else. This is my own literal actual blood from getting sliced and diced by this hilt.
Because those vertical grips are the worst ever idea to put on a handheld weapon. The reason they worked on Anakin’s is because they’re straight and thick and chunky and, most importantly, blunt. The whole feminizing sleek-ifying thing they did with Leia’s - while stunning - renders it useless because the grip is curved and those edges and corners are all hard and sharp. One slip, and it will slice your hand. Not to mention just all over make it uncomfortable to use.
And this is one of those beautifully deep things Star Wars has just stumbled into creating because I don’t think it was ever intended or thought about much more than making a pretty prop.
But it is absolutely poetic that Leia’s lightsaber, representing her journey into the Force, is genuinely something that causes her pain despite bringing her closer to her family. Her entire history with the Force is written into this one tool, which she built with her own hands, and yet wielding this tool is only going to harm her and lead her down a painful and treacherous path that no amount of skill or care can save her from. And for her then to walk away from this because it is too difficult to bear or because her family was telling her that her role is elsewhere in a field that she loves that loves her back is just the most perfectly illustrated piece of Leia’s story.
In short, I absolutely hate this lightsaber, but because of that, I absolutely love the story it tells.

Hot Take/Controversial Opinion on the star wars sequel choreography
It should suck. Now let me explain.
Sword fighting is indeed an art form. And it was smooth, complicated, and beautiful...when there were teachers to pass on different techniques to the next generations. But, during the new republic era, there were no teachers that knew the old forms. Luke and his students were starting from scratch. Sure there might have been notes and records, but that's not the same as having an instructor adjust your footing or directly show you the intricacies of a specific swing and the pros and cons of the various lightsaber fighting forms.
If all artists got killed off and all we had to go on were notes, and written instructions, our art would suck at first too.
Ben and Rey's fight choreography is the equivalent of a couple of people grabbing some paint brushes and trying to recreate the Mona Lisa or The Starry Night but having no clue what techniques were used or guided instruction. It makes sense it looks sloppy and unrefined. And it also adds a sense of relatability for kids who grab their lightsabers and go outside and play without having a good idea of what they are doing. Because those kids often want to look like Obi-wan and Anakin, but don't have the instruction or even the fine motor skills yet, so they also have unpolished choreography. Does this mean they won't grow up and have those moves look more polished and skilled? No, because they will have gotten practice and/or instruction. But, there was no instruction for the new Jedi Order.
Also, I would like to add that the choreography in the original trilogy wasn't as impressive either. Again, this makes sense canonically, because Obi-wan and Yoda didn't get to teach Luke the finer parts of sword fighting before they died and they are the only ones who would remember it at this point, aside from Anakin/Vader, who had to rework his fighting style to make up for the limitations caused by his suit.
The lightsaber fights in the sequels are sloppy and I'm glad about it.
Thank you for coming to my tedtalk.

Why Rey's Story Should Have Been Similar to Anakin's (WITH A TWIST 😉 )
Ok! Bear with me, I know this can be a touchy subject but I promise you it's not the path you think this will go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anakin Skywalker was the chosen one who was destined to bring balance to the force. I'm not sure why he had to become Darth Vader to achieve this, but that may be a topic for another time. However, there is no doubt that he was destined to fall into darkness, as this was confirmed back in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, episode Ghost of Mortis (3x17), where Anakin was shown a vision from The Son about his future. However, Anakin has his memories wiped out by his father so the events would play out. Why do I bring this Up?
Tumblr media
Picture Rey's story going this route: PALPATINE IS DEAD. However, he was working on a clone son that would surpass his apprentice Darth Vader. The Clone is a failure and is set free after the events of Return of the Jedi. At some point, the clone meets a woman and they have a daughter named Rey. However, her parents abandoned her on a desert planet because they were terrified of her powers and the darkness that resides within her. However, she survives, joins the resistance, and fights the evil in the galaxy. However, her greatest adversary finds out her true lineage, hoping she will join his side. However, there's a twist: REY KNEW.
Tumblr media
She knew her parents left her behind because they feared her. She knew the true origin of her lineage because she overheard her parents talking about it (or another source). She knew what would happen if she allowed her negative emotions to get to her while surviving on Jakku. She knew but she fought against it anyway.
Tumblr media
I believe this would have been a compelling story for the sequel trilogy to adopt. The protagonist fights against the destiny that everyone around her expects her to become. She's pulled in so many directions: Her friends fear her, her enemies push her, and the entire galaxy wants her dead. Yet, she chooses hope. JJ Abrams could have also sneaked in a few hints about Rey's dark potential until the big twist. Some examples could be:
Losing control (maybe like a sonic scream)
Tumblr media
Physical deformation (like The Son)
Tumblr media
or classic Sith eyes (maybe she keeps them hidden under her own mask)
Tumblr media
I know this felt more like a rewrite than an analysis but I'm sure we've all come up with thousands of ways a story could have gone.

Major props to Luke Skywalker. If I spent over twenty years being compared to my father, only to find out he was evil, then I spent over ten years training my nephew to try to keep him from becoming evil, only to fuck up once and for him to turn evil anyway, I would have been pissed.
Like, how come all the other Skywalker men get to be evil, huh? Why does Luke gotta be the sane one? Luke is standing between his father who killed a temple of younglings because he thought it would help save his wife and his nephew who destroyed a temple with Force lightning, and you’re telling me his only reaction was to exile himself?
Luke spends his whole childhood on Tatooine on a farm with helicopter parent Owen, then he spends his adulthood in the Rebellion and a Jedi, then he spends more of his adulthood as a Jedi, then he spends the last years of his life in exile, like Luke didn’t get to go apeshit even ONCE. Like sure, he kills a few million Imperials or whatever, but they didn’t even let him move a black hole or have godlike strength reminiscent of his father, no that’s just for his nephew, if I was Luke, I would not have been able to be chill.
Is Luke’s godlike ability to stay calm? Is that all he gets? Shouldered with responsibilities and failures and the weight of the entire galaxy on his shoulders, while his dad and nephew got to be evil and then died immediately after becoming good again? All Luke gets out of his life is depression and PTSD and guilt. He doesn’t even get to kill a Sith, dude. Like, come on. How unfair!
His character is so depressing! He spends his whole life trying to be like his father, but Ben Solo gets to be more like Anakin than Luke does? Terrible, awful, I hate it here. Let Luke tear some shit apart with his bare hands, just this once. Like, Jesus, even the Jedi in the Old Republic wouldn’t expect a man to be able to go through this much without some difficulty, how come Luke has to suffer? What has he ever done?
Luke spends his whole childhood and adolescence restrained to Tatooine, his time in the Rebellion retrained to the Rebels, and his adulthood restrained to the outdated view of the Jedi of old, and honestly? If I had to go through all that, on top of being the only man in my bloodline who doesn’t get to be batshit insane? I would’ve been a bit weird on Ahch-To too.
