HOKAY. i will use this ask to talk a little about the reverse stans' backstories because i have Some Ideas. as always full answer under cut bc its got images and rambles galore

in my mind, the gleeful family association with magic & the supernatural starts with caryn's phone psychic business, and ford having "The Gift" while stan ABSOLUTELY doesnt. but in real terms that means just having a really strong intuition and being able to guess well. (at least thats what filbrick and caryn thing. ford genuinely thinks he has some semblance of psychic ability and so does his mom, but they just havent properly honed it yet) and so ford is the preferred child for that, instead of his smarts really. ford is also obsessed with the supernatural still, but it's more focused on the magical aspect.

ford and stan's relationship ends up being close because stan is the only one who believes ford about magic. i mean there are other reasons but thats very important to ford

ford, seeing how stan has always had his back by believing what he says about magic, offers to try and "tutor" stan into having The Gift. drilling him for hours by holding up cards and making him guess, stuff like that. but yknow, since both of them are kinda clamoring to inherit their mom's business, stan kinda ends up relying on ford for everything, and theyre taking on almost a mentor-student relationship when theyre Literally Brothers.

instead of west coast tech, the scholarship ford is being offered is for a famous performing arts school after his teachers saw him take the leads in school plays year after year. they tell him a scout will be at their school's talent show, and ford decides he's going to put on a stage magic show (with stan as his assistant). this time, not only is stan worried about ford leaving, but also, since they've both been working towards a really similar thing (performing for a crowd), he's really worried he'll never get a chance to show off that HE has skill, too! ford brushes him off about this saying that he'll put a good word in for stan when he's at performing arts school and stan is like "ok." and agrees to be his assistant.

in the middle of ford's show, he goes rogue, trying to show the scouts that he can be just as skilled as ford is, and completely screws up the trick he ends up performing. ford doesnt get that internship, ford is furious, so is filbrick, stan gets kicked out, you know the rest.

ford goes to backupsmore and double-majors in both theatre and whatever he majors in in the show. he plans to move to gravity falls because of its high ratings of weirdness. after stan got kicked out, instead of becoming a traveling salesman, he becomes a street magician who doubles as a pickpocket. stealing peoples' watches and stuff. he runs around all over the place

ford digs up four mystic amulets once he gets to gravity falls and stays there for a while, and is like "oh man i can USE these". so how i imagine the amulets to work is that they're kinda like, a conduit through which you can learn legit magic? like casting spells and stuff. but he probably only needs one so he keeps the other three in his house (and that's how the kids eventually find the others)

and of course thats how he starts up the tent of telepathy!

but he wants more. he wants to make the world pay for ever calling him a six fingered freak. and he wants to prove to the world that his magic IS real. he can't just lie sequestered in gravity falls forever. so he goes hunting for more answers about gravity falls' weirdness, and how he might be able to get more POWER to make a show so good the entire world will see... and that's how he summons will cipher! will tells him about the portal, and how itll open up a dimension of weirdness into his own, and ford accepts on those terms, looking out just for himself. then he asks fidds to come help with the portal, fidds walks out on him, he shackles will to him in a deal, but they both realize they don't have the manpower to run the portal. reluctantly, ford calls stan up, telling him to come and that it's important.

...but of course that doesnt go well. stan initiates a physical fight and ford ends up getting sucked into the portal. will is left alone with stan, who tells him he can buzz off because HE certainly doesnt want him around. stan works for the next 30 years to get ford back because he wants ford to finally be the one who has to suck up to HIM and owe HIM something.

at some point, mason and mabel's parents become unable to take care of them and give them to stan. he reluctantly takes them in, but soon after, not only do they find the amulets but also journal 2, and they end up reactivating ford's deal with will, getting passed down to the "next of kin" after stan rejected it. AND THATS SORTA WHERE THE SHOW STARTS. THUMBS UP.

- god they really make donal run and sing and he does it full body

- wow melanie really gives her all the entire time shes on stage the silent moments she has with eurydice especially after hey little songbird is like oh my god

- also i wanted the lights to swing over my head so so bad

-the red carnation that appears doesn't have leaves or a stem unlike the broadway version that ive seen its just petals that appear in orpheus' and hades' hands

-when persephone leaves for up top in act 1 zachary hades is like slouched iirc -- i think zachary plays up the business man aspect of hades and also hades' underlying sadness whereas i think other hadeses have more anger within them with some sadness popping up periodically

(i use the word "partner" a lot here but just know i am not referring to strictly romantic relationships lol)

OHHH GOD. relationship writing advice HMM HMMMMM. it really is very complex bc there are SO many different types of relationships that can be written about ghfdgjh so advice definitely varies!!! i think something helpful that i've learned is that unless you are purposefully examining power dynamics it always helps to view both sides as fully realised characters. very very rarely do you want to have a character who is solely there to agree with their second half and have no personality or history outside of this. i see this happen a LOT with romantic pairings but it's also an important note for platonic pairings as well!! ESPECIALLY if the main focus of the story is on this specific pairing-- it shouldnt feel like one person is a human being while the other is a cardboard cutout whose only purpose is to be there for their partner. again there ARE a few exceptions to this and how it is portrayed but its the main rule i like to stick to!! :]

if i feel like ive written a character who is solely there for their partner something immediate i go to is giving both characters something that separates them!! most of the time this includes fleshing out a backstory thats different from their partner, that might influence the way they see things within the narrative. give them a different hobby, maybe a different friend group! give them a different perspective on the events that are unfolding, a different way of coping that might not be beneficial to their partner!! and remember that it is OKAY for them to not agree on everything!!!! do not be frightened into thinking you need every single relationship in your story to be perfect and unproblematic and completely agreeable, especially for longer narratives that call for conflict

OH AND IN REGARDS TO FANFICTION... piece of advice i try to follow is donttttt try to mold characters into entirely different people just so they can stay happy and agreeable with their partner lol. if theres tension theres tension!! if theyre petty then theyre petty!!!!! even if there isnt conflict and youre writing fluff, you dont have to erase their personalities just to fit them together as a happy couple! sometimes the challenge in writing comes from finding what happiness means for that specific character/pairing, and that may be very different from the typical idea of romance/happiness!!

AND NOW ON TO MAKOTO AND MIU first of all. i am so sorry for making you read paragraphs upon paragraphs of me just rambling nonsense at you GHFDKGSH BUT I APPRECIATE IT!!! and second of all this technicallllyyyy is advice i guess but its WAY more specific now!!! lol

anyways when it comes to writing their relationship most of their dynamic is based off of their differences! opddmh miu is brash and loud, and even though she is trying more and more to filter what she says she still speaks before she thinks and grows restless very easily. opddmh makoto on the other hand cant afford to be brash and loud and thinks quite a lot before he says anything, and is lot visibly calmer. so its fun examining how their differences are able to influence the other throughout the fic!!!! miu NEEDED that calming influence considering the state she was in when makoto found her, i quite frankly have no idea where the hell she would be now if makoto hadnt been so patient and understanding ghfdksghkf. makoto on the other hand is a man chained down by responsibility, so much so that his life has become extremely dull in his eyes just because of how repetitive it has started to become. miu is a serious change to this and offers him some kind of purpose while also reminding him of not only how SCARED he was as a teenager first exiting the simulator but also how unrestrained he had been before the years went by. theres a balance there!!!

but at the same time, there ARE some similarities. theyre both a bit paranoid, and even if miu is more willing to be vocal about her distaste theyre both scared of danganronpa as a company. they also both strive for some kind of peace, even if they have different versions of it-- makoto wishes to be unburdened by the weight of responsibility and his Ultimate Hope persona while miu wishes for stability in her relationships with others, even if she just isnt the best at it. its why i like writing small moments such as the two of them just sitting in the car and chatting or the most recent moment where theyre not talking at all but are still comfortable in each others company-- they dont explicitly tell the other that theyre super happy and at peace but they both subconsciously understand :)

-whats gonna happen with tassia?? i think that a redemption arc is a possibility, although i kind of think it would be more interesting if they went full villain with her, let her faith in systems and institutions, and her blind rage lead her to do more and more challenging things to her moral compass while on the path to destroy the circulum, no matter the collateral damge. not to mention how messy the chain of command could get with how hira claims theres templars in tevinter already being corrupted by the crimson knight!! but i think its far more likely that theyll go down the route of "enemy of my enemy is my ally" having her eventually team up with team miriam to destroy the circulum. i guess its not out of the question that we get a little bit of the villain arc > redemption??

-meredith is "alive". we've seen something similar to this happen with red lyrium before. but damn, lemme tell you her voice actor is so damn impactful. like, i had to google merediths name bc i couldnt remember it, but i recognized that voice immediately conjured an image meredith in my head as she spoke. thats some damn good acting.

oh my god fmo!aemond would be the type of person to have a madonna whore complex wouldn't he 😭 now im even more excited for the next part and to find out if the way in which he considered alys had changed (before daemyra entered the picture) when he fell in love with her or when she became pregnant. like i think he would still see reader and alys being stationed on two different levels except they Would have something in common now.... alys' side of things is sooo interesting to think about too (especially since we haven't officially met her yet and if it really turns out she had been planted by daemyra). unlike reader, she's allowed to cross that line of using her charms to get what she wants in a more direct way and probably does find some pleasure in it (or rather has come to) but surely not without it causing her some serious damage due to being a bastard servant and it maybe being her only her means to survive in the world. also it adds another layer to what you've said before about both her and reader fixating on each other and craving what the other has and all of it has me wanting to Scream because theyre all so fucked up and i love themmmm. It definitely would have been interesting to see if he changed with her apparently being pregnant. Would it have been “easier” because alys would not be around the reader is. Or bc he thinks the child was made out of love. Would his brain get fucked up again bc alys is now a mother, and he can’t wrap his head around a mother engaging in things they do. Like you said, would they be on the same level now as caregivers of his children… fulfilling a duty now.

I think it’s why hearing that news literally sends reader into labor. If she isn’t making her husband happy, if he isn’t having sex with her… and now he is having children with other women. In her mind, she’s thinking what even is my purpose here.

The differences similarities between reader and alys live rent free in my head too. I kind of see them as Alicent and Rhaenyra in the sense that it is possible for them to be victims and perpetrators in a patriarchal society… bc most women (myself included) are both at times.

Alys clearly is a victim in how she’s been treated as a bastard and then of course a woman. Sort of similar to Rhaenyra, I see her maybe making not great decisions as a mean to survival. It is not her (or Rhaenyra’s) job to uplift other women (though ryra obviously has more power to do that) especially when she is just trying to survive…. but in they also may feel the need to step on some toes to achieve semblances of power/freedom. She thinks of reader and sees someone who has live a very privileged life, especially compared to her, and she’s not wrong. But with that privilege comes a certain level of rigidness that alys probably wouldn’t like.

Just like reader can be a victim in her marriage, and basically being degraded by her mother growing up. Told that her wants and needs are secondary. She ~knows~ her role and place. But she can be a perpetrator with internalizing that and project that onto other women. She probably thought some very… not nice things when she found out the woman Aemond cheating with was an older bastard woman. Fmo is a story about cheating, and the targs being messy. But also reader reevaluating ideas of patriarchy (even if she doesn’t have that word in her head as a medieval woman).

Alys and reader are sort of everything each other want to be but also nothing they want to be… it’s interesting and fucked up
