Being tall and a wallflower who just wants to blend in is not easy. There’s just something really noticeable about being built like slenderman and towering over the majority of everyone around me

Being Tall

I’ve been tall for a long time, since middle school. I was probably one of the tallest girls in my high school, but when I went to college I was shocked! There are a lot of tall Americans in the Midwest! I felt more average height there. Then I came to Japan, where, of course, I’m kind of giant. From time to time I do see Japanese women who are taller than I am, and it can be quite a surprise. I always wonder what they think when they realize they are even taller than a tall foreigner, or whether they even think about it.
Actually, I wonder a lot about what other people think. I wonder what people were thinking when they chose to buy a certain unflattering clothing item. I wonder what people are thinking when they are eating the same bread as I am; do they enjoy it as much as I do? I wonder what highway bus drivers think about during their hours on the road; how much do they daydream?
My daughter daydreams and wonders about other people a lot too. “Mommy, where are they going? Why does she look sad?” She has also started comparing herself to others and wondering, “Can other kids draw as well as I can? Am I better at making up stories than you?” Of course, she also has noticed how tall she is. She asks, “Am I going to be taller than you?” I hope so. Then I can ask her how she feels about being taller than a tall foreigner.

So Twitch what's the favorite part about being tall?
Twitch: Oh, being tall is great! I can hug Hashtag and Nightshade so much easier! And I can see so much without even having to fly! I can reciprocate Jawbreaker’s bear hugs without being crushed! My legs are longer so I can walk farther with less steps. I can reach things high up easier. It’s amazing!
Twitch: But I think my real favorite, is how easy it is to pick Thrash up, and soar up really high while I’m holding him, and he can have a chance to see everything I do, when I fly.
Twitch: It’s really nice. We can watch the sunset from high up without all the obstructions together. Same for people watching, and star gazing.
Twitch: My favorite part of being big, is getting to help Thrash experience what I can.

Downside to being tall nobody warned me about: every time I have to reach across a "waist high" counter I inexplicably place my balls right up on there

this is so delightful 🥰
I am about 5'10" or 5'11" and I consider myself average height, though I might actually be on the taller side of average. I've never thought about this much since all members of my family and most of my extended family are around my height; some shorter, some taller.
I moved in with a woman who is 5'5" and, as we were deciding where things should go in the kitchen, I kept asking: Why do you keep this here? Referring to a certain cabinet or shelf. And she'd say: So I can reach it. And I'd go: ...oooooohhhhhh. We ended up basically splitting the cabinets so that her stuff was on the bottom shelves and mine were on the top instead of organizing by category.
In the middle of this process, she looked at me and said: What's it like to be tall? I had no good answer to it because I'd never thought about it before. I'm obviously aware there are people shorter than me, I'd just never put any thought into what it might mean for their daily lives vs. mine.
I am generally able to reach things on high shelves without a stepstool, I can usually change a lightbulb without having to bust out a chair to stand on unless I live in a place with high ceilings, I can see the top of most things. None of that ever felt like a privilege to me (and, of course, this privilege is minor in the grand scheme of things). Now I try to be more aware of it. I don't always succeed. I keep trying!

Author still awaiting elusive growth spurt
I’ve been waiting. For a long time. I used to think it was a long wait for Christmas . . . at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. But this? THIS? This is like waiting for the mail in hell for a package that’s continually taken to the wrong address. And without enough postage. And when it does finally arrive, I’m three cents short of the postage due, so back it goes. What is THIS exactly? Let me…

My whole family is short. Somehow this didn't clue me in as a kid that I would be short too. I thought of growing tall as something I could just... do. If I put my heart into the work.
When I was about 14 I was at the doctor's office and since I was old enough they brought me in to the ongoing "concern" about my height. I was shorter than everyone in my grade. "But I don't think it's a sign of anything wrong." The doctor explained. You should get to be about five foot tall no problem.
I. Burst. Into. Tears.
I wanted to be Six foot Six. At LEAST.
The doctor looked bemused and it made me angry, but still crying "How tall did you want to be."
"aaaa bout six feet ..." I said (SEVEN! I thought.)
The doctor and my mom *laughed* at me.
I mean... I get it now. I was standing there just a little over four foot tall. Wanting to grow two feet more.
"Five foot is great for a girl!"
"I'm five foot tall" huffed my mom.
I just glared and didn't talk to her for the whole ride home. I started doing research. I was horrified that I simply couldn't grow as tall as I wanted. I am, today five foot tall. I like it a lot now. There are advantages to being short. But that's another story.
I do wonder what I would have done in life if I just kept growing by force of will. Towering over everyone in the subway! Dunking without jumping! Never having pants to hem!
It could have been a lot of fun. To be a giant.
Random question, but I'm curious
For my two cents, I'd like to be shorter. Just a little guy.

Sea Cryptic! Danny AU- Pt.3
[Pt.1] [Pt.2] [Pt.4] [Pt.5] [Pt.6] [Pt.7] [Pt.8] [Pt.9] [Pt.10]
“Aquaman.” Batman swept into the room, beelining straight for the suddenly apprehensive Atlantean king.
“Batman. What can I do for you?”
“Phantom. Does he pay taxes?”
“Pardon?”
Batman makes a low noise that had Aquaman’s danger senses buzzing.
“Does Phantom have to pay taxes. Towards Atlantis.”
“No…? Why?”
“He wanted money, in exchange for… information, of a delicate sort,” Batman said, diplomatically avoiding the topic of Phantom bargaining for the identities of corpses in exchange for a measly $100 dollars per identity. Like a flea market dealer, that one was.
“You encountered Phantom again?” Aquaman perked up.
“Yes. Gotham’s bay is… polluted.” Batman paused. “With victims. Of murder.”
The entire area quieted as heads turned towards the Dark Knight.
“Yes, I am… distantly aware of Gotham’s waters.” By that, Aquaman gets green around the gills whenever he turns his awareness in that direction. There’s a reason he doesn’t enter Gotham, and the Dark Knight’s ban is only half of that reason. “Ah, but you’re correct. For what purpose would Phantom need mortal currency?”
“Hn.”
“Maybe he needs some stuff?” Flash zipped to a stop next to Batman, feet tapping as he dug into the pile of snacks cradled in his arms. “Us mortals are always coming up with new things, maybe he wants to try some games or something?”
Batman tilted his head down, seriously considering Flash’s suggestion. “It’s plausible.”
“Barry, Barry, Barry. He’s old as hell, right? He probably wants to try the new booze!”
“Hal, my man!” Flash fist bumped Green Lantern, who came up. “You’re back! What happened to John?”
“Dunno. He got called somewhere that way,” Green Lantern waved a vague hand towards the left. “Had to deal with a politician or something from that area.” He shrugged, swinging an arm over Barry’s shoulders to put him in a headlock and stealing a chip.
“Huh. Anyways, would our mortal alcohol even work on a demi-god or something?”
“We should ask!” Hal turned towards Batman. “You should ask if he wants to go for a drink, spooky!”
“He’s a child.”
“He’s been around for more than a millennia, Bats.”
“Informational gathering, right, Hal?” Flashgot out of the headlock, quickly munching on his snacks to stop Green Lantern from stealing them.
“Totally. Yup.”
“…Fine.”
“Wait, are we just gonna ignore that Gotham’s waters are full of bodies?”
“Yes.”
——
“What?” Danny asked, mind half on the bags he’s dragging out of the water and the other half on the essay he has to submit in about four hours.
“Green Lantern wanted to invite you out for a drink.”
Danny turned to the stoic Gotham knight, who had his wrist computer out to log the bodies’ info the moment Danny gave him the information. Some of them even told Danny who murdered them, so Batman could start building cases with solid leads.
Danny’s only twenty. He’s not legal yet but he doesn’t want to give any clues to who he is. How is he supposed to…
Ah!
“Can’t.” Danny shrugged. “I’m not legal. I died when I was fourteen so…” Danny trailed off, speechless at the drowned puppy face Batman was giving him. What the fuck.
“Anyways, fork over my payment.”
Batman wordlessly hands him a wad of hundreds.
“What do you need cash for?” Batman suddenly asked.
“Huh? Isn’t it obvious?” Danny tucked it in. “Material things, obviously. I need a blanket,” because holy shit, Gotham is damn cold this time of year. “Anyways, see you same time next week, litterer.”
“I don’t litter.”
“Tell that to the batarangs I found under the water,” Danny grumbled. “But I’ll stop calling you that if you get a signature from Poison Ivy. I have a friend who loves her.”
“An alive friend?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know, weatherboy?”
Danny snickered and disappeared. He’s gotta cram that essay.
——
“There’s a possibility Phantom might be homeless.”
“Batman, I mean this in the nicest way, but for the love of Atlantis, please stop giving me headaches. It’s time like these I wish I stayed a lighthouse keeper.”

Regulus was that one short kid who would not hesitate to climb the fucking shelves, because he would rather do that then ask for help
James: Reg.. what are you doing up there?
Regulus: *Clinging on for dear life while also trying to grab a book* Nothing.
James: Okay.. *grabs book* You know I was actually looking for this. I think I’ll take it for myself-
Regulus: *Still hanging on* You bastard-
