Today Variety (see above) had an article naming Heidi Schreck as the new writer for the live action She-Ra series at Amazon that was announced back in Sept 2021 and, after seeing dozens of terrible takes and people who are fans of the Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2017) freaking out, let's talk about this, shall we?
Disclaimer that I do not have any insider knowledge of this project specifically, this is just my educated perspective from my experience with IP and TV.
First and foremost, I will believe this project is actually happening when it is showing on my TV and not a moment sooner. Let's just say that.
Now assuming it IS happening, here's what you should understand...
IP is usually use it or lose it. If Dreamworks wants to keep the rights to make She-Ra content, they very likely must have something in active development or risk listing it. If Netflix isn't willing to make more of the animated series right now, then the Amazon deal is all they have or give She-Ra up entirely.Â
If you're an SPOP (2017) fan, you're in favor of Dreamworks retaining the license over losing it because, so long as they have it, the door is always open for more of our SPOP in one way or another. This reboot doesn't negate the possibility of a continuation of the animated version or vice versa. (Fans of frequently rebooted properties like TMNT and MLP would be happy to tell you about how there's been content for multiple gens at the same time.) It's not like the new version erases the old. If anything, a reboot often makes it more likely you get content of a past gen because of renewed interest in the property as a whole.
"But what if it's sexist trash!" The biggest fear people had about this reboot was that it would be some male gaze disaster made to please the worst kind of people who hate all kinds of diversity. Obviously, we'll see what we get, but the fact that they specifically got a feminist playwright as the writer is a big thing should alleviate some of that fear.
"But will it be gay????" I've seen lots of freaking out that Adora's going to kill Catra and marry a man on her grave and other equally unlikely fears. And the fact is: We don't know if it will be gay! With this writer, the gay door certainly isn't closed, but that doesn't mean it's open either. But honestly the real question you should be asking is: will it be explicitly gay? Because the rainbow homo-eroticism is baked right into She-Ra OG so even if we don't get an explicit same-sex kiss on screen... it's likely still gonna be pretty gay.
Even a bad or infuriating reboot will revitalize the fandom and bring new fans to SPOP (2017) AND increase the chances of continuation. Say the new show is terrible. Say they annoy everyone by giving Catra and Adora a supercorp queerbaiting thing and then never make it canon or make Catra and Hordak in love and everyone is mad. (Which I feel obligated to point out is *extremely* unlikely as this is literally still Dreamworks' show. They are the same people that gave you the gay. They are keenly aware of what their audience wants so, even if they are reluctant to make it canon, at the least they are probably going to tease it.) But even in the worst case scenario of the straightest possible version of She-Ra, what are people going to do if the new show pisses them off? Turn back to She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, create more fanworks, interact with what's already there, keep the fandom alive for everyone. You want that!
"Well SPOP (2017) was perfect and they should never be allowed to make another version of She-Ra again unless it's just like the thing we just got!" Wow, where have I heard something like that before? Oh yeah, that's exactly what the nightmare chuds said about Netflix's She-Ra and if they had gotten their way, we wouldn't have had this show we love. So maybe take a nice deep breath, chill tf out and look at that fact that there is no reason yet to see this announcement as anything other than a good thing for both this new reboot and the animated version's future.
#Heidi Schreck#she-ra#she ra and the princess of power#spop#amazon#dreamworks#netflix#catradora#live action#animated#i am on a deadline but I had to pause and write this bc y'all were being bananas about this

You know what scares me about this bowel Wiki phenomena?
What if an antidote actually picks up on it what if illumination besides you know what let's do this Bowser as a show of his character switches his affections to Luigi and they're just as demeaning toxic masterbatory and horrifying as they naturally whipped me because his feelings towards a peach very much are illustrated throughout the movie Are to be a reflection of himself
He idealizes her and figures capturing her will somehow give him all the things about her he admires at least half of which our projection
If that's his character that doesn't really change if he switches his targets to a human male and it be even more terrifying because we know he's already abused the Luigi
I guess what really hits me is this idea that Luigi being the equivalent of some sort of date therapist who's going to help Bowser realize his feelings for peach are false and then instant solution is oh he's gay and thus he's in love with Luigi and thus that's going to fix everything
That's not fixing everything that's doing the same thing
Only kind of worse because he hasn't actually come into his own and his own realization and consideration he's just decided that he's going to expand targets to whatever romantically or emotionally gives him that high or low or I think love is more like heroin for him than it is crack
Or perhaps more like pot
I actually think I disagree with one of my favorite bowser X peach post. the 1 where it's pointed out that he knew what he was doing when he sacrificed the people at the reception
It's not even that he's interested in conquering princess peach period he basically spells out in his motivation when he starts attacking Mario
For all of his The word exuberance he doesn't like himself or at the very least is deeply insecure and unhappy
So he constantly seeks something in order to make that stop or make him happy
But because of how messed up he is all he can do is destroy what he appreciates period it's an interesting deconstruction and reconstruction of the architype of the dragon or not the you know secondary villain to the boss who's going to kill everything but more the despotic destructive force that seeks to tear out the gates kidnap are women etc etc
If anything the human motives and sympathies and needs make him all the worse because you know he's not gonna stop because he doesn't have to humans meet each other in order to be our strongest
Dragons kind of don't or at the very least they're strong enough that they can be absolutely monstrous The only thing that they suffer is their misery when they don't have what they were trying to claim pity about everybody else only not because they only care about themselves
This is why I've always probably had a problem with male characters who get enormous amounts of narrative and in character sympathy while at the same time being such destructive loans i.e. Wolverine
The only thing that changed is then they would make sure that they'd always stopped short of being too destructive to the audience sentiment they've never suffered the negative consequences that make their lack of prudence a flaw. They constantly got to act as a sort of escape hatch for repressed desire not just for the audience but in character I'm particularly thinking Jean grey admittedly I'm talking ninety's x men animated I did not follow the comics and I am sorry if I'm mis representing how he would spend written over time
It's certainly by 2006 gotten that sensitive mail uh over right and now he's this cool a** bisexual rebel
But you know always a responsible dad at all times and never actually killed anything and loved nature and what have you
Og
Bowser is in some ways a deconstruction/reconstruction off of that and that isn't done in a way to save that Wolverine is bad so much as hey this sentiment in and of itself is worth re-examining how it would actually work and what it would actually mean and why and how it can become absolutely toxic and monstrous
Again there are so many aspects there that could be better but at the same time considering that I've been following RWBY for about a decade... I've seen what happens when someone tries to go dramatically deep when they're deliberately just not equipped or they're dealing with a story and set up that probably would work best if they just did it simple clean and to the damn point
Pov: Bowser se "confunde" de habitaciĂłn "otra vez" cuando va a secuestrar a peach.

Since you very nicely offered to write me a fic:
Your prompt is: A story about a background character or characters dealing with life after the TMA apocalypse.
It can be set in the OG TMA universe in the post-post-apocalypse, or it can also be set in a different universe that was affected by the events of MAG 200.
Both OCs and characters established in-show are allowed.
This one aligned so well with my interests that I am actually tempted to open my inbox, briefly, in case anyone else has questions like âwhat is X bavjground character doing after the apocalypse?â so I can make a series out of it and expand on my post-post-apocalypse headcanons.
For now, you can read your fic here, on over here on AO3
---
Sarah doesn't know where she is.
England, she has to still be in England, she thinks. But it's not an England she recognizes. Not the cobblestone streets of London, and not the moors she used to visit on her vacations. The ground is barren, as though all blades of grass but a few have shriveled up and died. There are no trees, houses, or landmarks for miles--just scorched remnants of where they might have been before.
For a moment, the emptiness of it all is a relief after the hotel. But everything is the same on all sides, and she doesn't know where she is or where to go. She's starting to get hungry, too. She never got hungry in the hotel, nightmarish as it was.
She has to sit down for a moment, take a few deep breaths, and think.
Get food. Find shelter. Survive.
Find Alex.
(God, why had she left her child in a hotel room? Little twelve year old Alex who was still afraid to sleep without a night light. He'd begged her to stay, she should have--)
With that in mind she gets up. Doesn't know what direction to walk in, so she doesn't concern herself with trying to pick one. There's nothing to do but walk, keep her eyes open, and hope.
So she hopes.
---
None of our old maps match the landscape, anymore.
The world these days it's... not like in the before times, as I suppose we're calling it. Despite our hopes, ending the apocalypse wasnât like everyone waking up from a nightmare. The land is...
It's scrambled, I guess. There are patches of the world that--well. They're not the same, but still have infrastructure intact. Electricity, running water, air conditioning. No scorched earth or rubble in these areas. Just a bunch of traumatized people living in an intact town, or city.
When I talk to them, they tell me it's not the city they remember, though. Everything has been switched around, houses and stores not where they remember them. Their neighbors aren't the neighbors their remember.
Those are the lucky ones. And then there's, well... the outside.
Some places have rubble everywhere, jagged steel ripped apart and waiting for someone to cut themselves on it. Some are frozen over, still waiting for the ice they were frozen over with in the apocalypse to melt. Some are scorched to dust. No phones out there, or anything that lets you connect back with home base.
I'm going out there. We need to map it out. We need to figure out our new world, understand it--and we need to get as many people out of the wastes as possible.
Melanie, Georgie--Iâll see you soon.
---
Sarah does find water. That's something. She's hungry still, so hungry, but she knows that the water is more important.
She wonders if she should stay there. She doesn't know if there will be more watering holes in the future, after all, and she has no way to carry it with her. She decides to keep moving on, and hope for the best.
She starts to see blades of grass poking up, along with some sort of metal crap strewn about the landscape. She looks at them a moment--it seems to be bits of an old carousel? Eventually, a giant sit in their shade, for a while. There she takes a moment to look at the horizon, and goes cold.
She recognizes the tower on the horizon.
AÂ scaffolded tower with two legs beneath it. A sight she'd last seen on a postcard from her brother. The Eiffel Tower.
Is she in Paris? No, that can't be it. It's just the tower out here in the wastes. There are none of the buildings that would normally surround it. It's almost as though its been ripped out of the city and transported here.
Does Paris even exist anymore? Does London?
If she even finds Alex, will there be a home for them to go back to?
---
I have a theory, Melanie. I think lots of people got transported to different places in the world based on what fear they belonged to. Like, a bunch of lonely people were put in the same place, a bunch of claustrophobic people were put in the same place, and so on. All away from the people they knew.
Iâm in one of the suburban safe areas now. No one here knows each other. I talked to them all, and all of them remember living in the same house before, but none of them recognized the houses near them or the people in them. When I went from house to house, everyone had a different native language. I talked to a German guy and a French guy who spoke English, but a lot of them⊠couldnât talk to me at all.
There was a woman who--she saw me and she lit up. She grabbed me and started talking a mile a minute in Arabic, I think. But I couldnât understand her, and she--when I tried to talk back to her in English, her face just. Fell. And then she started to cry.
My dad refused to speak it at home, you know. He-- Actually, never mind. Itâs not important.Â
She ended up shoving me away.
---
Sarah makes it to the ruins of a forest.Â
Thereâs nothing but stumps left of it, along with litter everywhere. She finds water again, filthy brackish water, and she drinks it anyway because sheâs so thirsty. She starts sifting through all of the garbage strewn about for something edible. She finds stale bread crusts crawling with ant and eats them anyway.Â
She finds a can of beans, and almost cries. When she canât find a can opener, she screams instead.
---
The death count has gotten to me, honestly.
Iâve found dead bodies even in the towns and cities. Some looked like heart attacks. Some suicides. People who woke up but couldnât bear the agony theyâd just gone through. Thatâs still not⊠the worst of it.
I passed a whole field of dead bodies today.
Hundreds of people, I think, all of them lying dead in the soil. But there were... trails. They had been walking, before they collapsed. All walking in the same direction, to where you can still see London on the horizon.
They were alive. They were trying to get help. And they just... starved, it looks like. The walk was just too long.
How many people are going to die from it all, Melanie? How many already have, out where we can't see them?
I left as many jugs of clean water and rations along the roads as I could. I put up signs pointing to London, saying how many miles out they were, where I had stashed food. I gave them your number, so they know who to call to get to the shelter.
I hope it means the next group that passes by won't die.
I hope there is a next group.
---
Sarah can see what looks like a city in the distance before she collapses.Â
She tries to get up, but canât. Sheâs been walking for days now, it feels like, only sporadically drinking and almost never eating. There just isnât enough energy left in her to stand.
She tries to think about little Alex again, running around in his Batman cape, hoping some kind of love or maternal instinct will kick in and give her the last burst of adrenaline she needs to get up. It doesnât work. Maybe she doesnât love her own son anymore, really. Maybe itâs just been fear and guilt driving her this far, and that source has already been wrung dry.Â
She manages to crawl a few feet, before she canât even do that. With nothing else left to do, she starts to cry out. âHelp! Water, please!âÂ
She doesnât think anyone will hear, or show up. But against all odds, in her dimming vision she sees a figure come into view. Backpacked, clutching a water bottle.Â
âHelp,â she croaks out again.Â
The figure gets closer, and she starts to be able to make out the details of his face. Heâs her age, or older, with worry lines carved into his forehead and wide eyes. His nose looks eerily like her brotherâs nose, and the shape of his jaw reminds her of her old boyfriend, the one who left her with--
She blinks. Maybe sheâs hallucinating, or maybe sheâs somehow run into a long lost cousin. But then, the manâs eyeâs widen and his mouth opens.
âMum?â
No, no it canâtâŠ
âA-alex?â
No, Alex was a little round cheeked boy. This is a thirty year old man, at least, taller than her. It hasnât been that long. It canât be, itâs not--
âMum?â Heâs doing a frown that looks so, so familiar. This has to be a dream. âMum, itâs--no.â
He sniffles. He steps forward, and steps back. He paces, uncertain.
âNo, no,â she hears him mutter. âItâs all fake, all fake. Itâs a trap. Thatâs what they want, the monsters and the face stealers. No one is real. Donât give them what they want--ââ
âPlease.â she begs.Â
But she hears him walk away, sniffling, and shortly thereafter everything goes dark.Â
---
I have a confession to make, Melanie. I was going to side with Jon, back then. I could have lived with keeping everyone here suffering to prevent more of it. But when he said he was going to kill the whole world, not just leave it--thatâs what made me snap.Â
I couldnât let the whole world die. Genocide of the entire human species? Anything but that. Surely passing along the suffering would be better, as long as it didnât lead to the extinction of whole worlds. ButâŠÂ
I keep finding more dead bodies.
I went back to that suburb I talked about, to restock on all my food. It was a lonely domain before, I think. Iâd thought everyone there would be fine, you know. They didnât have any deadly sicknesses, or twisted flesh injuries. They had food and water and shelter. But when I went back⊠more of them had died.Â
Lots of suicides. Some of them snapped, and started to self injure.
The German guy I talked to had started to starve. He had a pantry full of food and he just wouldnât eat it. I tried to get him to eat, to move in with someone else, but he said talking to people âmade him sick.âÂ
I gave up, and left. I had to. There were too many people, and too much to do, so I left him. Heâs probably dead now, or going to die soon. Because he canât find the will to live, and I donât know how to help someone with that.
The Lonely is probably one of the least directly harmful entities, right? This domain was just a suburb, probably the most comfortable you could get during the apocalypse. And yet the victims are still all dying.Â
How much worse is it in places without food and water? In the corruption domains that still probably have deadly diseases spreading? In war zones, in flesh factories?
I think about that nursing home we found. All of the patients who'd died of heart attacks a few minutes after they'd woken up. The ones left alive screaming for help where no one could hear them, for days after the fact. All of the ones that died in their beds before we found them.Â
I think about that field of bodies I found the other day. I think about the ruins of that Circus I found, people refusing to talk to me or each other--refusing to help because they didnât believe it was over and thought everyone else was a mannequin.Â
I think⊠I think it doesnât matter that we saved the world. If people canât find the will to live, ro rebuild, to trust and help each other again⊠I think weâre going through a mass extinction event anyway.Â
---
Sarahâs in a car, she thinks. Not a moving one. Sheâs propped up against a seat,Thereâs something plastic pressed to her lips.
âCome on,â says a womanâs deep, level voice. âCome on. I got you. Weâre getting to London. All you have to do is drink.â
Sarah opens her eyes. She sees a dark-skinned woman trying to coax her to drink, holding up a water bottle.Â
âJust a sip,â the woman says. âJust enough to make it.â
Sarah closes her eyes, and takes a long moment to consider whether she wants to.

DBS COLORING BOOK CHAPTER 74 REVIEW
*spoilers* I liked this chapter in isolation.
*spoilery spoilers* I dislike this chapter when comparing it to other chapters.
Here's the battle Vegeta fans have been waiting for...! (Glad I lowered my greatly expectations)
First, let's talk about use of panels real quick. When there is action, Toyo has done better and uses about 6 panels max to convey the fight. But when there is dialogue, he uses too many panels. Like 7 to 9 panels on one page. That is too much for dialogue. And he has pointless reaction shots often.
It begins with the axolotl inspired Sugarians leaving their fishbowl homes through cleaning-tube roadways. I like their aquarium-like city and their buildings.
And here we are on page 2 with the Toyotaro dialogue. đ How can I tell? Compare it to Dragon Ball and you can easily tell the difference between Toriyama's dialogue & Toyotaro's dialogue. (Toriyama has been more focused with working on the DBS movies. I highly doubt he contributes as much to the manga as some fans believe.)
Vegeta sounds like Mr. Satan when calling fusion and cloning "tricks" lol. And no, I doubt Vegeta's Forced Spirit Fission would work on Granolah. Granolah split himself in 2 with a technique. It is still all Granolah & he hasn't absorbed anyone. Forced Spirit Fission is useless here.
Granolah sure is chatty again after he kept saying how he really really wants to kill these Saiyans. Vegeta tells him he parted ways with Freeza and he is an enemy now, as to which Granolah laughs. Granolah thinks Vegeta is betraying Freeza to spare his own life. This just let's us know what kind of person Granolah is...
Granolah is a nonsensical idiot who doesn't know how to reason well & doesn't listen to truth because he assumes he is already right. I don't like ppl like him who refuse to grow mentally. I went from liking Granolah, to not caring about his bland personality, to disliking him. đ
Oatmeel's input is pointless because he doesn't sway Granolah into believing the Saiyans may not be lying. He quickly gives up and becomes quiet. Vegeta informs Granolah that he was a child when Planet Cereal's ppl were killed and wasn't part of the attack. But he doesn't care and Paragus wants revenge against the royal family... I mean, Baby wants revenge on all Saiya... Granolah wants to kill all Saiyans.
Then we get Vegeta saying he will kill Granolah after barely talking to the guy who was willing to talk. I guess Vegeta just wants to fight and test his power instead of trying to redeem himself like earlier chapters implied and fans theorized. Throw that out the window.
He turns SSB Evolution & Hakai's large rocks around Granolah. But Granolah appears behind him and shows Vegeta true hakai. He elevates a big chunk of the ground & blows it up then the force pushes Vegeta to him and Granolah strikes him. Cool way to use the environment in battle.
Also, Granolah knows Hakai. He shows it off by using his own more powerful Hakai & suggests Vegeta's training with Beerus is lacking.
There is some cool looking art. Their fight moves from forest to river to lake. Interesting environment s for DB. Reminds me of the Cooler movie and the fights on Namek a bit.
This entire time, Vegeta is on the defensive and has to run. But, I find pages 16-21 silly.
Why is Vegeta swimming when he can fly through the water?! Swimming is slower & Granolah is firing fast ki blasts at him!
YOU: "But, Vegeta is swimming so Granolah can't detect his ki."
Granolah can see him! His right eye is supposed to see blood flow and stuff. He nearly hits him multiple times. And lets not forget he was sniping them long distance and his Goku in the neck and almost took him out. Why does Granolah need aim assist now? I'll tell ya why. To make Vegeta look more impressive than Goku by making Goku look like a poor fighter. And this was a Goku who was using Ultra Instinct and still got messed up by Granolah while Vegeta is just using SSB Evolution. Character sabotage... đ
Back to my complaints about Vegeta swimming. The swimmin' would work in OG Dragon Ball but not here. It would work on Namek with Freeza who can't sense ki, but not here with Granolah who can sense ki (& maybe even god ki) & his eye can percieve all kinds of movements of the body.
And why does Vegeta momentarily pop up out the water then go hide back into it? Don't say its 'cause he needs to catch his breath. He aparently did training holding his breath while on the Heeter's ship, so he should be fine holding his breath. It was for a short period of time anyways. It just doesn't fit and is unnecessary in multiple ways.
Vegeta Hakai's Granolah's big blast to escape it and it blows him out of the water. Interesting kinda... Until you realize that Vegeta's training that we were shown was lame. He just Hakai'd logs & rocks! It should've shown him trying to Hakai ki blasts from Beerus. Make his training look cool darn it!
Chapter 70 Established that Hakai has changed. It no longer is just erasing things from existence in different ways. It has to have a *boom* explosion to it. So when Beerus Hakai'd Zamasu in chapter 19, there should've been an explosion instead of turning him into sand? So, now whenever the Hakai is used, there will always be an explosion...? I don't like how Toyo is quick to change what he set up just for his convenience...
Granolah brags about himself then Vegeta brags about himself-...! That's why I dislike Granolah! He's just like Vegeta! Maybe if I stop thinking of Granolah as a "good guy" then he will be cooler? I did like evil Vegeta as an evil character. We were supposed to hate him. So, if I imagine Granolah as an evil Vegeta... It worked! Granolah's unappealing attitude works perfectly if you view him as an evil enemy! (Still kinda preachy tho)
VEGETA: "But I'm still going to win."
Vegeta fans rejoice! Your prayers have been answered by the great Zalama! Vegeta announced victory...! Wait... I've seen this before... Yo... Vegeta fans, prepare for Vegeta to be defeated just in case. He has a record of announcing victory then ultimately losing. Don't get your hopes up too high.
Lol Granolah disses Vegeta's ego đ. But Granolah is unknowingly talking about himself too XD. Dummies. Vegeta mocks him by calling him "Mr. Strongest" & Granolah has nothing to day. Granolah can dish it out but can't take it.
Goku wakes up and sees Vegeta fighting Granolah. Who cares? How are you gonna be caught off gaurd in a form that reacts on its own? Go back to sleep. I'm not mad at you, Goku. I'm just disappointed.
Vegeta fires a barrage of ki at Granolah and Granolah Hakai's them. Then Vegeta fools Ganolah into destroying an ancient city of the Cerelians.
VEGETA: "I can tell, you know... That you only recently acquired this absurd strength."
GRANOLAH: "How? How can you tell?"
VEGETA: "Thank you for confirming."
There's the Granolah we know. Quick to give out valuable info. Also, this is to make Vegeta appear "smarter" & a "better fighter" than Goku. Realistically, a master martial artist like Goku would be first to notice that Granolah recently acquired this kind of power. But, Goku is being dumbed down for Vegeta's sake.
VEGETA: "Need I repeat myself...? You may be stronger but... there's no gaurantee that I'll lose to you!" *attempts to break Granolah's leg*
So says the guy who always loses unless the opponent is weaker than him. But, he even lost to weaker opponents on Earth before, so....
Vegeta fans calm down, calm down. This is basic Vegeta dribble. Let's be real. When has Vegeta ever defeated an opponent that was stronger than himself? Never. When has Vegeta become stronger than his opponent and defeat them because they're weaker than him now? Always. Does Vegeta ever win when he is too cocky? Nope. This is to hype y'all up. Don't be mad if he loses. Y'all know this routine. The arc ain't even over so the chances of him winning are low.
Now let's examine Vegeta's fight in comparison to Goku's fight.
Goku goes through all his forms & uses Ultra Instinct in base, SSJ, SSG, SSB, & then goes silver haired UI when fighting Granolah. Then, he loses in every form. Vegeta goes straight to Blue Evolution and only seriously gets hurt once.
Goku keeps getting hit despite having a technique that is all about evasion. Vegeta gets hit far less & doesn't have Ultra Instinct.
Goku was struggling to fight a clone that was half the power of Granolah. Vegeta fights Granolah at his full power and struggles less.
Goku complains about his training and how he is struggling using his technique. Vegeta who had less time with Hakai training isn't complaining about struggling with Hakai.
Goku far surpassed Vegeta in the Moro arc, yet they are crippling Goku to let Vegeta catch up & make him look better. Vegeta has literally gotten a handout that he didnt have to work hard for in order to catch up with Goku... This chapter is fine when isolated and you aren't thinking about any other previous chapter. But, it is a convoluted mess when you look back at the previous chapters, the piss poor storytelling, & Vegeta's poor Hakai training that leads up to this chapter.
Where'd that "heroic" Vegeta and that "redemption" stuff go? Its as if Toyotaro decided he should stop tying to make Vegeta the hero & main character instead of Goku being the main. (Thank God.)
But... Vegeta says that he loves fights that are unpredictable?? That I disagree completely with. Vegeta wants fights to go in his favor through all of DBZ and will throw a fit when it doesn't.
In RoF: it was going in his favor so he loved it.
Destroyer Tournament arc: he didn't like that things didn't go his way in the end.
Future Trunks arc: he was upset when losing to Black, but loved it when he thought he was going to win.
ToP: angry when everyone else surpassed him, happy when he gained an upperhand, upset when he lost the upperhand.
Moro arc: Vegeta is upset that Moro is stronger but even more upset that Goku is stronger than him. When he is stronger than Moro he is loving it. Then when he loses the advantage, he is upset.
Vegeta doesn't love unpredictable fights, Goku does! Vegeta loves predictable fights in his favor.
Granolah asks how many lives were sacrificed for Vegeta's carnage. Vegeta doesn't answer. Why? Because its best to ignore the fact that he has killed billions of ppl so that Vegeta fans can ignore his bad actions (Yet many say that Vegeta has developed so much without acknowledging his terrible past). Can't have Vegeta looking like a bad guy in this chapter, right?
Oh boy! Page 37 is more "Vegeta hype!" He doesn't care about strongest or second strongest ('cause he has never been 1st place) & he basically explains Dragon Ball to us.
Roshi already taught Goku & Krillin that there will always be somebody stronger, so they need to keep reaching higher and higher.
If Vegeta is stronger than he was a few minutes ago, would that mean the same for Goku when he was fighting? Why did he perform so poorly? I wonder... đ€
Granolah jabs Vegeta in the stomach, but Vegeta manages to slow it down (how come Goku using Ultra Instinct couldn't do that?). And cool. Blood. Anime has better writing and cool character development/moments. The manga has blood... Well, I guess blood is cooler to some ppl.
Vegeta is looking like Goku in the ToP before he attained UI. He has his head down & all. Vegeta just isn't talking about hownl much he sucks. Why does Goku keep insulting himself? N-nevermind. This is about Vegeta who keeps complimenting himself.
Why did Granolah become scared of Vegeta suddenly? Wouldn't he just see him as a mad dog and use his amazing power to put Vegeta down before he can do anything? He hates them so much, but keeps letting them live.
Uh oh... Vegeta doesn't like protecting and saving? BuT I tHoUgHt hE wAs a hErO! Where is his development going?? Ya mean the real development he had in the anime or the pseudo development in the manga?
But even after saying all that... I prefer manga Vegeta to be like this instead of a wannabe hero. Wannabe hero doesn't fit. This feels like Vegeta is in character again. I like this. I was just criticizing how Vegeta was written in past chapters in comparison to this one. A more chill Vegeta who loves battles? This is what I've wanted from DBS manga Vegeta for a long time!
Oh snap! Vegeta's transforming? I wonder what it will look like (thanks for the warning from the leaks đ). Oil... Why are you even in this chapter? We don't care about you right now & you're boring without Maki. Goku says it ain't "any old god ki."
I wonder how Goku never knew about this new form if he and Vegeta trained on Beerus Planet together. Ya think he would've sensed and saw it & even wanted to fight against it.
So is this new form a spur of the moment thing? So Vegeta has a new form that he never trained... And he asks if Granolah has been training his new power on page 34... Sounds hypocritical of Vegeta, or he is being thrown a bone to make him look capable. Is Vegeta gonna pull a Golden Freeza by not training this new form? Or maybe a UI Goku at the ToP and lose the form?
Page 43, Granolah shoots tiny ki blasts at Vegeta's tower of flaming ki and he is surprised it did nothing. Why not try again but this time use that one big blast instead. No? Gonna let the guy of the race you hate finish transforming? Just gonna be scared and shocked to make Vegeta look impressive? Ok.
Pages 41, 44, & 45
Oh! Here it is! The new form...! Aaaand I still don't like it. Also, he healed up like Goku did last chapter too. Odd. Why does transforming heal them now? Didn't before.
No build up to make the form more cool, it's just
"Here, Vegeta. Goku has one more form than you do & he has mastered UI, so we can't let you fall too far behind. So I just pulled this crap transformation fresh outa my butt and gave it to you."
Another undeserved handout. Can you please make Vegeta earn a new form in the manga? PLEASE?!
Vegeta looks like he is in his own UI Omen form (like how Vegeta fans begged for Vegeta to get for the longest time). Dark hair with sone lighter coloured higlights, light coloured pupils, new aura. But this is what I see...
SSJ3ROSĂ of DESTRUCTION INSTINCT OMEN (or just "SSJ-ChexMix" for short)
Looks like in the end, Vegeta needed to resort to his own Ultra Instinct equivalent!
Oh no... I criticized Vegeta's bad writing too much! I bet some Vegeta fans are gonna automatically assume that I hate him because I want him to be written better without plotholes! đ±
IN CONCLUSION:
This chapter is good when isolated on its own. But, this chapter is filled with inconsistencies when you look back at previous chapters. Overall, it's... a mixed bag that I barely like. It's just so retarded that Goku had to be dragged through the mud just for Vegeta to look better. That is insulting to Vegeta and it either shows how much he sucks or or how weak the writing for Vegeta is. But we got what we got...
Wanna know how to make Vegeta look good without making Goku look pathetic? Goku never uses MUI! Goku defeats Granolah's clone with SSB. Then, Granolah merges back with his clone & catches SSB Goku by surprise and knocks him out.
Then, the reason why Vegeta seems to be doing better is because Vegeta is using SSBE, unlike SSB Goku who was caught off guard. Why make the MUI form & Goku both look like trash just to give Vegeta his own Ultra (Destructive) Intinct? Is Vegeta really that trash?! đđŽ
I don't wanna see the Heeters anymore. My hype for them died, but maybe a later chapter can make me like them more. Idk.
Where is my homie, Moniato?! đ (BEST CHARACTER OF THE ARC SO FAR!)
Oh yeah...I was supposed to complain about not seeing Freeza again like I do every chapter... Who cares at this point? If Granolah is stronger than Goku & Vegeta, what can Freeza do? Hide for 3 yrs and let Granolah die?
What are my predictions for next chapter? More Vegeta wanking of course. More gloating & looking down on Granolah too. A battle of overinflated egos. Bad dialogue and decent to good art. I'll probably find it mostly boring but I may be surprised (that could be a good or bad thing). Vegeta will appear to be winning before...
Vegeta gets defeated & certain Vegeta fans will rage & be annoying. Those ones will complain about how Vegeta always gets the short end of the deal (that's what he gets for being shorter than Bulma & 12 cm taller than Krillin). This one should happen imo based off of Goku's performance.
Vegeta's fight will get interrupted before the battle ends so that Vegeta fans don't get angry. Make Vegeta fans feel that Vegeta could've won and keep them grasping on to hope. (How manipulative.) This one is most likely to happen to "satisfy" all fans.
Vegeta will win and Vegeta fans will rejoice & some will be very annoying. Despite the fact that he had terrible training, was handed a new form just to stay relevant, and Goku had to underperform & UI had to be nerfed just to make Vegeta look good. This one may happen just to appease Vegeta fans. (That is the worst outcome imo.) If Vegeta gets "a win/a W" against a main villain, make sure his training looks impressive and he has some sort of connection to the main bad guy. That way the victory feels well deserved.
If the final enemy is Freeza, then Vegeta defeating Granolah isn't "a win" against a major villain. Granolah will just be a bump in the road. He's already set up to not be a "bad guy." In the end, the main bad guy will be either Freeza, Gas, 7-3, or someone. Vegeta fans shouldn't care if Vegeta wins or loses against Granolah. He isn't the "final boss."

full thoughts on the chaos walking movie? I want to hear more about it lol I havenât seen it yet
it just...it felt like TKONLG but without EVERY GOOD PART, you know?
scene-wise, the closest individual scene we had to anything in the book was maybe the scene where Viola read Toddâs motherâs book to him? (even that wasnât the same bc that was also the scene where we find out heâs illiterate, and he lets her read it right away, so there was no deep-rooted embarrassment about not being able to read). also it happened in Farbranch. BUT, like it captured the emotion of the OG scene a little, where Viola is reading to Todd and heâs hearing his maâs words and getting emotional about it.
but all the stand-out scenes from the book, i.e. saying goodbye to Ben and Cillian, meeting the girl and getting hit in the head with a branch and bandaging her anyway, ALL of the Aaron fights, the bridge, the massacre of Farbranch, the song of Here, the Spackle, Toddâs illness, the waterfall scene, Haven, NONE of that was in the movie. so imagine all the really important and powerful moments gone
also all the overarching themes? those are gone too. todd becoming a man is HUGE deal in the books. even in his horrible awful town he just wants to feel like he BELONGS and heâs the one person in the entire town being ostracized. two of the biggest secrets in Toddâs whole world are kept from him for the majority of the book because heâs ânot yet a manâ. itâs important to him. and once todd realizes the connection between Prentisstown maturity and murder, he spends the rest of that book WISHING he could be a killer. wishing he could have that kind of strength and seeing himself weak for not being able to kill.Â
all of that?? gone. movie!Todd often chants the familiar âI am Todd Hewittâ (and sometimes âbe a manâ) when heâs nervous or trying to cover something in his Noise, and has a little tiff with Ben and Cillian at the beginning of the movie bc the Mayor sees Todd as a man while Ben and Cillian do not. (thatâs a weird little bit though bc the movie never really explains why the Mayor had such an interest in Todd). but thatâs about it in terms of coming-of-age material in the movie. and about murder. seeing as he doesnât. kill. the. Spackle. let that sink in.
also like. the Noise is shown as a CONCEPT but not as a theme. the THEME of Noise is that, and I quote
âIn this world of information overload, the ability to feel, my boy, is a rare gift indeed.â
or perhaps
âKnowing a manâs thoughts ainât knowing a man.â
or even
âKnowledge is dangerous and men lie and the world changes, whether I want it to or not.â
in this movie, Noise would be described as like. a nuisance at worst and a superpower at best. you can hear most of every manâs thoughts in the movie, though not a constant, never ending stream. just just bits sporadically at either plot-convenient or comedic times. the Mayor (and at one point Ben, and at one point Todd) uses his Noise to construct illusions around people kind of similar to that Jake Gyllenhaal villain in Spiderman: Far From Home.Â
but neither of these two main examples really SHOW the themes that Patrick Ness showed us in the books. that Noise is powerfully ANNOYING; that it can quickly break down relationships between groups of people; that it can be manipulated making large lies still possible.
like, remember when in the books, Todd and Viola get to Farbranch and poor Todd is absolutely GOBSMACKED that 1. the women are ALIVE and 2. the men and women are living together?? in harmony?? what the eff?? and you see Hildy in Tamâs Noise and just how much they genuinely love each other and Todd is like âdamn we ainât in Prentisstown anymore Mancheeâ. and you can just see based on the contrast that Prentisstown people are a whole different breed compared to the kindness of Farbranch?
in the movie Todd has a few moments of inner dialogue where heâs like âoh man thatâs a woman. thatâs nutsâ and then we move on. his world should be turned upside down here and its not. and the difference between the two towns is that they kinda just made it seem like, yeah, Noise is annoying so we have the men sleep separately from the women so we all get a little peace, and itâs fine. thatâs how Farbranch deals with it. it all just feels very blasĂ©Â
(i canât remember specifically where this happens, probably either in Farbranch or cutting back to the Prentisstown men getting ready to march, but at some point a leader ends up saying something to a crowd of people and you can see how just one sentence spreads through an entire group of men and how they all start amplifying it and getting more and more panicked and i did think the mob mentality was cool. it reminded me of the beginning of The Ask and the Answer were the Mayor is addressing the citizens of Haven and you get that moment where the whole crowd flinches over the words of one man.)
and in all of this Iâve barely mentioned Viola. my wonderful girl. how theyâve massacred her story. god.
all of Violaâs development for the first half of the book is tanked from the start bc you SEE the crash, you see her stealing food from Ben and Cillianâs house (thatâs the inciting incident of the movie), she talks to the Mayor in Prentisstown almost immediately after Todd finds her and his Noise helps everyone locate her, she talks to Todd a lot before getting to Farbranch after they escape Prentissown. the book does a LOT of work for Viola by having her mute and scared for the beginning and slowly showing how she comes to trust Todd. and how even after their incessent bickering in Farbranch they still choose to escape together because they know the army is after them specifically and theyâre all the other has. that progression is really important in the book, as well as afterwards when we see how snarky Viola can actually be when speaking, how she thinks this entire planet is BACKWARDS and she canât wait til her ship comes and shows them a thing or two about how to live.
movie Viola, well. she wants to find a way to communicate with her ship. sheâs under the impression that since her scout ship crashed theyâre gonna assume sheâs dead and leave her behind. even though the Mayor brings up the settlers a lot after he learns about them, Viola curiously never really brings them up in any other context besides they need to come and get her. like it really made it sound like she planned on calling them, having them scoop her, and then theyâd all just fucking leave, i guess. i donât know what her end goal was besides CALLING HER PEOPLE which became the main point of the movie. the Mayor trying to find Todd and Viola so he could....use her to contact the ship?? that was also kind of unclear. and Viola trying to get to a communicator possibly so she could get the hell out of dodge. idk if that was her actual plan, but it was certainly what Todd was thinking, enough to where I was wondering if he was going to sabotage her mission in order to force her to stay (yeah. yeah. he had that energy about him and it was grosss)
and quickly, since all the animals couldnât talk the way they do in the book, Manchee was more of a cute prop than anything. i could have gotten over it if he was useful in any way, but he never even like attacked a dude to save Todd or anything like that. so when he died it was sad on a dog-level but not a character level, since besides sitting next to Viola like twice while she cried he really added nothing to the story. also the shock of animal death was greatly reduced already since Toddâs horse that he used to escape Prentisstown from got a broken leg after he rode him off a cliff, so Todd used the knife (off-screen, thank god) to put him down. so Manchee getting killed was kind of lessened a little since my man Whiskey got nixed like 40 min earlier in the film.
this is getting long so Iâll cut it here since Iâm gonna probably post about this a thousand more times. but yeah. if you watched it completely divorced from the books you would probably think âthat was a cool concept but also what was the point of any of thatâ which is basically what most people thought based on the review headlines iâve read. and if you are an avid book fan youâre gonna think youâre watching something else entirely.
#chaos walking#chaos walking movie#cw movie#chaos walking spoilers#violaeade#long post#ill def be posting about this more bc its all ive thought about for days#@ everyone i am always willing to discuss chaos walking#if you wanna send me an ask or DM me im open for business#kelly got an ask

PLEASE TELL US ABOUT THE SEASON TWO IN YOUR HEAD
OKAY CURRENT PROGRESS ON SOUL EATER SEASON TWO THAT LIVES IN MY HEAD.
hm okay so first of all it takes place a few years after the og series, I'm thinking like six to seven? point is the gang is all split up, maka was offered a teacher position at dwma but turned it down to travel a bit and consider if she's comfortable with working for dwma considering all the secrecy they're doing. soul is with her because that's what he does and crona is with her because Do Not Separate Them. blackstar and tsubaki are also out seeing the world but less to philosophize and more to get stronger because they're tsubaki and blackstar, possibly incorporating tsubaki's cool new forms from the manga. kid is still in death city and basically I think it'd be interesting if he's slowly preparing to take over as death god with full knowledge of what that would entail for lord death, since that would kinda put a new spin on it compared to the manga. also on the side he's also doing his own scheming because I think that would be fun.
anyway, plot stuff is that dwma have been using angela and mifune to get in contact with the witches and there's talk of a truce, once again incorporating stuff from the manga. the plan is to send kid to do some preliminary negotiations with a team to look out for him, and he asks to take maka and blackstar rather than like, stein or someone, partly because friendship and partly because they're more likely to go along if he starts scheming. this is how we reunite the gang, minus crona who would be wildly unsafe going into with territory considering their connection to medusa and because there's a chance the witches might want to study up on the black blood, in which case crona is the best test subject.
before they leave for the negotiations some way or another it comes out that kim is a witch, which the gang promises to keep secret also I think it'd be cute and sweet if the whole b-team knows and are looking out for kim. anyhoo through kim they find out a bit more abt what the current political situation in the witch world is, which angela and mifune had not been let in on since he's a human and she's like ten. basically, as eruka said in the og series mabaa is getting old so they're also prepping for a change in power, and the title of supreme witch or whatever is slated to go to one of three chosen young witches who have been trained from birth. the gang decide to keep this to themselves for now, partly to keep kim safe and partly because of kid's scheming.
(it should also be noted that there needs to be so many heartwarming reunions also also blackstar is still the shortest he's the token manlet of the group)
anyway they get going and eventually meet up with a witch who uses magic to transport them to where mabaa is hanging out, maybe the witches have a cool witch city that's like. a pit or something whatever it is it needs to be dramatic. negotiations start and kid reveals that he's not only interested in a truce, he wants an active partnership, hence the scheming. mabaa at least isn't outright opposed to the idea but notes that the dwma have been hunting witches for ages so the larger community is bound to be at the very least hesitant. the whole witch election is brought up and mabaa agrees to set up meetings with the three witches with the understanding that if the gang so much as lay a hand on them or in any way try to meddle in the process she will personally see to it that the dwma/witch conflicts escalates to an all out war.
after this I'm kinda fuzzy on the plot, but the first one they see is maggot witch, who's not interested in a partnership. she gives the group brain worms which they manage to get through by the power of friendship or something, and which blackstar has a problem with bc he has a hard time asking from help because that's a sign or weakness or whatever, once again I'm unsure on this. around this time is also where crona shows up because they only managed to keep still for like a day before they started worrying abt maka since they have a lot more experience with witches than she has. they've gotten a lot better over the years, they're still very sheltered but their partnership with ragnarok is much more stable and they can make a joke or two I think. I feel like they deserve it.
next they probably take a quick break at some kind of safe house to recover and build character dynamics, after which they go see bee witch. bee witch is a lot more fun to be around, she throws big parties and has a laff, and she says she'd be interested in working with dwma, because she has a personal loss in the conflict. here we find out that a witch she was really close to (maybe her mom idk) was the witch maka's mom killed to make a death scythe, which maka is smart enough to shut up about but which makes the potential alliance a bit shaky since it's one thing to talk abt it in abstract and a whole other thing to have a shot at revenge within arm's reach. they leave not feeling entirely sure and with crona deeply uncomfortable since they had to endure a party scene press f.
last with they see I haven't drawn or developed a whole bunch yet, but she's a dragonfly witch and doesn't really care either way abt working with dwma since she's not interested in the leadership position in the first place. she has a lot of feelings abt being raised for this One Purpose and not getting to be a person, especially with the risk that she's not even going to get to serve that purpose, which hits home with crona. after this I have. no idea what happens but probably something goes wrong, maybe because of kid's scheming since lord death is bound to find out at some point.
additional notes: I think soul and crona should get to bond over being the most introverted, like just seeing them look genuinely comfortable sitting away from the group and not saying a word to each other. maka's mom's achievements kinda coming back to bite maka in the ass I feel like would give some nuance to the way maka idolizes her mother and constantly tries to follow in her footsteps. I think maybe since this is soul eater season two that lives in MY head I should get to sprinkle in some romance who's to say. I could back it up with how it would add to the themes if I wanted to but it's embarassing and this post is already filling up my embarassment quota for the night, so ask me like. tomorrow if you want to know. I cherish you so much for asking me abt this though make no mistake. I dip you like a dancer

Trying to alternate between my writing and my analysis blog sounds good in theory, and then you get stuck writing a scene and immediately start falling behind on the schedule you just made to try and catch up with your usually slow update rate. orz.
Anyways, letâs get into things. Iâm already close to 300 chapter behind canon, no need to let that lead get any larger. (Abet I might have to take asides to do stuff like Vigilantes and whatnot⊠hrm⊠will see when we get further into this reread.)
[No. 15 - Vs.]
We start off with another âcoverâ page, this time of All Might front and center, posed like heâs the main character of an American comic book. Which, with the number of jokes we make about him being the OG series protagonist while Izukuâs story is the subversive sequel, would be pretty damn apt.
Our return to the story starts with Toshinori, sitting in the breakroom at UA, worried that he canât get in contact with Aizawa or Thirteen. He then considers how foolish he was for putting hero work ahead of his teaching, good reasons or not, and then wonders what heâll have to tell the other teachers when he shows up at the end. He thinks that heâll be fine in another ten minutes⊠then inflates into All Might with a splurt of blood as he gets up, deciding to go immediately.
Of course, thatâs when Nedzu decides to make an entrance, pulling his âam i a-â spiel for the audience All Might. All Might crouches down in place, rocking a bit on his feet as he complements Nedzuâs coat. Nedzu replies that the secret is keratin, and that âno human could produce such lusterâ - our first actual confirmation that Nedzu isnât a particularly extreme mutation quirk, but is in fact a quirked animal!
(Not that we seem to see any others in the series so far⊠at least not to my awareness.)
Nedzu pulls out a tablet, showing a news report about All Might handling three incidents in under an hour. Nedzu goes on to explain that while the villains havenât let up even with All Mightâs presence in town, running off the moment he hears thereâs trouble is so very like the man, and that All Might hasnât changed at all.
(and a little bonus translation difference)
...anyways. Toshinori deflates again as Nedzu tells him to try taking it easy once in a while. As Nedzu clambers up onto the couch, he goes on to note that Toshinori would only be able to attend a portion of the rescue training class that day. He then reminds Toshinori that while Nedzu had made the offer to teach, Toshinori had been the one to accept it, so heâd appreciate it if he would try a bit harder to prioritize his role as a teacher. The city has enough hero agencies to deal with common criminals.
Toshinori agrees, and that that was way he was just getting ready to head to the USJ. Nedzu pours himself some tea, noting that Toshinori would be forced to return soon thereafter, so why not take some time and enjoy tea and crackers with him? He can even share his theories on education! Toshinori sweats as he watches Nedzu pour his tea, thinking on how thereâs no stopping Nedzu once he gets going. Heâs also thinking about the fact that he hadnât even gotten voicemail, and that the fact he hadnât been able to get through at all was what was worrying him about the situation.
Manâs hero instincts are on point. Another small reminder of how this man held onto the number one spot for so long.Â
Nedzu does get into his spiel about the stresses and burdens when walking the line between hero and educator, while Toshinori determines that Nedzu hasnât changed either.
A couple interesting things I can think about for this last bit:
1) Nedzu and Toshinori have known each other for a while, enough that they can have had some time without much interaction and then come back into contact and go âah yeah this is the same as ever.â I wonder just how long ago they met, in what circumstances, and how long Nedzuâs known about One For AllâŠ
2) People who use this as another reason to criticize Toshinori as a teacher. I mean. Heâs only been teaching for three days at this point. He knows he fucked up. Nedzu reminds him he fucked up. People make mistakes, especially at the beginning of a new job they arenât experienced in. Heâs learning. Please just chill.
3) 'Stresses and burdens walking the line between hero and educator' is something that I think could actually be a very good summary of Aizawa's character development? Because early on, he very much is Not A Teacher. The only reason he's at UA is because he was basically dragged in there by Hizashi and Nemuri. He demanded the power to be able to expel to give the kids 'a taste of death' without actually, like, killing them.
At the beginning of the series, he's not really all that invested in his students. He's just There. He doesn't care so long as they stay up to his unknown standards. He's much more focused on what he needs to do as a hero, ie the USJ incident. He's acting as a hero, protecting the kids who are basically civilians from a villain attack, even if it means his own life.Â
But then we also see him push himself that bit further to save his students, which might be the first point where he might be considering that he canât afford to die, because who else will teach them to protect themselves from such things? Because a hero can die in the line of duty and all that, but a teacher needs to keep living to protect their students and teach them how to survive and thrive.Â
I think we see the culmination of the character arc started here in the War arc, though of course heâs got a lot further to go. I think itâs also a parallel to Toshinori, whoâs also learning to be a teacher but from a different direction, which just continues to make them great narrative foils. Hori, man, how do you keep doing it?
...hah, but I might also just be reading too much into what might be an awkward translation.
Anyways, we switch from this generally low tension scene right back into the chaos at the USJ. Tenya gets into class president mode as he asks for a sitrep of peopleâs locations. Shouji confirms with his extra ears that everyone is still in the facility, abet scattered. Thirteen is surprised (and perhaps relieved) that that is the case, though she doesnât say anything specifically.
Sero notes that physical attacks are no good against Kurogiri - he can just warp away. The quirkâs just too tough to handle! Thirteen turns to Tenya and gets his attention, then tells him his job is to run back to the school and report on whatâs happening. She goes on to explain that the alarms havenât sounded and the phones arenât working. The alarm system uses infrared tech, so the fact that it hasnât activated, even with Eraserhead nullifying quirks, means whoever is interfering with the system has hidden themselves well. With that being the case, Tenya making the run is their best option.
Tenya starts to argue that the class president canât just abandon his class, only to be stopped when Sato grabs him, saying that Thirteen said to go! Also I thought for a second they were making another emergency exit Iida joke here, but no, itâs just that Tenya needs to escape through said emergency exit. A more serious nod to the previous joke about him and emergency exits.Â
Sato then goes on to note that thereâs alarms outside, which means the villains can only be causing trouble inside the facility - so if Tenya makes it out, the villains canât follow! He finishes it off with a motivational âshake off that mist with that speed of yours!â Thirteen adds onto that with a repetition of their request - use his quirk to save everyone.
God, look at these kids, so scared and so brave. Ochako and Mina are both sweating and nervous, but Ochako is still swearing to provide support, just like in the cafeteria, so he needs to do it!
Kurogiri is being a looming shadow as he notes that they have no hope, and wonders what kind of fools discuss strategy in front of the enemy. Thirteen starts using her quirk on him as she states that it doesnât matter if he overheard because he canât stop them.
And since the rest of this chapter is dedicated to Izuku, Tsuyu, and Minetaâs escape from the yacht, Iâll cut this off here so that itâs the focus of all the next post. I guess itâs kind of a good thing I rambled early on, otherwise this would be extremely shortâŠ

Your thought's about mikasa's ending? I have seen people upset that she got the worst ending out of everyone even though she made the biggest sacrifice.
This made me think: which character do I think got the worst ending?
And I think it's 100% Historia. At least some hint of Ymir would've been nice. It's good in the sense that having a baby didn't somehow drop her position as queen, but that's about it.
Falco and Gabi get no thoughts whatsoever, but I think they at least got to reflect sufficiently beforehand and sort of end the main portions of their arcs then.
Second in row are Pieck and Annie who get to be the cynical balances to Armin. I'm particularly happy with this because they didn't leave off on a having babies note. None of the potential relationships are rushed to and pushed in your face 3 years later.
You can make some connections, but that is not the focus and that's really rare for shounen.
For example, I see Armin and Annie being championed around, but their interaction is a pretty neutral one. It doesn't confirm anything. The problem with the endings of these two (and this will become a trend) is that they are character-specific in very general ways. It's a very general ending.
A portion of the side cast is like this, namely Gabi, Falco, Annie, Pieck, Jean and Reiner. They have elements of their arcs, but the only one among them getting a sort of full-blown scene for only themselves is Reiner.
I think this is fine for Connie. Him getting his mom back is the best closure he can get after what he has gone through and it sort implies he can now get the emotional closure for becoming a soldier.
Pieck never had much of an arc to begin with, so her final moment being another "exactly right" moment is good, but it is very basic.
Annie's character arc is shown by her simply being there and taking action. The aim of it was for her to learn take action in the face of a cruel world. I see people complaining she's on the ship and not somewhere peaceful, but I think that would actually be much worse.
Equally, Jean's arc is shown by him simply being there. But there is the hint of him trying to look good for someone.
I think the biggest problem people seem to have with is Reiner and because of the Historia joke, that's all that gets attention.
But I think out of these four his is the strongest because his goal all the way back was to become a hero because his mom pushed him into it. For his mom to throw this expectation away is a very good way to end it for him.
The problem with all of these is that they aren't necessarily specific moments just focusing on their inidividual growth. But you also can't do that in 40-50 pages when there is other stuff to also cover.
The endings I strictly do think are solid are Levi's, Eren's, Armin's and Mikasa's.
I saw a post talking about how 95% of Eren's character was thrown out for the finale and I just don't think this is true.
I understand the complaining about the exaggerated outburst about Mikasa, but just go back to the Trost arc and the first chapters:
- Eren is no longer looking for revenge.
- He clearly cared about Armin and Mikasa since the start. So few people mention Grisha's words about him controlling this power to save them in the context to this final chapter. He did it. He gave them a new chance at life by the end.
- The story started with Eren swearing to eradicate the Titans and it ends with him essentially doing so. It's partially because of OG Ymir, but he is a big part of it.
- The most important part to me is that the genocide is condemned. Directly and subtextually.
- The entire point of this is that the consequences are single-minded and selfish. The story never set up Eren to be this selfless hero OR some blind monster who just wants destruction. He's motivated by what he personally cares for the most.
His ending is completely fine to me.
I think Armin's and Levi's endings are the best, with Armin's edging out Levi because Armin actually has a substantial character arc.
Armin's ending is a callback to the situation in chapter 11.
People hate Armin just because he supposedly killed Bert and "replaced" Erwin (because of the young coming after the old trope), but Levi straight-up says that he can't replace Erwin. Erwin's death is not painted as a positive thing. It's, again, a selfish decision.
But I love his arc. All he can do is the best with the circumstances he has been given and the talents he has. Him convincing the Marleyans through diplomacy is the best ending to his arc I think you can get.
He doesn't have to be coaxed into action. He acts with confidence all the way through. I think it's really good. There is so much talk about Armin worship, but I really think his journey and his principles aren't bad ones to emphasize.
Levi gets the closure for his friends at the Survey Corps. His is one of the more simpler character endings and his character is one of simpler ones. There is no need to look back at any context here. He killed Zeke and that's it.
Finally, there is the character you asked about, Mikasa. I like her ending. She is mourning Eren, but she still has the good memories of him and her friends are coming to visit her soon. I think the final sentiment is that while she lost Eren, she is not alone and will live on for them and in Eren's memory. I think as a big finale maybe everyone arriving at the tree to visit her would've been more emotionally potent and "definite", but I like it.
My biggest issue with the ending is actually how some of the characters were handled. I think all of the characters could've gotten at least a small scene all to themselves to show their growth and emotional state like Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Levi and to a smaller extent, Reiner did. Eren obviously got the most focus because he kind of caused a global genocide.
I very much think a lot of the issues people prescribe to this ending come from a lack of reading comprehension and selective reading. I really do feel like it. Obviously interpreting something is very subjective and maybe for some it's just a matter of conveyance or *how* things are written. I can understand where this comes from, too. But I just don't agree with a lot of the claims made I see.
Armin doesn't thank Eren for the genocide. He thanks him for willing to do it for them and says what he did was a mistake.
Eren isn't just doing all of this for Mikasa. He's also motivated by ending the Titan curse (for them to be free of it) and saving everyone else. This is meant to be selfish and single-minded.
OG Ymir "loved" King Fritz because she got approval from him for everything she did and eventually she wanted to be free from this awful relationship.
And I really do not think this is some 300 IQ reading strats, personally (I've seen people say you have to look at the tiniest details to make sense of it, but I feel like you really don't, just read everything they say and put it in context [together] with the previous 138 chapters. I can even explain how I do this if anyone is interested).
If anyone is interested, I can also explain why people might find the prose confusing and stilted.
I think the characters literally tell you what they are thinking. This is the case with stuff like Evangelion's ending, too.
I think it's the prose of those final two episodes and the series in general that also causes Eva to be labelled as confusing.
What I do think can happen is that the anime can expand on some of the stuff. Maybe add a few lines in for everyone to make their arcs clearer.
But at the same time some of those closures were in the earlier story, like the convo between Jean and Connie in 138 or Jean's daydream of a good life after everything is over or Reiner's confrontation and conversations with all of the characters during this entire arc. Everyone already has had some form of closure at least.
But some of it could be reiterated to get a smoother end to everything, I guess. I think it takes some people out of the story that some of the endings didn't feel as smooth as they could've been or didn't have as much of a neat bow attached to them as they could've had.
Thank you for the ask!

Letâs Talk About... On the Way to a Smile: Case of Tifa and The Kids are Alright: A Turks Side Story
Yes, I couldnât sleep... again. Iâve gotten good at staying up two days at a time. Then sleeping and going back to it. I suppose itâs the quarantine... Which is only going to get worse it seems...
In any case, I finally got to read Case of Tifa... and... if you came out of that thinking they werenât a thing... I donât know what to tell you. I honestly went in to it expecting it to seem very ambiguous and very non-Cloti (in a sense).Â
What struck me, first of all is the amount of guilt Tifa talks about having. Tifa seems to be just as bad as Cloud is, she just deals with it differently. Oddly enough, Cloud doesnât show that much guilt immediately. Tifa is the one who is struggling with this major guilt initially.Â
So letâs start with some screenshots (pictures?) I took of excerpts I found interesting. Some Iâm sure youâve seen before.Â
Here we have Tifa talking about the guilt. She also feels insanely guilty for what happened to not only Aerith, but everything else that happened (Sector 7 Plate Drop/Avalanche). The other weird thing about this... and this is legit at the end of the OG... she almost is convincing herself that she should stay alive. I found a lot of sadness in that. And itâs not because of anything Cloud did. No... actually I think thatâs what snaps her out of it.Â
Of course we have a smiling Cloud. Youâre going to see Cloud smiles... a lot... and he laughs too, which I really hope they show him laughing because I donât know what it sounds like...Â
Iâm sure everyone has seen this. Itâs the next page after Tifa calls Cloud out on his bright dork smile heâs giving. I mean he fucking says he has her. And that he knows what that means.Â
I... I donât know how you canât take this in a romantic sense. Maybe because the guy barely smiles so to me this is massive. Maybe because he had a hell of a time telling her anything down Under the Highwind. I donât know. But this seems like something thatâs profound to tell a person. Thatâs the end of that section (teases - perfect moment for a kiss).Â
I like the âWhat about you? Are you okay?â Strikes me as something we saw in Chapter 17 when you first get control of Tifa and Aerith, right? âWhat about you, Tifa? How are you doing?â
Tifa loses it, crying. Guilt, guilt, guilt. They talk more about Tifaâs guilt than they do Cloudâs guilt. Cloud comforts her here. Another profound thing at this point, but... we are seeing him do this in Remake already. The hug is the major one...Â
But things like when he grabs her from having a crate fall on her... he could have pulled her out of the way and let her go or pushed her (like Leslie does in the sewers). No, he holds on to her. She actually is the first one to let go here. (Look how cute they are PSPSPSPSPSPSPS)
So this whole part just cracks me up. For one, it shows that these three were busy doing stuff together and slept under the plate, even though it could collapse.Â
I HOPE WE GET A GODDAMN VISUAL OF THIS. Barret making happy Cloud and Tifa drinks? LAUGHING THEIR ASSES OFF?! Barret talking about his past?!
âThe other two [Cloud and Tifa] couldnât remember the last time theyâd laughed so much.âÂ
Letâs be real... probably when they were like 14 - maybe.Â
Thereâs also a part later down that I didnât get where Barret makes fun of them for getting trashed during this night. I would kill to ALSO see that.Â
But... laughing, drunk Cloud? Laughing, drunk Tifa? Plz.Â
Happy... sounds like the correct term.
Now there are moments as time goes on - mainly after the bar is open - where Tifa thinks about once the bar gets ready, is Cloud going to leave...
This is where I think people take it as theyâre nothing. Tifa I think just has a very hard time accepting that not everything is going to be taken away from her. The impression I got from reading this is it was all in her head. Cloud himself gave no indication that he wanted to leave. (The Geostigma catalyst is later)
And hereâs why I said I got no feeling that Cloud wanted to leave. (Oh hereâs more about Tifaâs guilt). Above this, Marlene says Cloud and Tifa can be her parents and the two look at each other. Cloud doesnât look away. Cloud also says Awesome with conviction. Looks at Tifa almost to confirm itâs okay... but these two like to talk without words. I think he knew she was getting nervous, so this was his way of saying âSee? Iâm not going anywhere?âÂ
Marlene gave him a nice little assist here so he didnât have to say anything and Tifa didnât have to ask.Â
Tifa, I think, was already going through her major guilt turmoil - she had an immediate reaction to it. I think she knew, deep down, that Cloud eventually WOULD have this problem, and when she sees the slip from Elmyra for the Forgotten City, I think she knew that was the catalyst.Â
âStop worrying about what they were to each other.â Iâve seen a lot of jokes, mostly on Japanese Twitter posts, that Cloud assumed Tifa was his girlfriend. Like, he didnât realize he needed to tell her that. I read a post about this somewhere too, that they got the impression Cloud (in the land of Cloudâs mind...) got was that Tifa was his girlfriend and knew this. Iâm not sure if itâs because of Under the Highwind, I donât know if itâs because he pulled the same shit on her and talked to her while she was sleeping. I have no idea.Â
To me, Cloud and Tifa donât have to say theyâre boyfriend and girlfriend. It seems kind of funny after all theyâve been through. Theyâre almost like extensions of each other at this point.Â
Okay so the above is from The Kids are Alright. Evan goes to see Tifa at the bar because he just saw Cloud and needs to get to Nibelheim. And Cloud tells him to talk to Tifa.Â
I have to laugh about this Evan staring at chest line... lololol
Letâs talk about how she describes Aerith. âFriend doesnât do her justice.â
...Did Tifa have romantic feelings for Aerith? Probably not (though weâd all be fine with it because Aerti is adorable). @holysmotezâ Made a very good post about how Aerith can be seen more as a holy/religious figure. I think Tifa saying this really does enforce that with me as well.Â
Also this is the part where you find out thereâs blackmail pictures of all three of them in the dresses: Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith.Â
But I marked an interesting one -Â âIâll be fine. And Iâve got Cloud, too.â She sounded confident.
Now, I was blowing through this at this point. I will go back and do a normal reading of it, but after this, Kyrie and Evan go on a journey round the world it feels like. Thereâs Nibelheim talk. They talk about some of the people who were killed during the Reunion and are found at the northern crater.Â
And here is the end of The Kids are Alright.Â
Cloud tells Evan that theyâre a family.Â
This is AT THE END OF AC when the church is being utilized as a way to heal folks. On thing that also seems odd... A lot of people were under the impression that Cloud disappeared for months... but it was like a week. Tifa blows him a kissy kissy at the end of the movie, then apparently walks up with him and the kids to see Evan and Kyrie - very family like.Â
I also did not get any jealousy vibes from Tifa and no Iâm hiding this cuz Aerith feelings from Cloud.
The part where he tells her where he found Denzel felt more like he knew she was worried about him closing in on himself again (which he already was anyway), but her reaction didnât come off as she felt jealous nor that she felt he was hiding it cuz feelings. She wanted to go cuz she wanted to go and be with him and maybe feel her friend (more than friend) there.
I got the same feeling as I did when he was taking extra jobs to get extra money for his bike. Like I should have told you I was there, and it wasnât really planned. I think he was praying or whatever the equivalent would be. He was feeling guilty, going down a bad path... because he wasnât just visiting the church in AC. He also was visiting Zackâs grave. I mean, he let the Buster Sword rust to hell out there. (Angeal knows what you did, Cloud.)
So hereâs how I feel after reading this, and now I do think that Remake is setting this up better.
Aerith is the same type of person to Cloud and Tifa. They both feel the same way about her. She feels the same way about them. Itâs different than a simple friendship, but itâs not romantic. Spiritual is a good way to describe this.Â
There is the part where Aerith says Cloud was more than a friend, for she had loved him. By itself Iâd say holy shit, wow, Aerith had romantic feelings for Cloud. After reading the rest of this, thinking of the OG, AC, CC, and Remake - yes, she loved him - but not like she loved Zack - she loved Cloud as a special person, not in a romantic sense. I think she almost felt like she had to protect him, because in this same part when she says she loved him, she also says she knows he has almost a delicate heart, but also needed to find a way to warn him about the shit about to go down.Â
I think if you asked Aerith about Tifa, sheâd say she loved Tifa too. I think OG didnât do a good job of building up the Tifa and Aerith friendship to show exactly how important she really was to the whole thing, but time constraints, technology, whatever, a lot of games in the 90s suffered from this type of shit. Get the game out! Weâll figure out the rest later...
This also does not talk about Cloudâs feelings on Aerith. The only indicator we really get in this is that Cloud felt guilty that he could not protect Aerith.Â
My guess is he told Tifa this at one point, probably during one of the conversations that she needed his help to stay strong. Thatâs not romance. He felt obligated to protect her because he was supposed to be her bodyguard, but beyond that, he just protects people. He doesnât have to be madly in love with them. Thereâs a difference in how he reacts to her death and Tifaâs simulated death. Cloud is able to function, fight Jenova, and carry her off to drop her off in the lake.Â
Tifaâs he completely starts to freak. We see what he does in Nibelheim and overtakes Sephiroth. I am not sure what would have happened if Sephiroth didnât stab him and Tifa had died at that point... I really donât know.Â
In any case, you should go read these novels too. The Kids are Alright has Kyrie and Leslie in it. Evan Iâm sure we will see at some point soon.
Donât be afraid to read them... I was because of shit information online, so I hope this puts you at ease.
Oh, Barret and Cid have a conversation about Cloud and Tifa being together too...Â

RNM 3x01
Howdy partners! It's finally happened. Roswell New Mexico has come back from the war! Last night was super exciting. I agree with everyone that said it was like a brand new pilot episode. I have slowly but surely gotten more excited over the last year, ever since she who should not be named got the boot. And it looks like things can only go up from here.
If you're new to my blog, I try to do a review of each episode just giving my opinions and speculating on what's to come. It's a long read because I really dived into almost every aspect this time, so I'll put the rest under the cut.
So without further ado, let's dive right in!!!
Mopey Max is mopey.
I know he was reverting back to his old way of doing things in not telling Michael and Isobel about dying, but I have to believe that he did it to have good memories for himself as well as for his siblings. I donât know. Maybe Iâm being generous, but Iâm willing to give him a little grace this season. Itâs a new beginning, so maybe weâll get some growth from him this season.
Not gonna lie, Heath is a hottie. I can see what Liz sees in him. Heâs kinda like if Max and Kyle had a baby. I hate her boss though.
Love the pod squad hanging out together. They were very funny and very much like real siblings when they were in the mindscape. And Isobel digging on Michael about Alex was so good! Also, how has no one noticed that Max is shooting up acetone like heroine.?
Iâm gonna surprise some folks, but I ainât mad about Delmanes. I think Greg has chemistry with everyone and they established that Maria and Alex are still in contact (Iâll get to that in a minute.) So I donât think heâs going to have a problem with them. Frankly, I think they are going to sweep the thing we all hate under the rug and never bring it up again. And I am a-okay with that! Yâall, I want to love Maria so badly! She was my absolute favorite character from the OG and if they have to forget about questionable things that we all know were a product of CAM self inserting, then I am ok with it. Besides, sheâs cute and heâs cute and they can just be cute together. I also donât think she was dragging Michael when they were talking. She made a comment about Michaelâs bad boy demeanor. Something that he has been cultivating for over a decade now. And her saying that some things arenât meant to beâŠâŠ I mean are we going to argue that point or something? I could have told her that last season.
Also, I want to try some of Bertâs mead.
Kyliz!!! I love their friendship so much! Few people challenge Liz the way Kyle does. He treats her with so much respect, but doesnât hesitate to call her out when sheâs being stubborn. Go Team Liz!!!!!
Michael Guerin stopping to fix his hair before he welcomes Alex Manes back just about broke me yâall.đđđđđđ My sweet son! I love him so much!! And I am so proud of him. I think the old Michael would have walked right up and made some sarcastic comment. But this Michael is respecting Alexâs choices and being a real friend. I am truly sad we didnât get any one-on-one Malex content, but I know that this is just setting us up for an amazing journey for our boys.
It was also gut-wrenching to see Alex stepping off that bus and being confronted with Jesseâs statue. But it was nice to see him smile when Forrest came to meet him. I am nowhere near a Forlex shipper, but it was good to see Alex happy for once. And Michaelâs face when he saw them.đđđđđđMy baby boy. I just want to hug him so badly!!
Kyle trying to help everyone was so wonderful to see. Heâs the best person on that show. If only folks would listen to him!!! But I am intrigued by this vision.
Damn Tyler Blackburn is ripped! Good lord son. You are killing me!
So hereâs where we come back to Maria. Itâs kind of a throwaway line, but Alex checks his phone and says itâs his brother and Maria making sure he got in ok. (Followed by that super cringy did you get in ok line from Forrest.) (No wonder they werenât exclusive after a year!) This shows me that Alex still considers Maria to be his best friend. Thereâs no flinch. No negative reaction. He just starts returning texts before Forrest starts revealing that heâs in Deep Sky.
Wyatt Long is such a douche.
HAHAHAHA!!!! Forrest is nothing more than a low-level henchman! I love it! And I canât blame him for falling for Alex. Who could? But let me tell ya bud, keeping secrets like that is no way to ingratiate yourself to one Alex Manes. You could see the wheels turning in Alexâs head. How much does Deep Sky know? Is Michael in danger? What lengths will he have to go to to protect him? Iâm finding Deep Sky to be quite fascinating.
Maxâs brain manifesting Liz when her song comes on the radio was so sad. He loves her so much, but is just so bad at being a good partner. You know he just wants to see her one last time before he dies. And once again, bravo to everyoneâs hero Dr. Kyle. Heâs tired of Max keeping this a secret. I just love them together. They hate, yet respect each other. It makes for a very interesting dynamic.
Iâm like Liz and Heath. They had fun shenanigans! I enjoy shenanigans. And of course she would leak their patent to keep it from becoming a wrinkle cream. Like a boss!
âItâs a cactus! Thereâs a flower on that testicle!â Wyatt, you are an idiot. But why would anyone think that tacking Linda on the end of Rosa would be all that they need to do to integrate Rosa back into society. She looks the same! At least give her a new hairdo. And Wyatt was right on the money when he pointed out she writes on her shoes just like she did before. They really shouldnât have given up on the makeover from last year. She definitely needs a new style.
Michaelâs speech about being happy the last year was so good. He was so happy to have his family back. So was Isobel. They are totally right to be angry with Max. He always makes the decisions and never asks them. Their heartbreak hearing that Maxâs body was rejecting the heart just made me want to cry.
I also didnât hate Michaelâs interaction with Maria. Itâs rough having to be friendly with an ex. But they did care very much for each other. It makes perfect sense that he would want to let her know about Max to keep her from trying to force more visions. And she would of course want to comfort him when he tells her. Heâs losing his brother. I would react the same way if that were happening to any of my exes. Because thatâs how normal people react. And there was nothing even remotely romantic about that scene. Her teasing him about Alex didnât bother me because it was just an awkward attempt to get back to their previous banter-filled friendship. Will they ever get there? Who knows. (Well, Iâm sure Chris does.)
KYBEL!!!!!!! I had forgotten how much I shipped them in s1. I am all for them getting together. I have had a big suspension that smelling rain was an indication of a cosmic connection. Itâs been confirmed so far with Liz and Alex. And Kyle did say that Max smelled like rain last season. He just needs to get some alone time with Isobel when she doesnât have on the undoubtedly expensive perfume that she wears. I just know heâs the one for her.
Max listening to Lizâs tape was so sad and beautiful.
Kylex! (Has anyone else noticed that all of the really great scenes featured Kyle?) Heâs so great at being the voice of reason. And I love that they are friends. If anyone other than Michael can convince Alex to not join Deep Sky, itâs Kyle.
So hereâs my theory on Wyatt. Of course heâs going to forget that heâs a racist piece of crap after being injected with Byterical(?). I think Rosaâs going to try to help him be a better person and maybe come to terms with Kateâs death. But I donât think itâll end well. Theyâve already talked about how the mayorâs racist son is going to factor into things this season. I think heâs going to end up trying to re-corrupt Wyatt. Either he will succeed or Wyatt will end up sacrificing himself to save Rosa. Itâs not ideal, but as long as there isnât any kind of romance there, I can endure. (Also, that was Mariaâs necklace not Rosaâs, dumbass Wyatt.)
I donât trust Maxâs one night stand. I know in the sneek peaks sheâs shown to be a reporter, but I think sheâs more than just that. Maybe itâs because I remember how horrible a character she played on Teen Wolf, but I just donât trust her. Sheâs after something besides a story.
Sorry, Forrest. You messed up and letâs be honest. You never could compare to Michael. Alexâs reaction was so bittersweet. He trusted him. But he knows what he has to do now to protect the people he truly loves. And thatâs exactly what heâs going to do. So buh-bye Forrest. Itâs been real.
I think that the alien mask guys that attack Maria are going to be part of some kind of racist gang.
Iâm veering away from thinking itâs Michael thatâs going to die. Alex was pissed, not distraught.
Why does Jones look like heâs a bad yogi? The shirt and the rings? Arenât you supposed to be naed in the pod? Did Michael and Isobel put those clothes on him? Howdy partner indeed!
So thatâs my take this time around. Itâs been a hell of a wait for this episode. But all in all I think it delivered!. Iâm looking forward to the rest of the season. I think weâre going to have a blast this year! Till next time1 my lovelies!!!!

Ooo I'm curious about your hot takes on the Inuyasha reboot after reading your tags đ
Ahaha, where to start XD Idk if they are hot takes, but here are my thoughts in bullet point form for coherency, I couldnât figure out how else to organize them. Under a cut, as usual, because it got lengthy... as usual :D
We are 13 episodes in, and I still have no idea wtf is going on or what the series is actually about. And yes, Iâm aware that we didnât know of Narakuâs existence or of the overarching plot until at least episode 16 of that series either and Inuyasha was still very episodic in nature at that early point too, but hereâs the thing: Inuyasha did not build upon a pre-existing series. For better or for worse, Yashahime has certain expectations to live up to that the original anime didnât, by virtue of its being a sequel. Unfair? Maybe, but tough; thatâs what happens when you make a sequel. Additionally, despite us not knowing The Main Plotâą of Inuyasha until later, the basic framework for it was laid out clearly by... episode 2? I think? Find and collect the Shikon Jewel shards. Boom, done. Were there distractions or fillers? Sure, but you never got the sense that the characters simply up and forgot about the shards. Even in fillers, the shards often made some kind of appearance. With Yashahime, thereâs like three potential storylines going on: 1. The most obvious: most of our main cast from the OG is missing; where are they? Apparently no one in-story cares! :D Inuyasha, whoâs that lol. Iâm all for a sequel focusing on the new generation with cameos of the old crew; after all, they already had their own series. But this is like... no one cares about them? No one talks about them? And the more characters go about not mentioning them, the stronger their absence is felt. Like, for instance, Kaede knows Moroha is InuKagâs daughter. Moroha grew up on her own, doesnât know her parents. Kaede doesnât mention them to Moroha, doesnât even spare a passing thought about them for the audienceâs benefit, Moroha doesnât ask. Kagomeâs family in the present day meet Moroha, recognize her as Kagomeâs daughter and... say nothing??? Souta shows Towa Kagome and Inuyashaâs old photos, but doesnât say a word to Moroha?! Like. It makes no sense. By people not even acknowledging their existence, it makes the fact that they are nowhere to be found even weirder. Also the new gen girls donât care about their parents or finding out who they were/are... like, okay, it would maybe be in character for one or two of them, but all three donât give a fuck??? 2. Kirinmaru/the rainbow pearls: Idk how familiar you are with the story, but similar deal with Naraku and the shards here. Kirinmaru is being set up as the villain, still a mysterious figure; our new gen trio is supposed to collect the rainbow pearls that... some of his henchmen have? Or he is after them? Or is that Riku? Unclear. ANYWAY the new gen girls often forget all about the pearlsâ existence :D 3. Setsunaâs memories: Setsunaâs dreams have been stolen by the dream butterfly and they need to get them back, because without her dreams she has no memories and is unable to sleep. Cool! Finally a solid, easy-to-follow plot line! Except wait! Towa, who supposedly made it her goal to get Setsunaâs sleep back, forgets all about it! All the time! Like, none of them make an effort to look into this other than being like âoh yeah, know anything about the dream butterfly?â to random folks every now and then. The Inugang back in the day was putting some grad school level research towards their goals, just saying. It just feels like everythingâs all wishy-washy and thereâs nothing really solid tying the series together. People just remember shit exists when itâs convenient.
.
Character development is MIA. Iâm not expecting ground-breaking char dev in 13 episodes (though I do know 12 episode series that were phenomenal in that regard), but like... I do expect the series to focus on building the dynamics between the main three characters. So far, the series is more focused on teasing the audience with glimpses and promises of the OG cast instead. The creators are using nostalgia and bait (esp of a certain pairing) to drive interest in the series, rather than developing the new characters as fully-fledged characters for their own sakes.Â
.
Moroha is was the only thing I actually liked about the series. She is a little spitfire and you can somehow instantly see both Inuyasha and Kagome in her, while she also remains very uniquely herself; I have never seen such a successfully developed main pairing child in any series. She featured quite prominently in the first few episodes -- and unlike both her parents, sheâs got a great memory and knowledge of lore -- where she balanced funny moments with badass fighting moments and being the token supernatural encyclopedia. It was great! And then... theyâve like... forgotten her. Sheâs been left behind so many times by the twins. Sheâs the butt of every joke. Sheâs become the type of comic relief thatâs, well, insulting. More like a buffoon than anything else. And itâs basically all for the sake of giving the floor to Towa :/
.
Setsuna is okay. Not offensive, but unremarkable. Sheâs got her dadâs personality but like way toned down due to her different growing up circumstances, which is nice, but like... I feel she isnât given any room to grow or breathe or anything. Sheâs also basically there as a device to enhance Towaâs development.
.
Towa... oy. I tried to like her, I really did, but she just doesnât work for me. They set her up having a very Kurosaki Ichigo type deal with beating up bullies and getting into trouble at school and shit -- Iâm fine with that. Thatâs cool. Esp if itâs linked to not feeling like she fits in bc sheâs a hanyou? Awesome. Except once she travels back in time to the feudal era itâs all âOh killing is bad you shouldnât kill peopleâ and âeven though they attacked me I canât possibly hurt themâ and âyou need to empathize and talk things outâ and âfriendship is magicâ and shit. It feels like she had a personality transplant, it literally makes no sense. Her design is totally nonsensical too -- out of everyone at her school, sheâs the only one dressed in a bright white suit? Do protags not wear the school uniform? Someone should tell Kagome lmao. Sheâs a pro at hand to hand, and she can absorb demonsâ powers and fling them back at them like a personified Tessaiga, and she has a lightsaber sword, and sheâs immune to miasma, and -- like... you get it. Itâs too much. Itâs way too OP for the type of universe that Inuyasha/Yashahime is set in. Sheâs hanyou for fuckâs sake; remember all the training Inuyasha had to go through? When he couldnât lift his sword? When his sword attacked him? Sango, Miroku, Kagome, even Sesshomaru all had trouble with their weapons and had to work to become stronger. But Towa? Nope. Towa is straight out of the Yas Queen/Girl Boss manual, so she gets a free pass on everything.
.
UGH they are doing the VLD/bad writing thing where things happen (like, BIG THINGS) and none of the characters actually react to them. Or stuff happens and there are no consequences. No one ever talks about anything. Itâs wild.
.
Everyone has amnesia!! :D People either donât know or donât remember anything or anyone. People who absolutely should know things all of a sudden magically donât know them. Like, Kohaku -- traveled with an undead priestess, spent years in the company of demons, traveled with Sesshomaru... and yet had NO CLUE that Setsuna is Sesshomaruâs daughter or that she is hanyou, despite her living and working with his team of demon slayers all this time. Like... how, man. How. And Kaede! Donât get me started. Since when does she perpetuate random demon-boogeyman type stories as facts? Demon children will kill each other in the nest so that only the strongest one will survive, therefore Setsuna must have killed Towa when they were infants. O_O What are they, sharks? Has she been hanging out with Kisame? Wtf?? And sheâs speaking about Sessâs kids as though she doesnât know him or anything about him, when she has had Rin under her roof all these years. It just makes. no. sense.
.
Things that happened in the original series are happening again now! Because thatâs the best weâve got, recycled plot elements wooo! No, but really, characters that died or things that were resolved in Inuyasha keep coming back. Why? What was the purpose of bringing back Kinka and Ginka? To have a foil for Towa and Setsuna as twins? Someone please tell Sunrise they can just create new characters. Like, itâs one thing to have call backs to the original or cameos, references, whatever. But like... this is entire (dead) characters and interactions.
.
No one knows how long itâs been since the original series ended. Fans initially heard 20 years from promo material, then âover 15âł and â10 years sinceâ in-series regarding two different events, and now in a future episode summary weâve gotten 18 years since Hosenki II gave Inuyasha the black pearl. But like, which black pearl? Because the one in Inuyashaâs eye doesnât exist anymore, but Hosenki II had told Inuyasha that it would take 100 years for him to produce one. So, are we retconning that or where the fuck did it come from? Also, this doesnât help one bit, it just confuses things even more. Back to the point, though, we have no coherent timeline or real frame of reference whatsoever, and Iâm betting itâs in large part to keep the mystery of who is Sesshomaruâs wife going, as it keeps Rinâs age very vague. Everything is vague and mysterious in Yashahime, to the point where no one knows whatâs going on, in fandom or in-story even. Itâs kinda like how too much plot twist/shock reveal ruins a story, too much mystery does the same. Itâs insane that both shippers and antis of that ship can lay equal claim that the â18 years sinceâ announcement works in their favor.
tl;dr: Idk man, Yashahime is a clusterfuck of a series. Even if the mother of Sessâs twins is either of the characters I ship him with, I will still not like the series. Thereâs no saving this writing. Every episode feels like this:
#baked-hylian#i've been wanting to rant for a while about this series thanks for enabling me! :D#i'm actually not upset about this sequel which is amazing; i thought for sure it would impact my love for the OG but nope!#it is so wild and out there that my brain literally cannot comprehend it as part of the same material#i'm just watching it out of the kind of morbid curiosity you'd watch a horrifying experiment with#and watching the fandom drama too ofc#popcorn in hand#so it's a win-win all around ¯\_(ă)_/ÂŻ#talk: yh

SPN 15X18 Observations
Let me preface this by saying, I apologize ahead of time if I and/or my notes seem a bit cynical. Iâve had a rough week. (I think everyone has.) But for whatever itâs worth, here are my notes, observations and meandering thoughts on tonightâs episode.
Oh, one more thing though. For episodes 19 and 20 (and anything really to do with them) in addition to my usual tags for the episodes and season, Iâll be tagging them with #dontspoilthefinalhunt for any who wish to avoid spoilers for them.
Pre-Episode thoughts:
So, Iâve heard enough rumors already to know that mooooost likely Cas is going to die this episode. And let me be clear, heâs my second favorite character in this show after Sam. But I have trouble feeling strong emotions for something when I go in knowing that I should. But Iâm going to try to go into this one with an open mind.Â
Also, in the past I liked Billy as a character because though she still had some biases, she still seemed mostly neutral, like OG Death had been. And from previews it looks like maybe theyâre turning her into an outright villain like theyâve done with God? Yey.Â
- Whereâs Chuck? Did he just bampf off?
- So heâs gonna blow up in the Empty?
- Yep.
- So now Dean cares about him? (Jack)
- Poor Jack. He doesnât get whatâs going on.Â
- Yey! Jack is back!Â
- âYouâve snapped me out of worse.â When?
- Theyâve prayed to Michael? Yey for not overlooking options! (Not being sarcastic.)
- Charlie!!!! And yey she has a girlfriend! (Are they gonna kill her?)Â
- Aaaaaaand there she goes.
Commercial thoughts:
So, I get the whole narrative idea of taking a character that everyone assumed was kinda on your side and revealing that they were always working towards their own interests. I get it. And it can be effective. I still donât like it with Billy.Â
Iâm glad Dean said what he did to Sam. Even if Sam says (and probably thinks) that he doesnât need to hear the apology, sometimes it needs to be said anyway. And I think saying it all helped Dean a bit too. He needed to know that Sam understood.Â
Iâm glad Jackâs back though!
- Oh Jack. Youâre worth more than your death.Â
- Iâm glad Cas is saying this, but sadly, I think the âweâ only applies to him and Sam.Â
- So Jack is powerless when he came back? Did the bomb thing burn out it all out?
*is confused*
- Yey! Eileen! (Please donât have her just vanishâŠ.)
- Iâma cryâŠ.
- Oh noâŠâŠ
- âIf I let myself go there Iâll lose my mind. I canât go there right now.â Â
- Oh Sam. Always trying to push down his feelings because thereâs other shit going on.Â
- Hug!!!!!!!
- Samâs gonna drive Eileenâs car. Just shoot me nowâŠ.
Commercial thoughts:
So yeah⊠Wonder what Billyâs plan is here with this random picking-off of people but not like, all at once. She COULD do it all at once, she has the personel. (The Empty didnât kill all her reapers.)Â
I think sheâs setting her own kind of trap or something.Â
Also, I take it Chuck just vanished? They didnât say anything about it but that seems to be the impression given.
Still pisses me off though that after bringing Eileen back and only half-assing her role they just had her vanish. (At least Rowenaâs in charge of hell, so if she wound up down there again, she SHOULD get a better shake than she did the first time.)Â
- Donna!!!!
- Eileenâs CarâŠâŠ *cries*Â
- Samâs got so much emotional stuff going on this episode. Heâs got this grief for Eileen in the background and heâs worried about Jack and trying to help him, and trying to save all these people.
- OUchâŠâŠ. Double ouch. (Were in references to the expressions on Samâs face when Donna first comforted him about Eileen and then Charlie made her comment about not wanting anyone else to go through what she did.)Â
- (Yes, Iâm worried about Dean and Cas too.)Â
- Samâs still their âChiefâ.
- That's weirdâŠ.. Why does his touch kill plants? (Not people at least.)
- Yeah, she (Billy) was waiting.
- Oh dearâŠ..
- So what IS causing this?
- NO! NOT DONNA!
- WTF?!
Commercial thoughts:
So Chuck is doing this? I mean, it makes sense. Heâs gotten petty enough. But now what?Â
Also poor Sam. I mean, he tries so hard to save people. And time after time it just doesnât work out. It could be seen as part of âChuckâs Planâ because of how he wants his big story to go. So now I guess heâs just being more direct about it. Sam isnât allowed to do well unless itâs been authorized by the Narrative. (AKA, him.) When he tries, he just gets shown the error of trying. (But heâs beaten down if he doesnât try too. Like S8.)Â
Also still donât like how Billyâs character has changed.
- She thinks sheâs Freddy Kruger?
- Heart attack? His first âdeathâ was supposed to be his heart. (In âFaithâ) Wonder if thatâs intentional here?
- Oh god⊠please donât tell me theyâre going toâŠ.Â
Commercial thoughts:
Okay. I donât ship Destiel. At all. Iâm not an anti though, cause Iâm firmly a ship-and-let-ship kind of person.Â
But that scene while very heartfelt just didnât do anything for me because it felt more than a bit like revisionistic history. However, I will say, congrats to the Destiel fandom. They killed Cas, but that scene was definitely for you all.Â
Theyâre killing off so many people though itâs like⊠this is one of my problems when Iâm going into a situation where Iâm âsupposedâ to feel a certain way. It makes me awkward. (Like the Episode âLebanonâ.)Â
- Gah, poor Sam.Â
- WTF?! Is Chuck taking everyone in the world?Â
- FUCK?! THATâS WHERE THEYâRE LEAVING IT OFF?!?!?!?
Okay, so my hope is now, since theyâve gone THIS far with what Chuck is doing, that unless the ultimate resolution of the story is going to be âeverything goes away foreverâ theyâre going to have to leave some way to bring people back.Â
Iâll be honest, I had trouble connecting emotionally with this episode. But that may not be the episodeâs fault. Iâve been working some long hours lately and I just today found out that someone I work with has tested positive for Covid. (I just got tested today.) Plus with all the election stuff still going on, thereâs a lot of real-world things on my mind.Â
Also, as I said, knowing that these are the final episodes, itâs pretty much a given that things are going to ramp up. (And the people involved with the show have been telegraphing the hell out of Casâ death, so it wasnât unexpected. And I get it. Some people really do need that time to prepare emotionally and adjust their expectations.) But I still feel like a lot of the things theyâre asking/expecting us to care about, they havenât put the actual effort into the storytelling to make that happen. I love the absolute shit out of Eileen, but for most of this season sheâs been written as little more than an accessory to Sam. And just so he can have some âfeelsâ about someone. And then she gets vanished without so much as a last glimpse of her? (And this episode was filmed before everything closed down due to Covid.)Â
I mean, his reaction STILL tore me up, because Jared is that damn good at conveying those emotions. But once again, like LAST time they killed her off, it was amongst so much other shit that thereâs barely time for him to even feel it. In fact, he even said that he couldnât because of what else was going on. And by the end of the episode pretty much everyone else in the world is Thanos-snapped too?Â
And I get it, this episode is clearly not about her. Itâs about the whole situation. It just still feels like a disservice to the character.
And speaking of disservices to charactersâŠ
So, about what Cas said in his speech/confession to Dean. The revisionistic retelling of history has been strong this season, but that was especially bad. We know from past episodes that Cas has ALWAYS had âa crack in his chassisâ and always had sympathy and love for humanity. We know that he cares about a lot of people, and has put a lot of effort into becoming a better being. (Just a few episodes ago he talked about how he truly found his purpose when he became a father. And he also had talked about finding his true family.) But no. Apparently all of that character development was just because of Dean. What bothers me isnât that he told Dean âI love you.â What bothers me is that it truly feels like Casâ entire character was reduced to one half of a ship.Â
Okay, and what also bothers me is that Sam was literally an afterthought in all of that. When for most of these years, Sam has been the one whoâs been the most supportive and understanding of Cas. Sam is the one who lately has had the closer connection with him. But naw. He ainât important, except as an extension of Dean.Â
And I get they were trying to throw some fanservice to that corner of the fandom, especially since Cas was slated to die 3 episodes before the end. But they could have done it better. Iâve read fanfic that handled Destiel in a more believable way. (I was reading for the Saileen content as theyâre often put in as a sister-ship and it can be hard to find fic of them without it.) And technically this wasnât even requited. Dean looked more shocked than anything, though I admit that's up to interpretation. But someone in one of the discord servers I'm in posted a picture of that part of the script for this episode and it outright said in the directorial notes that Cas said what he did knowing that Dean didn't/couldn't return his affection the same way. So, there is that.
There were other aspects of the episode I also had thoughts on, like, wtf is up with Jack not having his usual powers but wilting plantlife? Some extension of the bomb-thing? Is he radioactive now to anything with âCelestial energyâ? But wouldnât that have made him give Cas problems too? Or is this supposed to be indicating something else? Amara did that too before she started turning lighter, back in Season 11. Is he somehow turning into the Darkness? Or did he come back from the Empty partially possessed by Lucifer? Gah. I donât even know. Iâm just throwing ideas at a dart board now. *LOL*Â
And at this point, wtf CAN they even do against Chuck? I really donât know. Iâm hoping the next episodes are better, but I know 19 was written by Buckleming and they donât have the best track record. True, a few of their episodes Iâve actually enjoyed. But sometimes they fall short on writing the Brothers Winchester.Â
Anyway, I think Iâve probably rambled enough for now.

oh,,,,mess,,,,
jiraiya
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | donât like them | eh | theyâre fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life  hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang | hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff (points to meta on narutoâs post) best quality: oh boy. ok. without a doubt itâs his heart. i wanted to hate him, i did hate him, but i saw him with naruto. with tsunade. with the ame trio. how he never gave up on orochimaru. he loves deeply. heâs also like, such a lowkey caretaker because of it, and iâve talked before about heâs the steady one when things go to shit. just, god!!! everything about his bonds with other people GETS to me. worst quality: HIS SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN LMAO like GOD. thereâs meta about how jiraiya uses sex to cope, about wanting intimacy but fearing loss, and THAT is fun. but kishimoto was like what if we make it a RUNNING GAG because jiraiya is so fucking horny!!! FUCK. ITS BAD. also, taking away shitty writing, this man is a goddamn sagittarius in the WORST way. he runs away from responsibility like no other! his refusal to accept the hat, the fact he CLEARLY avoided the village for 12 fucking years so he wouldnât have to Deal with the fact heâs narutoâs godfather, HE JUST ABANDONED 3 FUCKING 12-13 YEAR OLDS IN A WARZONE AFTER BEING THEIR ONLY CAREGIVER FOR 3 YEARS WITHOUT EVEN ASKING IF THEYâD WANT TO COME BACK TO KONOHA WITH HIM????? JIRAIYA IM COMING FOR YOU  ship them with: tsunade and orochimaru are his SOULMATES brotp them with: tsnunade and orochimaru are his GOVERNMENT ASSIGNED BEST FRIENDS. also naruto, minato, and the ame trio. needs to stay away from: uhhhhhhhhhh genuinely anyone besides tsunade and orochimaru. no one deserves this disaster man. misc. thoughts: iâm So mad how much i love him. like itâs fine iâm a comics stan iâm used to picking and choosing which parts of canon i accept. but i truly lost a lot of self respect when i was forced to admit i stan jiraiya.
tsunade
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | donât like them | eh | theyâre fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff best quality: her strength. like, obviously sheâs physically a powerhouse, but emotionally she keeps getting knocked down and getting back up. and itâs like...not even a trait she acknowledges? i think because of her years of drifting, drinking away her pain, gambling to feel the adrenaline rush, she doesnât consider herself emotionally strong, but like. she lost dan, and nawaki. she lost orochimaru to his quest for power, she lost jiraiya to his worldly adventures. she did what she could to cope. and when she agreed to become hokage, she put all that on the back burner. when orochimaru died, she didnât let herself feel it. when jiraiya died, she let herself breakdown privately, and then pulled herself back together. when pain attacked the village, she kept everyone alive. she never buckled under her own grief, her own pain. sheâs so fucking strong!!!!! worst quality: god i WISH canon would show tsunade is JUST as messy and awful as jiraiya and orochimaru. like i saw someone going off about how itâs not fair to compare tsunadeâs addiction to jiraiyaâs horny bullshit or orochimarruâs literal war crimmes and thatâs true! but it is fair to talk about how tsunade is an INSANE PERSON who trained a 12 year old child everyday until her bones broke and made her KEEP GOING WITH BROKEN BONES. like, iâm NOT LETTING THIS ONE GO TSUNADE!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!! ship them with: jiraiya and orochimaru!!! brotp them with: jiraiya and orochimaru, sakura, shizuune, kakashi, naruto needs to stay away from: anyone besides jiraiya and orochimaru. like, technically, thereâs nothing wrong with tsunade/dan, except itâs the most boring ship iâve ever laid eyes on. misc. thoughts: she really is such a cool, well written, underutilized character lmao. i really wish weâd gotten more of tsunadeâs complexity and messiness.Â
orochimaru
general opinion: fall in a hole and die | donât like them | eh | theyâre fine I guess | like them! | love them | actual love of my life hotness level: get away from me | meh | neutral | theoretically hot but not my type | pretty hot | gorgeous! | 10/10 would bang (I AM TALKING STRICTLY BORUTO AND SANNIN ERA OROCHIMARU. OG NARUTO AND EVEN SHIPPUDEN NARUTO IS UGLY!!!) hogwarts house: gryffindor | slytherin | ravenclaw | hufflepuff best quality: none <3 i love orochimaru because heâs an incredibly complex character, not because he has good qualities! like if i had to name his best quality, itâs his love for mitsuki. orochimaru and mitsuki are the ONLY reason i acknowledge boruto because everything else is BAD. worst quality: LITERAL! WAR! CRIMINAL! ship them with: tsunade and jiraiya!! brotp them with: tsunade and jiraiya!!! i like fandom acting like heâs sasukeâs annoying godfather. needs to stay away from: literally anyone besides the sannin. misc. thoughts: bro kishimoto dropped the BALL here. orochimaru is so fucking complex, thereâs LAYERS here. like, we have this little war orphan, the last of his kind, who never learned or understood morality. but he had jiraiya and tsunade to guide him. he trusted them. they were loud, and annoying, but he trusted them. but war happened. war happened, and orochimaru led the mission nawaki died on. he stood and watched, unable to do anything, as dan bled out in tsunadeâs arms. death surrounded him. he became desensitized to it, while also being terrified of it. the timeline is wonky, but in MY head jiraiya leaving was the start of orochimaru pulling away. he and tsunade didnât talk as much those years. he became obsessed with forbidden jutsus. when jiraiya came back, orochimaru was willing to kill him so he and tsunade could get away. danzo started manipulating him, encouraging his desire for power and knowledge, his lack of morals. neither tsunade or jiraiya noticed or reached out. hell, they mightâve already left at this point, which is also a blow for him- i truly think their abandonment hit orochimaru Hard. and the final blow came when sarutobi chose a CHILD over him to become hokage. heâd dedicated his life, heâd killed and bled for the village, and still it wasnât enough, sarutobi still didnât trust him, didnât see him worthy. just. FUCK!!!!!!!!!!! OROCHIMARU IS SO INTERESTING AND ITS NEVER EXPLORED!!!!!!!!!!!!

are you sick of me Loving Trapper yet? you will be. anyway. if you had given evan more screen time/developed him further, what would you have done/where would you have gone? how badly would he get dunked on at every turn? any specific thoughts?
I did not realise you had a specific love for Trapper actually đ. I just thought you were very much enjoying most existing dbd characters.
Hmmm, so, to preface, Evan I have complicated thoughts on, and probably a less popular take as far as the fandom goes? Usually, my feelings towards Evan are that heâs an interesting character and would be fun to write, and thatâs what they started as too, but I was really shocked when I first went from playing dbd to finding online fandoms & saw that heâs such a wildly like, nicely/sympathetically portrayed character? Instead of just a fan favourite for being interesting? It also made me sad and kinda peeved that while Philip also just gets passed over tragically when it comes to shipping period, his existing ships are basically just Trapper and Nurse? (And Dwight, although that tapered off a lot). And it rubbed me really wrong that Trapper, who is a rich white 1860s estate owner who killed his workers for shits, was one of the two most popular options for the tragic and well-intentioned Nigerian dude? I mean like, Evan being a rich white 1860s or earlier estate owning man who came to view weak/poor/working class as maggots being the case? Itâs uhhh, itâs pretty damn likely he wouldnât have exactly been an abolitionist, let alone a progressive person period. So. That really bothered me. A lot.
The whole personality take bothered me largely bc many characters who are canon-objectively much more nice or good or sympathetic get little or much less attention period ( Sally, Joey, Julie, Adiris, Lisaâeven Max and Philip, who were both p OG right with him, &), while his entire murders-people-no-problem shtick got largely ignored in favour of âEvan is a chill nice dude outside of trialsâ for I still donât know the reason? Which like, I donât mean liking him as a character ever bothered me at all, nor do I mean that people canât have their HCs, it just really threw me for a loop to see him so consistently interpreted so very far from his in-game description, and it did bother me he got that while so many canonically more decent killers didnât? (+ the list above uh, not weirdly enough, is completely made of women, poc, &/or disfigured & disabled characters so. : / But thatâs itâs own topic).
As a character, I think Evan is very cool. Heâs been very fun to write! The man is much more complex than say Mr. Chase, both in backstory and situation, and heâs been in the realm a long ass time, which could lead to some pretty interesting storytelling potential for him, or even hypothetically change and growth as a human being (or alternately but potentially just as interestingly, a more canonical slide into servititude and loyalty to the Entity and hunger for violence and suffering). Heâs actually got some more time in the prequel bit than he did in ILM I think. Heâs definitely not a good person (I mean, ye obvs), but heâs got some layers, and is more interesting than many of the antagonists. By the time of ILM, heâs kind of the Entityâs favourite? Aside from Kenneth. Itâs like, Evan is the hardworking associate who has been on-site for 20 years and worked his way up to confidant and assistant manager, and Kenneth is the hoe who has been there a week and also made asst manager because heâs sleeping with the boss (which is why everyone, definitely including Evan, hated him so much). The Entity isnât a creature that seeks out confidants in a personal way, or needs or wants social relationships, but as much as it ever did, by habit, vent or chat or whatever the hell youâd call its weird version of that, it would be Evan every time that would get the âScully youâre never gonna believe thisâ while heâs just trying to chill in his estate and sip a mimosa but heâs like, âOk. What?â If Iâd given Evan more time, it would have been interesting to explore that and his personal thoughts on things and motivations for what he does some, because outsider view is almost always fun, and annoyed or exasperated outsider view can be p great!
He wasnât someone I had reason or time to focus on in ILM, but I did develop him a decent bit behind the scenes, and he was a fun character to delve into. Uhhh I donât think things would have ended any differently for him if he had more of his time on-screen, not in this story anyway, but he wouldnât have gotten dunked on at every turn. Unfortunately, Evan is fairly skilled at what he does, so it would have also been a lot of him killing survivors and making them, especially poor Feng, who had the audacity to embarrass and outclass him and earned his constant antagonism for it, suffer. He is more of an interesting antagonist in many ways though, which has been fun to develop, because he certainly has a sense of pride. So, he would accept challenges probably, or fight someone one-on-one even if he didnât have to, to prove he could. And a bad dude with a code of some kind, even if itâs just âI can squash you alone with my bare hands and will show you how true that is,â is still very interesting to work with. Means they will make and hold to some kinds of decisions, personality wise. Good for storytelling. I could say more, because I have spent some time w Mr. MacMillan, but I think I already over-answered, so Iâll leave it here. Thanks for the question! Iâm sorry if you hate this answer though. TuT

Jame Robertsâ Instagram Q&A -November â18
Right.Â
So.
- Back in MTMTE #15, when the original Rewind got locked in the Slow Cell with Overlord, he suddenly learned how to shrink while he transformed. This was not an ability he previously had, as shown in, for example, MTMTE #2, when Tailgate sees Rewind for the first time (before Swerve introduces him to CDRW) and remarks that he can see a âgiant memory stickâ in the distance. However, the fear that Rewind felt in that moment triggered his ability to shrink to the size we see him in, like, LL #25, for example. This helps him survive both Overlord and the shots fired off by Chromedome, and so he, along with Overlord, is recovered by the Galatic Council. Overlord is seen as too dangerous, so Rewind is chosen as the guinea pig for an experiment the Galatic Council are trialling; an experiment that would allow them to âpunch holesâ into alternate universes. Since they want to use Rewind as a weapon against the Black Block Consortia (and other enemies of the council, such as other Cybertronians), the technology is built into a suit of armour meant to resemble Primus (this suit of armour was built in the same vein as the Magnus armour, in that it made so that a small robo could pretend to be this big, famous robo and not, like, the sentai suit dealio I had originally envisioned when JRo was describing this. this was done because they rightly assumed that seeing Primus land in the middle of a battlefield would scare the royal shit out of everybody, most especially other Cybertronians, who have the cultural context to know who the fuck he is.)Â
So, then, it worked, and Rewind made it into the past?? of another dimension (that wasnât the Functionist universe), but then it malfunctioned and he got trapped there. He had fight his way back to the original universe by travelling through a bunch of other alternative universes (there would have been an interlude during the Mutineers Trilogy where we saw Rewind 1 travelling through the Marvel 2006 universe). At first, he was travelling back to the OG universe was so he could be reunited with his conjux (he met other Chromedome's along the way, but he wanted to find his Chromedome), but as he was travelling, he discovered Chromedomeâs secret; that he had helped in the cover-up of Dominusâ murder, and so it became more complicated (he kinda wanted to avenge Dominus.) This wouldâve all culminated in an issue where Rewind 1 finally made it back the original universe. As has been previously established, only one Rewind can exist at the one time, so Chromedome would've had to decide which Rewind would be cancelled out, all while Rewind 2 (and by extension, the audience) wouldâve learned from Rewind 1 what Chromedome did to Dominus, which wouldâve complicated things even further.
JRo came up with this idea before he began writing MTMTE, but by the end of season one, he was starting to become uncertain about this particular storyline, as Rewind, Chromedome and their relationship began to develop. Having Chromedome do this to Rewind started to feel wrong. After talking to his editor at the time (Carlos, I believe?), he decided to leave in the scene with Chromedome and Prowl, where Prowl threatened blackmail and Chromedome used Shadowplay to erase the blackmail from his memory, just in case he still wanted to go through with it. However, by the time it came to the final stretch of issues, he already so many other plot points to introduce, explain and tie up, he didnât have time to do all three for Rewind 2 and his ultra-complicated, high concept adventures, and deal with the complications it brought with it to the cast, so he was forced to drop it.
So, with that out of the way, here are the more breezy answers:
- Megatron didnât have a mentor who taught him medicine in the Warren, he taught himself everything he knows about treating people because heâs âthe most ferocious autodidact.â (i stan a legend)
- Ratchet would still be the better medic though
- Megatron specialised in neurology
- Flame survived the events of LL #24
- The only reason Functionist Universe! Orion and Terminus were killed was because of time restraintsÂ
- Making Drift and Ratchetâs relationship a romantic one started feeling right around their return in the Remain in the Light arc, but JRo didnât really decide that they were definitely conjux endura until he began writing LL #25Â
- Rewindâs colour changing pants are now (dubiously) canon (âChromedome is fascinated; he might be an outlier.â)
- Admitted a couple of times, once again, that he wished he hadnât killed TrailcutterÂ
- If a Cybertronian is gifted a vial of innermost energon and survives whatever near-fatal injury or illness they had, they have the option to either keep it, as a reminder of the love they and the donor share, or they can regift the donorâs innermost energon to them. If they do indeed die, the most common practice is to donate the innermost energon (as Ratchet did posthumously in #25)
-Â âSorry, Iâve seen âChromedome is a bottomâ on the screen and thatâs thrown me.â
- When asked if heâd change anything if given the opportunity to rewrite the series, he admitted that there were âa bunch of thingsâ, which included:
  * Spacing out events more, most especially near the beginning of MTMTE,      where so much was happening that it all felt âa bit busyâ, and the Crucible      arc
  * Writing more stories about the tertiary cast (eg. Spotlight: Hoist) to really      sell the fact that this was a ship with 200 mechs on board (the main cast      would still have had their own quirky adventures going on in the             background)
        * An example of such a story wouldâve been having an issue focusing          on the writer behind the Lost Light Insider
  * More stories with the Mutineerâs
  * Give the Scavengers an entire tradeback to themselves in Season 3,         encompassing an entire arc heâd had planned for them
   * He wouldnât have âdecapitated Red Alert like thatâÂ
   * Having the charisma parasites being followed up by Swearth âdidnât do       him any favours as they were three very high concept issues one after the     otherâ
   * Wouldâve seeded more mentions of the Guiding Hand in MTMTE (though       not in Lost Light, which had enough, he felt)
   * More Star Saber (longer fights with different characters)
   * Way more Roller!
   * Show Cyclonusâ recovery from his injuries in #47 more as more of a slow,     arduous process instead of an âOh, heâs fine nowâ dealio
   * Wouldâve liked to pull off the Troja Major two-parter better
- [SPOILERS FOR IDWâS UNICRON SERIES]
When asked whoâs death Megatron would be most cut-up about, Optimus, Soundwave or Starscream, JRo said heâd take Stasrcreamâs the worst, as the two had âunfinished businessâ (the new Pacifist Megatron wanted to reconcile with Starscream). Though Soundwave was listed last on the âwho'd Megatron would mourn the mostâ list, he also said that heâd be âproud of what Soundwave didâ
- On a more lighthearted note, he said that Stan Bushsâ Dare was playing in Rodimusâ head during his âTil All Are One!â montage in the 2012 annual
- Cyclonus is, unfortunately, no longer rich, because much of his wealth came from Tetrahexian real estate (as stated in the prose story Signal to Noise, packaged in Volume 4 of MTMTE), and the value kinda dropped after Unicron, you know, destroyed the whole planet (though he also said itâs more than likely he and Tailgate invested in real estate on New Cybertron)
- Said that if Rodimus and Drift had been amica endura âno one wouldâve batted an eye,â (and that they wouldâve completed the ceremony off-screen)
- Rodimus was originally going to sacrifice himself in Crucible to stop the Omega Guardians from using the Warren to enter our universe and take it over. (âEven saying that is making me yawnâ) Everyone wouldâve thought Rodimus was already dead, and as such, another, unnamed character wouldâve gotten credit for his sacrifice. Rodimus wouldâve known this, and sacrificed himself anyway.
-Â âYouâre all [unapologetic] shippers and I salute you.â
- As he stated on Twitter before, heâd have liked to include a scene between Cyclonus and Drift, where Drift proclaims his new respect for Cyc after seeing his Great Sword. This scene wouldâve happened around the Remain in the Light arc.Â
-Â âAre you guys still talking about Chromedome being a bottom? Oh my god.â
- In a fight between Drift and Cyclonus, Cyclonus would win.
- When asked who heâd ship Rodimus with, he said that Rodimus was an interesting case, as heâd actually be quite well-versed in the area of romance, unlike the rest of the cast, and that he âwouldnât pine for people.â In the end, he ended up choosing Roller.
- Getaway didnât make up the Conjux rites; theyâre realÂ
- Rodimusâ flame abilities are not an outlier ability, but an upgrade he got along the way (he compared it to getting a really excessive tattoo). The ability is really painful and uses up a lot of Roddyâs energy.
- When asked what he hoped from the next continuity, he said that he wanted it to continue to be inclusive âin every sense of the wordâ, specifically pointing out the LGBTQIA+ representation as something he wanted to see continued.Â
-Â âYeah, Springerâs pretty hot.â
- First Aid has a crush on crush on Springer (as does JRo)
- Cyclonus is legitimately a great singer. Itâs that his abilities are more of the operatic kind, meaning âhe is not always appreciated by the unculturedâ
-Â â[A fan] says that Lost Light is a love letter to fan fiction, which it absolutely isâ
- When a fan asked why (to paraphrase) Roller was just so dang hot, JRo said that âRoller just has that effect on people thanks to Jackâs lascivious designsâ (and before you go off and google it, lascivious is defined as âfeeling or revealing an overt sexual interest or desireâ)
- Driftâs wealth was made through bounty hunting
- Brainstorm and Chromedome might have been amica endura, but that Chromedome felt âburnt outâ from his various failed relationships, both platonic and romantic.Â
- No one even has a âRung-shaped gapâ in their memory after LL #24. They honestly canât remember where the various matrixes came from, as is the case with all the things Rung was responsible for. They all blame it on memory creep and have each come up with their own contradictory explanations as to how and why these things happened.Â
- When asked if Swerve liked The Big Bang Theory, JRo replied with a swift âNo, he has a brainâ
- Instead, he said Community was Swerveâs favourite show
- Cybertronian weddings are âvery longâ
- There was a lot singing at Cyclonus and Tailgateâs wedding
- Brainstorm and Perceptorâs wedding, meanwhile, âwould be very complicatedâ because âtheyâd be trying to outdo each other in subtle waysâ. It would âmake for a good sitcom episode.â
- Roddyâs favourite meme is âthe butterfly oneâ
- Rungâs favourite meme is âthe woman looking confused with algebra in front of her faceâ
- Swerve is over memes
-Â â[Driftâs thighs] are certainly impressiveâ
- Swerve is âdestined to have many friendsâ
- Whirl and Cyclonus most certainly became amica endura after LL #25
- Swerve got Misfireâs number in the end
- Though he said many times in the lead up the end of this continuity that this was his last time writing for Transformers, he said he would like to write a 12 issue series centred around a character he didnât name, and then later admitted that he wanted to try to convince IDW to let him write another series. He also said that is there was ever a Grand Collecterâs edition of the series (that collected all the issues, prose stories, additional stories from other series etc into one or two hardback editions, for example), heâd write an additional prose story to make it worth peopleâs money
- Hoist confirmed the Lost Lightâs resident furry
- âTailgate is the cutest? Yes, heâs a little marshmallow.â
-Â In his final days, before his execution, Minimus wouldâve taken his poetry to Megatron so that he could read it (he wouldâve also read Minimusâ poetry on the Alt! Lost Light, though assumedly under far less tragic circumstances)
- Getaway was considered the hottest mech on all of the Lost Light, with Skids as a close second. Together, they were âa hot duo.â
- Functionist Universe! Anode was a brilliant war generalÂ
- Nickel had a girlfriend before her homeworld was destroyedÂ
- Rung canât dance (we been knew)
- Crankcase and Con4Eva did hook up in the original universe
- âDoes Rung know we love him? No - heâs very lonelyâÂ
- No one in the cast likes all of the Shrek movies, but all of them like the first one.
- Chromedome and Brainstorm met each other the New Institute (which was my question answered :D)Â
- Roddy would eat Doritos if he couldÂ
- Not a single Transformer (in the IDW-verse) would like Trump
- The worst film that Roddy likes is Caddy ShackÂ
- Terminus wouldâve never admitted that he was lying to Megatron
- Unfortunately, the song Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind & Fire never made it to the Lost Light
-Â âWho would make the best romantic partner? Depends on your taste.â
- JRoâs favourite superhero is Spiderman, his favourite TF toys as a kid were Hot Rod & Sandstorm and Nautica is his favourite character (from MTMTE/LL)
- Megatron, does indeed, both give the best hugs and deserves hugs!Â
- âYouâre a tactile, compassionate, thirsty bunch, arenât you?â
- Tailgate, Swerve and Rewind would all play Fortnite
- Drift and Ratchet wouldâve opened a âclinicâ together (the question asker was unintentionally vague, so JRo was intentionally vague with his answer)
- Drift thinks that Ratchet was the one who made the first move, while Ratchet thinks Drift wasÂ
- Ratchet and Drift wouldâve been together for âdecades and decadesâ before Ratchet died
- While Nautica/Skids still isnât canon, he did confirm that Skidsâ feelings for Nautica were romantic in natureÂ
- While Jack Lawrence bases many of the charactersâ mannerisms on his own, he bases Rungâs mannerisms off of JRoâs, which doesnât help his âanti-mary-sue argument.â
- I canât remember the exact quote, but when asked what itâd be like to have Whirl as a roommate, he said something along the lines of âyouâd have a crush on him even though youâd hate him.â
- In case it wasnât clear enough in the text itself, Whirl rejected Ratchetâs hands because of a shift in how he saw his own disability. He no longer saw it, and by extension, himself, as a âdeficiencyâ that needed to be âfixedâ
- JRo pronounces âOmegaâ as âOh-me-gahâ. This is important information to include.Â
And then the livestream ended with JRo saying we all âneed a cold showerâ after all this âfervent shippingâ and went off to finish his half a pint of Corona. (what a legend)
Feel free to add in any answers or details I missed.
