The Dragon has Three Heads

After their High King was crowned, he was taken in by the Ancients. He was a child with continuously growing power forced to bear the weight of the Infinite Realms and in need of guidance, who better to advise him than the almighty Ancients themselves?

At first, none could decide on who would take their young king in. Not because he was unwanted, but because he was. The Ancients nearly sent the Realms to war with their myriad of reasons and excuses as to why they should be the only ones to take the ghost child in as their own.

In the end, the Ancients came to the agreement of split custody. They would all adopt their little king, but the consequences were dire and unprecedented. With so many powerful beings claiming an even more powerful being as their own child, their little one’s power increased to an all time high nearly breaking the mortal body he resided in.

Every being dead and alive could feel the birth of a new primordial being born. Primordials, beings even more powerful than Ancients, were an extinct species. Any who existed would eventually fade into their domains and lose their sentience for all of existence.

But the Ancients did not want this. They did not want this end for their child. They would not allow it.

Instead, they planned. They traveled different worlds and planets, spreading tales of the Great King Phantom. The epithets they gave him were grand and they would not leave until their work was finished. Their child would be revered, feared, and most importantly, he would be remembered and sentient and alive.

Belief is a powerful tool. Powerful enough to keep Gods immortal, and Primordials from fading. So long as the mortals believed the Primordials were still walking among them, their child would never die. He might not understand why he had to visit his worshippers every few years, but it is for his own good.

Then came two more. Not quite Primordials, but they were certainly on their way. The girl was made in their child’s own image, a mirror. The boy was their child but different. From the moment he appeared, he was no longer outside of time, but outside of space itself.

And with them, came the human female. She was a fierce warrior. Headstrong and bold and so very protective of their little ones. She too became theirs. She too became their child. Yet she was too mortal, too fragile. They could not let this stand.

So they spread tales and created myths. Anything to ascend their mortal daughter into godhood and keep their immortal children alive. So came the legend of the Dragon. The legend of their children.

The Dragon has three heads

Jasmine, their little dragon. Three heads, one for each of her siblings. One head for each mouth she had to feed. One head for each mouth she had to teach. One head for each mouth she had to protect. Three heads for the three children she had to raise as a mere child herself.

And like a dragon, she persevered. Like a dragon, she fought with passion and power and pride. With the strength and determination of a dragon because in truth, she is a dragon. Born by fire, kissed by fire, loved by fire. None could deny the dragon blood running through her veins.

One to be a murderer who will unleash death

Daniel, their little destroyer. He who creates destruction and chaos with every step he takes. He who embodies rage and despair, love and fury, grief and sorrow. His emotions high and potent when it comes to those he loves, as well as those he hates. Having lost everyone he held so dearly, it is not a wonder as to why he is so ruthless and possessive over the family he has now.

One to be a monarch whose crown will weigh heavy

Danyal, their little savior. The assassin prince destined to defeat the tyrant and rule them for all of eternity. The boy king destined to lead and protect them for all of eternity. The holy emperor destined to ensure peace and prosperity spread throughout the Infinite Realms for all of eternity. The perfect and omnipotent God meant to be praised and worshipped for all of eternity.

And One to be mad whose ideas will change history

Danielle, their little wanderer. She who broke free from the unknowing chains that shackled her. She who bent and molded reality, forcefully rewriting the ancient laws. She who bowed to no man, no ideal, no predestined fate as she roamed and reshaped worlds. The little princess would create what she wanted, transform what she wanted, change what she wanted and none could stop her. Not when she was evolution itself.

Sometimes people call Bruce "hypocritical" when he is simply a parent that doesn't want his kids to do the same mistakes as him. You know, something every normal parent does.

Like, is he hypocritical when he wants them to finish college when he didn't, or is he just a parent that sacrificed his studies for a cause and wants his kids to enjoy university without the same pressure? Is he hypocritical when he doesn't want his kids to date dangerous people when he has quite the track record, or is he just a parent that wants to protect his kids from the same heartbreaks and dangers he went through? Is he hypocritical when he gets angry his kids got hurt protecting him when he would do the same for them, or is he just a parent and it is his role to protect his kids, and he sees the inverse has a failure from his part, as a child shouldn't protect their parent? Is he hypocritical when he gets annoyed that his kids don't take care of themselves and their injuries when he often doesn't take care of himself, or is he just a parent that wants his kids to be safe and in good health more than he wants himself safe and in good health? Is he hypocritical when he wants them to be less violent when he has been extremely violent in the past, or is he just a parent that knows the error of his ways and wants his kids to be better than him?

He wants his kids to be better than him, which means not making the same mistakes.

I sometimes think about and ponder on how Bruce is such an overprotective yet mostly well meaning parent towards Dick. Yet Bruce is also the type of parent who fails to realise that their kid has grown up and can look after themselves and doesn’t need them for protection and guidance anymore. 

Dick and Bruce are both control freaks but for different reasons. Bruce is a control freak because he thinks that as long as he is in control of the situation that means he can protect the ones he loves from harm or losing them altogether. Because when his parents died he had no control over that. He felt powerless that he couldn’t do nothing to prevent it. Even though he was just a helpless little 8-9 year old boy who could do nothing but stand there watching helplessly as it played out before his very eyes.

While Dick is a control freak for the opposite reasons to Bruce. He needs to stay in control of himself and not let others tell him what to do and values his freedom his independence if that makes sense. All his life even with his own parents he was excepted to do as he was told, like how most children do. He wasn’t listened to in his own mind he felt responsible for his own parents death depending on the version it was because he didn’t tell them about stranger threatening Mr Haly or in some tellings he wasn’t listen to by his parents. He had no one to turn to really and much like Bruce he was just a powerless little boy. Who nobody truly heard, Dick Grayson to the world was just a child and therefore had no voice.

The only person who truly heard Dick’s voice was Bruce Wayne who saw himself in the young boy and knew the only way to save this boy from becoming like him was to get him his justice and put Dick Grayson parents killer behind bars. He became like a second father towards the young lad, family, the dynamic duo crime fighters of Gotham. Which is why Dick was able to heal and move on mostly from the loss of his parents because unlike Bruce. He had someone to fill the void that was lost when his parents died. Bruce Wayne the Batman because like a father to him a second father, in a way he was Dick light shining hope in the darkest part of his life. It’s so important to Dick development as a character and without it he wouldn’t be the same person he is today and it’s also so important that Dick time as Robin was a pretty happy one as well.

Both Bruce and Dick saved each other just by becoming each other new family. Bruce didn’t need anything from Dick all he needs from him is to just exist to remind him why he does what he does.

So imagine the hurt Dick must feel as a young adult. That his second father who heard his voice and listen to him all those years ago. Is now not listening to his voice really anymore or respecting his decisions as a young adult a man in his own right. While it comes from a place of good intentions. Dick cannot help but feel he is still seen and viewed as just a little boy by him and the crushing feeling of never truly living up to his expectations and the shadow that the Bat casts onto him. When will he ever be good enough to finally be taken seriously by him as his own man. Dick coming of age story is about finding one self in the world and crafting out his own legacy and what being a superhero means to him and him alone.

While it wasn’t Bruce intention, he did in fact put pressure onto Dick even though he doesn’t want him grow up to be like him. He values him so highly and he is glad that he grew up to be a much better man than he will ever be. He loves his surrogate son so much but with that comes fear. Like any parent he cannot help but worry for Dick future and the decisions that he makes as an adult and he will state his opinion on what he thinks of said decisions Dick makes in his life. He didn’t approve of Dick dropping out of college which caused some tension between the two of them for a good bit.

I always found Batman #330 original released in September 11th 1980 really interesting because of how Lucius fox and his son Tim Jace fox comes into play in that story Bruce compares himself to Lucius while Tim to Dick and how he cannot understand why would in he in Bruce’s eyes be throwing away his future. So when Bruce is talking all this nonsense to Tim he wasn’t actually speaking to Tim rather it’s the things he wanted to say to Dick.

Dick probably understood at that point that this was never about Tim or the thugs rather it was about Bruce who took out his own frustrations with Dick by projecting them onto Tim and the thug members. The themes and parallels to a father that being Lucius and his son Tim to Bruce and Dick within that comic book story makes it so painfully clear to me. It was about a Father who was upset with his son life choices for his future and only wants what is best for him even if he isn’t going about it in the best way possible.

The biggest hurdle for Dick and Bruce relationship as surrogate father and son is miscommunication and how the other isn’t willing to listen to the other. Bruce is the parent who always think he knows what is best which is not always the case which leads to him fighting with Dick all the time because he is blinded by the idea that his adult son might know better then him and stubbornly refuses to budge on that for a stupidly long time.

DPXDC Prompt #148 Part 4

The drive took an hour or so and Danny was thankful for the help.

Nightwing offered to drive him after Danny told him his soulmate's name. He told Danny they often did security work for the Wayne household. The motorcycle wasn’t that comfortable but considering how far he actually was from Damian he thanked Nightwing for the help anyways. They we’re quickly buzzed in at the gate, Danny assumed Nightwing called them at some point during the ride. He thought he heard him talking over the hum of the bike as they drove but Danny was too tired to pay attention.

They turned onto the driveway and Danny let out a sigh of relief as he climbed down from the bike. They walked up the staircase and Nightwing knocked on the door. The door was quickly opened and a friendly butler welcomed them.

“Mr. Nightwing, thank you for looking out for young Mr. Daniel here. I am Alfred Pennyworth,  Master Damian is waiting for you in the den. Please, follow me.” Mr. Pennyworth greeted warmly before heading into the mansion. 

“Go ahead Danny, I’ve got to get back to it,” Nightwing smiled at him before he departed on his bike heading back down the driveway.

Danny followed after the butler and the two headed down a few different hallways. Danny felt weird keeping silent but also didn’t know what to say to the butler. 

They eventually arrived in a large room Danny could only assume was the Den. Damian was on the couch reading but he set the book down on a coffee table with a bookmark in it when he saw Alfred walk in wit Danny.

He stood up and approached them, “Daniel. What happened? I got worried when Pennyworth told me Nightwing found you on a roof in Bludhaven.”

Danny let out a sigh of relief, he could feel his core ache. Actually now that he had a moment to catch his breath, his mom’s hit did more than just hit his side. He remembered on one of his trips to the far frozen, Frostbite told him that ghosts often seek comfort from their soulmate when harmed or injured. He didn’t want to admit it but he felt weak as he let himself be guided to the couch to sit down. Damian sat down next to him and he helped Danny get into a comfortable position before settling next to him.

Once he was finally seated he took a moment to breath and gather his thoughts and then spoke, “Can you call me Danny? Daniel always felt like I was in trouble…”

“Of course, Danny… If you don’t mind me asking, are you hurt? You seem to be avoiding your left side.” 

Danny took a deep breath, he came here with a resolve to tell his soulmate everything but now that he was here he was having second thoughts about it. If Damian rejected him he didn’t think his core could handle it, from what Frostbite told him his core might even crack or shatter completely.

He took another deep breath and thought about it for a moment. Damian was his soulmate. If there was anyone in the world that would accept everything about Danny, it would be his soulmate right? He nodded to himself, he had to know.

“Yeah, I’ve got a graze on my side from a small fight I had. I’ll be fine, I just need to rest.” Danny said fidgeting with his hands as he stared at them.

Damian suddenly sat up, “If your injured let me take a look, I won’t allow you to go untreated if I can do something about it.”

Danny felt a little stunned but he could tell his soulmate meant it. Damian really cared about him even if they had just met. 

“I… there’s actually something I should probably tell you… before we go too far.” He finally stuttered out.

“Whatever it is, I’m here for you. I vow that no harm shall befall you as long as I’m right by your side.” Damian declared, a fire burned bright in his eyes. 

It was honestly a little too much for Danny, but it also felt like it was exactly what he needed to hear for his core felt a comforting warmth to it. 

He nodded to himself he had to do this.

“Do you believe in ghosts?” Danny started.

Damian thought about the question for a moment before answering, “yes, however I am a little skeptical.”

Danny laughed a little at that, “yeah, so did my parents. They even built a portal to their world. It didn’t work at first though, so my friends convinced me to check it out… Turns out you should really check where you put the on button when you're designing a portal.”

Damian let Danny say what he needed too, he sat there and nodded for Danny to continue.

“The portal opened up with me inside. It was honestly the worst experience of my life and… let me just show you.” Danny took a deep breath, this was it. Time to show his soulmate exactly what he was getting himself into. He let the rings wash over him and he was in ghost form once again. His soulmate didn’t say anything but Danny could tell he was a little shocked to say the least.

“Can I see your hand?” He asked Damian who held his hand out for him. Danny gently grabbed it and led it to his neck. Damian’s eyes narrowed when he couldn’t find a pulse. Danny gave him a sad smile, “the other ghosts call me a halfa, half ghost, half human. I can do everything a ghost can and everything a human can.”

He turned back and slumped back down in his seat. He looked over and Damian was deep in thought, he took a while to respond but when he did he looked Danny straight in the eyes, “We’re your parents the people who hurt you?”

due to the recent surge of death eater activity, my parents are concerned for my safety, so i have to stay at home for a while until things have died down.

i wish i didn't have to go, but i'm leaving on friday.

Wait so deadass lead poisoning can create that much of an impact? Like seriously? Scientifically?

It's a pretty complex topic that we don't fully understand and likely won't for a very long time, but there is very clear evidence that lead exposure during childhood is significantly linked to a number of negative health effects including significant negative effects on cognition, emotional regulation, and a bunch of other shit. It's also not safe for adults, but it's mostly concerning in children.

Basically it boils down to "hey turns out when we stopped exposing the entire country to a shit ton of a neurotoxin that we were putting into gas, paint, and basically everything for like a solid 30 years that was actually good for them"

Because like, lead is 100% a neurotoxin and there is no safe dose of it. Even our current reference level of 3.5 ppm isn't considered safe by the CDC, it's our current targeting system for addressing the most concerning cases as we focus on trying to get down to 0.

Obviously, again, not the only problem in the US, but one that can often go unrecognized and will probably get a lot more study in the future.

being a young woman is so strange because you’re trying to gain more life skills and independence that people expect with adulthood, but your parents and loved ones are TERRIFIED of letting you go anywhere on your own because of how dangerous it is. like they’re afraid of someone attacking you or creeping you out so they’re like “no you can’t go there it’s dangerous, why would you do that by yourself”, etc, but then they’re surprised and baffled when you don’t feel comfortable doing new things or driving far or exploring new places??? and they make fun of you for it???

ngl I would feel bad for those kids because like. every kid thinks their situation is normal until they reach a certain age and see how other people’s parents act and these kids are like. what do you MEAN other parents aren’t having knife fights in the kitchen after they think we’re asleep!!! what do you mean other people’s parents can be in public and behave calmly without their heads constantly on a swivel keeping eyes on all the exits!!! what do you mean other parents aren’t just. staring each other down weirdly and intensely all the time!!! it would be a nightmare

I have… lots of thoughts on milsiril and kabru and the commentary on mixed-race family/adoption, in particular white parents with children of color. I think it’s really cool kui incorporated this into the story because lots of (particularly white) people just think adoption is this pure altruistic thing and don’t think about the negative affects it has on kids (again, kids of color) to not have people of their own culture to grow up with.
