1. how many works do you have on Ao3? 36?! When did that happen...
2. what's your total Ao3 word count? 1,612,719, and now I'm eyeing the shibari fic and my written WIP where chapter 4 of 6 is going to be 60+ word document pages all on its own...
3. what fandoms do you write for? ATLA! Though I'm starting to eye The Radian Emperor too, if I can figure out the writing style

5. do you respond to comments? I do! I do my best to reply to all of them, I love hearing people's thoughts and chatting about the fic or the characters or canon. Though I am currently egregious behind after the holidays, doing my best to catch up...
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don't know that I do angsty *endings* versus just highly emotional situations that end in (hopefully) satisfying ways? To Cleave These Roots We've Made is probably my angstiest run into an ending, and Of Tea and Turtle Ducks (and the Turtle Duck Guy) just had a very high-emotion end. I don't know, what do you guys think? I don't always have a good read on the tone of my own fics lol
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Ohhh this is tough, maybe To Be Named, To Be Known (To Be Loved) or (With Wonder and Care) Reach for Far-flung Dreams, in part because the endings are just a culmination of a lot of like warm feelings? Or Didn't Know What I Was Missing (But I Guess I Found It) because we were all so happy the three of them finally talked lol?
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not really, though Katara in Burning Bright has been fairly polarizing. It's not hate but it's also like...not happy haha
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Oh, do I ever! And...all the kinds (m/m, f/m/ poly, f/f incoming)? Full on, graphic, self-recognition-through-the-boner character-developing smut.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I don't!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? oh man I hope not. I don't even know how I'd find out, unless someone told me
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes! Into Russian!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, though I got close with certain installments in the Zukki series with the way Ash helped me outline haha. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but it feels more like long-form roleplay when I imagine it.
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship? This is a hard question! Because there's stuff I read fic for and stuff I write and then stuff I've like, read and gently rotated in my head for the rest of my life. But to make it easy--Zukka haha
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I tend not to let myself have too many simultaneous WIPs, and I don't really break my rule about finishing a work before starting to post, so no, looking at the current set. There's ideas I'd like to write that I'm not sure I will, but nothing started.
16. What are your writing strengths? I'd say dialogue, characterization, and building narrative tension and momentum
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Fight scenes lol. I don't know why they're so much harder than smut scenes, they should be the same, except smut is like intensely close and intimate and full of sensation and emotions and fight scenes have to be go-go-go but still full of sensation and emotions just different ones haha
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I've never tried! It seems like it would be difficult, me knowing only the one (and Latin, that doesn't count haha) and so much of the fun of language being in the wordplay and clever turns of phrase and the world of difference between someone saying "father" or "dad"
19. First fandom you wrote for? ATLA! I wrote some original fiction back in the day, but fandom-wise ATLA is my first go
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? So cruel to make me choose! I am a little bit in love with everything I post. And I will cheat by saying either To Open Every Door to Night, To Meet Each Rising Sun or Just Let My Love Adorn You (You Gotta Know that I Adore You) right now, I'm so pleased with how they both came out, and they were so much fun to write. Both really came together so well from what I initially imagined.

30 Ways To Practice Self-Love and Be Good to Yourself

1. Start each day by telling yourself something really positive. How well you handled a situation, how lovely you look today. Anything that will make you smile.
2. Fill your body with food and drink that nourishes it and makes it thrive.
3. Move that gorgeous body of yours every single day and learn to love the skin you’re in. You can’t hate your way into loving yourself.
4. Don’t believe everything you think. There is an inner critic inside of us trying to keep us small and safe. The downside is this also stops us from living a full life.
5. Surround yourself with people who love and encourage you. Let them remind you just how amazing you are.
6. Stop the comparisons. There is no one on this planet like you, so you cannot fairly compare yourself to someone else. The only person you should compare yourself to is you.
7. End all toxic relationships. Seriously. Anyone who makes you feel anything less than amazing doesn’t deserve to be a part of your life.
8. Celebrate your wins no matter how big or small. Pat yourself on the back and be proud of what you have achieved.
9. Step outside of your comfort zone and try something new. It’s incredible the feeling we get when we realize we have achieved something we didn’t know or think we could do before.
10. Embrace and love the things that make you different. This is what makes you special.
11. Realize that beauty cannot be defined. It is what you see it as. Don’t let any of those Photoshopped magazines make you feel like your body isn’t perfect. Even those models don’t look like that in real life.
12. Take time out to calm your mind every day. Breathe in and out, clear your mind of your thoughts and just be.
13. Follow your passion. You know that thing that gets you so excited but scares you at the same time. The thing you really want to do but have convinced yourself it won’t work. You should go do that!
14. Be patient but persistent. Self-love is ever evolving. It’s something that needs to be practiced daily but can take a lifetime to master. So be kind and support yourself through the hard times.
15. Be mindful of what you think, feel and want. Live your life in ways that truly reflect this.
16. Treat others with love and respect. It makes us feel better about ourselves when we treat others the way we hope to be treated. That doesn’t mean everybody will always repay the favor, but that’s their problem not yours.
17. Find something to be grateful for every day. It’s inevitable that you are going to have your down days. This is fine and very human of you. It’s especially important on these days to find at least one thing you are grateful for as it helps to shift your mind and energy around what’s going on.
18. Reach out to family, friends, healers, whomever you need to help you through the tough times. You are not expected to go through them alone.
19. Learn to say no. Saying no sometimes doesn’t make you a bad person, it makes you a smart person.
20. Forgive yourself. You know that thing you did one time (or maybe a few times) that made you feel bad, embarrassed, ashamed? It’s time to let that go. You can’t change the things you have done in the past but you can control your future. Look at it as a learning experience and believe in your ability to change.
21. Write it down. Head swimming with so many thoughts it’s giving you a headache? Write them all down on a piece of paper, no matter how crazy, mean, sad, or terrifying they are. Keep it in a journal, tear it up, burn it, whatever you need to do to let it go.
22. Turn off and inwards. Grab a cup of your favorite tea, coffee, wine, whatever your choice of drink, and sit down for a few minutes on your own. No TV or distractions, just you. Think about the wonderful things that are happening in your life right now, what your big dreams are and how you can make them happen.
23. Give up the need for approval from others. “You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who hates peaches.” — Dita Von Teese
24. Be realistic. There is no person on this earth that is happy every single moment of every single day. You know why? Because we are all human. We make mistakes, we feel emotions (good and bad) and this is OK. Allow yourself to be human.
25. Get creative and express yourself in whatever way you like. Painting, writing, sculpting, building, music, whatever takes your fancy, and make sure you leave your inner critic at the door. There are no right ways to be creative.
26. Let go of past trauma and wounds. This can be a really tough one and it may be one of those times you need to turn to others for support. The truth is though, when we let go of things that have happened to us it’s almost like a weight is lifted off our shoulders. We don’t have to carry that around with us anymore. We deserve better.
27. Find your happy place. Where’s the one place you feel totally at ease, calm, happy, positive, high on life? Go to that place when you are going through hard times, or imagine yourself being there. Think about how it feels, what it smells like, what it looks like.
28. The next time you are feeling happy and on top of the world make a list of your best qualities and accomplishments. It may sound a little corny, but it can be a wonderful reminder when you are having a day that’s less than amazing.
29. Get in touch with your inner dialogue. If it’s anything less than loving, encouraging and supportive, it’s time to make a change. You deserve to be spoken to in the same way you would speak to your best friend, sister, brother, daughter, or son.
30. Have fun! Get out there and do the things that light your fire. Enjoy them, enjoy being you and enjoy your incredible life.

Celtic Tree Astrology is the astrological system practiced by the ancient Irish. It is based on an ancient Celtic symbol system. The Celtic Zodiac is drawn from the beliefs of the Druids and is based on the cycles of the moon. The year is divided into 13 lunar months, with a tree (sacred to the druids) assigned to each month. Each tree has particular magical qualities whose secret mysteries come from the ancient Celtic alphabet, the Ogram.
The Celts envisioned the entire Universe in the form of a tree, whose roots grew deep below (in the ground) and whose branches reached up high (into the Heavens). In time, the Celtic people eventually designated a tree to each of the 13 Moon phases in their calendar, in accordance with its magical properties. As such the Celtic Zodiac is based upon the cycles of the Moon, with the year divided into the 13 lunar months established by the Druid religion.
The Druid religion was based mainly upon an awareness of natural and supernatural energies. These energies were identified with spirits and the Celtic Druids believed that trees were given these spirits, who dwelt within, and were perceived as attributes of the Supreme Being. Thus, trees were considered living entities, possessed with Infinite Knowledge and Wisdom, symbolically representative of the Cycle of Life, Death and Renewal, and symbolically connected with the three planes of existence: mind, body, and spirit.
Birch – The Achiever
December 24 – January 20
If you were born under the energy of the Birch you can be highly driven, and often motivate others they become easily caught in your zeal, drive and ambition. You are always reaching for more, seeking better horizons and obtaining higher aspirations. The Druids attributed this to your time of birth, which is a time of year shrouded by darkness, so consequently you are always stretching out to find the light. Birch signs (just like the tree) are tolerant, tough, and resilient. You are cool-headed and are natural-born rulers, often taking command when a situation calls for leadership. You are naturally curious, and have an interest in a broad range of topics. You are an excellent listener, and people seek you out as an outlet to release their burdens. You have a healthy sense of humor, and have a clear understanding of irony. You tend to see the big picture, and have amazing insight – although you typically won’t give yourself enough credit for your observations. Hawthorn signs match up nicely with Ash and Rowan’s.
Oak – The Stabilizer

Those born under the Celtic tree astrology sign of the Oak have a special gift of strength. They are protective people and often become a champion for those who do not have a voice. In other words, the Oak is the crusader and the spokesperson for the underdog. Nurturing, generous and helpful, you are a gentle giant among the Celtic zodiac signs. A Star Wars New Years
This drabble is a little silly, I’m sorry I couldn’t resist. It’s inspired by the wonderful responses to my latest: GAME TIME!!! Hope you all like it. I’m tagging everybody that played the game or that has played the game in the past and showed a particular interest in a trooper. A majority of these situations are based on past GAME TIME answers.

“They’ll be here!,” I stated again. Dell, Liz, and DD looked at me with slight irritation written across all of their faces at my overly optimistic attitude. To be fair their boyfriends were 2 hours late. 
I had decided to throw a New Years Eve party for all of the new friends I made this year. We met through an online group chat, specifically designed to help those who were in a relationship with partners who traveled a lot. I don’t know if the company who made the chat room realized how many of its members are in an illegal relationship with half of the clone troopers in the GAR.
The party was a hit for the first hour that people were arriving, but as the second hour crept by half the party was getting antsy. The problem was the 501st. They were incredibly late and because they were dating half the attending party, their absence was extremely noticeable.
“How do you know that?” Dell states from beside me, her party hat slightly crooked atop her head. Liz and DD looked up at me as well from their plate of chocolate mousse.
“Because,” I stated simply, “if he doesn’t show up I know for a fact that Sev is going to kick his shebs”, a smirk making its way onto my lips as I take a sip of my beer, making her laugh.
 “Sev wouldn’t do that,” Dell remarked, making me raise my eyebrows in disbelief. 
I heard a soft chuckle and we all turned to see Niner across the room where he was eating some of my famous casserole with Albane, “Yes he would,” he stated with a smirk, “you’re like his little sister, he’d definitely kick his ass if he doesn’t show up tonight.”
Dell’s eyes widened in slight horror, “What?!”
“But he’s not going to because he’ll be here! Besides you two literally have the same name, you were meant for each other, I’m sure they just got held up in traffic or something” I state trying to calm the situation down a bit. 
As if on cue, someone knocked on the door, Ponds and I made eye contact from across the room, a silent conversation going between us, if this wasn’t the boys in blue they were going to be in deep bantha fodder. 
Ponds opened the door and sighed in relief, “where have you all been?” he questioned as he held the door open for the three troopers to come in. Fives, Rex and Del all came through the door. Fives eyes search the room until they finally land on DD. His eyes light up as he goes over to them and wastes no time in sweeping them up into a bone crushing hug and giving them a searing kiss on the lips. I stepped back a bit, slightly uncomfortable by just how enthusiastic Fives was being. 
“Hey Reg,” Crosshair called from the couch where he had his arm wrapped around Johanna, “the kissing isn’t supposed to be until midnight.”
Lips never leaving DD’s, Fives simply flipped Crosshair the finger from its place on DD’s waist.
“Sorry we’re late,” I heard Rex say as Liz made her way over to him, “Skywalker,” is all he said. 
“Was there a meeting?” Liz questioned from beside him, before giving him a sweet peck on the cheek, they were truly adorable. 
Rex threw his arm around her shoulder and sighed, “no he just --” 
“-- wouldn’t stop talking!” Fives exclaimed, interrupting the Captain. “He was giving the longest toast I’ve ever heard in my life, pretty sure he was drunk.”
I giggle slightly at that, trying to imagine the great General Skywalker drunk off his ass and loudly toasting to the whole 501st.
Everyone started to gather in the living room in front of the holo to watch the performances leading up to the new year, the fireworks display truly was something spectacular. I jump slightly as I felt a pair of arms come around my waist, giggling when I realized it was only Ponds. 
“Hi,” I laughed, turning my head slightly to give him a sweet kiss on the cheek, “what are you up to?” I question.
“Oh nothing major, just checking on my beautiful girlfriend.” he mumbled into my ear, making me flush bright crimson, I swat his shoulder playfully earning a laugh from him.
“Did you see what Del brought?” he asked, making me frown slightly,  “no, I didn’t.” I search the room with my eyes where I now see Dell sitting with Del. She has a beautiful bouquet of flowers sitting in her lap, a shy smile on her face as Del puts some of the flowers in her braid. Maker they’re cute together.
“Huh, smart man,” I say with a smile. I glance at the whole party and take in the new friends I made this year. 
Albane was now sitting on a loveseat with Niner, she had told me earlier that she hoped to share her first kiss with him tonight, I was rooting for her in my head. 
Alpha-17 was lurking in the corner of the living room staring at Cher with so much longing in his eyes it hurt my heart, why he had yet to profess his love to them was beyond me. It was obvious to all but the two that they were madly in love with each other. If there’s another mistletoe incident and he doesn’t kiss them again tonight, I’m gonna slap him across the head. 
Crosshair and Johanna have disappeared from the group, I start to panic slightly until I remembered that I locked all of the bedroom doors, a lesson I learned when we all went to Liz’s house for the Life Day party. We all laugh about it now, all except for Rex.
I glance over at DD and Fives, his lips finally unattached from their face, DD is sitting comfortably on his lap watching someone sing on the holo. Fives is looking at DD like they are the most beautiful star in the galaxy. 
Liz and Rex are standing behind the couch, his arm still slung around her with her head on his shoulder and her hand on his chest. In this light I can clearly see her beautiful blue engagement ring glittering on her hand. 
My eyes snap back to Fives as I hear him shouting that the countdown has begun. Everyone starts counting down, “20, 19, 18, 17…”
I glance around the room again and can’t help but smile. This year has been tough, there was no denying that. But as I saw everybody crowded around the holo and chanting the countdown, I realized just how lucky I was. I made some incredible good friends this year. 
“... 3, 2, 1! Happy New Year!”
I sighed happily and turned around, still in Ponds arms and kissed him, the chaos around me becoming muted as I got lost in his warm lips. 
I pull away and look up into his eyes and smile, “Happy New Year,” I say softly, cupping his cheek. He smiled at me and held my hand to his face, “Happy New Year,” he whispered back.
I hear a loud cheer from behind me and turn around in time to see Alpha-17 cupping Cher’s face and giving them a kiss with a softness I didn’t know the ARC could muster. Next to them Albane gives Niner a shy kiss on the lips, his eyes widen in surprise, but he’s quick to pull her closer to him, deepening the kiss. 
Crosshair and Johanna make an appearance behind them, Johanna’s hair in a slight state of disarray and Crosshair’s lips are painted a beautiful shade of red, the red I believe Johanna was wearing at the beginning of the night. 
I laugh at all of my friend’s antics, happy that I met such incredible people. 
Maybe this year wasn’t too bad after all.

So I saw this 100 Questions About Your OTP post, and I decided to do them for Hiccanna! And...I am never doing one of these memes again, because this took forever XD I decided to split it in two to avoid just creating a giant Monster Post. Especially kinda lopsided weird ones with sunflowers and shit. Hiccup likes them a lot too but is too embarrassed to ever admit it 2. Who is the one who likes to cuddle? Probably Anna tbh, she’s extremely huggy and cuddly and basically always initiates the cuddle sessions. Hiccup is secretly super grateful for this because he’s actually touch-starved as all hell but absolutely is not aware of it like cmon do you think big tough Stoic hugged him a lot growing up??? Kinda doubt it tbh 3. Who has awful taste in music? Depends on who you ask XD Hiccup has exactly 2 Music Moods--Stuffy classical orchestal stuff with a bunch of fancy violin and flute and whatnot, and edgy underground alternative hipster nonsense from bands no one has ever heard of. Anna, meanwhile, is a simple woman, who listens almost exclusively to shitty, catchy-butvery-unoriginal Top 40 hits and belts along with them to the radio, much to Hiccup’s chagrin XD 4. Who is the meme lover? A N N A she is a memelord supreme 5. How did their second date go? An...oddly specific question XD But I’ll take a stab at it. I imagine on their first date they went to see some high fantasy epic movie with fancy CGI (they’d both be HELLA into that--Anna for the magic and epic romances and Hiccup for the interesting magical creatures) and then gushed about it for hours afterwards, so their second date might be something a bit more lowkey where they’d just talk and hang out. I feel like they both probably are coffee addicts, so...a coffee shop date, maybe? And Anna gets some kinda chocolate pastry, of course! 6. How many children do they want/have? Tbh unpopular opinion probably, but I actually don’t think Hiccup and Anna would necessarily want kids??? They’re definitely the kind of couple who would love exploring the world and taking spontaneous adventures together, and you can do a lot less of that when kids are typing you down. Not to mention I think the full-time responsibility of having a kid would be pretty exhausting to Anna in particular, as someone who identifies with her a lot and has never wanted kids because even thinking about it makes me tired XD I mean sure, Anna has a nurturing side that comes out with Elsa sometimes, but she doesn’t have to use that ALL THE TIME (since Elsa is a grown-ass adult usually capable of sound judgement) like she would with a kid. But ALL THAT SAID if they DID end up having kids I don’t think they’d go too crazy with it, probably just 1. Or 2 at the VERY most. 7. Who hides the weapons? You mean like...in an AU where they’re infiltrating an enemy fortress or something? Probably Anna, since she’s the more innocent and harmless-looking of the two XD 8. Who is the better dancer? They both can’t dance for SHIT it’s absolutely cringeworthy but probably Anna at the end of the day because she probably spent a lot of time practicing in those empty ballrooms 9. Do/Did they have a theme wedding? They’d probably want to have some kind of a magic high fantasy theme, since they’d both be hella into that--and then it ends up morphing into “Dragons and Princesses” XD Anna ends up getting over-the-top fancy princess dresses for all of her bridesmaids and Hiccup has the time of his damn life making basically everything in the buffet dragon-themed. The cake is like half dark green or black scale-patterned and half fancy-patterned spring green tiers. It’s quite the event of the decade! 10. What do their parents think of them dating? Valka absolutely ADORES Anna and thinks she’s perfect for her son--the perfect blend of cheerful and compassionate when she needs to encourage him, but also badass and tough-spirited to protect him when she needs to. Stoic doesn’t really like Anna at first--he’s under the (mistaken) impression that she’s a wimp and finds her bubbliness kind of grating and annoying, and generally worries that dating her will just make Hiccup even more of a wimp. He’d rather him date a no-nonsense tough-as-nails asskicker like Astrid in hopes it would toughen him up. However, once Stoic sees Anna do something like punch someone out with no hesitation when they pick on her and Hiccup, Stoic comes around to Anna VERY quickly XD I feel like Agnar and Iduna would just be happy to see their daughter dating a sweet, dorky guy who loves her with all of her being and appreciates her for who she is. As long as he treats her well and makes her feel loved (which he most certainly would because he’s a precious cinnamon roll), he gets their stamp of approval. And hey, anything is an improvement over Hans XD 11. Are they a super sappy couple? Nah. I imagine they do a lot of PDA and probably hold hands or kiss in public a lot, but they’re not like...overly gooey in how they talk to each other, if that makes any sense. If anything, their flirting is painfully awkward, even AFTER they get together XD So much so that when they try to hit on each other in front of their friends their friends are like “oh my god STOP this is too much secondhand cringe for me to bear” 12. How did they get together? I like to imagine they’re friends for a long while but both of them fully 100% believe that the other is ridiculously out of their league and they’re irreparably trapped in the friendzone and one day they’re hanging out with their friends and awkwardly flirting with each other (but of couRse the other person isn’t FLIRTING they’re just being NICE they both figure) and finally Jack just shouts “oh my god will you two just fuck already???” and after a few minutes of utter mortification they just have the world’s most awkward love confession XD Anna finally relents and asks Hiccup on a date, and of course he says yes! 13. Who asked the other to get married? I can honestly imagine either of them asking but probably Hiccup. And he’s SO nervous about it that he starts straight stuttering the first few times he tries to ask and has to stop and change the subject XD He probably gets it finally after like...the 5th time. 14. Who stays up too late and makes stupid jokes? A N N A 100% I headcanon that she has pretty bad insomnia (that’s why she has such a hard time waking up and is so tired in the morning!) so she stays up to the wee hours of the morning with her brain spinning with incredibly weird thoughts and her sense of humor becomes nigh indecipherable after 3 am. 15. Who is the nerd? Hiccup obviously is this even a question??? He spends all day collecting dragon facts and lore and building weird scientific contraptions to help crippled dragons fly WHAT A NERD  16. Who knows the most obscure facts? Hiccup again, he knows so many dragon factoids and random scientific shit that Anna sometimes wonders how he manages to fit anything else in there 17. Who makes the other a flower crown? Anna! She makes ones for both herself and Hiccup and Hiccup begrudgingly wears his but secretly thinks it’s pretty and likes it because it reminds him of his dorky gf :3 18. Who likes to read? Both! I mean Hiccup obviously does because, as established above, he is a nerd, but Anna has canonically read every book in the Arendelle castle library, some twice, so she doesn’t NOT like to read. Hiccup probably reads more, though, between the two of them--Anna often doesn’t really have the attention span for it. 19. Who bothers the other person while the other person reads? ANNA she loves to constantly hang over Hiccup’s shoulder when he reads and drape herself all over him like a needy cat like “PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEEE” and Hiccup just lets out a defeated sigh and starts playing with her hair while reading and hopes this will be enough to appease the little gremlin It usually is 20. Who tutors the other? Hiccup tutors Anna, but she HATES having to ask and is actually pretty insecure about school just generally not coming as naturally to her as it does to Hiccup, so he’s always super patient and understanding with her and tries his very best to never get annoyed or frustrated if she doesn’t catch onto something right away. He doesn’t want her to ever feel stupid because he imagines it feels the same to her as when people call him weak and useless. Slowly but surely, he’s saving Anna’s grades--and building her confidence! 21. Do they have similar taste in movies? Hell yeah! They love that high fantasy shit. I also like to think Hiccup manages to get Anna into some sci-fi and Anna manages to get Hiccup into romcoms (ONLY the good ones, he insists, as he would not be caught dead watching a shitty romcom!) 22. How do their personalities compliment each other? I mean the most obvious one here is that Hiccup’s general pessimism and cynicism compliment Anna’s optimism and cheerfulness really nicely. He would be able to keep her grounded and get her to be more realistic about things, while she would encourage him to see the positive side of bad situations and be more hopeful about things in general. Also I love the contrast of Hiccup’s intelligence and more quiet, snarky nature with Anna’s rather boisterous personality and general naivitey (sp?) and energy. They’re like a downplayed version of the “the grumpy one is soft for the sunshine one” trope and I think that’s beautiful. Also, they’d both be great at soothing the other’s isecurities--Anna would be Hiccup’s biggest cheerleader and would believe in him like no one else did, and would stop at nothing to pull him out of it when he started spiraling into self-loathing and thinking he’s a fuck-up. Hiccup, meanwhile, would be so smitten with Anna and would think that it’s the most obvious thing in the world that she’s an amazing human being in her own rite and never has to feel like the “spare” princess living in her sister’s shadow. And saying this without a shadow of a doubt, like it’s common knowledge, is often exactly what Anna needs to hear to feel a little better about herself. 23. How do they tell everyone that they are going to be having a kid/adopting a child soon? I...honestly don’t think they’d be that extra about it??? In fact, they’d be the sort of couple who would be so UN-extra about it that it would do a full 180 and be hilarious. Like they’d be casually brunching with friends and Hiccup would just casually be like “oh by the way, Anna’s 3 months pregnant” or “oh, by the way, we just signed some adoption papers and we’re picking our new kid up on Saturday” and all of their friends would be like “wait WHAT” and Hiccup would be like “Anyways what were you saying about the newest episode of Alien Space Shooters 3000?” XD  24. Who has better fashion sense? Hiccup, probably. I mean, Astrid caught him making OUTFITS! The horror! The dude is also way more effeminate and, uh...clothing-conscientious than he realizes XD Anna has decent fashion sense, but I imagine that’s like 90% because Elsa spices up/makes her outfits since Elsa’s really more of the fashionista XD 25. Who will punch someone out if they are rude to their partner? Try bullying Hiccup when Anna’s around. I dare you. You’re gonna get a fistful of Anna Rage and a very angry redhead screaming “THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY TO MY BOYFRIEND I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU” Look this woman punched a man off a boat and knocked a wolf half a mile away with a guitar thing she absolutely takes no shits and she can and will fuck you up if you so much as lay a finger on her precious dork Hiccup thinks this is really hot btw 26. What songs do they sing together in the vehicle? For whatever reason the first songs that come to mind are “Africa” by Toto and “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey. ALSO “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus since they both are, in fact, teenage dirtbags XD It also like perfectly describes the story of a modern AU where Hiccup the Loser is secretly pining for Anna the Nice Popular Girl who is dating Hans the Douchebag but that’s neither here nor there 27. What other couple would your otp get along with? Jackunzel, Jackunzel, Jackunzel!!! Jack and Hiccup would definitely be bros, even if they are not above mercilessly roasting and/or trolling one another XD And Anna and Rapunzel would be BEST FRIENDS if they ever met and I will DIE on this hill, I legit don’t think Anna would Vibe with any other princess as hard as she vibes with Punzel. They could be ADHD disasters together XD 28. Who likes to prank the other? Anna actually turns out to be quite the closet gadfly and has a secret side that LOVES pranks and generally trolling Hiccup, much to everyone’s surprise and Hiccup’s mild dismay. It’s always pretty innocent and subtle pranks, like switching books on his bookshelf or hiding his various possessions in weird places in the house, but Anna absolutely LIVES for that long, defeated sigh he lets out when he realizes he’s Been Had. 29. Who is the one who loves to take pictures? Anna takes pictures of EVERYTHING on her phone--scenery, flowers, cute animals they come across, weird buildings, pretty fountains, Hiccup when he’s not looking, EVERYTHING XD She also bombs all her social media accounts with selfies of her and Hiccup and captions gloating about how great he is and how you WISH your boyfriend was this cool and rad and Hiccup is both embarrassed and flattered by this. 30. How would they react if they found out they were soul mates? Anna, who probably never stopped fully being a sucker for fairy tale True Love stories and all that shit, would fangirl for hours and hours. Hiccup would just go, “Oh, neat!” and go back to whatever project he was currently working on XD I mean his logic is mainly that regardless of whether it’s “magically destined” or not, he’s gonna date Anna anyway, so it really doesn’t make a scrap of difference to him whether she’s dubbed by some Mystical Higher Power as his soulmate lol  31. Where would they live? Well...SOMEWHERE in Scandinavia, since that’s canonically where both Berk and Arendelle are XD I kinda like the idea of them spending part of the year in Berk and part in Arendelle...maybe spring and summer in Berk, and fall and winter in Arendelle? I imagine spring and summer are when there’s the most interesting dragon activity in Berk, and winter’s probably pretty festive and colorful in Arendelle, if OFA is anything to go by. And the fall color is pretty too, going by Frozen 2. Seems like a good compromise, since I doubt either of them would want to permanently move away from their homes. 32. What type of dragon would they own, if they could have one? Given the shipping this question is HILARIOUSLY ironic Well it just so happens they would have a type of dragon called a Night Fury and name him Toothless XD Anna would probably have a dragon of her own too--I conversed with someone on fanfic.net and did some research into all the HTTYD dragons, and I think the one I like her most with is a sand wraith, since they live on the beach and Anna certainly seems to like the beach, if her throwaway comment complaining Elsa doesn’t have “tropical” powers is anything to go by XD 33. If they were both vampires, what type of vampires would they be? First of all, fuck you for making me google “Types of Vampires” and then getting me aggravated because like nowhere on the internet is there a straightforward list of vampire "species” that isn’t like 5 miles long or just a meme XD Welp, I couldn’t really find a list of vampire species that wouldn’t take forever to look over, so I wrote a summary for a vampire fanfic instead Anna turns first. I imagine probably Hans turns her--tricks her into falling in love with him without knowing he’s a vampire, and then biting her when she’s off-guard to basically try to make her into a spooky sex slave or something. Anna starts seeing Hiccup in secret (who she knew before--he’s still human at this point), and eventually he asks her to turn him so that he can be with her without her outliving him and also so that they can team up and fight Hans together. Anna has a lot of reservations about turning him, but finally agrees. They end up kicking Hans out of his spooky vampire castle and taking it for themselves XD Anna eventually makes the best of being a vampire, and has a blast wearing all manor of fancy dresses and throwing extravagant balls. She’s pretty bummed about never getting to gorge herself on garlic bread again, though :( Hiccup doesn’t much like it, especially since a lot of animals are scared of him now and he doesn’t Vibe with nature quite like he used to D: Nonetheless, he decides to use the immortality to do some pretty neat projects and work on his contraptions and inventions and whatnot. I imagine they eventually devolve into kind of a vigilante duo, and make a point of only hunting down and feeding on bad people who are actively hurting or abusing other people or animals. A pretty good incentive to not like...do violent crime in this AU is those creepy old wives’ tales people tell their kids like “don’t be an asshole when you grow up, or the Haddock vampires will get you!” 34. What would they dress up as, for Halloween? Well Hiccup would be some sort of dragon, obviously! Anna I have no idea...but I kinda like the idea of her just dressing up as a generic fairy tale princess and then going around with Hiccup like “oh no, this dragon kidnapped me!” Both their friends and various trick-or-treaters get a kick out of the whole bit. 35. Can they name each other’s favourite food? But of course! Anna’s is chocolate, krumkake, and sandwiches, and Hiccup’s is crabcakes (yes, all this is actually canon! I do my research for fanfiction thank you very much lol). And you can bet they surprise each other by buying one another’s favorite foods all the time! 36. Do they have pet names for one another? In my fanfic I always have Hiccup come up with SO MANY for Anna, like in my Fire!Anna AU fanfic alone I have Fire Hazard, Firecracker, and probably a few others I can’t remember One headcanon I really like is that whenever Anna is especially ready to attempt to kick the ass of something she really should NOT fight (such as a giant snowman), Hiccup physically has to hold her back and goes “Whoa, slow down there, tiger” and this happens so frequently that eventually it gets shortened to just calling her Tiger XD And hey, with the orange hair and the feistiness, it still fits! As for Anna, she usually just calls Hiccup Dragon Boy or Nerd XD 37. How do they cheer each other up? I imagine Hiccup probably tries to distract Anna from whatever’s bothering her by making her laugh and talking in dumb accents or imitating his dad XD Anna would probably try to help Hiccup stay optimistic about a bad situation and try to point out the positives, but more in an encouraging way than like...an obnoxious, condescending “oh, it could be worse, count your blessings!” kind of way. And Anna has so much peppy energy about it that it actually does sometimes manage to pierce Hiccup’s cynicism and make him feel a bit better, if only for a little while before he starts once again imagining everything that could possibly go wrong XD 38. Do they show a lot of PDA? Eeeeeyup XD They looooove holding hands in public, and enjoy kissing dramatically in front of the sunset and such. I mean I imagine they don’t have hardcore makeout sessions in public or feel each other up sexually, if only because they don’t want to make people THAT uncomfortable. 39. How old were they when they got together? Depends on the AU you’re using and where in both their respective timelines they meet, but I imagine them meeting either as kids or in their early teens, and then taking so damn long to spit out how they feel that they don’t actually start dating until their late teens or early 20s. 40. Who is the one that would bring the puppy home? If it’s a puppy? Probably Anna. If it’s a kitten or a weird, injured reptile? Deeeefinitely Hiccup. 41. Can they do yoga couple’s poses? They most certainly CANNOT. I like to think Elsa and Honeymaren tried to teach them one time and have a yoga double date (because of COURSE Elsa would suggest that) and it ended with Anna and Hiccup butchering every last pose, repeatedly falling on their asses, and generally having a bad time. Poor Elsa and Honeymaren had to work hard to keep from just losing their shit laughing. 42. What is their song? I mean...I don’t know what their like...OFFICIAL song is, but the songs “West End Kids” by the New Politics and “Paper Rings” by Taylor Swift have always had Big Hiccanna Energy to me. 43. What does their room look like? It’s divided pretty neatly in two. Hiccup’s side has a near-spotless floor, a desk with a perfectly-organized bookshelf and a very chic desk lamp, several movie posters and a hanging whiteboard with miscellaneous invention designs and reminders about random stuff written on it. Anna’s side looks like Hurricane Katrina just swept through, this time with a personal vendetta against snack wrappers. 44. Who would be the one to kill zombies while the other keeps them grounded? Anna would absolutely be the sort to just fuckin tear through hoards of zombies screeching battle cries and knocking them all upside the head with a crowbar, or just straight plowing down an entire hoard with some freaking machine gun she stumbled on and taught herself how to use because she wanted to be badass XD Meanwhile Hiccup is absolutely grateful for the protection because Anna can fuck up a LOT of zombies at once, but he also has to keep the girl from going TOO crazy and accidentally putting her impulsive dumbass in grave peril XD 45. Who makes the other breakfast in bed? Hiccup, for sure. He’s used to being up pretty early because I imagine you get the most dragon-flying and exploring in if you wake up early, and he knows food is basically the only thing that will make Anna not hate getting up, so he makes her breakfast in bed as often as he can to make waking up suck less. And sure enough, after a while Anna starts to hate the morning just a liiiiittle bit less XD 46. Who loves kids more? Anna! Given how fun-loving and energetic she is, she probably loves hanging out with and being around kids. Hiccup likes kids fine, but he often feels kinda awkward and weird around them (I mean...more so than usual XD) because he isn’t sure how to interact with them. When they’re around kids, Hiccup usually follows Anna’s lead on how to talk to them. 47. Do either of them have a crazy ex? Well Anna’s ex attempted to use her to infiltrate and take over a kingdom and then tried to murder her sister so I mean 48. What are their favourite colours? Going by their canon color schemes, I’m guessing Anna’s would probably be like spring green and magenta, and Hiccup’s would be a more dark, foresty green and red. 49. Who likes to cook? Hiccup. Anna can’t cook for shit because she generally doesn’t have the patience for it and would just as soon live off of freezer food if she could because it’s less trouble XD Hiccup is good at making/building things, which actually translates to him being a pretty good chef. He makes Anna food a lot and she absolutely ADORES his cooking. 50. Who is the forgetful one? Anna. Gotta love that ADHD babeyyyy! (I mean I’m practically irl Anna and I am NOTORIOUSLY forgetful so it’s gotta be her XD)

The Rewrite of Fairy Tail: Part 24 (Acnologia)
What's up with Acnologia?
I have to imagine it's weird to talk about the final villain in terms like this. With Acnologia, we have a more interesting situation as one wouldn't expect him to be the final boss. This series for many was building up Zeref to be the main antagonist. That we got Acnologia at all is a mistake for many. How am I going to handle him? It's important to note that I'm asking how to handle Acnologia. I'm not planning on removing him from the series. For all the issues I have with him, it would be a pain to try and write the series.
It's probably best to start by defending his existence a bit. Up to the Tenrou arc, we had seen the effects of Zeref's mischief, but we hadn't seen Zeref. And even then, it wasn't as if he was supposed to be a mustache-twirling evil villain. After the plan for the R-System fails, Ultear informs us that Zeref has already been alive and needs to be awakened. That term “awakened” makes it seem as though he's either in a Sleeping Beauty type of state or isn't a completely evil figure at the moment.
Of course, when we meet him on Tenrou, he seems like he's not interested in evil. We see him kill animals by accident and he just wants to find Natsu. After being kidnapped, he mentions Acnologia for the first time, lamenting his awakening and the end of an era of peace.
Acnologia and Zeref are never portrayed to be evil partners. Whereas Zeref feels as though he's potentially able to change, Acnologia isn't shown in the same light. We've seen why he does what he does, but it's not like we're meant to think he can or should change. He doesn't see what he's doing as wrong up until the moment he's dying, and barely at that. And while we understand him, I don't think he's mean to be sympathized with.
A few years ago, this kind of idea wouldn't have been well known to the public. But thanks to some comic book movie adaptations, I have a few places to point to. Joker isn't a character we're supposed to necessarily agree with. In his portrayals in the Killing Joke and Joker, we understand how he became who he is. Though it would be foolish to see the actions he takes in either story and believe that he's justified in his actions. At best, they serve as cautionary tales to avoid creating more monsters. At worst, they're freak accidents we can't do a whole lot to stop.
And, of course, Thanos has become a part of our cultural lexicon because of his portrayal in the last two Avengers movies. We learn the reasons for his quest for the Infinity Stones (insert debate about his motivation here) and the motivation behind his philosophy. However, it would be wrong to say that because he went through some tough stuff as a kid much of what he does is justified. That's not just his plans for the universe. This includes his treatment of his children, a fact people are not willing to justify like his plan, and thankfully so.
A big issue one may have is how Zeref would be a better final villain than Acnologia. The theme of the value of life works better with Zeref's goal of ruling all by destroying life than Acnologia's focus on killing dragons and those who get in his way. While I understand that, I think that Acnologia's motive relates to that enough to the goal to be a good final villain. 
Considering what I said about Zeref and Acnologia in terms of sympathy, it's interesting to note that Zeref's means of achieving that goal tend to be more indirect than Acnologia. Zeref's methods involve creating things that will eventually lead to reaching his goal, whether it be items, people, or the Alvarez Empire. Acnologia furthers his goal by actively seeking and destroying the various dragons and people that get into his way and dealing with them himself.
I find it helpful to think of Zeref and Acnologia's relationship as the main villain as similar to Natsu and Lucy's relationship as the main character. I've said a few times that while we see the series through the eyes of Lucy, Natsu is the one who is usually pushing the main plot along between the two of them. While Zeref is absolutely an important antagonistic figure, Acnologia presents a more direct attack on the guild and its members. The Demons and followers of Zeref are problems for the guild, but they're not the Black Wizard himself. Acnologia's influence is his attacks on people, specifically Igneel and members of Fairy Tail.
Now that I've defended his existence, I have some other things to say about him. I don't have much to say about his actions in a post like this. I've talked about much of his past actions already and his present actions don't present too much of an issue for me to discuss. As other posts in this series have shown, I love(?) many of his actions as a villain. I care more about two things for now: motivation and backstory.
By motivation, I don't mean to say too much about why he does what he does. The anime thankfully cleared up that much. He's seen what dragons are capable of and wants to rid the world of their dreadful effects on life. That works and is fine, especially as this pushes him to attack people who are sympathetic to the dragons he wants to kill.
Frankly, the motivation Acnologia has should make sense to the audience. In a normal situation, the issue with a villain's motivations is if the audience can generate a level of empathy without accepting their goals or actions. But to get to the point in the series that we learn why Acnologia does what he does, you have to go through the Grand Magic Games. Suffice it to say, I don't have to worry about that.
What matters to me is how I counter this. I love the guy, but Natsu's defense is weak by itself, especially considering he was part of the fight against the Eclipse dragons. To counter this, it's worth remembering that the First and Third Generation dragon slayers' dragons were willing to give up their lives for both their slayers and the world for the Face incident. The existence of dragon slayers is, in the first place, contingent on dragons who didn't hate humanity enough to leave them defenseless in the face of dragons who wanted them dead. This is important to highlight when it comes up in the final battle.
Finally, I don't want to change too much about Acnologia's backstory. I believe it to be fairly solid as his villain origin. I have to deal with a couple of specific things because of the anime.
Acnologia starts as a doctor in a town that was fairly positive to dragons. At one point, his town is attacked by a dragon they once trusted. This is the moment that creates the monster we know as Acnologia. When I wrote my first set of changes to Acnologia, I figured this would have happened because of the end credits scene in Dragon Cry. I'm fine with how the anime chose this.
However, there's one issue of times lining up. When exactly did Acnologia gain the ability to slay dragons? I want to clarify it a bit in the rewrite. He does receive the powers from the dragon originally named Acnologia before he left to find out about the status of the war. There's a tragic twist I've considered adding involving the dragon only attacking the town because he's under duress, but that's not something I'm sure I'll add.
One final thing I'd like to add. Of the many dragons killed by Acnologia, I'd like to add Belserion to his kill tally. I don't know that Irene needs that extra personal nudge to want Acnologia dead. At the same time, I think it's worth adding that connection to each other. It gives her an extra reason to work with Zeref, apart from a connection to the Mildian Academy.

Happy (Slightly Belated) Birthday, Baghdad Waltz!

I know these are stressful times right now, but I wanted to post a little something for BW’s third birthday on 3/13/2020 (and I’m a little late because I had a lot to say). THREE!! I cannot believe it. Truly, I cannot, but here we are. I know there are still a few stragglers hanging around from when I first started posting this story (extra hearts to you all), so many people who have come and gone and sometimes return again, and so many new people joining this crazy journey all the time. 
You are all so great, and you make it possible for me to keep writing this. I probably would have quit a long time ago without your support, because this shit has been quite hard to sustain sometimes. I know I am very bad at keeping up with comments and things, and I’m so sorry.  I am terrible with social media, too. People IRL will say the same thing about me. I am super old school and still talk on the phone with my friends. I KNOW.

I’ve prepared a couple of things for BW’s birthday. First, a few statistics I thought I’d whip up. Then a few questions and answers about BW, both from myself and from my beloved beta, @pitchforkcentral86​. And I’m still trucking away diligently at chapter 38! I just have a few scenes to go.

Estimated total work to date: 2,890-3,120 hours (approx 18-20 hours/week). This includes writing, rewriting, editing, research, conversations with beta, outlining, and a small portion of the brainstorming. This is a conservative estimate and only includes a fraction of the ambient thinking I do about this story. And God, I do so much processing when I sleep! Perhaps I will be a BW “expert” -- estimated at around 10,000 hours I guess? -- by the time I am done with the story and all my revisions hahahahaaaaaa D: 
Money spent to date (estimated): $600-700. This includes books on various subject matter and writing craft, video access to therapy education resources, and other educational materials. This does not include the incalculable sum in lost productivity from thinking about BW when I’m supposed to be doing other things!
Most of you probably don’t know this, but @pitchforkcentral86​ is not just a beta reader. She is my partner in crime with BW. She knows my characters as well as I do, sometimes better. She helps me troubleshoot scenes, she tells me when my writing sucks, when my I’m not being true to my characters, when I’m not being real enough (sometimes when I’m being TOO real). She gives me porn inspiration and listens to me bitch and calls my bullshit and makes this story what it is. I really mean it - this story would not be nearly as good without her, and you can see how much better it gets once she starts to get involved around chapter 17. 
So I decided I would answer some silly little questions about BW. Just my own personal opinions about stuff! And asked @pitchforkcentral86​ to contribute as well. See below. 
What are my favorite scenes in BW and why? 
In no particular order: 
The 9/11 memory (Chapter 26): When Steve is in therapy with Hope remembering when Bucky returns from Ground Zero. This was one of the first times I experimented with writing in a sort of stream-of-consciousness way (though certainly not the last!). I have done several tweaks to it since the original version, texturing it more. It’s so rich in detail, visceral detail, little details about their relationship, pieces of Bucky’s past, clues about his alcoholism, the way he handles stress, his difficulties letting Steve in, the love Steve has for him, Bucky’s need to be loved and cared for and his aversion for it, it’s so, so rich. Gah. I love it. (GUH and @buckydunpun​’s ART - just murder me. Thanks.)
The Thor “breakup” scene (Chapter 28): This is the moment I think that many people realized Bucky is not a reliable narrator. Maybe they suspected it before, but this is when it’s very obviously apparent. His entire interpretation of his relationship with Thor is thrown into question. He built a rich fantasy about what they were, holding hands in the grass, all this bullshit, and he could actually say they were boyfriends, which makes complete sense because there were never any stakes. It was always surface. There was never any intimacy except as veteran/soldier friends who had sex, which is about as deep as Bucky can go anyway without getting utterly terrified. 
This is in such stark contrast to Steve, where there is actual intimacy, ongoing demand for more intimacy, and this relationship feels VERY real to Bucky, and it’s very frightening to him. And that’s why he runs from the term “boyfriend” with Steve. It’s all so real. It’s easy to engage with a fake boyfriend. But still, he didn’t deliberately realize he was doing this, so it was devastating to find out the truth of his own self-deception. And to hear that he’s not the kind of guy you settle with, he’s the guy you fuck… wow. But how can you really hate Thor? (I’m sure some of you can but…) He’s a nice guy. Even Bucky knows it. So he’s run from something good and real (Steve) to something good but false (Thor) and then he gets rejected from both. It’s horrible and so self-defeating and so quintessentially Bucky. I love it. 
A Close Second (Spent Brass fic): This whole side fic came together like a glorious dream. I love everything about it. It’s such a wonderful look into their relationship, into their dynamics, into their individual personalities, their idiosyncrasies, so much push-pull between them. Whispers of things that have happened to Bucky in the past, a lack of understanding from Steve, a desire to know, so much affection. Some good sex. I love this SB. But I love all the Spent Brass fics. They are so close to my heart. 
Honorable mention: Bucky’s masturbation scene during his bender (Chapter 32). I had an absolute BLAST writing this. Thanks to @pitchforkcentral86​ for proposing that Bucky’s core sexual/romantic desire is just to be kissed. Dayum. It all unfolded from there. 
Who is the character I think about the most? Bucky. I think because he’s got the most complex history and the most complicated psychology. He’s actually fairly rule-bound in terms of how he operates, but he’s got a lot of back story that explains how he became the way he is, and I spend a lot of time considering what happened to him and how he developed his self-image, his coping strategies, and his ideas about others and the world. I think a lot about his relationship with his parents. I think a LOT about bby Jamie. It’s not because Steve is not important or any less complex. But Bucky’s childhood experiences have shaped him in very specific ways, and I want to make sure that I represent them very thoughtfully. 
Who is my favorite character to write? Bucky. His voice and thought processes come to me more easily than Steve’s. Perhaps in part because of my personal penchant for the word “fuck.” I love writing his perspective, his preferences, his interpretations of situations. I love imagining the way he imagines the world. 
Who is my favorite supporting character? Winnie. I know she’s a very polarizing character, but I have so much affection for her. I think she’s a badass. She joined the military as a female officer back in the 1970s, which is incredible and rough. She kept her maiden name. This is a Southern conservative woman, an Air Force brat, raised by very conservative Southern people in a very conservative Pentecostal church, but she has always had an irrepressible rebellious, feminist badass streak in her even before she knew what feminism was. She might not even define herself as a feminist now. She has always done the best she can under very difficult circumstances, and she loves her kids, even though she sometimes sucks quite badly at mothering them. I love her for her imperfections. 
Favorite topic to research this year: I’ve been really enjoying researching emotionally focused couples therapy, which was developed by Sue Johnson, EdD. I’ve been watching therapy videos of couples going through this and having a wonderful time imaging Bucky and Steve going through something similar with Claire. I don’t think Claire is the strictest adherent to EFT, but I think she’s informed by it. It’s tough, because I’m very used to cognitive behavioral type therapies, so this one has been different to think about writing. I’ve also been really getting into reading about childhood sexual abuse and its effects on boys and men. It’s greatly helped my conceptualization of Bucky and Bucky and Steve’s relationship. I mean, it’s a grim topic, but there have been some fascinating threads in terms of understanding one’s self perception of sexual orientation, etc. and thinking about how Bucky would consider and contextualize his experiences. 
Am I more of a Steve or a Bucky? Hmm. I don’t strongly relate to either, but I think if I had to choose, I’m a bit more of a Steve. I’m pretty expressive of my affection and positive emotions, and I’ll complain about daily life things enough. However, when it comes to major life events that really bother me, I tend to err on the side of not processing them and turning my feelings into headaches and other physical afflictions. In other words, I’m a suppressor of major emotions and events. It’s FINE. I’m FINE. Nothing to see here. But I am definitely not as tidy as Steve, nor as smart, and definitely not as buff or hot. So that’s where most of our similarities end lol. I do eat a lot of tofu though. 
Who would I want to hang out with for a day? I initially thought Rikki, but like @pitchforkcentral86​, think she’s actually too cool and smart for me, and I would probably just make an ass out of myself. I think probably Elektra. I know, this is a left field answer, but it’s one day! To do whatever with anyone! I want to choose someone who’s going to make it worth my while. So many of the characters are either too busy, too rigid, too anxious, too conventional, etc. I would want to run around NYC with Elektra for the day and have drinks with her and Matt afterwards at some weird-ass underground bar. My more infield answer would probably be Hank. I want him to tell me gay stories about gay things. I want to see his apartment. I want to drink coffee with him. I want him to tell me about what the AIDS crisis was like for him. I want to hear about his relationship with Howard. I want all the shit that Bucky takes for granted every day. He can be my fairy godmother any day. 
Who would I want to be friends with? Probably Sharon. She’s one of the most reliable, loyal, and level-headed people in this world. She’s smart, she’s flexible, she rolls with things pretty well but also doesn’t take a ton of bullshit. She also has a good sense of humor about things. I feel like she’s someone I could call with my Zack Morris phone and talk with for hours about all sorts of things. We could also split a bottle of wine and talk some real shit. 
Wait - Why not Bucky or Steve? I don’t think these two are entirely likable, to be honest. They’re good humans, they mean well, but I don’t think they’re very well equipped in the friendship department.  I care about them very deeply (I hope that’s clear), but I don’t know if I’d want to be particularly close to either of them at this point in their lives. They’re both lacking in the skill and perspective to be good friends and partners, which is a major reason why they are in therapy. 
Who would I want to be my therapist - Hope, Bruce, Scott, or Claire? Claire. Given how much I suck at talking about the things that are really deeply bothering me, I think I would need an emotionally focused therapist who is going to dig in there and really get me to focus on all the emotions I’m trying to shove away. I would probably try to over-intellectualize everything and deflect, and I don’t think she’d let me get away with that.

What are my favorite scenes in BW and why? 
Oh boy. Well, this is a difficult question to answer since it feels like every chapter becomes a new favorite simply due to sheer amount of time spent planning and composing and revising and whining and complaining. And also my memory sucks. BUT, with that said, I think I would like to mention three scenes specifically:
1)      Bucky on deployment, cleaning a Humvee (Chapter 7), Steve standing nearby. This scene conveyed the tension of deployment and between Steve and Bucky so well, and, perhaps more importantly, built my respect towards Bucky as a competent, caring NCO (to that effect, the small scene in which we see Bucky the NCO on film telling all the little grunts to eat so they can become big and strong is another favorite).
2)      Beautiful Boy (Spent Brass), Steve’s memory from childhood with Sarah at the park, naming animals. I really don’t have a good reason other than that scene was so clear to me in my mind and was especially tender.
3)      Steve sleeping with Sharon in DC (Chapter 33). Honestly, it was just a great scene, and we had a really good time planning it out.
I can include many more, and certainly the ones Dread mentioned are favorites too, but I have to stop or this will just be a squeee fest.
Who is my favorite supporting character?
 Hank. His particular brand of honesty is extremely appealing to me, and I think Bucky secretly, or not so secretly, loves him too. And also Quill, just for shits and giggles because he is reliably there as an ice breaker, that lovable Mountain-Dew-drinking goof.  
Favorite topic to research this year: 
Well, I don’t do the research myself, but I spend many, many m-a-n-y hours listening to and conversing with Dread about all the things he’s delved into for this fic. So I guess maybe I’ll turn this question into favorite topic to discuss/conceptualize. In that respect, Bucky’s and Jack’s relationship has been by far the most intriguing, grueling, fascinating and difficult aspect of this fic to conceptualize – those were some of the best talks in the process. [Dreadnought edit: You will see much more of this in future chapters, folks!] And for a fun answer, planning out sex scenes is hilarious.
Am I more of a Steve or Bucky?
Bucky, no doubt. Sometimes it feels like Dread has climbed into my brain, found a horrible nugget of truth about me, and then put it into words coming out of Bucky’s mouth. Those moments are both wonderful and terrible in equal measure.
Who would I want to hang out with for a day?
For a whole day? Can it maybe be a coffee or, like, a quick lunch? I honestly don’t know… Neither Steve nor Bucky will be very good company, I think. Not in their current versions, anyways. Rikki is hella cool but she intimidates me, so, not her. Um.. Huh. Nope, don’t have an answer.
Who would I want to be friends with?
Probably Hank, again. He has a really good attitude. I’m starting to feel like not picking Steve/Bucky is selfish because it’s like “oh, they have too many issues and it won’t be fun”. But it’s also true! Friendship is reciprocal, and I really don’t think that’s where they’re at. (But I would have totally been dying to be friends with Steve in his bookshop days). 
Who would I want to be my therapist - Hope, Bruce, Scott, or Claire?
Hope or Claire. Both are no-nonsense competent therapists. But I think maybe Hope will be too put-together for me. So, yeah, probably Claire.

Contains some spoilers for the current Living World
1: List five basic facts about your OC.
Liana is a Magister of the Durmond Priory, the Pact Commander, and Leader of Dragon’s Watch
While her backstory does involve the Lost Parents storyline for humans, instead of being taken back to Divinity’s Reach, Liana is found by a traveling Shaman of Raven and taken to Hoelbrak.
She suffers from astraphobia. It probably doesn’t help that the night her birth parents died at the hands of the White Mantle, there had been a pretty big thunderstorm occurring.
She set out for Kryta at the age of 17 to try and learn more about her family, arriving just as the centaurs attacked Shaemoor.
She is definitely known for her bizarre appetite, much to the chagrin of her adoptive brother Hjalmar. (you can imagine he flipped when he found out she consumed toxic-cured bacon)

The corner of Liana’s mouth twitched into a smirk as she finished off the remains of her breakfast. “Honestly, I think I was more scared of Gixx then I was of the shades or the possibility of the entire mountain coming down upon our heads. Asura can be downright intimidating when they’re mad.”

Gaaaaaah……..for both three and four, I’m afraid I don’t have enough chapters in my fanfic to have snippets that could fully answer those. Real life and work managed to get in the way before I had a chance to expand beyond three chapters, but thankfully now I’m feeling the spark for creativity return, so I’ll definitely try to get a chapter out as soon as possible!
5: Describe your OC’s physical appearance.
Liana is fairly tall, standing at roughly 5′7′‘. She has amber brown eyes and she has a warm brown complexion with golden undertones. She has dark brown hair that is almost always worn in an undercut style with a few braids on the left side, although since her return from the Land of the Lost, she now has a white streak running through it as well. She has a large scar stretching from her collarbone down past her stomach from where Balthazar had killed her, and recently a bolt shaped scar surrounded by burns has added itself across her chest from Bangar’s attempt on her life.
6: Describe your OC’s love life.
Liana has no experience when it comes to romance, the most she knows coming from romance novels. Around the time of Living World 3, she realizes she has romantic feelings for Braham Eirsson, but then the events in Bitterfrost Frontier occur. After A Bug In The System, however, Braham reveals he had harbored attraction towards Liana as well when the two find the time to talk. They both decide it would be best to reconcile and become friends again before determining if they were both ready for a romantic relationship. Sometime between A Star to Guide Us and All or Nothing is when the two decide to become lovers.
7: Describe your OC’s fashion sense.
Given how the Commander hardly gets any rest, Liana is usually in leather armor a majority of the time. She has a few select pieces for fancy occasions, but she tends to prefer armor that’s easy to move in and offers the best protection. On the rare occasions she does have some downtime, she tends to be a person who prefers dressing for comfort, usually favoring colors like blues and greens.She does have a few fancy party dresses she really likes that Kasmeer helped her pick out, but sadly, she hasn’t been able to find the time to wear them as of yet.
8: Describe one of your OC’s bad habits.
Bottling her emotions up. She feels like she has to remain strong for everyone and not show any signs of faltering. Thankfully, with the support of friends and a professional, she’s starting to get better at dealing with emotions in a more healthy way.
9: Your OC is having a nightmare. What is it?
A lot of her nightmares tend to be centered around people that have died: Sieran, Apatia, Kekt, Eir, and most recently General Soulkeeper.
These nightmares almost always revolve around her reliving their deaths, usually finding herself frozen as she witnesses them sacrificing themselves to save others (Sieran and Apatia) or she’s trying to prevent their death from occurring only for their demise to still come about (Kekt and Eir).
As far as the death of General Soulkeeper, it alternates between seeing it through Ryland’s eyes after she viewed it in the Eye of the North’s vision pool or she’s witnessing it from a third person point of view.
10: You are conducting a ritual. What 5 items would you need to summon your OC?
Pizza, a harlequin romance novel, chocolate, a stuffed wolf plush, and fire orchids (her favorite flower)
11: What does your OC want for their birthday?
Arrows are always good to have, although she would really love to have a collection of stories from different parts of Tyria.
12: What does your OC give another OC for their birthday?
She’d try to look in to see if there’s something they’d been really wanting for a while. If she’s unable to do that, she’ll usually try to make them something, either a small carving or a drawing.
13: Describe your OC’s living situation.
For awhile she lived in the Great Lodge in Hoelbrak, but recently she’s usually made camp where she ends up. As of now, she’s currently residing in a side room within the Eye of the North.
14: What is one of your OC’s secrets?
She can’t dance at all.
15: Your OC is given the chance to go back in time. Where do they go and what do they do?
This is a bit of a tough one. If she had to narrow it down, though, she’d probably go back to try and warn Trahearne about Mordremoth before the Pact Fleet had a chance to leave for the jungle. Even though she’s forever grateful for Guenhwyvar’s aid in fighting the Jungle Dragon, she wishes there could have been a way to prevent so much loss of life.
16: If your OC could have any superpower, which would it be and why?
I guess in a way her soulbeast abilities count as a superpower. I feel like she would love the ability to make portals though to make traveling from place to place during dire situations a hell of a lot easier, though.
17: How does your OC do during the zombie apocalypse?
She’d probably do well. She has some fairly good skills when it comes to surviving and hunting. She may want to curb back a bit on eating random things she finds, though.
18: What is your OC’s dream job?
Liana has decided that once the Elder Dragons are dealt with and she’s able to hang up her mantle as Commander, she plans to open a lodge of her own to run and possibly raise skyscales.
19: Your OC’s life is a musical. What’s the title of their big show-stopping song?
Not sure what sort of tune it would have, but it would probably be called “We’re Cancelling the Apocalypse.”

THE HUNDRED-RISK COMPANY MANAGEMENT COMPANY
It's so common for both a and b to be true of a successful startup that practically all do raise outside money. Prediction is usually all we have to rely on other defenses. When you're running a startup is the opinion of other investors. Successful startups either get bought or grow into big companies.1 If you're ramen profitable this painful choice goes away.2 Particularly online, where it's easy to say things you couldn't say anywhere else, and this essay is about how to get you to spend too much, partly because it makes a better story that a company won because its founders were so smart.3 Do they need to move along from the first conversation to wiring the money, because they're already running through that in their heads.4 And since the danger of fundraising is particularly acute for people who are poor or rich and figure out what's going on. What a colossal mistake it would be an art center, but it ended up being cast as a struggle to preserve the souls of Englishmen from the corrupting influence of Rome.
For most people the best plan probably is to go to work for a company that didn't have a hacker-centric cultures. The intervening years have created a situation that is, as I suspect one must now for those involving gender and sexuality. Most employees' work is tangled together.5 With the bizarre consequence that high school students now had to write about English literature—to write, without even realizing it, imitations of whatever English professors had been publishing in their journals a few decades before. My advice is, don't say it.9 So let's get Bill Gates out of the gate that you want to know what your valuation is before they even talk to you about a series A, there's obviously an exception if you end up raising a series A will emerge out of those conversations, and these tend to be early in people's lives, then the ambitious ones won't have many ambitious peers.
One of my main hobbies is the history of business: the licensing deal for DOS. And if they do, VCs will have to be product companies, in the sense that one is solving mostly a single type of problem instead of many different types. Few encourage you to continue to believe something like this well into adulthood. You just can't fry eggs or cut hair fast enough.10 Good hackers care a lot about where to live.11 So they must be a media company to throw Microsoft off their scent. But by that time, not points. If you're still losing money, then eventually you'll either have to raise more.12 Cadillac of cars in about 1970. Fortunately for startups, big companies are extremely good at denial.
No matter who you pick, they'll find faces engaging. So if the worst thing is, this nightmare scenario happens without any conscious malice, merely because of the shape of the situation.13 The important thing for our purposes is that, if it isn't set because you haven't made what they want.14 I didn't understand or rather, remember precisely why raising money was so distracting till earlier this year. Except books—but books are different. But by definition you don't care; the initial offer was acceptable. Unless you're experienced enough at fundraising to have a plan. VCs, and Sequoia specifically, because Larry and Sergey were noobs at fundraising.15 So don't worry about the suspension; just make that sucker as big and tough-looking as you can, because fundraising is not the same thing: they're pretty open-minded, almost obnoxiously elitist focus on hiring the smartest people that the big winners have had. This isn't just because smart people actively work to find holes in conventional thinking. The most likely source of examples is math.
But that wasn't the worst problem. It's like the court of Louis XIV. Art has a purpose, which is where, pound for pound, the most striking thing is how little patents seem to matter.16 To launch a taboo, a group has to be type A fundraising. It's the nature of fashion to be invisible. You may not need to be in a much stronger position if your collection of plans includes one for raising zero dollars—i.17 This was too subtle for me.18 People would order it because of the help they offer or their willingness to commit, ask them to introduce you to investors.19
But this will change if enough startups choose SF over the Valley. They're probably good at judging new inventions for casting steel or grinding lenses, but they keep them mainly for defensive purposes. At level 4 we reach the first form of convincing disagreement: counterargument.20 No, except yes if you turn out to be a compulsive negotiator.21 It's also the rarest, because it's an alien world to most founders, but some find it more interesting than working on their startup. Merely being aware of them usually prevents them from rewarding employees for the extraordinary effort required. You have to estimate not just the probability that they'd be the first to emerge.22 Because the main way to spend money on stuff. In fact they were more law schools. I'm not going to apply for patents just because everyone else does. Hello friends, we continue our journey through college football’s three-way rivalry trophies. So far we’ve taken a look at the Florida Cup and the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy and what would have happened if they had been on the line for the entire history of those rivalries.

Now we’re heading out West to the great state of Utah to examine one of the most unique trophies in the sport: the Beehive Boot. The Boot is given to the best team in the state, and has been contested every year from 1971 to 2016.
I’m hoping to raise a bit of awareness about the trophy as well. It hasn’t been awarded for the past few seasons with no real good reason. Utah’s cancellation of the Utah State rivalry and general fan disinterest seem to be the most likely culprits.
The rules are pretty simple. The team with the highest record among in-state opponents wins the Boot. If the three teams tie in the standings with 1-1 records against each other, it goes to a vote by Utah’s sports media. For some reason, each time it goes to a media vote, Utah State gets awarded the trophy. I’m not sure if that’s a feature or a bug in the system, but I do think it’s kind of a funny quirk that helps out the Aggies who otherwise would be well behind their in-state rivals.
Initially, Weber State was allowed to compete for and win the Boot, but the Wildcats never won and games against WSU stopped counting in the standings following the ‘82 season. To simplify things, I won’t be counting Weber State at all because, well, they really are nonfactors when you get down to it.
So, what if the Beehive Boot was on the line going right back to the beginning of the rivalries? Let’s find out.

The Battle of the Brothers Round 1 (Armstrong vs Romney): 1922-1949
Our story begins in 1922, the year BYU re-started their football program. Utah and Utah State (then Utah Agricultural College) were already well established rivals and had played for just over 20 years when the Cougars joined the stage. The Utes and Aggies were each other’s end of season rivals and the Battle of the Brothers was easily the most important game in the state.
BYU joined the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, joining Utah and Utah Agricultural in the league. For the next several decades, the Cougars would play the Utes in mid-October, almost always in Salt Lake City. The UAC game was usually played in late-October or early-November on a more equal home and home basis.
Leading up to 1922, Utah Agricultural had gotten the best of Utah the previous several years. The Aggies were led by legendary coach Dick Romney, who was hired in 1919 and would lead the team for the next 30 seasons. UAC was an above average team in the 20′s, winning the conference in 1921, and traded wins with the Utes for most of the decade. The Aggies wouldn’t lose to BYU until their 8th contest in 1929.
In 1922, Utah won their only RMAC conference title under Thomas Fitzpatrick, who lasted another two middling seasons before being replaced by Ike Armstrong. Armstrong was a transformative head coach for the Utes, who would go on to be the most dominant program in the Mountain States for the next two decades.
In 1926, just one year after his hiring, Armstrong led the Utes to the conference championship. It was the first of eight titles in nine years as Utah won the RMAC every season from 1928 to 1933. The Utes went undefeated three straight years from 1928-30, and wouldn’t lose a conference game for five seasons from ‘28-’32.
Utah absolutely dominated their rivals in this span. After falling to UAC in 1925, the Utes wouldn’t lose again until 1936. Following BYU’s reestablishment of their program in 1922, Utah obliterated the Cougars for two decades before finally losing to them for the first time in 1942.
BYU was a bottom feeder in their early years. The Cougars wouldn’t find a competent coach until Ott Romney came to Provo in 1928, and Romney only managed moderate success compared to Utah or UAC. The best BYU could manage in this era was a 2nd place finish in the RMAC in 1932.
The newly rebranded Utah State experienced a brief resurgence in 1935-36. The Aggies won the RMAC in back to back seasons and beat the Utes for the first time in a decade. Dick Romney’s squad remained strong for most of the 30′s, but began to fall off by the turn of the decade.
All three schools jumped ship from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference into the new Skyline Conference in 1938. It was at this time Utah bounced back to being the top dogs. The Utes had a bit of a slide in the mid-30′s, but from 1938 to 1942 they won another four league championships.
BYU remained a thoroughly unimpressive team in the 30′s and 40′s, only daring to finish 2nd place in their new home in the Skyline twice under head coach Eddie Kimball. 
The Second World War threw a monkey wrench into things for a few years. The Cougars disbanded their football team following the 1942 season. It probably set their program back a few years, which wasn’t great considering they just beat Utah for the first time ever. Utah State missed 1943, but was back to the gridiron the next year only to get stomped by their rivals.
The longstanding 30 year battle between Armstrong’s Utes and Romney’s Aggies went out on a high note in the late 1940′s. Utah State beat their archrivals on the way to a Skyline championship in 1946. Utah then beat USU in 1947 and 1948 to claim two back to back league titles. Romney retired following the 1948 season and Armstrong hung up his clipboard the following year. Both of them remain the winningest coaches in their respective program’s histories.

Beehive Boot Record Utah: 17 Utah State: 9 BYU: 1
So, about the Boot. Had if been given away going all of the way back to 1922, here’s how the first few decades would have shaken out.
Not surprisingly, Utah totally dominated the first 30 years of the Beehive Boot. The Utes (renamed the Redskins in 1940) completely owned BYU and got the better of Utah State way more often than not.
There were several ties, which I dutifully gave to the Aggies because I’m imagining whatever strange mechanism gave USU the Boot (media bias) from the 70′s on would still exist back in the 20′s. And also because there’s no better way to solve ties. To be clear, this does go a long way to keeping Utah State respectable in this era. The Aggies had a few outright wins but those tiebreakers helped a lot.
BYU and Utah were tied with 1-0-1 records for the 1941 and I have to imagine that the Cougars get the media nod in this situation. I mean, come on, you gotta take pity on them at some point. 20 years into the Boot and not winning it a single time. Just let ‘em have it.

The Battle of the Brothers Round 2 (1950-1974)
It must have been daunting to fill the shoes of the illustrious Ike Armstrong, but Jack Curtice did a fine job. Following a tough transition year in 1950, the Redskins reeled off three straight conference titles and added another in 1957. Cactus Jack was undefeated against BYU (with one tie) and only lost once to Utah State in eight years.
It was also daunting replacing Dick Romney in Logan, but that transition wasn’t as smooth. Utah State breezed through 4 head coaches during the 1950′s, not hanging on to any longer than 4 years.
BYU was also replacing their coach in 1949, but nobody really cared. The Cougars plodded along, continuing their legacy as the worst program in the state. BYU was led for seven years in the 50′s by Chick Atkinson, but he only managed an 18-49-3 record before being replaced. Hal Kopp managed a winning record in Provo in 1957 and 1958 but was forced to resign after recruiting violations began to surface and the Cougars fell right back into the gutter.
Jack Curtice left Utah following the ‘57 season and was replaced by Ray Nagel. Nagel kept up the winning ways but the Redskins were finally displaced atop the Skyline standings by their in-state rivals up North.
In 1959, Utah State hired John Ralston to turn the program around. The Aggies had spent a decade in the wilderness following Romney’s retirement, but Ralston quickly got things going once again. After a calibration season in 1959, USU went 26-5-1 from 1960-62, winning two Skyline Conference titles. In ‘61, Utah State went 9-0-1 in the regular season, and after beating Utah in the Battle of the Brothers, leapt all the way up to 10th in the polls before losing to Baylor in the Gotham Bowl.
Utah State may have remained the second best team in the state forever after, but two enormous events changed everything in 1962. One, a short term problem, and another would have long term consequences lasting until this very day. The former was the departure of John Ralston, who had led the revival of the Aggies fortunes, the second was the formation of the WAC.
Following the dissolution of the Pacific Coast Conference in 1958, there were talks for several years about cobbling together a newer, better football conference across the Mountain States and the Pacific Northwest. Oregon, Oregon State, and Washington State all bailed when the reconstituted AAWU (soon to be PAC-8) threw them a lifeline, but the idea held fast.
BYU AD (and former head coach) Eddie Kimball spearheaded the effort to take the top halves of the Border Conference (Arizona, ASU, New Mexico) and Skyline Conference (Utah, Wyoming, and BYU) and merge them into one entity. The Cougars, of course, weren’t actually in the top half of the Skyline Conference and never had been, but they greased the wheels and were well rewarded despite never delivering the goods in football.
Utah State applied for membership alongside New Mexico State, but both were rejected. It started a long, slow, and painful decline for both programs that neither has ever recovered from.
A few years prior, in 1968, saw another blow to the Aggies’ program. Despite finally playing Utah on a relatively equal basis in Salt Lake City and Logan, the Utes decided to downgrade the Battle of the Brothers in favor of the Holy War. From now on the Holy War was going to be the end of season game, with Utah State relegated to early/mid November.
With the Skyline Conference abolished, the Aggies were forced into football independence. USU didn’t fall off at first. In fact they did quite well for themselves initially. Tony Knap guided the Aggies through their early years going 25-14-1 and a combined 5-3 against Utah and BYU in four years, but left for the CFL following the 1966 season. USU remained a solid program under Chuck Mills in the late 60′s and early 70′s, but back to back 8-3 seasons in 1971-72 drew Mills away to Wake Forest. Phil Krueger led the team as head coach for three more successful seasons before heading to the NFL as Tampa Bay’s OC.
Utah initially had a bit of trouble adjusting to the slightly more competitive WAC, but by their third year in the new league the Redskins won the conference and the Liberty Bowl. Ray Nagel left for Iowa the following season and was replaced less successfully by Mike Giddings and then by Bill Meek. By this point, Arizona and especially Arizona State began to dominate the conference, and the Redskins were left to scramble for third place, which they still attained with regularity.
The increase in competition did nothing to help BYU’s lot. The Cougars struggled to achieve mediocrity in the weaker Skyline Conference and rarely achieved that in their first few years in the WAC. Tommy Hudspeth replaced Hal Mitchell as head coach in 1964, and achieved a surprising conference title in the following season, but BYU once again slipped down the standings.
The Cougars had been worse, but they’d also never really been any good. 50 years after restarting their program in 1922 and BYU had little to show for it. You’d forgive somebody in 1972 if they imagined the next 50 years would go the same way, but that’s not quite what happened.

Beehive Boot Record Utah: 29 Utah State: 19 BYU: 4
It might not be quite as bad as you had imagined. Utah still led the pack in this era, but not by too wide of a margin. The Redskins won 12 Beehive Boots from 1950 to 1974 to Utah State’s 10, with just one tie giving the Aggies a boost in this time frame.
BYU won the Boot in 1958, giving them their first outright championship. The Cougars earned another pity tie in 1950, although Utah probably should have won the Boot that year all things considered. The whole media vote thing makes this all a guess on my part so if you want you can give it to Utah.
The Battle of the Brothers still defined the Beehive Boot in this era, despite the best efforts of both the Redskins and Cougars to sideline the Aggies. Utah definitely got the better of USU from 1950-1964, winning the Boot 10 times in 15 years. The Aggies did much better from the mid-60′s to the mid-70′s, winning 9 Boots to Utah’s 4.
The “real” Beehive Boot was first awarded following the 1971 season, going to USU, who would end up winning the first four straight. But everything would change in the 1975 season and forever altered the balance of power in the state of Utah.

The Age of Edwards (1975-2000)
LaVell Edwards was hired in 1972 to replace the departed Tommy Hudspeth as the head coach in Provo. Edwards had been an assistant at BYU under Hudspeth for several years before his promotion. I’m not sure if his talent was manifest from the beginning, but he got the ball rolling early.
In his first year, the Cougars went 7-4, which was their best record in 8 seasons. Following a down year in 1973, BYU won the WAC title for the first time in a decade. The Cougars experienced another downturn in 1975, but things were about to change.
Brigham Young was already pointing in the right direction, but in 1978 Arizona and Arizona State left the WAC for the newly rechristened PAC-10. With the Wildcats and most especially the Sun Devils out of the league, the path was now wide open for a new team to take over and BYU filled that slot perfectly.
BYU took off starting in 1976. The Cougars tied Wyoming and ASU for the conference title in ‘76 and ‘77 respectively, but then won the WAC outright for eight straight seasons. BYU attended 7 consecutive Holiday Bowls from 1978-1984 and finished in the final polls seven times in the nine years from 1977 to 1985.
The rise was easy to chart. The Cougars won nine games in three consecutive seasons from 1976 to 1978, this was already a new high water mark for the program but it was then quickly replaced. BYU went 11-0 in 1979 before losing to Indiana in the Holiday Bowl. The next year they ascended to 12-1 with a win over #14 SMU in the postseason. An 8-4 “reset” year in 1982 preceded the Cougars’ absolute apex. In 1983, BYU lost to Baylor in week 1 then went undefeated through the rest of the season to end up 11-1 and 7th in the final polls, their highest ranking ever.
In 1984, the Cougars began the year by beating #3 Pittsburgh at Pitt Stadium and absolutely shredding the rest of the teams they faced. Brigham Young climbed up to #3 in the polls leading into the Holy War. An easy win over Utah and losses by Nebraska and South Carolina pushed the Cougars to the #1 spot. A win over Utah State to end the season and then a victory over Michigan in the Holiday Bowl sealed BYU’s improbable national championship.
In 1985, the Cougars went 11-3 with a 7-10 loss to Ohio State the Citrus Bowl to round out their incredible decade of achievement. The script had completely flipped. Lowly Brigham Young now stood atop its two rivals and had won a national championship to boot.
Utah had seen a bitter reversal in the rivalry and lost 19 of 21 games in the Holy War from 1972 to 1992. The team, thankfully renamed the Utes once more, hired Tom Lovat in 1974 to replace the competent Bill Meek, but things spiraled out of control. Lovat was fired after going 5-28 in three seasons. His replacement, Wayne Howard, only took two years to right the ship, but by then the damage was done and Utah was in a clear secondary role in the rivalry. Howard’s Utes managed to upset Brigham Young in 1978, but the Cougars creamed Utah the next two years and Howard resigned despite an 8-2-1 record in 1981.
The Utes plodded through the 80′s under Chuck Stobart and Jim Fassel mired in mediocrity, which was more or less the same story as Utah State.
The Aggies joined the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (precursor to the Big West) in 1977, and head coach Bruce Snyder won them two conference championships in 1978-79. Snyder left for the NFL following the ‘82 season and was replaced by Chris Pella, who finally dropped the ball in Logan. USU had been able to compete with their now much bigger and more important rivals thanks to several coaches who could punch above their weight. But once that momentum stalled, it never came back.
From the 1980′s onwards, Utah State would clearly be the little brother to BOTH Utah and BYU. The Aggies were slowly being relegated by both rivals, and their games against both universities was creeping earlier and earlier in the season to less desirable calendar dates.
USU treaded water through most of the 80′s and 90′s, struggling to stay above .500 for the most part under Chuck Shelton. Charlie Weatherbie won a Big West title in 1993 before heading to Navy despite an overall 15-19 record over three seasons in Logan. John L. Smith won two Big West titles in 1996-97, but by then the league was dying and going 6-5 was all it took to win a championship.
The 90′s saw an even greater focus on the Holy War as Utah began to reassert themselves under Ron McBride. McBride was hired in 1990 and after a year one mulligan he got the Utes back to their winning ways. A breakthrough 10-2 campaign in 1994 was followed up by a shared WAC title in 1995, a win in the Holy War forcing a four-way tie between BYU, Air Force, and Colorado State.
After a brief lull in the late-80′s, the Cougars went right back to their utter dominance of the WAC in the 90′s. Brigham Young won five consecutive titles from 1989-1993 and seven championships in eight years culminating in the ‘96 season. In 1996, BYU finished the season an incredible 14-1 with a win over Kansas State in the Cotton Bowl and a #5 ranking.
In its 35 year history, the WAC had grown from a six team league of the best regional Mountain States programs (and BYU) into a 16 team behemoth of a superconference (now led by BYU) stretching from Honolulu to Houston. Many of its oldest members though that the venerable league had to now be trimmed down to cut out some of the fat.
Once again spearheaded by BYU and Utah, a new conference was born, pulling 8 of the best WAC programs to create the Mountain West. The new Mountain West conference first played ball in 1999, and wouldn’t you know it, the Utes beat their archrivals in the Holy War to force a three-way tie in the standings with BYU and Colorado State.
LaVell Edwards retired following the 2000 season. His 257-101-3 record stands as a testament to his program-building powers. His legacy supersedes Dick Romney, Ike Armstrong, or any of the other coaches in Utah state history.

Beehive Boot Record Utah: 35 BYU: 23 Utah State: 21
National Championships BYU: 1
BYU completely dominated the Beehive Boot between 1975-2000. The Cougars won the trophy 18 times in 26 years, easily the most dominant stretch by any team in a near 30 year span. The Cougars are still well behind Utah in the all-time standings due to the Utes’ huge lead, but BYU vaulted over Utah State by 2000, erasing their huge deficit in the standings and never looking back.
The Utes managed to stick their finger in the Cougars’ eye in from 1993-95, but could almost never beat BYU otherwise. Utah State was only able to manage two charity trophy victories by getting the media vote with the standings tied in 1982 and 1997.
The Holy War was now well established as the #1 rivalry in the state, and it sucked up all the oxygen in the 90′s as the Utes began to challenge the Cougars for dominance. The Battle of the Brothers was rather noncompetitive with Utah clearly dominating outside of a few upsets here and there. One worrying sign in the BYU-USU rivalry came in 1995 and 1998, when the Cougars neglected to schedule the Aggies. It was a bad omen for the future of all three rivalry games and the Beehive Boot itself.
One thing that I want to mention before I move on is about BYU’s utter domination of the Western Athletic Conference. The Cougars were a more dominant force in the WAC than Alabama was in the SEC or Michigan or Ohio State was to the Big Ten. The only major conference analog is probably USC to the PAC-12 back in the day. Brigham Young won 19 WAC titles from 1964 to 1998. The conference continued sponsoring football for another 15 years following BYU’s departure and the Cougars still doubled all other teams in the number of league championships. BYU was the WAC and LaVell Edwards was BYU, you gotta give them credit where it’s due.

The Modern Era: 2001-2019
The retirement of LaVell Edwards meant that BYU was looking for their first coach in a quarter century. They tasked Chicago Bears OC Gary Crowton with the job. The initial reports were better than anyone could imagine. The Cougars blew their way through the Mountain West in 2001, climbing all the way to #9 in the AP and a 12-0 record before falling to Hawaii in their final game of the season. A loss to Louisville in the Liberty Bowl knocked them all the way down to a final #25 ranking and a 12-2 record, but that’s still one hell of a first year.
It didn’t last. In a dramatic fall from grace, Brigham Young suffered three straight losing seasons from 2002 to 2004, two more than they had suffered in LaVell Edwards’ entire career. Crowton was summarily fired for this extreme dropping of the ball and replaced by Bronco Mendenhall, who had served as Crowton’s DC.
Mendenhall righted the ship, and BYU returned to their winning ways. The Cougars went 11-2 in three of four seasons from 2006 to 2009 and won two Mountain West championships in that span.
Utah’s fate mirrored BYU’s in the 2000′s. The Utes were starting to falter in the early 2000′s and Ron McBride, who’d brought the program back from mediocrity, was fired following the 2002 season after his second losing record in three years.
McBride was replaced by a bright up and comer named Urban Meyer. It took Meyer absolutely no time to get things back in order, as Utah went 10-2 in his first year with a Mountain West title to boot. 2004 was even more special, as the Utes obliterated every team they faced en route to a 12-0 campaign. Utah was the first ever BCS Buster, and easily brushed aside #19 Pittsburgh in the Fiesta Bowl to complete their undefeated season. The Utes weren’t lucky enough to claim a national championship for their efforts, but they were now reestablished as a top mid-major program.
Meyer went on to bigger and better things at Florida and was replaced by his DC Kyle Whittingham. After a so-so first few seasons, Whittingham managed to keep the ball rolling again. For the second half of the 2000′s, the Utes were in a constant dogfight with TCU and BYU for Mountain West supremacy and a shot at another BCS Bowl.
Whittingham had his own undefeated season in 2008. Utah bruised their way to a 12-0 record before meeting #4 Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. The Utes shocked the football world by claiming a 31-17 victory over the Crimson Tide and ended the year 2nd in the AP poll behind Urban Meyer’s national champion Florida Gators. Some computers, not to mention some people, think that Utah should at least be crowned co-national champions for the ‘08 season. After all, Florida only beat Alabama 31-20 in the SEC Championship Game.
Utah and BYU were some of the best teams in college football in the 2000′s, their old rival, the third piece of their in-state championship, wasn’t so lucky. Utah State spent the decade in utter anonymity. You’d have thought that Dave Arslanian would have turned things around when he was hired in 1998. Arslanian had guided Weber State successfully for the previous nine seasons, making the I-AA Playoff once back when that was much harder to do. Instead, he was fired after two seasons and a 7-15 record.
Mick Dennehy was brought in to guide USU into the new century, but his 5-6 record in his first season turned out to be his best. Utah State left the crumbling Big West the following year and spent two seasons as an independent once more before landing in the Sun Belt Conference in 2003. The Aggies only managed 3 wins in consecutive seasons in the Sun Belt (ouch) before firing Dennehy.
In 2005 USU joined the WAC, the conference they’d been trying to access for over 40 years. They didn’t exactly prove themselves to be world-beaters. Under head coach Brent Guy, Utah State’s best record from 2005 to 2008 was a 3-8 campaign in ‘05.
A lot of things seemed to all happen at once in 2009 and 2010.
First off, Gary Andersen was hired at Utah State in ‘09. Andersen was Kyle Whittingham’s associate head coach at Utah and the hope was that he could share some of that magic with the Aggies.
Then, Utah accepted a bid to the expanded PAC-12 alongside Colorado. BYU, who had been partnered in the same conference with the Utes since reforming their program in 1922, was completely blindsided. The Cougars had expected to also receive the call up to the big leagues, after all, they’d been nearly as good in the last few seasons and were the ones with the real national championship pedigree. It didn’t happen. Not wanting to be left behind in a mid-major conference, Brigham Young decided to declare themselves football independents and go it alone.
BYU was able to fight upstream as an independent for the first five years. Bronco Mendenhall kept the Cougars averaging 9-4 every season from 2011-2015 but he grew increasingly dissatisfied with BYU’s football independence and left to coach Virginia. Mendenhall’s replacement, Kalani Sitake, has had mixed success. A losing season 2017 has been somewhat forgiven and the Cougars are now averaging about 7-6, but that’s still untenable an untenable record in the long term.
Utah had a rough transition into PAC-12 life. The Utes actually managed an 8-5 record in 2011, nearly winning the South division in their first year in the league, but back to back 5-7 seasons halted any momentum. However, since 2014, Utah has proven to be the most capable winner in the PAC-12 South. The Utes have won or tied for three division titles in the past five years though ultimate conference glory has remained elusive. At least they’ve owned BYU for the last decade. Utah has won the Holy War every year since moving up to the PAC-12.
Most surprisingly, Utah State has reentered the conversation as a force to be reckoned with in the Beehive State. It took Gary Andersen two whole years to clean the decades of rot in Logan, but in 2011 he took the Aggies bowling for the first time since 1997 and beat BYU for the first time since 1993. He did one better in 2012, winning the WAC and beating Utah for the first time since that same ‘97 season. With an 11-2 record and a final #16 ranking, it was the best season Utah State had in at least 40 years.
Matt Wells took over after Andersen bolted for Wisconsin and kept winning. In 2013, Wells’ first season, USU joined the Mountain West, replacing their in-state rivals. Utah State won their division in their very first year. Wells kept the train rolling in Logan, winning 10 games in both 2014 and 2018, which would have been shocking accomplishments just a decade prior. Wells left for Texas Tech following the ‘18 season and was replaced by none other than Gary Andersen, who had lived what seemed an entire football life before coming back to USU.

National Championships BYU: 1
Things have gotten interesting in the last 20 years. Utah and BYU spent the 2000′s in a dogfight for the Beehive Boot. The Utes just barely got the better of the Cougars in the span, outpacing BYU 6-4.
The 2010′s have been even more interesting now that Utah State has returned as a major G5 program. The Aggies have managed to claim five Beehive Boots to Utah’s five in the past 10 years. Yes, four of them go down to ties, but if Utah wanted to win the Boot outright they’d schedule USU again. Utah State has done their bit. USU beat the Utes one of the three times they’ve played since 2011 and are now consistently beating BYU.
I think it’s fair to say that Division I football has never been better in the state of Utah. All three of its top programs are competing at a high level which has never been the case before.
Unfortunately the three rivalries binding Utah, BYU, and Utah State together appear to be fraying. The Cougars began to skip playing the Aggies much more frequently in the 2000′s, the Wagon Wheel wasn’t fought over four times in five years from 2003 to 2007. Things likely would have kept going that way if conference realignment hadn’t changed the situation.
Utah joining the PAC-12 has proven to be a huge threat for the Battle of the Brothers. Back in the Mountain West, the Utes could afford to spend one of their four nonconference games on the Aggies, but now that they only play three non-con games in the PAC-12, AND they have to spend one on BYU, they appear to have all but given up on the USU rivalry. Utah especially seems uninterested in playing USU on a home and home basis, which is definitely what the Aggies would prefer. Utah has played Utah State three times in the last ten years but there are no future games scheduled.
The Holy War has seen its own prestige take a huge hit since Utah moved to the big leagues. The Utes are now playing Colorado at the end of the year in a rather manufactured Thanksgiving rivalry game, relegating the Holy War to September. The hatred hasn’t dissipated, even though the score has become somewhat lopsided lately as Utah has won nine straight over their rivals. The Utes even seem to be threatening the long term viability of the Holy War as a yearly series. They took two years off in 2014-15 while Utah played Michigan, though they were matched up in the Las Vegas Bowl in 2015. The two rivals are scheduled to take another break in 2022-23 while the Utes square off against Florida.
Funny enough, the same conference realignment that killed the Battle of the Brothers and is threatening the Holy War has probably saved the BYU-USU rivalry. Now that the Cougars are an independent, they need to schedule as many games as possible, so Utah State is back on the schedule. What’s more, it’s being played at the end of the season now that the Holy War is getting sidelined by the PAC-12 schedule.
The poor old Beehive Boot, the real life one, seemingly hasn’t survived this transition. With the three rivals playing less and less frequently, the Boot hasn’t even been awarded since 2016 and currently resides somewhere in Salt Lake City.
My intuition tells me that BYU and especially Utah aren’t that interested in giving it away anymore. If the trophy had been awarded up to the present day, the Cougars wouldn’t have won it in a decade. The Utes don’t play Utah State anymore and probably don’t want to give their trophy away to a team that didn’t earn it by beating them. And if the Beehive Boot did go to USU via outright record or media tiebreaker, it’d give the Aggies that much more claim to playing Utah more often. That’s just my conspiracy theory, but I think there’s some truth to it. By my count USU would have won it five times this decade.

Prehistory and Extras: 1982-1921
Oh yeah here are the extras, including the early games in the Battle of the Brothers as well as the first contests between Utah and Brigham Young Academy.
For the record, the Cougars don’t claim the six games they played against Utah from 1896 to 1898, but I’m making the list so I count them.

So in the hypothetical battle for the best team in the state of Utah going back to the beginning, Utah leads by a wide margin, but the Aggies are back to second place. I mean, it helps that BYU didn’t field a team from 1898 to 1922, but hey, you snooze you loose.

Because I think it’s well worth mentioning, here is the record if none of the ties went to Utah State or BYU. Both teams, and especially the Aggies, got a boost from the “media tiebreaker” rule which caused me problems while making this. It’s very arbitrary and its pattern of only awarding the Boot to USU, while hilarious, isn’t actually fair.
Unsurprisingly, Utah State’s numbers get absolutely kneecapped. The Aggies lose 12 whole Boots with their tied title removed. In fact, without the tied titles going to them, USU went from 1974 to 2014 without winning the Boot outright, and even then they only won the Boot in 2014 with a single win over BYU when Utah didn’t play either team.

I don’t know what the future holds for the Beehive Boot. My hope is that Utah and Utah State start playing more regularly and that the PAC-12 gets over itself and starts letting the Holy War get played at the end of the year. That’d go a long way towards restoring all three of the in-state rivalries that compose the Boot. But I don’t think it’s in the cards. The modern game of college football has ruthlessly smoothed over a lot of the rough and strange edges that have made this sport unique. I don’t see the trend reversing any time soon.

Vampire Diaries OC/ Au
Margret Gilbert 
Age: 15 (in season 1)
Height 5'5
Status: Human/Psychic
There's something special about each of the Gilbert siblings. Elena is a Doppelganger, Jeremy is one of the great hunters and Margret? Well, she's a Psychic.

Margret is the middle child of the family. Displacing Jeremy. Who in this world is 13-14 years old. To Margarets 15-16 and Elena's 17-18. Meaning Jeremy is in the 8th grade. Marget is a freshman, and Elena is a Junior. 
Margret begins to develop her psychic power as a young child. It manifests itself in dreams. In which Margret reaches out to other supernatural beings. When she is younger, she is mostly in contact with the close supernatural. So the tomb vampires, Bonnie and her grandmother, and the ghosts that are in mystic falls. 
Her "dreams" are her entering the minds of supernatural, or in the case of the ghosts, Margret slipping her consciousness into the other-side.  As she grows up, her range expands, and she can go into the minds of others while awake. She calls this "daydreaming." 
This is how she finds Enzo in Whitmore. Because she becomes aware of him, he is found much earlier in the series, as he is freed.
In season one, Margret remains unaware of her powers, she assumes she has an overactive imagination. However, Shelia Bennet has told her multiple times that she's something special, "she could just sense it." 
Elena desperate to keep control of her narrative, and her control over the situation has Damon and Stefan compels Jenna, Margret, and Jeremy to forget about vampires. 
As Jeremy is younger than his canon counterpart and in middle school, Vicki is no longer the out of control vampire. It is Logan Fell. He is violently murdered in the Gilbert's home in front of everyone by Damon. Causing the need for the mind erasure. 
The problem is; you can't compel a psychic. Margret is the last to be compelled, she watches as Elena had Jenna and Jeremy's memories altered. She sees how they react and follows their lead. 
In season two, Margret distances herself from Elena. In fact, she begins to hate her. Elena continues to make decisions for everyone else. She tries her best to bring back the memories of her aunt and younger brother. 
She, as the tomb vampires, are released, and Margret sees them. She begins to recognize her own power. Searcing the internet for answers, she begins to train in her ability. She at first believes herself to be a Telepath.  
Her sister is unaware that the compulsion has failed. Margret, after her discovery of her abilities, actively begins trying to get into her sister's head. This does not work for a while. Desperate for her family to know what's going on, Marget steals Elenas Journal and has both Jenna and Jeremy read it. 
They are understandable, furious. Jenna even goes as far as transferring the house deed out of Elena's name and into Johns. ( When he later dies, the deed is transferred to Jenna) Believing that since the man was never around, no one could be invited in. They confront Elena, who acts like she did the right thing and like they were in the wrong because they stole and read her diary. This causes a massive rift within the family. Elena moves out of the House into the boarding house for a good portion of this season. 
When the device that harms the supernatural goes off, Margret can hear it, but she, like Bonnie, is not affected by it. 
Margret begins to develop a more positive relationship with Bonnie after her discovery. She views bonnie as a person who can help her train her powers. ( She finds out Bonnie is a witch from Elena's journal, which kinda enrages bonnie. I mean come on this is vital info that's just laying around.) The two bond of the years, over their general dislike of Damon and Vampires in general. 
When John comes to town, he is shocked to know that everyone is aware of the supernatural secrete. He's angry that Jenna is letting Elena stay with Vampires but also understands all their anger. He helps Jenna procure more vervain and introduces her to the council, in which she takes her place. John is the one who convives Elena to move back in at home. 
For Margret, John is a tough person to get a read off of. She can feel his emotion and intent, but for some reason, she cannot hear his thoughts. This is also the case with Bill Forbes and Elijah and Finn Mikelson.
Even though Marget does not like Damon, she does inform him of Enzo. This is a side venture they take. Margret has known about Enzo since she was 12 years old. She just didn't think he was real until she was 15. 
Margaret's abilities come to light to everyone sometime between Kathrine killing Caroline and Elena being Kidnapped by Rose and Trevor. Elena is the last person to know that her sister has some kind of power. Bonnie knowing first then Jenna, John, and Jeremy. 
Elena is upset that she is the last person to find out. But Margert is still angry at Elena for trying to have their memories taken from them. This is a grudge that Marget will hold onto for the rest of her life. She and Elena never have a close sisterly bond again. But this does not mean that Margret wishes Elena Ill. In fact, Margert will go above and beyond to help Elena. 
By the time the Originals get to town, Margret has expanded her Psychic reading range and learned some new tricks. Because she has trained with Bonnie, she can do something that looks familiar. Margret can induce splitting headaches, not unlike the aneurisms, Bonnie delivers. She also learned how to project herself. After learning that she was talking to ghosts but unaware of it, Bonnie helps her learn how to do this on purpose. 
During Season 3, Margret combats the originals on multiple occasions. She is mistaken as a witch by them because her favorite move is head-splitting. 
She also meets the original siblings before anyone else. First, hoping into Kol's dreams, then Finns and finally Rebbecas. So everyone is aware of who they are before they are even introduced. Although try as she might, Margret cannot see or get into the final sealed coffin. 
Margret and Bonnie both have a better relationship with Kol then they do in cannon. In fact, he teaches them both Possession. Mistakenly thinking that Margret is a witch.
Margret is a conundrum for the entire family. They all try and figure out where she gets her witch blood from. Tracing the Gilbert family tree and finding nothing. The Mikealsons eventually get sidetracked and leave it be. The general consensus, though, is that Margret is a power Mental Powered Witch. 
When Stefan and Klaus leave town, Margret can keep track of where and what they are doing. This helps the gang keep calmer than in canon. Although Margret eventually stops reporting to Elena, because she wants her sister to work through her feelings. Margret thinks that the updates are giving her too much hope and that Elena needs to stop hearing about Stefan to get over him. ( This does not work)
Margaret's impact on the story is significant. She acts as a forewarning system; she can spy on enemies, look for information and secretes and get them; no one seems to be able to block her out. She can go to the other side and spy on people across the country. 
By the end of TVD Margret powers are

Projection /World Slipping( She can see into the Otherside and Pocket Dimensions )

Margret never turns into a vampire. She spends her life as a human. She ended up teaching at the Salvatore School. Which is not named that, but both Damon and Stefan are highly honored. 
Margret goes on to have three children, all boys. Who inherits her psychic abilities. Neither Jeremy, Jenna, or Elena's children end up having Psychic powers. Only Margarets line. Margret dies at the age of 97.

Given that this was something I did on my awilliamswrites blog I don’t feel comfortable tagging people again to pass it on, but I will say thank you again to @pens-swords-stuff for tagging me!
Rules: Answer the following questions for one of your characters and then tag others to answer the same questions for their OCs.
I’ll do my latest OC, who is Llewellyn from my WIP The Rebel King.
1.     What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
Intelligence and manipulation. I knew I wanted him to be able to talk himself out of any situation and maneuver himself into the most advantageous positions and look awesome doing it.
2. Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?
Not from their universe, no. However, I’d re-read The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner recently at the time I created him and I was definitely inspired by Eugenides. I wish I could write someone as cool as him, but I knew I wanted to do something a bit different too. (Because plagiarism is bad and if Llewelyn weren’t original in some way then why write him?)
3. How did you choose their name?
I like to do genealogy and I have Irish and Welsh ancestry. I’ve always wanted to use an ancestor’s name in a book and I liked the sound of that name so that’s what I chose.
4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world that they live in played the most influential parts?
Hmm, the history of his family and the gods and goddesses. (Genealogy y’all, it’s my thing. Well, plus writing.) Llewelyn is a prince because about 10 or so generations back his ancestors invaded the country he’s now a part of and became their ruling class. However, they also got rid of the local religion (minor spoilers, some of this is revealed in chapter 2) which angered one of the goddesses pretty badly and she cursed his family. His family’s rule has never been peaceful and prosperous (it might be one or the other, but never both) and by the time Llewelyn is alive the country relies pretty heavily on a neighboring empire for food, protection, etc. So he is a prince of a poor country that never seems to have good luck and knows it, which has made him grow up both ambitious and wary.
5. Is there any significance behind their hair color?
No.
6. Is there any significance behind their eye color?
Again, no.
7. Is there any significance behind their height?
Sort of. In the first chapter he’s shorter than he used to be. (read and find out).
8. What, if anything, do you relate to within their character/story?
He’s quite analytical, and I am too.
9. Are they based off of you in some way?
A little bit, yeah. This is my first time writing a male character. Usually I write female characters who are based off of me, but with Llewelyn he isn’t nearly as much. The only thing that I’ve consciously decided was that since I have no idea how a guy thinks, I’d just have him analyze situations similar to how I do and hope that that makes him a believable character. So, like I said in what I relate to, his analytical skills are based off of my own. He’s much better at staying cool under pressure though. My brain tends to stop working so well when I’m stressed, so he can assess and deal with situations at times where my mind would be blanking.
Oh, and he’s bad at keeping his emotions off of his face. I just remembered that I put that in there too, and that’s how I am as well.
10. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?
Yeah, he’s straight. Romance isn’t going to be a big part of the plot though. I’m not yet comfortable with writing a guy, much less a guy in love!
11. What have you found to be the most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art; writing, drawing, edits, ect.)?
Y’know, I haven’t even thought about doing this? My visual imagination isn’t super clear though, so I don’t actually have a good picture in my head of what he looks like. (It’s hard to describe. I get kind of impressions of a face, or pieces, but if I try to draw up a clear mental image there isn’t one there.) I guess that’s your answer! Just visualizing what I want!
12. How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?
Oh dear. Considering I don’t even know how I want the story to end yet…
13. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?  
1) Llewelyn has pride issues, but he’s good at hiding it.
2)  Beyond some moral lines he won’t cross, he will do whatever it takes to become King.
14. What is something about your OC that can make you laugh?
He can be quite sarcastic.
15. What is something about you OC that can make you cry?
The fact that he’s been forced into a really difficult, almost hopeless situation that’s made worse by the fact that a goddess dispassionately hates his guts (she’s indifferent to him personally, his family as a whole on the other hand…) When the universe is out to get you, that’s pretty crushing.
16. Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
Not regret so much as don’t actually know how to write. I want him to be quite charismatic, persuasive, and manipulative, and I do not excel in any of those areas. It’s like the conundrum of trying to write someone more intelligent than you are. I can picture these situations in which he might use those skills, but I’m afraid that what I write will end up making him sound awkward, which is how I would feel in those scenarios. That’s probably a sign of my own insecurity, and he might not sound awkward, but I’m not sure. This is an aspect of him that I’m going to need outside feedback on to get right, so that I’m not blinded by my own insecurities/biases.
17. What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
Believe it or not until I answered question 4 I hadn’t thought about how the fact that his country was poor would affect him! I had taken the fact that he was royalty into account, but not that. So, I just discovered about ten minutes ago that his ambition (he was always going to be ambitious) is largely fueled by his desire to enrich his kingdom.
18. What is your favorite fact about your OC?
Oh, that’s a tough one! If I were being flippant I’d say it’s his name. Llewelyn. It’s so fun to say. A more serious answer would be that he is not going to give up, that he’ll grow as a person on his journey, he’ll never lose hope, and he’ll succeed.

Q: Why the Mad Max Fandom?
A: Fury Road blew my goddamn mind. I like action movies and female action protagonists, but nothing has ever quite hit me like Fury Road. I couldn't stop thinking about it. I had never written fanfic and didn't know what ao3 was, but the characters just wouldn't leave my head. I started seeking out meta on Tumblr, and many of the people who were writing and sharing great meta were also writing fic, and at some point I started thinking, hey, this is a thing I can do. And then I did it, A LOT.
Q: What do you think are some defining aspects of your work? Do you have a style? Recurrent themes?
A: Smut smut and more smut, lol! And sometimes action. I really like writing about intense physical experiences and the emotions they generate. I come from a screenwriting background, so I tend to be terse and am always thinking about how to say the most with the fewest words possible. I love writing characters who find it very hard to talk about their feelings, so Max and Furiosa are pretty much perfect for me.
Q: Which of your works was the most fun to create? The most difficult? Which is your most popular? Most successful? Your favourite overall?
A: Ahhh I can't pick between all of my children! AO3 statistics says Zero to Sixty, my Max-and-Furiosa-get-together fic, is my most popular by hits, kudos and bookmarks, which is not surprising given that it was written early in the fandom. I don't think I can pick a favorite but I have a lot of love for: Desperate Measures, Her Reputation Precedes Her, Hard Run, Tough to be Tender, and Scarf Thing. The only fic I'm still slightly unhappy with: Equinox. I feel like I set up some great tension and then wrapped it up too quickly.
Q: How do you like your wasteland? Gritty? Hopeful? Campy? Soft? Why?
A: Hard but with some humanity left still.
Q: Walk us through your creative process from idea to finished product. What's your prefered environment for creating? How do you get through rough patches?
A: Most of my short pieces are really just a single scene, sometimes with setup and aftermath. Sometimes I'll start with an image (like one of @youkaiyume's excellent smut drawings) or a concept or idea for the scene. Something short, like under 2,000 words, I will ideally sit down and write in one draft, maybe in a day or two. I don't do a lot of drafts, although I do somewhat edit as I go. Something longer like a multi-chapter fic, I usually have a separate Word document with notes and a very rough outline. I usually have the ending or the big climactic scene in my head before I've got everything in the middle figured out. If I'm struggling with something, I'll usually step away and just let my brain chew on it for a while, until I figure out what about it isn't working for me. I learned in grad school that your brain can be doing a lot of creative heavy lifting while you're off doing other things.
Q: What (if any) music do you listen to for help getting those creative juices flowing?
A: I'm not much of a music person, tbh. I have gotten inspiration from fanart, Tumblr submissions and kinkmeme prompts, though.
Q: What is your biggest challenge as a creator?
A: Finding enough time and energy to write. I'm someone who needs big chunks of time to let my brain get into the creative state and this whole having to have a job thing is a real drag.
Q: How have you grown as a creator through your participation in the Mad Max Fandom? How has your work changed? Have you learned anything about yourself?
A: When I saw Fury Road, I had been in a serious writing drought for the better part of a year. I was frustrated and feeling very hopeless about the filmmaking world. Even under the best of conditions, filmmaking is an incredibly slow process with a lot of gatekeepers. Being able to just write something, put it on ao3 and get instant feedback was an incredible breath of fresh air. I remembered my love of writing and found a whole new creative community. I started exploring a new genre, erotica, and learned that I love it. I started writing prose again after a long period of focusing on screenwriting, and gained a new appreciation for what can be done in the short story format.
Q: Which character do you relate to the most, and how does that affect your approach to that character? Is someone else your favourite to portray? How has your understanding of these characters grown through portraying them?
A: Furiosa is the character who lives in my head most vividly. She has a lot of characteristics I tend to put in my original female characters: a certain ruthlessness and hardness; hypercompetence combined with standoffishness punctuated by a few key moments of vulnerability.
Q: Do you ever self-insert, even accidentally?
A: I don't really like talking about characters as self-inserts. I think every character has some part of you in them whether you're aware of it or not.
Q: Do you have any favourite relationships to portray? What interests you about them?
A: Maxiosa for sure. I already had a pattern before Fury Road of writing hard women and caring men, so Furiosa and Max fit right into that. They are both incredibly damaged people who have been the victims and the perpetrators of violence, have a lot of self-loathing, have been isolated in various ways for a long time, and are used to having no one to trust. Bringing those two people together and watching them slowly allow themselves to trust each other is very powerful.
Q: How does your work for the fandom change how you look at the source material?
A: Fury Road is an incredibly rich text and there are so many things that are only hinted at, left unexplained or implied. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it at this point, but there are always more details to notice and spin headcanons about.
Q: Do you prefer to create in one defined chronology or do your works stand alone? Why or why not?
A: For MMFR, I started out writing mostly short smutty one-shots. At a certain point it made sense to start stringing them together, and the ones that take place in the same timeline are now roughly in order in the series Together. It happened organically, though - I tend to write my longer stories non-chronologically anyway, so at some point I realized I was constructing a giant smut novel.
Q: To break or not to break canon? Why?
A: Ehn, I am pretty agnostic on this. Sometimes sticking to canon can be a fun limitation you impose on your story. Other times, ignoring it can be a fun what-if.
Q: Share some headcanons.
A: Ace definitely lived. Nux definitely died historic. Valkyrie is alive in some of my stories and not in others. Dag's baby is a girl and she names her Angharad. Max comes and goes from the Citadel, staying for increasingly longer periods of time. Furiosa often wants to leave, but feels too much responsibility to the new Citadel to ever let herself.
Q: If you work with OCs walk us through your process for creating them. Who are some of your favourites?
A: I haven't created a lot of OCs in the Mad Max world because the canon characters are just so interesting to explore. But when I do they just kind of pop up. Biltong from the story Her Reputation Precedes Her is a personal favorite.
Q: If you create original works, how do those compare to your fan works?
A: My original works are mostly on the action/thriller/horror spectrum. I had never written smut before MMFR, but to me, it's very similar to writing action. You're telling a story through high-intensity physicality and the emotions surrounding it. In my original works, I mostly write female protagonists in high-intensity situations, so it made sense that MMFR would catch my attention.
Q: What are some works by other creators inside and outside of the fandom that have influenced your work?
A: @primarybufferpanel 's Orbit was my fandom gateway drug. @primarybufferpanel, @sacrificethemtothesquid, @lurkinghistoric, @v8roadworrier, @thebyrchentwigges, @thatonezombiecosplayer, @youkaiyume, @ecouter-bien , @bethagain, @fadagaski and @yohunny have all created things that I find inspiring, epic, thrilling, heartbreaking, hot, funny or all of the above. And I'm lucky that I've gotten to know many of them online and in meatspace!
Q: What advice can you give someone who is struggling to make their own works more interesting, compelling, cohesive, etc.? 
A: Stop and ask yourself: What does this character want? Why are they doing what they're doing right now? Concretely, what are they trying to achieve? What are the obstacles? What are the consequences if they don't get what they want? If a scene or story isn't working for me, usually it's because I don't know the answer to one of these questions.
Q: Have you visited or do you plan to visit Australia, Wasteland Weekend, or other Mad Max place?
A: I've been to Wasteland Weekend 3 times (2016, '17, '18) with Clan of the Boltcutters, and plan to go again in 2019. It's been so cool watching our camp and the festival grow and change each year. I had never been to anything remotely like Wasteland before I got involved in the Mad Max fandom, and now I can't imagine it not being part of my year. Australia...maybe someday.
Q: Tell us about a current WIP or planned project.
A: While I've been writing in the Venom fandom lately, I do plan to come back at some point and finish Closer, a story I really liked writing that I just haven't gotten time to get back to. I also have a few lingering MMFR projects that will hopefully be completed later this year.
